Large numbers of issuesEdit

Is there any procedure to add yourself and merely mention you have a certain selection of issues of a magazine? I subscribed to Nintendo Power for a long time when I was young, starting from issue 50 to maybe 150ish. I should have almost every single issue in that range (1993 - 2001/2002).

I could help in adding each of those (because of course everyone needs to know what's in those issues for it to be of much use), but this page would get even more ridiculously large :)

In any case, I have those issues, so if you can't contact other people that have them go ahead and try me; just leave a note on my talk page - TheBillyTalk 16:24, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Have a look at the top of the Edge section and they put a similar bit of text at the top of the Nintendo Power section. If you can add the key articles for each issue that would be a help, I know how much of a ball ache it can be though ( I'm still recovering from all of the linking I had to do for Edge issue 80) - X201 (talk) 16:37, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Online ReviewsEdit

I was taking a look at the Game Informer site, and they post VG reviews online. Some WP articles cite these reviews for their Critical Response/Reveption sections. I was wondering, are the online reviews the same as the magazine ones? —Hydrokinetics12 (talk) 16:14, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

A lot of the time they come from the magazine, but you've really gotta watch it. Sites like ComputerAndVideoGames, which represent several publications, can be unclear as to which magazine the review comes from. And almost none of the magazine sites tell you the issue numbers or information like that. I suggest that, when you know the approximate year of the review, to hit the Internet Archive for the mag's website back around then and see if they have their reviews online. Otherwise, I'd say to make every effort to find the print edition of the magazine. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 15:31, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

I do prefer paper reviews (no chance of the server pulling the plug on the info), but I honestly don't know where I'm gonna get a hold of a five-to-ten year old copy of a magazine… --Hydrokinetics12 (talk) 02:11, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Any ideas?Edit

I don't know if anyone's notcied, but this page has become far too long, and is difficult to load and navigate due to its length. Maybe the page should be split into two or something. Any ideas? Ashnard Talk Contribs 18:57, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Easy. Reformulate the page's information into collapsible tables. If I recall, someone made that proposition here before. --Hydrokinetics12 (talk) 22:25, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Response to RequestsEdit

What happens if someone has put his/her name on the WP:VG/M page and doesn't respond to magazine requests? I mean after several requests have been made, nearly a month has passed, and nothing, not even denying the request, is said in response? --Hydrokinetics12 (talk) 22:33, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

What, is the user still an active contributor? Ashnard Talk Contribs 23:18, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Really don't know. Thought I'd just point out that sometimes its hard to establish contact w/ some contributors. Or maybe we need a more organized management system for reviews than having each user either put the review on his/her talk page or on the page of the asker. --Hydrokinetics12 (talk) 20:40, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
There's also the question about copyright, although I know next to nothing about the issue. I was going to post a review on User: Dihydrogen Monoxide's talk page, but he suggested that I e-mail him it with regards to copyright. Which, if copyright is an issue, should be the precedent. I don't think anything is stated on this project page about that though. In regards to the initial question, if the user won't respond, then that really is unlucky. Some are users are just like that, and I really don't know why. Ashnard Talk Contribs 20:48, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Have only just realised that this is about me. Sorry. I totally forgot about your request and after doing a couple of requests in succession I thought I'd cleared the decks and had none left to do. Sorry. It was an honest mistakes on my part. - X201 (talk) 21:10, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Actually, it wasn't about you X201 (not tatally, anyway :)). BTW, I got your email. Thanks, but does the review come w/ a caption? --Hydrokinetics12 (talk) 19:29, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Tacking on to this thread, it seems that there are a few magazine contributors who are no longer active. Mitaphane has been gone for nine months and Imaginationac has reduced his visits to once a month or has stopped by now. Should the listings be updated to reflect their status? Jappalang (talk) 05:14, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

I also believe User: Surachit is also no longer active; he's the one I was referring to when starting this section. --Hydrokinetics12 (talk) 01:56, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Making finding magazines easierEdit

Maybe this is interesting to someone here: To easily search all the different subpages of the magazine project, do this.

