Questions

Heya hope you are having a good morning I have some questions to ask you. SkyTheWolf (Talk) 20:19, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

So regarding my requests for rollback permissions what would I do since both of them are there.. Do I attempt to remove the first one? SkyTheWolf (Talk) 20:21, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
Also if you have the time could you please review the request thanks and have a great weekend! I will respond as soon as I can if you have any message for me. SkyTheWolf (Talk) 20:23, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
A bot will take care of any "closed" request (i.e. anything marked with "withdrawn", "done", or "not done"), so you don't have to do anything. As far as the request itself goes, I don't do rollback perm requests so my primary advice would be to be patient.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! Primefac (talk) 20:24, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
Oh ok thanks! SkyTheWolf (Talk) 20:25, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
May I ask who does rollback requests. SkyTheWolf (Talk) 20:25, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
No idea. Perm requests, much like every area of Wikipedia, is a "do what you want" area of adminning, so it's not like we have a list or rota of who does which permissions. If you look at the page history you'll likely see a few admins' names popping regularly, but I think in general waiting for your request to be reviewed is a better idea than pestering admins about such matters - often it will cause them to delay the review even further! Primefac (talk) 20:27, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
Sorry my impatience gets the best of me sometimes that I will admit I will try to be more patient with the admins while waiting for the review of my request. SkyTheWolf (Talk) 20:28, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
Sounds like a plan! I will say from my own experience, it can be hard some times (especially if you know someone is online and you just need them to reply) but there's no rush in the wiki-world so you might as well relax and enjoy the ride. Primefac (talk) 20:29, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

User vandalism & pgaming

Hello, I saw this editor who removed a large portion of Wikipedia:Protection policy with the WP:XC user right and thing they might have WP:PGAME'd to get there in order to try to avoid detection by bots/filters. They only have 13 live contribs and can only assume this since they have no talk page history and no warnings for over 500 deleted edits? Their edits overall do not seem constructive and I don't think that them having access to EC pages is a benefit unless I am missing something I can't see with their deleted history. Thanks, Terasail[✉️] 20:37, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

Thanks, I've pulled their ExCon status. Primefac (talk) 20:41, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

Sony Music Template

Hello Primefac. I hope that you are doing great. Even though they are under the same segment, Sony Music Group (Worldwide operations) and Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) (Japanese operations) are independent entities. Therefore, I suggest editing Sony Music's template and creating a new template dedicated to Sony Music Entertainment (Japan).

Since I am still relatively new to editing, I am not sure if I have the right to conduct these changes. Additionally, can you please take a look at my articles (Draft:Lasengle & Draft:Boundary) and give me some feedback?

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChaosSlayer (talkcontribs) 00:46, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

You are always welcome to be BOLD and make changes that you find appropriate, but if you're not sure whether to split them I would suggest a discussion at either the template's talk page or WikiProject Music.
I took a quick look at your drafts and they are short and appear well-referenced, so that's always a plus in my book. I did not look at the quality of the references but if they are independent and reliable then you shouldn't have any issues. Primefac (talk) 12:25, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
Got it and thank you for your feedback. ChaosSlayer (talk) 00:38, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Page mover

Hi @Primefac, thanks for granting me the permission of page mover! I would like to move Category:Stored-value_payment_card to Category:Stored-value_payment_cards (make it plural), am I allowed to simply do that myself (and modify the category on the pages of course), or do I still need to reach consensus with other editors? For what its worth, I made the category myself before. PhotographyEdits (talk) 19:47, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

I'm not super-familiar with categories, but WP:CAT says Names of topic categories should be singular, which implies that it should be "card" and not "cards." Primefac (talk) 09:35, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

AWB Bot

Hi, just wanted to know how you created an AWB based bot. Many bot are just AWB bots. How do they work? How are they made? Is any programming knowledge needed? Can I create one myself? ItcouldbepossibleTalk 06:15, 26 March 2022 (UTC)

An AWB bot isn't really a "bot" in the truest sense, it's just an AWB account that has the ability to auto-save edits. Anything you can do with an AWB bot account you can do with a regular AWB account other than that. Primefac (talk) 07:13, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
How can I get an AWB bot account? What type of bot is PrimeBot? ItcouldbepossibleTalk 07:27, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
A bot account is just an alt account that you create; an AWB bot account is just a bot account that is used to edit via AWB, like PrimeBOT. You have to get permission to run an AWB bot account through the BRFA process, and only bots that meet the Bot policy are accepted.
Might I ask why you want such an account? Primefac (talk) 07:46, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
So that my bot can make edits like PrimeBot like removing name parameter from television articles, instead of doing it manually. ItcouldbepossibleTalk 07:56, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
That's still a rather controversial edit request, with a bot request already on hold and my bot also available. Generally bot requests shouldn't duplicate existing tasks unless the bot operator is unavailable or the new task brings something specific that the old(er) task(s) does not. Primefac (talk) 07:58, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
And do you have any knowledge about programmable bots? How are they made? Where is the coding put? How are bot accounts created? Is it like a user account just some changes to config files? Is there a bot control panel? ItcouldbepossibleTalk 08:01, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
Sure. The short answer is they're quite a bit more complicated, since you don't have a pre-built set of code like AWB to help you out. Basically everything you do has to be coded by hand (or borrowed from other bot's code); Help:Creating a bot gives a good (but quite technical) guide to doing this. Honestly, unless you want to have a bot that does a certain task at a certain time (such as the archive bots) or patrolling for specific changes (such as SineBot or AnomieBOT's auto-date function), you're probably better off using AWB at the start. Primefac (talk) 09:24, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
Ok, but how do you control your bot? Is it automatic? Or does it need to be run? Do you need to stay online to run your bot? Does it edit automatically, or you have to save them? ItcouldbepossibleTalk 10:18, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
@Itcouldbepossible Well, an AWB bot is automatic, so it would be editing automatically. However, it requires a computer to run on, so whatever device you have AWB on needs to be on. There is a way called "toolforge" to run a bot without your computer being on, but I dont know anything about it Rlink2 (talk) 11:30, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
Ok, and Primefac, when and why did some parameters from infobox television get deprecated? ItcouldbepossibleTalk 04:04, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
Any discussions about parameter deprecation would take place on the template's talk page. Primefac (talk) 07:09, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts

In the article Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts there are many old informations, or defitient (for example on the list of important members, there were many of them, not only few as it is mentioned) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Duhh (talkcontribs) 13:05, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Gotcha. Nehme1499 14:42, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Repuest for cheaking.

