Notice to participants at this page about adminship

Many participants here create a lot of content, have to evaluate whether or not a subject is notable, decide if content complies with BLP policy, and much more. Well, these are just some of the considerations at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship.

So, please consider taking a look at and watchlisting this page:

You could be very helpful in evaluating potential candidates, and maybe even finding out if you would be a suitable RfA candidate.

Many thanks and best wishes,

Pashto names of colleges

User:PakGov recently changed the Pashto names of various colleges, for example Jinnah Medical College and Khyber Girls Medical College. I reverted them here because I'm pretty sure that there's a difference in Pashto between Khyber Medical College and Khyber Medical University, but I couldn't verify the Pashto names of the other colleges I checked. One option would be to simply remove the Pashto names altogether unless there's a reliable source. Thoughts? Huon (talk) 23:43, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:50, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

"Serial" in the context of Pakistani television

Is anyone here familiar with Pakistani television and can explain to me what "serial" or "drama serial" means in the Pakistani television context? From reading various sources I'm left confused, as some make it seem as they are either drama TV series, telenovela series or a limited 1-season series. Pakistani dramas doesn't help nor does Miniseries. Just to give some background - in the UK, "serial" means a short (6 or so episode) series, similar to the US "miniseries". The Hum Awards which give a Hum Award for Best Drama Serial says in the lead Best Drama Serial is considered the most important of the Hum Awards, as it represents all the directing, acting, music, writing, and other efforts put forth into a drama. They also have awards for sitcom, soap and telefilm, which either means Hun have no "regular" non-sitcom TV series on their network, or that "serial" in Pakistani television means "TV series" in western television. Thanks in advance. --Gonnym (talk) 09:35, 8 September 2018 (UTC)

Does Sheikhupura Division exist?

According to the Wikipedia article, Sheikhupura Division comprises Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib districts (formerly of Lahore division). However, I'm finding trouble locating solid evidence for this division's existence. For example, the 2017 census makes no mention of it and it still lists the two districts as part of Lahore Division [4]. And the wikipedia article's sourcing looks iffy: of the four references, only one (a 2009 blog post) mentions the division at all, and only as a proposal. – Uanfala (talk) 02:29, 24 January 2020 (UTC)

Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba

I fell across Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba purely by accident; it was listed in Category:Pages with DEFAULTSORT conflicts. I fixed that problem and some formatting errors, and tagged it as {{unreferenced}}, {{notability}} and {{pov}}. I then did some searching. I was surprised to find when I returned to the page only ten minutes later, that it had been pretty much blanked and the maintenance tags removed. I've added a sentence backed up by four WP:RS citations, which IMO solve all three maintenance problems. I have no interest in this topic; but members of this WikiProject may care to expand the article and/or watchlist it. Having regard to the state of the article as I found it and as I left it, it seems possible that my edit might soon be removed. Narky Blert (talk) 22:53, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

Munir Ahmad Khan

Hello there,

Is there any rule or standard practice regarding which English language variation template to use on Bio pages like Munir Ahmad Khan? It seems to have been tagged as 'Use British English' since October 2012. Recently an editor, without justifying or discussing the change, has changed it to 'Use American English'. When reverted back, they change it back again. Comments or advice please? Regards, 220 of ßorg 17:08, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi 220 of Borg. Please take a look at MOS:ENGVAR and MOS:TIES for reference. There's no one particular English variant that all articles have to use. Generally, editors are asked to defer to the variant originally used by the first main contributor to the article unless there's a really good reason (usually determined through WP:CONSENSUS) to change to another variant. Perhaps the best thing to do here would be to post a friendly message on the other editor's user talk page inviting them to discuss there reasons for changing to American English on the article's talk page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:41, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
Thank you, Marchjuly I haven't had much to do with these language issues before, but was aware of ENGVAR and TIES. The editor in question is mostly 'mute", incommunicative, and rarely users an edit summary, even when making very large edits. I have left lots of template notices/ warnings, friendly, and terse, personal messages and suggestions, as long ago as 2015. They do take notice of in text {{clarify}}, and similar, tags though.
'Khan's' page has been at 'British English' since late 2012, I don't think it was tagged before then. I think British could be expected due to the historical connections, and I restored that to the page before enquiring here.
They've made a few edits 'overnight', here. They have a peculiar habit of WP:Piping every single wiki-link, like [[Rock|rock]] similar to here, [[Laser science|laser science]], etc. which seems to serve no purpose, and just clutters up the page possibly making editing a bit harder. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Regards, 220 of ßorg 04:18, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

