"Please stop"? A number of encyclopedias use this word, so that claim just sounds ridiculous--why on earth would that word be unencyclopedic? Also, the lead in The Beatles (album) uses it, so I'm wondering why my minor change in the body is being scrutinized and reverted by you and Ian Rose. Dan56 (talk) 19:20, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

You looked to be getting into an edit war. I'm not sure, but I believe somebody picked up on it during a GA or FA review once. Perhaps Ian Rose could explain his reason.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:50, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

It is not one of the words to watch. Seems weird to try to argue that it is not suitable for encyclopedic usage. No better or worse than "however" or "furthermore" etc.·maunus · snunɐɯ· 19:57, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
Furthermore might have been the one which somebody said to avoid actually, maybe I'm getting my wires crossed. Tim riley or Brianboulton might a better idea.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:01, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
Even if they did, that is the kind of nonsense that I am not likely to quietly put up with. Like the tosser who removes "comprised of" just because he doesnt like it.·maunus · snunɐɯ· 20:05, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
Well, nobody asked for your opinion Maunus. Ian Rose is one of the featured articles delegates here and obviously saw something he disagreed with.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:08, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
Uh, I didn't even know I'd changed that article. I must've been aiming to revert some other change on my watchlist and hit that by mistake. I mean I tend to agree with DrB that "nonetheless" (like "however") is a word to avoid if possible, but I don't just remove it on sight. My apologies for the finger trouble and for not even noticing I'd done it... :-P Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 11:14, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. Well, it looked like an edit war was about to get underway which I wanted to avoid! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:16, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
I think there are two different points in the above thread. "Comprised of" is a misguided usage: "consisted of" would do perfectly, leaving "comprised" to mean what most educated users agree it means. The point of language is to get something from one mind into another's, and it is foolish to for doctrinaire reasons erect barriers that make your audience wrongly suppose you semi-literate, however valid your linguistic reasoning. A wise writer tries to avoid splitting an infinitive (as above) or using a double pluperfect, for the same reason, even though the supposed "rule" is idiotic. "However", however, should be used with caution. Nine times out of ten it weakens the prose and can beneficially be dispensed with. No such reservations need be entertained about furthermores or moreovers or nonethelesses, unless they are used in an WP:EDITORIAL way. They are usually the right word in the right place, in my experience. Tim riley talk 18:14, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
You are very wrong in your apparent belief in what "most educated users agree". There is nothing wise in avoiding to split an infinitive or in slavishly following any other style rule that some nitwit in the 19th century thought would make English more akin to the perfection of Latin. Rather there wisdom in intentionally violating absurd rules that serve no linguistic purpose, in order to make them eventually drop into the dark ages of grammar snobbishness where they belong. ·maunus · snunɐɯ· 18:30, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
Calm head Maunus, I'm not sure what's got you so worked up here. Respectfully disagree and move on.. How are you getting on with Irataba? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:33, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
I am pretty sure I am done. I'll give it one more look tonight to see if there is anything else that needs fixing up.·maunus · snunɐɯ· 18:44, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Red carpet dresses

edit

Hey - have you noticed what's going on with Valoem's recent "undo all the redirects and recreate individual articles" for Oscar dresses jag? Weird to say the least - particularly as they are reinstating pages that are covered in more detail on the general Red Carpet Fashion pages, and even undeleted one page which was pretty much comprehensively deleted at AFD - and have made negligible effort to improve it. Seems really peculiar behaviour from a long-established editor, particularly as we had agreed that some of the articles were best merged into the main red carpet articles. Just seems odd especially as they have made barely any effort to improve or expand the articles. Any thoughts? Mabalu (talk) 02:23, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Yeah Mabalu, I think he's just enthusiastic towards the notion of having such articles. The content belongs on here somewhere but for the lesser notable dresses as you say it's best to merge into a Red Carpet Fashion in xx. I must say though that I'm a little disappointed that more of those articles haven't been created! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:40, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Jacobo Arbenz Guzmán.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. What do you mean by this "If that's one of the best films in Indian cinema heaven help Indian cinema"? Have you seen the film? You didn't like it?—Prashant 14:36, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

