Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators. All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:48, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Inactivity

This project seems to be very inactive. It also has a scope of only 380 articles. It would seem that this Project should either become a task force of another project, or merge with an existing project. WP:Adventure Travel is also pretty dead, so I don't think that will help improve contributions. I recommend transferring to a task force of WP:Countries, WP:Geography, or even WP:Transport. Please leave comments/suggestions. Andyo2000 (talk) 16:39, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi- I know, I've been doing some work on it lately, w/o much help. It could fall under the Econ or Business WPs also, don't know where the best place to put it would be! Maybe either Geography or Transport, since the field is often called "Travel and Transportation" or "Travel and Tourism"? --Funandtrvl (talk) 17:06, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
There's also a few more semi-active projects at Category:Travel WikiProjects. --Funandtrvl (talk) 17:11, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
I recently posted proposals at WP:Hotels, WP:Adventure Travel, and WP:Vacations for those three to become task forces of this WikiProject. However... this WP seems fairly dead as well. If we merged those three and perhaps WP:Amusement Parks into this WP, I would be content to wait and see if it becomes active (with the merging of all 5 projects, maybe more editors will join/contribute?). Andyo2000 (talk) 03:22, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Because WP:Amusement Parks is a lot more active, (it includes the Disney parks), I wouldn't merge that into this one, because they have several descendant projects already and they seem to be more geared to theme parks, zoos & circuses. Since the category that this project falls under is "Travel" WPs, this particular project should probably be renamed to: WP:WikiProject Travel and Tourism. Then it makes sense to have hotels, vacations, adventure travel and tourism under the same banner, because of the overlapping contents. Although, "hotels" falls more into the "Hospitality" category, but I don't see a Hospitality WP, other than the Foodservice TF of F&D. --Funandtrvl (talk) 05:56, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Roger on the WP:Amusement Parks activity - didn't check it. No one has yet commented on any of the other project talk pages. I agree, with minor change, that this WP should be merged with WP:Travel. At the very least, become a task force. If merged, the other three can become task forces, otherwise, they will become task forces directly under WP:Travel. Andyo2000 (talk) 20:59, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

As there has been no opposition, I plan to move rename this page in 24 hours to WP:Travel and Tourism. This may be a flexible target - I may not be free. However, this includes redirecting renaming Template:WikiProject Tourism to the WP:Travel project banner. It may or may not have its own importance category. The main project page will be moved to a subpage of WP:Travel. The now-task force page will be edited to reflect the new status (TF vice WP). If there are any dissenting opinions, please write them per WP:Consensus. Andyo2000 (talk) 03:32, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

  1. First of all, you should allow at least 7 days for editors to respond, not everyone signs on everyday. Also, merge to and merge from templates, etc., should be placed on all the pages involved, right away, since this will alert more editors that don't necessarily read all the project pages daily, that there are proposed changes. This would also help in the reorganization, so that all the pages point to the right place.
  2. Secondly, a chart or worksheet should be setup as a subpage of WP:WPTOUR, so we can see how the proposed changes are going to work, allowing us to make modifications and to work out any unforeseen glitches. We also need to make sure to follow the guidelines at: WP:COUNCIL/G.
  3. Did you realize that WP:WikiProject Travel is a re-direct to WP:WikiProject Tourism?
  4. I would suggest that the project be renamed to: Wikipedia:WikiProject Travel and Tourism, so that it would encompass the concepts of both travel and tourism. Then, make adventure travel, vacations and hotels to be TFs. For example: Wikipedia:WikiProject Travel and Tourism/Adventure travel task force, Wikipedia:WikiProject Travel and Tourism/Vacations task force and Wikipedia:WikiProject Travel and Tourism/Hotels task force.
  5. Why wouldn't the current project main page still be maintained as the main project page, with some modifications to include the new TFs, etc.? --Funandtrvl (talk) 04:32, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
I realized my organizational mistake shortly after editing and struck my incorrect comments - yes, the main page will stay as it is, with minor edits to reflect the new scope (Travel and Tourism) and links to the new task forces. I agree with renaming to WP:Travel and Tourism, and merging the other three inactive WPs into task forces of that new WP. I will wait and give editors a chance to respond, and add notices to the necessary templates. However, I am unsure of what you mean by chart or worksheet - feel free to create the chart/worksheet. Andyo2000 (talk) 20:34, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your response, I'm glad we agree!! What I meant by a worksheet is just to list the various categories, etc. on a subpage for organizational purposes. Of course, I will do it, I just need a clone to do all the work!! :) --Funandtrvl (talk) 04:15, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I set up this work area to explain the project's hierarchy: Wikipedia:WikiProject Travel and Tourism/Work area for populating categories, templates, etc.
I saw the work area - looks good. If I find anything else I'll add it. I have limited internet access for a while, so if I do not edit/move page/etc. feel free to do what needs to be done. Thanks. Andyo2000 (talk) 20:32, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, no problem! When I get a chance, I can do the page and template moves, etc. --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:48, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
There is now a sandbox: Template:TourismProject/sandbox, where we should set up the project banner template and it's TFs, etc., first. --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:52, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Have updated the template & project pages, still working on the TFs. --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:15, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Request for help

