Ancestry

Hope you are well and that life is treating you good. Are you still processing these applications? Mine says "No applications were made in last 90 days by the applicant", except that I asked for it to be extended earlier this month when it no longer allowed me to access records. I can search, but cannot "view" any results of a search, thus I assume it has expired (or they've changed access for Mexico, as I recently keep being directed to ancestry.mx, rather than .com)? Hi @SusunW, I'm well, thanks for asking and I hope you are too. Yeah I am, but I fear I'm somewhat in a holding pattern-- I have no more ancestry accounts to assign and we're waiting to hear back from them. Looking at my interface, I don't see your request (for extension) at all, and I'm not sure what's going on with that. Doing well other than that the 2 years of isolation is becoming old. With this Omicron, I'm thinking it'll probably extend into year three. Thanks for your help. You (and everyone else on here) knows I am not technical, but I just pressed the "extend" button when it wouldn't allow me to access info after a search. It was probably 10 days ago. • Hello Eddie. May I pile on with my own Ancestry issue? I noticed a week or two ago that I too no longer had Ancestry access, though my account works. I clicked on "extend." At that time I decided to change my password, and guess what? I lost my new password! I cannot get access because Ancestry does not have my email address. So that's where that stands, two issues, one a stupid one of my own creation and the other being the "not able to extend" issue that was noted by others. • Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee Elections is open until 23:59, 06 December 2021 (UTC).
• The already authorized standard discretionary sanctions for all pages relating to the Horn of Africa (defined as including Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and adjoining areas if involved in related disputes), broadly construed, have been made permanent.

• Wikipedia:User scripts/Ranking is a sortable table of Wikipedia's thousand-or-so most commonly used scripts; it includes their author, last modification date, installation count, and sometimes a short description.
• Toolhub is a community managed catalog of software tools used in the Wikimedia movement. Technical volunteers can use Toolhub to document the tools that they create or maintain. All Wikimedians can use Toolhub to search for tools to help with their workflows and to create lists of useful tools to share with others.