I have provided references in the most viewed trailer in 24 hour. Please cheak that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Partha Hiranmay (talkcontribs) 15:11, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

I assume you're referring to this list; unfortunately, while your sources are fine, the record is 60 million short of the current 10th-place trailer, so it will not be added to the list. Sorry. Primefac (talk) 16:19, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
I dont understand.109 Million is far larger than 60 million. Partha Hiranmay (talk) 16:55, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
It is a trailer, so it goes in the Trailers section. Primefac (talk) 16:57, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Read it carefully, please

This article have a section of most viewed trailer in first 24 hour. Iron man 3 trailer got 20 million view in 24 hour and it is in the list. So why not kgf 2. I have also provided source. Though kgf 2 teaser trailer has 269 Million view which should be in 3rd of top 1 teaser trailer. But it has no source. But main trailer has source to have place in most viewed trailer in first 24 hour. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Partha Hiranmay (talkcontribs) 17:10, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

You might need to read the page more carefully; you are referring to the "historical record holders" - it is a list of the videos that broke the record at the time they were released. It's the main table in the "Top trailers" section that has the current list of top-10 trailers by number of views in the first 24 hours. Primefac (talk) 17:13, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Asking sorry.

Sorry, I had not noticed that, it is not a article historical record But would you kindly add K.G.F 2 teaser which got 269 Million view, if I provide source . Avengers endgame trailer got 268 and it is in 3rd. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Partha Hiranmay (talkcontribs) 17:23, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Sorry, sorry, sorry.

I am extremely sorry. The list has provided the movies which are released. K.G.F 2 haven't yet released. This is why youtube dont mentioned it in official statement — Preceding unsigned comment added by Partha Hiranmay (talkcontribs) 17:36, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Rugby biography infobox

Many thanks for updating the rugby infobox template to accommodate honorific suffixes! I think I submitted an edit request for this years ago, but nothing ever happened. It would be great, however, if you could adjust the coding to size the honorific suffix in the same way as the person and sportsperson infoboxes. Thanks again! Histmerges of talk pages

Hiya, Primefac. I've just carried out a merge of two NS0 pages. However, what would you do with the talk pages (filmography and performaces), given that they both have a non-trivial page history? Sdrqaz (talk) 12:29, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

I now note with some exasperation that it turns out there was an intervening sandbox, which is impossible to merge without completely making a pig's breakfast of the history: User:Birdienest81/sandbox thirty-one. Sdrqaz (talk) 12:35, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
Okay, few things. First, ignore the sandbox, because it's a single editor, so there are no attribution issues (since they then copied it to the new article).
For the Talk pages, you've got two options. First, move the older page to an /Archive 1 of the newer page. The other option is to merge them and then just restore the old comments. Actually, there's a third option, which is to just leave them where they are because who cares. Based on the age of the threads at the older Talk page (2014) I would go with the "archive" version since they're not current/relevant any more. Primefac (talk) 14:00, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

Proposal for "sponsored name redirections" template

Hi, Primefac! Since you're an admin and I can't list this on any Admin taskforce page, I want to propose a template for "redirections for sponsored names" of article topics. I'm working on re-instating the information of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards to Ghana Music Awards on grounds of title/headline sponsorship, but Wikipedians are doubting/questioning my action. I feel that the "redirections from alternative names" template alone ain't siting right with me, with the redirects of pages like, La Liga Santander, Carabao Cup and DStv Premiership backing my point. I'll be waiting for your response. Thanks!! Pannra (talk) 17:53, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

I don't really do much of anything with regards to redirects, you are much more likely to get a worthwhile response (and discussion) by posting at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Redirect. Primefac (talk) 19:30, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

History merge of No-confidence motion against Imran Khan

Hello, I saw in the editing history of No-confidence motion against Imran Khan that the history merger was completed. I suggested history merger from three pages, first was from the page I created 2022 vote of no confidence in the Imran Khan ministry (it started with a different name), most of the authorship for the current article comes from my work, however I am not credited due to the copying pasting done by User:MasterOfMetaverse, all my work is now credited to the user who copied and pasted it and has a total of 76 edits on Wikipedia.

Page copied from page copied to

I am looking for help to get my work sourced back to me, both page creation and authorship, thank you. Elmisnter! (talk) 18:46, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

I'll take another look later, but no guarantees. Primefac (talk) 19:29, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
Okay, so I stand by my earlier decision to decline the histmerges, and here's why: the various pages that ended up in No-confidence motion against Imran Khan were not moved to that page, they were merged, with proper attribution given in the edit summaries (see Special:Diff/1079719916, Special:Diff/1079810845, and Special:Diff/1079881766). A histmerge is only appropriate when someone performs a copy/paste pagemove, for example this gigantic paste at Ghana Music Awards when they attempted to move Vodafone Ghana Music Awards to that location
Technically speaking, by giving proper attribution in the edit summaries, your contributions are still credited, they just don't show up in that page's history. Primefac (talk) 19:59, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for taking the time to review the situation, sorry for not replying earlier, this was apparently in the notice menu instead of the alert menu (I need to see which is which). Apparently the same user who copied the whole article, has restarted the original article here :) Elmisnter! (talk) 12:21, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

