Arbitration edit

The arbitration process is designed to deal with some of Wikipedia's toughest conduct disputes. This is in poor taste. Please refrain from making April Fools jokes on pages having to do with the Arbitration Committee or the arbitration process. On behalf of the clerks, Bradv🍁 05:59, 1 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

There's always someone. I know perfectly well what arbitration is for and is like, hence my comment there; I've been on the other end of it, a little levity during said case didn't kill me then. Wasn't planning on restoring it, though, no need to fight over it. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 06:01, 1 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thursday April 4 and Friday April 5: Translat-a-thon NYC 2019 @ LaGuardia Community College

Translat-a-thon NYC 2019 @ LaGuardia Community College is hosting the second annual Wikipedia Translatathon! At this event on Thursday evening and during the day Friday this week, anyone from the public is invited to LaGuardia to join students, professors, and CUNY faculty in translating Wikipedia articles among any languages which attendees understand. Themes for this event include public health and the history of New York City.

New York City has a large immigrant population and great diversity of speakers of various languages. Among all schools in New York City, LaGuardia has the highest percentage of immigrant students, the highest percentage of students who speak a language other than English as their first language, and the greatest representation of language diversity. It is a strength of LaGuardia that it can present "Wikipedia translatathons", which are Wikipedia translation events.

Blocked a user with no edits edit

For the user User:Grahmart, why did you block him if he has zero edits? I even checked the logs to see if he had any deleted articles, but he doesn't. Please explain to me, and keep mind that I'm kind of new-ish here. Woshiyiweizhongguoren (🇨🇳) 13:06, 9 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

You, @The Blade of the Northern Lights:, blocked my other account indefinitely @BountyBooks: for no reason when I simply asked for help in the appropriate sections. I don't know how to report you for misuse of blocking powers, but I would greatly appreciate if you unblocked me or I will be forced to dig through with how to have you dealt with. Involved while closing edit

Dear User:The Blade of the Northern Lights, your closing statement at WP:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#A_conspiracy_theory_cannot_be_false is perhaps right, perhaps wrong. But you were involved in this discussion. Therefore, you should either withdraw this closing statement, or find a non involved administrator to endorse it. Best regards. Pldx1 (talk) 07:12, 18 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Where was I involved anywhere? I've vaguely watched it unfold, but never made any comments or took any action at all even remotely related to that discussion. My rationale for closing that section stands. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 10:37, 18 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Please receive my apologies. I misread your name with one of the users who commented. This was a flat lack of competence, no conspiracy involved. Best regards. Pldx1 (talk) 18:27, 18 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Heh, no worries. Easy enough in a chaotic thread like that to lose track of who's who. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 18:37, 18 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Incidentally, I enjoyed the Peanuts reference there. I think it was Charlie Brown who commented that they never win any ball games, but they have some really interesting discussions.--WaltCip (talk) 18:15, 19 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Glad someone else got that. Yes, in one of their many in-game discussions (that specific one was about morality) he said something to that effect. I'm much younger (28) than most people who know such things, but I got a lot of exposure to Schultz as a kid and the reference seemed like too good a fit to pass up for that situation. Arbitration enforcement request - Philip Cross edit

Hi, you recently closed an enforcement request. I have opened a clarification request related to it. Could you please un-close it until there is an answer to the clarification request? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guantolaka (talkcontribs) 09:11, 27 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

So, a new editor starts an AE request with their first edit? Interesting to say the least. Doug Weller talk 09:27, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
If you read my comments in the enforcement request you will see that I sought advice from the arbitration committee by email. They suggested I make a request at AE. Not being a Wikipedia editor, I had to create a new account to do it. I hope that clears up the mystery. Guantolaka (talk) 10:41, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello edit

@EEng @JFG @DerbyCountyinNZ Well, I'm back. And if you check my talk page, you'll see all my old pals have been welcoming me with open arms.