  1. Bookmark this page
  2. Right-click the bookmark and select "Properties"
  3. Change the name to "WP:VG mag search".
  4. Change the keyword to "vgm".
  5. Now you can type something like "vgm Max Payne" in the Firefox adress bar to search all the different magazines that have articles so you don't have to browse all the different magazine pages. JACOPLANE • 2008-08-11 12:35
I guess I could also make this into a browser search plugin if anyone's interested. JACOPLANE • 2008-08-11 15:31
You should post these instructions to the project page. SharkD (talk) 22:25, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, this is really just a sucky hack using google. Ideally, we'd index everything in a searchable database. JACOPLANE • 2008-08-12 00:15
This works in Firefox, but I don't think it does in Internet Explorer. Opera has keyword searches the last time I used it (which was a while ago) but I can't recall if it uses the same method as Firefox. Gary King (talk) 00:45, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
I don't think anyone here uses Internet Explorer. JACOPLANE • 2008-08-12 01:13
I use Internet Explorer xD Evaunit♥666♥ 02:11, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Done, moved this from WT:VG, since it's more relevant here. JACOPLANE • 2008-08-14 11:05
I'm also posting the instructions on the main magazines page. JACOPLANE • 2008-08-14 11:06

Not sure when things were moved around, but the search terms are no longer accurate—the instructions should be updated. Would a link to the custom Wikipedia search suffice, or is there a better alternative? czar · · 04:05, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Need help finding PC Gamer UK articleEdit

Hi people. I am looking for the original PC Gamer UK article mentioned in this article. Joystiq is not considered a reliable source and I believe the information reported is interesting enough for inclusion in the System Shock 2 article. However, I cannot add the Joystiq reference with FAC requirements and such. The article is probably in an issue published in August of 2006. Any help is appreciated. Cheers. -- Noj r (talk) 02:09, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

The cutting on Joystiq is the piece in its entirety. Its from the magazine's gossip column so that may affect the notability of it. The magazine details for a citation are: September 2006, issue 165, page 20. The author of that particular page only ever writes under the pseudonym of The Spy. If you need any other info drop me a line on my discussion page. - X201 (talk) 08:56, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
I have an original copy of the mag [[, and there's a (1.5MB) scan of the entire page here. I don't think it would scrape past WP:FU here, so I used imageshack - I'd like to take it down ASAP, so let me know when you've finished with it. The exact author of The Spy is unknown (it's The Spy who writes it...). It's a rumour and gossip column, detailing the various "I heard from a friend who heard from a friend who knows someone who makes the coffee at EA" machinations of the game developing world. —Vanderdeckenξφ 12:01, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Anyone get Game Developer?Edit

There's a The World Ends With You post-mortim in the October 2008 of Game Developer that I'd like to get my hands out to fill out more in the TWETY article. Gamasutra has nice snippets but I need more. --MASEM 23:13, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Send me an email and I'll reply back with a PDF version. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 01:31, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Looking for an issue of Computer Games MagazineEdit

Hi all, I'm in need of the Nov. 2003 issue of Computer Games Magazine, specifically the piece "Massively Multiplayer Roundup"; I need to verify and see the context of a quote used in Threshold (online game). The quote is supposed to come from page 53. I know it's in the stacks at University of Wisconsin-Madison (via WorldCat). —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 15:12, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Reveal the picture gamesEdit

I'd appreciate it if someone with access to old game magazines could search for sources on the topic of Reveal the picture games. Thanks! SharkD (talk) 03:18, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Looking for obscure gameEdit

I'm trying to find information for the development section of Moto Racer Advance. I'd like to get my hands on some previews for the game (the only ones online are IGN ones). Anything, even a blurb, is appreciated. It was first revealed at E3 2002, so if you have coverage from around that time, could you check? Cheers. -- Nomader (Talk) 08:19, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Play Magazine September 2008 BloodRayne 2 previewEdit

