Destub question

edit

Plan on destubbing this, however Algeria has it as a start class and spaceflight has it as a stub. I concur that its a stub, wanted to make sure you agreed it was a stub before I worked on it. Kees08 (talk) 07:28, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Yes, that's a stub Kees08, well under 1500 char.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:27, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Yikes, we'll need another Destubathon just for those haha!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:52, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Dear Dr., I hope you're well. I see you're focussing on the Challenges at the present but, if you fancy a change, HH Asquith is up for FAC. Tim, Wehwalt and I worked it up before Tim sadly retired. It's a long read but quite interesting, I think. All the very best. KJP1 (talk) 12:08, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi KJP1 Yes it looks impeccably well researched, in fact it comes close to Frank Sinatra in citations, they're definitely among the articles with the highest number of sources (550+) on the site. I am pretty busy at the moment but I'll try to find some time this coming week to give it a read! Excellent work and a great shame that Tim is no longer editing here.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:54, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Yes, I think it is pretty well-researched. But it's also rather long! Nevertheless, if you have time to give it a once-over, that would be much appreciated. Tim's loss was indeed very sad, as were the losses of Schrocat and Cassianto. Those infobox wars were so unproductive. KJP1 (talk) 13:54, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
Yes it's 137 kb of readable prose in looking which is pretty enormous. People will definitely want it shortened considerably for FA.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:22, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

10,000 question

edit

Hey, I'm still a bit fuzzy on what qualifies for inclusion and what doesn't. Would something like this merit an entry? It's mostly cleanup with a wee bit of new info added (and some overly verbose parts removed), and I see that the goal is "not to document every minor edit", but I thought I'd check first. I wouldn't want to dilute a what mostly is a content initiative with my neverending maintenance crap. Great idea, those challenges, by the way! Thanks for your organizational efforts; hopefully the initiative is a success (or at least a productive endeavor). Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); November 7, 2016; 14:33 (UTC)

@Ezhiki: Thanks. The idea is mainly towards quality improvements and quality new articles. Despite this, some people are still adding short stubs to the challenges but I appreciate their efforts all the same so won't get in the way of it. But to really get us quality existing article improvements we need contests held throughout the year covering the entire encyclopedia to motivate more people to focus on existing quality, and not just create new entries. Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon is enormously productive and no reason why something like that couldn't benefit Russia or any country in Europe or worldwide too. If it's minor tweaking I wouldn't add it, but if you've added say a paragraph of sourced readable prose/cleaned up sourcing etc then it's fine. The recent Russian article you started to the challenge is fine and welcome!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:51, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Appreciate the clarification; thanks! I'm just getting back into my normal editing mode after an enormous slump (...long story), so I'll make sure to keep an eye on what else I can do for the challenges (both Europe and Asia). Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); November 7, 2016; 15:00 (UTC)

The {{WPEUR10k}} template is the only one in the WikiProject Europe 10,000 Challenge category. Isn't the intent of that category to track all articles with the WPEUR10k banner on the talk page? (I can fix it, but I don't know if that's perhaps done deliberately; other banners are probably set up the same way, too).—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); November 7, 2016; 19:23 (UTC)

I don't mind, but from my perspective talk page tagging isn't really essential for this, we know what we improved when looking at the list which counts! BTW if you can think of any more editors from various Euro countries who might contribute can you let them know and invite them?♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:31, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Oh, it's up to you, of course. I just wasn't sure what the purpose of having a banner would be if not to track progress? Especially when an empty category for that is already in place?
As for the editors, if I think of someone, I'll let them know, but it seems Ser Amantio di Nicolao has already done a pretty thorough job sending invites!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); November 7, 2016; 20:06 (UTC)

Redirects

edit

I have redirected African ground thrush to Geokichla, I have not destubbed it but I don't think it should be counted as an African stub anymore, it was an Orphan page anyway as all the links were to the wrong genus. Did I do the right thing?Quetzal1964 17:14, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

