Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Cro-Mags

Reason: Request for Page Protection - Cro-Mags Band

Dear Wikipedia Moderators,

I am writing to formally request page protection for the Cro-Mags band Wikipedia page. I have been diligently working to ensure the accuracy of the band's history, collaborating closely with Harley Flanagan, albeit not as an official employee, but as a member of his family.

Regrettably, our editing efforts have encountered challenges. Some individuals have resorted to blocking our IP address, hindering our ability to make necessary edits. Furthermore, I am now encountering disputes from various users asserting inaccuracies in the information I've provided. However, I firmly believe that the information I've contributed is indeed accurate.

I am committed to maintaining the integrity of the Cro-Mags band's Wikipedia page by continually updating it with reliable and verifiable information. Being blocked from editing would impede this mission, and I wish to avoid such a scenario.

If there is any additional information or documentation required to support my request for page protection, please do not hesitate to let me know. I am more than willing to provide any necessary evidence to ensure the page's accuracy and integrity.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to your prompt response.

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Only post below if you receive no (favourable) reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Requests for autopatrolled

Autopatrolled

User:TheChunky

I would like to request autopatrolled permission for my Wikipedia account. I have been actively contributing to Wikipedia since 2020, focusing primarily on creating articles related to geography, biography, and, notably, articles aligned with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Chenab Valley. I am committed to maintaining high-quality content and believe that autopatrolled status would assist in streamlining the workload for new page patrol, given my consistent contributions. Thank you for considering my request. ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 03:18, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

On hold until Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Deepak Kalal is closed. Thank you for volunteering, but given that you've had a few articles deleted at AfD before (albeit a couple of years ago now), I just want to double check that your understanding of notability aligns with the broader community's. – Joe (talk) 13:40, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
Sure, I will wait for it. No issues. ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 15:32, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Joe Roe, I would like to bring to your attention that the article in question was deleted during the second relisting vote on AfD. Nevertheless, I made an observation during the initial vote, wherein I firmly believe that comprehensive coverage by reputable and notable news outlets constitutes significant coverage (SIGCOV). It is worth noting that a majority of the participants in the AfD discussion voted in favor of nominating the article for deletion.
I am now seeking clarification on the next steps. Will my standing be evaluated solely based on this particular AfD discussion, or will my participation in other AfD discussions and the creation of multiple biography articles also be taken into account?
Sincerely, ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 11:08, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
@Joe Roe Reminder. ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 15:21, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
I'm afraid with an article deleted so recently, I can't really justify assigning you autopatrolled.  Not done at this time. – Joe (talk) 07:31, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
@Joe Roe Ah! This article was created years ago and has undergone multiple revisions by various editors, but unfortunately, it was eventually deleted. I've had positive experiences with other AfDs and AfCs, which you can verify. Your assistance in reviewing this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 01:17, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

User:Perspicax

I have noticed that the eponymous article for university categories is often either missing (eg several in Category:Wikipedia categories named after universities and colleges in China have no articles at the top level) or incorrectly sorted (eg in Category:University of La Laguna) and wish to use AWB with a suitable module to correct this easily. Perspicax (talk) 22:44, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

User:Remsense

Among other aspects, I find myself editing a lot of template-heavy articles and I think AWB would really improve my speed and consistency with such, e.g. foreign language-heavy articles, computing articles, math articles. Remsense (talk) 18:56, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

User:4theloveofallthings

I particularly enjoy helping new editors who are figuring out Wikipedia still, but have a strong passion for learning how to help the encyclopedia. I can more closely relate to these users because I myself was one only a year ago, and after this last year I feel confident in my knowledge on article creation, deletion as well as Wikipedia’s notability guidelines.

There have been ups and down this last year. Don’t get me wrong! Some articles I have learned are not quite ready to stand alone, and others almost seem to write themselves. I am not perfect, and I am still learning every day. However, this is exactly why I think helping out new editors would be a role I’d find very fulfilling. I want to help people learn to edit for Wikipedia — not get overwhelmed by the process.