I've seen it yup, and thought it ridiculous that a film with a gritty plotline still had the songs and dances in it. Otherwise it could have been pretty good. I'm not saying it was bad, but it really spoiled what could have been a proper action thriller. That film badly needed the dark atmosphere and violence to be effective, but the song and dance really killed it for me. I also found Shahid Kapoor highly unbelievable in the role, too pretty and innocent looking. I honestly don't know why people rave about it so highly. If they'd have cut out the song and dances and replaced Shahid with Sanjay Dutt or Salman Khan it might have been quite good, but one of the greatest Indian films ever made?? Can't see it... You know what? I'd love to get on a plane with Guy Ritchie, Jason Statham and Vinnie Jones (and maybe Chuck Norris LOL), and make a proper badass Indian action thriller featuring the Mumbai underworld with Sanjay Dutt in the lead role. None of the nonsense, just a gritty action thriller that looks like the genuine article. I will give it a read and comment on the article tomorrow anyway!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:37, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Well, everyone's opinion differ from each other. I really liked the film when I saw it in 2009, there was something new about it (the characters, their madness and the Pulp Fiction-Reservoir Dogs-Apocalypse Now feel). Many critics ranks it very high. I think, since you have seen a lot of greatest films of world cinema, you liked it less. In comparison, I have just started watching films from world cinema.—Prashant 17:48, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
I preferred Aanken, I'm sure many will disagree with me. "Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave it 2 out of 5 stars." That's probably a good thing, he's a joke critic!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:48, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I have heard he is paid for writing reviews. He has given 4.5 stars to some of the worst movies of all time. Especially of Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan. Phew.—Prashant 03:36, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

I really like Kaminey. I like the uninhibited goofiness and dry humour in it. I don't necessarily think of it as a gritty crime film, but as an oddball comedy-drama. It probably would appeal to us Hindi film lovers because Bhardwaj takes the age-old cliches of our films (such as hysterical knocked-up women, twin brothers, bumbling supporting actors embodying regional stereotypes etc.) and turns each of them into something quirky. I can understand why western audiences won't take to it as much as us, but given Bollywood's struggle with mixing craft and commerce for decades now, this is probably as close as it gets to clicking with both the Indian masses and the classes. Song and dance routines, sadly, tend to play a huge role in drawing in those large crowds. I, however, do agree with Blof that Kapoor is too pretty and cute to pull-off the gangster part, but I have to admit that he was suitably goofy in the other role. Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan may have been able to pull off the gritty "look", but their acting chops are even more limited than Kapoor to do justice to the character. Chopra, on the other hand, was unnecessarily strident in her scenes, something she largely tends to be. Not her worst though. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 05:39, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

I agree with you Krimuk but, Chopra was strident? No way. Her character was written that way. She played really well, considering an eight scene role. She cannot say those yelling dialouges in the Pakeezah tone, Toh (break) kya (break) maine (break) rape (break) kiya (break) tumharaa (break). Doesn't make any sense.—Prashant 06:26, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
If a good actress had played the part then the same character would have seemed more believable. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 06:34, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
It's no surprise that someone doesn't even think her of a good actress. LOL. Look who is saying. Have you ever liked any of her performance?—Prashant 07:02, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
No surprise. Just the truth. Hysterical overacting doesn't make one a good actress. Having said that, she was very good in Fashion, 7 Khoon Maaf, and even in the awful Mary Kom (she was the only good thing in it). When she tries enough, she can do very well. Sadly, she hardly exploits her potential. On the other hand, her cousin Parineeti is a naturally talented actress, but seems like her career is not going anywhere now. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 07:07, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
And, Aitraaz and Barfi!? Well, her glamorous image (in your mind) is responsible for this and not her versatility.—Prashant 07:22, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Aitraaz well, yeah. She's a great seductress, but Abbas-Mustan don't really write interesting characters, do they? Barfi!, yes, to a certain extent. I will praise the effort and the risk, but not the holistic outcome. Not a bad performance at all, but not very subtle either. And no, glamour has nothing to do with. I am not an imbecile to let someone's media image cloud my judgement. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 08:06, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
I think you should watch her performance in Yakeen, it is one of her better performances. Though, the film itself is too stupid to be called a thriller. Even What's Your Raashee?. The main problem is her poor choices of films. No one will choose Zanjeer, Krrish 3 and Gunday over a Queen or Teri Meri Kahaani over a Cocktail. And, the film she chooses turns out to be a letdown by idiot directors, who don't even know how to make a decent film. Remember a bad film can dilute even an outstanding performance and a great film can make a decent performance look Outstanding. Her another problem is her temptation towards "Challenging roles/multiple roles", which always backfires. Hello, Dr. Blofeld. It has been a while. I have expanded this article for GAN and I was hoping you could review it once the copyedit is done. I had reqeusted Onel5969, who had earlier performed the copyedit on Anbe Vaa (1966), to perform the copyedit for this film as well but he said he was taking a break from copyediting. Do you know anyone else who can give their time for the article? Thamizhan1994 (Appo Pesu) 06:45, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

