I have a few items that I have been working on. I have been trying to get some basic feedback on them, but so far I haven't been able to get much reply. - The Universal Code of Conduct enforcement guidelines have been published for consideration. Voting to ratify this guideline is planned to take place 7 March to 21 March. Comments can be made on the talk page.
Technical news
- The user group
oversightwill be renamedsuppressin around 3 weeks. This will not affect the name shown to users and is simply a change in the technical name of the user group. The change is being made for technical reasons. You can comment in Phabricator if you have objections. - The Reply Tool feature, which is a part of Discussion Tools, will be opt-out for everyone logged in or logged out starting 7 February 2022. Editors wishing to comment on this can do so in the relevant Village Pump discussion.

- Community input is requested on several motions aimed at addressing discretionary sanctions that are no longer needed or overly broad.

Miscellaneous

- If you refer to User:Ruskii, I don't know. They only made three edits back in 2008, so I assume they just never edited again. On valuable contributors
It also keeps him as a valuable contributor. Really? Valuable in what way? The silk glove treatment of the Timwi case is an odd contrast to the previous ArbCom's lack of interest in keeping RexxS, an actually extremely valuable and dedicated contributor. You were a member of that ArbCom as well — indeed you were one of the drafting arbs for the RexxS case — and I remember for example your egregious assumption of bad faith here. "They were there more for the power than our mission, among other failings". Yes, I know you struck that (good) while pretending it had never been about RexxS at all (ridiculous, you only have to read it). This user still misses RexxS. Do you have any regrets? - Bishonen's comment prompts a number of thoughts. Here are a few remarks about a one of them.
- On the one hand we have someone who has been making thousands of constructive edits per year, and who has also been a very active contributor in other ways, including being an event coordinator, a Lead Trainer for WMUK, serving on the board Wikimedia UK, acting as chair of "Wikimedia Medicine", and contributing also on the technical side.
- On the other hand we have someone who for many years has been making edits at the rate of tens per year, most of them very minor edits, and who has not contributed significantly in other ways.
- So one of those two is such a "valuable contributor" that we should not consider desysopping for fear of losing that "valuable contributor", whereas for the other one "If they wish to leave [as a result of desysopping] that is their business". I would not myself have said the same, but it's a tenable point of view. Errm, except for one slight thing... which is the "valuable contributor" that we should not wish to lose, and which the one we don't need to bother about? ...
- Bishonen asks if you have "any regrets". If you do, then that would make sense of your comments: you have now decided that you were wrong in what you said in the RexxS case, and now take a different line. Otherwise, try as I may, I can't make sense of what you say, so I will be very interested to read your reply to Bishonen, if you choose to give her one. JBW (talk) 14:36, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Bishonen@JBW My ill-advised statement in the Rexx case has been the cause of considerable personal reflection. I was definitely too quick to dismiss the very human dimensions of being an editor on Wikipedia. I voted to warn or restrict RexxS, not desysop. I noted that
we should be more open to passing restrictions than just desysopping. When a lesser sanction would work, we should take it.
Desysopping should be the last resort, and I just don't think we're there with the Timwi case. Nor did I think we were there with the Rexx case. I was quite supportive of providing an alternative path to Rexx, as I am with Timwi, and as I will with other admins who come before us. - The disappearance of Rexx has also reinforced my notion that sanctions are not to be applied lightly. I wish that I had thought of the Timwi motion back when I was a drafter on Rexx. A year of experience has been valuable. But despite my efforts at compromise motions on that case, the simple truth was that the majority of the committee wanted a desysopping. My callous statement regarding Rexx is exactly why I am extending empathy to Timwi and will continue to do so to those who come before us. I can't change the past, but I can change the future. - Thank you for those comments, which do make your actions much more comprehensible. I don't fully agree with you on either of those two cases, but we don't necessarily have to agree with one another's opinions in order to respect them, and an ability to reconsider one's position and accept that one may have made mistakes is worth a lot. I miss him, see my talk, with two pictures of him, - thanks for one, Bish, Ritchie333 sent the other. We have a RfC for Peter Sellers, and a reverted infobox (not a good one I admit, but a good one was suggested in 2012) for Cosima Wagner, and in both cases users could just have looked up his essay, instead of saying that once upon a time some "principal authors" said that an accessibility feature was not wanted for "their" FA. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:41, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