Hello everyone! I'm a postgraduate law student and I'm writing my thesis having to do (amongst others) with international tourism organisations. I am currently doing some research on the World Tourism Organization, emphasizing on legal matters and more specifically international law. Unfortunately, I cannot find adequate bibliography, either on-line or hard-copy. Has anyone came over something that could be of help? Any books, sites, links etc? Thank you in advance! I'd prefer if you answered on my talkpage but I'll watch this page too, just in case. Pel thal (talk) 06:06, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi- the only thing I can find would be at World Tourism Organization, in the references section, to look up J. Jafari's journal article in Annuals of Tourism Research. --Funandtrvl (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 05:11, 2 August 2009 (UTC).

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 04:02, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Merging related wikiprojects

Has any progress been made on merging travel-related wikiprojects under a larger banner? I feel that consolidating all the disparate WPs could greatly improve the attention given to articles under their coverage. AniRaptor2001 (talk) 21:07, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Template:Infobox World Heritage Site gives altogether the wrong information

This infobox has now succeeded in crowding out other types of infobox in the lead of nearly all relevant articles, but gives completely the wrong type of information for the general reader, with neither the date of the site, its location within a country, nor any description of what the site consists of being compulsory. Instead the box gives a range of bureaucratic file references to the UNESCO process that are of no interest to anyone but bureaucrats. This information should not be displayed but hidden in a show/hide bar, and the template should only display the basic information that general readers would expect. The articles covered by this template include, by definition, the world's most important architectural & heritage sites, and the current form of template lets the project down badly - see Giza Necropolis for a typical example. Please comment at Template talk:Infobox World Heritage Site#Gives altogether the wrong information. Johnbod (talk) 19:05, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Talk:Tourism in Israel#Requested move

Contributors here may be interested in the above and another proposal lower down the talk page that is also attracting support and oppose votes. The discussions are basically abotu choosing between the following options:

  1. Keeping the article name as it is and only discussing tourism in Israel's internationally recognised borders
  2. Keeping the article name and including places such as East Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Mount Hermon that are under varying degrees of Israeli authority
  3. Renaming the article to explicity cover the Israeli-occupied territories and therefore covering the whole gamut of places that ome under those headings.--Peter cohen (talk) 20:35, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Fixed up an article

There was a big blow-up over these articles a bit ago and I got involved in the discussion on AN/I. I usually don't specifically target travel and tourism, but I've been plugging away on Visa policy of South Korea. It's far from done. Lot's of visas and lots of coverage to include in the article, however I've improved it a lot and even got a DYK off it. i don't know if the same kind of article can be created for other countries, but I think this kind of format is better than the giant list of visa free countries that existed before.[1]--Crossmr (talk) 07:55, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Tourism articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Tourism articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Please review Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aaron Tobey which concerns Aaron Tobey Richmond Airport 4th Amendment Naked Protest

and proposals being discussed there for a potential merged or more general additional article on US civilian aiport security regulation issues and public reactions, perspectives on and by foreign travelers, sociology, law, cultural phenomenology, and international context. The later detection of Fukushima radiation at US airports, which is not yet mentioned in this article, is also being discussed as a subtopic to be added into a general article. Separately from the 'criiticms' subsection on the US Transportation Security Administration alone.