Do any of you know much about IP addresses? I've gotten threats/abuse in the past few weeks from three different addresses that are identical except for the last three digits. I'm not worried, I'm just wondering if it's the same person or if I have more then one admirer (maybe friends?). I also do wish those edits could be blocked from view, so as to not turn my talk page into a crap-posting magnate.

Good to be editing with you all again, even if it is on a much more limited basis - I was only so active today due to a free day. And thank you to all who have sent thanks for some of my recent edits. I'm doing well after a lot of changes in my home life. Newshunter12 (talk) 08:08, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Glad to see you again! The IPs are pretty obviously the same person, exactly how rangeblocks work is outside my personal area of expertise (anyone who does know feel free to chime in). I'll take a look at the revisions in a moment here. Happy editing! The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 15:57, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Can you rush a "speedy" deletion? --woodensuperman 15:52, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
It's not a big deal; seems there was some talk of improving this beyond what was already there in draft space, so I restored it for the people willing to work on it. Nothing really unusual. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 15:54, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Why has it been restored in mainspace if, as you agree, it's not substantially different from the article that was deleted by discussion? --woodensuperman 15:55, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
It has to be restored, then moved. Had some RL issues get in the way of that, if no one has I'll take care of it myself in a moment here. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:01, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular) edit

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Revert in AfD edit

Hi! Your greeting didn't have a close tag and it caused the rest of the AfDs down the line to have tiny text. I thought it might have been misplaced, so I left an edit summary (but it was in the next article down). Year categories edit

Hello, dear Blade,

Earlier this year, we had an IP-hopping vandal who chose to change dates on ancient figures' biographies by one or two years. So, if Person X was born in 201 CE, they would change it to 203 CE, if it was said Person Z died in 168 BCE, they'd change it 169 BCE. Diabolical, really. After a few months of this, it resulted in many birth and death year categories becoming empty and appearing on the Empty Categories list all of a sudden. This kind of vandalism was hard to detect since few editors watchlisted these bio and year pages and it wasn't obvious vandalism like blanking a page or using foul language. If it wasn't so consistently random and persistent, we might never have stumbled upon it.

Which all leads me to say that after spending hours undoing this editor's vandalism from a number of IP accounts, I keep an eye out for Year categories that show up as empty. This week in the Empty categories to be deleted category, we had Category:251 births and Category:399 births and upon investigation I found you removed these categories from Anthony the Great and Narsai (and probably others I don't know about). I don't know whether this was a correct or incorrect editing decision, since I know little of ancient history and historiography. But if you remove birth and death categories from bios of these types of individuals (where history is a little fuzzy), you might consider also removing their names from the year pages, like 251 and 399 because another editor might likely replace the categories thinking it was an oversight. Just a suggestion. Thank you! Liz Read! Talk! 19:41, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Good catch, thanks for the note. I should have been on that more. I've been doing that to clear out some figures who were/are in Category:Longevity claims as part of an ongoing effort to clean up that topic area, and the source material for those specifically is not very definitive. I'll remember to check year lists going forward. Good catch, and best of luck dealing with that mess! The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 20:30, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Someone is trying to get me blocked edit

Hello, someone made a fake account with a very similar username in what I think is a clear attempt to get me blocked. I had been engaged in a dispute with TFBCT1 and someone created an account named Newshunter14 and threatened TFBCT1 right beneath the thread where TFBCT1 and I had been discussing. Could this imposter please be indefed? I think someone did this because of my recent edits about the validity of Jeanne Calment's age dispute here: Talk:List of the verified oldest people (for the record, I'm only posting this here as part of my case, not trying to canvass and no prejudice should be taken against Blade if he also wants to participate in that discussion). I touched their third rail and don't want to get blocked, so please help me sir.

