Women in sports

Hi there, Lee Vilenski. I am impressed by all the articles you have created on sports people and sporting events. In July and August, WikiProject Women in Red has a strong focus on sports. It would be great if you could help to improve our coverage of sportswomen who lag far behind men on Wikipedia. Hope you can join in and help us along. If you like, please feel free to register as a member of Women in Red. Let me know if you experience any difficulties.--Ipigott (talk) 13:05, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

Ipigott - Not sure if this was a generated message, or if it was specifically for me, but I was planning on making some cue sports female bios, so I'll work my way through some. Do I just comment any that I make? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:40, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
No, I wrote to you specifically as I could see how active you have been. It would be great if you could register as a project member on the main Women in Red page. You could also include yourself as a participant on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/126. Then add your new articles to "New or upgraded articles" on that page. On the talk pages of your new articles, you should add {{WIR-126}}. But if you feel all this is too demanding, just try to concentrate a bit more on covering women in July and August. It might help to reduce the gender gap. Let me know if you experience any difficulties. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 14:41, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
Ipigott Got it. Thanks for informing me. Might be worth a quick mention to WP:SNOOKER, as the snooker bios for women is pretty damned poor. Thanks for seeking me out though! Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:56, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip. I've posted a couple of lines there. Ecourage your friends to participate too.--Ipigott (talk) 15:06, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
  • I've just noticed you did a good job reviewing Lebanon national football team for GA. Nehme1499 is now looking for someone to review Lebanon women's national football team (see my talk page). Any chance you could take it on? If you are too busy, could you suggest anyone else? I'm really not at all familiar with GA reviews on sports but am really trying to promote more interest in women's sports.--Ipigott (talk) 09:05, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
Ipigott - I did, but it was on the previso of QPQ, which was never followed up on. I will take a look at the article when I get time if another editor doesn't complete the review before I do. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 11:14, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
Just to check Ipigott, I've done a few bios such as Sara Rocha and Pia Filler. Is this the sort of content you were looking for, etc? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:06, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
Yes indeed. You've made a great start with four new articles and appear to be one of the main contributors to the editathon. I see that Dianna Khodjaeva has already reached start class. Perhaps you would like to become an "official" member of Women in Red by registering on the main project page. Thanks also for including the WiR template on the talk pages and for listing your articles on the sports meetup page. Keep up the good work.--Ipigott (talk) 14:19, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
Ipigott, thanks for your help. I'm not sure on exactly the terms of how DYK works in this way, but I recently passed a DYK for Template:Did you know nominations/2019 Austria Open, which one of the hooks was regarding Dianna. I have linked them. Would it be suitible to transclude this to her page? As far as I can tell, she is DYK nominatable; but I'm a little unsure if it's suitable. If you aren't sure, I'll pass over to WP:DYK. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:23, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
Khodjaeva looks perfectly suitable for DYK. It's over 1500B and well sourced. As it has the WiR tag, if it goes through it could be listed on the editathon page under "Did You Know features". I don't think you should transclude it to 2019 Austria Open. Hope this answers your query.--Ipigott (talk) 15:52, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

WikiCup 2019 July newsletter

The third round of the 2019 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it to the fourth round needed to score at least 68 points, which is substantially lower than last year's 227 points. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

  •   Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with 500 points derived mainly from a featured article and two GAs on natural history topics
  •   Adam Cuerden, with 480 points, a tally built on 16 featured pictures, the result of meticulous restoration work
  •   SounderBruce, a finalist in the last two years, with 306 points from a variety of submissions, mostly related to sport or the State of Washington
  •   Usernameunique, with 305 points derived from a featured article and two GAs on archaeology and related topics

Contestants managed 4 (5) featured articles, 4 featured lists, 18 featured pictures, 29 good articles, 50 DYK entries, 9 ITN entries, and 39 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them, and it is imperative to claim them in the correct round; one FA claim had to be rejected because it was incorrectly submitted (claimed in Round 3 when it qualified for Round 2), so be warned! When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Lebanon women's national football team GA

Thanks for your review, especially for your professionalism and for being straight to the point (it barely took 2 days!). I can't thank you enough for what you have done with both the men's and women's teams. Every week or so I will look at the articles for review list and see if there is anything I deem I can review for you.