Looking for this article, supposed to be 8 pages and it's the only interview I haven't been able to dig up yet to fix the Rayne (BloodRayne) article. If anyone can toss me scans or at the least a transcript to work with I'll be dandy, though mainly hoping it has character creation information as for the most part I've been really having to dig for anything useful.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 03:11, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Looking for someone with ACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment), a big UK mag that ran from the late '80s to the early '90s. Specifically, I'm looking for issue 15, from December 1988. It contains a review of Pool of Radiance; if someone has access to it, it'd be great. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 00:25, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Think I have it, will take a look in the garage tomorrow. :) Miremare 00:27, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Cool, thanks. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 00:39, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Damn, my copies of ACE seem to have disappeared... sorry about that. If they turn up I'll let you know. Miremare 12:28, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh well. Thanks anyway. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 22:54, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

@JimmyBlackwing: It's forever later, but they're online now, the game in question at [1] since I noticed it's not in the article. This should like totally make in an FA, right? —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 00:30, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up! But yeah, it's definitely a bit late for this project. If I remember right, I was asking here on behalf of BOZ, and his GAN for Pool of Radiance ended up passing anyway. Thanks regardless, though. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 01:44, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

Thief: The Dark Project CGW and PC Gamer reviewsEdit

Back again. Does anyone have the March 1999 issue of Computer Gaming World (issue 176), or the April 1999 issue of PC Gamer US? These two issues contain reviews of Thief: The Dark Project, which is undergoing a very successful collaboration. With CGW and PC Gamer US being the most prestigious and well-known PC game review sources of the late '90s, however, it's unlikely that the article could pass FAC without them. So, if anyone has access to these reviews, it'd be great. Thanks. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 21:20, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

GameDeveloper mag , Oct 2009Edit

Anyone get GameDeveloper? I am looking to get my hands on the Infamous post-mortem featured in it, parts which are on the web, but would like whole thing. --MASEM (t) 14:07, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

"Top ever" listsEdit

Just a heads-up, I created a searchable index of "Top ___ ever" and "Best ___ ever" lists. If you have any others, please drop me a line. SharkD  Talk  06:11, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Security for MMOG's and virtual online communities - McAfee perspectiveEdit

I ran into this 20-page white paper from McAfee about security for Securing Virtual Worlds Against Real Attacks: White Paper by Dr. Igor Muttik. "...we will discuss MMOG-based spam, phishing, adware, and spyware." It could be an interesting source (with attention to potential biases of a security company in promoting their field). I couldn't identify a particular article with security coverage, so I'm putting it here in hopes somebody interested will find it. :) Jodi.a.schneider (talk) 14:24, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Dead websitesEdit

See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games#Dead link time! Metacritic. It might be a good idea to create a sub-page detailing how to retrieve information from versions of such sites. SharkD  Talk  18:46, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Amiga databaseEdit

I have found to be an absolutely critical source of information in the past. Should it be added to the Reference library's databases? JimmyBlackwing (talk) 17:28, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Top games listsEdit

Would it be OK to move this out of my user space? SharkD  Talk  05:40, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

  • I say go for it. And since I'm probably the only response you're going to get here, considering how dead this place is, you might as well just do it. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 00:02, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
  • SharkD - That's an impressive piece of work. Hope to see it out in the wild :) --SubSeven (talk) 08:44, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Resource ExchangeEdit

I just discovered the existence of WP:WRE and noticed that it had a subsection devoted to video games. I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to put a {{main}} link into this subsection to lead interested parties to WP:VG/RL. Does anyone else agree that this is a good idea? -Thibbs (talk) 14:11, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

OK I added it here. -Thibbs (talk) 13:02, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Official Xbox Magazine Takashi Iizuka interviewEdit

Does anyone have access to the Official Xbox Magazine, I believe it must be in the May or June 2011 issue, probably the UK version that this site makes reference to? It is an interview with Takashi Iizuka, Sonic Generations currently uses a fan site source, and I'd like to attribute it to the magazine itself. Just need the issue and page number I believe. If this is not the best place to ask, could someone point me in the right direction? Cheers. Яehevkor 19:36, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Normally you'd start at the Official Xbox Magazine library but that only seems to cover up to 2006. Additional online resources for this magazine can be found here, but I have not been able to locate the interview after a little basic searching. Hopefully someone else has a copy of the magazine and would be willing to share. You might consider posting at WT:VG to give your request greater exposure. -Thibbs (talk) 20:38, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Thibbs. I was also unable to find the article in the online archives of either the UK or US version. I've left a note on the VG talk page as you suggested. Яehevkor 15:24, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
I may have the copies, lemme look for them. Salvidrim! 16:05, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Reference Library DonationEdit

