IP Edits edit

Please respect the wiki project. Some people prefer to edit under an ip address. Just because someone chooses this method does not mean the edits are incorrect. Please stop rv edits made under an IP address. Research indicates that you have done this to correct edits over 1000 times in the last year. Please stop. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.193.65.107 (talk) 17:34, 3 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@67.193.65.107: I don't care whether you use an IP address or user name, as you said I "correct edits". I look at the edits, not who made them. If you don't like that complain to the admin.Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 17:40, 3 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
@67.193.65.107: Update: I've looked at more than 120 000 edits using Wikiloop-doublecheck. Some of those I have reverted, most are just fine. Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 15:15, 12 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello Wyatt Tyrone Smith, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Taxation in South Africa have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 16:19, 26 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Joburg? edit

Hi. At User:Wyatt Tyrone Smith § A bit about me, you write ... City of Joburg (spelled without an apostrophe), (formerly Johannesburg) .... The Johannesburg article doesn't mention such a renaming, except that it appears in some of the source titles, which could be attributed to the slang contraction that's been in common use for decades (though I usually have seen/used an apostrophe). Looking at the "official"(?) website, I see "Joburg" pretty universally, but at the bottom of the page, "© 2018 City of Johannesburg". Is this just a "re-branding" effort, or is it more than that? In any case, it might deserve brief explanation in the article. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 16:27, 26 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Alan. Yes, Johannesburg was officially renamed "City of Joburg" - I haven't felt inclined to write anything about it on the Johannesburg page but I might put on the "backburner". Regards, Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 16:32, 26 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Adriana Marais edit

On 13 September 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Adriana Marais, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that South African theoretical physicist Adriana Marais was one of 100 candidates chosen for Mars One? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Adriana Marais. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Adriana Marais), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Disambiguation link notification for September 28 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Order of Mapungubwe, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ismail Mohamed (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

ArbCom 2019 election voter message edit

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:24, 19 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Doug Weller: Thanks for the notice. What is the upshot of this? Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 14:54, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well, I guess the worst upshot is that you can now be sanctioned, which can include a topic ban. It is just a standard alert that people should get if they are editing a lot in the area, and it was sensibly decided that sanctions shouldn't be applied unless an editor knew about the sanctions, ie by being alerted, giving someone else one, being involved in a discussion at WP:AE etc. I list some at the top of my talk page, ie I've self-alerted. Just follow our policies and guidelines, you'll be ok. Doug Weller talk 16:41, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Doug Weller: Thanks for clarifying that. I don't really mind if I'm banned from editing pages about psychics as I have no real interest in doing that and have hardly done anything related to them. I just stumbled across the edit wars on several linked pages and decided to see if I could stop it and get those involved to behave like adults. As they say, no good deed goes unpunished. Again, thanks for clarifying that. Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 16:47, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Bans don't work that way, they are for the topic area, eg living persons. But I doubt that the dispute you're in would raise to that level anyway. Doug Weller talk 16:51, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wyatt, Looks like you got a warning for being an effective peacemaker in that recent edit war! I find it odd that User:wallyfromdilbert has not received the same notation on his talk page. He was the main agrivator of that recent BLP issue, and ended up conceding no consensus and in error. CatCafe (talk) 23:55, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

@CatCafe: Thanks for the sentiment, though I think wallyfromdilbert has not actually conceded anything nor admitted any error. At best he might feel that the BLP infractions aren't as bad as what he first thought.Anyway, not important. At least the edit war was ended. @VQuakr: Sorry that my edit was taken as vandalism. I felt the page could benefit from an image. Perhaps I shouldn't have been so flippant in my choice of an image and the description thereof. The Russian research into mental ray guns was my inspiration but perhaps my tone should have been more encyclopaedic. Perhaps something more appropriate relating to mental illness might be suitable. Thanks for the correction. Regards Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 17:22, 31 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Wyatt

I am happy to see that you have contributed quite a lot on WikiLoop Battlefield for reviewing wikipedia edits, kudos!. I want to ask for a quick feedback:

  • As a power user who receives more barnstar than others, do you enjoy receiving the Weekly barnstar or do you prefer we lower the frequency like only awarding it per Month/Quarter?

2005 in film edit

Let's see, I spot misspelled name, investigate quoted source and discover it is misspelled there too, correctly tag to clarify the misspelling, and ONE MINUTE later someone who did not recognize the misspelling and has not had time to read the original calls me a vandal. Original research edit

Hello @Wyatt Tyrone Smith:.