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Don't touch my junk is a second related AfD regarding another article which also presents a US airport bodily search protest.

A potential general article not only on protest but on efficacy, social context, and events which are of national and international note in these regards would also include breaking 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami and Fukushima I nuclear accidents news such as Japan radiation sets off O'Hare airport alarms -- CBS News Chicago station reports trace amounts of radiation clinging to flights from country ravaged by earthquake, tsunami:

"Trace amounts of radiation from Japan have been detected in Chicago, CBS News station WBBM-TV reports.

Travelers coming in from Japan on Wednesday triggered radiation detectors at O'Hare International Airport as they passed through customs. Only very small amounts of radiation were detected.

...Feds move more radiation monitors to West Coast...

"We are aware of the radiation," said Chicago Aviation Department spokeswoman Karen Pride. "We are adding screenings and precautionary measures."

...Radiation was also found in luggage and on passengers on flights from Japan.

Mayor Richard M. Daley and other city officials wouldn't provide any additional details, saying federal authorities were handling the situation.

"Of course the protection of the person coming off the plane is important in regards to any radiation and especially within their families," Daley said at an unrelated event." Getting from Paris/Orly to Paris/Charles de Gaulle

I'm asking this question here because I was advised to at the Miscellaneous Reference Desk. On Saturday 10 September I have a flight from Nice to Helsinki via Paris. However, the flight from Nice arrives at Paris/Orly and the flight to Helsinki leaves from Paris/Charles de Gaulle. I have three hours between the flights. How can I get from Paris/Orly to Paris/Charles de Gaulle in that time? JIP | Talk 17:17, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Materials used for Luggage

I noticed that the materials used was not addressed in the body. For many people the decision of choosing luggage is difficult. A section detailing the list and kinds of materials that is used and a ranking of what is most durable would be wonderful to have. Where to get that information is the difficult part. Someone out there must be testing them and have a way of ranking them. Here is a partial list that I have found already; however, I do not know much about each. polypropylene honeycomb Flex-Frame TM denier 600 denier 900 denier 1200 denier 1800 ballistic 150x300 denier poly twill Tricore Nylon leather Full-grain leather Top-grain leather Napa leather or Nappa leather Polycarbonate-used for hard sided luggage Nylon and cotton mixtures

I found each of these looking at each individual suitcase shopping online.

Good information should be found like: how much pressure is needed to break or rip each, how heavy is a square meter or yard of each of these.

Of course, each luggage brand name has high end pieces and low end pieces. It would be good know which luggage lasts the longest through the test of rugged flights. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MilinazzoLisa (talkcontribs) 19:03, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

WP:Hotels inactive?

I'd tried to get an assessment a little over a month ago for Motel, currently a 65-kilobyte long "start class" article of "top" importance. I got no reply at all as WP:Hotels seems to be dead at the moment. Now I have another question... what to do with an article on John's Modern Cabins, which was rejected on WP:RS grounds in WP:AFC but which does contain a few valid sources which might be of use if someone else were to attempt to write a page about this ghost tourist court, basically allowed to disintegrate since 1971 and closed after U.S. Route 66 was bypassed. I've tried WP:US66 but it's been too quiet lately.

Are there any active WikiProjects which might have a use for this draft? I have no plans to proceed further with it at this time, but it hardly seems justified to make the next person who looks at this start from zero. 66.102.83.61 (talk) 19:31, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Pittsburgh PA

Living in or near Pittsburgh Pa? Some think of it is an abstract area. There are many things to do. Many family activities (science center, zoo, sporting events, and the list can go on). There is also an adult life waiting to be explored. There is never a question on what to see or do. It is only a short drive from one attraction to another. Be prepared to have walking shoes and a need to explore. Do not worry about the dining portion; there are many places to choose. Pittsburgh is a great experience and a wonderful place to enjoy all it has to offer.