Request for an article on the scandal on fake pilots' licences

It's being alleged that a significant percentage of Pakistani airline pilots obtained their licences fraudulently:

  • "Pakistani pilots grounded over 'fake licences'". BBC News. 25 June 2020. Archived from the original on 27 June 2020.
  • "Almost a third of Pakistani pilots have fake licences, aviation minister says". Times of Malta. AFP. 26 June 2020. Archived from the original on 27 June 2020.

This should be mentioned in the Pakistan International Airlines Flight 8303 article, and I think it also merits its own article. Would any editors interested in writing this article please? I am also making this request at WikiProject Aviation. --Xwejnusgozo (talk) 08:15, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Milan (Pakistani TV series)

The article Milan (Pakistani TV series) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2020 July 22#Adhura Milan revealed that this article is likely to contain incorrect information. The article has no citation to independent sources and currently doesn't provide an Urdu title, making it difficult to verify the article content. Recommend deletion per WP:N and WP:TNT.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Deryck C. 22:30, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Independence Day article

It would be helpful if someone could keep an eye on Independence Day (Pakistan) for the next couple of days, as it is attracting some unhelpful drive-bys. Punjab parameter

Uanfala (talk · contribs) would like to know why I removed the |Punjab= parameter from {{WikiProject Pakistan}} - but I didn't, it was removed by UnitedStatesian (talk · contribs) with this edit at 04:17, 7 January 2020 (UTC). Apparently I should now seek retrospective permission on this page. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:01, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the question; it was because Wikipedia:WikiProject Punjab has created their own separate banner template, at {{WikiProject Punjab}}. All articles within the scope of that project should have that template added, rather using a subproject parameter of {{WikiProject Pakistan}}. Any other questions, please let me know. UnitedStatesian (talk) 15:05, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
Just noting that Wikipedia:WikiProject Punjab, if it still is any active, covers both Indian and Pakistani Punjab. Anyway, this was brought up here because I objected to the removal of |Punjab= from instances of this projects' banner on article talk pages. This appears to be a result of last year's deletion of the project pages for Punjab and the KPK task forces (observing that Wikipedia:WikiProject Sindh and Wikipedia:WikiProject Balochistan, Pakistan remain). I don't think these two subprojects are necessarily any more active than the ones that got deleted. The crux is whether we would like to have task forces for each province or not. If yes, then the existing tags for Punjab and KPK that are in places on article talk pages should be left alone. If, on the other hand, it's decided that we will never need such task forces, then it makes sense to remove these tags, likely along with the ones for Sindh and Balochistan. – Uanfala (talk) 15:51, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Update to peer review page

Hi all, I've boldly updated your project's peer review page (Wikipedia:WikiProject Pakistan/Peer review) by updating the instructions and archiving old reviews.

The new instructions use Wikipedia's general peer review process (WP:PR) to list peer reviews. Your project's reviews are still able to be listed on your local page too.

The benefits of this change is that review requests will get seen by a wider audience and are likely to be attended to in a more timely way (many WikiProject peer reviews remain unanswered after years). The Wikipedia peer review process is also more maintained than most WikiProjects, and this may help save time for your active members.

I've done this boldly as it seems your peer review page is pretty inactive and I am working through around 90 such similar peer review pages. Please feel free to discuss below - please ping me ({{u|Tom (LT)}}) in your response.

Cheers and hope you are well, Tom (LT) (talk) 00:06, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Khes

  FYI
 – Pointer to relevant discussion elsewhere.