Request for IP Block exempt

Hi Primefac, since you're both an administrator and a checkuser, I wished to request you directly to grant me IP block exempt permission. Yesterday, while I was using a VPN connection, I found myself blocked from Wikipedia due to the IP that is recognised as belonging to a corporation. Sometimes, I need to be on VPN because a number of foreign sites don't open on my Indian ISP. Examples include the websites of Texas/Ohio legislatures. I, despite being from India, show significant interest in US related articles, and thus sometimes VPN is a necessity. I could've mailed this request, but because my usage of VPN isn't for anonymity reasons, I believe it's better to keep a record of the same on Wikipedia. I have also read all rules and conditions for this right, and agree to abide by the same. Thanks! ---CX Zoom(he/him) (let's talk|contribs) 15:43, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

Done. Primefac (talk) 15:33, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

Range block

Hi Primefac,

I got an e-mail asking me to perform a range block. I don't think I have sufficient technical understanding of range blocks to know if it is appropriate, but I see you have recently blocked one of the IPs involved for the type of disruption the person who e-mailed me is concerned about. Your block summary indicates it is a known long term abuser. The suggested range block is 78.3.48.0/21. Do you think that is an appropriate range block? I want to minimize collateral damage. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:42, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

I mean, the two recent IPs from that range are already blocked, and I don't see any other IPs editing from that range (productively or otherwise). In other words, I can see it being of use were the IPs not already blocked, but I think unless another IP pops in that range there's not much point. Primefac (talk) 20:55, 3 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks. That was pretty much my thinking too. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 21:02, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

Deprodding of T. J. Anderson (rugby union)

I have removed the {{proposed deletion/dated}} tag from T. J. Anderson (rugby union), which you proposed for deletion. I have expanded the article and added sources. If you still think this article should be deleted, please do not add {{proposed deletion}} back to the page. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. WP:AFC, April 2022

Hello there! I hope you are doing well today.

I just had a question about this edit that you made to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants page. You added my name to the "Probationary members" part of the page. What is that? Why was my name put there? Any and all answers are appreciated. Cheers! Fakescientist8000 13:08, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

You meet the minimum requirements, but only just. Being on probation only means that you can be removed from the list for any reason without prior discussion. Primefac (talk) 15:27, 10 April 2022 (UTC)
Ah, thank you. Cheers! Fakescientist8000 10:33, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

Regarding some past moves

Hello again, Primefac. I had some concerns about some past moves you did when Wikipedia:Article wizard shifted to the current (version 3.0). Basically the pages that started their life at Wikipedia:Article wizard 2.0 currently reside at Wikipedia:Article wizard/version1 & the original version 1 was moved to Wikipedia:Article wizard/version1/old. Their current locations are kind of really weird. And I couldn't even find a discussion regarding the same, so assuming it was an unilateral move. If you don't have any concerns, can I move them to what should ideally be their name? I'll do all the link cleanup work. Thanks! CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talkCL) 13:42, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

Please don't assume, we had a huge discussion about the revamp in 2017, and I wouldn't have moved someone else's draft wizard to live unilaterally. As we do not refer to them as anything other than "version 1" and "/old", I see little reason to complicate and potentially confuse matters by moving the pages yet again. Primefac (talk) 14:20, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
Sure, I won't be doing another reshuffle. Thanks for your quick response. CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talkCL) 14:27, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

Clay Clark

Thank you for your evaluation of my draft on Clay Clark. My real interest in creating the draft was to highlight the Reawaken America tour, which is pulling together various strands of U.S. political discourse into one synergistic argument. Would you advise revising to shift the focus from Clark, who created the tour, to the tour itself? Thanks!AlterEgo813 (talk) 16:24, 13 April 2022 (UTC)

It sounds like it might be better to write a draft about the tour, then. Primefac (talk) 17:53, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. That makes sense to me. AlterEgo813 (talk) 22:26, 13 April 2022 (UTC)

Draft:Esther Hill Hawks (2)

Please advise me as to what I did wrong with this redirect which you did not delete. It had been tagged as {{db-afc-move}} by a reviewer who wished to accept the draft. I moved the redirect into draft space and changed the tagging to {{db-moved}}, which states that the page was tagged for deletion, and was then moved by a page mover. However, deletion is still considered non-controversial maintenance. We still don't need the moved redirect. I have now accepted the article on Esther Hill Hawks. Did I make some mistake in how I dealt with the redirect? Robert McClenon (talk) 15:06, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

You're over-complicating things. If someone tags a page with db-afc-move, let an admin delete it and then they can accept the page. If there's a redirect in the way, as with Draft:Ice IV (3), don't worry about doing a formal page swap, just move the existing redirect to the draft space without leaving a redirect and then accept the draft. If you don't create unnecessary redirects while you're working, you don't need to G6 them, and as long as it's fairly obvious how Page A ended up as Draft:B then we're all good. Primefac (talk) 15:25, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

My apology to you

If there's one thing I've learned, is that you always must keep your word with others. Especially in a strict field like wikipedia. As I said, reflecting, I think the reason why I got back into my higher quality files ship is because there was a specific poster I wanted to be on the inbox of the second sonic movie. Now that the film and the poster are finally out, I'm officially off the ship. My only question left is if there is a program used to reduce image size, tell me what is it cause I'd love to check it out. ChallengeCick (talk) 19:02, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

I don't really do much with files, so I couldn't tell the best way of reducing filesize; maybe ask at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content to see what's available. Primefac (talk) 09:38, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
I checked it out, but it doesn't seem so clear to me at a glance. Anyway, I suggest unblocking me one more time. I got into contact with ItsMarkWbu and awaiting a response regarding the situation. But for now, I suggest doing the smart thing AND the right thing by unblocking and giving me one more chance. I know the reason why you blocked me for file uploading. It's not because of uploading high quality NFFs. It's because I was forcing it to a point where it got a bit stupid. But thankfully (and I can say this with confidence), it's over! ChallengeCick (talk) 18:50, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

New administrator activity requirement

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Request

I've changed the name of a template (and as I'm an idiot, I've also made a big mess, then fixed). Can you please move the categories of the template? I can't do this as I'm not a page mover.

