Hi Graeme, I noticed you recovered page 'shammi shinh' it seems this time an admin has deleted some factual information on personal grounds as indicated in the comments. Thanks, Steven. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.218.88.197 (talk) 23:52, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Steven. The person who cut the text was user:Ronz. This user is not an admin. The comment indicates he though the text was promotional. It was probably not personal at all You can talk directly to user talk:Ronz or use talk:Shammi Shinh to work out what to include in the article. Hi Graeme, there's a wikipedia page that you've banned, Zindagi Trust. The content for that page has been newly written, can you please remove the admin access so I can submit a draft for approval? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.217.178.49 (talk) 07:56, 11 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Are you User:FaiqAhmed? If so you are not allowed to edit here. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:39, 11 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

No Graeme, I am from the same organization, would like you to kindly unban the admin access for the page so we can write a short introduction about the organization itself. That's all we're asking from you. We know in the past there had been issues with this, but please give us just one chance. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.217.177.51 (talk) 07:04, 6 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Graeme, can you please share, why this page was banned? I am really sorry if you find it offensive in any way. I am new here, and trying to understand the reason for the conflict. I saw that the name is mentioned in the list of non-governmental organizations but there is no page for this. I tried creating one, but then saw this banned message. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sidraa Khann (talkcontribs) 08:27, 11 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

The reason for the deletion and subsequent ban on recreation was persistent advertising. If you are from the same organisation you can read WP:COI. It wasn't me that deleted or salted. I just did not reverse the delete. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:46, 11 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Graeme, Thank you so much for your kind response and sharing the link. It was very helpful. I am not from that organization. A friend asked me if i can make a page. Since i haven't worked on wikipedia before, i took this as learning opportunity. I've made a draft article, by doing the research on my own. I will be highly obliged if you could please share your feedback on that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Sidraa_Khann/sandbox — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sidraa Khann (talkcontribs) 20:05, 19 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

I have now been given a lot of information about transfusion practitioners by transfusion practitioners from around the world. Could you please restore the page so that I can completely change the page based on all the information I have been given. Thank you--TransfusionDoctor (talk) 13:25, 20 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi you cannot just copy in the text given to you as happened with http://www.isbtweb.org/working-parties/clinical-transfusion/10-role-of-transfusion-practitioner/ into Transfusion practitioner. However you can start writing again using original text. I cannot restore the old version as it contain copyright infringements. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 14:31, 20 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi, You forgot to delete the fix you made to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Child_and_Family_Services_Review&action=history on the list of misspelled words project. I didn't want it to look like I was trying to grab credit. Thanks for the work. bobdog54 (talk) 01:35, 10 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Well some of these were not triggered by the listing, but fixed as colateral when I was fixing something else! I am partway through fixing a list of 5000, in which nothing of what I want to fix is actually getting fixed (fused sentences) instead it fixes other spelling mistakes. This will not result in any strike offs, but will improve spelling overall. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:34, 10 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:05, 1 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi, The bot keep tagging as the file is set up as non-free with a {{Non-free use rationale 2}} and a {{Non-free 2D art}}. That puts it into Category:All non-free media. Those two templates need removing if it is truly a free image. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:16, 3 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Dear Graeme Bartlett, thank you very much for your rating. I try to get better with every article and i woul love to read some A-rated article, to see, what is still missing in mine. Is there a list of these kind of articles? Could you be so kind to give me hints, what is still missing in my articles, or what you didn't like? I would appreciate this very much! Kind regards, --Gyanda (talk) 08:47, 15 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Gyanda: If you are talking about Achim Zeman, the C class is the highest rating I have rated today. To get to B class it will need to be converted to English punctuation, have a bit of a copyedit and tidy up to look good on phones and wide screen computers. Perhaps there should be more on the artist's personal life, and a picture of the artist would add to the article. There is no A class possible for Visual Arts. But once improved to B class the next step is WP:Good article. GA needs a formal assessment. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:04, 15 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Notability on Northwest Unitarian Universalist Congregation Entry edit

Graeme, I have returned from my bicycling trip across the US have added a number of outside/public reference to my Northwest article. Comments added:

"In response to “notability” raised by Wikipedia editors, added approximately 12 additional pubic references from Atlanta papers emphasizing the historic significance of the century old stained glass windows housed in the church, recognition of the church’s commitment to social justice activities and its contributions to the Atlanta arts community."

Please review and remove Notability tag as appropriate.