Please see Talk:Khes. This article and its primary author could use some help. The topic appears at least marginally encyclopedic, but the main editor (not a native English speaker) seems to have trouble understanding the core content policies, parsing the exact meaning of the sources and citing them accurately (may have even contradicted them in a few places). As I've suggested on the talk page, there are probably non-English sources that are good for this (perhaps already listed in non-English articles at South Asian-languages Wikipedias that haven't been linked to this article yet). I already did a cleanup pass on the page, last night, to make it more comprehensible, but there are sourcing issues I can't really deal with. I'll notify WT:INDIA, too, since this topic is kind of a pan-Punjab thing.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  00:57, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

Talk consolidation

It's confusing that WP:PAK goes to the wikiproject but WT:PAK goes to Wikipedia talk:Notice board for Pakistan-related topics instead of this page. Why are these pages even separate? WP:INDIA has merged theirs, and this is probably more productive. That is, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject India redirects to Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics. If WP:PAK doesn't do likewise, people are either going to leave notices in one place and miss attention from people who mostly read the other, or will leave duplicate notices (as I did above, about Khes) which will reach all the relevant parties but probably be seen twice by several of them.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  01:06, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

Ghizer

Hi. The 2019 splitting of Ghizer District (1974–2019) into Ghizer District (2019–) and Gupis-Yasin District has created a bit of a mess on Wikipedia. First of all, there's a few links to Ghizer District (now a disambiguation page) referring to locations of which I'm not sure whether they're now in Ghizer (2019-) or Gupis-Yasin. Also, lots of pages link to Ghizer, which is currently a redirect to Ghizer District (1974–2019). Should Ghizer be retargeted to Ghizer District, or should it be made into a separate disambiguation page? Some pages that link to it seem to refer to the "Ghizer Valley", and I'm not sure if this valley is just the area that rougly corresponds to the old Ghizer district, or something different. And in any case, the links to that page should be fixed, as well. I hope that someone who knows a little more about the region than I do (which is absolutely nothing) can help with this! Lennart97 (talk) 22:00, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

@Lennart97: This is a bit of a mess isn't it. From my understanding, I think the Ghizer Valley is this and the surrounding area which comes under Gupis-Yasin. As for the redirects, can you link which pages you are talking about that link to Ghizer. However I'm not entirely sure myself, so take what i say with a pinch of salt. CreativeNorth (talk) 16:25, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
@CreativeNorth: Thanks for your reply. The pages that link to Ghizer are listed here. Lennart97 (talk) 16:32, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
@Lennart97: I think I've fixed fifteen of them can you check this one though. Thanks. CreativeNorth (talk) 17:10, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
@CreativeNorth: Thanks a lot! Khalti Lake, based simply on its location on the map, just south of the town of Yasin, is definitely in Gupis-Yasin District, which also means it cannot be in Punial. I've changed that in the article. Would you mind taking a look at the remaining links to Ghizer District as well? Also, do you agree that Ghizer should be turned into a disambiguation page containing both Ghizer districts, the Ghizer/Gilgit river and the Golaghmuli Valley/Koh-i-Ghizer? Lennart97 (talk) 18:00, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
@Lennart97: I’ve linked three of them but the disambiguation page links to another disambiguation page so I’m not sure what to do about that. Yes I do agree that Ghizer should be turned into a page that has links to both districts. Don’t forget Ghizer Tehsil though. Thanks. CreativeNorth (talk) 18:37, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
@CreativeNorth: The link from Ghizer District (disambiguation) is intentional and I've resolved the remaining ones on List of hydroelectric power stations in Pakistan; with that, all links are resolved. I've turned Ghizer into a disambigation page as discussed, you can check whether it's complete and improve if necessary. Thank you very much for helping to fix this mess! Seeking help editing an article

Hi everyone,

I am a student who is new to Wikipedia. In one of my subjects, I am editing and updating the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement article. I was wondering if anyone would be able to provide me with some feedback and help me improve it.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! :)

