Still active?

I've moved Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America countries to the Inactive section of the WikiProject page, as it hasn't been edited since Nov 1st; I wanted to let you all know, and ask if you're still working on it. If so, feel free to move it back up into the active section. JesseW 08:02, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

WikiReader

What about a Wikipedia:WikiReader on Latin America countries. There are about 20 countries. So with 2-3 pages on each country we can have 50-60 articles. In the long term, we can have 5-10 articles/country that mean a book 100-200 pages. Someone interrested in the project ?--Youssef 18:48, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Sounds like a cool idea. I'll definitely help out if you want to start it up. It looks pretty simple – we would just essentially have to copy the country articles over, though some of them probably need some serious work. But I don't mind learning about little Latin American countries. Also, we could do them on specific countries in the future, especially the ones with lots of articles (like Mexico, once I get the Culture of Mexico article in better shape). --Spangineer 03:51, Jan 31, 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team cooperation

Hello. I'm a member of the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing articles using these criteria, and we are are asking for your help. As you are most aware of the issues surrounding your focus area, we are wondering if you could provide us with a list of the articles that fall within the scope of your WikiProject, and that are either featured, A-class, B-class, or Good articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Do you have any recommendations? If you do, please post your suggestions at the listing of all active Places WikiProjects, and if you have any questions, ask me in the Work Via WikiProjects talk page or directly in my talk page. Thanks a lot! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 18:34, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 15:33, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 20:04, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Bilateral relations discussion

I would like to invite you all to participate in a discussion at this thread regarding bilateral relations between two countries. All articles related to foreign relations between countries are now under the scope of WikiProject Foreign relations, a newly created project. We hope that the discussion will result in a more clean and organized way of explaining such relationships. Thank you. Ed ¿Cómo estás? 17:58, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Guinea pig

Hi, this article just passed GA status and in the interest of making it as comprehensive as possible, I was wondering if anyone from this WikiProject might want to give it a lookover and see how its coverage of the animal as a facet of Andean culture rates. Thanks! Chubbles 20:19, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

South America in 1705

For Jesuit Missions of Chiquitos which is currently at WP:FAC, I would like to know what the different regions in South America marked in File:America-1705.jpg are. One of the green areas is likely the Viceroyalty of Peru, another maybe the New Kingdom of Granada, but I cannot make sense of the other regions nor of the color scheme used. (Colors might not have a meaning and are maybe chosen in a way not to have regions of the same color border each other.) Can somebody identify the other areas in South America? Are they political areas at all or rather geographic? bamse (talk) 19:28, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Anti-clericalism in Latin America

I have concluded that Wikipedia does not cover the topic of anti-clericalism in Latin America very well. To remedy these deficiencies, I have done some very basic research and created an article titled Anti-clericalism in Latin America. This is really just a somewhat longish stub. It is not even a start as it only covers the subtopics that have been discussed in Catholic Church and other related Wikipedia articles.

The article needs to be expanded to provide a more comprehensive treatment of the topic.

Your assistance is solicited to improve this new article.

--Richard S (talk) 10:59, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

I have now added History of Roman Catholicism in Latin America History of Roman Catholicism in Hispano-America which, at the moment, focuses on anti-clericalism in Latin America and Liberation Theology. More needs to be added to make this article a more comprehensive treatment of the topic. Your assistance is solicited to improve this new article. --Richard S (talk) 23:15, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Update - the article History of Roman Catholicism in Hispano-America now covers the period from the Spanish conquest through Liberation theology. --Richard S (talk) 01:15, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Countries

I'm now going around and adding templates to all the Latin American country articles. Zazaban (talk) 21:30, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

OK. I wanted to talk about the focus of the project though. I think it would be best to focus on "Latin America-level" topics, where there are regional or cross-country issues, rather than tagging every article at all related to Latin America, which in theory we could do. The theory is that the more specific articles are already well-covered by the regional or country projects. Of course, many of these are not very active, so it would make a sense if the project evolved a wider focus over time; but I don't think we should force it. For now, I've added Category:Latin America articles to the regional wikiproject templates (South America, Central America, Caribbean), so articles with those will show up as well. (This is mainly for the Article Alert feature.) Also I want to make a "Latin America project invite" template (like WP:VEN has). How does that sound? Rd232 talk 08:15, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
Sounds fine. I wasn't planning on getting more specific than the summary country articles. Zazaban (talk) 08:41, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Latin America articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Latin America articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