I have made a copyediting requests at the requests page: Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests. I will make a notification on your talk page when the article is nominated for GAN. Thamizhan1994 (Appo Pesu) 06:32, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Server Sundaram (1964) has been copyedited by the GOCE and is nominated for GAN. Please let me know if you are interested in reviewing the film. Thank you. Thamizhan1994 (Appo Pesu) 14:21, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

I am waiting for your comments on the flc. Thank you.—Prashant 04:20, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for showing up at the flc page. But I am hurt because of this "Weak support Looks in good shape, I made some copyedits. I wish the nominator had not prompted me to review this again just 3 days after notifying me though". I did not intend to stalk. You had said you would post the other day, which you didn't. That's why I had to post again. I thought you forgot about my flc. Sorry for that, you should have said that to me and not at the flc page. Anyway, this will fail as your comment is a direct hint for the delegate.—Prashant 16:04, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
No, I doubt he'll fail it, it's not obvious direct canvassing, just irritating to be prodded just three days after alerting me to a nom. If you'd rather I'd not commented then you shouldn't have asked me.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:11, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
Well sorry for that. If you could tweak your comments, then It might be better. Also, the list is definitely a worthy candidate, but you gave a weak support. I didn't understand.—Prashant 16:30, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I wasn't convinced the prose was brilliant, that's why. I've still supported, be grateful.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:35, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
Well, thanks anyway. I hope the further improvement can change your mind to give a full support.  .—Prashant 02:52, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

Hey, not really, but I do expect to keep the article in high standard because it was our first achievement for a bio about an actor. I still do like her and don't think her career died as much as she deliberately ended it. She has other commitments now like the IPL and stuff. Haven't yet seen Queen. ShahidTalk2me 12:51, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

@Shshshsh: I agree with you. PZ has done some of the best performances in the previous decade. Some of her films are historical such as Dil Se, Veer-Zaara, Kal Ho Na Ho and Dil Chahta Hai. My other favorite performances of her are Kya Kehna and Dil Hai Tumhaara, where she stole the show. Plus, she is a fearless, outspoken and honest.—Prashant 14:23, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

Emereo

edit

Hi Dr. B., just a heads-up that you should avoid using stuff from Emereo Publishing. You've recently cited a book by them where this appears and even the font and layout looks familiar. I removed it - didn't even bother checking the article history because somewhere down the line, even if not from the specific article, it'll come from WP. RSN had a thread about it recently, although I didn't see that until I'd already got rid of maybe 40 refs across as many articles. - Sitush (talk) 22:53, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, wasn't aware about Emereo, I knew of Mobile Reference though. I didn't actually notice the refs, and if I'd scrolled back a few pages the infobox would have been a dead give away!♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:25, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

I'll leave you to deal with the latest blow-up, as you have been doing. I'm not in the mood right now to discuss with "fragile" people (not the best choice of word, perhaps, but can't think of another at the moment) and will likely unintentionally piss them off. - Sitush (talk) 18:58, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

Yes, the "Hollywoodization/Bollywoodization" of stars doesn't always mean an improvement though, look at Catherine Zeta Jones and Renee Zellweger for instance! Angelina Jolie used to be hot, now looks like a skeleton with a shiny plastic face! Even Eva Longoria has been looking strange and plastic of late, and I used to think of her as one of the more laidback, natural Hollywood actresses! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:51, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

hi, i try to add language version to Yümai (zh: 玉麦乡 (隆子县)) and Sangngagqoiling zh:三安曲林乡), but there is some error and i have no idea. could you help please. thanks Andelicek.andy (talk) 06:03, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

@Andelicek.andy: Do you mean inter wiki links or adding the Chinese/Pinyin after the names?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:24, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

I mean - when you open english wiki with Yümai, on left pannel you see language versions only with Bahasa and some Arabic languages, but both pages (Yümai , Sangngagqoiling) does exists also in chinese languages (https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%8E%89%E9%BA%A6%E4%B9%A1_(%E9%9A%86%E5%AD%90%E5%8E%BF), (https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E4%B8%89%E5%AE%89%E6%9B%B2%E6%9E%97%E4%B9%A1). When i try "Edit links" it says these two pages /en Yumai and zh Yumai/ are already connected. but when you open chinese Yumai, there is NO another language version..... (for Sangngagqoiling same). try "Edit links" on Yumai and put "zh" and "玉麦乡 (隆子县)" and you will see. thanks. thanks for barn star....even i dont know what "barn" means :D :D it takes ages to find correct original names for villages :D Andelicek.andy (talk) 04:58, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
Sam problem with Gurum (zh: 古荣乡 (https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%8F%A4%E8%8D%A3%E4%B9%A1). I'm not good in inter wiki links system. Thanks for help.