On another note, how have you been, mate? Newshunter12 (talk) 15:56, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Account blocked, nothing wrong with informing an administrator about an obvious attempt at impersonation. I may take a look at the discussion, I'll make sure to approach it as a neutral to start.
As for me, I'm basically just keeping on keeping on. This topic especially is quite interesting, as a history guy there's a lot here to offer, and even IRL it's occasionally good for a bit of conversation. Hope you're well yourself, your work is awesome. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:02, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for dealing with this problem for me and for the complement. I'm getting on well myself IRL and do sometimes talk about this topic to. I'm a history guy as well. Can you guess what historically important thing happened on this date in America? In 1826, that is. Newshunter12 (talk) 16:24, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ah, yes; "Jefferson lives" were the last, mistaken words of John Adams. To lose 2 presidents and founding fathers, on this of all days. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:31, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
You got it! Do you know the one American president who was born on the 4th of July? Newshunter12 (talk) 16:43, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'll admit I had to look it up, but it's John Adams. Nice! And I feel like k should give you one now; do you know the only president who isn't a direct descendant of King John? The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:51, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Actually, it was Calvin Coolidge who was born on the Fourth of July! But good guess. Hmm, my guess was Trump but when I looked it up, its Martin van Buren. He did cross my mind, though, since he is one of the only presidents from his particular denomination, Dutch Reformed. What presidents were felled by the Curse of Tippecanoe? Newshunter12 (talk) 17:01, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ah, good one. And let's see... Harrison, Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, Harding, Franklin Roosevelt, and Kennedy (Reagan got shot, but survived). Think that's all of them. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:08, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
All correct! How about another one my way? Newshunter12 (talk) 17:10, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hmm... given my signature, this seems apropos; who was the only president that spoke fluent Chinese? The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:14, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Dear God... Jimmy Carter? Newshunter12 (talk) 17:16, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Actually, it was Herbert Hoover; he lived in Tianjin for a year as an engineer. His wife spoke some too. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:21, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Good one! Who was the president who's VP killed Alexander Hamilton? And if that one is perhaps too easy, who was the president whose VP said the vice-presidency isn't worth a bucket of warm spit? Newshunter12 (talk) 17:24, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
The first I definitely know, Aaron Burr was Jefferson's VP. The second... I know roughly it was one of the late 1800s ones, but I'm not quite sure. I would guess Grover Cleveland's? The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:45, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Correct on the first, misfired firework on the second, mate. It was one of Franklin Roosevelts VP's who gave that quote, and many scholars believe the media of the day changed his quote from p!ss to spit out of modesty. What president openly had a love child that they acknowledged was there's? Newshunter12 (talk) 18:02, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
That, I believe, would be Harding. And I'm about to take off for a while, but I'll leave you one more; who was the only president between Buchanan and Wilson who didn't have any facial hair for at least part of his presidency? The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 18:06, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Nope! It was a bit of a trick question, since the answer is Grover Cleveland. Hmm, I guess Andrew Johnson? I actually have to go soon anyway as well. Glad we were able to turn a lemon into lemonade. Newshunter12 (talk) 18:11, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ah, touche. The answer to mine is McKinley. Enjoy whatever you're out to do, and I'm glad for this as well. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 18:57, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Someone is trying to get me blocked: Part Deux edit

A London-based IP as their only Wikipedia edit reported me today for edit warring on Oldest people, but it was declined. I really am Mr. Popular on longevity pages aren't I? Some other admins are apparently investgating these matters, or at least that's what I got from here.

I think this would be the perfect time to start an RfC on limiting country lists to 25 people like we talked about before. Like JFG before us, I think the List of Italian supercentenarians would be a good place to launch the initial test RfC. Almost all the entries there have unsourced and unverifiable region of birth/death data. I recently had to remove a "young" woman because while there was proof she died, there was no specific death date available. Such a large list of overwhelmingly unnotable individuals is tedious to maintain, is acting as a free web host for GRG data (which might just be a violation of the related ARBCOM case), and is turning Wikipedia into a directory and memorial of old people. Could you please launch this RfC when you have time? I've never done it before myself. Thank you for any help you can provide! Newshunter12 (talk) 23:24, 5 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

