Crooked Boy (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

This article does not satisfy musical notability because it has no charting information and does not otherwise satisfy any of the musical notability criteria, and does not satisfy general notability because it does not refer to significant coverage by third parties. It was unilaterally moved from draft space to article space by the page creator with the edit summary It's been too long, so draftification is not appropriate. The Heymann criterion is to add charting information within six days.

Redirect to Ringo Starr discography#Extended plays: Album has been out for multiple months and has not received satisfactory coverage for notability as nominator has stated, nor any requisite charting/sales figures. No point in returning it to drafts if it's just not a notable release. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 07:57, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
  • Keep Google search of "Crooked Boy review" lists 2500 results. Premature to discount existence of good references to be added to article. Rockycape (talk) 08:52, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
  • Keep I have added charting information to the article from Official Charts. It appears that there's only charting information for the title track, but it performed fairly well on the aforementioned chart, so there's no reason to delete it. There was no charting information on the article because it was created before it was released. The article also passes WP:GNG, since there are several articles discussing the EP from different sources. Just because the information isn't there doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Bandit Heeler (talk) 11:56, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
  • Keep - It appears that this nomination was based on events in the draft system, and the nominator likely failed to do the WP:BEFORE search that is required before a deletion debate in order to investigate notability. Also, deciding that notability had not been established just because of spotty sources in the draft version is a violation of WP:NEXIST. The album received widespread reliable coverage the week of its release, and it and one of its songs made the charts in two countries months before this nomination. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 13:02, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
  • Weak Keep. There seems to be significant coverage on reliable sources. However, there may be some confusion if the coverage is due to the notability of the EP, or because of the popularity of the artist Ringo Starr of which notability is not inherited may be invoked. Prof.PMarini (talk) 10:29, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
Wolf at the Door (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Song by Keane (not to be confused with the song by Radiohead). Fails WP:NSONGS: no coverage in multiple, non-trivial published works whose sources are independent of the artist and label. Popcornfud (talk) 17:34, 21 July 2024 (UTC)

Redirect to Keane (band): found no additional coverage. Would also recommend a swap with Wolf at the Door (disambiguation). QuietHere (talk | contributions) 01:24, 22 July 2024 (UTC)

The article is almost exclusively cited to non-RS sites, and isn't even that notable to begin with (I may be wrong). Sir MemeGod ._. (talk - contribs - created articles) 03:23, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

  • Redirect to Tom MacDonald (rapper): None of the sources here are reliable; they're mostly right-wing publications with clear bias which would never pass the smell test at WT:RSP, the Forbes article fails FORBESCON, and the rest are YouTube and social media. Found no additional coverage. Charting section is full of SINGLEVENDOR fails.
From my past experience, it is important to be wary of the potential for this to be swarmed with comments by biased editors. Hopefully they don't notice this one like they did the one I linked, but if they do, there may be a mess to pick through. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 07:20, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
Not !voting at this point, but will note in regard to the Forbes piece, even if it gets by FORBESCON due to the author being a recognized expert in an appropriate realm (I've not checked), it's unusable because Forbes or the author withdrew the piece; it was on the website less than half a day, which is not a matter of simply aging out (indeed, I don't think Forbes ever actually ages things off the site.) -- Nat Gertler (talk) 15:37, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