@Charles Matthews:, can you take a look at this? I just tried to add the Chinese interlink and it wouldn't work. That's the downside to Wikidata :-(♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:13, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. I continue completing the list. Should I continue list errors here or to Charles Matthews?
one more: Nyêmo Town should go to zh: zh:尼木乡 (尼木县) (https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%B0%BC%E6%9C%A8%E4%B9%A1_(%E5%B0%BC%E6%9C%A8%E5%8E%BF)), but it goes to zh: zh:塔荣镇 (https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%A1%94%E8%8D%A3%E9%95%87), which is actually Tarrong. If try on Tarrong add zh:塔荣镇 (https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%A1%94%E8%8D%A3%E9%95%87), cannoct connect, because page already links uncorrectly with Nyêmo Town. Thanks.

You'd be better off asking Charles on his talk page to look into this, or ask him to ask somebody on wikidata to sort out all of the Tibetan township Chinese wiki interlinks. For some reason I can't edit it either.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:47, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

A lot of people know the truth, but when you bring up politics and ethnic conflict on wikipedia people will usually assume you're WP:POV pusher and here to trash the PRC. Such people usually get blocked, so I hope you leave your personal grievances out of wiki and just help with these lists!♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:57, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

I created most of the village stubs years ago but they're a mess. I'd probably vote to delete most of them stubs and begin working through the township/town lists with a population/area source.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:59, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi Doc. There have been some recent edits in the article and, whenever you have the time, I would appreciate it if you checked them over. I am on vacation so my editing time is not much but I will check in from time to time. Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Carl Nielsen you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria.   This process may take up to 7 days. Moldovan architects

edit

The Intertranswiki listing of Moldovan architects is probably a result of a mistranslation from the Russian Moldavia which is not the same as Moldova. I do not think Sergei Ginger can be called Moldovan, even if he was born in Chisinau, as Moldova only gained its independence in 1991 and he died in 1937. The Russian article lists him as having first the citizenship of the Russian Empire and then USSR. I think there will be similar problems with the other names in the list which appears to be based on ru:Категория:Архитекторы Молдавии. See also the explanations under Rosalia Spirer on my talk page. I have provisionally added a warning on Intertranswiki.--Ipigott (talk) 07:02, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Moldavian Soviet then Ipigott?. All I know is the Russian equivalent category of Category:Moldovan architects listed all of these in it. I guess we could create Category:Moldavian Soviet architects and feed into both Moldova and Russia if this is a touchy area?♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:38, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

It's a translation problem. The Russians also have words for Moldavian and Moldovan but Google translated Moldavian as Moldovan. I'm working on the problem at WikiProject Moldova. Let's wait a day or two for responses.--Ipigott (talk) 13:43, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
I'm on good terms with Dahn and Biruitorul from the old days on here. They'd be most welcome to join and help organize Moldova topics for WP:Intertranswiki stub drive. I acknowledge that Romanian wiki isn't material generally is poor, but the idea is to identify missing topics and start them, and if the content is unsourced to look externally and support it. My intention here was really Moldovan people, perhaps journalists or whatever at a later date would be a good one to target. Moldovan biography strikes me as poorly covered on here.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:48, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
I think we can continue to use the Moldovan categories. See my talk page.--Ipigott (talk) 14:25, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Carl Nielsen

The article Carl Nielsen you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:Carl Nielsen for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Tim riley -- Tim riley (talk) 14:21, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for all you help on this. Glad we made it in time. Can you take care of scheduling the DYK?--
Sure I'll do it now, the 9th of June right?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:25, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

I'm making some headway on this article now; hopefully it'll be ready for GA after another session or two - mainly just sorting all the stuff I've tagged [citation needed] and copyediting from top to bottom. Anyway, you know about non-free images, and this article could really do with a few - File:Graham Chapman Colonel.jpg is an obvious one, so is File:Chapman as Brian.jpg there's also File:John Clesse and Graham Chapman.jpg but that looks like a copyvio that nobody's noticed. I don't suppose you could be a dear and sort out some FUR for his article if you've got a mo? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:37, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Wow that's great stuff Ritchie, I didn't realise anybody responded to my note about it aside from Cassianto saying that he didn't like Monty Python. We hope might be better to take care of that than myself though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:40, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