In addition, I ask you to move this category as "players" is better than "footballers".

I've also sent you an email. Dr Salvus 20:55, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay, was away this weekend. I see that the categories have been nominated for speedy renaming, which is the proper procedure. I would advise doing so for the footballers cat as well. Celebrating a birthday on a specific date does not necessarily mean that was the true birthday (look at Christmas or Presidents' Day), but if you have a source that says "they celebrate on this day because it was her birthday", or otherwise have a reliable source that indicates it's her birthday, then by all means feel free to re-add it along with the information. No objection to the removal of the flag; I almost removed it myself when I removed the "extended confirmed" flag, but I saw at the time that a half dozen or so other administrators also had that flag, so I figured I'd leave it alone. Just curious, do the administrators who keep that flag need it solely for Tor usage? (I don't use Tor, so that wouldn't affect me.) As a side note, I saw a few other administrators still had the extended confirmed flag, which puzzled me a bit, but I didn't dig into it at the time. 28bytes (talk) 02:56, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @28bytes: From a technical standpoint, the only reason that they should need it is for Tor usage via the torunblocked userright. Users in the 'Administrators' group already can bypass simple IP blocks via the ipblock-exempt userright. SQLQuery Me! 06:10, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
As SQL says, some admins might need it, but we were discussing perms last night on IRC and I noticed that your name was listed for IPBE and figured it was a leftover from your brief non-adminship. Primefac (talk) 07:24, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
Makes sense. 28bytes (talk) 19:57, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

Query

Hello, Primefac,

Since you are a functionary, I imagine you are a part of all of the discussions that go on behind-the-scenes so I had a question for you:In the past year, I've noticed that when an active editor of Wikipedia passes, their account is blocked. This is especially true if they were a long-time editor or an administrator. Has this been discussed anywhere or is it just an informal custom that has evolved over the past few years?

I ask because I came across an edit by a deceased administrator whose account wasn't blocked and I wasn't sure if it was appropriate for me to block it or if I should ask a functionary or bureaucrat to do so. I don't expect to run into this again but I thought I'd ask you, as you are more up-to-date on policies and guidelines than just about anyone else I can think of. Thank you, in advance, and I hope you are having a pleasant weekend. Liz Read! Talk! 21:02, 9 April 2022 (UTC)

As far as I am aware, we are not in the habit of blocking deceased users, per WP:DWG, though advanced permissions are almost always removed as a matter of course, which in your case would need to involve a bureaucrat to remove said bit. Primefac (talk) 06:42, 10 April 2022 (UTC)
... and deceased editor's accounts are "usually" locked by the stewards per same. Izno (talk) 06:57, 10 April 2022 (UTC)
Hello, Primefac and Izno,
Just finally circling back to see your answer to my query. I guess I shouldn't have been vague and hypothetical, the admin whose account I came across is User:Dreadstar, an admin I greatly miss. We communicated a lot during the whole Gamergate debacle. He passed away a few years ago so probably before the current custom of indefinitely locking deceased admins' accounts. Liz Read! Wikimedia Foundation Inc. is corrupt and bad

Hello. Wikimedia Foundation Inc. is corrupt and bad. I'm not sure why you're attempting to defend the organization or why you feel it's your place to. I wish you would stop. Since you asked for evidence, here is a very easy example. And it's even posted to a village pump. --MZMcBride (talk) 00:43, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

I am not defending anyone, I am removing a problematic statement from a location where it will do no good. The user page in question is a role account, and thus is not used as a forum for discussion or change, or even as a contact for anyone other than that committee. I can understand the temptation to shout into the void in the hopes that someone will hear you, but ask yourself this - what are you trying to accomplish with your posts? If you want people to take your concerns seriously, simply saying "WMF is bad!" isn't going to do any more than those that shout out that Facebook is evil or Amazon is run by a greedy man with a space rocket. Change isn't easy, but hand-wavey complaining isn't going to do much to affect change, and if it happens often enough it gets disruptive. Primefac (talk) 05:59, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

Updates to bureaucrat minimum activity requirements

Hello Primefac.

Following a discussion at the Bureaucrats' noticeboard, the minimum activity requirements for bureaucrats have been updated to also include the the recently updated minimum editing requirements for administrators (i.e. at least 100 edits every 5 years). This will be enforced beginning in January 2023. Should you no longer wish to volunteer as a bureaucrat you may request removal at SRP and.or let us know at WP:BN.

Discussion at WP:HD § Request for template editor

You are invited to join the discussion at WP:HD § Request for template editor. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:38, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

Hi Primefac. Maybe you could take a look at this? The OP's account is only about a month old. They might enthusiatically want to help with this part of Wikipedia, but some of their recent edits seem to indicate they might not be yet experienced enough for such things. For example, I'm not really sure why their edit to Template:Uw-uhblock/sandbox was needed. Anyway, since you're experienced with templates, maybe you could give this editor some advice. They also might gain experience by joining WP:WPT. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:45, 21 April 2022 (UTC)
Not sure what needs saying that the others haven't yet; they fail every metric required for TPE except for "not being blocked", most of them by a mile. Thanks for the heads up, though! Primefac (talk) 07:10, 22 April 2022 (UTC)
And then I go and comment anyway :-p Primefac (talk) 07:12, 22 April 2022 (UTC)