You have changed "they had black friends" to "they did not only have white friends" https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Glenda_Gray&type=revision&diff=959260018&oldid=959256770

The reference you cited stated, "But what set her family apart the most was having friends and visitors who were black." https://www.fredhutch.org/en/news/center-news/2014/11/glenda-gray-the-hiv-vaccine-warrior.html

No original research is permitted on Wikipedia. I am therfore planning to revert your edit.

June 2020 edit

Your recent editing history at Jeanette Wilson shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Praxidicae (talk) 17:00, 5 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Praxidicae: The issue was resolved previously on the talk page and you contributed to it. I see no reason to re-hash what has already been decided. Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 17:04, 5 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Praxidicae was that big red bold tag above really necessary? CatCafe (talk) 13:23, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
It's a template and it got them to stop edit warring, so yes. Praxidicae (talk) 13:40, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Praxidicae well you certainly did not agree with the same tag placed on your talk page, considering you have done the same amount of editwar reverts as Wyatt Tyrone Smith. Pot-kettle=black. CatCafe (talk) 20:01, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Praxidicae you have now convinced me that placing the above warning tag for 2 reverts is "ridiculous", so as Wyatt only did 2 reverts, you're out of line placing that here. CatCafe (talk) 20:12, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Praxidicae:@CatCafe: I like the the big red stop hand. Can I keep it? Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 07:05, 7 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Altamaha river edit

Wyatt Tyrone Smith sorry, you lost me on the last revert. RS ? Gulbenk (talk) 19:59, 1 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Gulbenk: Wikipedia is not a reliable source (WP:RS). Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 20:05, 1 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Wyatt Tyrone Smith thanks for the explanation. I thought you might have intended that, but since the passage was not sourced at all, it could hardly be called unreliable. It was just not referenced. If you are not familiar, there is a tag for that: [citation needed] will alert the editor to your concern. That, I think, is far better than deleting useful information, and far better manners as well. Of course there are instances when deletion is quite appropriate, when an obvious or notorious unreliable source is cited to support a passage. *But this, clearly, was not that.* So I would suggest that you consider these points, since you will come across as far less brusque. Gulbenk (talk) 22:00, 1 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Also, if you mistakenly believed that I was citing Wikipedia as a reliable source for the passage, I was not. My edit summary was required for another reason. When taking a passage from one article, and placing it in another article, one must note the original article. Something like "Attribution: content in this article was copied from name of article on March 8, 2020". That was the (required) reasoning behind the edit summary. Gulbenk (talk) 22:15, 1 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Feedback on recent update for DoubleCheck edit

Hi Wyatt Tyrone Smith,

You have been top contributor of reviewing Wikipedia edits leveraging WikiLoop DoubleCheck (formerly WikiLoop Battlefield), we recently roll out some features, as you may notice them, most specifically the new feed mechanism and action panels. We wonder if you have any feedback because power users like you probably knows the best. Thank you!. Developer of WikiLoop DoubleCheck. xinbenlv Talk, Remember to "ping" me 22:45, 18 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Xinbenlv: I did notice the changes and they do help. The judgements are useful when you are undecided and its a good idea that they are usually hidden so that they don't influence your decisions.
The only improvement I could suggest is: If you are reviewing the Last Bad feed it can easily happen that you work your way through the items in the feed and it then starts you at the beginning of the list which means you get to review pages you've already reviewed. Perhaps it could check if have already reviewed the page before and then not show it to you.
Other than that, WikiLoop DoubleCheck is great. Good work! Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 15:32, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Eve Echoes Xian-Yue prototype.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:Eve Echoes Xian-Yue prototype.png, which you've attributed to CCP games. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Wikiacc () 00:57, 17 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Wikiacc: I obtained all of these screenshots by using the in-game screenshot key which creates an image and posts it either to Facebook or Twitter (user’s choice). That image is then freely available on my Facebook profile. No where does it state that the image cannot be reused from Facebook or twitter.no copyright mark is put on it beyond the Eve Echoes logo.
That screenshot is derived from a function within the game. I cannot provide any other proof. Would it have been more appropriate for me to claim that I had created it because I pressed the screenshot button?? Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 04:56, 17 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately, unless the game maker explicitly states otherwise, they still own the copyright (even if they allow you to post to Facebook or Twitter). A copyright mark is not required. Wikiacc () 01:42, 18 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Wikiacc: I've been in contact via email with CCP Games to try to get the required permission. I live in hope. Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 16:31, 18 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Quick note: if the permission comes through, just send it along to permissions-en@wikimedia.org as described above. If it's approved, the images will be undeleted automatically. Wikiacc () 19:56, 26 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Eve Echoes moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Eve Echoes, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Orphaned non-free image File:Eve Echoes Logo screen.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:Eve Echoes Logo screen.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:30, 13 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Colonna edit