Tourism Wikipedia page for "Pure Michigan" - new updates for consideration

Hi Wikipedia Travel and Tourism Contributors - my name is Chad Wiebesick and I work for the State of Michigan's tourism office, Pure Michigan.

If it is of interest to you, there are some updated data, facts and figures that could be included in the Pure Michigan Wikipedia entry, for your consideration: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pure_Michigan

The $45 million budget is a bit outdated. That money was to be spread out over a number of years, and was not permanent. The 2014 budget is $29 million and was increased $4 million from last year for international marketing. The 2013 budget was $25 million.

I can provide other data, if you're interested, such as: Pure Michigan named Forbes one of the all-time best tourism campaigns, and michigan.org is the most visited state tourism website for the past seven years.

We could also consider including information about the current Governor and his support of the campaign.

Also, in the section where the article talks about the website relaunch in 2008, perhaps we update it to say that michigan.org relaunched its newest website in 2012.

Thank you for your consideration. How is it best to proceed? I have news stories and third party, independent research for this information, should it be helpful in updating the Wikipedia article.

For Wikivoyage, the project scope is a little different - voy:Michigan (and the individual cities under it) would have articles, but there are no articles about specific organisations like local or state CVB's. Their articles are cities or destinations. That project is a travel guide (unlike Wikipedia, which is an encyclopaedia) and uses different guidelines, voy:WV:Welcome, tourism professionals and "be fair" instead of WP:NEUTRAL. Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Proposed Changes to Sex tourism

Hello, I am a student at Rice University and am planning to update and expand the article Sex tourism as part of a class project. This start-class article has been rated "high importance" under this WikiProject, and I think it needs significant updates and expansion. I would like to first expand the article to include discussions on motivations for sex tourism, focusing on differing policies surrounding prostitution and social norms in sending and receiving countries. I would also include more information on how sex tourism operates, and the kind of revenue it generates in destination countries. Additionally, I plan to add sections to discuss social stigmas surrounding sexuality and prostitution, and how this motivates or influences sex tourism. I also would like to include a more thorough discussion of this issue's connection to human rights and capabilities. Finally, I plan to outline the effects of sex tourism on national economies and the resulting influence on policies. I will eliminate some of the less-developed sections of the existing article and incorporate the information elsewhere. Hopefully these changes will make this article more thorough, informative, and well-organized. Please comment with any recommendations or possible other changes you think I should make. I would appreciate feedback on how best to proceed with this article. Thank you! LHall19 (talk) 02:40, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Tour group

We do not have an article called tour group. They are huge. You know, those groups where people follow the leader with the triangle flag. Mandatory for Chinese citizens when travelling to first world nations (search "group" here). Lots of hour-long stops at pre-scheduled, rip-off souvenir shops for which the tour operator gets a cut. Get off the tour bus at famous sites for photos and then back on the bus. Does anyone want to help put this article together? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:07, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Help a new user

Hey, anyone interested in helping Chieveboy with Draft:Escape Tourism? I'd declined the draft because the specific term "escape tourism" appears to be a neologism, but I do think that there's some merit in covering the more general topic of escapism in travel and tourism. This would likely be a big undertaking and the user could use some guidance, so I thought I'd ask around here to see if any of you were interested. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:51, 8 October 2015 (UTC)

Help updating Maritz LLC article

Hello, My name is Madison (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MadisonfromStanding) I have submitted an edit to the page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Maritz,_LLC) and was wondering if someone wouldn't mind reviewing and incorporating the proposed changes to improve the page. I'm following Wikipedia's guidelines by requesting this here (due to a COI) and also because this group is focused on travel and tourism. Request to update the Hilton Worldwide infobox

  Resolved

On behalf of Hilton Worldwide, I'd like to request an update to the article's infobox. I've proposed three updates, which are described here. I've requested updates to: 1) the revenue figure, 2) number of employees, and 3) removal of the parent company.