Deleted Article

Hello Primefac,

I believe an error was made when a speedy deletion of an article names Charlie nne xavier, the article had all the required sources, medical journals, national media stories, no external links to promoted the person, several independent and verified sources. May i respectfully request for the article to be reinstated? I would greatly appreciate your time. Here is an example of a current wiki article, that is similar in nature, and yet is allowed. Stephanie Nielson Thank you so much Andrecanada (talk) 14:57, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

The short answer is no; I'm not going to restore Charlie nne xavier when both Charlie Anne xavier and Draft:Charlie Anne Xavier already exist. Primefac (talk) 16:06, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
Just as a follow-up, if the other article does get deleted (I will leave it for another admin to decide), I would highly advise that you work on the Draft and then submit it through the Articles for Creation process. Primefac (talk) 16:18, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
Primefac, The reason why there was 2 articles, it was because it was a move that created a redirect, I added news articles sources from national media, i added medical journals supporting the medical treatment, I am not sure what also I could have done to meet the guidelines, I am really hoping that someone could be fair and take a minute to look into this person accident and medial coverage, thank you for your time. Elspeth Barker deceased

There is now a death notice in the EDP (Eastern Daily Press). Is that good enough? Busterbarker2008 (talk) 14:53, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

Sure. Primefac (talk) 15:02, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
I see you didn't like the reference to the EDP. There is now an obit in The Times and I will try to revert but adding that as reference. However, I may only be able to supply a url. Is that OK? Busterbarker2008 (talk) 11:00, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
I added in the full URL to the EDP so that it was easier to find, and if I'm not mistaken someone has already added in the Times obit. Primefac (talk) 11:09, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
I see another user has done a good job with the available citations so I have not done anything. The article now states, incorrectly, following the extremely unfactual Times obituary (it mentions several marriages that actually did not take place, facts easily ascertainable from the Fraser biography), that she was born Elspeth Langlands. Actually, she was born Elizabeth Langlands, but I am not going to change this until I can find a good source. Busterbarker2008 (talk) 11:09, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

Thank you

Hello,

I sent you an email with the below a minute ago.

I noticed you just contributed to the Scardust article. Thank you for cleaning it up. It looks better from an editing perspective, now.

I noticed you're also an admin. I was wondering if it's possible to watchlist the page? I noticed that the page has been pretty volatile in the past. I just want to make sure that if there is a disagreement, someone can be there quickly, since it looks good right now.

Thank you in advanced.

(Eyesofagony (talk) 06:24, 30 April 2022 (UTC))

Given that your email is identical, I will reply here. Administrators have no special powers over other editors, other than some janitorial work and blocking users (and protecting pages), so the fact that I am an admin gives me no extra "rights" as far as editing a page goes over other users. In theory you could ask anyone to keep an eye on the page, though spamming folks with vague requests for assistance that may or may not be necessary is a) considered spam, and b) based on the IRC conversation I'm watching, potentially cause your work to be undone as other editors take a closer look at the page. Primefac (talk) 06:35, 30 April 2022 (UTC)
Okay. I wasn't asking for "special powers," I only wanted someone to respond quickly in case of a disagreement over vandalism, which is very common on that page. I guess this is an overreaction. Thank you. Eyesofagony (talk) 07:40, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

I also noticed you deleted the image I uploaded. The band sent it to me specifically to use here. How do I properly upload this? Eyesofagony (talk) 06:33, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

(edit conflict) I haven't deleted anything (I am not a Commons administrator) but I know that it's a copyright violation and thus will likely be deleted in the near future. Primefac (talk) 06:35, 30 April 2022 (UTC)
Okay you seemed to have removed it only from the article. Thank you. Eyesofagony (talk) 07:35, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Template:Infobox ship begin

Hey, just a heads up, but the notice you posted at the above template broke it. I had been editing an article that uses it (part of the template itself in this edit, coincidentally) and couldn't figure out what I'd done to the template. Then I saw you had edited the template itself, which is what caused the issue. Parsecboy (talk) 13:15, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Yes, your edit summary indicated that. The way the template family is set up, there is logistically no real way to add the notice that I can think of at this point in time, though my undo of your undo was an attempt of that. Primefac (talk) 13:27, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Template:Infobox ship

The community decide to merge all those sub templates into Template:Infobox ship.

After the merge, will it affect the articles still use the old combine templates ? Are we or bot gonna need to change the codes in each articles ?-- Comrade John (talk) 09:46, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

After the merge, all pages using the various ship templates will be updated to use the new infobox. Depending on exactly how the merge takes shape, it will likely be my bot that goes through and converts those uses. Primefac (talk) 09:55, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Can you write the guideline of merge after the merge is complete ? Since other language wikipedia such as Chinese wikipedia also use this set of templates and also affect this merge operation.-- Comrade John (talk) 09:58, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
I don't think templates work interwiki. Each wiki have their own templates and those will be needed to updated separately I think. 0xDeadbeef (T C) 10:00, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Chinese wikipedia have tons of ship articles using Template:infobox ships sub templates via translation from English wikipedia , it definitely affects them. In short , with a guild line , which make other language wikipedia to do a merge operation easier.-- Comrade John (talk) 10:06, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
You can use the sidebar on the page of Template:Infobox_ship_begin to find templates on other wikis. Changes on enwiki only affects enwiki. 0xDeadbeef (T C) 10:13, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
0xDeadbeef, you're missing the point of the question. On, for example, Chinese Wikipedia, someone copy/pastes the English version of the "ship X" templates, there is likely a 1-to-1 correlation between the parameters in the English and Chinese versions (and potentially even a language-wrapper like we have for some German-language templates). If our one-template {{infobox ship}} doesn't match up with their multi-template ship family, then it will not be as easy to just copy/paste from en-wiki to zh-wiki.
To answer the question, though, I honestly don't know how the exact merge will take place, because I haven't started working on it yet. If the parameters are (more or less) unchanged, just in a different arrangement, then it shouldn't affect the other language wikis. If there is a shift in the parameter names and usage then it might require new wrapper templates to be created. I can make no promises or guarantees about how this merge will affect other languages. Primefac (talk) 10:22, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying. 0xDeadbeef (T C) 10:30, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Let's hope the merge is just only to merge all the parameters in sub templates into one template and only delete all sub templates names in articles, beside that, nothing change.--Comrade John (talk) 10:33, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
I do generally try to perform mergers with the smallest disruption possible. Primefac (talk) 10:35, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) I went ahead and made {{Infobox ship}} a WIP template first after ensuring that nothing currently transcludes that redirect. 0xDeadbeef (T C) 09:58, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

