IP editor forging a signature

Hello Jj137. I notice you recently blocked 141.209.133.251 (talk · contribs) for 31 hours, but in this edit he forged the signature of User:Greg D. Barnes. The latter complained in a post at WP:RFPP. I lengthened this editor's block to 1 month. (Feel free to undo my action if you already knew about this forgery business and felt 31 hours was right). See this post on Greg's talk. I did not notice even a single good contribution in the history of this IP. 141.209.49.11 (talk · contribs) looks to be the same person, since he also forged Greg's signature here. The College football WikiProject Newsletter Issue XI - October 2008
Project news A college football article is a featured list candidate and is looking for comments, criticism, and/or your support. Be sure to visit Alabama Crimson Tide football seasons to put in a few words. Two new featured articles have been added to the project (2007 USC Trojans football team and 2005 Sugar Bowl), bringing the project's total to 12 featured articles. The 2008-2009 college football season is in full swing! Teams ranked in the top 25 should have a single-season page or at the very least a separate football page. The rankings page and the overall season page should be kept updated, as should the pages of players of note, particularly Heisman Trophy candidates. Heading out to a football game? Be sure to carry a camera and get pictures of players, teams, stadiums, and all the action and pageantry of college football. An excellent guide to taking pictures for WP:CFB can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/Images. Even if you don't think a photo can be immediately used for an article, try uploading it to Wikimedia Commons so future article authors can use it. The College Football Portal needs to be updated with featured articles and pictures. Do you have a great picture that illustrates the best of college football? Yes, there might be, I'm not sure; as far as I know, the best (and maybe quickest) way to deal with this would be for one of you to take this to WP:ANI. Re:Hi again

Things are going quite well! I will admit I was blocked for a time from January to July of this year (and rightly so) for being a royal dumbass to a couple users. I have since come back and am working hard to re-earn everyone's respect and I seem to have done so. I am back working on radio stations and TV stations. Am updating the State of Virginia's radio station pages to make sure they all have infoboxes and working with the TV station WikiProject to get the "market" templates back and updated.

Removing stat table blocks from team-season articles

I noticed you removing some of the stat tables I've been working with on some team-season articles (most recently, the 1882 and 1883 Cincinnati pages). I can understand why you might remove some of the pitching tables due to the small number of pitchers on the early teams, but why remove the "Other batters" table? I'm just going to have to re-add it later when I get to that part of the project. -Dewelar (talk) 02:40, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Just to make it, well, simpler. I first added the stat tables to all of the Reds pages last year, and gradually have been going back and "simplifying" them ever since, when I realized there was no point in having two divisions for batters and three for pitchers. I originally copied the stats tables from User:Soxrock (he "created" them, I think) without really thinking twice about it. Since I have thought about it, I sort of realized all of that. (If you think about it, all batters do the same thing, there's no point dividing it into two random groups; same with the pitchers, except it is two main/separate groups instead of three, starting and relief.)   jj137 (talk) 02:57, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

I like the current setup (with my tweaking of the headers) for two reasons: 1) The batters can be split up into the "Starters by position" and "Other batters", which highlights the more important ones in their own place, and 2), the "Other pitchers" table can hold those pitchers who were both starters and relievers. As the admin that gave this editor rollback privileges, I just wanted to briefly mention that although the majority of the reverts this user has done have been good, he/she may be a little too quick on the trigger: examples include re-adding vandalism, reverting good faith edit, reverting capitalization correction, reverting my reversion of completely original research/fiction, and a handful of incidents where the user reverted and correctly reverted back. Most of these incidents are minor and have been mentioned to the user, but I can't tell if any have been acknowledged. Upcoming World Development contest

Penubag has been hard at work developing awards for this project. He has completed a very professional looking medal, and is almost done with a trophy that is truly awesome - both of these awards are visually stunning.