Hallo,

you are right, but I requested a move, since the current name became ambiguous, because there is a town in the metropolitan city of rome which bears the same name of the district. Could you please to wait a couple of days before reverting? Thanks, Alex2006 (talk) 19:04, 5 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Alessandro57: Then shouldn't you rather wait for the page move before making the name change on that page, right? Regards Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 19:07, 5 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
This is also true... :-) You are right, let's wait for the move! Thanks, Alex2006 (talk) 19:11, 5 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Rosemåling edit

I am glad we have another person interested in rural Scandinavian art. In what way doesn't the Swedish Rosmålning belong in the article?--Berig (talk) 17:45, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Berig: I just ran across this page tonight. I know nothing about it but the page seems to indicate that the Swedish art form is Dalamalning and Kurbitsmalning. Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 17:49, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
The Swedish version is also called Rosemåling (Rosmålning), and used to be the only name for it. The name kurbitsmålning was coined in the 1920s. The style varies between the districts in inner Scandinavia, and so you can find traits that are more Norwegian or more Swedish. The issue here is whether the Swedish versions should be removed completely as an IP has done during the last months. I really don't think we need two articles for Ros(e)mål(n)ing, i.e. rural Scandinavian art of this type.--Berig (talk) 17:55, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message edit

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:54, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Skepticism and coordinated editing arbitration case opened edit

You recently offered a statement in a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Skepticism and coordinated editing. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Skepticism and coordinated editing/Evidence. Please note: per Arbitration Policy, ArbCom is accepting private evidence by email. If in doubt, please email and ArbCom can advise you whether evidence should be public or private. Please add your evidence by January 31, 2022, which is when the evidence phase closes. You can also contribute to the case workshop subpage, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Skepticism and coordinated editing/Workshop. For a guide to the arbitration process, see Wikipedia:Arbitration/Guide to arbitration. You may unsubscribe from further updates by removing your name from the case notification list.

January 2022 edit

Hi Wyatt Tyrone Smith! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Penny Moore (virologist) that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Kj cheetham (talk) 20:21, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Kj cheetham: Thanks. I wasn’t concentrating when I finished that edit and realized I’d marked it as minor after submitting. Too late to change then. Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 03:53, 29 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Not to worry, it's a minor thing in itself. :) -Kj cheetham (talk) 15:18, 29 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Party time, or not edit

This isn't a big deal, but with ArbCom, "party" means being an "involved party" officially listed as such, and you're not one of those. The list of involved parties is here: [1]. (The good news is that people who are not named as parties normally do not get sanctioned.) --Tryptofish (talk) 19:04, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

But AC Santa Cruz specifically named me in her recommendation to which I commented. Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 19:20, 2 February 2022 (UTC) Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 19:20, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that's true, but she does not have the authority to make you a named party on behalf of ArbCom. Here, "party" is a Wikipedia term of art, and not the dictionary definition. ArbCom themselves decide who is a "party", and they officially notify anyone who is a "party". --Tryptofish (talk) 19:55, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
If ACS does not have authority, then why is she asking for sanctions with such confidence and no one seems to be telling her she has no authority? Why does this look like a free-for-all? Why are all the people commenting seem to have equal weight? Why are people still allowed to ignore the evidence that was given and push on with sanctions that have no scope? Should I be asking for sanctions against others? Can I completely ignore the evidence phase and say whatever? I just do not understand how people can be allowed to decide on the punishment when no decision has been made. We still don't know who exactly this action is against and what the scope is at all? I assume it is against me, then it should be directed ONLY at me. Sgerbic (talk) 20:18, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
This is the Workshop phase, which is sort-of the equivalent of tossing ideas around. It's possible that the drafting Arbs will post a draft of what they are planning to write as the "real" decision, to get feedback on it, but anyone else is just making "proposals/suggestions". After the Workshop closes, the Arbs will open the Proposed Decision page, where they will make the actual decision, which requires agreement of a majority of Committee members. Anyone can comment on the Workshop, and anyone can propose stuff on the Workshop. Sometimes, the Arbs will look at a proposal and think it's a good idea and use it in the Proposed Decision, and sometimes they will revise a proposal and use that, and most of the stuff in the Workshop is set aside and not used at all, because the Arbs decide that it's useless. Nothing in the Workshop is binding on the final decision, except what Arbs themselves write. You absolutely do have the right to respond to what is being posted there, and even to make your own proposals. (And I'd encourage you to rebut things that you think are wrong. Just don't get into a tit-for-tat, and do focus your comment on giving constructive suggestions to the Arbs.) People are not supposed to ignore the Evidence phase, and proposals must be based on at least some part of the Evidence. The people who the action can be "against", as individuals, are the people in the list that I linked to, above, of "involved parties". The place where all of this is written down is at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Guide to arbitration. Skepticism and coordinated editing proposed decision posted edit