So I'll be moving in the near future and, while I enjoy contributing to this project, I don't think the reference library will be joining me in the move. I'd like to send it to a good home, but I have one problem. It's probably going to be pricey to move to any arbitrary location. The Reference Library, by my estimation, would need to fit in something like a 2' x 2' x 1' box and would weight around 250 lbs. Quick shipping estimates places that in the hundreds of dollars. I had one brave soul inquire once about scanning all the contents of NextGen a few years ago, the shipping estimates were about the same. The only way I see this happening is some fellow Wikipedian either wants to foot the cost of the shipping bill or happens to live in the Louisville area where I live. If anyone fits this description send me a message. Otherwise, I'll probably be placing this library into some sort of long term storage. --—Mitaphane Contribs | Talk 01:33, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

FYI: The library now has a new home with JimmyBlackwing. I found/replaced all references to me and moved it to him. Kudos to him for keeping the reference library stocked! —Mitaphane Contribs | Talk 23:45, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Looking for Famitsu review score sources (June 2014)Edit

Taiko no Tatsujin: Don to Katsu no Jikū Daibōken (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Reference to this: [2] (not exactly RS so would not use for now). Does any have the official Famitsu source for the 8/9/8/8 score for the game? Thanks in advance!

Note: The post says "June 17 2014", but IMO better stretch to the whole June? --やろういん 野郎院ひさし(t/c) 23:11, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

  • At present the WP:VG Reference Library only has a single listing for Famitsu and it's for a different issue. I know there are others who have copies of Famitsu because I myself have a number from the 1993-2000 period that I plan to list later, but sadly this is a really quiet talk page. Not the best place to post this kind of a question. If I were you I would post at WT:VG. -Thibbs (talk) 11:03, 16 August 2014 (UTC)

Looking for specific article from Game Informer #251 (March 2014) on Let's PlaysEdit

The article should be called "Watching People Play" by Mike Trinh , pp. 16–22 in #251 which should have publication date March 2014. This is for Let's Play (video gaming) which I need to double check information against a new article Kotaku just posted. --MASEM (t) 16:37, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Hardcore GamerEdit

Found this and can't seem to see it on the archive, worth adding? Darkwarriorblake / SEXY ACTION TALK PAGE! 22:32, 16 January 2016 (UTC)

It's also at Internet Archive (not sure if the same version). There's quite a lot of magazines that are now available online. HCG's definitely on the list. Personally, I haven't made pages for them all, because without listing contents it's not that helpful. HCG doesn't seem to have content summary online, so it would only point to the PDF at this time. Don't know if [3] matches their magazines. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 22:43, 16 January 2016 (UTC)

PS-themed book neededEdit

I'd like to know if someone's got access to the duology of Pix'n Love books about the making of the PlayStation titled La Revolution Playstation or to Revolutionaries at Sony, an earlier work by the same author containing much of the same information. The reason why I'm after one of these is that they are chock-full of valuable info tidbits that I could use in beefing up an article about a certain early PS title. Any help would be much appreciated. -- Electroguv (talk) 15:34, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

List of sales charts by PC Data, NPD, Chart-Track, etc.Edit

I've been compiling a resource that provides quick access to old sales charts from a variety of sources—but mostly PC Data, at the moment. It's a work-in-progress and designed mainly for my personal use right now, but I'll probably create a WPVG/RL subpage for it at some point. Until then, it can be found at the link above. Maniac magazineEdit

Maniac is a German gaming magazine started in the 90's, and for the last few years they've been uploading their reviews from their print magazine to their website. There's hundreds of reviews for games on the Saturn, PlayStation, and SNES. Many of the games reviewed don't have that many sources on WP, and putting them on their website makes them very easy to access. I opened a RS discussion on it, since the site doesn't seem to be used on WP much just in case. But I don't think there's any issues with the source. Harizotoh9 (talk) 12:25, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
