Merge "Anime" with "television" / "Anime film" with "film"

Given that the article naming conventions discussed at WP:NCTV#Series television and MOS:ANIME#Article names and disambiguation indicate that both live-action television and anime television series should be renamed accordingly as "TV series" only, is it OK to merge those sections too on the list of roles on the actors' pages? I feel like those roles shouldn't really be separated... the reason most of them are like this is because a lot of pages were translated from the Japanese Wikipedia, which uses separate words to differentiate between anime film, live-action films, anime TV series, live-action TV series, and variety shows, etc.

• Combining sections would look like this: Shohei Hashimoto#Television, Nozomi Maeda, Jenya (I discerned which roles were voice acting in the "Notes/Ref" section)
• Leaving the sections separate would look like this: Shouta Aoi, Keisuke Ueda

I disagree with merging all the roles across all filmographies. This can be done where there are just a handful of voice roles like in Dwayne Johnson filmography for a mostly live-action actor, which is what Shohei Hashimoto is, and yes you can specify "voice role" instead of saying it's an anime and keep it in the Television section. For voice actors, there's a useful distinction to split their voice-acting work from their live-action work, and to further distinguish their ADR dubbing (taking a film that's already been dubbed in another language) and originating the voice role for animation (they record the voice and then the studio develops the animation around their voice). The other thing is that when the show gets dubbed in English, there really isn't a distinction between OVA bonus episodes and TV series; they get treated the same when they are placed in the boxset. On the flip side, you have a Japanese voice actor like Atsuko Tanaka (voice actress) who originates a bunch of anime films, but also dubs English live-action films and television shows. So would you say it's situational? These days there are so many voice actors who also initially debuted as actors in Japan. Mamoru Miyano, Kensho Ono, and Toshiyuki Toyonaga are examples of people who transitioned into voice work, but they still appear in live-action roles. Yukika Teramoto also was a full-time voice actress at one point in her career but has since returned to live-action acting. And as for variety shows, I understand one-time appearances don't count, but what if they were regular panelists or hosts? Yes, it would be situational. See Mao Ichimichi who has a career in both live-action acting and voice acting. The subcats there split by Television and Film instead of Anime, so I agree it doesn't have to necessarily be Anime or Animation, which as I said before, would be more appropriate for English voice actors. Also note how Mao's dubs of foreign films are under voice acting / other dubbing, even though they are live-action films, direct-to-videos, or television shows. On the English voice acting side, you have Jennifer Hale filmography where she might have done one or two anime shows in her career, so those go into "Animation and television voice-over" If you want to try to standardize the subsections for Japanese VAs and then another one for English VAs, that might be worth doing. God Eater

Hello all, I'm a new editor trying to get experience editing a variety of different articles. I've started editing God Eater, after I finished watching all 14 episodes on Netflix. If anyone can provide feedback on my incremental edits which I hope to make over the next week, it would be much appreciated. I started with the plot summary today. Thank you. It looks OK so far, but the episode summaries seem a bit long. It should ideally be 200 words or less per episode. Some of the summaries also need to be adjusted for tone; i.e. the summary for episode 13 ends with "While Soma is on a mission, a shadow can be seen looking over him...this person brings various canned foods to an unseen man....this man was smoking." and that doesn't seem to be very encyclopedic. lullabying (talk) 22:01, 23 September 2019 (UTC)

next new season to Black Clover

Earlier on, Black Clover (season 2) or season 3, from MOS:TVUPCOMING. Is there a further part (more info) if the season is renewed, but the theme songs hasn't been announced yet. Is it good enough to WP:SPLIT? Because at first, I thought leaving an episode listing there without an few mentions to the theme songs. (a ref pointing to; who is it sung by.) And a few days ago on Black Clover (season 2) some one added the newly announced theme songs. So I looked at the said info, and from google. The info first directed me to wikia/ fandom. It depends of the amount of sources and new content we might provide. For example, Production I.G made an official announcment Psycho-Pass's 3rd season including length, staff members and singers and when does it premier. If the developers of the Black Clover anime announced they were making a third season then it's possible. Copying content from the wikia is not good unless they provide sources. In any case, be bold and undo the split or interact with other users. I remember some seasons from Katekyo Hitman Reborn were made from the fork guideline where the new season divisions were announced late.Tintor2 (talk) 21:50, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

The theme songs came from wikia/ fandom. The Spanish version to Crunchyroll just told the theme songs; [1]. So far there hasn't been any new sources saying that season 3 is happening yet. Then the old refs/ sources was from Black Clover (season 2). So I should undo my edits from today? But, from the split the other user removed the info and add it to Black Clover (season 3). If the season hasn't premiered or there is not enough content to create the new list I would say be bold and wait for the moment. I am thinking about that similarly in regards to Psycho-Pass's 3rd season. Maybe Sjones can help by providing his idea considering he worked on the first seasons.

I feel that the info for Black Clover (season 3) would be put back to Black Clover (season 2) and redirect Black Clover (season 3) to List of Black Clover episodes. Until funimation has listed that, after episode 103 and later on is considered to be the 3rd season. By hovering by here and see if their episode section did added season 3. Ah, but before with refs/ sources with Black Clover. Most of the time anything that is new. For some reason, the thing about that. It could be used as a ref that was just announced from the manga's magazine via by ann (anime news network.) Which in a few days after the anime website just did the same. Specified citations needed

I managed to expand Psycho-Pass: The Movie using notes from the DVD as well as multiple interviews translated from a guidebook. However, in case I were to nominate the article (of course following a big copyedit) I would need the specified page numbers for the guidebook. Does anybody have a tumblr account? The Leader (web series)

I noticed The Leader (web series) is currently being considered an anime and manga series. I have no knowledge of the work but it seems to be completely Chinese-made and released, yet media still calls it an anime. To me, this series seems to fall under the first bullet listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Anime_and_manga#What_topics_we_do_not_cover and therefore I believe should not be covered by this project. Manga demographic issue

I just want to bring attention to Shōnen Jump+ and this ANN interview where the editor-in-chief of Weekly Shōnen Jump stated that "[Weekly Shōnen Jump] works are mainly aimed at teenage boys. [...] But with Jump+, things are a little looser. Some of the works are aimed at adults or at women." We have articles for at least three Jump+ series, Boys Over Flowers Season 2, Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku, and Spy × Family. This means our categorization of these works as Shōnen manga might not be accurate. I understand that labeling them as such based only on the title of the app seems acceptable, but we could also just leave it blank and so I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of this issue. This is just thought, but in the case a fictional character has an alternate persona written by somebody else who does completely different stuff with enough content, would it warrant a split? TV series vs. List of episodes articles

• Discussion seems to be populated almost entirely by frequent editors of television articles misapplying their MOS policy to anime adaptations, which differ on a notability basis. The question at hand is not whether MOS:TVSPLIT should apply to the page for a TV anime series, but first of all whether that page should exist at all, under WP:NOPAGE. Maybe it's time for WP:VILLAGE

It seems WP:TV doesn't recognize the decisions made. Its either done by people completely unfamiliar to anime or just believe WP:TV's policies should be the final decision, even if it doesn't fit the situation. One thing is very clear: the editors of WP:TVSHOW don't want to discuss this directly with WP:ANIME about their concerns. I recommend we take the imitative and should go to WP:VILLAGE and should establish a line of how much WP:TVSHOW covers.

