Requested edits edit

Hello! I have been hired as a consultant to Hilton via my work with Beutler Ink to propose updates to this article. As a paid consultant with a financial COI, I will not make any changes to the article myself, but instead ask that others review my requests, give feedback, and implement any changes they determine to be appropriate.

As the majority of my suggestions are just small edits for accuracy, I uploaded an updated version of the article to my userspace here so that editors may review all the changes together.

Here is a breakdown of the changes:

  • Corrected the name to Curio – A Collection by Hilton (the name uses an en-dash rather than a comma)
  • Corrected details in the infobox
    • Updated headquarters, leadership, and number of properties, and removed Conrad Hilton as founder, since he died nearly 40 years before the brand's establishment
  • Updated sourcing throughout
  • Noted the brand's launch date and that it is part of Hilton Worldwide
  • Updated the description of the brand, including that it is made up of independent hotels that reflect the local area
  • Updated the list of open properties based on the Curio website
  • Removed Future properties
  • Corrected external links
  • Minor copyedits

Since I am just now creating the article's Talk page, I imagine not many editors are watching this article. If I do not get a response here in the next few days, I will reach out to a few relevant WikiProjects and direct editors here to comment. Thanks in advance for reviewing and providing feedback!   Partly done Hello @Heatherer: I've reviewed your edits and I've approved them all with one exception. You removed the categories and templates on the page and I'm not quite sure why: if you could explain why you did this and or justify your edit, I could perform this for you. Nonetheless, I've now saved your edits to the page. st170etalk 21:56, 17 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
@St170e: Thanks so much! I apologize for the confusion about categories and templates. I didn't include those in my draft because I had no edits for them and I felt that including them as disabled categories might make more work for the editor moving the material to the live article. How you've left the article looks great and you have fully implemented all the changes I was hoping for. Thank you! Heatherer (talk) 22:15, 17 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Heatherer: Ah I see, I half guessed that it was an error! You're very welcome. st170etalk 22:17, 17 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
@St170e: I just learned that a new Curio property opened late last month called LondonHouse Chicago. Would you be able to update the hotels table? Here's a reference, if you need one: <ref name=Kirouac16>{{cite news |title=LondonHouse Chicago Opens Its Historic Doors |author=Matt Kirouac |url=https://www.zagat.com/b/chicago/londonhouse-chicago-opens-its-historic-doors |work=[[Zagat]] |date=June 7, 2016 |accessdate=21 June 2016}}</ref> Thanks! Requested move 17 June 2016 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Not moved. I was unable to use the pageviews tool, so this decision is without prejudice. If it is found that "Curio" all by itself is more of a COMMONNAME than "Curio Collection", then the more common page title may be pursued. (closed by a page mover)  What's in your palette? Paine  13:23, 25 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Curio CollectionCurio – A Collection by Hilton – This is the proper name of the brand. It is also used in news sources, for instance this Yahoo Travel article from earlier this year. As a disclosure, I am suggesting this name change on behalf of Hilton. Heatherer (talk) 18:15, 17 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Strong oppose per above, and COMMONNAME. — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 01:10, 18 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • I'm a fan of WP:OFFICIALNAME, i.e. Wikipedia not blindly using official names that are not common names. However, in this case "Curio Collection" is presented as a proper name of the brand, something that is not as widely reflected in sources. (It is used less than[1] the proposed "Curio – A Collection by Hilton"[2]). I'm curious what User:St170e and User:Andy M. Wang are basing their common name arguments on. —  AjaxSmack  02:16, 18 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
    • @AjaxSmack: Ahh, thanks. Do you believe the current title is appropriate? I've only recently become more familiar with article naming conventions... I get 105K search results for "Curio - a collection by hilton" and 465K rsults for "curio collection" all with double quotes. — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 02:27, 18 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
      • If you're searching regular Google, you're going to get a number of false positives for "curio collection" like this and this. That's why I used Google News hits cited in my comment above. A third version of the name I get is Curio Collection by Hilton.  AjaxSmack  02:36, 18 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Name change edit

The above consensus was "opposed" to the requested move to "Curio – A Collection by Hilton". I will not argue for it further. However, during that discussion, someone suggested simply "Curio" as an option for naming the entry and the editor who closed the request reasoned: "If it is found that "Curio" all by itself is more of a COMMONNAME than "Curio Collection", then the more common page title may be pursued." Since then, the article has been renamed to Curio, but I don't see additional discussion about it. Are other editors in agreement that this is the best name for the entry? Between Curio (brand) and Curio collection, I prefer the latter. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 20:57, 29 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Updates edit

Hi all. Last June, I proposed major changes to this article on behalf of Hilton as part of my work with Beutler Ink. Since then, the brand has acquired almost a dozen new properties and many details in the article have become out of date. Rather than outline the numerous little edits to be made, I've uploaded a draft with all changes to my user space here. I'd appreciate it if another editor could review the material and, if it looks OK, move the entire draft over to the live article. To help make reviewing easier, here's a summary of the changes:

  • The company has new leadership, which has been updated in the infobox
  • The company website URL has also been updated
  • New sourcing has become available allowing for more accurate descriptions of the brand, including that it is an "upper upscale" "collection" brand comprised of hotels and resorts
  • New hotels have been added to the chart and the number of properties updated in the infobox and introduction
  • Curio's parent company, Hilton, has dropped the "Worldwide", so I've updated its name throughout the article
  • I've removed the photo of the Diplomat Hotel, since it has recently undergone a major renovation and the image is now outdated, not to mention this photo does not really have any clear distinguishing features to identify the Diplomat (though I understand if editors choose to keep it until a newer photo becomes available)

Please let me know if you have questions on concerns. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 21:25, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate you reviewing the draft carefully (and quickly!) and understand the changes you made. Thanks for your work on this, Conifer. I'm glad to see the article updated! Heatherer (talk) 14:08, 16 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Conifer: Curio just opened one additional property in Baltimore. Would it be possible for you to add "Pier 5 Hotel Baltimore" in "Baltimore, MD" to the chart? That should be the last article update for the time being. Let me know if you'd like me to create the formatting. Thanks so much! Heatherer (talk) 14:45, 30 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