@Quetzal1964: Yes, remove it from the stub list as it's a redirect.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:15, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Africa 10,000 question

edit

Hi, I've got a quick question about the current competition. I was going for the award for the DRC but the other major contributor to the topic seems to have the ability of producing new de-stubbed articles at an unbelievable rate. Obviously I appreciate that destubbing as many articles as possible is the aim of the project, but I note that a great deal of this users de-stubbed articles (which are all fish of the same group) share significant amount of content (as in 70-80% of the prose is identical). Frankly, there's not much point in anyone destubbing another article (even one from the core list) if the same amount of time can see this user destub 10 using copy-paste. I note this is happening for several country entries now. I think there is an editorial judgment on the level of originality needed for a destubbed article to count, otherwise the competition will just not meet its goals. —Brigade Piron (talk) 21:19, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

@Brigade Piron: Hi, I agree. I hadn't noticed that 70-80% of the prose was identical, but I did start to notice similarities in names and some of the text. I agree that each article ought to have original prose. But I don't want to deter Neil is it? from contributing. They're still destubs all the same. I also don't want you to give up as you're doing a fantastic job!! I suggest you ping him in on this and we can sort something out.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:36, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Dr. Blofeld, thank you for your reply. I think this must be worth considering when outlining the rules for future 10,000 competitions. I'm also aware that I'm sounding a bit like a sore looser here but I am honestly thinking of the aim of the project which, as I understand it, is to work on core stubs and others which are related to systematic bias. As you suggest, I'm pinging Neil916 in this discussion to get his/her comments. —Brigade Piron (talk) 22:34, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

The main aim is reducing the 37,000 odd stubs, so all destubs welcome! The core ones obviously more important destubs though. There's some really embarrassing stubs for massive regions and ethnic groups still!♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:46, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, I responded on my talk page. Neil916 (Talk) 22:47, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
Doc, I finally found a person who hit almost every one of the bells and whistles for editathons this month. Woman, cookbook writer, of Asian heritage, from South Africa. Now the only problem is that I have no idea how/or if she should be added to your Africa project. It's Faldela Williams. If you want to just add her do it. If she's ineligible that's okay too. If you want me to do it, tell me where. SusunW (talk) 00:36, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

Cheers SusunW added her to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon list! Your article contributes 0.2% towards the 500 African women goal, every one counts!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:09, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks Doc! SusunW (talk) 18:20, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

A template for the challenge

edit

Hi, do you think that the following template Wikipedia:WikiProject Turkey/The 1,000 Challenge may be encouraging for the Turkey challenge ? Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 07:11, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Sure, why not? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:58, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

In the context: I create most articles about European topics anyway, - should I still put them under some Challenge label, even if I only challenged myself? - Exception: Hyo-Won Woo inspired by Asian month, and only when looking closer I found out: a woman. Had admired her Gloria for 7 years without knowing that! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:23, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

It's up to you Gerda! But Germany could benefit from destubbing and improvements, not just new entries like anywhere on here!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:32, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

I did a bit for the Theodor Wolff Prize because I linked to it, and could do more, but really have "my own" program right now, and every article "bears" four new red links, - if I'd take over all recipients of the prize, even hundreds. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:11, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for today's Mughal-e-Azam! - From Portugal, erratic line ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:32, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
I added the new (partly translated) articles related to Germany. On St. Cecilia's day ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:36, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

50,000 challenge: Nevada

edit

Dr. Blofeld:I saw you signed up for Nevada at the 5k challenge and wanted to ask your advice. I have co-created Draft:Las Vegas EDM, but it didn't fare well at AfC review. The other editor was a record label intern and did most of the Starkillers related stuff, I did the Las Vegas and EDC background. Do you think there is a path to articlehood for this? - Brianhe (talk) 15:34, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Brianhe, it looks a legitimate article to me, Vegas is one of the music capitals of the world now so very relevant. It looks well sourced and viable to me but haven't read it through!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:52, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Wow, thanks for the quick reply. So if you read it through, please do drop me another note. I'd love to do the necessary to tote it up in the challenge. - Brianhe (talk) 16:00, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Perhaps Fram has the time to read it and comment ;-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:03, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Dominykas Kulakovskis requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. US 50,000

edit

I guess I've been living in a bubble since November 1st, but it just dawned on me to add the new articles I've created since then into the US challenge, so I did. Some are stubby, but I added them anyway. Some of the bios I've written in this period are about people born in a foreign country, but who lived and worked in the US, e.g. Mary Mathews Adams, Guy Maxwell, Austin Carroll, Mary Blanche O'Sullivan; I didn't add them as maybe the place of birth would make them ineligible. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:26, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