BTW: I have been won over from an “enthusiastic contributor” to a “reluctant, discouraged contributor.” Wikipedia is filled with arcane, lengthy and confusing directions and woefully lacks examples especially on this notability requirement. I know you're only doing your job. But the cost of purchasing additional newspaper references and the time researching archives has made this effort "un-fun." — Preceding unsigned comment added by UU Archivist (talkcontribs) 20:42, 27 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Dashes edit

The MoS says "en dash (– or {{ndash}})". Why do you consider that the first needs to be changed to the second? Deb (talk) 05:57, 30 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

What I put in looks a lot cleaner in the Wikitext, using "–" rather than &ndash ; or {{ndash}}. This is neither of what you put in, You can see what it is. The example given for the case uses the Unicode symbol for – . The reason you may not want this is because it might look too much like - or — or − which are all different in use here! Anyway I won't be tying anymore to edit that page we are disputing. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:16, 30 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
I've always used – since the MoS was introduced, and I've created and edited an awful lot of biographies. I'm just thinking that you would be making a lot of work for yourself if you tried to change them all. However, if there's a good reason to use the alternative, I don't mind doing it in the future. Deb (talk) 08:06, 30 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Well you can see I have a reason, but it is not a very strong one. Can you type the "–" character? I use the insert at the bottom of the edit box. It is easier to use than the template or html. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:58, 30 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
I much prefer to use a template. Particularly since en dashes are almost always supposed to be spaced, and the space before the en dash is supposed to be a non-breaking space; {{snd}} is just a lot easier to type. And there's the issue of clarity for a future editor: In the wikitext it is too difficult to see which dash (or hyphen or minus) has been used. Jeh (talk) 09:17, 30 August 2018 (UTC) (talk page stalker)Reply
Well, yes, it is difficult, which makes me wonder why people think it's of any importance. I've just got so used to typing it (and I am a very fast typist, which means that sometimes typing can actually be quicker than copy & paste) that I've never thought much about whether I could make it any easier for myself. M. A. Varughese edit

how can help this page from speedy deletion. They argue that it is previously deleted page. But the previous page had not been created by me. M. A. Varughese is the leader of largest christian church in India by people attendance. (with an approximate attendance of 8000 people). So it should be on Wikipedia. Please help this page to avoid deletion from Wikipedia.

@Arun4biju: Well the G4 was invalid, but the Early life section does appear to be copied from a web site. So the G12 was appropriate. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:55, 11 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Graeme Bartlett: Can I overcome this by article rewrite?
@Arun4biju: rewriting in your own original wording will avoid a copyright infringement. I suggest that you write in Draft:M. A. Varughese so that it can be checked to prove that it would survive another AFD. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:46, 11 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please explain the deletion violating copyright???? If it was the summaries those could have been removed. And IMDb plot summaries are not copyrighted as they are user contributed. 119.224.3.221 (talk) 01:47, 12 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

It is the plot summaries that are the problem. Being user contributed does not void copyright at all. See https://www.imdb.com/conditions?ref_=helpms_helpftr_conditions for what imdb claims. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 03:16, 12 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Bacterial secretion system edit

Bacterial secretion system which I created yesterday was deleted

because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://colloidalfrere.blogspot.com/2015/04/secretion.html.

And this I think is a very hasty and imprudent decision. The said blogspot is, in all honesty, one that I have never ever seen, and I cannot even access it right now to know its content. If my article had been carefully read, it opens (the lead section, rather lengthy one) entirely and genuinely with my own words. In fact the rest of the text, i.e. Type I secretion, etc. came from the page Secretion. Is there any check on the blog as a mirror page/copy of this Wikipedia article? If mine is a copyright infringement, that Wikipedia article should also be immediately deleted. In fact, my plan is to present an exhaustive article on bacterial secretion system with new scientific information which are not covered in "Secretion" and sub-articles, and rewrite my page entirely. It is disappointing also that I am not given even a chance to justify ("contest the nomination by visiting the page" is already dead). I have so far worked diligently in improving medicine and biology information through Wikipedia. This action is a bit discouraging. Therefore, I request you to restore the page, and I shall do the rest. Chhandama (talk) 11:13, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Chhandama: That is interesting because it also seemed to be a copy of a paper published in a journal which was pretty definite about its copyright claim. The Secretion page may also need to be chopped off, if that is where your content came from. Anyway perhaps its should be restored to see if someone else copied Secretion. The copyvio report alerts everything from Type I to type VI sections. But your introduction appears to be clean. Anyway Sphilbrick has restored it. To copy Wikipedia without a copyright violation, you must link to the earlier article, perhaps at the bottom of the article in an attribution statement, or on the talk page, or in an edit summary. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:07, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much indeed. As to the attribution, that would not be necessary, I think, as I am planning to rewrite the entire text, add more info, and perhaps, if suitable, submit it to WikiJournal. Chhandama (talk) 05:46, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
If you rewrite the lot it can also be submitted for WP:DYK. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:41, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Your review edit