Thanks again, Nehme1499 (talk) 18:01, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

It also seems to be your birthday: best wishes! Nehme1499 (talk) 18:02, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

Thanks Nehme1499. No worries; the article had limited scope, which actually makes it easier to review somewhat.
If you'd prefer, I do have an open FA nomination, which, whilst being on the 2018 World Snooker Championship needs more opinions.
You wouldn't have to do anything particularly cue sport related, as FA reviews are supposed to be open to all.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. :) Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 17:33, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

mobileUndo

Hello, recently FR30799386 was blocked for sock puppetry. The left behind few of their scripts. DannyS712 has copied the scripts, and has taken over maintaining them. It appears that you currently importing an outdated version of import FR30799386's mobileUndo, and I thought that you might want to import an updated and maintained version. The outdated version you are currently importing has some bugs. Those bugs have been fixed by the original creator and DannyS712 synced their version of the script with it. Also FR is currently rewritting and updating this script on meta-wiki per this advice as well as adding new features. Please copy one of the following codes and replace it with the code you currently have in your Special:MyPage/minerva.js or Special:MyPage/common.js to import this script. Thank you. Masum Reza📞 15:51, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

  • mw.loader.load('//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:DannyS712/Undo.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript'); – Stable version
  • mw.loader.load('//meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:FR30799386/undo.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript'); – Beta version - Major UI improvements - Might has some bugs. Please help by sending bug reports to meta:User_talk:FR30799386 if you find any.

Hello it appears that you made a typo while editing your minerva.js. It appears that you have this code - w.loader.load('//meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:FR30799386/undo.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript'); in your minerva.js. It should be mw.loader.load('//meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:FR30799386/undo.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript');. The script wouldn't load this way. Please update. Thanks. Masum Reza📞 11:23, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

I shall give it another go! Thanks for letting me know Masumrezarock100, I'm certainly no coder, I dabble but it's a bit past me. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:58, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
I checked your minerva.js. It should be fine now. But if you are still not seeing the undo button while previewing a diff on the mobile website, do reply. Masum Reza📞 16:49, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, sadly still nothing Masumrezarock100, I'm still short. I use it quite a bit, as I'm usually short on PC time. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:51, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
That's unexpected. I imported your minerva.js and it worked. Try to visit this link https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/907400731 . What browser and device you are using? Masum Reza📞 17:03, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
Samsung Galaxy S9, and google chrome. Old Script worked fine, but this one doesn't work at all. I'll have a look and see what I can do Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 17:06, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi I've come across these articles written by User:BennyOnTheLoose whilst reviewing and am a little concerned about some of the references that all link to the News Bank home page. I don't see the point in this as there is no way to search for an article so no way to verifiy that the source is correcct. I may have missed something Maybe you can help. cheers --Dom from Paris (talk) 11:51, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
NewsBank is available free via many UK public libraries - not sure about in other countries. Looks like some licences are also available via Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library/Databases/Requests . If there’s a better way to reference these articles then I’m happy to rectify them- but the sources are not available generally online freely (as far as I can tell) BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 12:58, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
domdeparis - could potentially tag them as needing a subscription, but there is no issue with the sources being used at all. They are verifiable. You might even be able to get an account at WP:LIBRARY Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:05, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
Oh, I see. I think I misunderstood. BennyOnTheLoose, you don't have to prove a link to every citation. You'd be better of using {{Cite magazine}}, and not linking to the page. I thought this was links to the newsbank specific article. Honestly, offline sources are perfectly acceptable, and arguably much better than one stuck behind a paywall. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:17, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
Thank's that what I had already done to one of the sources, I converted it to a news source citation as the URL is just to the home page. --Dom from Paris (talk) 13:31, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
Sue Foster now published too. Might this one need a stub marker? — Preceding unsigned comment added by BennyOnTheLoose (talkcontribs) 22:29, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
Lesley McIlrath too. No more redlinks in women's world snooker champions! I'll see if I can get anything on the redlinked runners-up. Thanks! BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 23:33, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
Sorry - me again! Also I've added to Nutcharut Wongharuthai. I'd say that making the first 147 by a woman (reported internationally) is sufficiently notable in itself, and reaching the world final adds further weight to this. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 23:54, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

FAC

Hello, I just wanted to drop a note to say that I admire your resilience in getting 2018 World Snooker Championship through the FAC process. Sports articles are notoriously difficult to attract sufficient reviews. We have many great editors who write fine content on football, hockey, auto racing, and other sports, but they rarely attract enough attention at FAC. Nice work! --Laser brain (talk) 23:05, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Thanks Laser brain! I'm pretty happy, as it's my first. I'm sure I'll nominate more in the future. It is surprising, as sports articles are such highly well written articles, and have tonnes of GANs and GAs. Cue sports in general is quite badly represented by editors, but that shouldn't really stop an FA. Thanks for your time, and I'll work on the next one. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:04, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

Also, I've noticed that Kaplan is still an active player. However, the article does not discuss her tournaments after 2015, so I placed an "empty" template on that section. Thanks for your contributions, and best of luck with the article! —Bobbychan193 (talk) 06:48, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