Additional question, how long do you think to merge these sub templates ?-- Comrade John (talk) 15:29, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

Depends on how long it takes me to code up a suitable replacement. Could be a few hours if I get a block of time and it's straight-forward, could be a few weeks while I figure out how to cleverly do something. There's no rush, plus I'm not really in one, so I guess in summary it will get done when it gets done. Primefac (talk) 16:40, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

tainted RfC

Hi. If there is an RfC regarding a policy change, and it tainted, what will be the appropriate venue to ask for a procedural close? Given the editor who started it is retired. AN, or ANRFC? —usernamekiran (talk) 19:01, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

I suppose it depends on what you mean by "tainted". If there is relatively low participation, any uninvolved editor can close it, but otherwise I would ask an uninvolved administrator to take a look (this can be direct on their talk page or at AN). Primefac (talk) 20:16, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Indian politics/Archive 4#Constituency titles, the proposal section "Proposal : Wikipedia:Naming conventions Indian constituencies" has a biased opening. OP created Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Indian constituencies), from copying the content from UK constituencies per their opinion/need (the attribution has been provided with the first/creation edit summary of Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Indian constituencies)). In the that proposal, OP has linked to this newly created "guideline" — Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Indian constituencies), giving an impression that the proposal is somewhat supported by this pre-existing guideline. And on the guideline's page, OP has linked to the currently ongoing discussion as "references". I just saw Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Indian constituencies)#Requested move 11 May 2022 while copying links for this comment, apparently OP has not retired, but I would rather not communicate with them. I am also not sure why are they trying to move that page. I also just realised that OP has been moving constituency pages as if the proposed guideline has been accepted. What do you think the next step should be? —usernamekiran (talk) 21:42, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Okay, a few things here. First, this is not (as far as I can tell) a formal RFC, so the whole "you must ask the question as neutrally as possible" thing isn't really required. Second, I see no real opposition to their proposal, so clearly what they are suggesting makes sense to the participants, regardless of whether their rationale/support comes from an "approved" guideline or just one that they are working on to justify their case. Third, your concern about the "guideline" referencing the discussion is reasonable, but I see that it was added mid-April, well after the primary discussion had died down, so it also seems like a reasonable move.
In all, I'm not sure there's anything for administrators to "do" - a discussion was started and a small consensus formed, and since no one has objected it has been enacted (as near as I can tell). Primefac (talk) 05:52, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
Yes, you are right. Although, there has been a discussion started at Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(Indian_constituencies)#Proposal_state regarding similar concerns. —usernamekiran (talk) 14:42, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
See, that's different. If we have an established protocol for creating something like a naming convention, and they did not follow that protocol, then they need to do so. I've left a note at that discussion with a similar note. Primefac (talk) 15:17, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi, can you make your bot clean twitter track params like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Avatar_The_Way_of_Water_poster.jpg&diff=prev&oldid=1087305536 s and t params basically, they are twitter's tracking params. Tehonk (talk) 23:35, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

The short answer is no, those parameters are way too short (and vague); there's no way to distinguish a single t= from something that could actually be important like target=. Thanks for the suggestion though. Primefac (talk) 05:40, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Kidnapping of Joshua Boyle and Caitlan Coleman

Hi, why did you remove the infoboxes from this article? I think it looks better with them. How are they unnecessary? Davidgoodheart (talk) 19:36, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

The title lists Boyle and Coleman, and the fact that they were kidnapped. Including an infobox that then says "Boyle, known for being kidnapped" and "Coleman, known for being kidnapped" is the definition of unnecessary. Primefac (talk) 20:07, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

Declined speedys

OK, understand that there aren't any attribution issues here (the series of sports team ones[1][2][3][4][5]), but I would argue that these should be deleted since the author has copy-paste moved them to bypass a draftification, due to the complete absence of sources in the articles in question. Should I take these to a bulk AfD instead? Mako001 (C)  (T)  🇺🇦 01:44, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

If the articles should be AFD'd, then yes, AFD them (leaving the drafts so they can continue to be worked on). If they're acceptable, just redirect the drafts to the article. Primefac (talk) 12:48, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Hush Puppy (Australian 'Surf-Rock' Band)

Struggling to understand why you draftified Hush Puppy (Australian 'Surf-Rock' Band) when it was at AFD. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hush Puppy (Australian 'Surf-Rock' Band) Creator repeatedly moved the draft to main space against all advice by reviewers, now the draft has been re-titled as Draft:Hush Puppy - (band), tendentiously re-submitted unchanged and declined again, despite her assurance that they had “opted to re-draft the page and continue working on it.” Theroadislong (talk) 19:58, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

I didn't draftify, she did; the only outcome of the AFD I could see was delete or draftify, and it was rather likely she would just recreate it anyway, so I opted to let the slightly-out-of-process draftification slide. Primefac (talk) 20:01, 16 May 2022 (UTC)
For the record, I am rather cross right now, as my conversation with her on IRC this afternoon left me with the impression that this was exactly what she wouldn't be doing. Primefac (talk) 20:08, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

Unblocked for file uploading

Hello again.