Hi, dear Greame, thank you for your quick work! :-) - How did you like the article? Remembering your last answer, i asked the artist, whether we could also have a picture of her, and she wrote back that she is willing to give one. Once i uploaded it to commons and everything is okay, i will post it in the article. Kind regards and again, thanks! --Gyanda (talk) 11:37, 19 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

My reviews are very basic, to determine if the page should stay, or be speedy deleted. The problem of other people's pictures will be to prove that copyright permission is granted. A photo of a person, is not normally copyrighted to that person, but to the photographer. It is easiest if you are the photographer. Otherwise there needs to be written proof that the photographer is grantingthe license. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 13:21, 19 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Dear Greame, thanks for your answers, i always do everything i can to fullfill the copyright needs, all will be fine! Kind regards, --Gyanda (talk) 19:55, 19 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Sri Somesvara Temple edit

I've just read this. The editor is continuing to add copyvio links to YouTube to the little group of related articles, including the one he agreed not to use. And as we have Mount Soma, the community where the temple is located, I've turned the temple article into a redirect and added a bit from it to the Mount Soma article. Michael Mamas is a mess and I see that this editor added a source[1] which doesn't even mention him but was used to back text for these edits[2] I'm reverting expect them to be put back. This edit changed "contributory" to the rare variant "contributary", but your edit summary says you meant to change "tributory" to "tributary". So I reverted that word. If that came from AWB's standard edits, those edits should be fixed. Art LaPella (talk) 06:35, 30 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Art LaPella: Thanks for fixing that. The rule was just a local one and designed to fix errors from tributary. However it also needed me to know that contributary was not correct. I was going to change all of the "contributory" spellings, I saw it was used a lot, but then I checked if that was a valid word, and it was, so I aborted that change. I did not realise that I had left a change done. I have now disabled that "tributory" rule. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:45, 30 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yikes edit

This was horribly promotional, had COPYVIO, and was full of unsourced content and promotional interpretation of primary sources, and spam links.

Your edit broke the convert template. Maybe a typo in your WP:AWB script? Regular expressions can be a pain in the butt... :-p --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:08, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for spotting that. It was not a typo, but a failure on my part to manually see and correct the parameter. That use of superscript does not actually need to be changed. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:13, 2 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Liquidsoap edit

  • Hi, favour please. Liquidsoap was deleted at [AfD]
  • Have found significant reference in article Linux Journal volume 280 August 2017 Creating an internet radio station with icecast and liquidsoap
... and I am finding putting "Liquidsoap" -washing into Google scholar yields significant results (not mentioned at AfD ?)
Of the AfD .. the admin is no longer admining ... one delete supporter is blocked and the other sort wikibreaking though the nom may be active.
  • I don't want to rebuild the article from scratch .. I have little clue about soap, liquidsoap or how to use them.
Request Draftification or Userification to see what article looks like, and then to see if I can good faith/salvage it back with new references back to mainspace ( I could go via DRV but seems a poor choice as it may have simply been a WP:TOOSOON ).
NB: Came across this deleted article in a side show in a sort of pre-rescue attempt of Altacast, however Liquidsoap is mentioned on about five other Wikipedia articles so its bigger than just Altacast.
Tried as requests from undelete but rejected as had been part of a deletion discussion.

Colourise? edit

Hi there. Regarding your recent changes, is "colourise" not the correct spelling in British and Australian English? That's what I have in my Collins dictionary, anyway. Thanks, JG66 (talk) 12:10, 7 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@JG66: I also have a Collins dictionary which has (US) colorize, (non-US) colourise or colourize. I have been changing "colorise" which is not on the dictionary list to either colorize if it looks American, or colourise if it looks British. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:09, 7 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
OK, but I think a few of the changes you made should actually be the British version, ie when the article's style is British English. As it happens, I see Adam9007 has just imposed this in the articles I was watching. JG66 (talk) 01:50, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
I've noticed that the script I was using changes 'Colorize' to 'Colorise' (and doesn't seem to think there's anything wrong with it when I use it to change to UK spelling), which is non-standard. I had to change it manually to 'Colourise'. Pinging Ohconfucius in case there's something I'm missing. Adam9007 (talk) 01:54, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
"colorise" is certainly not a standard spelling, not British or US. Anyone is welcome to fix the style of spelling to the consistent one. I merely used a default, and if I saw a header to suggest otherwise manually changed it, so the edit summary may not match the final outcome. It would be good if AWB had a flag to indicate spelling style. That would make it easy to tell how to change it. Adam9007s script is not doing the right stuff. I am just using a change and replace pattern that cannot tell automatically the spelling style. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:24, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Return of the Ten Masked Men edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Return of the Ten Masked Men requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article does not exist or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. ♠PMC(talk) 07:59, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Review question (Article) edit