@Rosiestep: Sure, feel free to add them, I haven't been monitoring progress much on the US one. The Africa Destubathon could certainly use some women bios to reach 500 by the 27th though!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:08, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Rosie certainly seems to have returned to full steam ahead. 28 new women's biographies since 3 November averages out at more than two a day (not to mention those on men). Pity you haven't yet developed an Irish challenge for those born in Ireland - but I suppose it will be coming soon.--Ipigott (talk) 08:03, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

WP:TADE

edit

Howdy, Dr. Blofeld. I am Redolta, a competitor in The Africa Destubathon for South Sudan, and I have a question. I noticed the user Wasabi, the, one included seven entries in their list for South Sudan, and none of the seven was approved you. Since then, he (or she) hasn't edited those articles since. So my question is, can I "branch off" the user's work they "abandoned"? I am asking this before I go ahead and do it, because I don't want to sabotage Wasabi's work so I gain advantage, and plus that he didn't respond by the set time limit. Here are 3 options that could work:

  1. Hand over the rights for me to edit and earn the points, but I must give credit to Wasabi.
  2. Hand over the rights for me to edit, but I and Wasabi split even the points so I don't sabotage Wasabi's work and I don't get full credit (without consent).
  3. Hand over no rights at all for me to edit or earn points.

If I do not get a response by the end of the competition, then it would be petty sad not to see a timely response. Thanks, good luck for you in WP:TAD, and have a nice day. Redolta📱 Contribs 03:15, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

@Redolta: I think I'm usually pretty prompt with my responses! Yes, if you source all of his articles and sort them all out I'll credit you for each entry and then credit him as well. that OK?.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:27, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: Ok, that'll work out. Thanks for the notification! Also, can you check my three entries? Anyways, thanks! :) Redolta📱 Contribs 05:54, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Summarizing list of Maureen O'Hara filmography

edit

I don't know why the selected filmography is removed from the article. Yes, there is already Maureen O'Hara filmography. However, by removing the selected filmography, we are forcing readers to read the whole article about O'Hara's career or go to the filmography. Most readers of the parent article don't visit the filmography page. --George Ho (talk) 12:07, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

Took you a long time to notice :-) I've seen most of her films that's why and there's many more I would probably think worth mentioning. People can read the lede to find her most notable films anyway.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:26, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

Re-listing her films into the "Selected filmography" isn't that pointless. Some readers might overlook or skip the lead and search her filmography section instead. --George Ho (talk) 19:37, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

Well was it so important that it made any real difficulty for you on wikipedia in the many months which have passed since I removed it?♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:41, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

I didn't notice it until now. Better yet, I didn't re-read the article since. WP:LISTPURP says that lists may exist for information, navigation, and development. Wait... was the list the embedded list? Either way, I found MOS:APPENDIX and MOS:WORKS#Filmography, though neither apparently addresses redundancy. George Ho (talk) 19:55, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

question about the africa destubathon

edit

I've been meaning to come back to some editing on Africa and recently became a late entrant in the destubathon, probably not very serious, competitively.... But since a lot of the articles listed as core correspond to some of my previous editing in African topics, and further confirm my previous observation that articles about the politics and government of certain countries were laughably incomplete -- multiple civil wars described in a single sentence as "unrest", for example -- I might keep a score, and if I do I will have questions.

  • a lot of these core stub articles are not in fact stubs to begin with (let's say Energy in Angola) so I'd like to make sure I understand the rule: If it's on the list it counts as long as the article has substantial improvement from where I picked it up? Do I have to get the article promoted or can I just make it eligible? Move it significantly in that direction? Just wondering as I am not very familiar with the assessment process.
  • women's bios - Khadija Sharife is not on the list and her article is start-class now, but she has done really stellar and important journalism in the area of government corruption, so a lot more could be said. I take it she would count if I expanded on her achievements? She's the only such woman that comes to mind at the moment but there are probably others not on the list; would just like that clarified. Thanks for any brainpower you apply to these questions ;) ~~

Energy in Angola is still classed as a stub on tlak page and needs some cleanup, so yes, clean it up, upgrade to start class and you can claim it. For women we will accept articles classified as stubs or new entries for the contest. If it's a start class article alreayd and you clean it up, you can add it to the main list on the Destubathon page but you won't get contest number credits for it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:06, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

