References in leads

Hi there - thanks for making this edit to Coxton Tower earlier. I dropped by because I wanted to explain why I've reverted it, just for your future reference.

As explained at WP:LEADCITE, citations are not required in the lead section of an article if the lead is summarising sourced information in the body of the article. (In practice, they're actually discouraged, to make the lead easier to read.) In this case, the assertion defining Coxton as a tower house in Moray is repeated in the first sentence of the 'description' section, and is cited to a very reliable source (a Pevsner guide), so it doesn't need to be supporting with any further refs; also, the ref you added (the Castles of Scotland website) is not really a reliable source. It's a great website, I personally find it interesting and well-written, but it's a blog - it's run by a single person with no editorial oversight - so we shouldn't use it, especially when better sources are available to support the content.

I hope that makes sense - seriously, thanks for taking an interest in the article and for trying to help out, I just wanted to explain to you why I undid your work. Cheers GirthSummit _(blether) 23:37, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello Marnie Hawes. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Hi! NatGertler, I found you very cooperative to correct me every time I made mistakes. I really appreciate your help and I am extremely sorry for my mistakes. One more thing, what I added today was some information about Roque's son Ricardo from an already added source(Orlando Weekly)on that article. I reused the reference for that piece of information. Another one, about the banks: I found it on Wikinews. I thought it was a reliable source. Believe me, I was waiting for your corrections. :) Thanks for supervising me.

I hope an explanation will make it clear about my Paid contributions. I added that paid disclosure when I was supposed to get paid for an article. But unfortunately, that one was deleted. The client disagreed to pay for it. So, I didn't get any payment. I am willing to remove the paid disclosure because I am making contributions voluntarily since then. I am not involved in Black Hat or any strategies which can threaten my existence on Wikipedia. I made mistakes, I know that. But, I would like to learn from my mistakes.

My edits on Roque De la Fuente are not paid. I became curious about Mr. De La Fuente after I heard about him from one of my Friend "Hafiz" living in Arizona. I was not familiar with that name before. His career made me curious about him. So, whenever I find something about him I check if that info is included on his page or not. My intention was not to promote him. My intention is to add more values to existing articles or creating articles on people or topics that meet the notability criteria of Wikipedia.

One more thing, I was looking for adoption. Is there any opportunity to get adopted for any sort of voluntary work like adding sources or information on any Wikiproject? I would like to help. Even if your client didn't end up keeping their end of the bargain, your "I'm a paid editor" disclosure should include the identity of your client and what article you were editing for them (even if it doesn't now exist). Otherwise, you're saying "I'm a paid editor but I'm not telling you who for or where", and the default assumption is that any edit of yours is likely to be paid for - particularly if the edit seems a bit promotional. So please edit your user page to include that information.

The problem with the statement about Rocky's son was not with the sourcing, or even with the fact that it was in the article - it was where in the article it was. You put it in the section on Rocky's 2020 presidential campaign, and there was no sign that Ricky's 2018 candidacy had any relevancy to that section. Had there been a section of "Personal life", which is normally where we list things like spouses and children, you could put it there. (I was editing on a tablet at the moment, which is an awkward editor for trying to add a section with.)

Another edit that you did around the same time, which I have not yet tried to address, is deleting an online reference because that page was no longer on the Internet. While that is an understandable instinct, we actually have better ways to deal with that in most cases... when you take away a reference, it often leaves information unreferenced, and there are usually ways to get a copy of a missing webpage. I am not looking to adopt - really, at the moment, I'm looking for less responsibility in my life, not more! And I haven't really dealt with the adoption process. You might check out Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user/Adoptee's Area to see if that would help you on your quest. @Nemo bis: The phrase has no significance under copyright law; it is a phrase used in some license grants. Most journal publishers allow their authors to publish the author's article on a website that the author controls. So Tarjan could put his paper on his own website or on his employer's website. Professors often supply copies of their journal articles on their university's website. The link in question is in the personal directory of a university website, but it is not the personal directory of one of the authors. Instead, it is a paper supplied for a course by a teacher; there is no license to publish. Glrx (talk) 02:06, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