S2102sa (talk) 01:29, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

Hey there, @S2102sa:, your work on the page has been excellent; however, I am concerned about your sourcing. It seems to me that you are sourcing mostly from books or research material. Wikipedia policy states that you should not use original research. of course, if I am misunderstanding or the source really is correct, please let me know. Also, the method in which you source is confusing. Usage of an academic word such as "et al" can be confusing to many, Wikipedia should be understandable to average people. I recommend sourcing from online trustworthy news articles, such as Dawn, The News, and Jang. If you are going to cite from books, at least provide a link to it (perhaps Google books?). I recommend that you replace your sources with sources from online news articles and link your book sources. I am not trying to discourage you, your editing has been mostly excellent, however, the sourcing is a problem. Fixing it is appreciated. Thanks! RealKnockout (talk) 17:48, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

@RealKnockout: Okay, thank you so much! I did see that Wikipedia policy advises for original research to not be used so that's why I have been using peer-reviewed journal articles that are characterised as 'secondary' and 'good sources', see Wikipedia:Reliable_sources#Scholarship, the articles I have been using are just reporting on previously known information and data so I believe that I am able to use these. However, I will fix up the "et al." and implement more newspaper articles! Thank you so much for the rating and the advice, I will continue to improve and edit the article. S2102sa (talk) 03:51, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification on your sources. Keep up the good work and soon enough we can get that article up to B-class rating 💪!RealKnockout (talk) 17:20, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

S2102sa (talk) 04:41, 29 May 2021 (UTC) @S2102sa: I have upgraded the article to a B-class, as I think it meets those requirements. One thought I've had, try making sections about the thoughts and ideas leading up to the agreement and criticism/concerns. That could provide some helpful background info. @CWH: I am not as great as an editor as you may think. I may actually just be a novice. About Insignia of Inter-Services Intelligence

I am litle bit confused about it as I've seen many editors are trying to remove currently used insignia of the article to this old Markhor one which became very popular since it was first revealed in 2014 as according to just like this tweet by Pakistani journalist Wajahat Saeed Khan. Now, it seems that Inter Services Intelligence have changed their insignia now to the currently one that is used in article presently. If you look at these these sources which I am going to explain now:

  • If you look at this source which is about Pakistani Army chief's visit to ISI headquarters in August 2020, you can see the logo right behind inscribed on the flag which is the official insignia usually used by Pakistan Armed Forces.
  • But when you see at this source which is about Pakistan's current PM Imran Khan's visit to ISI headquarters in Novembor 2020, you can see the insignia right behind inscribed on the flag got changed.
  • And here are some fresh and clear photos of this flag insignia shown at these sources:[5][6] of which second one is of Inter-Services Public Relations which is the official media wing of Pakistan Armed Forces, you can see the logo right clearly on the right side flag and you can see emblem also right behind the two officials (whom are current DG ISI Faiz Hameed and Pakistan's former Air chief Mujahid Anwar Khan) in the image of the source of Dunya News one, the logo has a difference of eagle bird only but flag inscribed logo is same identical to the current one used in main article. So the question is why many editors are trying to add this old logo again as it has changed now and I've cleared this in File:Pakistan ISI Logo.png description page too. Although it may be kept fairly used in the main article in its History section if someone likes! Can someone adress to my this confusion quickly please? Wallu2 (talk) 12:10, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
@Wallu2: The thing is that the news of a new logo does not seem to have spread widely. While I have found Reddit posts and defence.pk threads with people talking about how the logo has been changed, the problem is we cannot find any RS to back up our claim in the face of opposition. The closest thing I found to a reliable source is this tweet by defence.pk (I didn't actually view this tweet yet, it's blocked on my PC so may be incorrect). Anyway, I think you are justified in your belief of a new logo. Perhaps go on the talk page and make a post with the sources you have and the tweet I gave (if valid) and wait a while for any opposition. Once it is resolved, upload the new logo and nobody should have a problem with it (and if they do, you can cite the discussion you had). RealKnockout (talk) 13:07, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