I've put in a word at Zzuuzz's talkpage that can hopefully clarify things, and I'll hat the AN3 report. As to the RfC, I agree that seems like a logical starting point. It's been a while since I've started an RfC, but sometime this weekend I should be able to get it set up. And while it's sometimes hard to deal with trolls (I had to block my southern counterpart years ago), just remember WP:OWB#26. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 00:13, 6 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Sounds like a plan. Don't worry, I won't let trolls discourage me and I really appreciate what you said about me on Zzuuzz's talk page and helping with these matters. Your right, the more pushback I get from vandals is just more proof that what I'm doing is both right and worth it. Newshunter12 (talk) 01:21, 6 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Good. And both admins over there are good with these sorts of things, doubtless they'll find a way to tamp this down at least somewhat. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 02:25, 6 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

The escalating misconduct of the IP editor edit

Heh, I see that you saw the comment in the AfD and the discussion on BrownHairedGirl's talk page. It definitely appears that IP editor was admitting to the socking and vandalism on my talkpage and to others such as you. This definitely seems to be escalating, my friend. I'm now (if you haven't seen them already, checkout my comments on BHG's talk page) certain that this is the person who tried to hack into BHG's account both times. Just like they stalked me and created Newshunter14 to target TFBCT1 under the guise of being me while TFBCT1 and I were clashing, I'm certain they read the discussion between me and BHG, and targeted her in the hope that it blew back on me or that I would leave again. There also was that IP editor (a near identical number to ones used to vandalize my talk page and apparently trace back to London) after the first hacking attempt that followed me to EENG'S talk page to accuse me of hacking her account, and used very similar language to what they just said on BHG's page (ex. talk of me and my cronies and claims that he is the good guy). Given all we have come to know about this person, I now believe this is evidence that both hacking attempts are linked to this person.

Is it possible to bring this to another level of consequences then these infective blocks? If the above theory is correct, this person has now twice engaged in what I strongly assume are real world criminal acts and meant to be assumed to be me. Is there a way for this to be investigated on a much deeper level by experts on Wikipedia to see just who is responsible for this stuff? Now that it is affecting the real world and in all likelihood incurring real legal consequences, and not just talk page annoyance, I think it's needed before we find out just how far this person is willing to go and worst of all, in the guise of primarily my "name". Newshunter12 (talk) 04:08, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

This isn't my area of expertise, but the best I can suggest would be to keep an open line with checkusers (Zzuuzz is one). They'll be able to better figure out how to put a lid on things. I once had someone try to hack my account, I haven't had a recurrence, but definitely make sure people and especially checkusers know if someone's trying to joe job you. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 04:30, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, mate. I've contacted Zzuuzz about my concerns and will see what they have to say about this matter. Newshunter12 (talk) 05:59, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Good news - Zzuuzz agrees with me that it was without a doubt the IP editor who has been harassing all of us who was responsible for the two hacking attempts on BHG. He handed down a 2 year block and also lesser blocks onto other IP addresses this person keeps bringing out. I already struck their comment in the AfD. He recommended to be vigilant about potential trolling problems and have strong passwords. It's such a relief just knowing what happened, as I've been wondering about what really happened the first time for over seven months and about the latest stuff. Could you please keep monitoring the AfD though? The same troll has continued his harassment there and I had to revert an action of his. Newshunter12 (talk) 08:46, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Good. And yeah, I'll keep watch over things there. This guy's MO is sufficiently obvious that I doubt it'll be hard to spot if he shows up again. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 12:14, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect Deletion of page about Noor Rahman Liwal edit

Hi Blade,

I believe you have deleted the https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Noor_Rahman_Liwal&action=edit&redlink=1 for Mr. Noor Rahman Liwal with the reason as No credible indication of importance (individuals, animals, organizations, web content, events).

Mr. Noor Rahman Liwal was a presidential Candidate for 2014 [1] and once again in the upcoming 2019 Afghan Presdential Elections [2] (it is number 6 on the list, if you cannot read pashto). He is a well known personality in Afghanistan and founder of an afghan based TV Channel called Pashto TV. He was a recipient of the manthan award for the same education TV channel [3][4].