These should be easy edits to complete, and I've provided formatted referencing, but I prefer not to edit the article directly because of my conflict of interest. Is someone able to respond to this request? Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your consideration. Inkian Jason (talk) 19:24, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Help with Hilton Hotels & Resorts?

Hello! I've been working on behalf of Hilton Worldwide to find ways to improve the article about Hilton Hotels & Resorts. Because of my financial COI, I stay strictly hands-off and will not edit the article directly. Last week, I proposed several updates on the Talk page. Since I haven't had a response, I thought it'd be a good idea to bring it to editors' attention here. I'd appreciate it if someone could take a look, give feedback, and make the changes if they seem OK. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 14:54, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

Requests for the Hilton Worldwide article

  Resolved

I've been proposing a series of edit requests on the article's talk page on behalf of Hilton. The first of my two most recent edit requests is to update the article with information about HNA Group agreeing to acquire a 25 percent equity interest in Hilton from Blackstone, and the number of HHonors members. The second request is to correct wording about Hilton Worldwide Holdings turning its hotel holdings into a real estate investment trust, and adding a detail about the company being named one of the "World's 25 Best Multinational Workplaces" by Fortune and Great Place to Work.

I've been granted permission by a reviewing editor to implement the second edit request, but I'd prefer not to edit the article directly because of my COI. I am looking for editors to review and implement these two requests as appropriate, and I'm hoping a WikiProject Travel and Tourism participant may be available to help. I can respond to questions here or on the article's talk page. Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 19:41, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

These two edit requests have been answered. Inkian Jason (talk) 15:40, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Popular pages report

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Travel and Tourism/Archive 2/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Travel and Tourism.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Travel and Tourism, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Template for Israeli passport stamps

Visitors whose passport contains a passport stamp from Israel are not allowed to enter a number of countries because of the Arab League boycott of Israel. However there has been edit warring on a number of passport articles when this information has been added.

I feel that this is important encyclopaedic information to add to all our passport articles about Visa requirements for ??? citizens (with the possible exception of our Israeli passport article about Visa requirements for Israeli citizens) and that a template should be formulated to reduce errors and maintenance overhead.

Does anyone disagree?

My suggested text for such a template would be:

Iran,[1] Kuwait,[2] Lebanon,[3] Libya,[4] Saudi Arabia,[5] Sudan,[6] Syria[7] and Yemen[8] do not allow entry to people with passport stamps from Israel or whose passports have either a used or an unused Israeli visa, or where there is evidence of previous travel to Israel. To circumvent this Arab League boycott of Israel the Israeli immigration services have now mostly ceased to stamp foreign nationals' passports on either entry to or exit from Israel.

BushelCandle (talk) 17:15, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

BushelCandle Is your proposal to add text to the ~300 Wikipedia articles for country passports? That seems excessive, regardless of what the text is. I am not sure what should be done, but generally, if there is information relevant to lots of Wikipedia articles then that information should be posted in its own wiki article, then other articles link to that central one. I am not aware of cases in which text in lots of wiki articles is managed by a central template as you are proposing. Why not make some kind of "travel restrictions" new article then have the others link to it? Blue Rasberry (talk) 21:19, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
No, I do not propose adding it to Passport articles and I have now corrected my proposal above. Personally I think that it is far more useful to have the specific travel restrictions for each nationality directly visible on each relevant citizenship technical article and this is precisely the sort of use that templates are designed for. This way the maintenance task of adding or subtracting countries is reduced more than one hundred-fold. There's probably a case for a similar "Armenian descent" template in regard to Azerbaijan... BushelCandle (talk) 13:36, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
There is this text in articles already but it's not uniform and it's not in all articles. This has led to one editor raising conspiracy theories how the info is intentionally omitted from some articles which is nonsense. Therefore I support this proposal. I would only add to "or where there is evidence of previous travel to Israel." that it refers to stamps issued at border crossings with Israel by the authorities of neighbouring countries.--Twofortnights (talk) 07:37, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
I've modified the Template:Israeli-PSR template to mention stamps from border posts in neighbouring transit countries such as Egypt and Jordan... BushelCandle (talk) 12:54, 22 June 2017 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

New bot to remove completed infobox requests

Hello! I have recently created a bot to remove completed infobox requests and am sending this message to WikiProject Travel and Tourism since the project currently has a backlogged infobox request category. Details about the task can be found at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/PearBOT 2, but in short it removes all infobox requests from articles with an infobox, once a week. To sign up, reply with {{ping|Trialpears}} and tell me if any special considerations are required for the Wikiproject. For example: if only a specific infobox should be detected, such as {{infobox journal}} for WikiProject Academic Journals; or if an irregularly named infobox such as {{starbox begin}} should be detected. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!

