Dear Graeme, may we please get (will you help promote) a revision added to the diagram under "Production of Acetaldehyde" on the page of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury%28II%29_sulfate that includes the product of methyl mercury and/or all other side products? this will be highly helpfull to know what to expect from that reaction, having learned from the past, (ie: the digram shows the catalyst and acetaldehyde as resultants leaving out the methyl mercury found to be produced as a byproduct {molar by percent compared to expected non production will show how what the plant engineers in japan expected to what is actual, showing the experimental/applied and theoretical relations}). thank you ryan — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.123.122.58 (talk) 12:38, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

El Clasico

Hi Graeme. Requesting long term (ie. indefinite) protection of El Clasico article. Reason is simple; having an article of one of the fiercest and most contentious rivalries in world sport unprotected has led to the page being one of the most vandalised on this site, As a fan of neither team I have tried to maintain neutrality but have ended up reverting constant vandalism. I had assumed the page was locked permanently but alas it became unlocked and as usual had to revert more vandalism. Last weeks unofficial referendum in Catalonia that voted for independence is indicative of how contentious this rivalry is thus the repeated vandalism is par for the course in such an article.Carlos Rojas77 (talk) 21:53, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

Follow up on El Clasico

Graeme...issue on the article with an editor, Cid Campeador3, ignoring previous messages sent to him by other users on the issue of content disputes. He was told to request for comment on the dubious sources he continues to add into the article without gaining any consensus on talk. He hasn't asked for any assistance on the issue and ploughs on ahead. I'm neutral on this subject and have removed biased material from the two sets of fans; in this case, Cid Campeador3, a Madrid fan, is giving a Madrid slanted viewpoint on a contentious game (11-1 match in 1943). I'm doing my best to keep the article from being skewed toward either club, and have messaged him that he needs to follow the advice he was given by other editors to gain consensus on talk, go to arbcom if need be, rather than fragrantly ignore other editors and inserting his own viewpoint. Not just that but his English is weak, uses bare URL (and the same one several times over). I dont care what happened just that it is recorded accurately. Trying to maintain the quality of an article is not easy when someone repeatedly ignores standard practice. Your input would be welcomed.Carlos Rojas77 (talk) 02:53, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

Binary compounds of hydrogen

Are you happy with the changes made to Binary compounds of hydrogen between 24 June 2014 and 5 December 2014? Biscuittin (talk) 17:05, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

How it is now, there is a lack of references. Some sentences are incomplete or misleading. Some substances mentioned are not binary compounds of hydrogen. There are some contradictions. But that is not the changes. When I check the changes they are mostly colour scheme(s). But I will check more. The colour scheme used in the first two periodic tables does not match, this just makes things less clear. What assessed or not-assessed is unexplained on the page. Also there is a lack of units for the enthalpies.

For the changes, which are mainly the intro to the molecular hydrides, there is an improvement, but still a lack of references. The monomeric hydrides have a wrong emphasis now on the most obscure and hard to make ones, whereas the common ones like methane, water and hydrogen chloride are not mentioned. Plasmic has not followed the requirement to include references. THough the material is not controversial, just seriously inbalanced. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 01:17, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Demiurge1000 had nominated it for speedy deletion as copyright infringement, then I thought that most of the article was good and that the copyright infringing text could be rewritten or chopped. But on checking further the rest of the text was also a copyright violation. The copied text was from http://books.google.ca/books?id=mCHPARZQ0KsC&pg=PA30&lpg=PA30 Industrial Microbiology: An Introduction By Michael J. Waites, Neil L. Morgan, John S. Rockey, Gary Higton. So I cut my effort to rewrite the lot to delete the whole thing. Since this was recent you should check other work if the user appears to be productive. Thank you for your briliant comment! Those deleted articles (including the one you deleted) wasn't my recently created articles. It was one of the articles I created at my earliest time on wikipedia when I was not in any way familiar with policies. There were about 4 or 5 of them then that was blatant word-for-word copyvio, and 3 were deleted at AfD on the basis of notability. In fact I even had a competency issues then at ANI and a very big thanks to User:DGG and others who saved me from being blocked then. Over the time I had grown to be a competent wikipedian, who have a core understanding of wikipedia policies with over 50 undeleted articles (not even with any maintenance tag). See them here in order of their creation and you will see that those deleted articles wasn't my recently created articles, over 50 undeleted articles was created thereafter. This article contained personal details of mine which the initial contributor did not seek permission from me to post. No wonder I can't get a job. As a fellow Australian, I would really appreciate it if you could permanently delete the sections which state my name and birthdate, or delete the page altogether. The initial contributor has not been active since 2012, doesn't seem like he's coming back anytime soon. Merry Chrismas U3083960. I doubt that will affect your job prospects, but it has been removed from public view on Wikipedia now by using revison deletion on the text. depreciated cite parameters