- thanks so much. can you please, please, give me some feedback on the template below? I created this myself, and posted in several prominent pages on Wikipedia. I posted this at the Idea Lab page at WP:Village Pump before I did so. I did not receive any feedback there. now the template is being proposed for deletion.
- I truly don't object to whatever the communtiy consensus may turn out to be on this; however, from the start of this process, I have been actively seeking feedback, prior to publicly posting this on active pages. and please note, that on the majority of pages where I posted this, many editors saw this item, but did not delete it. obviously, the current deletion process speaks for itself, however I would be very appreciaive to get any constructive and objective feedback on this that you might wish to provide. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 21:09, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

The existing template also seems to be better formatted, and is already in general use. So, I'm not sure what your template achieves that the current one does not? - well, I think that my own template above has numerous items and links that the other one doesn't. and additionally, the links to individual chapters, within broader works such as The Missing Manual, are obviously formatted differently. I would reply simply, that unless you feel that the items , sequence, format, and content, are all literally identical to the other template, then I would suggest that it is easy to determine what I feel my navbox offers that the other one doesn't. a simple visual review of firstly that navbox, and then secondly my own, might help to clarify that.

- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Removing tags on Orania, Northern Cape
Hello CaptainEek, I do not understand why you removed the tags for the article. The article still seems to be written like an advertisement and actively downplays the fact that it is a white nationalist settlement. Editors also refused to get consensus for controversial edits. There was hardly a "compromise" it was one sentence and everything else was reverted without discussion or consensus. I do feel those tags are still warranted. - @Desertambition Actually, you need to use [[User:CaptainEek]] not just [[CaptainEek]]. But otherwise, having the pipe (|) just allows you to give the link a different appearance. - @C1K98V the ratings didn't really change. You know, you can rate your own articles if you're confident in how the rating system works. I use something called WP:RATER. It also helps with assigning articles to WikiProjects, which can be done even if you don't know what rating to give it. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 06:05, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

- @C1K98V If there is such a prohibition, I'll admit I've not heard of it and don't follow it. But I also think I have a very solid grasp of the rating system. Self-rating requires a bit of discipline. At the end of the day, unless its a GA or FA (which are only assignable after formal review), ratings are simply guidance that give information at a glance but don't have to be 100% accurate. - A RfC is open to change the wording of revision deletion criterion 1 to remove the sentence relating to non-infringing contributions.
- A RfC is open to discuss prohibiting draftification of articles over 90 days old.
Technical news
- The deployment of the reply tool as an opt-out feature, as announced in last month's newsletter, has been delayed to 7 March. Feedback and comments are being welcomed at Wikipedia talk:Talk pages project. (T296645)
- Special:Nuke will now allow the selection of standard deletion reasons to be used when mass-deleting pages. This was a Community Wishlist Survey request from 2022. (T25020)
- The ability to undelete the talk page when undeleting a page using Special:Undelete or the API will be added soon. This change was requested in the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey. (T295389)
Arbitration
- Several unused discretionary sanctions and article probation remedies have been rescinded. This follows the community feedback from the 2021 Discretionary Sanctions review.
Miscellaneous
- The 2022 appointees for the Ombuds commission are Érico, Faendalimas, Galahad, Infinite0694, Mykola7, Olugold, Udehb and Zabe as regular members and Ameisenigel and JJMC89 as advisory members.
- Following the 2022 Steward Elections, the following editors have been appointed as stewards: AntiCompositeNumber, BRPever, Hasley, TheresNoTime, and Vermont.

WikiCup 2022 March newsletter
And so ends the first round of the WikiCup. Last year anyone who scored more than zero points moved on to Round 2, but this was not the case this year, and a score of 13 or more was required to proceed. The top scorers in Round 1 were:
Epicgenius, a finalist last year, who led the field with 1906 points, gained from 32 GAs and 19 DYKs, all on the topic of New York buildings.
AryKun, new to the contest, was second with 1588 points, having achieved 2 FAs, 11 GAs and various other submissions, mostly on the subject of birds.
Bloom6132, a WikiCup veteran, was in third place with 682 points, garnered from 51 In the news items and several DYKs.
GhostRiver was close behind with 679 points, gained from achieving 12 GAs, mostly on ice hockey players, and 35 GARs.
Kavyansh.Singh was in fifth place with 551 points, with an FA, a FL, and many reviews.
SounderBruce was next with 454 points, gained from an FA and various other submissions, mostly on United States highways.- Ktin, another WikiCup veteran, was in seventh place with 412 points, mostly gained from In the news items.
These contestants, like all the others who qualified for Round 2, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews of a large number of good articles as the contest ran concurrently with a GAN backlog drive. Well done all! To qualify for Round 3, contestants will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two participants.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Anything that should have been claimed for in Round 1 is no longer eligible for points. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