Hi Graeme Bartlett. Thank you for taking the time to read my question. Months ago you helped me with the very first article I created. I figured you are the best person to ask. I am relatively very new to Wikipedia but am learning more and more as I dive deeper. The latest article which I have created; named Dear Reality, I believe has not been reviewed or checked. The very first article I created months ago, was reviewed and accepted, which I received a notification for. My concern is; have I somehow not submitted this particular article correctly, because I haven't had any type of notification since its creation? Is it because it does not qualify to be submitted, as I believe I have provided adequate review sources and comply with Wiki standards. Must I add some type of text for it to be open for review within the edit source? I have been reading into Autoconfirmed users, which I believe is what my account is, but I'm still reading and taking all that in. I just want to make sure I haven't done something completely wrong and can avoid this in the future.

I apologise if this question is very newby and may be making it more complicated than it should be. I get a tad nervous on Wikipedia as I know I am no way near as skilled as others on here. I am just trying to take my time and slowly understand how all things work.

Any help is greatly appreciated and really does help to increase my knowledge and confidence. Thank you! Falconik123 (talk) 20:07, 17 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

List of gases edit

I have long been collecting information about gases. I now know about 844 gases.

I will gradually add information to the wikipedia page whenever possible.

1. Can your add list number into page "List of gases"?

2. XeO4 isn't gas. (Inorganic Chemistry. - 1982. - Vol. 21, No. 2. - p. 687). It vapor pressure is 25 mmHg (0 C).

Curious2013 (talk) 11:05, 3 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Curious2013: It will be great for you to contribute. By list number, do you mean the name of the list, or the entry number in that list? The default there was the CRC Handbook. Perhaps I should add "†" or the like to mark these entries. If XeO4 isn't a gas with pressure 1 atm,at or below 25° vapour pressure, it should be taken off! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:31, 3 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Other symbols for indicating big lists: §¶‡¤◊*⁂‖
I mean entry number in that list. Some cell does not draw the borders of the table cells (e.g. Vinyldifluoroborane). Why?Curious2013 (talk) 08:48, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
THe lack of box drawn is due to the row finishing early, in this case because the minus sign is − and not -. These are two different symbols. The |-41 combo, terminates the row of the table, you should use |−41 with a unicode minus sign. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:15, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Ahmed Farid edit

Hi there! I was sent a remark by concerning the article "Ahmed Farid" with tag peacock; I looked that up and understood the meaning, but I don't see how that applies? There are no words describing the subject as great or fascinating or anything, but there is a reference mentioning something close to that, so are references considered part of the problem if glorifying the subject? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MostafaAdelSaf (talkcontribs) 13:53, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi @MostafaAdelSaf:. This is pretty easy to fix. The words that have triggered my use of the peacock tag are: "passion", "front runner", "scouted" and "Microsoft gold partner". For that last one it will be better to actually say what the company name is without any mention of its certification. Some of these words may be due to the writing style. Because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia please keep a serious formal tone. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:05, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much! I've rectified the page in accordance with your recommendations. If you could help with why the page was also labelled "orphan" and how to amend that too (I can't figure out which links to put where exactly, there are Wikipedia links on the page so I don't get what's wrong), I'd be very much grateful! — Preceding unsigned comment added by MostafaAdelSaf (talkcontribs) 22:33, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@MostafaAdelSaf: "Orphan" means that no other article link to this one. So it means that you should find mentions of Ahmed Farid in Wikipedia and then link to this article. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:36, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Merry Merry edit

  Happy Christmas!
Hello Graeme Bartlett,
Early in A Child's Christmas in Wales the young Dylan and his friend Jim Prothero witness smoke pouring from Jim's home. After the conflagration has been extinguished Dylan writes that

Nobody could have had a noisier Christmas Eve. And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?"

My thanks to you for your efforts to keep the 'pedia readable in case the firemen chose one of our articles :-) Best wishes to you and yours and happy editing in 2019. MarnetteD|Talk 22:42, 18 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

File:Batouala title page.jpg edit

See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Dear Graeme: Thank you also for your incredible help this year. Together we have created dozens of articles that make Wikipedia even more useful and reliable. I owe a lot to you, not to mention some other colleagues for help and patience.