It looks like you are not aware that |coauthors= is depreciated in {{cite journal}}. I started removing them in Magnesium monohydride.

Some cs1 errors are visible, but other are not. If you add .citation-comment { display: inline !important; } to your vector.css file, all errors show up in their bright red glory.

Also, there is a PUA in the article... a unicode character that displays a box. It's in the citation with the title of "Subvalent Compounds Featuring Direct Metal-Metal Bonds". It was in between the two ZNs. I removed it, but I'm not sure what was supposed to be there. Bgwhite (talk) 08:51, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

I am using a Wikipedia standard gadget to add references, the "cite" button from the Wikipedia:RefToolbar. I suggest that you fix the built in scripts first! Because there will be more and more references being produced that way. People that decide to change the way a template works really need to fix everything that produces that template. That strange unicode character should look like a hyphen, but it appears it is from a "private use area". This can be fixed! Also I will add that style sheet element. The strange unicode would have come via https://tools.wmflabs.org/reftoolbar/lookup.php, but I don't know whether to blame that as it also has trouble with German umlauts as well. It could well be the data store behind DOI. The script putting out the coauthor is at MediaWiki:RefToolbarLegacy.js. I didn't know you were using RefToolbar and I don't use it. So, I guess we are crossing wires in this case. The people who work on CS1 related templates are usually very good at informing others. RefToolbar was made aware of the depreciated parameters and was supposedly fixed. RefToolbarLegacy.js is no longer maintained.

As for the PUA, no need to worry about it. PUAs and invisible Unicode characters are added all the time, usually from copy/paste. The vast majority of the time, I know how to fix the PUA, but I was unsure in this case, thus my note. Bgwhite (talk) 22:45, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Requesting page protection on FC Barcelona

Hi Graeme. FC Barcelona's page has been subjected to repeated vandalism. The page itself only became unlocked when the higher level Admin lock expired (one of the flaws that occurs when really the page should return to being locked). If the investigation results in a ban then we can speedy delete, or if it is too promotional then speedy delete can happen. But a large proportion of stuff here is written by someone with an interest in the subject, and if it is not too bad then a consensus can decide its outcome. Perhaps some of these AFDs could be combined if the topics are connected. Secondly if speedy delete happens there is nothing to stop another attempt to create a similar thing, but once AFD decides to delete it is very easy to delete again. So AFD is good for finality. Graeme name

Hi, I was just trying to look up "Graeme" as a name, and I see your name around -- the only usage of Graeme I recall anywhere--and I figure you must be an expert! I see Graeme goes to a dab page Graham (disambiguation) which doesn't explain much. The dab wording is a bit confusing, implying at top that Graeme can be a given name, but below sort of seeming to imply that it is only a surname. I wonder if it could be added that it is a given name of some nationality or another, at the top? I am mildly curious. It came up for me because there is a Graeme name used by me in a reference at Le Courrier de Floride, where I am worried that I might have misunderstood something (are they the author or not?), but that person has surname Hamilton. Wilfred de Souza

Just curious as to why you deleted the PROD notice at the above article. The two references provided do nothing to establish notability. The first gives no reference to de Souza at all and the second is a memorial notice for his son, which only establishes that de Souza exists. Block request

I'm requesting a 72 hr block to help enforce a Wikibreak. Protect Existing Article?