New scripts

• Ahecht:
  • draft-sorter sorts AfC drafts by adding WikiProject banners to their talk pages. It supersedes User:Enterprisey/draft-sorter, adding a few features and fixing some bugs.
  • massmove, a modified User:Plastikspork/massmove.js that adds a link to the left column, allows adding and removing both prefixes and suffixes.
  • watchlistcleaner removes missing pages (redlinks), redirects, pages you haven't edited recently, and/or pages you've never edited from your watchlist.
• Awesome Aasim:
  • Infiniscroll adds infinite scrolling to user contributions, page histories, and log pages.
  • Quick create allows for the fast creation of red-linked pages with two clicks.
• Caburum:
  • UTCclock adds a clock displaying the current UTC time.
• Chlod:
  • CopiedTemplateEditor, mainly for CCI case handlers, allows graphically editing a talk page's {{copied}} templates.
• DaxServer:
  • BooksToSfn adds a portlet link in Visual Editor's source mode editing, in main namespace articles or in the user's Sandbox. When clicked, it converts one {{cite book}} inside a <ref>...</ref> tag block into an {{Sfn}}.
• FlightTime:
  • OneClickArchiver is a custom version of User:Technical_13/Scripts/OneClickArchiver which doesn't prepend {{Clear}} to the top of each section on the archive page.
• Jon Harald Søby:
  • diffedit enables editing directly from viewing a diff "when, for instance, you notice a tiny mistake deep into an article, and don't want to edit the entire article and re-find that one line to fix that tiny mistake".
  • warnOnLargeFile warns you if you're about to open a very large file (width/height >10,000px or file size >100 MB) from a file page.
• JPxG:
  • PressPass adds a collection of tools for Newspapers.com including configurable automatic citation generation in five different formats.
  • CurrentSwitcher gives you links on the contribs page to hide duplicate entries, current revisions, rollbacks, huggles, twinkles, and redwarns.
  • TrackSum lets you automatically sum the lengths of tracks in templates like {{track listing}} and get total runtimes.
• Nardog:
  • CopySectLink adds a button to copy the unencoded page title or section path next to each heading.
  • IPAInput allows you to type in IPA symbols by directly looking at an IPA key like Help:IPA/English and clicking on the symbols.
  • TemplatePreviewGuard warns when you try to use "Preview page with this template" with a page that doesn't transclude the template.
• NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh:
  • ContribsTabVector adds "Contributions" and "Statistics" tabs to user and user talk pages on the Vector skin.
  • CopyvioChecker adds a "CopyvioCheck" tab to all pages, except Special (Vector skin only).
  • LiveDiffLink is a version of Equazcion's LiveDiffLink which shows a wikilink instead of a URL.
  • QuickDiff (by OneTwoThreeFall at Fandom) lets you quickly view any diff link on a wiki, whether on Recent Changes, contribs pages, history pages, the diff view itself, or elsewhere. For more information, view its page on Fandom.
• Novem Linguae:
  • DetectSNG scans a list of 1,600 SNG keywords and displays them at the top of the article.
  • NotSoFast highlights recently created articles in the new pages feed, to discourage patrolling them too quickly.
  • UserRightsDiff concisely displays what perm was added or removed when viewing Special:UserRights.
  • VoteCounter displays a rough count of keeps and deletes at XFDs, RFCs, etc.
  • WatchlistAFD automatically watchlists the AFDs of any pages you AFC accept or NPP patrol, to help you calibrate your reviewing.
• P.T.Đ:
  • TwinkleMobile enables Twinkle on mobile view (Minerva skin).
• Qwerfjkl:
  • editRedirect adds a → link after redirects to edit them.
  • RegExTypoFix, a script for fixing typos, is a wrapper for User:Joeytje50/RETF.js.
  • talkback creates links after user talk page links like this: |C|TB (with the first linking to the user's contributions, and the latter giving the option of sending a {{talkback}} notice). It also adds a [copy] link next to section headers.
• Rublov:
  • diff-link shows "copy" links on history and contributions pages that copy an internal link to the diff (e.g., Special:Diff/1026402230) to your clipboard when clicked.
• Rummskartoffel:
  • auto-watchlist-expiry automatically watchlists every page you edit for a user-definable duration (you can still pick a different time using the dropdown, though).
  • generate pings generates the wikitext needed to ping all members of a category, up to 50 editors (the limit defined by MediaWiki).
  • share ExpandTemplates url allows for easy sharing of your inputs to Special:ExpandTemplates. It adds a button that, when clicked, copies a shareable URL to your exact invocation of the page, like this. Other editors do not need to have this script installed in order to access the URL generated.
  • show tag names shows the real names of tags next to their display names in places such as page revision histories or the watchlist.
• Tol:
  • VisualEditor Citation Needed adds a button (under "Insert") in VisualEditor to add a {{citation needed}} tag.
• Venkat TL:
  • ColourContrib color-codes the user contributions page so that pages you've edited last are sharply distinguished from pages where another editor was the last to edit the page.
• Vukky:
  • StatusChanger is a fork of Enterprisey's Status Changer, which adds a UI to the script. (using Morebits, so you'll need to have Twinkle enabled to use it).

All in all, some very neat scripts were written in these last few months. RFA 2021 Completed

The 2021 re-examination of RFA has been completed. 23 (plus 2 variants) ideas were proposed. Over 200 editors participated in this final phase. Three changes gained consensus and two proposals were identified by the closers as having the potential to gain consensus with some further discussion and iteration. Thanks to all who helped to close the discussion, and in particular Primefac, Lee Vilenski, and Ymblanter for closing the most difficult conversations and for TonyBallioni for closing the review of one of the closes.

The following proposals gained consensus and have all been implemented:

1. Revision of standard question 1 to Why are you interested in becoming an administrator? Special thanks to xaosflux for help with implementation.
2. A new process, Administrative Action Review (XRV) designed to review if an editor's specific use of an advanced permission, including the admin tools, is consistent with policy in a process similar to that of deletion review and move review. Guideline and policy news

• Following consensus at the 2021 RfA review, the autopatrolled user right has been removed from the administrators user group; admins can grant themselves the autopatrolled permission if they wish to remain autopatrolled.

• Additionally, consensus for proposal 6C of the 2021 RfA review has led to the creation of an administrative action review process. The purpose of this process will be to review individual administrator actions and individual actions taken by users holding advanced permissions.