Thank you! 4theloveofallthings (talk) 14:06, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for volunteering, 4theloveofallthings, and especially for doing so with helping new users in mind. I wish I could grant you the right, but you don't appear to have the kind of previous experience that would let us assess whether you meet the criteria: you haven't been particularly active at AfD, AfC or in writing your own articles. For that reason, I'm afraid I have to say  Not done for now. I'd suggest trying out one of those other areas to build some experience first – AfD+AfC is usually the most helpful combination. – Joe (talk) 13:25, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

I have experience in moving pages and no behavioral blocks or 3RR violations in the last 6 months. Thanks, Brachy08 (Talk) 03:01, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

In the past week: An improper cut and paste page move at Wildest Dreams (song), this unexplained blanking of references, this insertion of unreliable sources, this questionable violation of WP:DENY, and this unnecessary GAR. What is the purpose of Wikipedia:Humor/Scratch (programming language) with such gallow humor about killing squads? What is this unexplained revert of a constructive edit? This is a short review of your September edits alone. -- ferret (talk) 03:20, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
The humorous article was from the Scratch wiki (I should remove the killing squad thing), the rest were mistakes (sorry). But I do hope to let you know, that these edits were in good faith (I have a bad sense of humor and I did not see WP:DENY), so thanks for letting me know. I’ll take it as an AfI. No claims of good faith issue were leveraged. I really wish that newer editors didn't think "but remember good faith" was a shield to mention every time criticism is given. I understand your editing is good faith and never doubted it. That doesn't make any of this less problematic. -- ferret (talk) 13:26, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Not done. I'm sorry, but your draftify log shows too high of an error rate for me: Niketan (draftified one minute after creation), Draft:2023 Kill the Chickens Protests (draftified three minutes after creation), Draft:Jesse W. Moore (draftified 36 minutes after creation), Draft:Moskapur (draftified twice), Draft:I Must Betray You (draftified while the creator was clearly still working on it), Draft:Hirunkit Changkham (draftified two minutes after the creator's last edit), Draft:Suleman Hossain (draftified an hour after creation, despite references listed in the source bnwiki article). This is highly alienating to new users (most of those linked above abandoned the article after you draftified) and I can only conclude that you simply didn't read core NPP-related policies like WP:NPPHOUR, WP:DRAFTIFY, and WP:DRAFTOBJECT. User_talk:Dudhhr#Mary_Raine_(football) was also not great. – Joe (talk) 13:46, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Not done. Considering the number of declined drafts you have with issues still unresolved, I am not convinced that you can exercise good judgment about whether a new page conforms to Wikipedia's content policies. With more time and experience, this will come. ~Anachronist (talk) 23:43, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. The draft you mentioned was submitted in March-23 when I just started editing Wikipedia and my understanding about different Wikipedia policies was very little. You can see that since then I have created 11 articles without any objections and my involvement in AFD and AFC has now helped me alot in getting clarity about Wikipedia guidelines. Regards Charsaddian (talk) 00:07, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
I have to say, Anachronist, this is a rather odd reason not to assign NPR... If someone chooses not work further on a draft after it's declined at AfC twice, isn't that just the process working as intended? Also, as far as I can tell, the number of declined drafts Charsaddian has is one and it's a genuinely tricky case. It looks like they have a AfD record (96.4% match rate with a high proportion of nominations) and, given the large backlog at the moment, if it were me I'd at least offer them a trial. Will you reconsider? – Joe (talk) 10:27, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
@Joe Roe: I meant to say "number of draft declines" rather than "number of declined drafts", the last decline being this month, on a draft this editor has been attempting to improve. I am concerned that in spite of experience gained in article creation and AFD, this editor might be unfamiliar with the situation involving a new article that needs to be draftified rather than proposed for deletion or marked as reviewed. This concern remains. However, I agree to a trial.
Done. @Charsaddian: I have granted you the new page reviewer right. ~Anachronist (talk) 15:42, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

Page mover rights would also allow me to draftify articles (something I frequently do for NPP) without leaving cross-namespace redirects. The right would also allow me to assist at CfD, as I would then be able to close requests or discussion involving category renaming (moving).