He was also a pioneer for contributing towards Pashto Language in computers. [5]

For more information, please visit https://noorrahmanliwal.com/

One should not delete a page so irresponsibly and without any significant research. Its very surprising as to how you reached a conclusion that there is no credible indication of importance for the said individual.

Please undo the deletion and take some corrective measure. Khushal khan (talk) 15:32, 27 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Carter (real estate) edit

Will you please explain why you deleted this page?

I tried to fix the errors and don't fully understand why third party news sources don't count as credible sources. Thanks.

I unreviewed as the requestor doesn't have autopatrol and so the page should have a new page review. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 03:52, 16 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
No problem. In hindsight, per AN I should've just told the editor who requested it to start a draft (even just a couple sentences), then moved it. That's my fault. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 03:54, 16 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Minor self-disclosure edit

Hi Blade. I'm curious as to why you performed this deletion, given that I had suppressed the private info some fifteen minutes before that. Best, Vanamonde (Talk) 00:18, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

The edit summary to create the page was still visible and contained some of the oversighted material, and since you'd oversighted it already it wouldn't let me revdel it. To clear it out I had to selectively delete and undelete. Ah gotcha. Yes, I did miss that, and got it when I checked back after belatedly replying to your ticket. If you would, would you undelete it now? At the moment, the publicly visible history suggests I created the page. Vanamonde (Talk) 01:47, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

RfA edit

Hi Blade. So I said the weekend but I needed more time to consider this. A few brief points: I'm immigrating to the UK from South Africa in Feb or March next year with my wife and 7 dogs so as you can imagine, quite a lot to prepare (in real-life). This may make it difficult for me to focus the requirements of carrying the mop which rightfully must be a serious commitment. I also think I need to get more experience in non main space areas that an admin probably should be familiar with, just not sure what area yet. So, I'm not saying no, I'm taking care of real life first. Once I'm settled there and once I'm feeling more comfortable with the prospect of a RfA I'll make contact with you and see whether you still think I'm an editor worthy of being entrusted with the tools of an administrator. Again, thank you for considering me and for your kind words on my talk page last week. Robvanvee 16:18, 25 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hey. First of all, good luck to all of you with the move; that's sure quite a commitment! And that's absolutely fine, I'll be around whenever you feel you're ready. Until then, don't hesitate to give me a shout about any questions or actions you need done. And always happy to make someone's day a little better. User:DumbassGuy edit

Okay, enlighten me. Sure, a stupid user name (which sadly is allowed) and a stupid edit summary. But how is putting the name of a middle school on a user page make someone a vandalism only account? There's clearly something I'm missing here. ----Fabrictramp | talk to me 03:41, 28 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

The edit summary to create said userpage was, in its entirety, "Shit". That... is generally not indicative of someone speaking well of something, nor is it typically a sign of someone here to be constructive. I'm certainly open to a review of this block, for sure, I've certainly been wrong before. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 04:01, 28 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Done. And you can revert the edit as you see fit, of course. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:39, 5 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I will leave the edit in place since it itself is correct. Find-a-grave is not a reliable source and a claimed YouTube video of her does nothing either. At least we got something good out of this latest trolling! On a side note, I once saw a news video about the oldest worker in America, where he had gotten his tombstone in advance and had it placed in the cemetery. It had xxxx-19 filled out because that's when he thought he would go, but he lived into the 21st century and joked to the reporter he would let someone else worry about it. Pictures of tombstones on self-published sites don't mean anything. Newshunter12 (talk) 16:52, 5 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Heh, true. And while certainly random pictures are useless, that sure is quite a story. Wow. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:55, 5 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Could you please add page protection to List of the oldest living people? The troll returned and undid their edit. Best to just nip the problem in the bud until after the situation at ANI is resolved. Here is the short video about the old man. Newshunter12 (talk) 17:04, 5 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Gave it 3 days, hopefully that'll be sufficient, and I'll watch the talkpage too. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:34, 5 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Could you please give extended protection (for a period of weeks or months) to List of the oldest living people? The troll keeps vandalizing the article and it's fairly rare that an IP makes a constructive edit either. Is it also possible you could kindly re-protect my talk page and make that permanent? That person keeps posting stuff there and it's incredibly rare I have a constructive IP post at my talk. I wouldn't be missing anything. Thank you for any help you can provide. Newshunter12 (talk) 18:31, 12 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