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

citation template

What is the citation template, and why does it make a difference whether I use it or I list books more straightforwardly? When I see books listed in the citation template form, I don't know how to link their authors to their Wikipedia entries.Maurice Magnus (talk) 22:23, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

@Maurice Magnus, first of all, thanks a lot for your efforts cleaning up these citations! The main benefit of using a citation template is that it exports citations in a consistent form. This article also uses {{sfn}} citations, which provide a direct link to the full reference so users can easily find them in the bibliography. Without the citation templates, this doesn't work. while there is no requirement to use the templates, wikipedia guidelines suggest being consistent within an article. For an explanation of what templates are, I'd suggest giving this page a read-through.

To link to an author's article, simply add the code |author-link=the article you want to link to to the citation template. For instance, the template for Epstein's Lincoln and Whitman without an author link looks like {{Cite book|last=Epstein|first=Daniel Mark|title=Lincoln and Whitman: Parallel Lives in Civil War Washington|date=2004|publisher=Ballantine Books|isbn=0-345-45799-4|edition=1st|location=New York|pages=|oclc=52980509}}, generating: Epstein, Daniel Mark (2004). Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pyranol makes multiple references to a previous discussion on the article's talkpage. With consensus-close as "delete", we no longer have that talkpage. Would it be reasonable to copy–paste it into a box on the AFD so the discussion is actually accessible? I think it should be copy-pasted not hist-merged, because it was all before the AFD not merely mis-placed AFD content. The article/talk is referenced from a wikiproject notice, so it might be confusing if it got "actually moved" somewhere else. I weakly lean towards placing it on the AFD page rather than the AFD-talk, because to me it seems like it is first-class AFD-discussion material rather than discussion about the AFD (again, it pre-dates it), but that also depends how you as closer feel the article-talk content elates. Hi, @SpreeEg, articles on companies must meet Wikipedia's general notability guideline, meaning that it has been the subject of substantial coverage in independent, reliable sources. I'd recommend having a read of the guidelines I just linked for more context. Corporations are specifically held to a higher notability guideline, readable at WP:NCORP, one of the main aspects of which requires that the coverage go beyond routine reporting and local reporting. If your company meets those criteria, it is eligible for an article. However, you should not be the person writing this article. having a conflict of interest must be disclosed (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#howtodisclose for how to do so) and having a close connection renders the author largely incapable of writing from Wikipedia's neutral point of view. I would suggest giving our plain and simple conflict of interest guide a thorough read for some more context. Hopefully this is helpful. Good question, @Jupiter88888888! You are correct that we do not consider Wikipedia to be a reliable source. This is not against Wikipedia, per se, but because Wikipedia is written by (largely) anonymous users, meaning that it is prone to errors and vandalism. We even have an article that lists such mistakes. If something is true, there should be a reliable source attesting to that, meaning that it will never be necessary to cite Wikipedia. Krishnajannu69, such articles are created in great numbers and are almost without exception deleted here. I recommend that you ask at Wikipedia:Teahouse to find out what the prospects are for your content. • The Universal Code of Conduct enforcement guidelines have been published for consideration. Voting to ratify this guideline is planned to take place 7 March to 21 March. Comments can be made on the talk page.

Technical news

• The user group oversight will be renamed suppress in around 3 weeks. This will not affect the name shown to users and is simply a change in the technical name of the user group. The change is being made for technical reasons. You can comment in Phabricator if you have objections.
• The Reply Tool feature, which is a part of Discussion Tools, will be opt-out for everyone logged in or logged out starting 7 February 2022. Editors wishing to comment on this can do so in the relevant Village Pump discussion.

Arbitration

• Community input is requested on several motions aimed at addressing discretionary sanctions that are no longer needed or overly broad.