@MrSchimpf I get what you mean, but the song's placement on Billboard Charts literally had not been released yet, which could establish notability. Johnson524 18:10, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
  • Redirect per previous votes and lack of proper sourcing. As for the question of chart position, chartwatchers project that the song will debut at #1...on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart and the Digital Songs chart. I'm not familiar with Wikipedia's notability guidelines for music, but I'm guessing that's not enough to overcome this song's failure to meet GNG. BottleOfChocolateMilk (talk) 17:56, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
  • Keep Redirect (per CFA comment) The Billboard Chart placements just released, and the single placed first in Digital Song Sales (and was already added to the article List of Billboard Digital Song Sales number ones of 2024 by another editor) and second in the Bubbling Under Hot 100, which isn't as impressive but still another chart ranking. At least for Digital Song Sales, doesn't this keep the article within notability guidelines? Johnson524 18:15, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
Well, no. Because it ranked #1 on Digital Song Sales, it's probably going to chart somewhere on the Hot 100 but that is still speculation. This does not indicate standalone notability, though. Per WP:NSONG:
Notability aside, a standalone article is appropriate only when there is enough material to warrant a reasonably detailed article; articles unlikely ever to grow beyond stubs should be merged to articles about an artist or album.
A standalone article about a song should satisfy the above criteria ("they have been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works"). Any of the following factors suggest that a song or single may be notable enough that a search for coverage in reliable independent sources will be successful.
    1. Has been ranked on national or significant music or sales charts. (Note again that this indicates only that a song may be notable, not that it is notable.)
    2. Has won one or more significant awards or honors, such as a Grammy, Latin Grammy, Juno, Mercury, Choice or Grammis award.
    3. Has been independently released as a recording by several notable artists, bands, or groups.
A position on a chart serves an indicator that the song may have enough coverage to warrant an article. However, in this case, it does not. As I mentioned above, the only coverage is in unreliable sources. The entire article, in fact, is sourced to those unreliable sources (because no further coverage exists). There are not enough reliable sources covering the topic to write an article longer than a sentence and a table with the chart positions. It therefore does not warrant its own article — at least not yet. It can always be retrieved from the page history if notability is established later. C F A 💬 18:34, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
@CFA: You state your case really well 🙂 I'll strike my keep comment to redirect, but can the article still be kept in the page's redirect history if more sources ever become available? (they probably won't, but just in case) Cheers! Johnson524 01:28, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
Yes, the redirect is done as just an edit, the history is not deleted. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 01:32, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
    @NatGertler: Thank you for clarifying 🙂 Cheers! Johnson524 02:28, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
Redirect. The article seems to be a mix of rephrased lyrics and many minor non-notable claims to notability. It needs more info about the real-world impact and some commentary on the lyrics, which is even rarer in RS after that forbescon article was retracted. Per WP:NSONG, a standalone article is appropriate only when there is enough material to warrant a reasonably detailed article; articles unlikely ever to grow beyond stubs should be merged to articles about an artist or album. However, a layman reader might have trouble understanding the importance of the article beyond a single sentence: "You Missed is a pro-Trump[a] song by McDonald that was popular[b] after the attempted assassination." The information contained would still be beneficial in a section of the artist's article. 142.113.140.146 (talk) 22:55, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
I mean that's a little bit harsh. There are quite a few sources, its more about their reliability that's the issue. Johnson524 01:25, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to revise your comment. I agree with all of your statements, and since more reliable sources do not exist presently, I believe the article should be redirected to the MacDonald page, and any beneficial information merged into it as well. Happy editing 🙂 Johnson524 03:03, 25 July 2024 (UTC)

I'm not sure if this album is notable. There's a PopMatters review and there's a brief review in HM (magazine) (page 32). According to the Wikipedia article, there's also a Kerrang review, but I wasn't able to find it; according to oldies.com music mail-order company, it at least contained the words "Taking driving riffs and breakdowns from emo and the huge radio-hugging choruses of, say, Journey or Mister Mister, Orange County quintet Takota are on to a winner on this, their debut album." Other than that, there's a Punktastic review, consisting of 10 adjectives, there's an Alternative Vision review (listed as generally unreliable on WP:A/S), and there's a NeuFutur review, a publication I hadn't heard of until today. toweli (talk) 16:20, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

This is an album track with no coverage outside of its parent album. A few low chart positions (the New Zealand one not even on the main chart of that country) is not enough to sustain an article. I am nominating this because my redirection of the article was reverted. This should be redirected to Megan (album) as it fails WP:NSONGS: "Coverage of a song in the context of an album review does not establish notability" and re: point 1, that charting only indicates that a topic may be notable, not that it is. Ss112 19:10, 12 July 2024 (UTC)

Redirect to Megan (album). I agree with the nominator's rationale. Aoba47 (talk) 17:52, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
Keep. Outside of "Mamushi" and "Otaku Hot Girl", "Where Them Girls At" has been considered a future single (and has charted as such), and was more importantly recommended by her fans on X (formerly Twitter) as the landslide choice for the next music video. At bare minimum the page should remain as an album promotional single as it has received early airplay on several Urban radio stations. Trainsskyscrapers (talk) 15:19, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
So you're arguing based on potential future notability? I mean, maybe, but we can't keep based on that. It can always be restored in the future if this happens (and comes with reliable coverage/other signifiers of notability), but not if it hasn't happened yet. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 10:58, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
No. I'm arguing current notability with a potential for increased prominence as the album campaign continues. It seems the only thing separating a song like this (charted, early airplay, better streaming numbers than a majority of the other album tracks, received attention as an early standout on album release day) from a Taylor Swift album track that inevitably charted when the whole project did and received its own page is ... personal preference. Trainsskyscrapers (talk) 03:54, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
Keep. This song has received lots of plays on radio and streaming service. Even if it doesn't end up getting a music video or becoming a single it still has already gotten some charting and been relatively successful. MC-123 (talk) 00:47, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
As stated in the nomination: charting does not mean a song needs an article, and WP:NSONGS states charting is only an indication of notability. There are lots of album tracks with millions of streams out there. It doesn't mean they're notable enough to have an article on Wikipedia. Ss112 22:00, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
Can you provide sources that talk about the song? Being played lots isn't really what we're looking for. Oaktree b (talk) 23:14, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

