KC Chiefs picture

It got taken off by this guy named Ali'i. How can we get this picture back up and not taken down again? --HPJoker (talk) 01:58, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Apparently fair use images aren't allowed on userpages. I have seen them (and stay there) on plenty of others, which is why I thought it would be fine to keep it there. Sorry... I'll tell you if I find another picture you can put there.   jj137 (Talk) 02:01, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

You just have to look at the copyright on the image page. The only other image we could use that was on the KC article was Image:Kansas City Arrowhead Stadium.jpg. Since it is in the public domain, you can do whatever you want with it. I doubt you'd like a picture of their stadium in the userbox, but you could alter it to just have a big "Arrowhead" and then reupload it. That image seems to be the same one we were having the fair use problem with, so we can't use that. I'm not really sure about how to find copyrights, you may have to ask someone else about that. OK, let's try to get this straight.

Yes, you can only use pictures from Wikipedia. However, it is simple to upload any picture. The thing is, those two pictures are exactly the same, and since they are fair use, we can't use it at all. Red Link Recovery Project

Please reread the "How do I use this list?" section before making any more changes. If the red link and the suggestion are different, list the reason why they are different but do not change the red link to the suggestion.

You need to check the "What links here." The easiest was is to use Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups. Then when you roll over a link a yellow box will appear with the name of the article or redirect to another article for that link. Put your mouse over the "actions" tab and scroll down to the "what links here."

If the page that should have the red link does not appear on the "what links here" page, you simply delete it from the list. If the page is on there, you need to see if changing it to the suggestion is appropriate. If it is appropriate, change the link on the page and delete it from the list. If the suggestion is not appropriate, leave the link alone, struck the suggestion on the list, and list the reason why the suggestion is not appropriate.

As for redirects, generally I see if there are three or more correct suggestions on the list of "what links here", I will do a redirect. Your redirect of What, Now? to What Now was not needed for the fact that What, Now? only has one link to it, the red link recovery page.

One more thing I just thought of. When you struck out an inappropriate suggestion, list your reason as the difference from the red link and the suggestion, not the page with the red link and the suggestion. For example the PepsiCo should probably state Brand of food vs. Fort. See what the main page is looking for in this case a brand of food that Frito-Lay makes vs. what the suggestion says it is.

I wanted to change the title, but this doesn't seem possible so i was removing this content to create a new one. This article is a requested one, under the article on "Hybridity". 1953 in New Zealand

Hi, I noticed that you just removed a blank "See also" section from 1953 in New Zealand. In case you were considering doing that on any of the other "(year) in New Zealand" articles, I just thought I'd mention that I am progressively working through the series (1800 - 2008) inserting a series of "See also" links to replace a motley and ill-formatted collection of links which adorns the "Events" section of the article on most pages. Socks

A username and its associated IP can actually violate WP:SOCK, it's no different than any other two accounts. The question is were they disruptive, tag-teaming, vote stacking, etc. In the case of HPJoker, it's obvious to me the IP and he are the same. They were disruptive in that they both removed legit edits by Socby19, at least one of which was from an article talk page, which no one should ever do. There is also vandalism. To me, this is a threat. Most of this is incivility, disruption, and vandalism. I'm issuing warnings to HPJoker and the IP in this case. — Rlevse • Talk • 21:01, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

I asked HPJoker about those edits a few days ago (and I have the complete conversations in Archive 3 of my talk page). He has said many times he lives in a hotel and some of those edits were definitely not him (while others were). I asked him about that vandal edit here, his response here. He also told me a few days ago he was going on vacation and would deal with this when he got back, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.   jj137 (Talk) 22:59, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

The only edit by the IP I find out of synch with the others is the one to Seekirchen am Wallersee‎, so the hotel claim is possible but I'm not convinced. There are still sufficient evidence, such as edit removals, to be suspicious even if one accepts the hotel claim, which is why I warned vice blocking. Another reason to always log in, then one won't have these sorts of problems. Also a reason to follow rules such as not removing another's edits. — Rlevse • Talk • 23:40, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I see what you mean. I think it really is a tough situation we have here. It may be hard to make any final decisions until HPJoker gets back from his vacation, when we can ask him more about what's going on. I really have no idea why he deleted some of Socby19's edits to my user talk page (and some other pages, maybe, I'll have to check), but I know it really could get him blocked because it is considered vandalism.   jj137 (Talk) 23:46, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it is a tough case and I tend to err on caution in such cases. When I block, it tends to stick. I've only overturned myself twice that I can recall and only been overturned by others once, maybe twice, that I recall. The ONLY reason I didn't block for the edit removals, which is indeed vandalism, is that vandal blocks are generally not done if more than a day or so old, unless it's long term vandalism. It all goes back to edit warring they had over the MLB 07: The Show article. Apparently HPJoker wanted to keep a "Bugs and Flaws" section of the article, and Socby19 wanted to get rid of it, and they've been arguing continuously since.   jj137 (Talk) 23:54, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Invitation

