Things To Do
  1. Work on articles that need cleanup. A randomized short list is here
  2. Work on the collaborations of the month
  3. Create a page for each and every university and college and add {{infobox University}} for it. See the missing list for those institutions still awaiting articles.
  4. Place {{WikiProject Higher education}} on every related talk page.
  5. Ensure all articles, including Featured articles, are consistent with the article guidelines.

WikiProject Higher education aims to improve the coverage of universities and colleges on Wikipedia. Please feel free to join our project by adding your name at the List of participants and including this page on your watchlist.

About the projectEdit

GoalsEdit

  • Standardize the structure and content of all college and university articles
  • Represent the interests of colleges and universities and ensure their articles' compliance with Wikipedia's five pillars
  • Improve the coverage of university articles, propelling them to featured article status
  • Serve as the central resource for all discussions and information related to colleges and universities

Task forces and sub-projectsEdit

Task forces are meant to provide centralized information and a discussion area for topics that have a sufficiently large scope, but that would not benefit from having a separate WikiProject with all of the additional work that would involve. Currently, the only task force is Student Affairs task force.

Geographic areas, athletic conferences, or individual institutions with multiple pages and the interest of several active Wikipedians may become the subject of a sub-project. Propose the new project on the WikiProject Higher education talk page or at the WikiProject Council to make sure there is enough interest before starting a new project. See the related projects section for examples.

National differencesEdit

University and college systems vary to a great degree between different countries. Here are some good practice-adaptations of WikiProject Higher education for different countries:

New articlesEdit

Please feel free to list your new University-related articles here (newer articles at the top, please). Any new articles that have an interesting or unusual fact in them should be suggested for the Did you know? box on the Main Wikipedia page. DYN has a 72-hour time limit from the creation of the article.

Peer reviewEdit

  • Michael V. Drake President/The Ohio State University His biography reports on only negative aspects of his 30-year career in academia. I have added a sourced edit in order to add balance. If you have time to review or share feedback, I would appreciate it. I hope to add some content in other areas of his bio as well.]] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deborah Athy Guinan (talkcontribs) 12:28, February 8, 2016‎
  • University Canada West - Having declared my COI, I proposed some significant changes to this article and was hoping to get feedback from other editors. You will notice there is a lack of detail about the university’s history and academic activities and also potential issues related to original research in the Authorization and Reception sections. There hasn’t been a consensus on the content, and we are looking for further input from someone with more experience in editing university-related articles. I’d be grateful for your feedback. Many thanks, BrandDude (talk) 12:26, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
  • Pomona College – This article is of poor quality considering the college's reputation in the liberal arts. I do not feel qualified to make the necessary changes myself, and would thus appreciate a peer review. Sdkb (talk) 07:55, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
  • North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University — This article has been drastically overhauled in an attempt to reach GA and eventually FA ratings. I would appreciate a peer review to help identify any opportunities for improvement to the article --Educatedblkman1914 (talk) 00:04, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
  • Appalachian State University – A few other editors any myself have been slowly overhauling this page. I know it still needs a lot of work but I'm not entirely sure what I could do. I would really appreciate a peer review to help identify what improvements can be made. DavidSSabb (talk) 18:44, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
  • University of St Andrews – This article has recently undergone some major changes, I would appreciate any comment/ criticism and suggestions for what more can be done.Thanks.Xyphoid (talk) 20:37, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
  • McNeese State University This article is graded as Start class. I would like it reviewed to see what needs to be improved. CTtcg (talk) 14:48, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
  • Princeton Evangelical Fellowship — I've proposed merging this into History of Princeton University, but so far only the article creator and I have discussed it. We disagree, so other comments are needed for consensus. Lagrange613 20:07, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

College Navigator external linkEdit

For United States institutions, the Department of Education presents data at its College Navigator. You can link to a college's page by finding its IPEDS ID at nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator (not the OPE ID) and using the following template.

{{College-navigator|<id>}}

For example, Valparaiso University's ID is 152600. Therefore, this template produces

Valparaiso University at National Center for Education Statistics: College Navigator

You can use an optional second parameter to specify a name other than the title of the Wikipedia page that calls the template.

{{College-navigator|152600|Valparaiso University (Indiana)}}

produces:

Valparaiso University (Indiana) at National Center for Education Statistics: College Navigator