Well there are two instances for this situation: Talk:One-Punch Man#End date and Season 3 and most recently, Talk:List of Toriko episodes#Requested move 26 October 2019. The same editors pop up and the changes they request are just out of principle of following WP:TVSHOW's guidelines. I don't want to wait for a third. I just happen to see the third season to A Certain Scientific Railgun. Is this too soon to be made yet? Then on the main page to List of A Certain Scientific Railgun episodes is showing a lot of display errors? If Railgun T doesn't contain an episode list or table yet? Franchise or tv series

I'm sorry for beating a dead horse, but I'm still confused how the article Psycho-Pass should be handled. I think it became GA before the second anime started so it has been expanded a lot. Originally, it was just an article of a television series but now it is an article of a media franchise. Should the article be rearranged? I mean, like having a franchise article, an season 1 article which would be combined with the episode list similar to Neon Genesis Evangelion (franchise)? I'm not that familiar with writing direct anime series (I did write Scryed but that series happened to last only 26 episodes) but I wonder if the creation and reception sections from the first and second seasons should be moved to their episode lists which would be retitled Psycho Pass (television series) and Psycho-Pass 2. Tintor2, if you want to split off the franchise, I would structure it like the Neon Genesis Evangelion one where the TV series is primary topic and carries the title, and the (franchise) page is more a listing of the different media. Regarding the seasons, I would rename the list of episodes to Psycho-Pass (season 1) and Psycho-Pass (season 2) as with Stranger Things. Whether to create (franchise) is up to you. There are others that have a franchise but have not spun out yet, like Initial D, Bleach (franchise) redirects to Bleach (manga), and Naruto is still at Naruto for all franchise stuff. I think we should have a discussion about standardizing the format for these pages, as the MOS for our WikiProject is quite light on the subject. Here are some potential topics:

Lead sentence

Examples of variation:

Kana Hanazawa (花澤 香菜, Hanazawa Kana, born February 25, 1989) is a Japanese voice actress and singer represented by the Office Osawa talent agency.

Hiroshi Kamiya (神谷 浩史, Kamiya Hiroshi, born January 28, 1975) is a Japanese voice actor, singer and narrator affiliated with Aoni Production.

Saori Hayami (早見 沙織, Hayami Saori, born May 29, 1991) is a Japanese voice actress, singer and narrator. She is represented by the agency I'm Enterprise.

Aoi Yūki (悠木 碧, Yūki Aoi, born March 27, 1992) is a Japanese actress, voice actress and singer represented by Pro-Fit.

Some questions:

A1. Should their be interlinks for a person's occupation? If so, should the phrase "voice actor/actress" link to Voice acting in Japan, or something else? What about "Japanese voice actor/actress"?

A2. What is the correct verb to use to describe the relation between a voice actor and their agency? "Affiliated with", "represented by", or something else?

A3. Should one sentence or two be used to convey this information?

Some pages have a (sometimes different) list in the "notable work" section of the "Infobox person" -- see Chiwa Saitō and Jun Fukuyama for example

Some pages do not list this information at all

Some questions:

B1. Should notable work be stated on the page at all? If it is stated, should it be in the lead paragraph, infobox, or both?

B2. How should "notable roles" be determined? Should they be stated in some kind of order (like "most notable" to least), or in a random order?

They also use several varying sub-section titles, in highly varying orders:

• Anime, TV Series, Anime series, Television animation, TV Anime
• Films, Anime Films, Anime series, Animated films, Theatrical animation
• Live-action films, Live action (in combination with above)
• Original video animation (OVA), Original video animation (for ones without, they seem to be under the "anime" section)
• Original net animation (ONA), Original net animation (same as above)
• Dubbing, Dubbing roles (on one page, separated into live-action and animation)

Some questions:

C1. Should the format be a bulleted list or a table? If a table, what columns should be a part of it, and should they be sortable or not?

C2. What should standard sub-section titles look like, keeping in mind that many voice actors also have live-action and dubbing roles to consider?

C3. What should the sourcing look like, considering these tables are mostly copied from wiki-like sources like ANN (which has sources) or MAL?

C4. Is the "Discography" section within the scope of this project? If so, many questions similar to the ones above apply.

Those are pretty much the main things that I wanted to the bring to everyone's attention, please let me know what you think. I think some of these might just be a matter of putting in the manpower to bring pages up the standards of WP:TV or WP:MOS, but I also think that there are some things that need to outlined explicitly by members of our Project. — Goszei (talk) 01:02, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

Goszei, a lot of your questions are answered over at WP:ANIME/BIO on how the voice actor pages have been standardized. But here are some answers for the first part:

• A1) Regarding links for person's occupation: "Japanese voice actor" or "Japanese voice actress" should link to Voice acting in Japan per MOS:SPECIFICLINK. It should not be listed as [[Japanese]] [[voice actor]] or [[Seiyu]]. For infobox, occupation can be filled in as "voice actor" or "voice actress".
• A2) Relation to agency is optional. This depends if they are strongly tied to a particular agency. Sometimes the voice actor has their own agency or has switched around a lot, so then it wouldn't make any sense. For musicians, this would be the equivalent of mentioning what label they are on. Agency is fairly notable in infobox for Japanese voice actors, but not really for American or other voice actors.
• A3) It doesn't have to be one sentence but you can follow the usual WP:BLPLEAD
• B1) Notable roles should be on the lead paragraph so that they easily identify why the person is notable. They should not be in the infobox unless there's something that's very strongly tied to the person like Ikue Ohtani = Voice of Pikachu. If they have many major roles such as with Kana Hanazawa, then they don't need to be listed in the infobox.
• B2) Notable roles would be like the top 3-5 roles. This would be how you would explain to others why the person is notable.
• Filmography. Follow WP:FILMOGRAPHY practices, but you can see there what the tables should look like. You can also follow the filmography format I use in WP:ANIME/BIO, which has year, title, role, notes, refs.
• C1) Bullet list or table. Depends on how many entries. If you have just a handful, keep the bullet list. If you've got tens to hundreds, the table is nice. I sort by date released.
• C2) Headers. This really depends on the voice actor and origin. For Japanese voice actors, there's Voice-over for Television, Films, Video games, Other dubbing (voiceover / ADR for non-Japanese live-action works). If you want to split OVA from Television, that's okay too; they're like direct-to-videos. For English voice actors, I separate Anime (which is mostly ADR / dubbing) from Animation (where they have more originating voice roles / they create animation around the person's voice rather than make the person try to match flaps). Live-action filmographies are usually separate sections (see Mao Ichimichi).
• C3) Sourcing, see WP:ANIME/BIO. They have suggestions on what sources are appropriate since you can't use IMDb or ANN encyclopedia portion. There is another database called GamePlaza Haruka Voice Acting Database (VADB) that you can use, or possibly Media Arts Database (MADB).
• C4) Discography tables should follow the formats of used in WP:DISCOGRAPHY. If they have a lot of character CDs or Drama CDs, but it's treated as a discography section.