Ever since I abused the ability for uploading files (specifically with Sonic Movie 2), I wanted to practice a little bit. And so far, it's going great! So I suggest giving me one final chance at uploading files on wikipedia. I would highly appreciate the unblock. ChallengeCick (talk) 15:14, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

You managed to last a month after the last unblock before it was re-imposed, and the current block has only been active for a little over a month. I am sure there are other areas of Wikipedia that you can edit that do not require you to edit in the File namespace. Please consider waiting for a bit longer. I would also advise placing a formal unblock request on your own talk page so that other (uninvolved) admins might take a look as well. Primefac (talk) 08:22, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Bite Ninja, Inc.

Hi Primefac-

On another note, is there an adjustment that can be made for the Bite Ninja, Inc. article prior to a full deletion? Please let me know at your convenience - want to ensure compliance! Semonative (talk) 18:48, 19 May 2022 (UTC)Semonative

You should ask Praxidicae, as she's the one that nominated it. I was only evaluating the G12 and honestly haven't looked at the page otherwise. Primefac (talk) 20:16, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Course page/Tabs

What's the plan for Template:Course page/Tabs? I am going to restore it until it can be orphaned or substituted. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:15, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Actually, that seems to be fairly useful for navigation... might be worth leaving it be for now. Thanks for catching that, I thought everything was transclusion-less when I deleted them. Primefac (talk) 14:21, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
We already have a general template for tabs at Template:Tabs and even a couple in the see also. Izno (talk) 18:30, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
Cool, I'll do some sort of replacement. Primefac (talk) 18:39, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Izaak Opatz

Hi Primefac-

Is there any chance you could offer me some more detail on the deletion of the Izaak Opatz page? I created this page over two years ago, and it was recently deleted after I made the addition of his most recent album. Any help would be greatly appreciated Semonative (talk) 17:59, 19 May 2022 (UTC)Semonative

It was a word-for-word copy of a few different sources, and when those were removed there wasn't anything left other than overly-promotional language speaking to the wonderful virtues of the man. Your addition was not likely anything other than something that got the page noticed - with a few million pages and only a few thousand active editors at any given point, things sometimes get overlooked or missed, potentially even for years. Primefac (talk) 18:11, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
Hi Primefac-
Thanks for the update; that makes total sense. That was one of the first articles I ever created - I understand the issue now. Is it possible to request a restoration of the page? I will certainly make the necessary adjustments for it to meet the appropriate standard. Semonative (talk) 18:45, 19 May 2022 (UTC)Semonative
Given the copyright violations, no, but I would be willing to restore the references and infobox to a draft page. Primefac (talk) 19:12, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
That would be very helpful. If you can do that, I will make the appropriate changes. Semonative (talk) 22:00, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
Done. See Draft:Izaak Opatz. Primefac (talk) 06:49, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Any reason for blacklisting PsyNFT.xyz?

Hello, I just recieved a denied request for the PsyNFT.xyz whitelist.

When would this site be able to be approved in the future? Before it was denied for using the PsyNFT account, which this is not. I am not associated with them in any way, just a fan of their work.

Can I please get a reason why the site is blacklisted in the first place? Just because of the xyz domain? Thank you! MarianaP123 (talk) 18:14, 21 May 2022 (UTC)

I see you have already asked the same question at the whitelist request, so I will leave it for explanation there. Primefac (talk) 18:16, 21 May 2022 (UTC)

Suggestion/request for "Infobox musical artist"

Hello. I greatly approve of the removal of associated acts section, as it always got overinflated, among various other issues. However, I read on the template that the "spinoff of" parameter was only for bands. For Wikipedia, it would be a great idea to expand the instructions for this parameter to solo artists as well, as many artists have larger artists that they’ve been spun off or branched off from in terms of their success. Artists included in the spinoff parameter will be considered a "mentor" of the artist, while the artists' article will be their "protégé." Expanding this will add encyclopedic value to the parameter and provide an important delegation of information. What are your thoughts on this? ChristianCanada (talk) 18:38, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

I think that's a great discussion to have at the template's talk page, especially since it's not a change I want to necessarily make unilaterally. Primefac (talk) 19:03, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

I've been debating it, given how many redirects I generally create through histmerges etc, but with the bot taking care of most of them I haven't really bothered. If it's something that's catching up living patrollers, though, I suppose I could. Primefac (talk) 10:43, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Why have you deleted a huge section of the John Vig page which lists patents and papers?

The patents and other published works of a scientist such as John Vig are relevant to the page. If you didn't like the full list, how would you suggest modifying the list?

Ambanmba (talk) 13:10, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Contrary to what you might think, listing every patent is not relevant to the page. If a patent, or the device that results from it, is particularly notable, then you are welcome to include it, but it needs to have a secondary source to indicate its importance. (talk page stalker) I think this relates to your (clearly justified) RevDel on Jamia Millia Islamia. I got a similar message on my talk page a couple of days ago. Not terribly confident that this user understands our copyright policies, but maybe you will have more luck. /wiae /tlk 15:49, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

ParserFunction errors

I'm not sure what, but something you apparently did to Template:Infobox NCAA football yearly game is messing up the infoboxes in many articles. See Category:ParserFunction errors. Deor (talk) 14:52, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

(Page watcher) @Deor: I've gone ahead and applied a fix. Seems to have been an issue with the football_season parameter for some reason only looking for {{{Year}}} or {{{year}}}. Not entirely sure why that was done, but its fixed now. Aidan9382 (talk) 15:24, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks. Deor (talk) 15:26, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks Aidan9382, I thought I had cleaned everything up before I started the transition via bot but clearly I missed a few things. Primefac (talk) 17:50, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
The US Announcers section seems to have gone awry in Template:Infobox NCAA football yearly game based on your recent change and bot run. See 1987 Freedom Bowl as one example with the [[{{{US Announcers Link}}}|Announcer]]s. Group29 (talk) 18:16, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks. My only excuse is that it's sometimes easy to miss a parameter when it's set up different than all of the other parameters I changed. Fixed. Primefac (talk) 18:22, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

PrimeBOT 17

I noticed that there was already a task for removing UTM parameters. I think the URL in this github file (indirect since .xyz is blacklisted) has more rules to find and replace. Do you think we could amend your bot task to include more parameters (fbclid, gclid, ref_, etc.), or do you think it would be more beneficial to make it a manual task? 0xDEADBEEF (T C) 01:37, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Oh, I noticed Wikipedia:Bots/Requests_for_approval/ScannerBot. I will comment there. 0xDEADBEEF (T C) 02:25, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Bug report for this task: this change to Acronym was made with an error. It removed the fragment part of the URL incorrectly.