WikiCup 2022 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the WikiCup. Last year anyone who scored more than zero points moved on to Round 2, but this was not the case this year, and a score of 13 or more was required to proceed. The top scorers in Round 1 were:

• Epicgenius, a finalist last year, who led the field with 1906 points, gained from 32 GAs and 19 DYKs, all on the topic of New York buildings.
• AryKun, new to the contest, was second with 1588 points, having achieved 2 FAs, 11 GAs and various other submissions, mostly on the subject of birds.
• Bloom6132, a WikiCup veteran, was in third place with 682 points, garnered from 51 In the news items and several DYKs.
• GhostRiver was close behind with 679 points, gained from achieving 12 GAs, mostly on ice hockey players, and 35 GARs.
• Kavyansh.Singh was in fifth place with 551 points, with an FA, a FL, and many reviews.
• SounderBruce was next with 454 points, gained from an FA and various other submissions, mostly on United States highways.
• Ktin, another WikiCup veteran, was in seventh place with 412 points, mostly gained from In the news items.

These contestants, like all the others who qualified for Round 2, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews of a large number of good articles as the contest ran concurrently with a GAN backlog drive. Well done all! To qualify for Round 3, contestants will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two participants.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Anything that should have been claimed for in Round 1 is no longer eligible for points. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

WikiCup 2022 May newsletter

The second round of the 2022 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 115 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top seven contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 11 featured articles and the 79 good articles achieved in total by contestants.

The rules for featured and good article reviews require the review to be of sufficient length; brief quick fails and very short reviews will generally not be awarded points. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

Hi @Thabomsampha, the first thing to know is that conflict of interest editing is rather discouraged and if you do decide to engage in such there are some specific guidelines it's worth remembering to follow (I'd suggest reading this guide), namely that you must be transparent about your editing. For an article to exist on a subject, it should meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines, meaning that the subject has been the subject of multiple, in depth independent and reliable articles. google hits alone is not sufficient to indicate notability. New administrator activity requirement

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

• The ability to undelete the associated talk page when undeleting a page has been added. This was the 11th wish of the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey.
• A public status system for WMF wikis has been created. It is located at https://www.wikimediastatus.net/ and is hosted separately to WMF wikis so in the case of an outage it will remain viewable.

Arbitration

• Remedy 2 of the St Christopher case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to place a ban on single-purpose accounts who were disruptively editing on the article St Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine or related pages from those pages.

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

Hello Eddie891,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 816 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 858 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

Technical news

• Administrators using the mobile web interface can now access Special:Block directly from user pages. (T307341)
• The IP Info feature has been deployed to all wikis as a Beta Feature. Any autoconfirmed user may enable the feature using the "IP info" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features. Autoconfirmed users will be able to access basic information about an IP address that includes the country and connection method. Those with advanced privileges (admin, bureaucrat, checkuser) will have access to extra information that includes the Internet Service Provider and more specific location.

Arbitration

• Remedy 2 of the Rachel Marsden case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to delete or reduce to a stub, together with their talk pages, articles related to Rachel Marsden when they violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy.

Hello Eddie891,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000 at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Editathon event in July 2022!

Running from July 1 to 31, 2022, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) editathon event focused on the topic of women and the environment. Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works during the event period (with an emphasis on environmental links and topics). GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to receive a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

WikiCup 2022 July newsletter

The third round of the 2022 WikiCup has now come to an end. Each of the sixteen contestants who made it into the fourth round had at least 180 points, which is a lower figure than last year when 294 points were needed to progress to round 4. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

• BennyOnTheLoose, with 746 points, a tally built both on snooker and other sports topics, and on more general subjects.
• Bloom6132, with 683 points, garnered mostly from "In the news" items and related DYKs.
• Sammi Brie, with 527, from a variety of submissions related to radio and television stations.

Between them contestants achieved 5 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 51 good articles, 149 DYK entries, 68 ITN entries, and 109 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.

• An RfC has been closed with consensus to add javascript that will show edit notices for editors editing via a mobile device. This only works for users using a mobile browser, so iOS app editors will still not be able to see edit notices.
• An RfC has been closed with the consensus that train stations are not inherently notable.

Technical news

• The Wikimania 2022 Hackathon will take place virtually from 11 August to 14 August.
• Administrators will now see links on user pages for "Change block" and "Unblock user" instead of just "Block user" if the user is already blocked. (T308570)

• The arbitration case request Geschichte has been automatically closed after a 3 month suspension of the case.

Miscellaneous

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello Eddie891,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination

MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.

Open letter to the WMF

The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.

TIP - Reviewing by subject

Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.

