Requests for page protection

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Second request in as many days....2 week long dack and forth. Moxy-Maple Leaf (Pantone).svg 21:01, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

  • Automated comment: A request for protection/unprotection for one or more pages in this request was recently made, and was denied at some point within the last 8 days.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 21:14, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
  • @MelanieN: Courtesy ping, since you declined the previous. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 01:30, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping, but since I commented on the previous request, I will leave it for another admin to evaluate this one. -- MelanieN (talk) 04:08, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
Note: This is the thing: the expectation these days in certain areas of the project seems to be that if you fully-protect a page, you must follow up on the dispute or disputes. Which I don't know how many admins would be willing to do. So, while full protection is clearly called for right now I, at least, am holding off for that reason. El_C 11:11, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
I had seen the previous request and not taken action because most edit warring on extended-confirmed-protected pages can be resolved through warnings and (rarely, mostly partial) blocks. I acknowledge, though, that this may be the wrong approach if a topic attracts random reverts from experienced bypassers. The disruption from these currently appears to be manageably low-frequent enough. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 22:46, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected., in my judgement, the edit-warring is severe enough for a short-term full protection, but is not sufficient for a long-term protection. Now, in a week, protection is going to expire, I set pending changes to avoid immediate damage, but in principle the protection must be restored to extended confirmed as soon as possible.--Ymblanter (talk) 06:38, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

Reason: Repeated additon of unsourced content on page by auto confirmed users User:Pointn and User:Chronikhiles from last few days. Major biased changes under the name of minor changes are being done without providing WP:RS or any edit summary. It all result in compromising the readability and neutrality of page. Kindly, increase the protection from auto confirmed to extended confirmed users. Thanks. Kridha (talk) 06:15, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: BLP Policy Violations. — DaxServer (t · m · c) 09:16, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

Question: DaxServer, she says in that 2017 interview that she's 26, so how could it be 1979? El_C 12:52, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
@El C The DOB was updated per VRTS ticket # 2016051310004058 by Geniac in Special:Diff/1087976281. Nothing more I could do — DaxServer (t · m · c) 12:56, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
Be that as it may, the source attributing 1979 does not actually reflect that birth date (i.e. is a decade off). So that self-contradiction needs to be resolved. We can't fault users (unconfirmed or otherwise) for aligning the info with the citation in question. El_C 13:01, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
Yes, that is valid. How do you suggest one, or maybe I, counter the VRTS ticket [in this scenario] ? Should I put a footnote explaining the same (and move the citation into the footnote stating sourcing and a previous interview contradicts with the VRTS identification) ? — DaxServer (t · m · c) 13:06, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
Forgot to ping @El CDaxServer (t · m · c) 13:07, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
I'm not really sure. Maybe bring the matter to WP:BLPN (with a note to that discussion linked on the article talk page)...? It's probably beyond the scope of RfPP to address, in any case. El_C 13:10, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
Hi El C and DaxServer, I'm surprised I have to point to WP:SOURCE and remove challenged material that was re-added without a published source. 🙂 ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:23, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars (season 7)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Until the season is over. I don't think at this stage IPs or overzealous fans are going to adhere to MOS:ACCESS or allow some stability in the article. There's been some terrible instability around deleting of tables, reformatting and organising information that is not compliant with MOS:TABLE and WP:COLOR. There were heated discussions at multiple admin interventions here and here around previous/other series of Drag Race. Safest bet is to ask editors to post updates on the talkpage instead. ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 09:31, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

There has been constant addition of poorly referenced materials which have been removed in the past just to connect a mythological group with a present day Yadav, Ahir community. The details on the page are exactly opposite to points put up by these IPs. The same IPs constantly attack editors on talk page of article with very choices of abuses. 2000 Mules

Reason: The content is undeniably partisan. In order for Wikipedia to have any legitimacy, it needs to make an attempt at neutrality. The opening sentence says, the documentary "falsely" claimed mules were illegally used in the 2020 election. What is wrong with just saying that the documentary "claims" or "alleges" mules were illegally used in the 2020 election? Criticism and fact checking are fine anyone who denies the existence of voter fraud in the U.S. needs to go to Heritage's online database, where they will find 1,285 proven instances of it—including 1,110 criminal convictions (Newsweek). Many of the "fact checks" in this Wikipedia post are not only biased but contain logic fallacies. Page protection should be used to protect fair and balanced material from corruption, not to prevent it. 2601:603:1580:89D0:51E8:CF55:2CC3:3824 (talk) 22:25, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

Requests for autopatrolled

I have created 26 articles so far, and it would be great to have the next ones appearing on search engines more quickly. PetéWarrior (talk) 11:18, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

