On 17 January 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Frye Fire, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Frye Fire), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Copyright contributor investigation and Good article reassessment edit

You are receiving this message because you were a Good article reviewer on at least one article that is part of Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/20210315 or you signed up for messages. An AN discussion closed with consensus to delist this group of Good articles for copyright and other problems, unless a reviewer opens an independent Good article reassessment and can vouch for/verify content of all sources. Please review Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/February 2023 for further information. A list of the GA reviewers can be found here. Questions or comments can be made at the project talk page. You can opt in or out of further messages at this page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:20, 9 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Vami IV, have you had a look at the timeline on the GAR/Feb 2023 page above? We're trying to keep track of which articles have already been processed via a Petscan query, so we can be sure when the bot runs on Feb 23 or after we've gotten all the right delistings. GA templates that get removed now give me one more thing to have to track down and keep straight, so if you can post any GAs you submit to WP:CP at the project talk page, or hold off for a week, it will give me one less thing to keep track of for now. Best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:44, 17 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Noted. Will not happen again. Please be aware that what is listed at WP:CP will be deleted after seven days. –♠Vamí_IV†♠ 05:43, 17 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yep ... I'll just have to keep track of those two, as Novem Linguae has indicated they might have problems getting the bot approved in time for the planned run on the 23rd ... I realize that copyright work takes priority, but if we can hold off on the GAs, it will be less for us to keep straight. I've learned from watching you work how many others I will be able to send straight to CP after the GAR run. Up to this point, I had been working through articles-- something I had to do I guess to convince myself of how seriously bad they are, so I won't feel bad now just sending them off for deletion. There are many GAs that are 98% DC's work, and full of blatant inaccuracies as well as copyvio-- off with their heads. Bst, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 06:16, 17 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Your suffering through this shit is what allows us to so quickly dispense with it and start over. For that, I thank you. From here until the bot runs, I will avoid GAs and make note of them on the CCI page. –♠Vamí_IV†♠ 06:25, 17 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
For reference, I use the mediawiki browser extension "Who Wrote That?" to see how much of an article was written by who. If the majority of the article is written by Coldwell, I sent it to CP immediately. The template we use for this is Template:Copyvio, like so: {{subst:copyvio|url=Presumptive deletion over copyright concerns, please see: [[Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/20210315]]}}. Then, it's a matter of following the instructions in the box that appears over top of the article. –♠Vamí_IV†♠ 08:12, 17 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yep, I have Who Wrote That, and took a screenshot of your templating so I'd know how to do it ... unfortunately, I had already partially cleaned most of the Ludington family articles before the AN consensus, so I may have to suffer through those and finish what I started, but from there on out, it's straight to CP on anything mostly written by him. Somewhat unbelievable that I waded through the whole Lunar display series of 30 articles, but it showed me what DC's work was about. Thx ! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:29, 17 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

NovemBot is running, so we can move forward at the CCI with the now delisted GAs (or soon to be) ... SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:25, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Bot stopped halfway through ... got to articles beginning with J. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 10:02, 26 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Then let the sword bite letters A to I. –♠Vamí_IV†♠ 10:31, 26 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Looks like NovemBot should finish in an hour or two more. Then I shall unwatch the GA pages and thank my lucky stars I never got involved over there, and focus on the CCI. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:15, 26 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Have you seen this book on McQueen from last year here: [1]. It seems to have relevant information for both the Widows article and your current nomination for Kate Moss. Thoughts on something edit

Was recently handing out a Civil War barnstar to somebody, and ran across Template:ACW Barnstar. Am I the only one who is uncomfortable with the phrasing "For actions worthy of [...] Forrest"? Forrest just isn't a person I think we'd want to place as an example of good behavior.

Likewise, I find Template:Nuclear Barnstar an odd choice of image, as a hodge-podge of a good service award along with an image showing the mushroom cloud that once was a city. Hog Farm Talk 17:13, 4 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Hog Farm: The civil war barnstar was created by a, now community banned, neoconfederate. I don't think it would be a hard sell to remove the lost cause propaganda -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 17:45, 4 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yikes. Gut that shit. Sheridan's not exactly the nicest, gentlest of souls, either. –♠Vamí_IV†♠ 05:26, 5 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I have to admit that this barnstar seems to violate the spirit of WP:NOTBATTLEGROUND as well. (t · c) buidhe 07:19, 5 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sheesh. Venerating a man who committed massacres and was the first grand wizard of the KKK? How did this not get shut down years ago? Trainsandotherthings (talk) 17:42, 5 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
It must have flown under the radar. Those barnstars do not get handed out very often. I think, actually, the last time the nuke barnstar was awarded was when I gave it to you in 2021. –♠Vamí_IV†♠ 17:47, 5 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, that barnstar seems to have never been given out-- it was a proposed ACW barnstar which the project ended up choosing Template:ACWTF Barnstar over. Eddie891 Talk Work 17:51, 5 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
It should be no trouble to get it deleted, then. –♠Vamí_IV†♠ 18:02, 5 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:7th century in Austria edit

A tag has been placed on Category:7th century in Austria indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". In your wheelhouse? edit

Thought Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Great Raid of 1840/1 might be something you wanted to see (although I think the article needs much work to get to GA status - a few of those sources I thought were a bit cringe-worthy). I suspect that there are many similarly-poor MILHIST good articles. Hog Farm Talk 20:18, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hey. I seem to be editing again, though I am a pale sliver of my former gryphon self. I hope again that you can forgive me for bailing out after trying to play rainmaker a couple of years ago. Discontent Content Issue 7 edit

Administrators' newsletter – June 2023 edit

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

  Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

  Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Snake Ridge Fire and Talk:Snake Ridge Fire/GA1 for issues which need to be addressed. The Core Contest winners announced edit

The winners of the 2023 The Core Contest are announced 🎉. We had an amazing set of improvements this year, and the judges (Femke, Aza24 and Casliber) would like to thank everybody who joined and congratulate the winners.

  • First place goes to Buidhe for improving The Holocaust; very core, highly relevant; their work on bringing geographical balance to the article puts the topic in a whole different light. We also commend improvements to sourcing and prose
  • A close second place goes to Phlsph7 for improving Education from an unstructured jumble into a well-sourced piece of instruction
  • Third prize goes to Johnbod for improving Donatello, a near five-fold expansion with great sourcing and fantastic imagery
  • A tie for fourth place goes to Thebiguglyalien for improving Crime, for a strong improvement in sourcing
  • A tie for fifth place goes to Sammielh for International law, improved by converting contextless listicles into a proper sourced prose

If you wish to start or stop receiving news about The Core Contest, please add or remove yourself from the delivery list. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 20:07, 21 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Administrators' newsletter – September 2023 edit

News and updates for administrators from the past month (August 2023).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
  • A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that [s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment.

  Technical news

  Arbitration

  • The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.