Graeme,

Thank you for publishing my article. Unfortunately there are some wikipedia users trying to have it deleted, as I notice they deleted another article I had contributed a good deal to with the band of musicians, artists and developers, of which Jacob Alexander Figueroa / Zander is a key contributing member. There was an article previously on the band, which I'm not sure if you were able to view before it was taken down, but it had several independent and verifiable sources yet it was taken down for having a lack thereof. It seems the same situation is now happening with the article Jacob Alexander Figueroa. As you are well aware, since you published the article initially, this article does in fact have international press and independent, verifiable sources, such as NY Arts Magazine, MPR News, and the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival. I was wondering if you would be able to provide neutrality and mediation in this matter and protect the article from being removed? Suggesting to generally replace a template by a better one, or to merge two, has nothing to do with it. Not sure that I understand completely but quite willing to learn. Do you mean that template discussion is not under the scope of the restriction? Then we agree. - I participate in one of them. I wanted to use {{infobox hymn}} and found that it is very limited in parameters. Therefore I looked around what else to use and found {{infobox musical composition}}. You can compare in the same article because there was a little edit war: Vom Himmel hoch, da komm ich her vs. the same with "hymn" (try to find it, - we have to deal with a user who doesn't believe an image should be in an infobox because a certain pdf-writer doesn't print an image from the infobox, but that's a different story). Consensus was for "composition". When I mentioned the problems of "hymn" to Andy he researched and made the formal request, still found on top of the pages. If you look at the discussion: some users seem to believe the article would no longer be in category hymn if the infobox name was "musical composition" (or - as I later suggested - "composition"). However: our readers don't see that difference, only editors. I fail to understand the amount of resistance. The template documentation has an example "hymn" that can be copied, if there is fear of wading through too many parameters. - Now I compare, my style of simply using "composition", and Andy's open official way, inviting discussion from everybody involved. Could indulge me by elaborating upon or double checking this CSD decline? It's a tag that I've noticed is handled inconsistently, which is to be expected to some extent because it requires interpretation of what "unambiguous advertising or promotion" means as it applies to a variety of cases, but this one strikes me as a particularly clear example. The entire article comprises a short definition of what kind of software it is, a website link, a line of platforms it's compatible with, and then a comparatively long list of "features". That the features list appear to be copied directly from the developer's website seems to support their promotional nature -- not necessarily in the sense of commercial advertising, of course, but in the sense that its only purpose a "feature" list serves is to promote rather than to give an encyclopedic treatment. I didn't notice it was a copy/paste job when I tagged it initially, but still don't think it requires copyvio grounds to qualify for csd. To me, if it looks like a spec sheet or marketing brochure that would be just as at home on the developer's website, it's likely it qualifies for G11. That itself is an oversimplification since there's still subjectivity involved, but that's why I'm curious how other people interpret it. — Rhododendrites ^talk \\ 06:53, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

A definition, and a list of features could easily be in an encyclopedic article. I would delete if the article was entirely promotional language, or full of hype. Theis often happens when it is written by PR people. But in this case there are encyclopedic contents. The tone is advertisement, but it can be edited to remove the tone (eg get rid of "your"). Speedy delete should only apply if there is nothing at all that could be saved if we deleted each promotional sentence. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:53, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

To me it seems at odds with NOT/NPOV for a bulletpointed list of software features (an unsourced list which it turns out was copied from the company website) combined with a very brief definition (that doesn't make any claim to notability), to be considered non-promotional and/or an acceptable encyclopedia article (regardless of COPYVIO issues). That said, I don't really want to argue with you on this; I just disagree with the call and am feeling a little frustrated that G11 seems like kind of a crapshoot depending on who sees the tag. On the other end of the spectrum I've seen long, multi-section, multi-sourced articles deleted for G11 as well. Ultimately I'd just be happier if it were more consistent one way or the other so I know which road to take. It is not abandoned, as edited in the last few months. There is a comment at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive870#WP:BLP violations etc at Targeted Individual. This draft does not suffer from the BLP problems found in the original article, so I think it looks to be an attempt to address the problems, so we can let it develop. It cannot be created by banned people. If circumstances change and there are many appearances of independent writings in newspapers, or major TV stations have a program about the company then it can be created. I do not understand why the sources that I have quoted are considered unreliable. The source used for evidence of electoral results was the Borough of Poole. The Borough of Poole is the local authority to which Poole People councillors are elected, and its employees the Returning Officer who is responsible for the administration of local elections. The only other source quoted was the Daily Echo which is the long established local paper in this area. Having read the guidelines for reliable sources, newspapers of this nature should be acceptable where they are setting out facts. I am having trouble figuring out what needs to be done to have Daniel Weitzner added to wikipedia. The page I created originally was based on his bio at his MIT web page (https://www.csail.mit.edu/user/1283) which, although it has a cc-0 tag was autodeleted. So I created a new page with none of the same wording as that to avoid the autodelete. The notability, however, seems to be being questioned as I am citing the notable things he has done (like created the White House's privacy policy) and the like. I realize I should include his awards and such - but when I included the following paragraph (from his page) or anything like it, it gets autodeleted (again, despite being public domain).