For the Wikipedia 1.0 editorial team, SelectionBot 23:14, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 21:03, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Popular pages

Would anyone be opposed to adding this project to the Popular pages project? This will cause a list of the most popular (based on pageview statistics) pages within the scope of the project to be created monthly. This is a useful tool to identify frequently-viewed pages that are not up to par, quality-wise. For a project like this one, it may also help to clarify its current scope and so assist in the refining of the scope. See for example Wikipedia:WikiProject Argentina/Popular pages. Proposed deletion of Morales Pino Trío

The article Morales Pino Trío has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for references found 2 minor mentions in published WPRS, fails WP:N

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Jeepday (talk) 01:23, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

I did a quick Google on "Trío Morales Pino" (Spanish word order) and it returned over 13,000 hits, I think that makes the subject notable even though I know nothing about Colombian music. They seem to have been quite influentual in the early 20th century, so I've removed the deletion template. Simon Burchell (talk) 12:54, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Pageview stats

After a recent request, I added WikiProject Latin America to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the toolserver tool. If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! Mr.Z-man 00:47, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Popular pages tool update

As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 05:13, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's main talk page.

Thanks, and happy editing!

Improving the history section of Latin America

If you go to the article, you will note it is a bit sparse, and has a strong focus on US relations. Also, about 130 years of history is missing completely. This needs to be improved very badly and I would say should be a current priority. Zazaban (talk) 20:36, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/Archive 1/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/Archive 1/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 00:42, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Street Children in Latin America

I am currently a student at Rice University pursuing a minor in Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities (PJHC). One of the minor's projects is to improve the quality of Wikipedia articles on issues related to social inequality. I have chosen to improve the Street Child article by creating a related article about "Street Children in Latin America." Because my article discusses Latin America, I thought I would post on this page to invite you all to read and possibly contribute to my page.

Although Latin America is a fairly broad region to study, many researchers have been able to adequately assess and study street children in certain Latin American regions (i.e. Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala) and then generalize and apply their research to all of Latin America. Most researchers have grouped street children in Latin America into two categories: home-based street children and street-based street children. The former refers to children that spend their days on the streets but have physical homes and families to return to--but are forced to search for work on the streets because of poverty. The latter refers to children without physical homes, children who work, sleep, eat, and play on the streets. Although it is difficult to determine just how many street children currently exist in Latin America, some sources such as UNICEF estimate that as many as 45% of children in Latin America are, will be, or have been street children at some point (home-based or street-based). These numbers are debatable, but the underlying issue of street children remains.

Once I'm done with the article, I'll post a link to it. Meanwhile, if anyone has any suggestions for sources or is interested in collaborating with me on the article, please let me know.

UNASUR flag is not Latin American flag

There is too many articles that have the UNASUR flag placed when refering to Latin America, and that is a big error.

  = UNASUR (~=South America)
  = Member States of UNASUR
  = Latin America

The error of placing UNASUR flag to represent latin america is somewhat widespread across wikipedia, since there is no Latin America flag and probable ther will not ever be one (because there is no reason for one, we need to change when UNASUR flag its used as "Latin America flag" and replace it with something like   that represent way better or just delete the UNASUR flag when is wrong placed as latin america flag.

Most of the problem is visible when articles include info regarding broadcasting rights on articles related to events, (sport events as example) i replaced some i came across, but there must be some way to identify this problem and fix it faster then manually search every instance of articles that link to UNASUR flag looking if it reference is about latin america or not.--WiZaRd SaiLoR (talk) 16:26, 13 June 2016 (UTC)

Help with an article?

I'm going to post this in a few places just so it gets a good amount of people looking at the article in question. The article for Animal World, the first published book by Antonio di Benedetto, is up for deletion. It looks like there should be coverage out there, as there is mention here and there about the book getting various accolades including a national prize, but I can't really find much. This is partially because of the language barrier, as most coverage is going to be in Spanish, but it's also likely because most of the coverage predated the Internet and as such may not be on the Internet as a whole or in places that we'd all know to check.

