- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:

Hello, I have had to remove your additions to Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia once again, since your additions introduced text that was copied and pasted from copyrighted sources. Wikipedia's copyright policy is very clear on this: the text you add to articles must be written in your own words. Please do not continue to copy and paste text into Wikipedia. - Hi, thanks for discussing—working through these sorts of things through discussion is an important part of how Wikipedia works! If you check the bottom of the following pages: https://www.jmi.ac.in/aboutjamia/departments/environmentalscience/introduction; https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/bsc-degree-in-aeronautics-at-jamia/articleshow/59798876.cms; and https://www.jmi.ac.in/NAAC/self_study_report.pdf, you'll see that they either say "copyrighted" or do not provide a suitable license for our use. WP:COPYOTHERS says that
All creative works are copyrighted, by international agreement, unless either they fall into the public domain or their copyright is explicitly disclaimed
, and that applies here too. Unless the university explicitly licenses its content in a way that Wikipedia can use, we unfortunately can't include it in Wikipedia articles. As in most cases, the best way for you to proceed here would be for you to rewrite the content in your own words. Keep in mind that Wikipedia also adheres to a neutral point of view; we are not here to advertise the university, but rather to factually and dispassionately describe it to readers.