I’m concerned with your response on the board regarding a current situation between myself and Newshunter12. I’m wondering why you’re so easily swayed not to be my advocate? Excuse me edit

Please go back and re-read that whole section. I didn't call anyone anything. I was quoting! Hence the green "TQ" (talk quote) text. I was telling one user that it wasn't good to accuse another person of Behaving like a stroppy child. I don't like to argue with people, but neither do I like being accused of doing something I didn't do. Thank you for your time. — Ched (talk) 16:38, 9 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

And done. Now that I think more, I'm pretty sure I was addressing the first response to the OP ("as an admin" meant "comment from an admin") but it was so ambiguously written (and I honestly don't remember what I was thinking for sure) that it's better off not being part of the archive. Don't want anyone getting the wrong idea, you did nothing wrong in that conversation. Thanks for bringing it to me, and hope all goes well editing from here. User isn't getting the hint edit

There is a new user editing this page. Per WP:DUCK, I strongly suspect it's the same as the previous editor you blocked recently for username issues. Please consider applying temporary semi-protection to the page until the end of May (per this), soft-blocking the new user, and sternly warning the user about COI, Paid Editing, usernames which imply shared use, and usernames which are about companies.

Now, I could be wrong about the shared use - it is remotely possible that this person chose the username because the first two letters are his or her initials and the 4-digit number is the date the person expects to graduate from high school, but that is extremely unlikely. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 15:18, 12 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Would you be willing to restore this user's sandbox? edit

Hi there,

I am a teaching assistant for a university in Canada. Currently, I am working with a class of students who, for an assignment, are learning how to edit Wikipedia articles. Part of the project includes editing a Wikipedia page in their sandbox, submitting the of the sandbox to the professor and I, receiving critiques, and making changes. We are only encouraging the students to officially add their changes to the corresponding Wikipedia pages if their articles are of "good" standard or higher. All of the content from the sandboxes is expected to be deleted after the assignment is due.

Yesterday, you deleted the sandbox of one of my students, User:Skippingpandas. I recognize that there were significant issues with this page revealing around neutrality. However, they were to receive critique today and were expected to make changes. Based on that reasoning, would you be willing to restore their sandbox?

Thanks so much in advance. AlienvsEditor (talk) 16:04, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Assistance with Japanese sources edit

Hi Blade, I'm wondering if you could help me find a couple of sources that, if they exist, are in Japanese. I'm writing a biography on Fumio Tajima, the Japanese population geneticist. English sources provide scant biographical detail; I'm hoping there's something with basic biographical info (DOB, alma mater, positions held, etc) on a University website or some such, but I'm struggling to find it. Any other sources would be a nice bonus, but this is really what I need (I don't even have his DOB). I'd appreciate help; no worries if you're busy, though. Vanamonde (Talk) 21:01, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hey, sorry to take so long to reply; my life has been absolutely crazy. I can take a look, and I certainly hope I can help, but my Japanese is beyond rusty these days. For someone better than me, I know Hijiri88 is good with Japanese and may be able to help too. Will let you know if I find anything. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 03:42, 2 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Please take your time, no rush. A request at Wikiproject Japan helped me find one summary of positions held that was quite useful, so it's not utterly lacking in biography at the moment; anything more would be greatly appreciated, but no pressure at all. Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice edit

Hi The Blade of the Northern Lights, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

Hello, could you revert your edit to the Main Page where you removed the space in the templatestyle tag.
