I'm penultimate_supper 🚀, an editor interested mostly in articles on religious history, comparative religion, fantasy and sci-fi literature, library science, and biographies of important figures in all of those areas. So far, I’ve mostly worked to improve stubs, diversify sources, and improve NPOV on articles on religion, but I’m also trying to become more involved in copyediting and other behind the scenes maintenance.

I am a librarian in a public library, mostly focused on youth services, but with a general interest in reference and digital library services, and a strong commitment to library services to Latinos. I have strong personal connections to the Bahá’í Faith, Mormonism, and Islam—topics many of my contributions are related to—but believe in editing articles on religion with as much objectivity and transparency as possible, rather than using Wikipedia for either apologetics or polemics.

As a librarian, I have easy access to a lot of paywalled or print-only sources, and I am a copious user of inter-library loans. If there’s anything I cited in an article that you want to verify or need access to yourself, just let me know and I’ll try and scan the relevant pages and send them your way.

Past significant contributions

edit
  • 2017
    • Mullá Husayn (June-October, 2017)—Expanded stub to 7000+ words, diversified sources.
    • Raj`a (September, 2017)—Added section on Bahá'í doctrine of return, copyedited and refined language of existing sections
    • Advent of Divine Justice (August, 2017)—Made minor edits for clarity's sake and improved citations

Current projects

edit
  • Library storytime (draft)—Working on an initial article on the history of library storytime services, the research on outcomes, the theory in the LIS world on these programs, and connecting this article to other relevant articles.
  • Quddús (drafting workpage)—Expanding the article to provide a more in-depth biography, including details on the relationship between socio-political currents in Qajar Iran and the development of the Bábí community, and Quddús' ongoing religious significance for Bahá'ís and legacy in current literature.
  • Maneckji Limji Hataria (draft)—Expanding stub to include more details on his impact, Parsi-Iranian development efforts, and connections with important figures of the time like Arthur de Gobineau, Mírzá Abu'l-Faḍl, and Baháʼu'lláh.

Future project ideas

edit
  • Bábism and the Bahá'í Faith
    • Expand Bayán and consolidate the pages for the two distinct texts into one.
    • Refine Mullá Husayn for GAN. I meant to do this in 2017, but life interfered.
  • Librarianship and library science
    • Develop an article on the theory and reception of Fobazi Ettarh’s vocational awe framework and it’s impact within and beyond LIS discourse.
    • Rework the library technician article to focus more broadly on the diversity of library support workers, the history of this role, relationships with librarians, current trends, precarious employment, and LIS literature on the subject. Library support workers, or support staff, can include or be referred to as library paraprofessionals, technicians, associates, assistants, clerks, pages, shelvers, etc., but there is no consistent definition of any of these titles, and they are likely better addressed in a single article than having one very specific interpretation addressed in such great detail. The page on paralegals does a good job of dealing with some of the same ambiguity required here and may be a good source for ideas on structure and issues re. notability and verifiability.
    • Add information on Latin America to Public library and other LIS articles.
    • Expand content on the development of library services to children at multiple LIS articles.
  • Latter Day Saint movement
  • Fantasy and science-fiction literature

I often edit on mobile, so having these and the bookmarks at the top available is really helpful for getting around easily.