In my opinion, the agency they are affiliated or representing isn't that important for general readers and familiar readers either. I'm not against it being in the lead. When i read "Kana Hanazawa (花澤 香菜, Hanazawa Kana, born February 25, 1989) is a Japanese voice actress and singer represented by the Office Osawa talent agency." as a single sentence, it kind of confuses me on how relevant it is in the article. Maybe the voice acting in Japan article should be expanded until its a GA article because the article doesn't cover anything about the relevance of talent agencies.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 06:42, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

Some voice actors and, especially singers, are managed exclusively by companies that kind of have a loyal following. This is especially true with musical acts such as in J-pop and K-pop, where groups under one company would often collaborate with each other. For example, Iris (Japanese band) and Lisp (group) were managed by Dive II Entertainment and both voice actress groups were closely tied with the Pretty Rhythm franchise. Just to add onto my previous point, I'm kind of more used to seeing this on pages where the actors/actresses are primarily idol singers, such as Yui Ogura, who started out as a trainee for Up-Front Works. I don't think readers really care about actors/actresses being tied to a specific company, but it's more important for singers, especially since their whole public image is tied to and is representative of their company when it comes to endorsement deals. lullabying (talk) 07:56, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

I took another look at this discussion and it's kind of similar to the one I started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anime and manga/Archive_73#Merge "Anime" with "television" / "Anime film" with "film". Here's my two cents on the matter:

1. Companies aren't really important unless the voice actor in question is primarily a singer (preferably as an idol). I noticed WP:WikiProject Korea and idol music articles, these are mentioned a lot primarily for the reasons I stated before: their whole public image is tied to their company and endorsement deals. Also, their agent may not be necessarily the same as their record label. Plus, there's the potential of in-company collaborations. But I don't feel very strongly about this so it can go either way.

Examples of singers with company mentioned: Kana Hanazawa

Examples of singers with company NOT mentioned: Yukika Teramoto (because she is represented by two different companies in Japan and Korea), Koharu Kusumi, Aya Hirano

Examples of groups with company mentioned: Lisp (group), Shugo Chara Egg!

1. As for the list of works, this is going to be a controversial opinion. I find that distinguishing "anime film" and "film" may be too long, but I fear possibly argument with WP:TV again. Ideally, I'd like to combine "anime" and "TV" roles like "anime film and live-action film" roles but in the "notes" section, distinguish whether it is live-action or voice.

This is the case with Haruka Tomatsu, who was in a tokusatsu role where she voiced a character's original form but appeared on camera as her human form.

ChocoMimi is live-action for the most part but they have animated segments and the official TV Tokyo website calls it both an "anime" and a "drama." Where would it fall under?

"Dubbing" should get its own section though.

"ONA", I think, should be combined with TV... I worked on Yosuke Sugino and Yuta Koseki and there was a drama that was broadcast on Amazon Prime Video, and these days, there are plenty of shows broadcast online instead of television. Same with Produce 101 Japan, which was mostly broadcast on GyaO!

1. I do not think tokusatsu should get its own category. It's basically live-action film and TV, so it should be combined in those sections. Tokusatsu is literally just a special film technique that involves including special effects. lullabying (talk) 17:15, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

lullabying, if it's easy to list off the voice roles then you can combine them, but if there are hundreds of roles to list "voice role" or "live-action role" then consider the separate tables. Take your best guess as to what role dominates and you can always add to the notes that it's a "live-action animal dub" or "voice-over on anime portions of live-action show" For example, in Tom Kenny filmography, all his Transformers voice-overs on the live-action Transformer films are grouped under Voice-over. Oricon sales

Since Anime News Network stopped posting sales of Japanese DVDs and Blu-rays, it's been impossible to add reference to series that have sold well lately. I searched in Oricon's website for Sinners of the System since in a Japanese blog they added that the three movies have sold notably in Japan, but I can't find the amount of copies sold in Japan. Articles that can split the Anime

Just in case certain group of editors find these articles and make the erroneous decision to re-purpose the list article into TV-articles. I thought it would be a good idea to look into articles where it is currently feasible to split . Here's a list of manga articles that can split the anime without impacting the quality of either one.

• YuYu Hakusho
• School Rumble
• CardCaptor Sakura
• D.Gray-man
• Naruto/Naruto Shippuden

You're saying you want to give them the Bleach (manga) treatment? I will speak about this through how I view the Bleach articles. It's a Frankenstein Monster where parts from the manga article and the anime article blend together in a jarring way. One example (to me) is how the soundtrack section from the manga article should be in the anime article; then that introduces the problem of leaving which media belongs to which at the discretion of the editor, which will cause arguments due to subjective preferences. I guess it could work, I just took a look at The Irregular at Magic High School and if size was somehow an issue, the Anime, Video Games, and Anime reception could be split into an anime article; though just looking at Game of Thrones, I can't see that being a valid reason either. I didn't know Bleach (manga) kept the soundtrack information in the original manga page. I find that unnecessary and someone should be bold and move it to the anime page. If the anime is split, the soundtracks should go with it, in my humble opinion. Unless there are Drama CDs that have no ties to the anime in any shape or form. This does involve more restructuring. Perhaps copy WP:VG and instead of calling it "Media" we now rename it to "Related Media". I think the same can be done for the "Films"