I will tweak the ChemBox format. I just have a weak memory for formatting and anything approaching coding, including templates. So I leave little notes to myself. Sometimes these notes cause problems. One particular interest is to recognize all important hydrates for many inorganic salts, hence the issue.

Review edit

Hello! I just received a "Reviewed" notification re: Solrad 3. Can you tell me exactly what that entails? Thank you! --Neopeius (talk) 03:11, 11 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Neopeius:. That means that I have done a WP:New page patrol click on the page, to say that I have reviewed the page. I checked that there were no copyright problems and that the page had references and would be suitable for Wikipedia. All the new pages are supposed to get patrolled or checked by someone else apart from the writer. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 03:15, 11 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Oh! I had no idea how that worked. I am happy to say I've never had a page fail this check. Maybe I'll join the posse. Do you find problem pages often? --Neopeius (talk) 03:54, 11 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
I very often find text copied from other web sites. I remove the text if it is just a few sentences. If most of it is copied then I nominate for deletion. Sometimes I find a hoax. Promotional text is also common. Unimportant sounding people are also frequent. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 04:29, 11 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

"Blks" edit

Hi! I saw your edit regarding UNTV Cup Season 6 that you updated the abbreviation "Blks" to the whole word "Blocks". I initially put "Blks" for uniformity because the other statistics in Template:Basketballbox are abbreviated ("Pts", "Rebs", "Asts"). Pardon my innocence, is it best practice to put it as "Blocks" and "Stls" as "Steals"? Thank you! elivic (talk) 10:27, 14 January 2019 (UTC) elivicReply

Well the general policy is to avoid unneeded abbreviations. Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Abbreviations does not list it. I do not know if the Basketball project has any documented practice. If it is a common abbreviation in the real world then it should be added to Wiktionary! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:42, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hi Graeme Bartlett, I'm torn regarding this because the Template:Basketballbox use abbreviated statistics, while on different basketball leagues, they usually use the abbreviated term on TV or online box scores. I haven't touched your edits because I know you know better. Example box scores: NBA UNTV Cup PBA EuroLeague elivic (talk) 12:04, 14 January 2019 (UTC)elivicReply

Proposed deletion of 3-stage VTEC edit

The article 3-stage VTEC has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Lacks citations, has only one source, main VTEC article covers 3-stage VTEC.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Heavy Sunrise edit

Hello Graeme,

I am the author of the Heavy Sunrise band page. I saw your notice about deletion and wanted your advice on changes or revisions I need to make. One centered around a question of copyright. This is my first Wiki entry and I want to get it right. Please clarify your concerns - I'm willing to learn...

(PDS8000 (talk) 22:19, 27 January 2019 (UTC))Reply

@PDS8000: About half of the page was copied off another web site. Everything should be written in your own words where possible. Track list is OK. TO make a claim of importance take a read of Wikipedia:Notability (music). If you start writing on Draft:Heavy Sunrise you will have more time to show notability. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:24, 27 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for info.

I wish I would have had a little time to correct this before the whole thing was deleted and I lost ALL my work. Is there any way to access the original page content so I can change it? A little frustrating...

(PDS8000 (talk) 22:29, 27 January 2019 (UTC))Reply

Oh yes, and the copy was in my own words, because I wrote the copy for the other site. Does that count for anything? Curious...

(PDS8000 (talk) 22:33, 27 January 2019 (UTC))Reply

@PDS8000: this depends on whether you own the copyright or not. If you are paid to do the job, then the person paying may own the copyright depending on the contract. By default the writer will own the copyright. To prove that you are the person you can add the copyright license to the original web publication (CC-BY-SA-3.0) or you can use WP:OTRS. But if you are paid you must comply with WP:Paid editing. To avert an A9 delete these should first have been an article on Adam Cooper (producer) that showed why this person is notable. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:36, 27 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Please check the new Heavy Sunrise page for any corrections or changes. I want to get off on the right foot here...

(PDS8000 (talk) 22:53, 27 January 2019 (UTC))Reply

There is still no claim of importance, although there looks to be no copyright infringement. Also I am expecting you to make a statement on User:PDS8000 about who is paying you to write this! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:48, 27 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Nobody is paying me to write this - I'll research the claim of importance stuff and post something ASAP. This is an established artist/band and I'm a huge fan of the genre (please refer to the guitarist's earlier 90s work in the band Alison's Halo. Plenty of credible sources and importance there.

So is Jetpackstudios anything to do with Heavy Sunrise? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:03, 28 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

I liked the name of the guitar player's studio, and created the username - not knowing that was suspect to Wiki. Had to change it when Wikipedia claims conflict of interest or something.

What should I write for claim of importance. Is there a specific format?