Not a regular here, but is that the purpose of autopatrolled? --Deepfriedokra (talk) 12:37, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
@Deepfriedokra: More of a side-effect: new pages are marked as {{NOINDEX}}, telling search engine crawlers to ignore them, until they're patrolled or for 90 days (whichever is first). – Joe (talk) 12:49, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
Do we have any admins who can read Japanese? All the articles appear to be translations and it would be good if somebody could cast their eye over sources. Meanwhile, PetéWarrior, could you please add sources for dates of birth to the bios of living people to comply with Wikipedia:DOB? Schwede66 02:35, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

Greetings, it’s been a few months since I last applied for the permissions. I have created many political articles since then and taken on the feedback from before. I have not faced any issues and received several thank you messages from users with some of my articles making it to ITNR. Considering this, I do feel like its the right time to submit this now. Wish you all a good day. BastianMAT (talk) 21:28, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Me again. Last time, we talked about Wikipedia:DOB where it says "Wikipedia includes ... dates of birth that have been widely published by reliable sources". The date and place of birth for Tiémoko Meyliet Koné is referenced to Latest celebarticles. Does that website constitute a reliable source to you? Schwede66 03:07, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
@Schwede66:, the birth date was right but the source should have been better, pretty hard to find it but eventually found his birth date on the Ivory Coast government website (so went to update that). [5] As you did find that, you must have looked through my other articles too like Dragomir Zakov and all election articles created, is it fine? They have all been approved and as I mentioned some of them have even made it to ITNR. BastianMAT (talk) 07:48, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
Not done I've waited a few days to see whether new bios would turn up and yep, there are three of them. Diannaa, I had a look at Miguel Romero Sotelo and its sources are mostly in Spanish. Turning on Google Translate, it looks like close paraphrasing is a problem. Is there a tool that utilises Google Translate? Earwig does not seem to do it. Either way, this request will have to be declined as Earwig found this one, so the question is just for my own benefit. You may wish to have a closer look at this user's contributions and see what else there is. Can I leave it to you to deal this problem article? I suspect by the time that you've looked at Google Translate, it might be ready for nuking. Schwede66 06:57, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
If you could specify which sources were too closely paraphrased/copied from Google Translate, I would be happy to have a look. — Diannaa (talk) 14:50, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
Sure, Diannaa. The source I looked at is reference #2 (#3 and #5 is a duplicate): Management by Lima Municipality:
  • WP: Romero was born and grew up in Breña
  • GT: He was born and grew up in Breña
  • WP: He has a master's degree in Territorial Planning and Environmental Management from the University of Barcelona and a master's degree in Higher Education from the San Ignacio de Loyola University.
  • GT: He is ... Master in Territorial Planning and Environmental Management from the University of Barcelona. He has a Master's degree in Higher Education from the San Ignacio de Loyola University
  • WP: He later served as Deputy Minister of Housing and Urbanism ... during the governments of Alejandro Toledo and Ollanta Humala.
  • GT: He has served as Deputy Minister of Housing and Construction, and Deputy Minister of Housing and Urbanism, during the governments of Alejandro Toledo and Ollanta Humala.

Thanks for your help. Schwede66 22:18, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Job titles, names of university degrees, names of schools are skewing your assessment. I can't remove any of that content.— Diannaa (talk) 22:24, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
It's still close paraphrasing with little attempt to reword, isn't it, Diannaa? One could instead say:
  • Romero was born in Breña and he was raised in that town.
  • Under presidents Toledo and Humala, he was deputy minister of housing and urbanism.
And that still leaves what Earwig has found. Schwede66 22:43, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
I have cleaned what Earwig found. I am not going to change "born and grew up" that's not necessary.— Diannaa (talk) 22:52, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks. Schwede66 02:57, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

I've made about 50 articles, mostly related to the history of religion, none of which needed much cleanup. My particular areas of interest: ancient texts, philosophy, monasteries, monks. I sometimes translate from Wikipedias in other languages and always give attribution when doing so. Florificapis (talk) 14:32, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello, been on Wikipedia on and off for about 16 years and became more active again this spring. I've always aimed at high quality, well-sourced articles with my edits and page creations. Recently I've been creating new pages for plant species and I'm now approaching altogether 30 created pages. I was just wondering if the Autopatrolled would make sense in my case because lot of those pages follow the same template (with links to Wikidata, Speciesbox, Taxonbar etc.) and it seems bit of unnecessary work to have someone patrol all of them one by one. Autopatrolled would cut that workload. Cheers, Gemena (talk) 13:26, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Done, thanks for your efforts. – Joe (talk) 15:46, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

I've had the Autopatrolled right from January 31st, to May 1st, and I'm still regularly writing articles and would like to reduce the workload of the new pages patrol. Delqa (talk) 21:33, 21 May 2022 (UTC)

