Meetup Code of Conduct and Anonymity when Meeting Via Video Conference

All attendees are expected to understand and abide by the Draft Universal Code of Conduct for the Wikimedia Movement.

This video conferencing meetup is a replacement for an in-person meetup. While attending and remaining anonymous is supported by the group, lurking is not supported and will be actively discouraged. All attendees are expected to use their User name as an identifier on the video conference call and to introduce themselves and their interest in joining the call on the chat channel of the call as a minimum. Participation using video and / or voice in addition to Chat is encouraged but not required.

Some members of the group have been the target of cyber bullying in the past and these measures are intended to support creating a safe space for collaboration.

If a new attendee joins the group with video and voice disabled, they will be encouraged to participate by the facilitator, using this script:

Welcome new attendee. This group respects your right to remain anonymous. This group has a policy of discouraging lurking as it makes some of us uncomfortable. If you are happy to introduce yourself over voice, please let us know what you've been working on and if you need help with any editing issues.

If you're not comfortable updating the group by voice, then that's okay. You have the option of introducing yourself and adding your user page link into the chat feature. The chat is deleted once the video conference finishes.

If you want to remain completely anonymous and not chat, then this meetup is not for you. We make comprehensive and extensive notes of the meetup that will be included in the meetup page afterwards. That's the best way to catch up with what this meetup has been doing if you don't want to contribute during the video call.

If you're not sure how to use the chat feature you can access it by clicking on the icon that looks like a speech bubble in the bottom left corner.

If, after an appropriate length of time, the new attendee does not participate by video, voice, or chat, the facilitator of the group will remove the attendee from the video call.

If the new attendee persists in logging in, the group will discuss abandoning the meet up.

Chat for sharing pastes, URLs and so on

The Jitsi video conferencing platform has a chat feature. This is used to share URLs and other commentary while the discussions are occurring. The facilitators may take a copy to help with writing up outcomes from the meeting on the meeting Wikipedia page. Any copies will be deleted once outcomes and notes are completed.

Draft constitution has been confirmed as final version. Need to get signatures and attendees to grab to signature. Formally approved and we get incorporated society. Then we get folk to join and then nominate officers etc. Make progress and then get funding to help run it.

Wiki-Con Weekends in 2022 and Events

• Discussion about the WikiCon Wellington - encourage the organising committee to propose options for this conference. Consider the current state of COVID in Wellington and whether it is feasible to hold an in person event. If the situation is still uncertain consider holding an online event even though the expressed preference of attendees is an in person event. If an "online" event Ambrosia10 suggests considering an "upskilling established editors" event with presentations. Ambrosia10 could possibly invite more international editors to present? Discussion amongst the group as to other preferences.

Virtual conference Wellington conference/NZ conference - Lisa, Mike, Mary and Marty. Mike raised about Parliamentary folk and Lisa wants ccing in.

• Planning for Aotearoa New Zealand scheduled events for 2022. It has been suggested in the December meeting that the group think about events that may be of interest and can be planned for during 2022. We are already in the process of making plans for #1Lib1Ref from mid May until June (see this document and also International Women's Day Tuesday 8 March 2022. Other suggestions for themes around events include Library Week, Conservation Week, International Volunteers Day. Other suggestions are encouraged and will be discussed. Ambrosia10 suggests aiming for an event a month? Be aware #1Lib1Ref is held twice yearly and the dates for the first event this year is January 15th to February 5th - this might be an easy "ready made" event to kick off with? The collaboration with the Australian Wikimedia editors is for the second #1Lib1Ref in the year.

Discussion in group about this. Examples suggested 24hr editathon for Ada Lovelace Day, WikiSource Women's History Month for Wikisource, Winter Olympics, Matariki Event, Library Week. We should think about the focus of the work - is it to onboard folk or to focus on content. Suggested that we run a four week course like the Art & fem. event by the State Library of Queensland. Lisa said she's getting funded by the Pacific Arts team at Creative New Zealand (CNZ) to train folk as part of a CNZ Wikipedian in Residence pilot programme. Lisa is looking for another Pacific heritage resident to be part of this programme. Also will follow up on an invitation to do a Wikipedia introduction session / workshop at the next national Māori theatre hui and there was an Asian New Zealand musician group interested as well.

Grants available for activities which contribute to Wikimedia movement strategy initiatives

Discussion amongst the group re this. Heather encouraging folk to apply for funds if it falls within the criteria. Marshall has brought up an example as he was helping a student and has suggested we reach out to tertiary institutions and that there is money available to create a training course. Mike says at least 2 Uni courses Massey & Lincoln using Wikipedia writing for students. It is an avenue for someone to work with tertiary students and lecturers. Discussion with Heather, Lisa, Paul, Marshall, Mary, Margaret and Mike - add to list of things to do for the year and further discussion/organisation needed. Māori Wikipedia - pitch to Māori studies programmes - an option?

Talked about Omicron, Mike talking about his in person meetup in Barrytown at Waitangi weekend. Support from local library system etc. if folk want to attend.

Heather - editing on women business owners. Women in Business Month for Women in Red. Expanded Keri Hulme's article and nominated it for the main page of WP under "recent deaths" and it reached 20,000 readers in a couple of days. Continuing to keep public facebook page populated with content - feel free to message the page with any suggestions for content e.g. new articles, events or people in the news which have articles etc

Marty- got his local suburb page to good article - Māngere Bridge article, Also working on his first DYK article, Auckland engineering pages.

David - Wikisource editing. A few Wikidata edits - figuring out editions of books.

Margaret - Australian Faunal director - 99of9 made a mix and match for it 120,000 items - AFD couldn't be accessed 2/3 days. Slow to update. Working on unmatched. Slow to update - only 44,000 to go. Aim to measure what we don't have for articles. The ID occurs in taxon box you know animal has been found in Australia.

Andrew - images for Wikisource. Vol 20 of the transactions. Fixing categorisation as he goes.

Paul - Talking to Axel mentioned Golden Bay - Abel Tasman monument didn't have page. Got it up to a good standard. Featured on the DYK. New Year honours work. Updated all the people who already had articles. All three knights didn't have articles. Going through Massey heritage archive newsletters - all CC - finding all photos and extracting those.

Annie - writing about Australian women and Women in Red work.

Marshall - Supporting editor learning how to edit (part of Australian tertiary education project) & pages for conservation people who received New Year Honours

Lisa - Been doing reporting for Performing Arts Project, setting up new project with Creative New Zealand. Project to increase areas around Treaty of Waitangi content. Matike Mei Aotearoa draft article. Needs more references for this draft article.

Mike - Pounamu carvers, Wikisource - 3 West Coast books. Xmas gifts to editors - West Coast book. Photographs of plants and places. Articles about Lou Sanson. Keri Hulme's death - articles is still very scrappy. Chasing folk to get photo of Keri Hulme.

Mary - Got back to history of public health and early 1900's doctors. Created article on Ian Prior - father of epidemiology in NZ. Difficulty getting photos.

Siobhan - Working on Tingena genus.