@CreativeNorth and Saqib: I realized belatedly I had not acknowledged these responses, my apologies. Thank you, I appreciate the help. Saqib, if I may, could you elaborate? I do not read Urdu, and do not trust google to accurately translate information about the website. Vanamonde (Talk) 12:38, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
@Vanamonde93: This site has no credibility in terms of editorial as I can see. Its clearly a user generated website which generally publish guest articles. Their about us page says NDM started as a Facebook platform. Later, we started our Youtube channel and in early 2018 we built this website in English and Urdu. We shouldn't be calling a merely couple years old news website as a RS. The page further says Naya Daur Media has attempted to support and strengthen citizen voices and provide a platform to bloggers, v-loggers and reporters so that citizen journalism turns and that we intend to become a citizen portal where the young Pakistanis (and those of Pakistani descent) find their voice and express themselves. Which means its more like a blog than a news website. As far I can see, their most active user which is news desk generally copy paste press releases or news stories from other mainstream news websites. Hope this clarifies. --Saqib (talk) 13:50, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
Saqib, extremely helpful, thank you. Vanamonde (Talk) 14:12, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
@Vanamonde93: @Saqib: Pinging these users because they may be interested in this update; Naya Daur says that they have "partnered" with a newspaper called The Friday Times and that users should visit that site instead (seems like a full-blown merger to me, but whatever). The Friday Times seems to confirm this as its new website wordmark has both agencies' logos. The about us section is lengthy (I didn't bother reading it, just skimmed it). The Friday Times seems like a decent source, it has its own Wikipedia Article and seems reliable. Should it be acceptable as a source? RealKnockout (talk) 12:44, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
If content remains at the nayadaur.tv website, I'd say we still shouldn't be using it, per Saqib above. Conversely I don't think the merger invalidates The Friday Times as a source, it still seems fine. Vanamonde (Talk) 15:05, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

Article Review

Hi, Can someone please review this article. It came into my radar when I saw this and this where the author is writing about himself. I wanted to nominate if for deletion as it fails WP:RS and it looks like that the references are self-published and the article contains irrelevant content (for example promotional content about the movie producer etc) . Can anyone here please have a look at it? Thanks. PediaXmark (talk) 22:14, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

Requesting some article expansion help

Greetings,

Hi, I am User:Bookku, I find information and knowledge gaps create Drafts, try to recruit draft expanding editors and promote drafts articles for further expansion.

Requesting your visit to following drafts pertaining to South Asia and help expand the same if any of these interests you.

Thanks and warm regards

Aroosa is not notable, please - the sorry state of affairs in Punjab politics is a sight to behold. This is not Wikitionery to have an entry on "Aurat" either.
Love in Pakistan and Urdu Feminist Literature are fascinating (and valid) topics - if you need resources, give a ping. I will take up the article on forced conversion.
No idea about the rest. TrangaBellam (talk) 14:06, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

@TrangaBellam: I keep collecting sources and develop as I get time without worrying whether those will sustain independent article or get merged somewhere in future. It's true that my list of drafts is long enough and any one taking up an article relieves me a lot.

I have added one earlier forgotten Draft:Rehmatul-lil-Aalameen Authority in above list (Some critics says Imran Khan is going on lines of Z.A. Bhutto look modern but play conservative, whatever their political compulsions Imran Khan envisioned new institution is under criticism from Pakistan's liberals. Whatever the case encyclopedia takes note and the world remains aware is better, IMHO.

Many thanks for taking up article of forced conversion. Also would eagerly need assistance in Love in Pakistan and Urdu Feminist Literature.

( Btw many times I feel that for all South Asian WP projects had only one page would have been better. Like wise for other continents. Presently I have to remove one article from this country list and another from other before posting expansion request messages. :) )

During the Mughal rule, it was a title awarded to eminent people, while during British rule, the term was associated with jagirdars and social leaders. this surname is given to the noble families. It was also used as a title by military commanders responsible for four separate forces, including the cavalry, navy, infantry and elephant corps.[4] These people belonged to the zamindar families in British India.[6][verification needed]
the common female equivalent was Chouhdary.[2] Many landlords under the Permanent Settlement carried this surname.Land reforms after the partition of India abolished the permanent settlement. In modern times, the term is a common South Asian surname for both males and females.
Chouhdary is a surname not a cast. Chouhdary is a family surname. for this surname you have to born with it. Basically they are feudal lords.and born with golden spoon.
they have two names before surname "Chouhdary".they are attracted towards feudal system. they plays important role in progress and welfare of there native area. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 39.41.157.178 (talk) 15:32, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