Since it's the 27th and you've declared victory I am going to stop submitting articles and keep editing, which was my primary focus. I'm still going to be picking topics from your core stub lists in West Africa, if that makes you feel better -- I saw you were a little disappointed in the turnout there. I *would* like to see the Sara Forbes Bonetta article assessed and further promoted as that is an amazing story -- although probably a bit more nuanced than currently presented if I dig deeper. Anyway, please finish the assessment on that when you have time, and know that your contest deflected me back onto west Africa, even if most of what I did/am doing didn't get entered because it's better but still not good. (I usually concentrate on West Africa because a lot of the sources are in French and I am one of the wikipedians that can hang with that...) Anyway, cheers, nice to meet you. Elinruby (talk) 18:50, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

I haven't "declared victory", there's still just under 4 hours left. If you're on here this evening it would still be great to see some more articles ;-) I didn't say I was disappointed in the general turnout though it would have been good if all 150 odd people signed up had actually contributed one article. I was disappointed with the African turnout, as there are a number of editors from Africa who have actively edited wikipedia in the last four or five months I know of who didn't contribute, and if you consider Africa has a population of 1.1 billion, imagine what we could do with a few hundred African editors trained in wikipedia editing and contributing. Thankyou for your work anyway!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:20, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

At your suggestion, I have been trying to put some order into the redlinks from BBC 100 Women by listing them here by continent and country. Stereotypes on ethnic-groups

edit

Hi, there has been extensive discussion on Oromo people talk page in regards to adding stereotypes (that are usually seen in propaganda leaflets to provoke ethnic violence) associated with ethnic-groups. The issue started on 18 NOV when Ms Sarah Welch added disputed contents as per WP:TAD initiative. I have argued with her as to the importance of information added as per WP:ONUS and we couldnot be able to reach consensus. Added stereotypes include 'pagan', 'savage', 'inferior', 'enemy', 'bad people', 'heathen', 'ready to kill', 'brutal' and her reasoning for adding them is to explain the reason for name change in which non of her sources precisely said the old name was changed because of these but most likely (while still non of the sources also did precisely mentioned it) it was changed because that is not how they identify themselves. People have the right to change their names for whatever reason but what is the importance of adding those stereotypes that were also associated with African ethnic-groups name in the very past whom still continued to refer themselves by their ethnic name inspite of it being associated with those kind of stereotypes.[1][2][3][4][5] Simply put disputed content is somehow similar to the topic should we add the phrase: "Muslims view Americans as heathen or infidel people"[6] on United States or American people or adding "White South Africans or Americans used to view Zulus or muslims with those kind of stereotypes" on Zulu and Muslim people Wikipedia article by quoting a Reliable source? I mean yes it is true there are some muslim Americans who have these kind of view but should we add it anyways?

In addition to the stereotype, the second issue I have with her is in regards to contradicting sources used in which one source defined the old name of the ethnic-group as a name of a river (with more different definitions applied by Arabs & Muslims) while the other source translated the old name with a stereotype by quoting another source which is published in a printing organisation that is not found in google web result, and this source again quoted another source that is not notable. Could you please give your opinion on these issues. Thank you — EthiopianHabesha (talk) 11:52, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

@EthiopianHabesha: In that long submission, you don't mention even once "Galla" – the name of the Oromo people in literature before 1893, very common name before 1970; nor that Doug Weller has commented on the article's talk page in favor of keeping the Galla-Oromo discussion. Nor do you mention that you have been advised WP:TAD is not the right venue for this, and that you try WP:RSN or WP:ANI. But here you are. @Dr. Blofeld: Feel free to join in or ignore this. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 12:07, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

All I'll say is that I greatly appreciate the effort Sarah made to expand it and I strongly doubt she would stereotype or convey something which wans't in the sources.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:30, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Ms Sarah Welch, issue is not to keep or remove the Galla-Oromo discussion and it has got to do with only two issues 1)are those kind of stereotypes (that might provoke ethnic violence) appropriate to include in any wikipedia articles including the Oromo article even if they are verifiable & RS? 2) which source is appropriate to define the term 'Galla' the journal or Hassan? Hassan did not see the dictionary himself when he supposed to. If the Amharic dictionary is very notable and widely circulated within the Ethiopain society then why not grab the book from a nearby shop/library like you find Oxford dictionary everywhere and check & proof himself instead of quoting another source printed in a printing organisation in which it's address is unknown? Simply those are my issues and I don't know why you always try to manipulate them instead of engaging with them so that we reach consensus as per WP:ONUS? Ms Sarah, with respect I don't think these issues are very complex to solve with editors who complies with WP:GOODFAITH, WP:ADVOCACY, WP:ONUS and WP:DUE. Anyways, will take this issue to WP:RSN or WP:ANI as per Doug Weller recommendation. — EthiopianHabesha (talk) 09:44, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

