Minor edits

edit

Fyi, in Wikipedia terms, "minor" means trivial changes to spelling or grammar that have no material effect on the meaning of the article. Size does not matter, for example changing "not" to "now" is only one letter but is certainly not minor. Adding a citation is not minor. Most new editors make this mistake, no harm done but just to remember going forward. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 09:01, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Adding sources

edit

Hi Kasunasirisl, your efforts to add sources are appreciated, but it looks like you may be misunderstanding what sources are used for. Here you added a source after the text

The simplest form of a mattress protector is a lightly quilted fitted sheet. It provides minimal protection against liquids and little or no protection from dust mite allergens.

Your edit summary seems to say that you were looking for a source for the last three words, "dust mite allergens", and the source does contain those words. But that is not what is needed there – the information is about a kind of mattress protector and the fact that it doesn't protect against liquids and allergens. The source doesn't mention mattress protectors, or liquids, and in fact it doesn't say anything that's related to the Mattress protector article. It looks like most of the sources you have added have been unrelated to the actual topic, although they may have included the exact phrase where the "citation needed" tag was located. This edit added a source for the phrase "forbids their depiction"; the source does indeed contain that phrase, as well as the exact wording of the rest of the paragraph – because it is evidently a copy of the Wikipedia article!

A source should support the information in the article. Sometimes a source is also needed for a particular term or phrase, and also when quoting somebody's exact words. But in most cases, if you see a "citation needed" tag, you should not go searching Google Books or other search engines for a publication that uses the exact words that appear just before the "citation needed" tag. Look for reliable sources that contain the information that's unsourced in Wikipedia, for instance that simpme mattress protectirs don't protect against allergens in dust. --bonadea contributions talk 10:23, 22 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