An old mass of unsourced articles about places in KPK

Has anyone seen this series of article creations from 2014? There are over 300 articles, mostly about union councils in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, created by the same editor in extremely rapid succession and all apparently following the same formula. The trouble is, the only sourcing appears to be a cookie-cutter list of four "External links" entries, which upon closer inspection turn out not to contain any content at all about the places in question. Unless the small sample I've checked was biased, this means that these articles were unsourced upon creation, and most of them appear to have remained such. That's obviously a problem. – Uanfala (talk) 22:41, 4 April 2022 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

So, we've got an article at AfD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Battle of Jammu (1399). It's a pretty big, pretty good article. The thing is, not only is not referenced, we basically can't find any references. It's been suggested that it's a hoax. Except there's tiny reference. It's just odd. It's a nice article otherwise, we hate to just dump it. There's more at the AfD. None of us can read any Pakistani languages. So if anyone here can take a look at it, that'd be nice, thanks. WP:SURNAME confusion

I posted this question at WP:TEAHOUSE and received a suggestion to try here on this Wikiproject.

I'm trying to figure out how WP:SURNAME should be applied consistently in articles about Pakistani officials.

For example, consider Ziauddin Butt. The subject is referred to as the first name "Ziauddin" or "General Ziauddin" throughout the article. The very same article also refers to Nawaz Sharif in the lead as the second name "Sharif" but in the article about him, he is referred to as the first name "Nawaz". And yet the same lead paragraph also refers to General Pervez Musharraf as the second name "Musharraf" as well as in the article about him, and not the first name "Pervez".

If we were to be consistent with WP:SURNAME, how should those three articles refer to their subjects? There is no consistency between them now. ~Anachronist (talk) 17:02, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

@Anachronist: although there's no formal policy or guideline as to how Pakistani people should be referred in biographic articles but in Pakistan people are usually known by their first names as you've seen on Ziauddin Butt's page. However as to Nawaz Sharif and Pervez Musharraf, they are mentioned in international newspapers by their surnames so that's why their articles use their surnames accordingly. Muneebll (talk) 15:45, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. It makes sense to be consistent in one article, although it stuck me as strange for the name usage to be inconsistent in the same article. The article on Ziauddin Butt refers to the subject by the first name, but other people by their surnames. Rather than making an assumption and fixing it myself, I thought I'd ask here first what the common practice should be. ~Anachronist (talk) 04:39, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Myra Sajid

The article Myra Sajid has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Kohistan District

Hi folks! Like the issue with the now-divided Chitral District, Kohistan District articles need to be re-categorized according to their new districts. I've done some sorting, but there are still articles lacking coordinates or any other indication as to their current location. If anyone's interested in either of these districts, please have a look at the Kohistan articles and the Chitral District articles and see whether you can re-sort them for those of us with little knowledge of the geography. There aren't that many, truly. Thanks! Her Pegship (?) 22:26, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Political Flags

Hi, I'm seeking input from this project on the matter of political party flags. The Wikipedia Manual of Style suggests that flags should be avoided in infoboxes. This is to avoid giving some fields in the infobox unnecessary dominance, and flags are also frequently not much else than decoration, adding nothing informational for the reader. But some editors seem to be adding these to articles on Pakistani politicians, where the politician's party allegiances are listed in the infobox.

So my questions are;

  • Is there particular value to having these flags? Will the average reader recognise and find them of use?
  • Is there a case for the the manual of style being over-ruled in this particular case?
  • Either way, is there a suitable place where guidance to editors could be recorded for this?

Can anyone help settle this? See the edit history. It's about location, but I can't do anything with it. Drmies (talk) 14:09, 24 February 2024 (UTC)

Does anyone have time to look at Jarwar? Heavily edited this month. Specifically, the image needs a caption. Thanks. Tacyarg (talk) 14:23, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Next Pakistani Senate election

The sources I'm finding aren't very clear but indicate the title should be 2024 Pakistani Senate election (14 March). Is this correct? Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 21:17, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