(PDS8000 (talk) 00:18, 28 January 2019 (UTC))Reply

see if any of Wikipedia:Notability (music) applies. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:20, 28 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the band checks many of the Notability boxes here. The band's past work and prominence within the genre of Shoegaze also adds the the importance of them having an entry on Wikipedia. Updated the Heavy Sunrise page to reflect many of the important highlights and contributions to the genres of Shoegaze and Atmospheric music - making sure to avoid the past wording by creating all new content for the entry. Thanks for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PDS8000 (talkcontribs) 04:57, 28 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello Graeme, A little bit of research within the musical sub-genres of Shoegaze and Dreampop will reveal the relevance of the guitarist's previous band and his work as a songwriter and producer. His work with the band lovesliescrushing alone warrants a Heavy Sunrise Wikipedia entry. Sound like you have the topics and fields of geology and chemistry dialed in, but I'm not sure your knowledge in this area of music is adequate. Please follow-up on the revised Heavy Sunrise page. There is nothing here that warrants a Copyright violation as well. The new text is all original. The image is under Creative Commons and free for public use.

(PDS8000 (talk) 06:57, 28 January 2019 (UTC))Reply

I cannot see any copyright problem this time. So I will leave it to others to decide on claims of importance for music. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:24, 28 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@C messier: if it had 25% more text I would have graded this as C. My basic criterion to get a C is to fill my screen with writing (so contents and see also are not counted). You can rate your own writings too, and I would be unlikely to down grade. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:00, 30 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

The mainspace article was not based on the draft. So history would just be confused by merging. You could redirect the draft to mainspace though. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:28, 31 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, what happened was someone created a draft and then another editor created an article directly in the main space. The article was deleted, I was seeing if the history of page and talk can be directly restored to the Steven Pruitt page, not the draft the draft I will just redirect. I can't see the history, but I believe there maybe alot of information in its history that cannot be seen and could be used for expansion. Valoem talk contrib 22:10, 31 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

project tagging edit

please note that I am trying to improve the status of the Australian biota project talk page tagging the in face of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Calytrix_divergens - where there is no sign of biota for a plant talk page and the daunting task of zeroing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Unknown-importance_Australian_biota_articles which is still too close to 10k - so in WP:AGF would appreciate any help in acknowleding the project on talk pages and the all very important biota-importance=low - which is the project default. Trust your new year is going well and thanks for any help you can show at any time in the future with new plant articles - thanks JarrahTree 13:06, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

@JarrahTree: This job could be helped out with AWB. It should be able to find Low-importance plant articles that also have a WP Australia template and add |biota=yes |biota-importance=low . The issues will be to deal with all the variability with spacing and whether the tags are already there. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:04, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Would you please review AfD Damon J. Smith edit

Hi Graeme, I am reaching out to you as you undid a previous flag for deletion on a page I created - Damon J. Smith - It seems there is a user who is bent on defacing this page, as after you undid his flag, he created a new user name and submitted the article as an Articles for Deletion, which, of course, created a new flag at the top of the page. I did see some merit to some of their critique, so I made quite a bit of improvements to the copy editing, removed a few non-notable sources and added a few other very good sources. The original user - who was brand new BTW and whose only contribution has been to deface my page - has not yet responded to close the AfD. I'm not sure what I should do next, so I thought I'd reach out to you for direction. Any advice or help you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thank you Taryndejesus (talk) 18:31, 3 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

What I did was to remove the prod tag based on your request. For prod, it can be removed by anyone for any reason. But for an AFD, the community has to decide, and I cannot just remove the AFD tag. I don't think Ludston wants to deface the page, (that would be vandalism) but instead wants to get it removed. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:46, 4 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the response. I understand and, yes, it does appear that he wants to get the page removed. I've just never encountered this before and am unsure how to proceed since he is not responding. The page passes all notability guidelines, so the discussion should be closed. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Taryndejesus (talk) 15:22, 4 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

How do I get a picture deleted from Commons? edit

Hi Graeme,

I noticed you are an administrator. I have a question. If someone regrets uploading a picture to Commons, due to privacy reasons, is it possible to have it deleted? And if so, what are the steps? Any guidance is welcome.