First, two confessions: (1) I'm more of a beginner on Wikipedia, so please forgive any misstep in this process; (2) I know Aaron Rasmussen, co-founder of Masterclass, so I've had an interest in tracking that page. I have a serious concern about the MasterClass history section. I saw that you were the most recent editor on that topic/section. I'm honestly unsure about where else to flag this problem, so I thought the editor(?). Please let me know where I can flag a serious concern I have with the neutrality of that section. - CaptainEek Sorry about that name misplacement! I agree that the tone is disinterested, but the current section is not factual. Let me start by just pointing out that User:MC Alyssa, who works for MasterClass, has added much of this content, and when you review user's history in the Talk page for MasterClass, user's requests read as native advertising or otherwise promotional language (editors have pointed this out and made appropriate edits). So, already, the factuality of that user's claims should be suspect, not only the tone. But to the point, the current section reads: "MasterClass was founded by David Rogier while a student at Stanford University, originally under the name "Yanka Industries". Rogier, who continues to serve as chief executive officer (CEO),[7] asked Aaron Rasmussen to join the company as a co-founder and chief technology officer." This origin story is flatly contradicted by Aaron Rasmussen's claim in the Inc. article he wrote (article linked above in previous comment): "In 2010, I sketched out a documentary series that was ultimately my inspiration for MasterClass. I wrote a list of possible instructors, and in looking back on that list, I see Annie Leibovitz, Hans Zimmer, and James Cameron, all instructors who now have their own MasterClass." In brief, the origin of MasterClass is contested. In the Inc. article, written by Rasmussen, Aaron claims that the first seeds of MasterClass began with him in 2010, not with Rogier at Stanford. The History Section of MasterClass should, at least, reflect this, otherwise that section would not be neutral between the cofounders. To add to that, the three cited articles that support the current version are all articles written by third parties, whereas the claim about the origin that I cite is in an article written by one of the cofounders themselves. Hi, although I know you can't speak for the Committee, I thought you nonetheless might be able to help. This started because I noticed this thread at ANI. I went to the Talk page and saw that Doug Weller had recently posted a DS notice on the Talk page. According to the case, "Standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all pages related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, broadly construed." As I interpret that statement, that would indeed cover all articles, including ones about movies, actors, songs, and so on. - I always appreciate when talk page stalkers can make short work of a question :) But yes, at the moment the IPA sanctions are on everything. Even if it were just limited to politics, I think The Kashmir files would fit the bill. It looks like state-endorsed propaganda, the very sort of controversial item that DS is designed for. Bish has a good point, which is that Afghanistan is no longer such a hot button item. I think a well focused ARCA requesting removal of Afghanistan from the IPA DS could work, pointing to the comments of the latest discussion. Why it didn't happen in the last discussion? I think we got a bit tunnel visioned on the particular wording and issue, and just forgot to follow up. There's a lot happening in the world right now, I admit to being a bit distracted myself... I checked a few Donald footnotes at random, and, as I expected, they're the same in the hardback edition (although all the information in the sentence accompanying fn2 is on p. 22). Even if the pages didn't line up, it's not important enough to have two versions in all the footnotes. WikiCup 2022 May newsletter
The second round of the 2022 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 115 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top seven contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 11 featured articles and the 79 good articles achieved in total by contestants.
Our top scorers in round 2 were:
- Epicgenius, with 1264 points from 2 featured article, 4 good articles and 18 DYKs. Epicgenius was a finalist last year but has now withdrawn from the contest as he pursues a new career path.
- AryKun, with 1172 points from two featured articles, one good article and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews.