I have well over 3000 edits and over a year of experience on Wikipedia. Thank-you for considering my request, Edward-Woodrow :) [talk] 21:47, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

@Edward-Woodrow: The vast majority of your moves are incubation and you have no edits to RM/TR as far as I can see. Also, several of your CfD edits are "per nom" votes. Could you clarify why you're seeking this perm at this time? Anarchyte (talk) 12:04, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
@Anarchyte: I would like to help close requested moves, CfD discussions, and draftify articles without leaving cross-namespace redirects. I see nothing erong with "per nom" !votes; sometimes the nominator has said all there is to say. If you think I need more experience at RM/CfD, I am happy to come back later. Edward-Woodrowtalk 12:22, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
@Edward-Woodrow: Could you spend a couple weeks combing through requested moves to gain some experience there and then return here after? I'm not comfortable granting when you intend on working in an area you have no experience in. I'm not doubting your incubations. As for CfD, I was just meaning that it can be difficult to properly gauge understanding of the related processes/guidelines when the votes aren't substantive. @Anarchyte: That makes sense, thanks. Edward-Woodrowtalk 19:36, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

I've recently been desysoped. I need to reapply for some permissions I'm qualified for but are bundled with the admin rights I've lost. This is one I think. Still figuring out what other rights are normal at my editing level. Thank you. Cheers, Mark Ironie (talk) 01:50, 17 September 2023 (UTC)

@Mark Ironie: You have not moved a page since 2019. Do you think you would use this perm? Anarchyte (talk) 04:46, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
And "recently desysoped" is a reason for caution here. This is not a user bit that is "qualified for" by tenure, or "normal at [anyone's] editing level"; it's a near-administrative bit for particular kinds of technical work, not a hat to re-collect.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  13:01, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

User:Alexandermcnabb

I'm currently nearing the end of my three month trial and would like to extend the right. I use it exclusively for NPP work, sending problematic/unsourced articles to draft without leaving redirects hanging around, and have no current reason or desire to use the right for other more technical moves. Requests for pending changes reviewer

Pending changes reviewer

User:MSincccc

Reason for requesting pending changes reviewer rights I have been editing since January 2022 and meet all the criteria for gaining Pending Changes reviewer right. I might not have rollback rights presently but I have had a commendable track record using the "Undo" tool as well as countering vandalism on free articles which can be edited even by unregistered users. Many of my edits are focused on accuracy and relevancy and for that reason, I am one of the top three contributors of all time on pages such as Catherine, Princess of Wales, William, Prince of Wales, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates and more to name a few. I also aspire to move a number of pages accurately and precisely in the near future and more importantly, gaining review rights only helps me in doing so. Also, I am currently part of a discussion to move the page Princess Charlotte of Wales (born 2015) and I believe I will respect my powers as a reviewer and not misuse it. Thank you. MSincccc (talk) 07:36, 12 September 2023 (UTC)

Not done @MSincccc: Thank you for your enthusiasm, but I am declining your request at this time. I'm concerned by your interpretation of some of our policies, including how source verifiability works and whether vandalism changes with article quality. You've also made confusing changes recently with poor justifications, such as introducing grammatical mistakes (note the removal of the comma) under the explanation of removing WP:OVERLINKing but actually changing nothing, as you simply removed a pipe; removing abbreviation explanations at first instance, and introducing grammatical ambiguity (saying "and the 14 other realms" explicitly states that there are 14 other realms, all of which he controls. Changing this to "and 14 other realms" introduces possible interpretations in which there are 15 or more realms, 14 of which (and no more) he controls). At this juncture, I do not have sufficient confidence in your judgement of policy and manual of style to grant PCR. Feel free to reapply in a few months. Anarchyte (talk) 13:33, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
But @Anarchyte I really believe that I can make good use of PCR. Some mistakes do happen and as far as making grammatical corrections are concerned you should have known that I'm a WikiGnome. Somebody confided in you while giving you these privileges as well and I believe I will prove myself worthy of being a reviewer. Please reconsider as I think this gadget is necessary for my advancement as an ideal Wikipedian. Thank you. MSincccc (talk) 06:42, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
@MSincccc: I understand, but reviewing pending changes means you're going to be reviewing the edits of other, usually less experienced, editors. There are still fundamental areas of our most important policies that you need to better familiarise yourself with. Please consider re-applying in a month or two. Anarchyte (talk) 10:02, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
@Anarchyte: Would you mind granting me rollback rights? The last time I requested for it I had it declined because I was inexperienced with using "Undo", countering vandalism and not providing definite edit summaries. I hope I would be capable of making good use of it now. MSincccc (talk) 10:17, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Rollback is used solely for counter-vandalism. Your use of the undo tool has not been for this purpose (and many of your undos have been reverted), so I do not see a need for rollback at this time. Rollback also has a higher bar for granting than PCR. Consider undergoing the WP:CVUA if you are interested in counter-vandalism. Anarchyte (talk) 10:50, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