New reviewers

The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

WikiCup 2022 September newsletter

The fourth round of the WikiCup has now finished. 383 points were required to reach the final, and the new round has got off to a flying start with all finalists already scoring. In round 4, Bloom6132 with 939 points was the highest points-scorer, with a combination of DYKs and In the news items, followed by BennyOnTheLoose, Sammi Brie and Lee Vilenski. The points of all contestants are swept away as we start afresh for the final round.

At this stage, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. For the remaining competitors, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them, and importantly, before the deadline on October 31st!

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Editathon event in October 2022!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2022, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) editathon event – Wildcard Edition! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to any and all women and women's works during the event period. Want to improve an article about a Bollywood actress? Go for it. A pioneering female scientist? Absolutely. An award-winning autobiography by a woman? Yes! GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to receive a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

Memoirs

I've added the main passage from Decision in the West to your draft. There's a couple others I remember reading in there, but I'm about 400 pages into the 572 page book, and there's just no way I'm going to find the other specific passages. Thanks, Hog Farm looks great! I will endeavor to get through the sources I've accumulated during this week and get the article mainspaced. I just found and checked out The Generals' Civil War: What Their Memoirs Can Teach Us Today [1] which looks promising. I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth including every single general he critiqued and innacurate retelling of events the secondary sources mention -- there are a lot, so probably not, but it's a question then of where to draw the line. Voting for the upcoming project coordinator election closes soon, at 23:59 on 28 September. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next coordination year. Guideline and policy news

• Following an RfC, consensus was found that if the rationale for a block depends on information that is not available to all administrators, that information should be sent to the Arbitration Committee, a checkuser or an oversighter for action (as applicable, per ArbCom's recent updated guidance) instead of the administrator making the block.
• Following an RfC, consensus has been found that, in the context of politics and science, the reliability of FoxNews.com is unclear and that additional considerations apply to its use.
• Community comment on the revised Universal Code of Conduct enforcement guidelines is requested until 8 October.

Technical news

• The Articles for creation helper script now automatically recognises administrator accounts which means your name does not need to be listed at WP:AFCP to help out. If you wish to help out at AFC, enable AFCH by navigating to Preferences → Gadgets and checking the "Yet Another AfC Helper Script" box.

Arbitration

• Remedy 8.1 of the Muhammad images case will be rescinded 1 November following a motion.
• A modification to the deletion RfC remedy in the Conduct in deletion-related editing case has been made to reaffirm the independence of the RfC and allow the moderators to split the RfC in two.
• The second phase of the 2021-22 Discretionary Sanctions Review closes 3 October.

Miscellaneous

• An administrator's account was recently compromised. Administrators are encouraged to check that their passwords are secure, and reminded that ArbCom reserves the right to not restore adminship in cases of poor account security. You can also use two-factor authentication (2FA) to provide an extra level of security.
• Self-nominations for the electoral commission for the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections open 2 October and close 8 October.
• You are invited to comment on candidates in the 2022 CUOS appointments process.

Thoughts?

Was perusing Category:American Civil War stubs and came across Wyoming in the American Civil War. Given that Wyoming didn't exist even in territory form at the time of the war, and given the fact that anything that happened in that region was really the Indian Wars, not the Civil War, I'm convinced this should exist. Any thoughts? Also dubious about USS Watauga, although that's a bit more specialist Hog Farm _Talk 02:55, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

@Hog Farm, I'm inclined to agree. Certainly not in the form it currently is-- the prose that just doesn't make sense and there isn't room to expand it into a real article. While the DAB page it was originally created as is slightly more defensible, it still doesn't seem to me to make sense, because as you say, Wyoming wasn't even a territory. We wouldn't, for instance, have West Virginia in the American Revolution... Eddie891 ^Talk _Work 13:26, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi, @SergeyDC80, the article was deleted as a result of the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/North Sea Gas (band), where users felt it did not meet the general notability guideline or the band notability threshold. For a topic to be notable enough for an article, it must have received significant coverage in independent, reliable sources, which the !voters felt that this band had not. If this still doesn't make sense, I'd suggest having a read of Wikipedia:Introduction to deletion process. If you feel there is information that was not raised in the discussion that would justify recreation of the page, let me know or file a deletion review request.