(quoted from MIT page) Weitzner is a founder of the Center for Democracy and Technology, led the World Wide Wed Consortium’s public policy activities, and was Deputy Policy Director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. In 2012 he was named to the Newsweek/Daily Beast Digital Power Index as a top ‘Navigator’ of global Internet public policy and in 2013 he received the International Association of Privacy Professional’s Leadership Award. (end quote)

note that the above does indeed include major awards, his role as the head of Internet policy for the Obama administration would seem to qualify as notable by itself, even without these, and he is constantly being quoted in the news and such (for example a Google news search today on "Daniel Weitzner" finds about 50 articles).

I've been a wikipedia entry for a long time, and I'd certainly say Danny is better known than I am, especially after his White House stint - so it seems to me he fits the Golden rule, meets the notability rule for academics, and that the problem is that I'm just not a very good wikipedia author. So I'm seeking more specific advice about what I might do... I've been a fan of his for many years, have coauthored articles with him in major publications, and feel that his omission from Wikipedia is ironic, given he is one of the people who helped create the very policies on which the web was created as open and free (he headed the World Wide Web Consortium's Technology and Society Domain and was instrumental in the ruling against Eolas in a patent-case that literally could have shut down wikipedia, among many other pages, due to its cost - http://www.w3.org/2003/10/27-rogan.html)

I could go on (he's keynoted Usenix, appeared on dozens of panels with Berners-Lee and other clear notables

I'm happy to put some of the above in more formal form into the article if it would make a difference, the problem is since I'm clearly missing why he isn't notable, it's hard to know what of the above might change your mind.

Inappropriate article title

In every instance I've ever seen of someone moving a newbie's article into the user space, where the title was in some obvious way inappropriate, the person moving the article left the obviously inappropriate title intact. You continue that perfect record with this edit, where you left "Kirkwood-Buff" (with a hyphen) intact instead of changing it to "Kirkwood–Buff" (with an en-dash). I consider there is no difference between hyphen, n-dash and minus symbols. It is only a minor decorative improvement to change it. But if someone else changes those I won't change it back. So I won't consider the proposed title inappropriate. Particularly since I have only "-" on a keyboard that is what you get. In addition a typable title must be available as a redirect. Question Regarding Former Article That Was Up

There was a wikipedia page on the Band Famous that was approved back in December 2014 and it was almost up for good. I was one of at least a few Wikipedia users trying to help improve the article but some of the people that were trying to take down the Jacob Alexander Figueroa article successfully had the Band Famous wikipedia page deleted after a short discussion. I was curious if that article could be undeleted now that Jacob Alexander Figueroa is up for good and all the citations are good, that the article could then link to the Band Famous page, as he is an active member, and that would help serve to have the article stay up for improvements? I think the article just needed to be cited properly with the authors, publications, radio... The Band Famous wikipedia page didn't have the proper format in the citations, which harmed the article. I would be happy (if the article were put back up) to fix the citations so that everything is properly formatted. Maybe you or another administrator / editor who has the power to do so could take another look at the Band Famous Wikipedia page and perhaps it can be undeleted so that further improvements can be made? Doug, I was not personally calling Largoplazo anything. Largoplazo's edit was removed with that edit summary because I removed it with the edits of four other users who were working as a team adding many prods and then confirming them is a disruptive way. I should not have removed his edit with that edit summary, but what happened was that 1 edit looked to be part of the same disruptive editing pattern of the other tag bombers. F1 financial Crisis