User:Saussure4661

In a nutshell:

1. use reliable sources

2. report what the sources say

3. try as best as possible to provide two separate points of views to provide balance/neutrality

4. If the article is about a person that is still alive, the information added has to be sensitive to the person to which the article is dedicated to. "Contentious", meaning that could be a source of conflict, needs to be removed

5. Editing for editing's sake and disrupting the quality of the article is an act of vandalising and needs to be stopped. Editing is an art and content and information must be handled with care

6. if there is an issue but unable to proceed, mark the issue with a tag/template

7. all statements should be sourced, or briefly alluded to if the sources can back up the clarification.

8. All information and digital content needs to avoid infringing on copyright. All images, including those licensed under Creative Commons, need to have written permission for release on WP. Any uploads done without the author's consent warrant a strike and warning from admins, with further violations resulting in the offending editor's blocking/banning from WP

I have over 1000 edits of editing not for editing's sake, but to contribute by fixing neglected articles where they could be fixed. The above points are my general modus operandi. With all this said, I wish to put myself forward to help WP at the next stage Saussure4661 (talk) 18:30, 16 September 2023 (UTC)

@Saussure4661: Do you have any counter-vandalism experience? Anarchyte (talk) 13:42, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
I don't know if it counts as counter-vandalism, but I have tackled instances of abuse of MOS:CONTENTIOUS on both Candace Owens and Unification Church articles Saussure4661 (talk) 14:47, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
@Saussure4661: Would you be happy to re-apply in a month after you have gained a more obvious track record of counter-vandalism? You've rarely used the undo tool, which is the easiest way to demonstrate knowledge of how to distinguish between vandalism and good faith but unconstructive edits. Anarchyte (talk) 10:06, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Happy enough. The lack of the use of the undo button stems from the desire to avoid engaging in any edit wars, which could get me banned. Unless you mean something else Saussure4661 (talk) 23:05, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
@Saussure4661: You cannot get into an edit war undoing vandalism. Please see Wikipedia:Edit warring#What edit warring is. Anarchyte (talk) 09:02, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Requests for rollback

Rollback

User:Reshadp

This may be a bit premature but I'm going to be bold and ask for rollback rights.

I've been patrolling recent changes, and have been using Twinkle to revert vandalism and warn users where required.

I did install Huggle and while this does seem to be much more efficient than the Recent Changes page, it is read-only without the rollback permissions. Reshadp (talk) 04:29, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

Not done There are a few recent reverts where it would have been useful for you to have provided an edit summary. Using rollback is only when it's unambiguously vandalism; if there is a need to explain why a revert took place, the undo tool should be used (like here, where the term "builder" is used later. Your revert was correct, but needed an explanation). I think you're almost there, but a month or so more of experience would benefit you. Anarchyte (talk) 12:58, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Anarchyte thanks for your help, I will work on better explanations. Is there any other advise you would have for me? Reshadp (talk) 05:22, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
Not off the top of my head. Just make sure you familiarise yourself with the differences between good faith edits and vandalism and how to approach each type. Anarchyte (talk) 11:21, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello, I am requesting rollback perms to help better fight vandalism using the AntiVandal tool. I have a track record of anti-vandalism which is mainly through monitoring recent changes using the RedWarn patrol script. ––– GMH MELBOURNE TALK 12:36, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

Most of my Wikipedia edits consist of cleaning up vandalism. While the undo tool is useful, often I find myself having to manually repair multiple changes. I'd like the rollback tool to be able to work more efficiently when I find complex vandalism. Dan Leonard (talk) 18:49, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello, I am requesting rollback rights so I can handle vandalism in other forms other than Twinkle and RW, which I find to have been slower recently. I've also been looking into Huggle, and since it requires rollback rights, I thought now would be the time to ask. I have been dealing with vandalism for years now and know when and how to use it. Thanks for looking this over. Kline | yes? 23:15, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

Reason for requesting rollback rights

I have been editing since October 2021 and believe I can make good use of this privilege. I have a good track record of providing justified edit summaries, being one of the all time highest contributors on a number of pages of well known individuals and also have been countering vandalism and irrelevant changes made across pages. Thank you MSincccc (talk) 10:21, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