I was going through the archives a little while ago and noticed a remark of yours that Planck units might be brought to GA one day. What do you think of it now? I've been trying to brush the cobwebs out (this website was actually a book chapter, that citation was to a TV documentary for some reason I can't fathom...). I doubt I'll have the time to shepherd it through any formal stamp-of-approval process, but I probably have it in me to make the odd fix here or there. XOR'easter (talk) 01:24, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
- @XOR'easter I'm probably not the best person to ask. I find physics fascinating, and am pretty good at the theoretical stuff, but man am I bad at the math. I got all the way through Vector Calc in college and decided "nah I won't do this any more". Those upper level physics concepts tend to be very heavy on the advanced mathematics, which limits my overall usefulness in physics articles. A bit ironic considering I was a math teacher...
- My thoughts about the GA was that I felt Planck length was itself not a good candidate for being taken to GA, and thus energy should be focused on Planck unit. I have a theory that I've yet to fully put in words, but is along the lines of: "Not all articles can reach GA, which is a function of the number and quality of RS that exist about the topic." That is usually a sign that a merge or deletion is in order. A problem I came across with Planck length is that...nobody seems to know, agree, or understand what it really means. There is a lot of misinformation out there too, along the lines that it is the shortest possible distance. I am glad to see that it got merged, since that makes the most sense to me. - The perspective of someone who got through the end of vector calculus is definitely a valuable perspective to have on articles that are read by undergraduates, or even more widely than that. My own impression over the years has been that a lot of our physics and mathematics articles were built up from the disorganized accretion of small pieces, generally without an overall plan or an understanding of how difficult it is to explain these things to people who don't already know them. The challenge is compounded by the difficulty of writing articles that have to serve multiple audiences at once. For matters Planckian, Anthony Zee's Fly by Night Physics (Princeton University Press, 2020) has a pretty good introduction, aimed at students who've had a couple years of college physics. - @Katiejill127 The general requirement on Wikipedia is that every statement, except those that fall under WP:BLUESKY, need citation. Leads, being just summaries of the body, do not need citations. I would say you could remove the tag on that article since you've done a great job improving it. - OK, thanks so much. I will go ahead and remove the tag (or at least try to!). I would love to cite each sentence and meet the GA and FA standard. 90% of the article I can easily do this. There is a section where I explore the formula components and try to explain the conservation of momentum and equilibrium of forces largely in my own words, because it can be hard to understand and I don't want the article to be prohibitively technical. I will take another look and see if I can cite these sentences in some way even though they came from my brain and notes, I can possibly cite a lecture from a graduate-level engineering course. - @Sm8900 I'm not so sure you really need a mentor. You have been on-Wiki almost twice as long as I have, and have 30,000 more edits than I do. I think the reason you've been in troubled waters before is that you focused too much on the "meta" or "back-end" of Wikipedia, and not enough on the front-end content. Changing or reforming Wikipedia takes a deft hand, and a firm understanding of Wiki-politics, something that even I have failed at before. But as long as you're focusing on content, I don't think you'll run into any problems. - Uploading a picture is a somewhat complicated procedure. The general secret is: upload it to https://commons.wikimedia.org/ and then you can use it on Wiki. Any photo you upload must be your own! I.e., you took that photo with your own hands. Uploading other photos is a dreadfully complex morass of copyright troubles, so I would advise against that unless you really need to upload said photo and know what you're doing. Guideline and policy news
- Following an RfC, a change has been made to the administrators inactivity policy. Under the new policy, if an administrator has not made at least 100 edits over a period of 5 years they may be desysopped for inactivity.
- Following a discussion on the bureaucrat's noticeboard, a change has been made to the bureaucrats inactivity policy.
Technical news
- The ability to undelete the associated talk page when undeleting a page has been added. This was the 11th wish of the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey.
- A public status system for WMF wikis has been created. It is located at https://www.wikimediastatus.net/ and is hosted separately to WMF wikis so in the case of an outage it will remain viewable.
Arbitration
- Remedy 2 of the St Christopher case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to place a ban on single-purpose accounts who were disruptively editing on the article St Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine or related pages from those pages.

- @SeeShade Yes, though the process is a bit tricky. You see, album covers are copyrighted, so when we use them on wikipedia its under WP:FAIRUSE. New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
Hello CaptainEek,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 819 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 859 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

Guideline and policy news
- Several areas of improvement collated from community member votes have been identified in the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement guidelines. The areas of improvement have been sent back for review and you are invited to provide input on these areas.
Technical news
- Administrators using the mobile web interface can now access Special:Block directly from user pages. (T307341)
- The IP Info feature has been deployed to all wikis as a Beta Feature. Any autoconfirmed user may enable the feature using the "IP info" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features. Autoconfirmed users will be able to access basic information about an IP address that includes the country and connection method. Those with advanced privileges (admin, bureaucrat, checkuser) will have access to extra information that includes the Internet Service Provider and more specific location.
Arbitration
- Remedy 2 of the Rachel Marsden case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to delete or reduce to a stub, together with their talk pages, articles related to Rachel Marsden when they violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy.
- An arbitration case regarding WikiProject Tropical Cyclones has been closed.