I thank you for accepting the draft article through the AFC, but I'm confused as to why you moved it back. You mentioned the AFD that the article went through, and although there were problems in the article that was previously deleted, the issues have since been resolved. For instance, there are reliable sources which properly cite the crisis of Formula One. There is no original research because the article mentions only sources that the news sources have done. Of course, I can't copy straight from the articles, so I had to paraphrase them so that I can properly site the article. Besides, it had to look like an article and not a news report.

Another issue raised was that the crisis isn't a crisis, but something else. The original title of the article was 2014-15 F1 Financial Crisis, but editors noticed that the topic had to be time specific. So I removed the "2014-15" bit from the title. Still, I'm not sure if "crisis" is an appropriate word. What do you think would be an appropriate title for this article? Please let me know what you think. Rash move?

I don't know what the conventional standards are for moving pages from the draft space to the article space, but I have qualms about your move of Eternal dominating set on 8 March. The mathematical notation looked as if it was copied and pasted when copying and pasting non-standard formatting or characters had the effect of changing their appearance and making them illegible or at least far below usual standards. Thus we saw this line:

γ(G) ≤ m-γ∞(G) ≤ α(G)≤ γ∞(G) ≤ θ(G)

which I have changed to this:

γ(G) ≤ m − γ_∞(G) ≤ α(G) ≤ γ_∞(G) ≤ θ(G)

and this line:

γ∞(G ◻ H) ≥ γ∞(G) γ∞(H)

which I have changed to this:

$\gamma _{\infty }(G\,\Box \,H)\geq \gamma _{\infty }(G)\gamma _{\infty }(H)\,$

This second one was completely illegible. In the first, the subscripts did not appear as subscripts, the minus sign looked like a hyphen and lacked proper spacing, binary operators lacked spacing in some instances, and things that should be italicized were not.

Draft:Grounds for Coffee article was denied - help needed now

Hi Graeme and thank you for reviewing the Draft:Grounds for Coffee article. I haven't submitted drafts before so newbie here. I want to make sure though that it doesn't get deleted so that I can keep working on it and hopefully submit it again in the future. Is it good where it's at now, or do I need to move it to my userspace/sandbox? Also, are you able to in any way quantify how many more articles it would need to reference before it will become notable? Three more? Five more? I was going along the same lines of those articles which are within List of coffeehouse chains specifically if you took a quick look at Caffe Luxxe or Caffè Umbria they have very little notability, but still passed the test somehow and didn't get the speedy deletion. thanks for reviewing my Wikipedia article on the ESGI consortium. I am new here but very excited to contribute. Currently I am working my way through the different steps.

To improve this article, I was planning the following steps and I wanted to check with you beforehand whether this would be appropriate.

For one, I would add a reference link for the project to the corresponding website of the European Commission, which I would assume is a reliable source. This link is currently listed as an “External Link” (ESGI on CORDIS) but I would move it to the “Reference” section by including it right after the first paragraph (“…started its operation on 1. February 2011.”).

Furthermore, I do understand your comment that the ESGI project is not mentioned in the title or abstract of the referenced articles. The work that went into those articles was funded through the ESGI consortium and therefore, ESGI is acknowledged in those publications in their respective “Acknowledgement” sections. Unfortunately, the publications listed are not open-access and thus it is hard for an outsider to confirm this.

My idea here would be, for one, to include another sentence at the end of the current article:

“The efforts of the involved scientists led to several peer-reviewed publications, all of which acknowledge the funding through the ESGI consortium.” (or something like this)

Here, I would then reference the articles already there (as those are high-impact publications) but would also include additional open-access articles that can be checked for the mentioned acknowledgement.

Hello Graeme,

Thank you for reviewing my article about Aware IM.

This article is about a software system that has been around for more than 12 years and is used by people in more than 30 countries around the world. Not only that, but they also formed a development community that maintains its own resources to help others learn and use Aware IM.