Anyone here want to see what they can find? It might be a good chance for a WP:HEY rescue. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:00, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

2016 Community Wishlist Survey Proposal to Revive Popular Pages

Greetings WikiProject Latin America/Archive 1 Members!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.

Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Best regards, SteviethemanDelivered: 18:03, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Rare drawings of Brazilian animals by 17th-century Dutch painter Frans Post now on Wikimedia Commons

Frans Post (1612-1680) was a Dutch painter from Haarlem belonging to the Dutch School. Between 1636-1644, he received a commission from John Maurice of Nassau, then governor of Brazil, to travel to Brazil and document its people, nature and landscape. During his time in Brazil, Post made drawings and sketches of animals, which he probably used as studies for his paintings. Thirty-four of these drawings were recently discovered in the Noord-Hollands Archief. The archive has graciously made the digitised drawings available for re-use on Wikimedia Commons. Chile

Hoping that someone is here on this "semi-active" project page!

There are a number of issues with the Chile article which I have listed here, namely: POV, promotional content, unsourced content, content that is either hardly comprehensible or meaningless. As the article is semi-protected, it would be great if some registered user might have a look. (I don't think I want to register at this point in time).

As this article appears to have a pretty high rating on several project importance scales, it seems too bad if these issues are left sitting in there. Thanks, --93.212.232.58 (talk) 08:16, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Popular pages report

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/Archive 1/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Latin America.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Latin America, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Scope

I am truly mortified by the inclusions of Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana (and possibly Suriname), as having not only a scope within this project but cleanup aspects and privileges, while Haiti, a legitimate Latin American country does not. Who is in charge of this project? Please ping me back in response. This is unacceptable. Savvyjack23 (talk) 19:40, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

@Savvyjack23: Huh? Haiti is clearly listed under the Latin-America-related WikiProjects... (no, I'm not in charge, btw) –FlyingAce✈hello 20:02, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
FlyingAce, thank you for a response. In regards to the "scope" however, I could have been fooled. On this "Latin-America-related WikiProjects" list, I had included Haiti [1], as well as the Spanish-speaking countries and territories in the Caribbean that were left out (Cuba etc.) [2] I had recently removed Belize, Guyana, and Suriname (all English speaking nations and obtained independence from the UK in the second half of the 20th century) while keeping the disputed territories of Argentina and the UK (Falkland Islands etc.). [3]
To date, there are 7 articles pertaining to Haiti that are tagged by this project. [4] I had tagged 4 of 7 of these articles. [5], [6], [7], [8]. That is a total of 0.0018% that weren't tagged by me. I will say it again, virtually 0% is the coverage for Haiti-related articles. 5 are covered for Belize [9], 5 for Guyana [10], 5 for Trinidad and Tobago, 2 for Suriname [11] and although a low percentage as well (0.0097), it is still higher combined than an actual Latin-derived speaking country in the region.
People may argue, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana etc. were once occupied by the Spanish "and so by association etc." -but then again who wasn't? Name a country below the United States that wasn't once controlled by the Spanish, Portuguese or the French. Even California, New Mexico, Florida, Texas, and Louisiana were all one time controlled by Spain.
The only ones I did not tag was Unification of Hispaniola, which also pertains to what is now the Dominican Republic (Latin American) and [[Category:Discographies of Haitian artists]], but hardly an admirable effort even for a project that is only now "semi-active", while pages such as Dear Land of Guyana, of Rivers and Plains is tagged; this is the target of my ire. Why on earth are pages like this tagged, while pages like Toussaint Louverture and Alexandre Pétion are not? If it weren't for the aid of Pétion, who knows if the creation of Gran Colombia would have happened. Simon Bolivar is even quoted saying, "Should I not let it be known to later generations that Alexandre Pétion is the true liberator of my country?" (U.S. Owes Haitian Gratitude, Not Abuse (Robert, Pascal), Huffington Post: The Importance of Haiti (Allen, Alexander))
There has always been a trilateral alliance between Cuba-Haiti-Venezuela. The music of Haiti also contributed greatly to Cuba and other countries in the region especially through the use of the drum. (See: Tumba francesa, Champeta etc.) One of Haiti's most renowned compas bands, had an album entirely in Spanish even. (See: Tabou Combo) This band was at one time the most crazed band in Panama. Yet Talk:Soca music, is tagged within the project via use of a bot! [12] --Arbitrarily0Bot
In the project's Collaboration#New articles cleanup, Trinidad and Tobago again gets some sort of validity and has a bot to perform this data, while Haiti (and even Cuba) are left off.
So I believe that I have a real valid argument. Moving forward, if this project ever becomes (or is) active, what are we going to do about this? There is no adherence to the map of Latin America whatsoever. If I am missing something, please stop me. Savvyjack23 (talk) 03:32, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