Merger proposal

Received request to merge British National (Overseas) passport into British National (Overseas) and British passport on 28 July 2021. Reason: The BN(O) passport article has significant overlap with the other two. Background information for the status itself is covered in great detail in the main BN(O) article. Information like endorsements, physical appearance, and issuance are all dealt with in the British passport article. Given that almost the entire BN(O) passport article duplicates information already detailed in the other two articles, I feel that it should be considered for merging. Additionally, the article contains entire sections that are uncited or very poorly cited and contains non-free images (all UK passport images continue to be covered under Crown copyright). User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Requesting inputs, how situation of leads in Tourism in X country articles can be improved ?

Greetings, I was reviewing lead of a Tourism in X country article and then I tried to compare with other Tourism in X country articles. In many such articles leads are seem factual and sourced (usually with respective governmental agencies or tourism industry promoted) .

First impression about first sentences would usually sound harmless but if keenly studied then seem inadvertent effort to impress the reader in some way. Main concern is most of such sentences are followed by load of bragging and boasting. In some cases industry ranks and stats are given but respective government are actively promoting in cited sourced media those ranks suddenly seem going up and same seem to be are sourced and cited. The problem is likely to be across in substantial number of Tourism in X country articles.

To initiate a discussion I am presenting here a table of first sentences from random list of countries tourism related articles and first sentences. As I said earlier those sentences are likely to sound very harmless but I would encourage Wikipedians to read subsequent leads and try to relate with bragging and boasting.

First sentences in lead in Tourism in X country articles (The selection is random)

Many of these look like they are coming from a tourist brochure or a tourism board. I would put focus on number of yearly visitors and number employed and omit all the "growing industry" or "growing rapidly". ---Lilach5 (לילך5) discuss 09:00, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

The Points Guy - update assistance

I suggested a few updates for The Points Guy on the talk page Talk:The_Points_Guy#Proposed_Updates_to_Article to help fix the article (missing sources, outdated information, etc.). I’d edit the page myself, but have a COI. Is someone from this project able to review the suggestions and update the article accordingly? Thanks.Cheergirl325 (talk) 15:35, 16 August 2022 (UTC)

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Proposed deletion of Keisha Schahaff

The article Keisha Schahaff has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

not a notable person

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 67.70.25.80 (talk) 22:29, 12 August 2023 (UTC)

“Visa policy of COUNTRY” articles external links spamming

I’ve noticed that there’s a problem with usually IPs and newly created accounts who think Wikipedia is a place for them to advertise their travel agency/visa agency websites, opening up the possibility of leading readers to spammy, scam and/or fraudulent websites. I’ve tried asking higher ups if there’s anything policy wise they can do to counteract this, however nothing so far has been done.

In the meantime, I came up with an interim solution and that is to use AWB to add this hidden text below the “External links” sub-heading of each article: <!-- ({{NoMoreLinks}}) --> <!-- DO NOT ADD MORE LINKS TO THIS ARTICLE. WIKIPEDIA IS NOT A COLLECTION OF LINKS NOR IS IT A PLACE FOR ADVERTISING (WP:ADV) ----- If you think that your link might be useful, instead of placing it here, put it on this article's talk page first for editor discussion. Links that are to UNOFFICIAL travel and/or visa agency websites WILL BE DELETED. IF YOU PERSIST, YOUR WEBSITE WILL BE BLACKLISTED BY WIKIPEDIA AND/OR WIKIMEDIA. -->

Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated! Fork99 (talk) 23:37, 12 August 2023 (UTC)