@Schwede66: You wanted to look over Delqa's recent creations. – Joe (talk) 15:42, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, Joe. Delqa, last time we communicated, I suggested: "You do not define the DEFAULTSORT parameter when you write bios – please have a look at WP:SORTKEY." You've written five bios since and DEFAULTSORT is missing in all cases. What's up with that? Schwede66 00:27, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

I am requesting Autopatrolled rights. I have started close to 100 articles and I have improved many others. I try to aim for quality and I rarely start stubs. I have started 4 articles that are GAs and others which have been on the main page in DYK. Thank you for considering this request. Bruxton (talk) 17:27, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Reason for requesting confirmed rights: I am one of the IT Technicians at Gippsland Grammar School and would like to edit the Gippsland Grammar School page. Quite a lot of the information provided is outdated. I have absolutely no interest in making edits on other pages in order to gain the AutoConfirmed permissions and would much rather get straight in to editing the one page I have been asked to update. Mass message sender

I find myself needing this permission because of my work on WP:GAN and WP:NPP drives. I already have several other advanced permissions and this would save on the need to ask a mass message sender, for example, to set up a participants page for the next NPP drive. If granted, I would only use the permission to send messages to editors who participate in GAN or NPP, and to help on request with other wiki projects that need to send messages to their membership. I'm aware of the rules regarding sending messages to users who have expressed interest in a project and to include opt-out instructions in regular messages. Although I've never edited the requests page, I've drafted messages that were sent out; for example, I found a mass message sender to deliver this message. (t · c) buidhe 16:36, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Want to help with the backlog. Have experience with nominating AfD and PROD, also participant in AfD discussions (primarily in medicine category). — rsjaffe 🗣️ 20:16, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

I'd like to help with the backlog, by going through some of the more straightforward cases. I've got a bit of experience of AfD discussion, and have nominated 12 articles for deletion, all of which ended up as redirects or deleted. I remember my early days as an editor, which featured some offputting experiences, and will try to always assume good faith, and politely explain reasons for decisions. Reason for requesting new page reviewer rights

Hi. I had been a regular contributor for Wikipedia from last one and half years and spend most of my time writing new articles or updating old articles. I saw message on backlog of lot of new articles pending review and would like to contribute. Thanks Gardenkur (talk) 12:47, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

Not done, you requested these permissions and were declined a mere four days ago. Please don't waste our time with repeated requests. signed, Rosguill talk 18:47, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi Rosguill . Sorry as got confused between Rollback and New Page Reviewer. Thanks for your patience. Gardenkur (talk) 02:44, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

I would like to help out with the backlog reviewing new pages. I also hold pending changes reviewer/rollbacker permissions as well so I'm familiar with policy and have been on WP for quite a long time with 10k+ edits here and 2k on Commons. —  dainomite   17:01, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

Done for 1 month as a trial run, given that it's been a few years since you were last particularly active at AfD, after which you may reapply. signed, Rosguill talk 18:51, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

Saw the notice about the backlog and wanted to help. I have experience in AfD discussions, a strong understanding of Wikipedia policy, and I have familiarized myself with the New Page Review Tutorial. Cerebral726 (talk) 17:45, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

Why not? Already do some AfC reviewing, tried pending changes but workload too light to need more than a few reviewers there. So if I can be of help, sign me up. Slywriter (talk) 19:04, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

I wish to make myself more useful by reviewing new pages. I believe I possess sufficient experience in being able to identify and distinguish between acceptable and problematic creations, seeing I have experience with vandalism (I also have PCR and rollback rights, and regularly patrol recent changes). I am familiar with AfD, including page nominations, and have thoroughly studied the NPR guidelines multiple times. Would not be opposed to a trial run. thanks, Liamyangll (talk to me!) 02:15, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
Requests for page mover

Page mover

I am a regular patroller of new pages at Special:newpagesfeed. I draftify pages, if they meet WP:Draftify, and if they are not read for mainspace. All my draftification acts can be found at User:Itcouldbepossible/Draftify log. I am requesting page mover rights, because after my draftification, there is a redirect kept behind, there are times at which, that the user returns and add content to the redirect page, and I become the owner of the article, which I don't want. My second reason is that, I don't want to keep behind a redirect and increase work for admins to delete the redirect. So, these are the main reasons behind seeking page mover rights. And a least import reason is that, it would be easier for me to move pages within my userspace, and also whenever I create articles, or move well developed articles to mainspace, when new editors cannot do it themselves. Few months back I had requested for this right. But at that time, I was comparatively new, and so the request was not accepted (I hope the bot links it to this request), but now I have passed the minimum age the account should be. So I hope this time, I am qualified enough to be made a page mover on the grounds of my need. Regards, ItcouldbepossibleTalk 08:35, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