Thanks for the invitation. I'll certainly consider it. I'm not sure I can claim to be a true blood Red Sox fan. I have two teams (the Braves are the other). But before 2004, I had only a passing interest in baseball. After watching every minute of the Greatest Comeback of All Time, I became obsessed with the sport. Without the Sox, I might never have had the love of the sport I have today. I love to watch them play. Their games are so damn exciting! Hey, who's your Papi? Yeah, the Sox games are very exciting. I love the Red Sox but the Reds are still my favorite team (too bad they can never win). The Reds have a lot of history to them (you, know the whole Big Red Machine thing). However, you do know that they ruined Carlton Fisk's classic homer by up and winning Game 7. However, I do think that the 1990 World Series is one of the most underrated upsets of all time. That A's team was vicious. Griffey was my favorite player growing up. He's such a class act. I can't wait for No. 600. Ryan Freel is not well. Flying headlong toward walls that don't move is not a sign of any good deal of sanity ;). And my God, Adam Dunn can hit. He's hit some of the longest home runs since the Mick. I'm still partial to the Braves. For since 1991, they have won more games that any team in the Majors. Any team that's tried to win two consecutive division titles will tell you that 14 is absolutely ridiculous. Sorry it took so long to get back! (Apparently I forgot to reply :( ) Yes, I definitely have to agree with all of that. Freel is probably the craziest Reds player I've seen in a while, and Dunn... well, you know it's something when you're the only player in history to hit a homer to another state (yes, he knocked one over the river and into Northern Kentucky). The good thing is, they're both playing each other in interleague next June, so hopefully it'll be entertaining. Also, the Braves are great. I couldn't believe how good Jeff Francoeur was when he broke into the majors in 2005, and he's really helped their team (even when they lost the division).   jj137 ♠ Talk 04:07, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

:D, Yeah, Frenchie got his right arm sawed off at birth and had a cannon put in its place. It's so much fun to watch him play. I'm glad he's finally not swinging at everything that moves. On Dunn, I just remember what he's done to the Braves. In 2005, he hit a 535 footer off John Smoltz (no less) that cleared the steamboat in dead center field, bounced once on a sidewalk outside the stadium and into the river. I have a bit more respect for him now since I learned he got drug tested almost on a daily basis in 2006 and 2007. His stuff's real man. That's unbelievable. Spring Training? Dunn is, pretty simply, a beast. I remember watching one game a few years ago, seeing him completely clearing a huge building in dead center. I just stood there in awe; I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I remember it went straight into the river (or mabye bounced), and I think that was the one that went to Kentucky. It's too bad Bonds has gotten into all that trouble; I used to have a lot of respect for him because of his power but now just don't care, other than that the all-time home run king, a pretty powerful position, may have been on drugs.   jj137 ♠ Talk 01:44, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Sure -- There's a whole other set of gelechiid moths that need created (I'm working on the Arctiid moths): List of gelechiid genera. Same basic style, just replace the familia part of the taxobox with "[[Gelechiidae]]"

The point is it lets folks comment on whether the task is conceivably useful or not. Is there any chance Pseudosymmoca (picked at random) will ever be anything other than a stub? You've created quite a few (hundreds?) of articles, just like this one, that I think might as well simply be redirects to the relevant family (they're all effectively contentless). Creating these as stubs, rather than redirects, strikes me as a waste of time. Are you intending to watch all these articles so that someone will notice if some random vandal makes Pseudosymmoca say "Moths suck!" (or worse). Do you have any expectation that anyone will watch these articles? These sorts of questions would come up if you were doing this with a bot (that had a task that needed to be approved). -- Rick Block (talk) 05:30, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