The review comment says "references are either connected with the authors of the software, or are passing mentions". I can assure you that all the references I included into the article (except for one that is clearly marked as such) are from genuine independent Aware IM developers. They are either from people describing their own experience working with Aware IM, or their actual applications built with Aware IM, or both. They are not passing mentions. What can I do to prove the credibility of the references?

Surely Aware IM deserves no less attention than similar tools such as Filemaker, Alpha Five (database) or AppFlower, each of which has its own Wikipedia page even though their history and widespread are apparently different.

I don't understand why the page - Matt Henshaw - was deleted, the page was new, with new links and information from Europe and the UK? This was my first attempt at a wikipedia page, I spent a whole evening on it, and now I don't even know where or why it has gone?! In the log on wiki/infobeans I see that it was restored by you in March 2014. However in March 2015 it was deleted by another user. I'm Avinash Sethi co-founder of InfoBeans and would like to own and restore the page. I seek your advise on guidelines for setting up the page. Not suggesting you made the rules, just that others had a different interpretation. I see that resumes are not included in U5, though the page seemed to go beyond a resume to advertising themselves(or at least their presence on social media). You are taking this too seriously. The writer had a chance to comment, but did not do so. But I do not know if you informed them about the AFD. A certain percentage of AFCs will be nominated for deletion by people like you and get deleted. But a fair number also survive AFD. I'm watching Australian Federal Police because an LTA has used it for various campaigns, so I noticed the strange IP edit summary that you have now removed. Special:Contributions/202.61.5.22 shows that he's been doing that for a few months, and Google shows he spams it elsewhere. However, the few edits I checked were quite reasonable, so I left it. However, you might want to let him know that an edit summary like that is not suitable here. If wanted, I'll post a message, if I can follow up with you if I notice it repeated. This tool searches for text in edit summaries, but only for one user. I doubt there are any tools which search edit summaries for all users, so a search of a database dump would be needed—overkill. Johnuniq (talk) 11:44, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

I need the overkill option! I suppose it could have been on the toolserver if that was still live. Our user here has a small enough number of edits to see them all easily. I was not thinking clearly when I wrote my last comment—the most commonly used database dumps are a snapshot of current pages only, and they do not contain history or edit summaries. A dump including edit summaries would be massively large, and searching it would require a server-level computer. It's possible to do a full-text search of articles because a large index has been built to support such searches. However, there is no index of edit summaries, so a search would require examining every edit by every user, checking the edit summary, and accumulating the results—an operation that would probably take several days on a big computer. There is a tool for searching the database, but quite a lot of SQL knowledge and an understanding of the database organization would be needed. Also, I suspect they must have some method of monitoring long-runnning queries, and the run would be stopped somehow. In short, I don't know how to search edit summaries, but someone at WP:VPT would know if it is feasible. Johnuniq (talk) 01:06, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Confirming Brian Gilmartin was just a redirect as you can tell from the deletion reason. For ‎Diana Napolis, the DRV statement about administrator discretion, means that the administrator Secret had the discretion to select this kind of closure. Not that anyone has authorisation to restore. However on that topic you should address the issues raised in the AFD. Are there BLP violations? Is it a BLP1E? If the article is recreated then it would be worth having a logo for the organisation. If you actually hold the copyright on the logo, then you can make it free and release it to commons. But it was used under fair use and so cannot hang around if it is not used on an actual article. Once the User:Gpeja/Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology page is moved back to an article, I can restore the logo for you. I don't think the logo needs a different name though. Does the organisation have a new logo? If so then it can be update when there is an actual article to put it on. (In userspace we cannot use fair use images). Hi Graeme,

You deleted a page for "Pan European ICT & eBusiness Network for SME". Why did you delete this page? The organisation operates european wide and is the official representation for all SME companies in Europa. They are instructed from the EU (projects: http://www.it-sme.eu/projects/). They have the same importance than UEAPME (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEAPME). You wrote " No evidence of awards, charting or in depth coverage in independent reliable sources" as reason, but what kind of sources should I add? UEAPME for example doesn't have better sources in my eyes.
