Wikipedia:Meetup/Wellington/Playmarket Edit-A-Thon

What's it about? edit

This edit-a-thon has a focus on increasing the presence of NZ playwrights on Wikipedia and is hosted by Playmarket. New Zealand Theatre is in general lacking information in Wikipedia, and this is one way to address that.

When and where edit

Participants in the on-line Playmarket NZ edit-a-thon, 15 Aug 2020

This event was rescheduled from May 2020 due to COVID-19. After being COVID-free for 100 days, New Zealand was placed back into Level 2/Level 3 status on Wednesday 12 August. Level 2 in Wellington requires social distancing, so it's not possible for all participants to work at the Playmarket offices. This is the new schedule:

  • Saturday, 15 August
  • 11:00 am NZST: Introduction online at Whereby. Participants will choose articles to work on, and be briefed on resources available and communication during the day.
  • 1:00 pm: Touch Base online at Whereby. Share what you've been working on, get help, and collaborate.
  • 3:00 pm: Wrap Up online at Whereby. Summary of what's been achieved, posting list to this project page, problem solving and wrapping up.
  • Lisa Maule User:Pakoire and Playmarket's Murray Lynch will be present at the Playmarket Wellington office, Level 1 35-38 Cambridge Terrace (above Domino's) from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, scanning and photographing resources to be uploaded or shared with editors. Email them with your information needs (details in Introduction).
  • This workshop will be following "friendly space" guidelines; check them out. Harassment and disruption won't be tolerated, online or offline.

Make sure that every Wikipedia article you work on is in New Zealand English, and uses D/M/Y dates. Here's the code:

  • {{Use dmy dates|date=August 2020}}
  • {{en-NZ|date=August 2020}}

Resources edit

Link to NZ Theatre references - mostly books - with comments about how they are useful. Contains info to copy and paste into citations as required. Perhaps there are copies in some Wellington libraries (Surprisingly few! – MRD)

Outcomes edit

Future work edit

Many New Zealand literary awards, residences and grants do not have Wikidata items let alone a Wikipedia page. These are important as they help establish notability of living playwrights. It might be worth focusing on this subject should there be another opportunity to undertake an editathon. Ambrosia10 (talk)

Acknowledgements edit

Many thanks to Playmarket for hosting the event and providing access to their fantastic resources on all things NZ playwrights. And also thanks to the Wellington Wikipedia Meetup group for supporting.