First, it was a copyright violation because you just copy and pasted the content in, which meant I had to delete it (copyright violations can get us sued!). New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022
Hello CaptainEek,
- Backlog status
At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.
Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]
In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).
While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

- TIP – New school articles
Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

NPP & AfC
The main issues that need support at NPP are:
- Getting the 90-Day NO INDEX changed to indefinite
- Encouraging reviewers to be more bold over using Draftification, and not worry about any backlogs it creates at AfC.
- Encouraging reviewers to use the tutorial instead of posting questions for help on every small detail of reviewing they can’t get their heads around. Most of it is stuff they should have been intelligent enough to learn before they applied for the right.
- Encouraging admins at PERM to accord the NPP right on a probationary basis first for all applicants who qualify.
- Getting inactive reviewers and hat-collectors removed so that we know exactly how many reviewers there are.
- Watching why some features of the new pages feed and the curation toolbar are no longer working as they should. I co-developed these years ago with the WMF after a long struggle for them and lots of meetings with the Vice CEO and senior devs, and it saddens me to see them not being maintained. These are quite a few things that urgently need to be done, but as long as nobody from NPP is prepared to coordinate it, nothing much will happen. Nevertheless, IMO they are issues to decided locally by the NPP/AfC volunteers directly and not by Arbcom members and/or users who have no practical experience in those areas. A pragmatic approach is what is now needed and not some antiquated Wikipedia ideology or Arbcom power-thrusting. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 08:27, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
- User:Kudpung I started typing a reply yesterday and got distracted. The short of it is, I quite agree that NPP and AfC need reform, and that ArbCom is not the one to do it. I've talked and worked with various folks on reform in the past and would like to take that on as a project at some point, though a lot of work has taken precedent in the meantime. WikiCup 2022 July newsletter
The third round of the 2022 WikiCup has now come to an end. Each of the sixteen contestants who made it into the fourth round had at least 180 points, which is a lower figure than last year when 294 points were needed to progress to round 4. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
BennyOnTheLoose, with 746 points, a tally built both on snooker and other sports topics, and on more general subjects.- Bloom6132, with 683 points, garnered mostly from "In the news" items and related DYKs.
Sammi Brie, with 527, from a variety of submissions related to radio and television stations.
Between them contestants achieved 5 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 51 good articles, 149 DYK entries, 68 ITN entries, and 109 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. - The Supermind Well for starters your title was ungrammatical. Second, this allows the article to cover backsliding should Ahmed leave power. I am an independent German journalist and it took considerable efforts to write this article. The CAI is a non-commercial association creating an open standard. The topic is complex and not easy to explain. Two thirds of the article cover an explanation of the way the standard works. So: Where did you discover advertising content? - @Robertseetzen Hi Robert. Thanks for working on this article. Don't let the tagging doesn't reflect on you, its hard to learn the ropes of Wikipedia, and you chose a bit of a tricky first topic. We're always suspicious of articles about organizations and want them written as neutrally as possible. To that end, I recommend a few fixes. First, don't use external links in the body. Its against our manual of style, and makes me think that the goal of the article is to drive web traffic to the site. Second, everything should be cited. If I see uncited content, it makes me think that its original research, which makes me wonder if the author is associated with the topic. Third, you have a lot of unsubstantiated essay-like claims. Such as
Simply put, the CAI standard enables a person to make sound decisions about what content to trust. Without reliable, cryptographically secured statements about the origin of a file, such decisions are also possible and even commonplace, but they are then often made without a robust foundation.
It looks like this sentence is trying to promote the CAI, instead of just explaining what it is in a neutral fashion. - I have no idea how to continue work on the article. The topic is rather new. There is almost zero independent content available. One reason might be that the topic is complex. I understand Wikipedia as a place to offer support in understanding complicated topics. In addition, I understand Wikipedia as a platform to offer information on relevant topics. I believe that an association working on an open, freely available standard for tools helping against disinformation is relevant. Even more so if that association has the potential (due to its potent members) to implement or at least propagate that standard on a global level. As a person involved in Wikipedia administration and (as I believe) being confronted with disinformation on a daily basis, you might agree. In addition, you might understand that I'm not motivated to do further work on the article with that advert tag present or looming.