For a specific example, see ACM Copyright Policy §2.5 bullet 4, which grants the author the right to "Post the Accepted Version of the Work on (1) the Author's home page, (2) the Owner's institutional repository, (3) any repository legally mandated by an agency funding the research on which the Work is based, and (4) any non-commercial repository or aggregation that does not duplicate ACM tables of contents, i.e., whose patterns of links do not substantially duplicate an ACM-copyrighted volume or issue." The right to post on a non-commercial repository is a less common grant. It is the author's right to post the work; the grant does not allow others to post the author's works on university websites or other repositories.

• 24-hr WP:BRD cycle: If a change you make to this article is reverted, you may not reinstate that change unless you discuss the issue on the talk page and wait 24 hours (from the time of the original edit). Partial reverts/reinstatements that reasonably address objections of other editors are preferable to wholesale reverts.

Guidelines for paid editors

You have disclosed your situation as a paid editor, as you should, so that is good. In addition to the restrictions on all editors, which I described above, you are also subject to the guidelines for paid editing. Those guidelines are summarized at WP:Conflict of interest. They are summarized as follows:

• Paid editing is further regulated by a community guideline, Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. This advises that those with a conflict of interest, including paid editors, are very strongly discouraged from directly editing affected articles, but should post content proposals on the talk pages of existing articles, and should put new articles through the articles for creation process, so they can be reviewed prior to being published.

What this says is that you should NOT post directly to the article in ways that benefit your employer. Instead, you should suggest your proposed edits on the talk page, and if they are accepted, someone else will add them to the article. Agreed, which is the reason I added the Paid Contributor notice to the only relevant page she's edited since she was pointed to the guidelines. • What made you think I am male, I am from Pakistan?

• Does creating a biography article means I am creating it in exchange of money?
• Isn't it possible to work as a volunteer on some specific task and later get some sources to get paid for what you were doing as a volunteer?
• Is that really logical to ignore some senior editors arrogance who denied a truth and support him?
• How did I added spam link? Isn't forbes a reliable source?
• How did you confirm that my sister is me and she is also male and from Pakistan?

Pseudonyms are not illegal at Wikipedia. My mistake; I misremembered and said Pakistan instead of Bangladesh. As for saying you were probably male, when I know you claim to be female, that was just a guess based on my overall impression of you and your work here, and it was not part of the decision to block you. I researched and reported your past edits, and I concur with MER-C’s interpretation that the articles you created were likely paid. It says right below in the notice boxes why you are blocked from editing. It is also described at the ANI noticeboard. Out administrators do not really have time to walk you through it individually, answering ten (!) questions-- they have other things to do, basically. If you want to appeal your blocks, you can follow the instructions below. this is how it works here. You break the rules, you get blocked. But you can appeal per the process below. Dear @MER-C:, I completely understand that, you are not here to read policies for me. I haven't violated any policy so you don't need to. You guessed and blocked me. Everything I posted was with references and truth from reliable sources. I added an update, @NatGertler: undid my revision,later he told me to update it myself. Then he accused, I made him rework. Really? I just used the same information Tampa Bay News Published. He said, the paper published misleading news and he also denied some government sits reference and some popular news references too. Someone argued with him on this, he continuously denied to accept the truth and asked him to complain about him. I added an update from Federal Election Commission. Then, @MelanieN: started with I violated COI policy and all these things ended up blocking my editing privilege. How did I violated policy? I haven't advertised or promoted anything. I haven't undid anyone's edit. And yes, I used talk page to discuss too! Any of my edits which were undid I didn't redo it. I didn't added any spam link in my knowledge. None of the articles you have deleted were paid articles. Everyone makes mistakes and learn from it. I didn't get paid for Josh Rimer too. I disclosed paid contributions where I expected to get paid or getting paid. How can you guys humiliate me saying I am male and I am from Pakistan? What was the point to add this into the discussion?
