Agenda and Notes from Meeting edit

1. Introduction to meet up by organisers (if there are any newbies joining us) edit

2. Round table for participants to say what you’re working on edit

  • Avocadobabygirl (talk) is prepping a new Mix n Match dataset of Te Papa agents. Also working on getting the Tala Wiki group in to use the museum's resources (and hopefully staff) for an edit-a-thon about Pasifika artists, and investigating matching Kōtuia directory data up to Wikidata. Talking with Auckland Museum folk with strategy focus etc. Talking to Mark Beatty who does National Library headshots - make requests for photographs of NZ writers etc as he's got heaps of them for the library. Very keen for them to be used. What's a good process. Picking and choosing ones that Chocmilk03 might be able to use.
  • Marshelec helped with responses to the GA review of Matiu / Somes Island. Also led the GA reviews of Serpent (instrument) and Soprano trombone (all three articles have now passed). Also worked in WP:AFC. Helped improve and then accepted HIT Lab NZ, Richard Waugh (writer), and Luke Bird. Worked on several articles related to the weekly RNZ programme Critter of the Week, and helped a new editor to create and publish a bio about the artist Walter Armiger Bowring. Wellington harbour article improvements including Cook's visit. Chip in and help get Matiu / Somes Island over the line. Geology friend has come back with info and citations! Three articles across the line in the last month. Working on Critter of the Week articles.
Also supported an Australian editor with work on Draft:Forestry Building, Hobart. Made major improvements to Haast, New Zealand. Also prepared Draft:Simon Keller about a professor and head of department at Victoria University. Helped with some preparatory work for the forthcoming West Coast Wikipedian at Large project being led by Giantflightlessbirds. Also working with Wainuiomartian on further improvements to articles about Wellington Harbour and the port. Also doing admin work for WANZ.
  • Ambrosia10 - had meeting with Auckland museum folk this week notes can be found here, is working on Women Genera project, Hidden Figures CURE Wikidata module, Wikidata WikiProject Research expeditions, a presentation to the Entomology Collections Network annual conference, and a keynote to the Australian Citizen Science conference. Will be having a meeting with Wellington University club to discuss editing.
  • Einebillion (talk) has been settling back in after attending Wikimania and a week's holiday in Singapore. Has been doing a little bit of Alexander Turnbull Library mix'n'match and committee work.
  • Stitchbird2 (talk) is recovering from an amazing Wikimania Singapore 2023. Co-presented a talk at Wikimania with Avocadobabygirl, wrote up my conference notes on this page https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2023_WANZ, and made over 200 iNat observations whilst in Singapore (all photos CC BY of course). Need to write up our report for WANZ (who funded Lucy and I go to to Wikimania) & also Te Papa (who supported this as a work trip).
  • Noracrentiss watched Wikimania Pasifika Group performance remotely and could see other New Zealanders in the audience! Also asked a copyright question which Einebillion answered. Website: PublicArt.NZ - goal is a research initiative. Discussed art, copyright and conceptual art etc. Great goal but worried about website infringing copyright by taking photos of art. Suggested we invite website researcher to the next meeting - action point for Einebillion. Noracrentiss wants help with NZ thesis work and will contact DrThneed. HAs done some Mix'n'Match on Turnbull names
  • Quilt Phase in Rarotonga, took photos and added them to Wikicommons. Country celebrating 200 yr anniversary of the arrival of Christianity to the islands - took photos of newly handsome churches. Also wanted to find a mugshot of Donald Trump - he managed to find the least worst image of the mugshot - to upload to Wikipedia to illustrate the article about the image - but also discussions around this exception.
  • B'art homme - has been away but has been improving "art intervention" article and wants to find some geographical examples. Also got part way through a draft about the arts coop. Mentions Shelley Bay news, has been involved arts collective in Shelley Bay is good.
  • Jon - good article reviews and also working on musical instruments articles. Got through the good article review for the Matiu / Somes Island review. Also had some of his articles reviewed and up to good article statements. Has disagreement with another editor piccolo clarinet - citation.
  • Stitchbird2 - discussed Wikimania 2023 and the effect on her editing. Lots of ideas! Co presented with Lucy, Einebillion created a meta page - see link on this page. She didn't get sick and had a day to herself - 200 observations. Wikidata Biodiversity Project Manoj did heaps of images.
  • Wainuiomartian - discussed with Wellington Regional Council getting images. Wellington harbour board article. Another article she's playing with - notable ship visits to Wellington - listing famous ships etc. Write to stuff to promote a good article status.
  • Einebillion - Attended Wikimania 2023, didn't have to present anything. A lot of side conversations about wiki GLAM area. Tools available for GLAM institutions to measure impact when contributing to wikiverse, those tools aren't supported by Wikimedia Foundation instead supported by individuals. Tools are broken, pull back at least the MET and might also be Smithsonian. Committee type roles worth going to Wikimania, GLAM/wiki folk dying for these impact statements. All sat in corridor, Andrew Lih - Smithsonian Wikimedian at Large is behind this. Raised with one of the board members - Rosie Stephenson-Goodnight. Got to find a way what they want to support. Business analysis etc. Question isn't whether or not they are supporting this, do they want to prioritise that? Resourcing areas - low or non existent, Africa, Pacifica etc - non western diaspora. Core strategic focus if you look at your annual plan. GLAM work is very western how are we going to support this. Andrew leading it. Really insightful from strategy, diversity people, wikiverse, how different people contribute, hackathon, who's doing what. Polish Wikisource is the biggest Wikisource. Got to talk to the folk who are doing the next Wikimania, Poland. Free paid trip to Krakow to go to Wikimania. Scholarship applications in October - NZers fine for visas. Mix-n-match Alexander Turnbull library. Admin person organised. Not yet signed contract. Doing induction on Tuesday. Starting work next week!

3. Progress on Action Points and future events edit

Don't forget to add your program to the Campaign Dashboard. The Dashboard is a key tracking tool for reporting back to Wikimedia Foundation and will help us ensure that we get funding in future years. If you are unsure how to add programs to the Campaign dashboard contact: Ambrosia10 (talk) on her talk page.
  • New Zealand Wikidata Thesis Project aims to get New Zealand dissertations into Wikidata. Project Page, Project Dashboard. There is a google spreadsheet of theses authors with Wikipedia pages who need their theses adding to their page if folk want to work on this during #1Lib1Ref. There is also a video on how to add thesis to people's pages. This work is ongoing and could use more editors to help out.
Project Contacts: DrThneed, Giantflightlessbirds and Ambrosia10