- I understand the necessities of scientific working. But without many external sources available, the article can almost only refer to the standard documents and statements of the CAI and C2PA themselves. Which should be, at least regarding the standard docs, enough in itself. Because this is the most reliable information that will ever be available when the inner workings of the standard are discussed. I'd be happy to add references to any critical discussion of the standard and its potential impact. But, until now, even well-known sources with good reputation didn't do much more than rewrite press statements. So, if you would like to see this article evolve and an article I planned for the C2PA to happen in the first place, please offer you opinion on how this might work with that little sources available. Regarding Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Clarification and Amendment/Archive 121#Amendment request: Motion: Crouch, Swale (January 2022) you stated that I should start a new RFC in a better location but Wikipedia talk:WikiProject England/Parishes RfC seems though not well participated to have reached a reasonable consensus namely:
- There was a consensus against bot/insignificant content creation, that is to say the articles needed to be of good quality and contain significant content
- There was a consensus that if the parish has the same name as a settlement the parish should be dealt with in the settlement article. This is standard for other 4th order units elsewhere in the world.
- Several editors stated to have a moratorium on parish RFCs so I see little benefit in starting another one.
The requirement that I can only appeal the restrictions is far far far to infrequent, even if we were only allow 1 appeal every 6 months or year it would be far more appropriate if the number of articles (such as parishes only) could be reviewed more like ever 2 weeks or so (at least in the beginning) probably by an arbitrator or other admin. I we started at say 1 parish a week (in addition to my 1 article a month on anything) and gradually increase the number of parishes ever few weeks I could gradually get the remaining ones missing with little risk of problems.
You also opposed to going from 1 article a week through AFC to 1 article a month without AFC due to the new restriction allowing me to create less content, if you felt this why didn't you instead suggest a motion of allowing me to create 1 article a week without AFC? As Primefac said "While I think it would most definitely benefit Crouch, Swale when they make their inevitable appeal next year to have an actual, well-attended and clear RFC that states whether what they are doing is acceptable to the community or not, I cannot deny that they have held to their restriction and have been doing a good job of writing reasonable articles. - @Crouch, Swale My issue is that the frequency is somewhat arbitrary, when the real issue is there seems to be no consensus on the notability of parishes. Your stated goal is still to create an article for every parish, which is what got you in trouble in the first place. Until there is some discussion that determines that say a certain group of parishes is notable, I think it is best that your submissions be reviewed. Otherwise, I suggest you carefully re-read what I wrote at the ARCA. I have just re-read it, I stand by it, and could not have put it more eloquently. - Are you talking about the frequency of the reviewing or the frequency in the sense of the number of parishes I can create?
- Regarding notability and previous problems there isn't such an issue with notability per WP:GEOLAND and the previous disagreements were over hamlets, suburbs and individual buildings, as far as I'm aware there wasn't any disagreements over parishes.
- Would something like:
- Crouch, Swale can create (to start with) 2 articles on current civil parishes a week, the articles must be in accordance with the previous consensus namely (1) the articles must contain a reasonable amount of content (such as at least 5 sentences), (2) must be on current civil parishes and (3) must follow the rule agreed that if a parish has the same name as a settlement it doesn't get a separate article unless all or almost all of the settlement is outside the parish.
- The number of articles he can create a week is to be reviewed every 2 weeks (by an involved or uninvolved administrator) to see if it can be increased.
- The number of articles he can create per week can be reduced anytime by any admin, involved or not.
- If he creates unsuitable articles they can be moved to draftspace/his userspace (or another suitable location) an he is not permitted to move them back without permission from the mover or an admin or create a new article on that topic.
- This restriction runs concurrently with his 1 article a month on any topic and he can appeal his overall restrictions as normal at ARCA.
Would this work? What is the likelihood of problems and wouldn't point 3 be enough to deal with that. Could you please consider this? If every 2 weeks is too frequent or not frequent enough it could be a different time, though reviewing would likely be nothing more than checking some or all of the articles for problems and checking my talk page. At least as far as I'm concerned, my preferred course of action is for you to prove that you understand what notability means, that you have had an RfC about the notability of parishes, and then simply ask for your restriction to be lifted altogether. Almost everywhere else in the world as far as I can see has coverage on their lowest level units so why should that be any different for the ~3.6% of parishes in England? Parishes just like other administrative units are inherently notable so there is no need to start a RFC about if ~3.6% of parishes in England should be treated differently to most other places in the world.