@EthiopianHabesha: If you'd have participated in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon you could have written the article yourself so Sarah wouldn't have had to. We needed your help during it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:01, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

Wikitravel

edit

Just an idea here, but I recently got a copy of the first edition of the Rough Guide to Tanzania and am going through it to generate a list of the topics it covers, similar to the content at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/Prospectus. Right now, I am about half-way through the book. A lot of that content might not be relevant here, but might be acceptable over at wikitravel. Maybe one thing which might be doable is to have someone, like me, you, or anyone else with a specific interest in a specific region, to do the same with one or more countries or major cities and use the list of topics covered to develop both sites' material regarding those topics. John Carter (talk) 18:03, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Not sure what content it is. I'm due a long break from here soon though ;-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:08, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Some newer and/or smaller settlements might not have much "encyclopedic" material, beyond maybe "town lies here" type stuff, but might have hostels or eateries or really small churches or schools or similar which would be worthy of inclusion there, maybe in a separate article on that settlement. And, if you are going away for a while here, one other thing which might be particularly useful in some cases is finding PD reference works, like the US State Department country guides, and putting them up at commons or maybe wikisource. Maybe getting some sort of collaborative effort in that regard for proofreading PD texts might be useful, particularly if that text could then be imported here. John Carter (talk) 18:21, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
Oh, and we definitely need to have the "attenzione prostitute" road sign here discussed somewhere around the site. There even seem to be t-shirts with the sign on them. John Carter (talk) 18:51, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on International Dateline Hotel requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Spanish monasteries

edit

For the past few years, you and I have worked on Spanish monasteries in December, and I'm back at it. No worries if you're busy with other things -you certainly deserve a break- but letting you know the tradition lives on. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:00, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

Haha it's a good tradition. Can't promise much as I'm on a break still but I'll see what you've been up to :-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:33, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

(See section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
  • It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. • Also, thanks for all of your work on the 10,000 Challenges. I know that this level of coordination takes time and energy. Hey, have you ever considered running for adminship? North America1000 15:37, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
That would be several steps back from what I've been doing wouldn't it? :-) To go from running highly tuned contests which bring in thousands of articles to a mop and bucket and arguing over civility at ANI! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:46, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Editor of the Week seeking nominations (and a new facilitator)

edit

The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.

The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?

Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today!

In addition, the WikiProject is seeking a new facilitator/coordinator to handle the logistics of the award. Please contact L235 if you are interested in helping with the logistics of running the award in any capacity. Remove your name from here to unsubscribe from further EotW-related messages. Thanks, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 05:19, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Esta es mi Argentina

edit

The article Esta es mi Argentina has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of notability

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Peter Rehse (talk) 10:47, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

I am planning on taking to FAC, but I've opened a PR before that. Do you have the time/interest to review it? Because it's been open for too long, and it must be closed before the FAC can begin. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:08, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

Since you are interested in one or many of the contests and competitions that are hosted on Wikipedia (and since you host many of these yourself), I am here to share an idea to promote these. I have started refabricating the Wikipedia:Contests page to make it a common place to reach all the contests and challenges and then wish to push it ahead to be displayed on main page under "Other areas of Wikipedia". Another advantage of this would be to attract newbies as I have observed that quite a large number newbies signup in our various contests like WikiCup or 10000 Challenge series. Its another story that they don't continue or even actually participate; but maybe we will keep the Editor Retention out of it for now and focus on the advantage of newer editors coming in.
I know that Wikimedia Commons gave a permanent place to "Photo challenge" on their main page on top right and although I do not know who useful it has been, I think it should be given a try on en wiki too. I would need opinions and help of editors interested in this (you and your talk page stalkers are welcome). Please feel free to spread the word. Thanks. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 05:43, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

@Dharmadhyaksha: I did have plans for developing it, but not quite in the way you have.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:36, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