  • Delete: Non-notable song, no critical coverage, has not charted nor won a Grammy. Coverage is strictly limited to album reviews where this track is mentioned. Not meeting notability... Being a "future hit", isn't good enough. Crystal ball applies. Oaktree b (talk) 23:13, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
It has charted on both national charts and radio-fueled airplay charts. Saying it has not charted is a very bold claim to make when the chart placements are prominently located on the very page you have voted to delete. Trainsskyscrapers (talk) 03:48, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
@Trainsskyscrapers: What is the radio-fueled airplay chart you speak of? None of the three charts listed on the article are primarily or solely airplay charts. Ss112 06:08, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
Those were not present when I !voted. Ok it's charted, but we need sourcing that talks about it. Charting hints at notability, but it's not a free pass. Oaktree b (talk) 22:01, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
@Oaktree b: To be clear, the charting was there when I nominated the page for deletion/redirection. Ss112 04:51, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

The article is based on album reviews for Infinity on High. so it doesn't establish a separate WP:SIGCOV. I searched sources independently and I found two, both from NME,[1][2] one written from Patrick Stump's point of view and the other from Pete Wentz's view. Those sources don't say anything different from what is already said by the sources present in the article. And Infinity on High mentions part of the article's content anyway. (CC) Tbhotch 03:24, 3 July 2024 (UTC)

Redirect to Infinity on High: sources in article only make very brief mentions of the song, and the same goes for the two NME articles the nominator linked. Nowhere near enough for an independent article. I wouldn't oppose a merger if there are any valuable statements included here which aren't already in the album article. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 03:49, 3 July 2024 (UTC)

  • Keep I came here from DYK and I am the editor who approved this article's nomination when it ran on the main page. During the approval process many editors, administrators and readers vetted the article. The article clearly meets our general notability guide. A topic is "notable" if there is enough usable coverage of it in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject, to write a good encyclopedic article. I think that is what we have here, a good encyclopedic article about the song, based on multiple secondary sources. Lightburst (talk) 01:48, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
You can refer to WP:NSONGS: "Coverage of a song in the context of an album review does not establish notability." (CC) Tbhotch 03:47, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
We should not focus on the SNG - WP:NSONG, according to WP:N A topic is presumed to merit an article if: It meets either the general notability guideline (GNG) below, or the criteria outlined in a subject-specific notability guideline (SNG); and t is not excluded under the What Wikipedia is not policy. I believe that it meets GNG based on the RS. Lightburst (talk) 04:06, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
Sadly, they are not a reason to keep the page alone. Some sources are trivial and none of the sources present is about the song alone; they are about the album, regardless on how you'd like to word it. As I said before, just because the sources at Infinity on High#References mention songs like Don't You Know Who I Think I Am?, I've Got All This Ringing in My Ears and None on My Fingers, or Bang the Doldrums, we have to create their articles based on album reviews that trivially reviewed them from the album's perspective, like it occured with Thriller (Fall Out Boy song).
On the talk page I left the sources review. I don't see the independent, non-trivial, non-passing mentions content that indicate significant coverage that is independent from the parent album. I see sources speaking about the song from the album's context focusing on being named after a Michael Jackson album and inadvertently having a rap intro by Jay-Z, both facts that can be covered by the album's composition section.
As much as you'd like to keep the page, this hadn't had to run on the main page in the first place and you made a mistake by approving an article built on trivialities. Proof of this is the fact that this song hasn't been discussed by critics in subsequent releases thoroughly and it needs to have a background that doesn't even mention the song and has to rely exclusively on trivial album mentions. (CC) Tbhotch 04:31, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
You have made seven edits to the article and you have typed 6527 characters (1062 words) in an effort to remove an article that is only 2963 characters (517 words). This AfD time-suck is an example of why I am not as active in deletion lately. You have lost credibility in your source assessment because I randomly looked at #9: you referred to three full paragraphs discussing the song as a passing mention. And #15 you refer to an article which features this song as one of 15 heaviest songs as a passing mention. I am not going to focus on all the WP:OTHERSTUFF arguments. Also I really need to start observing WP:COAL and maybe you should too. Lightburst (talk) 19:25, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

  • Merge to Infinity on High. Talking about editors' statistical contributions rarely impresses a closer, especially when it fails to engage with the nominator's primary argument: all coverage presented or applied seems in connection to the album, not to the song by itself. I made a reasonable BEFORE, and I saw nothing where the song was the sole focus of the piece. BusterD (talk) 14:36, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
