History edit

2021-2022: Formation, "Miss Me", "Distracted" and "Ride" edit

Honey Revenge were first formed in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic when a video of vocalist Papadol was spreading online and Lloyd got in contact asking if they knew of any bands that had vacancies for a guitarist. Lloyd, who was moving from Georgia to Los Angeles would later join the band after sending an audition video.[2]

The band's debut single, "Miss Me", which was originally written for a previous band project by Papadol,[2] was released in November 2021 and was shortly followed by their second single, "Distracted" which was accompanied by their second music video.[3] These tracks would get the duo signed to Thriller Records[4] in mid-2022, their first track with the label being "Ride", which was described by Kerrang! as a "hugely infectious, summery new single".[1] November 2022 would bring the second single from their upcoming album, "Rerun", which was written about "living the same day over and over again with no payoff" which Papadol says is likely due to the pandemic.[2]

2023-present: Retrovision edit

"Are You Impressed?" would shortly follow behind their string of singles in February 2023, describing "dealing with a need to constantly be productive and well liked in a world where everything we do is documented and put online," supported by a music video.[5] This single would be followed by the announcement of their debut, 12-track album, Retrovision, for release in June.[6] "Airhead" would also be released alongside the announcement as a further single from the album, a "self-sabotage anthem".[7] The duo would also be announced to support Arrows in Action on the US leg of their tour.[8] The final two singles from the album would be "Worst Apology"[9] and "Favorite Song."[10] The album would go on to receive positive reviews from Kerrang! and Distorted Sound Magazine. A music video for "Habitual" would also be released and the pair's first show in the UK would be announced.[11] In October 2023, they were set to be supporting Meet Me at the Altar on their "Say It To My Face" North American Tour,[12] as well as announcing a UK tour in early 2024.[13]

Artistry edit

Papadol says she's mostly inspired by "Disney-rock", with artists like Demi Lovato, but also "edgier pop" of P!nk and Katy Perry, as well as the influence from the "metalcore scene" with bands like Paramore, who she actually got to sing on-stage with when she was younger.[14][15] Guitarist Lloyd takes inspiration from the likes of You Me at Six and Pierce The Veil.[15]