Done But since you are still relatively new, and most of your page-moving experience is limited to draftifying, I've given the right for three months. Please re-request at that time for indefinite page-moving rights. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 06:18, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
@Arbitrarily0 Thanks a lot for reviewing my request. I am surely going to use this right carefully, and am surely going to request for it after the trial period finishes. Thanks again for giving me this right. Regards, ItcouldbepossibleTalk 07:05, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
@Arbitrarily0 But, can you tell me something. Why didn't I receive the sort of information on my talk page that I always receive when my permission request gets accepted. I got a message regarding the the rollbacker right, and then after that, some time later, my pending changes reviewer right has got accepted, and then a message regarding the right. Why didn't I receive such a message this time? ItcouldbepossibleTalk 07:08, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
It's typical to send such a message, but I forgot in this case. But I just sent one anyways. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 07:11, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

Requests for pending changes reviewer

Pending changes reviewer

Good track record, never been blocked, and have over 16,000 edits to the project with almost 600 of them in the last week. I understand policy and guidelines, and would like to help with backlogs and protect pages against vandalism. Brian (talk) 04:23, 16 May 2022 (UTC) Brian (talk) 04:23, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

I am requesting for permissions to have pending changes reviewer to be able to help the other pending changes reviewers in their task to make Wikipedia vandalism-free. I have numerous contributions in reverting vandalism and I hope to make an impactful change to help and have read the corresponding guidelines. I am rollbacker in the Simple English Wikipedia which indicates that I have substantial trust and can help. MrMeAndMrMeLet's talk 18:02, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I have thousands of edits and routinely editing the biographies of living people while remaining neutral. With my experience of editing and following BLP and Vandalism policies, I request you to provide permission to the Pending change reviewers. Pranesh Ravikumar (talk) 17:27, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

I would like to request this right, after reading through all necessary materials at Wikipedia:Reviewing pending changes#Becoming a reviewer. Thanks, NotReallySoroka (talk) 03:44, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi! Just requesting this permission as I pretty often come across pending changes, and I believe I am an experienced enough editor to review them! I'm very familiar with all the relevant wiki policies ƒin (talk) 06:12, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
Requests for rollback

Hi i'm combatting a lot a vandalism and i would love to be a rollbacker beacause i love combatting vandalism! I am a lot active (especially on W-Ends) and i check recent changes almost every day. I have about 250 mainspace edits which makes me eligible. Thank you Airtransat236 (talk | contribs) 15:57, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Not done You seem to be on the right track, however I am concerned about the recency of this incident. The edit you reverted was clearly not vandalism. Please ensure that the edits you are reverting are indeed vandalism, and not legitimate contributions. Thanks, FASTILY 09:13, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
Do you think that i can reapply in 6 months? Airtransat236 (talk | contribs) 15:41, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
Airtransat236, you can reapply in 3 months. Whether it will be granted is a different question. Passing WP:CVUA would make success more likely. Cabayi (talk) 08:19, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I am mostly active on pages related to the history of Rajasthan and battles related to the north-western parts of India. Such pages are susceptible to vandalism and I try my best to keep them cited and historically accurate. Therefore I would love to have this comfort for reverting vandalism. Ranadhira (talk) 05:04, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Not done Would like to see more evidence that, after reverting a change, you notify the editor (especially those editing from IP addresses). Please practice this for a few months, and then re-request! Arbitrarily0 (talk) 06:00, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

I applied over a month ago for Rollback permissions. I have over 5,000 edits and most of them involve patrolling the recent changes page and reverting vandalism. I was told previously that my reverting of vandalism warnings were not conducted exactly right. I have since corrected for this and hope to receive the Rollback permission now. I also use Twinkle and Red Warn, but this permission will be very useful for my reverting purposes. I might also add that I receive many "thanks" for my reverting of vandalism and improving the encyclopedia is very important to me. Pulpfiction621 (talk) 19:23, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

I believe that I have seen and reverted enough vandalism that I am worthy of this right to help out. I have notified editors for reverting their edits, I am willing to step down when I realised I erroneously reverted someone, and I will continue to do these two things going forward. Thanks, NotReallySoroka (talk) 03:43, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

Not done I reviewed your contributions and found little to no recent anti-vandalism work. If you want the right, please spend a few weeks patrolling RecentChanges (Twinkle & RedWarn can help with that) before reapplying. Also, please start warning editors when you revert their edits. Thanks, FASTILY 05:14, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
Requests for template editor

Template editor

I love editing, maintaining, and removing vandalism in every templates. So I had an idea to request a template editor membership, and came here to get one. I swear to follow every template editing rules and guidelines, and to remove content that may be considered vandalism or not-related, especially in removing non-free images in country data, user in, and flagicon image templates. Thank You. LikeRealTimes (talk) 10:25, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Not done, fails minimum metrics per the bot. User can do all of what they want on all but a very small number of templates (which wouldn't be vandalised anyway because of protection). Primefac (talk) 10:44, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