With The Irregular at Magic High School, it may be time to split the volume list. But i like that it is light-novel focused by having a publication history, and calling the adaptations "Media Adaptations". In WP:VG they call it "Related media" but its a non-issue really. If Bleach's TV series and manga articles need cleanup to sort out proper leftover reception or related media then go for it. I would add Naruto and Naruto Shippuden as I mentioned on the WP:PUMP threads. They can be given the One Piece treatment. There are more complicated ones like Slayers (1995 TV series) but I think that would be split off with season 1 = Slayers (TV series) and then Slayers Next and Slayers Try as separate seasons/series articles as with Sailor Moon and Pretty Cure. I'm not an expert in the guidelines so I don't know if there is weight needed to make the anime article. If not I would have already made an article for Psycho-Pass 2. I think Dragon Ball's anime articles have commentary about why certain changes due to Toei. Since nobody translated the anime books, I have no idea if Hoshino did something with the anime. The only thing I know is that some episodes from the first half are kind of based on the first two light novels and apparently there was a controversy over it due to the author's issues. Can I add Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch and Tokyo Mew Mew to the list? Both series were long-running. Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch had plotlines that diverged from the manga and also had a second season of a different name. @Lullabying: The criteria i used wasn't on plot differences, i based the list on if there is enough production, broadcast, and reception information and if it didn't impact negatively on the original manga article. I dont know if everyone else is ok with splitting anime that short. But i think Tokyo Mew Mew and Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch don't have enough information on the anime to split it. I would use a series overview box like High School DxD or Pretty Cure on the main franchise article. @Dwanyewest: Try working in a sandbox. Try to exploit the character's roles and relationships that can bring further coverage. This can bring the idea the character can pass the notability guidelines. For example, this year I made an article for Atsushi Nakajima (Bungo Stray Dogs). He is first judged as a character on his own, then his relationships with two other important characters are explained if it helps to bring a certain appeal of Atsushi. Finally there is a paragraph about the character's role in a movie. I normally first google reviews of the series and see if writers happen to argue a certain area of a character.Tintor2 (talk) 21:55, 5 November 2019 (UTC)

So as a heads up. On my talk page an ip had a concern that Rahmadiabsyah is editing as an ip now. But due to the ANI report. The user is blocked but there's not really a case to act on because of this edit, given that the user (before they were blocked) only edits infrequently. And I don't think it raises to WP:SPI. An anon has been adding unsourced voice actors to nearly every Naruto article as well as anime introductions for some reason. I'm currently doing a quick copy-edit through Ribon, Margaret (magazine), Sho-Comi, Pucchigumi, and Bessatsu Margaret, but I've been noticing every single series / one-shots (short stories) have been documented even if they're not notable. Yes I would use Pucchigumi as an example and agree on making it so the works are in order by date published. I would be okay with leaving some of the non-notable stories if they are backed up by third party sources. I have no opinion on short stories, but also want to say that I have been going by ja:wiki as well. Series that have a notable manga artist or are part of a large series (example: Girls × Heroine! Series) would get preference over unknown authors with one shots. I don't agree that Cardcaptor Sakura should be split. The plot section would be largely identical, and there would be no production to speak of unless someone went to the trouble of writing it. The only sections it would otherwise have would be the Anime series and Audio CDs sections in Media, and the anime's reception. I don't think the article as it stands is so large that it warrants a split just for the sake of it when the resultant article will be under-developed at best, and unlikely to ever get up to at least GA level like it is now at worst.--十八 22:28, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

That show is being dubbed by Sentai Filmworks, so they ultimately will have a spelling you can go with, after a good faith subs translation from Crunchyroll. I am a bit surprised on how @Xexerss: is removing Tokyopop [13], [14] and adding mentions such as "Expired" next to the former licensee [15]. By that same logic we would be adding things like "Defunct" next to titles released by Broccoli Books (ceased in 2008) such as E's. What is the point in listing the former publishers/licensors of a series in the infobox if other publisher/licensor currently holds it? I leave E's's as it is simply because no other publisher has re-licensed it. It is confusing and unnecessary, details in sections about a series license's history should be enough and the infoboxes are basically summaries, so if you think all publishers/licensors must be listed in the infobox but also pointing out that adding a note stating that a publisher no longer holds a license is needless, it could be confusing and could imply that various publishers currently hold the series' license when it is not actually the case. I want to improve anime and manga articles but i'm having a hard time finding good sources for them. Sometimes it's difficult depending on the release date of the manga volume or anime dvd. For example, some of the D.Gray-man articles are backed up by sources that stopped reviewing manga due to the sites stopping working. Article hijack

I originally redirected Ships (band) to Kirarin Revolution, but the original redirect has been hijacked to create a page for an Irish band of the same name. The current page still has Wikidata from the original article and the linked international Wikipedia pages discuss the Japanese group. Can I ask for assistance in restoring the redirect? The show uses the ruby spelling in its episode titles, emphasized very heavily and is even mentioned at the beginning of those episodes with the Kanji and ruby, it doesn't use the Kanji romaji like many other anime do. If we still think that the Kanji is the way to go then making it sound like a normal Japanese title would suffice. Anyone know how to transfer Japanese characters from images?

Lots of retail websites give a samples of the light novel/manga with an image of the Table of Contents available. Those would be very helpful for chapter list articles but i don't know how to get the characters from images. Normally i copy-paste the characters from websites if its available.

I have a second question: Why do we label the lists as Chapters not yet in tankōbon format? It seems to be WP:JARGON, wouldn't it be better to say Chapters not yet collected in Trade Paperback?Blue Pumpkin Pie ^{Chat Contribs} 20:09, 27 December 2019 (UTC)

What you are looking for is Japanese OCR software; I find that KanjiTomo returns fairly accurate results. You could also try some free online options, but I can't vouch for their accuracy. — Goszei (talk) 00:16, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

If the series has an equivalent chapter page on Japanese Wikipedia, you can opt for that attempt to transcribe. Same with if they publicize titles in their book catalogs. Otherwise, yeah, there's Google translate and OCR-like attempts. I have a user essay on finding these, but if they're only in image form, then I would recommend:

      1. For series targeted towards young audiences, learning how to read furigana (only takes about two days) and then using an IME to type the characters in, or

      2. For series without furigana: learn the most common radicals and then use a site like Jisho.org to find the kanji by radical. You can also practice writing basic kanji, and then use the handwriting feature on Google Translate to draw the character (not as bad as it sounds, since you're not actually learning the characters themselves, and Google's keyboard is quite good even if you get the stroke order wrong; knowing radicals helps as well).

Once you have a single chapter title, searching the series name with that title might find a listing somewhere. Doing the process for all the chapters can be tedious, but it can be done.

I would not recommend OCR for kanji, as the results are usually similar-looking but not the same kanji at all, and unless you have experience looking at kanji, you might not realize the results are wrong. My personal experience hasn't been that good with OCR.

