"You Missed" is a song by the Canadian rapper Tom MacDonald. It was self-released as a single on July 14, 2024, 12 hours after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. The single, containing elements of political rap and hip hop, follows MacDonald voicing his frustrations about the shooting and the current state of the United States, condemning the left-wing polices he believes led to it.

The single saw immediate popularity from being released very shortly after the event, placing first on US iTunes charts and second on YouTube's. The message of the single has received mixed reviews from political commentators.
Music and lyrics
editThe single contains a blend of both political rap and hip hop genres in it.[1] The description of the single's music video posted on YouTube on July 14, 2024, reads "I made this beat, wrote this song & shot the video last night."[2] MacDonald, known for making music appealing to Republican and right-wing audiences, had previously made music entering the Billboard Hot 100 with his songs "Snowflake", "Fake Woke", and his 2024 single "Facts", which included right-wing political commentator Ben Shapiro as a cameo.[3][4]
The single primarily follows MacDonald voicing his frustrations about the shooting and the current state of the United States, alongside his condemnation of Democratic or "left" policies which led to this point.[3] In addition to the shooting; right-wing views on political topics such as transgender identity, illegal immigration, and the politicization of science were also brought up.[3] The chorus of the single, including the lines "Bitch you missed" and "Thank God the left can't aim" also call out liberal left-wing politics as responsible for trying to rid Trump from office,[3] and condemns those who were upset the assassination failed.[4][5]
Reception and charts
editThe single saw immediate success upon releasing only 12 hours after the attempted assassination attempt.[3][6] Within eight hours of the single's debut on July 14, it reached the top spot on iTunes charts in the US.[4][7][8] The single's music video on YouTube also reached 1.7 million views in 21 hours, and reached the second spot on YouTube's Trending Music chart, behind only "Not Like Us" by Kendrick Lamar.[9] Right-wing political commentator Michael Knowles called the song "real political art" and praised the speed at which the song was released.[6] Other reviews were critical of the single like American journalist Roger Friedman, who called it "Tone deaf? Tasteless? Too soon? All of the above."[7]