Thanks for your time. Amin (Talk) 02:13, 13 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Amin: Go to commons and edit the file description page and put {{Speedydelete |1=Author or uploader request deletion }} on top of the description. Another reason to give is " Temporary deletion for history cleaning or revision suppression". If you don't want to draw attention to the privacy violation you can email an active administrator on commons to privately ask for deletion. An oversighter may be required if it is a very serious privacy violation. See also commons:Commons:Deletion policy and commons:Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion. Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular) edit

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Your draft article, Draft:Egg repair edit

Hello, Graeme Bartlett. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Egg repair".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Lapablo (talk) 07:56, 5 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Typos edit

If you are an administrator, why do you use your time fixing spelling and typos? Eschoryii (talk) 12:07, 23 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

I enjoy it to some extent. It does not require too much thought. As more of a challenge I add the new words to Wiktionary, and even more challenging is words that are not English. If I do too much I get bored. Administrators do not just have do use administrator tools. I often do undeletion though. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:10, 23 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Oh. A way to avoid burnout. I know very little of Wiki world but there needs to be a way to force periods of rest or fun for the most active editors. The addicted need a treatment program. Thanks for your response. Eschoryii (talk) 21:43, 23 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Also I do not think I deserve a thank you for fixing a typo in an article. I appreciate the thank you for working in the area of article cleanup. Eschoryii (talk) 00:21, 24 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
I get more thank-yous for fixing typos— for perhaps 5 seconds' work than for any other work. But when I write an article that takes several days, I usually hear nothing. But there is some satisfaction when the topic becomes trendy and hundreds or thousands or people read it. (eg Lanthanum decahydride). Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:25, 24 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Loran Helm edit

The article Loran Helm has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Doesn't appear to meet WP:NAUTHOR on the basis of his single (not all that notable based on search) book.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ♠PMC(talk) 13:26, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Nomination of Loran Helm for deletion edit

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Loran Helm is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Loran Helm until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. ♠PMC(talk) 23:08, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

File:Iran national football team logo.png edit

Hi Graeme. This file is basically the same as File:Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran (low res).png, the non-free use of which was discussed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2016 February 17#File:Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran.png. Occasionally someone pretty much uploads the same file (almost certainly in good faith) because they assume that an FFD close only applies to the exact file which was discussed, and doesn't apply to the same file uploaded under a different name. Since you made this edit here (I think because of User talk:Graeme Bartlett/archive 26#FFD closes), I assuming that the close would still apply to this file as well (basically same file different name). Anyway, I removed the file and it's now an orphan. Would you mind watching the article a bit just in case it's re-added? -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:19, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

descendant and descendent edit

Hi Graeme, thank you for all your hard work in cleaning up typos, however descendent is not a typo, but a valid (if less common) variant of descendant - see Merriam-Webster. So we should not prefer one spelling over another. Would you mind reverting your recent changes relating to this word? Thanks. Bermicourt (talk) 11:29, 13 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

You do seem to be correct that both are valid. but there seems to be little point in changing as there does not seem to be regional use that would require descendent. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:32, 13 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Or vice-versa - there is no reason to prefer descendant - hence my polite request that the changes are reverted to the spelling used by the original editors. Bermicourt (talk) 11:42, 13 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Here is a citation for descendant being a noun and descendent being a verb. They are not equivalents. I agree with Graeme Bartlett. --Ancheta Wis   (talk | contribs) 02:14, 15 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
It depends who you read. But actually I rather like the idea that descendant is a noun and descendent is an adjective (not a verb mind), so I'm happy to go with the OED which agrees with Graeme and not with Merriam-Webster. Bermicourt (talk) 13:57, 15 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Article recovery edit

I would like to make modification of my article Analysis of Controlled Deformation in Rocks and Soils, because you delete it of the reason copied from another source. I am new, I don't know how to do it. Can you recover the aticle for me, then I will do some modifications. Thank you for your help Smlhd1993 (talk) 18:43, 6 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello Smlhd1993, actually user:RHaworth deleted the page. I nominated it for deletion as a copyright infringement because I found numerous copied sentences in many paragraphs from something called "DESIGN_AND_CONSTRUCTION_OF_TUNNELS". It may be that you did not use the URL. Also if one thing is copied there is a good chance that other sources were copied too, although I did not detect any other copying. If you actually wrote the original "DESIGN_AND_CONSTRUCTION_OF_TUNNELS" then copying is probably OK and all you have to do is prove that. Another possibility is that what you copied was published with a license that allows copying, but there seems to be no acknowledgement of that. Copyright is treated seriously here, so if I see a sentence copied I might rewrite it, if several sentences are copied I would remove the copied text. But where a lot of different content is copied I just nominate it for deletion. A person that wants the article can rewrite it from scratch without copying other's work. Are you willing to admit what texts you copied in to the page? If there is text that only you wrote it may be possible to recover just that. Do you have your own copy of your writing? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:06, 6 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hello, Graeme Bartlett, Thank you for telling me about the copywhite rule. For what I wrote Analysis of Controlled Deformation in Rocks and Soils(ADECO-RS) is put forward by Professor Pietro Lunardi,So I refer to some paragraph of his Book DESIGN_AND_CONSTRUCTION_OF_TUNNELS to make my article detailed. This is a good lesson for me. But I would like to ask, afterwards, I will delete the copies sentences of ADECO-RS and rewrite the article(ADECO-RS)on my own words. How should I do? I haven't save this article in my computer, but in the article, there is a lot of work of my own. Should I rewrite the article on my sandbox again or do something else. Thank you.Smlhd1993 (talk) 07:25, 7 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hello Smlhd1993 I have sent you a message, So I hope you receive it and can post a good page to replace the one that is deleted. The copyright on the DESIGN_AND_CONSTRUCTION_OF_TUNNELS looks to be complicated, involving Pietro Lunardi, a translator and the book publisher, so we can't expect it to be released under a free license that permits copying. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:50, 7 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