Ending the system of portals

Hello, there's a proposal to delete all Wikipedia portals. Please see the discussion here. --NaBUru38 (talk) 14:03, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:45, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Hello, there's a discussion going on about removing an honorific from the Infobox at Augusto Pinochet. Your feedback would be appreciated at Talk:Augusto Pinochet#Honorific in Infobox. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 06:23, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

Women in Red translation contest: April to June 2022

At the beginning of April, WikiProject Women in Red is launching a three-month translation contest focused on increasing our coverage of women's biographies. As the Portuguese and Spanish versions of Wikipedia are among the most popular sources for translation, members of WikiProject Latin America may be interested in participating.--Ipigott (talk) 09:25, 26 March 2022 (UTC)

Notice of RfC on Marcelo Kohen

Hello everyone. RfC available for comment for Marcelo Kohen (Professor of International Law at IHEID Geneva and Secretary-General of the Institut de Droit International, the oldest international law association and Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1904), for whom surprisingly there was no Wikipedia article. He is an Argentine citizen, founded the Latin American Society of International Law, and has represented several Latin American states at the International Court of Justice (including Argentina and Colombia).

Thank you!

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

RFC on Modern Taino Identity

I'd appreciate your input on this topic to resolve some long disputed issues about modern Taino movements. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Taíno#Request_for_Comment_on_Modern_Taino_Identity Poketama (talk) 22:54, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

Requested move at Talk:Death and state funeral of Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani#Requested move 25 September 2022

There is a requested move discussion at Talk:Death and state funeral of Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani#Requested move 25 September 2022 that may be of interest to members of this WikiProject. UtherSRG (talk) 10:50, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

That probably was cryptic... why do we care about that? This RM involves about 50 state funeral articles, including at least one that is related to this WP. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:09, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

Further info – the proposal is to move all articles titled "Death and state funeral of..." to "Death and funeral of...". As far as I can tell, the articles related to this WikiProject are Death and state funeral of Fidel Castro, Death and state funeral of Néstor Kirchner, and Death and state funeral of Raúl Alfonsín. –FlyingAce✈hello 17:13, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

Carla Vernón

Carla Vernón is my sister. She is the incoming Afro-Latina CEO of The Honest Company, with a start date of January 9 2023. I am trying to get someone else to create the article to avoid the strongly discouraged WP:COI editorial involvement. I am hoping someone will create the article soon so it can appear at WP:DYK on January 9. You can find source links at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Women_in_Red#Carla_Vernón.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 17:17, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

Afro-Latina

At Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Women_in_Business#Carla_Vernón we are trying to determine the first Afro-Latina CEO of a publicly traded U.S. company-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 21:49, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Article request

There is a fairly in-depth article on the es:Conservatorio Nacional de Música (Guatemala) on the Spanish language wikipedia. If someone has the language skills to translate this to the English wiki, or write something of their own it would make a good addition to the English wikipedia's coverage of both Guatemala and the music of Latin America.4meter4 (talk) 19:15, 30 April 2023 (UTC)

I think it's a great idea. I'll see if I can start a draft. –FlyingAce✈hello 21:53, 30 April 2023 (UTC)

Forced sterilization in Peru needs a lookover

The Forced sterilization in Peru page previously claimed as outright fact that USAID and other NGOs funded forced sterilizations. However as far as I can tell the academic consensus is that they didn't, and claims that they did come from right-wing organisations seeking to undermine birth control etc. I've cleaned it up a bit but it could really do with a full lookover to see if it reflects the academic consensus. There are probably quite a few other articles that repeat these claims as well. Eldomtom2 (talk) 19:58, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