As for your second question, simply because trade paperback is a term for American comics while tankōbon is the Japanese manga industry term. Opencooper (talk) 00:40, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Merge Guardians 4 and Shugo Chara Egg! to List of Shugo Chara! soundtracks

I'm cleaning up on Japanese idol group articles and I noticed that both Guardians 4 and Shugo Chara Egg! are just collaboration tie-in projects with Shugo Chara! and aren't active outside of it (though you could argue that they are from Hello! Project, a notable musical act). Buono! is the only exception to this case because the group started having activities outside of the anime after it ended. I noticed List of Shugo Chara! soundtracks and thought it would help to merge the article there just like Kirarin Revolution discography.   • I wasn't going to give an explanation since we've been through this time and time again, but my reasons for merging Kira Pika, MilkyWay, and Ships (Japanese band) to Kirarin Revolution was because these groups were only tie-in groups for the anime and had no notability outside of it. The groups played characters from the show and as soon as the anime was over, they disbanded -- they are not independent outside of the show any more than u's and Aqours are independent of Love Live! Furthermore, the band articles were just stubs and also qualified for merge under WP:MERGEREASONs #2, 3, and 4 because they depended on context on the anime. Had the band articles included information on reception outside of the anime, there could have been a possibility they could become individual articles. Also, with the exception of Ships (Japanese band), the other articles were merged through consensus. Just a friendly reminder that we need to start archiving references. i'm noticing a lot of older articles not archived and it's now affecting negatively on some articles. Especially the lists. For example, Shueisha is removing their older titles from their catalog. They are still available but as Ebooks. It's always a good idea to preemptively archive any Japanese sources. There's no telling how quick these links go dead. I've seen entire sites move without any regard to past content. There are browser extensions available for both archive.org, as well as archive.is that make this as easy as a click. You can also comb through current articles with Checklinks. Nihongo template cleanup help needed

This is being tracked in Category:Nihongo template errors, which currently has around 1,700 pages. It would be great if members could help work through this. Nobuyuki Fukumoto interview

I found an interview with Nobuyuki Fukumoto, author of Kaiji (manga), broadcast by NHK World's "imagine-nation" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vBSLmXG1II which I think could work for a potential Production section of the series. I'd like to cite the episode like the Goodnight Punpun article, which also cited the same program ("Inio Asano". Imagine-nation. Season 2010. Episode 23. 7 December 2010. NHK World), the major issue is that I can't find information of the episode nowhere. By the hosts' comments, it seems that it's the first episode or an episode of early season 3, according to a forum I found from April 2010 and some inferences, the episode aired around March or April 2010. Manga/work adapted into anime genre

If a source says that an anime series based on manga or other original work belongs to a certain genre, is the genre also applied to the original work or it must be specified that the original work belongs to said genre? e.g. The Seven Deadly Sins (manga) has "Adventure, fantasy" based on the genres listed by Funimation website, that is the anime adaptation, so do the genres apply for both works regardless its media or the genres must be added only if the source says that the original manga/work belongs to them?--Xexerss (talk) 19:22, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

@Xexerss: I think what AngusWOOF is saying is that if it is well known series, we don't have to rely on the anime to get the genres. Light novels are treated as niche media then the manga, so it would be fine to make the anime share the same genres. In the case that the manga is classified differently than the anime, i think its safe to include both classifications in the infobox. For example, if Seven Deadly Sins was classified as "action" in the anime, but not in the manga, i think it is still appropriate to have them included in the infobox. There's a bigger issue concerning lack of sourcing for descriptions provided for characters in general, which was why it was severely trimmed. The infobox documentation for the parameter states: "If person was notable for their height, or if height is relevant". As far as VAs are concerned, it's not relevant at all. After finding a lot of reception to expand his notability, I created the article Tanjiro Kamado. It still lacks information anything in regards to his creation and any other development he has had in the story. I would add an image but I think it might be better to have another user do it. I made Draft:The Ideal Sponger Life and after looking at the kanji to the chapters. I got stuck at chapter 23's kanji and I was reading bits through the chapter and it gave; 王子の嘘. But when I was looking at one of the websites that gives the short chapter previews (the toc) it gave; 王子のお見舞い instead? So I'm either wrong on one of these or not? Can you clarify what you are trying to do? If you want to add the appropriate kanji in the volume list, then I recommend sticking with what we can verify and use what the TOC provides. If you are talking about something else, then i'm not sure. I was adding the translation in. I saw both kanji, one that may was from the magazine's issue. ("The Prince's Lie") Then when I looked at the book's volume. It was ("The Prince's Visit"). The "History of anime" page needs serious work

The History of anime page needs a serious, serious overhaul. Not only are huge swaths of it uncited and likely WP:OR, it reflects an extremely narrow slice of history that clearly coincides with the editor's or editors' interests: shounen and mecha. For instance, the magical girl genre is entirely absent, except for a mention that Sally the Witch premiered in 1966— further developments, such as popular franchises like Sailor Moon or Pretty Cure, go unmentioned. In stark contrast, there is always time to go into how the mecha genre is doing in each decade, even breaking it down to the "super" and "real" subgenres. The page has also clearly had editors insert their personal faves into it, as can be seen most clearly in the "Notable titles" section that I just cut.

Beyond that, it is also full of sentences that are speculative, dubious or outright wrong. Here are some that jumped out to me as particularly bad— this is surely not exhaustive:

• Sports anime, as it is now known, made its debut in 1983 with an anime adaptation of Yoichi Takahashi's soccer manga Captain Tsubasa, — What's with "sports anime, as it is now known"? This seems to be an arbitrary definition to exclude things like Ashita no Joe, which is mentioned earlier on the page. However, Captain Tsubasa is still predated by works like Aim for the Ace and Attack No. 1.

• the bursting of the bubble economy … brought a close to the 1980s era of anime. — It may be seen as the end of the 80s symbolically, but the Japanese asset price bubble didn't burst until 1992.

• In 1993, the first airing of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in anime form was released. This marked the beginning of an on and off airing schedule of one of the most critically acclaimed anime series'. The series has a very western influence in the way the characters are portrayed and act. Later, JoJo's has gone on to inspire many western looking anime, such as Cowboy Bebop. — "On and off airing schedule" seems to be an attempt to tie the JJBA OVA to the later David Productions television adaptations, which is a huge stretch. But a bigger stretch is that it "inspire many western looking anime". Araki was not the first person to look outside Japan for influences!

• [Evangelion] also led to late-night experimental anime shows. Starting with Serial Experiments Lain (1998), late night became a forum for experimental anime … — the late night anime page attributes the rise of late-night programs to Those Who Hunt Elves, but it's similarly uncited, so this needs to be investigated. However, attributing "experimental anime" to Lain sure feels like legacy-burnishing to me.