MOCVD Precursors Database edit

Hello Mr. Bartlett

I received your comments on the page I am trying to publish so let me get to each comment accordingly.

1. Wikipedia is not a database as such but could include list articles. So there could be list of chemical vapour deposition precursors. Since there looks to be a lot, it would be good to subdivide them into logical groups. Grouping alkali metals with Nb and Ta seems a bit weird so is there any logic to it? Perhaps list of alkali-metal chemical vapour deposition precursors, list of transition-metal chemical vapour deposition precursors.

Answer: Yes, you are correct Wikipedia is not a database so we can change the name of the page accordingly but the basic idea behind making this was to bring knowledge at the footstep of the general public and researchers more so. Dividing them could be one solution, I will discuss this with my project superiors. Grouping was not the intention initially but to develop the table for all the precursors of any element that is available for deposition.

2. Secondly your user looks to be representing a group. Here only individual people can have a Wikipedia logon, so you should use WP:CHU to change your user name to indicate an individual rather than the organisation. For example ITN-ENHANCE Project-Smith or ITN-ENHANCE Project person1

Answer: I cannot give you a proper answer right away, but I will discuss with my superiors and get back to you so that we can make the necessary changes. ITN-ENHANCE Project (talk) 09:00, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

@ITN-ENHANCE Project: Thanks for answering here. Bringing knowledge at the footstep of the general public is our common goal, so I am sure your contribution can be valuable. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:40, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Lize56: That yellow box is the submit to AFC template. It is inviting someone to review the page. If you do not want someone else to review, then you can remove the yellow box, and the pink box which was a previous review. It can take 2 months for someone to have a look. The other choices are that you move the page to an article, or you create an article based on the content. Or you can just keep a sandbox for practicing. Not a turkey edit

Dear Graeme, in [5] you gave the edit summary "remove afc as turkey reviewing seem to have no clue". This is a rather personal comment about another editor, but more to the point, Bkissin's decline was based on a copyvio which Earwig's Copyvio Detector detects as 97.9% confidence. Large swathes of the article are the copyright of an André Méhu. I think you might want to apologise to the reviewer. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 08:53, 31 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Images - MOCVD Precursors Database edit

Hi ITN-ENHANCE Project,

I want to make some comments about the images you have uploaded. Many appear to be copied from journal articles or books. Unless you are the author, or owner of the copyright, you cannot upload other people's work here and claim a CC-BY type license on it. For chemical structure diagrams, we treat these as public domain, and so you are permitted to upload them. For the other graphs, either you have to prove that you own the copyright or you can redraw them yourself using different styles so that you own the copyright, then you are permitted to upload. Much of what you have uploaded to commons could be like this, so I urge you to review what you have uploaded to see if copyright law allows it. Wikipedia has higher standards than most academic journals in relation to copyright and referencing. Let me know which way you want to proceed. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 03:26, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Answer:

Dear Mr. Bartlett

Thank you for your review and changes to the MOCVD precursors page so now to answer your questions about the images and the doubts about some images which are not publishable for that very reason I have mentioned the references and the authors or the source of the image wherever it has been taken from (separate column for the reference on each precursor has been mentioned exclusively). If this way of quoting the owner of the image is not allowed by the Wikipedia community then I will do the needful as explained by you and yes you are right, not all are my work barring few of them.

Thank you for your kind support.

Hi Graeme. I notice that you added some data to the chembox at 8,9-Dihydrocannabidiol. However, it seems to match the data for cannabidiol, so I have removed it. Can you take a second look? Thanks, -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:22, 8 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Nevermind, I seem to be mistaken. Sorry about my confusion. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:33, 8 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Actually I accidentally added the inchi info for cannabidiol, but I fixed it. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:22, 8 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
