Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

March Madness 2017
G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

Can you help verify translations of articles from Romanian
Hello,
Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from Romanian to English Wikipedia?
This would involve evaluating a translated article on English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original Romanian article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:
There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including Romanian , using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Romanian. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.
If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:
SubcarpațiAlexandru Lăpușan- Lot and his Daughters, with Sodom and Gomorrah Burning
- Neculai Alexandru Ursu
- Art Museum of Cluj-Napoca
All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Romanian article, and mark it "Pass" or "Fail" (templates {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} may be useful). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then marking it "Pass", that's even better, but it isn't required.)

Dacian moths?
Utidava, Singidava, Sandava, Petrodava, Patridava, Dierna and Arcina are all genera of moths as well as being Dacian towns mentioned by Ptolemy. This is surely not a coincidence. Have you any idea of the connection? — 176.35.63.5 (talk) 17:53, 17 August 2017 (UTC)

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting
As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. "Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive
G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
- updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

O masterandă a tradus articolul ro:Cetatea Timișoara, dar aici se pare că Wizzardul i l-a pus în sandbox. Cum se procedează aici, mutarea în spațiul articolelor trebuie aprobată de cineva? Sau îl pot muta eu la Timișoara Fortress?
După mutare aș vrea să aduc o completare (un capitol și referințe de la o sursă maghiară), iar apoi, dacă sunteți dispus, poate corectați exprimarea.

- Perhaps Denisse will no longer contribute to this article. She is a student at Lidia Vianu's masterate — The MA Programme for the Translation of the Contemporary Literary Text — English, Bucharest University. The students want also to address other texts that need to be translated, not just literary ones. First, from ro.wp I have proposed about 10 articles. Only this was a big one, and Denisse signed up to translate it. Every topic has been assigned to someone else, but they have not yet translated, it's summer. Other topics could be proposed from this portal. The portal is managed by ro:Utilizator:Macreanu Iulian and was awarded. Obviously, other articles can also be proposed. Writ from Radu Cel Frumos
Hi Codrin, I am currently doing a university research assignment on Radu cel Frumos and I noticed that you uploaded the image of the "Writ issued on 14 October 1465 by Radu cel Frumos, from his residence in Bucharest" [1] in his article. I would really love to use this as a primary source however, the source for the image on wikipedia led me to a dead end. I was wondering if you had any more information on this document? Or a source for it? Or even a translation? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Lexi P.S. - Thanks for reaching out. I was not the original uploader of this image. It was uploaded by commons:User:Laurap. You may reach at her. I simply did some cleanup, translation, copy-editing etc. The original source was http://museum.ici.ro/mbucur/romanian/epoca_feudala.htm but since has been gone. But I found an older version in the web archive. Hope it helps and good luck with your research! Let me know what you find out. AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.
The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Help at Romanian Wikipedia
Hi! I'm reaching out because you're one of the recently active members of WikiProject Romania.
I noticed that this user made promotional edits at University of Bucharest. I have already dealt with those edits, but I see that they also edited the same article on the Romanian Wikipedia quite extensively. I don't speak Romanian, so I cannot evaluate these edits, nor add an appropriate template (like Template:Paid or Template:Undisclosed paid) to the article there. Could you take a look at their edits and perhaps notify them on their talk page at the Romanian Wikipedia that paid editors should not edit directly, especially not for promotional purposes?