• Many shows have been adapted from manga and light novels, including popular titles such as Yu-Gi-Oh! (2000), Inuyasha (2000), Naruto (2002), Fullmetal Alchemist (2003), Monster (2004), Bleach (2004), Rozen Maiden (2005), Aria the Animation (2005), Shakugan no Shana (2005), Pani Poni Dash! (2005), Death Note (2006), Mushishi (2006), Sola (2007), The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (2006), Lucky Star (2007), Toradora! (2008–09), K-On! (2009), Bakemonogatari (2009), and Fairy Tail (2009); — Manga adaptations are not even remotely a new trend, and lumping all of these together is merely a ploy at making that claim seem plausible— all while flattening and ignoring actual trends that can be picked out during this period.

• The decade also dawned a revival of high-budget feature-length anime films, such as Millennium Actress (2001), Metropolis (2001), Appleseed (2001), Paprika (2006), and the most expensive of all being Steamboy (2004) which cost $26 million to produce. — A greater number of them, perhaps, but to call it a "revival" is to ignore 90s films like Ghost in the Shell, Perfect Blue, Princess Mononoke, Porco Rosso and Adolescence of Utena, among others.

… And so on.

I don't mean to just drop off a bad article here as if making a demand, but this is way too big an undertaking for any single editor and clearly requires a community effort to whip into shape. And I'm sure you all are much more knowledgeable than me! — Kawnhr (talk) 22:43, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Category:Crunchyroll originals

Currently there's a category called Category:Crunchyroll originals, and the category page says: "This category is for animated / anime series marked as Crunchyroll originals. These shows are streaming on Crunchyroll, who have been involved in either direct production or co-production of the listed series. They may or may not get a broadcast run on Japanese television," and currently includes 6 titles, all of which were part of this announcement. Should this category also be populated with previous Crunchyroll co-productions, like A Place Further than the Universe, The Rising of the Shield Hero, and many others, which were not marketed as "Crunchyroll originals", but were still co-produced by Crunchyroll? I have been trying to clean up the article Vash the Stampede but the creation sections seems to be quite small for such a famous character. Yumetori has been adding some categories to My Hero Academia including Category:Japan–South Korea relations, Category:China–Japan relations, Category:Anti-Chinese sentiment in Asia, Category:Anti-Korean sentiment in Japan, Category:Anti-Japanese sentiment in China and Category:Anti-Japanese sentiment in South Korea. All these related to the controversy of a character's name referencing Unit 731. Its print version is a manhua, which is part of the "we do not cover" item "Animated or printed works produced for consumption outside of Japan that nevertheless draw on or are similar to Japanese media in terms of content or form (such as Chinese animation, Korean animation, manhwa, manhua and Western manga-styled comics such as Gothic Sports and Peach Fuzz)." AngusWOOF That is a useful point; I had read the item "Video games related to anime or manga are under a shared scope with WikiProject Video games;" and made the assumption that it would be covered under that note. However, I would disagree that the point you made entirely fits the game itself; while the article may not (yet) do the best to explain the game as such, the game is produced for consumption both within and outside of Japan, and the game itself is in the anime style, not to mention that the general target audience is consumers of anime and the intent of the game seems to be made for "otaku"s (the company that created and is updating the game even has the slogan of "Technical Otakus Save the World" for this game). I would agree that the spin-off media may not fit the definition of being notable for this project, but from what I have seen and played of the game, I would think that the game would fit the scope of this project. Then again, I admittedly haven't read much examples (yet) of what is and is not accepted, so this is only my suggestion, and I'll have to defer to others' judgement. I would recommend checking out the game before deciding, though. Should Doraemon: Gadget Cat from the Future remain separate from Doraemon (2005 TV series)?

In a discussion at Talk:Case Closed a user responding to a request to separate Detective Conan and Case Closed wondered by Doraemon: Gadget Cat from the Future was still separate from Doraemon (2005 TV series).

I think there should be a merge, as dub versions are not usually sufficient for separate articles.

WhisperToMe, first, we shouldn't really entertain any ideas, good or bad, from Wikipedia:LTA/CC5K. But if you're pondering whether the English version should be separated from the Japanese TV series, that depends on how strongly edited it is. If the English episode is pretty much the same episode from the Japanese but with episodic edits (i.e. most 4Kids editing atrocities) then it gets a listing like List of Smile Precure episodes, One Piece (season 1), List of Cardcaptor Sakura episodes, or maybe List of Battle of the Planets episodes. If they combine pieces of different episodes and morph that into a single episode and create their own take, or really chop up the episode (episode 6 = 1/3 of JP episode 5, 2/3 of JP episode 6), then it has to be listed separately as with List of DokiDoki! PreCure episodes, List of Robotech episodes, and List of Star Blazers episodes. The most prominent example of completely repackaged would be Power Rangers where they created entirely different storylines with original actors speaking in English and used footage from the Super Sentai franchise / seasons. Based on that article alone, which still has JP writers and transliterations, it should be combined for sure. WhisperToMe, it's actually quite a big mess. They take segments - each episode has 2 segments - but they tend to mix them all up from all over the previous 2005 anime seasons, and then present those out of order, kind of like the old Looney Tunes cartoons. WhisperToMe, the Disney Channel Japan one seems to be that way, but that's going way off the tracks. But they are mixing and matching different segments from the original series in all sorts of random orders, as listed in that episode listing. They broadcast the Disney Channel version in English dub first in 2014. I would just nuke the Disney Channel Japan airdates (2016) as those came much later than the English version and no one cares about preserving that dub of a dub version. I would also get rid of the director/storyboard/animation columns as those are useless. I can't believe they bothered doing a dub of a dub. I'd only mention aspects of the redub if they were written about in secondary sources. Song title question

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, but due to the ubiquitous presence of idol anime songs on Japanese music charts, I'm working on discographies for several idol-related anime series. As some of you know, the character CDs are released as singles under a "series name" rather than the actual song name (i.e. for Idolish7, several of the CDs are actually titled TV Anime: Idolish7 Opening Theme Song "..." and the like, and I've ran into this issue for Setsugetsuka (song)). I've looked at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums/Archive 58#"Single_Album" on how to go about this, where lead songs are titled differently from their singles.

This link shows an example of what I'm talking about. The CD single is actually titled Ensemble Stars Unit Song CD Vol. 8: Trickstar but that is overshadowed by "Rebellion Star" on the cover, which happens to be the title of the lead song and was what actually charted on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 and Billboard Japan Hot Animation. What title should I list it under on the discography? Should I write a footnote on its actual name? lullabying (talk) 23:11, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

Addendum: Here are several options I can do, using Undead's CD. (The cover lists "Melody in the Dark" and "Honey Milk Okonomi de" as double A-sides, though Oricon listed "Melody in the Dark" only on its rankings.)

