From 2002 to 2007 he was a research scientist studying protein structure at the RIKEN, Harima Institute located at the SPring-8 synchrotron facility near Himeji, Hyogo, Japan. He lived in the town of Aioi. During that time he was Dojocho of Himeji Shodokan Aikido.

Until recently he was a senior manager at a Pharmaceutical Research company in Shanghai, China.

He now does similar work near Cambridge and lives in London, England.

Contributions to Wikipedia have included expansion and fixes to aikido related articles and martial arts in general.