Correct URL https://www.buzzfeed.com/emmyf/buzzfeed-style-guide#2370665

Nohat (talk) 23:42, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks Nohat, that seems to be a rather unusual format for the URL (goes against most string phrasings I've seen). I'll have to dig in to how vital/relevant the # is for URL strings (and whether they are used in anything except phrase delimiters) but I'm sure there's a tweak that will work. Primefac (talk) 07:54, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi @Primefac: I do not have access to the regex that you are using, but based on some of my edits with JWB I noticed issues as well. For example it matches `URL?myutm_content=1` and reduces it to `URL?my` with the regex. Would you mind stopping it and write more tests? 0xDeadbeef (T C) 04:55, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

Do you have a specific page where the bot made this edit? My regex doesn't look for a bare "utm=" (in fact skips that use case entirely to avoid false positives) so I would need to see the diff in question to debug. Primefac (talk) 07:54, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
Sorry, I mistyped the parameter. I changed it to the correct one. See also this. 0xDeadbeef (T C) 08:06, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
FYI, most articles will probably not have some parameter like "myutm_content" or whatever, but when I applied it to a rule list it certainly matched other content a lot more. 0xDeadbeef (T C) 12:42, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
There are currently 0 pages that use that param (search), and my regex wouldn't even recognise that parameter anyway, but I'll keep it in mind. Primefac (talk) 12:46, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
Okay found Battle of Stalingrad. https://rubular.com/r/qU04xXWMvvqqdR - false positive 0xDeadbeef (T C) 23:51, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
I guess it's a good thing I'm not running your regex, then, because mine does not catch that. Primefac (talk) 06:11, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
I got the regex from the BRFA page. It's fine if you have already fixed it. Also how long does it usually take for a BRFA to get approved for trial? Thanks. 0xDeadbeef (T C) 06:34, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
Oh, yeah, that regex has been blown up and rewritten a few times. BRFA timing depends on the task, the size, and how many BAG members are floating about. I do try and get to the requests at least once every week or two, but in this case as I mentioned I'm feeling a bit of a conflict so I'm waiting for another BAG member to reply. Invisible headers in contrib histories

I don't claim to be able to competently interpret compressed .js or .css files, but the <h4 class="mw-index-pager-list-header">24 May 2022</h4> headers are there in the HTML for contrib histories, but - as best I can tell - suppressed via this CSS {display:none}.mw-index-pager-list-header:not(.mw-index-pager-list-header-first) found in this particular megaload en.wikipedia.org/w/load.php?lang=en&modules=ext.echo.styles.badge%7Cext.flaggedRevs.basic%7Cext.ores.styles%7Cext.uls.interlanguage%7Cext.visualEditor.desktopArticleTarget.noscript%7Cext.wikimediaBadges%7Cjquery.makeCollapsible.styles%7Cmediawiki.feedlink%2Chelplink%2Cspecial%7Cmediawiki.htmlform.ooui.styles%7Cmediawiki.htmlform.styles%7Cmediawiki.interface.helpers.styles%7Cmediawiki.pager.styles%7Cmediawiki.special.changeslist%7Cmediawiki.widgets.DateInputWidget.styles%7Cmediawiki.widgets.styles%7Coojs-ui-core.icons%2Cstyles%7Coojs-ui.styles.icons-alerts%2Cindicators%7Cskins.vector.styles.legacy&only=styles&skin=vector

When you copy the web page content, it picks up these headers and they end up visible in your Excel sheet because, after the paste, there is no equivalent to the CSS directives to suppress them. I wonder if in some other skin, they show up. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 08:19, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Multiple Wikipedia user accounts

Hi @Primefac:, Hope you are doing good in your respective field. Recently, I noticed that this user created two Wikipedia user accounts i.e User:Mani Raj Paul and another one is User:Mr.Mani Raj Paul. I know this by seeing these two accounts user page as there is similar information upon Mani Raj Paul. In my opinion this user is innocent. I want to hear from you about what action should be taken to this user. (Note:I am not bothering this user.) Fade258 (talk) 12:21, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

@Fade258: In accordance with the terms of use, they should disclose that they have a doopleganger/second account, and ofcourse continue using only one (in case they don't have access to other one). I see they've not edited from one of the two accounts since 2017, and perhaps created the other account due to any problem. They just disclose the second account and move on. I don't see any abuse here. I'm also running two accounts, the major one being TheAafi. A simple sentence on the user-page that "this user has so and so alternate account" would be helpful. Regards, ─ The Aafī on Mobile (talk) 12:57, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Hypothetical Question

Hi Primefac, I hope you are well. I would like to ask a question about Checkusers and Oversighters. Out of interest, how come you have to be 18 or older?   Blanchey (talk) 18:41, 28 May 2022 (UTC)

There are disclosures that need to be signed, and under-18s cannot sign these disclosures without parental/guardian consent. Primefac (talk) 18:43, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for clarifying. So, if an under 18 had parental consent, they would be eligible to do it? Blanchey (talk) 18:56, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
That would be a question for WMF Legal, as I do not know the answer and do not want to give the wrong answer. Primefac (talk) 20:46, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