1) List the songs underneath a column with the name of the CD single, which allows for room to write rankings from other charts. This might cause a lot of clutter though.

The first option you listed has the colspan problems so, no. The second option is good for double A-singles as with Mai Kuraki discography Character singles are good if they have a huge stack of those for anime. So it sounds like the third option with the Free! discography is best. If you do Free! discography style then do not colspan the group name like they did in one of the tables. Another option is to have track detailing like List of Lucky Star albums AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 02:23, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Also do not put + for any album/single sales numbers (e.g. 35,000+); that's really annoying, but I see tons of K-pop discographies that abuse this and assume all sales numbers are always increasing. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 02:27, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Are anime and animated interchangeable?

In the most recent edits to the Pokémon anime films, TardisTybort (talk · contribs) said that anime and animated are not interchangeable in the English language. However, in some film articles such as the Ghibli films, they are considered Japanese animated films.

@Sjones23: Yes and no. In Japanese "anime" simply stands for any type of animated work, and Western animation is often called "animation from overseas" (海外アニメ, kaigai anime). I actually just learned this recently, but "animation" in Japan is often used to signify art animation. I can't find the source right now, but I've also read that Hayao Miyazaki prefers to use the term "animation" instead of "anime". Regardless, Pokemon is definitely anime. I guess the distinction would widely depend on the target audience. At least according to one source, in Japan, "animation" is sometimes used to distinguish art animation and the like from more popular "anime". As Lullabying pointed out, in Anglophone spheres, "anime" means animation from Japan (and sometimes the rest of East Asia, though not on Wikipedia). The Pokemon: The Rise of Darkrai film is clearly consistent with the style of the Pokemon anime TV series so it would be considered anime. The newer films Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution is listed as "computer animated" but has categories for 2019 anime film. Detective Pikachu is live-action animation produced outside of Japan, so that would not be. Makoto Shinkai's Weathering with You film is described as "Japanese animated" but like the other Miyazaki films, is regarded in the opening paragraph as an anime film. Yeah... That definitely doesn't make the cut: it's a fan-curated, fan-written site. (Personally, I think Wikipedians tend to have an over-emphasis on "reliable sources"--I know it's kind of a bureaucratic thing to save the website from endless debate over which sources cross over into unreliable, but I'd rather people just have more critical thinking (aka WP:COMMONSENSE) over inflexible interpretations of the rules. Our articles and WP:SUBTITLE

So the guideline WP:SUBTITLE recommends that books with subtitles in their names should use their common name. So for many books, this will still include the subtitle, especially if the primary title is short or ambiguous (for many of our pages, part of a larger franchise). However, there are many cases where the common name is without the subtitle or the main title is already long. Additionally, many publishers will tack on an English subtitle to a Japanese title when translated.

Below is a list of articles in our project that include a colon. I've filtered out those I noticed as part of a series or exceptions:

I feel this project could work through the more obvious ones. For example, no one includes "The Flower We Saw That Day" for Anohana, or "Love Is Hard for Otaku" for Wotakoi, or this. (a good case is if the non-subtitled form redirects there or doesn't exist). The list has 192 items but not all will be candidates. Thoughts? Opencooper (talk) 01:52, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Hmm, well maybe the list could be directly edited, with {{Done}} added for those being moved. For those which were assessed as not be so straightforward, maybe {{Not sure}}. For exceptions, {{Not done}}. The obvious ones could be moved right away. If they're being moved over a redirect that already has edits, then the move would have to be requested.

I admit I haven't thought the process through too much but was just soliciting feedback first since this affects a bunch of our articles. The non-obvious ones would require a careful look at the WP:COMMONNAME, marketing materials, etc. to see if the subtitle is an integral part of the name. This needs to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Can you reduce this to the ones that you think should be reduced to a more common name? Ajin: Demi Human, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, Xam'd: Lost Memories, Tayutama: Kiss on my Deity , Tales of Vesperia: The First Stirke, Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma, Hetalia: Axis Powers should be kept as is, mostly because the shortened title could refer to other titles. Regarding Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike, unless the plan is to move it to Tales of Vesperia (film) the subtitle needs to stay since the base title is occupied by the video game the film is based on.--69.157.254.64 (talk) 22:21, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

As I read it, WP:SUBTITLE is mostly concerned with the long, rambling, explanatory subtitles that books often get, not everything. It would apply here to light novels (appropriately enough) and their adaptations, but it's hard to see something like Case File nº221: Kabukicho or Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachimaru as being in need of correction— even if it's arguable whether those subtitles are truly integral to the title, the titles are still succinct enough that it's hardly something to be concerned about.

Also, not to drag you, but just glancing and poking through the list a bit… I see plenty of instances where the subtitle is because the work is part of a larger franchise, is clearly an integral part of the title, or at the very least serving as a WP:NATURALDIS. I agree with AngusWOOF: rather than work through every title to determine "which of these are OK?", it would be more constructive to nominate titles to be moved. — Kawnhr (talk) 18:20, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Recent activity at the Kimba the White Lion article

There's been a spate of recent activity at the Kimba the White Lion article in the section dedicated to the Lion King controversy. This activity seems to have been triggered by the appearance of a new YouTube video that claims to debunk some of the arguments used by those claiming uncredited influence regarding scenes and plot in Kimba the White Lion upon the first Lion King movie. Inexperienced editors had been removing sourced material and making what I feel are overhasty changes to the section. My feeling is that it is not Wikipedia's role to arbitrate the Lion King controversy, but merely to present the history and reasons behind the controversy, and that both reliably sourced arguments and counter-arguments are fine and appropriate in that section. Activity has settled down somewhat since the instatement of page protection from anonymous IP editing, but I suspect it will ramp up again after the expiration of the protection in a few days.