I and a few others have been working steadily on the country outlines that will be the focus of the contest - an outline for every country of the world! They're shaping up nicely. So far, 28 of them have been moved to article space - these aren't complete, but they are complete enough to be made available for readers to benefit from them. The rest of the set still includes temporary data that was generated by template (because it matched most but not all of the countries), and before those lists can be moved to article space, all the temporary data needs to be checked for accuracy, and if incorrect it needs to be replaced with correct information.

The effort on the lists has been on 3 fronts:

1. Working on the lists in article space to complete them so they will be good examples for editors working on the rest of the set (during the contest).
2. Adding or correcting other data (fixing redlinks, filling in blanks, etc.). The main type of work participants in the contest will be doing. The reason we're doing this is to get a feel for it, to develop the fastest methods for each type of task, etc.
3. Improving the overall design and implenting changes on all 247 pages, whether in article space or not.

There has been some opposition to us running the contest based on edit counts or iterations. The concern is that we should reward quality work and not quantity, for fear of crappy edits done quickly without thought just to earn an award. I pointed out that the collection of pages are drafts in the Wikipedia namespace (therefore posing no danger to article space) and that most of the work needs to be done with power tools like AWB and Linky (which are specifically designed for repetitive volumnous work), but the reply was that we shouldn't set the precedent of rewarding barnstars for numerically-based tasks, and implied the threat of continuously MfD'ing the contest if we attempted to do so (like they did with the Awards Center - I was very surprised and disappointed that participants didn't step up to defend it). So we need to be careful in determining what exactly the awards will represent, and how they will be awarded.

Since rewarding iterations (passes with AWB on all of the pages in the set) are out, we really don't need the globe-in-stand (award we were working on) anymore. Two awards should suffice.

Once we get started with the contest, I'd like to kick the whole thing off with a round of medals for those dedicated few who have worked hard on the project so far.

I followed the instructions about bypassing the cache, but I'm still not seeing anything. I tried editing the whole article, the whole stats section, and various subsections, but saw no extra tab. I use Firefox for everything *but* Wikipedia, for one reason: I need to override my colors due to a visual impairment I have (working too long with a white background gives me headaches), but with Wikipedia I can't do that, because if I do I can't see redlinks. It really, really sucks, because otherwise I'm a huge fan of Firefox. So, I have IE set up to use Wikipedia's colors.

Anyway..."watch button"? I don't see a "watch button". I see a watch checkbox (under the edit box) and I see a watch hyperlink (which is at the very bottom of the page). Deletion of Page

I noticed today that your userid deleted the page Canadian Institute of Portrait Artists with the reason stated that thorough research had been done and no notability items could be provided. I could have provided many notability articles about this organization. I asked in the discussion area for the page for some information on where this information should be stored, but the person who quite curtly told me that there were no notable items in the article, did not respond. This experience has definitely soured my on any future contributions to Wikipedia. I have read on various websites that Wikipedia is always looking for more editors and content contributors. Before the disappointing lack of response from the person who labelled my article as not notable, I wanted to contribute to this endeavour and do my part to further it. As a new contributor, he offered me no help when I asked him to clarify what he meant and was really not very encouraging, but bordering on rude. I know that I will not be contributing anything further - I don't really have time to receive this kind of treatment. template synonyms

Re this edit and others replacing {{dab}} or {{disambiguation}} with {{disambig}} -- what was the point of those? They weren't copy edits, since the copy (displayed text) didn't change. Are {{dab}} etc. deprecated for some reason? -- JHunterJ (talk) 22:16, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

It says there that you find so many different templates "confusing" and that "people may think [the synonyms] are two different reference templates, but they're not. I'm just trying to make things at least slightly clearer to editors, mainly not-so-experienced ones. Hope that answers your question." It does answer, but I'd still suggest that editing a page solely to replace such a template with its synonym is unneeded -- if there are other fixes to be made and you can also standardize on the "real" template, peachy. Of course. I've somewhat been "working on" lately to try and, if I am going to do that, fix anything else on the page while I'm there (which is what you suggested).