The proposed decision in the Skepticism and coordinated editing has been posted. Please review the proposed decision and draw the arbitrators' attention to any relevant material or statements. Comments may be brought to the attention of the committee on the proposed decision talk page. For a guide to the arbitration process, see Wikipedia:Arbitration/Guide to arbitration. An arbitration case regarding Skepticism and coordinated editing has now closed and the final decision is viewable at the link above. The following remedies have been enacted:

  • Rp2006 (talk · contribs) is warned against a battleground mentality and further incivility.
  • Rp2006 is indefinitely topic banned from edits related to living people associated with or of interest to scientific skepticism, broadly construed. This topic ban may be appealed after six months have elapsed and every six months thereafter.
  • A. C. Santacruz (talk · contribs) is reminded to remain collegial in editing and interacting with others.
  • Roxy the dog (talk · contribs) is warned to remain collegial in editing and interacting with others.
  • GSoW is advised that a presence on English Wikipedia, perhaps as its own WikiProject or as a task force of WikiProject Skepticism, will create more transparency and lessen some of the kinds of suspicion and conflict that preceded this case. It could also provide a place for the GSoW to get community feedback about its training which would increase its effectiveness.
  • Editors are reminded that discretionary sanctions for biographies of living people have been authorized since 2014. Editors named in this decision shall be considered aware of these discretionary sanctions under awareness criterion 1.

Rejuvenate WikiProject Skepticism edit

Hello - my name is Susan Gerbic (Sgerbic) and I'm writing to you because at some point you joined Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism. This might have been months ago - or even years ago. With the best of intentions the project was created years ago, and sadly like many WikiProjects has started to go dormant. A group of us are attempting to revitalize the Skepticism project, already we have begun to clean up the main page and I've just redone the participant page. No one is in charge of this project, it is member directed, which might have been the reason it almost went dormant. We are attempting to bring back conversations on the talk page and have two subprojects as well, in the hopes that it might spark involvement and a way of getting to know each other better. One was created several years ago but is very well organized and a lot of progress was made, Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skeptical organisations in Europe. The other I created a couple weeks ago, it is very simple and has a silly name Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skepticism Stub Sub-Project Project (SSSPP). This sub-project runs from March 1 to June 1, 2022. We are attempting to rewrite skepticism stubs and add them to this list. As you can see we have already made progress.

The reason I'm writing to you now is because we would love to have you come back to the project and become involved, either by working on one of the sub-projects, proposing your own (and managing it), or just hanging out on the talk page getting to know the other editors and maybe donate some of your wisdom to some of the conversations. As I said, no one is in charge, so if you have something in mind you would like to see done, please suggest it on the talk page and hopefully others will agree. Please add the project to your watchlist, update your personal user page showing you are a proud member of WikiProject Skepticism. And DIVE in, this is what the work list looks like [2] frightening at first glance, but we have already started chipping away at it.

The Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Participants page has gone though a giant change - you may want to update your information. And of course if this project no longer interests you, please remove your name from the participant list, we would hate to see you go, but completely understand.

Thank you for your time, I hope to edit with you in the future.Sgerbic (talk) 07:38, 17 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Grigori Grabovoi with PRK-1U machine.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:Grigori Grabovoi with PRK-1U machine.png.

Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:20, 12 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

The page was vandalised. The image is used on Grigori Grabovoi. Thanks for your over-zealous response, if not for it I wouldn't have known about the vandalism. Wyatt Tyrone Smith (talk) 14:07, 13 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Grigori Grabovoi with PRK-1U machine.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:Grigori Grabovoi with PRK-1U machine.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:12, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Translation edit

Hello! Strange request here, but an article about me and my Wikipedia work has been promoted to Good article status at English Wikipedia and nominated for similar status at Spanish Wikipedia. I'm curious if you have any interest in translating the entry for Afrikaans Wikipedia?

Figured I'd ask since your profile suggests you do translation work. Either way, happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:31, 8 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