In the meantime, some discussion comments have appeared on the article talk page and remain unresolved. Some are calling into question at least one of the section's sources (a book by Madhavi Sunder). If someone can identify WP:RS third party sources that support these claims (or counter them), then I think that'd help resolve this ongoing concerns. I'm also open to having the article mention the YouTube video claims, though other editors differ on this. Anyhow, input from project members would be appreciated at Talk:Kimba the White Lion. I have trying to talk with a certain anon in regards to using reddit as a source to Lelouch Lamperouge but he reverted me twice and is only talking through edit summaries despite me sending messages to his talk page. The way I usually handle these kinds of editors is that the first time I explain why I reverted, but any reverts after that, I just say "please gain consensus on the talk page instead of edit warring". Then if they keep edit warring (3 reverts), either request page protection or report them for edit warring. I've long learned that posting to their talk page or the article's is pointless because these kinds of editors aren't interested in discussion and have this view that Wikipedia disputes are decided by whoever clicks "undo" the most. What to do about the ruby template

Over the past few years, editors – myself included – have taken to using Template:Ruby for articles of Japanese-related works that make extensive use of furigana for loanwords. However, this has posed spacing issues between lines, and the kanji itself if the above text proves to be too long, which makes the articles look unsightly. On top of that, the default size of the upper text was changed just the other day to comply with MOS:FONTSIZE guidelines that text should be no smaller than 85% the normal size. Now we have cases of cluttered-looking paragraphs like this sample from the furigana page:

Furigana unrelated to the kanji they are assigned to are quite often used to convey certain effects, rather than to denote a phonetic guide, especially in manga, anime and games (card games, board games and video games all included). This usage is known as gikun (see also Kanji#Special readings). The specific types of effects vary: furigana could be used to visually reinforce complex ideas without having to use long expressions; to annotate strange, foreign, rarely seen text; to use more artistic or more explanatory spellings for regular words (see Kanji#Gikun); or simply for shorthand for base text abbreviation, thanks to the small type of furigana. For example, the word 悪（しん）夢（じつ） "nightmare" may be assigned with しんじつ shinjitsu "truth" rather than its true reading, あくむ akumu, to convey the meaning of "nightmarish truth". Some authors may even use furigana that means the opposite of what the base text does to reinforce an effect, such as the complicated relationship between characters. For example, 親友（ライバル） shin'yū "close friend" may be tagged with ライバル raibaru "rival", to mean "you're my rival, but also my friend"; or conversely, 好敵手（とも） kōtekishu "eternal rival" may be tagged with とも tomo "friend". Some manga make use of the furigana renditions of foreign words (especially obscure ones) as the intended reading of a term, and the more familiar kanji for the meaning of such a term. For example, 黒・魔・導（ブラック・マジック） may be assigned with ブラック・マジック burakku majikku, the rendition of the English "black magic", to convey a foreign, exotic feel; 駅（ステーション） with ステーション sutēshon "station"; 新婚旅行（ハニームーン） with ハニームーン hanīmūn "honeymoon". This is sometimes done conversely, for example, by using キッス kissu "kiss", the more familiar term, as furigana to convey meaning, and ベーゼ（キッス） bēze "baiser", the exotic term, as base text. For shorthand purposes, abbreviations such as ICPO（インターポール） may be used to make the regular kana spelling that is too long smaller type.

Here are a few articles that similarly make prominent use of Template:Ruby, either in the opening page for their titles, or used extensively throughout the article:

I would like to know the general impression of this type and level of usage, and what a suitable alternative would be, if any. For myself, we could follow the example of List of Zatch Bell! episodes, which writes the kanji normally but uses the romaji for the furigana, and uses footnotes explaining the usage. Most translations, transliterations, and pronunciations on en.WP put the translated text in parentheses after the original text, like this from the lead of Milan:

What's happening on this page is an edge case interaction with phab:T200704 and is not a reversion. You can ensure this behavior doesn't happen: Don't wrap uses of {{ruby}} or equivalent with a link. Especially don't do this for the first time the template is used on the page. You're seeing it on this page and this page only because the first case is {{lang|ja|[[wikt:悪夢|{{ruby-ja|悪|しん}}{{ruby-ja|夢|じつ}}]]}}, which wraps ruby with a link.

Aside: You do not need to wrap {{ruby-ja}} with {{lang}}. The correct metadata is already assigned to {{ruby-ja}}. --Izno (talk) 13:09, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

To editor Izno: I brought it up because the larger size was definitely in effect on this page the other day, which is strange to me.

But going back on track, what should we do with articles and lists that extensively use this template all throughout, specifically for works that officially and frequently use loanwords over kanji? Frankly, I'm not sure what the most suitable usage for this template is if there are any articles that use it to that degree, like the ones I listed above. Removal of theme songs

A fellow user has been blanking the entire theme song table from List of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations episodes, relying the tv series' guidelines rather than actual anime. I talked to him but he still reverted my edits.Tintor2 (talk) 01:37, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

Voice cast of .hack//G.U. Trilogy

Don't know if fits here but I recently expanded the article .hack//G.U. Trilogy OVA but failed to find too much material to source the cast section. The only two actors I happened to find sourced are two of the leads (Sakurai and Kawasumi) but for some reason not even Behind the Voice Actors has an article dedicated to them. Any idea where I could get a reliable source in regards to them? Might be enough to remove the citations template since I managed to cite most of the prose. Making an overarching page for Love Live! as franchise

With three (soon to be four) idol groups that produce music, soon to be five seasons of anime, three mobile videogames and a bunch of manga I feel like it's good to have an overaching page that basically lists all the other pages there's available such as Love Live!, Love Live! Sunshine!!, Love Live! School Idol Festival, Nijigasaki High School Idol Club. At the moment it can be a bit difficult to find what you need (for instance I wanted to look up for information about the Nijigasaki anime and I ended up going through 4 love live related wikipedia pages before I got to be where I needed.) Is it ok if I create the page, do I need some sort of permission to not have it auto-deleted, or is better to have it added to a backlog and let more experienced editors go at it? It's not up to par to be the franchise page as it stands. The intro section of the page makes it clear that this page is just about the first project of the love live franchise, and that for other projects you need to go to other pages. You can't even find out how many groups there are in the love live franchise by reading just this page; the only redirect to the Nijigasaki High School Idol Club page appears somewhere at the bottom. If the Love Live! page is to serve as the franchise page then the page intro section would need to be edited to reflect it as such. Mijzelffan (talk) 09:48, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

I imagine that it would be something like Pretty Cure as a sort of hub-page for each of the separate series, films (there's bound to be more than 2 in the future), and video games (that have characters from multiple series, and aren't tied to just one of the sub-series). General reception for the series would also go there. We could also move all of the discographies from each individual page and merge them into a Music of Love Live! article (with a link and summary on the franchise page) to make it easier to see all of the music in one place, seeing as how it will be split across 4 separate pages soon. If we do this, I would be in favor of moving Love Live! to Love Live! School Idol Project and then using Love Live! as the franchise page.--十八 22:10, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

Translations from other sources

In the past weeks, a fellow user named User:TeenAngels1234 from Italy has been trying to improve the articles from the main Neon Genesis Evangelion characters including Shinji Ikari, Asuka Langely Soryu and Rei Ayanami to the point in their current form, they seem in major state. However, other Evangelion editors seem to be against these changes as seen here. Placing good faith in the user's attempts to improve the article, I would request to other editors comment on this since there aren't too many editors there (I gave up on editing Evangelion articles when my edits were reverted for no reason and I even got a personal attack here).
