Since you are new edit

Because you might be new, you might be unaware that remaining polite is pretty much the only way that you are going to ever get anything done. Comments like "I suggest you let me handle the wiki" are counter-productive, and an earlier version of myself might very well have taken you apart for such dickish remarks. The current version will simply point out a few policies that WP uses as guides, such as WP:OWN (which discuss how you don't own or control how any wiki is written), and WP:RS (regarding reliably sourcing the information you are adding, and restraining the temptation to include your personal observations). More than anything, it is important to remain polite; more edit-wars are fought over a basic lack of civility than anything else, except perhaps for neutrality. If you have questions, please ask. I will help, but you will find my well of good faith understandably empty if you act unpleasantly. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 13:52, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would also point out that you might want to read up on a policy called WP:3RR, which you are in danger of violating. Since you are new. I don't want you to encounter the experience of being blocked so quickly out of the starting gate. Ease off posting your version for a while and discuss the matter. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 14:34, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Imdb edit

I've reverted the replacement of the IGN citation with the one from Imdb. As I noted on the artcle discussion page, we don't consider Imdb a reliable source of citable information. If you can find one that is reliable, you can use it in addition to the IGN one, but removing it isn't going to help the article - Arcayne (cast a spell) 18:07, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

It is reliable, all information there is fact checked by IMDB editors. I'm not removing the IGN one, there are 2 in the article. The Unbeholden (talk) 06:51, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Poster JPG.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Poster JPG.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 11:12, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

December 2009 edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. When you make a change to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Upier. Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit. It is also useful when reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. This is not a warning - you got the last two from other editors because basically you failed to fill in the edit summary - so they did not know what you were doing in deleting material  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:26, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:Dungeonbowl.png) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Dungeonbowl.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:45, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Reverting and using talk pages edit

Re your edit here: Please do not revert to re-insert contentious edits. When proposing substantial changes to a lead section, an editor may object to your proposals. The proper response when this happens is not to unilaterally revert, but to try to obtain consensus on the article talk page. You especially should not revert other editors without an explanation in the edit summary (or on the talk page) - it is considered very discourteous. Neutralitytalk 15:14, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

No the default position is to keep whatever edit is based on the evidence presented, ie you cannot unedit it UNLESS its based on the evidence or reliable source. The unedit implies a conclusion that the KKK is still relevant, it is against the core principle of No original research and lacks a neutral perspective by denouncing the fact that according to the rest of the sources he is a conservative politician. Therefore the edit must remain as I made it, without evidence to support the original lead section your claim of it 'lacking consensus' has no merit to the dispute in question. The Unbeholden (talk)
You are wrong on every point. There is no "default position" to keep your edits; rather, you must establish consensus. Moreover, your edit is at odds with the portrayal of the article by reliable sources (which state clearly that Duke is a far-right perennial candidate known primarily for his extreme (neo-Nazi) views and Klan association, and do not depict him as a garden-variety conservative politician at all). Neutralitytalk 21:51, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
You are seriously trying to pass off Duke as a 'far-right perennial candidate for extreme neo-nazi views' because he frequently addresses the Jewish Question? I don't see any evidence so far that he has Klan assocation in the past 40 years. I'll have to assume that this is merely a extreme left leaning bias on your part, while using consensus as a shield to prevent the introduction of a unbiased correction based on the multitude of sources showing he is conservative, like his campaigning in Louisiana. Been noticing similar bias in covering war crimes under Russian Revolution article. The Unbeholden (talk)

Nine Noble Virtues 2-JAN-2018 edit

Hello TheUnbeholden, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Nine Noble Virtues have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Spintendo ᔦᔭ 08:14, 2 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Pussy whipped (disambiguation) edit

A tag has been placed on Pussy whipped (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I have undone your cut-and-paste page move edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Royal and noble styles a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:33, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Non-existent categories edit

Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Arishadvargas, please make sure that the category page actually exists. In some cases, it may be appropriate to create a new category in accordance with Wikipedia's categorization guidelines, but it is usually better to use the most specific available existing category. It is never appropriate to leave a page categorised in a non-existent category, i.e. one whose link displays in red. You may find it helpful to use the gadget HotCat, which tests whether a category exists before a change saved.Thank you.

You also added the same non-existent Category:Hinduism and mind to a bunch of other articles, from which it has also been removed. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 03:25, 2 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Dicklyon was clear that you should not do this. Do stop it. I just reverted you here. We do not disambiguate when there is no need to and when a topic is the WP:Primary topic. Stub tags edit

Hi, I've just noticed you're moving stub tags to the tops of articles. Never saw this done before, and it does seem strange, also highly obtrusive. I believe Wikipedia's philosophy to be to present content as far as possible, with maintenance tags as unobtrusive to the ordinary reader as can be accomplished... of course, they remain just as searchable by Wiki-gnomes and content editors when they're at the end. Hope this is fine with you. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:24, 29 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • I came here to raise the same issue. TheUnbeholden, please stop adding stub templates to the top of articles. They're placed at the very end: see WP:TAGSTUB. Also, it's best to use only the most specific stub tag: for example, there's no need to add a "Hinduism" tag if the article is tagged as a "Hindu philosophy" stub. Thanks! – Uanfala (talk) 10:35, 29 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oh, and one more thing: if the article is more than about a paragraph long, and it's on a relatively obscure topic for which there isn't that much to write about, then it's normally not considered a stub. You might want to have a look at Wikipedia:Stub#How_big_is_too_big?. – Uanfala (talk) 10:40, 29 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
I agree, clearly. I will move stub tags to the bottom on any articles I come across (I shan't go looking), but if this continues, discussion on another forum will plainly be needed. Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:50, 29 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

May 2019 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Eurocentrism, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. SummerPhDv2.0 14:36, 6 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion declined: Down to Earth (disambiguation) edit

I noticed that you tagged the page Down to Earth (disambiguation) for speedy deletion with the reason "unnecessary redirect". However, "unnecessary redirect" is not currently one of our criteria for speedy deletion, so I have removed the speedy deletion tag. You can take the page to Wikipedia:Redirects for Discussion for discussion on the merits if you still seek deletion. Thanks! IffyChat -- 10:04, 31 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

I tagged it for moving an article to the redirect page. Its number 9 on Wikipedia:Redirect/Deletion reasons. The Unbeholden (talk) 12:30, 1 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Also, please stop moving disambiguation pages from Foo to Foo (disambiguation) without establishing a consensus (e.g. at WP:RM) for what to do with the page at Foo. Primary topics are controversial at best, and unilateral page moves like yours can be considered disruptive. Thank you. IffyChat -- 10:06, 31 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Your edit to "Reactionary" edit

I'm not sure what you were thinking but the source you used in this edit is very clearly not reliable. It references this very Wikipedia article in the second sentence, its page title is written in Comic Sans and it is obviously a person or persons' idiosyncratic definition and interpretation of the term's meaning. The most cursory glance at the article shows that your claim, viz. "Reactionaries have the following beliefs in civil liberties and civil rights; [sic; was this supposed to be a colon (:)?] Bill of Rights, Anti-Patriot Act, Equal Protection Clause under the law and Natural Rights." is absurd. Please take the bare minimum effort to read the article before introducing such sweeping and contradictory statements into its lead. Thank you. 144.134.23.43 (talk) 13:38, 6 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

PRODding redirects edit

When you want to move a page to a new title covered by a redirect, do not use the {{subst:prod}} tag, as redirects are not eligible for proposed deletion and it would create unnecessary clutter at WP:PRODSUM. Instead, use {{db-move|Other page|reason=Your reason here}} and move the page when the redirect is deleted. If the redirect has no history except for creation, you may also overwrite it by moving the page directly. In any case, you should discuss potentially controversial moves first, following the guide at WP:RM. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 05:47, 5 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

I'm adding the genres from the neo-noir list of titles. The Unbeholden (talk) 17:16, 14 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'm aware; but beyond my concerns with your edits it's a more general problem in any case. We have many, many film articles where it's unclear how the list of genres in the lead was determined. Is this a problem? Probably 90% or more of the time nobody even cares, but 10% of the time would still be a huge number of articles, and I don't go a day without seeing the genres listed in the leads of film articles being edited. I think we need a better system for this. That said, thank you for your efforts to better document your genre-related changes; I really appreciate it! DonIago (talk) 17:21, 14 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

We do not use one source for genres. See WP:FILMLEAD: Genre classifications should comply with WP:WEIGHT and represent what is specified by a majority of mainstream reliable sources. Not one source. A ref is unnecessary and usually not used in the lead, because it's a summary of many sources. - Gothicfilm (talk) 22:56, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

To be fair, I may have partly led to this by noting that the films couldn't be categorized as neo-noir without sourced information in the articles describing them thusly. However, I believe we've found a good compromise option where we mention that the films have been considered neo-noir but don't elevate that to a lead genre classification.