OK-the Clease & Chapman file is at FFD--no way the uploader has the copyright to it. A couple of questions because we all know how excited some people get when a non-free file is used in more than 1 article. Both of the remaining ones are currently in articles; the Colonel one is now used in 4, when you count the Chapman article. Any chance of reducing the number of times this one has been used so all those who worry about this sort of thing might sleep soundly? :-) We hope (talk) 17:36, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
Well I've done the FUR for The Colonel and just done it for Chapman's own article. In both cases, sources and biographies assume you already know what the Colonel looks like, which is (IMHO) a great excuse for a FUR. I've nuked the other two. We need to stop this - it's silly! Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 19:24, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
Agree with you-when you think about it, technically we have less non-free image content by re-using non-free files which are already uploaded than if someone has to upload a new non-free file for each article. A while back, we lost a non-free photo because it was termed "not necessary". The action was an SD on a file that had been here some years and one article it was used in had just gone to GAN; the admin is still kicking around here somewhere. :-/ We hope (talk) 20:09, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

So sad, we've lost B.B, one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century and one of the most influential guitars ever.. Ask any good guitarist and he'll tell you that the big man is a massive influence in the tone and delivery of their blues soloing. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:12, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

The thrill is really gone. :-/ We hope (talk) 17:36, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
Definitely, what a loss. Only really good source I have is The Guitar Handbook which proclaims him as a vitally important influence on guitarists everywhere. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 19:39, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
When I play the blues and solo, he's the guy I most try to emulate, Stevie Ray close behind too of course, but BB for blues to me is as Joe Pass is to jazz and Jimi Hendrix is to rock, speaking as a guitarist. And one of those very rare people who when you watched you knew he was one of those living legends people in future centuries will be saying they wished they'd been alive at the time to see him.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:50, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
And those of us who could have but never did will regret it for a long time. Was still a teen when I was able to go to a 50s Rock and Roll show featuring Chuck Berry; the memory of that is great! We hope (talk) 20:13, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
I'm sure, I bet that was cool!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:16, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Article suggestion?

edit

Hi Dr. Blofeld, I just approved Mónica Villa through AFC and started cleaning it up. She's definitely notable but the article is a bit of a mess. All the best references are in further reading rather than references, and the references that do exist often don't verify the text. I know you have worked on Argentine cinema before so thought it might be of interest to you or someone you know? Calliopejen1 (talk) 18:03, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

SusunW might be interested in looking at that. I do intend doing some more stubbing work in the near future though on Argentine films.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:26, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do with it. May take me a few days. SusunW (talk) 18:28, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
I have read through a great majority of the sources and concur that she is notable AND that the article is a mess. I am going to copy it into my sandbox and try to rework it. Most of the sourcing does not tie to what is written in the body at all, so I may have to lose quite a bit of it. A lot of the sources are circular, either back to a Wiki or back to her, thus are unusable. SusunW (talk) 20:51, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
If I came across that article admittedly I'd nuke it to a stub and rebuild it. You could restart it in your sandbox SusunW using some of the material stage by stage and exclude the crap, that would probably be easiest (and cleanest).♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:55, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
Exactly my thoughts. I tried to work through just one section and cannot even get one section to tie to sources. So, am in the process of gutting it now. SusunW (talk) 20:58, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Are you interested in adopting an unfinished article?

edit

Hello Dr. Blofeld, it's been a while since I've edited actively, but a few of my partially unfinished articles have been bothering me a lot recently. I've got three major articles that really bother me because I could publish them now if I wanted to, but I don't because they're incomplete. I'll have to work on User:Ryan Vesey/Jassini since it requires access to a book I own. Further, I can't ask anyone to help with User:Ryan Vesey/Temp until I finish the table of mine fatalities. The one that I'd be interested on help with is User:Ryan Vesey/Xerotine siccative. I left some notes on WikiProject talk pages, but I've worked with you in the past and know that you have a broad range of interests, so I thought that I'd drop by and see if you'd be interested in taking the project up. I'm preparing for graduation and will be traveling for a few days afterwards, but if you're interested in working on it, I'll be able to start making improvements to the page again next week. Ryan Vesey 20:41, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

You could, however, put him in the picture and ask him if he'd be prepared to put in a holding nom for 9 June – maybe one of my non-date-related FAs – which can then be painlessly dumped if Nielsen comes through in time. There may be problems with dumping, otherwise. Brianboulton (talk) 22:50, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Brianboulton but I have a feeling that Nielsen won't make it anyway, mainly because of the reliance on web sources and lack of coverage of his songs. I'd thought it in good overall shape though. But we can let it run a bit and see if anything better comes of it and keep that date in mind should a miracle happen!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:15, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
I would follow Brian's suggestion. Better safe than sorry, and it would not cause a problem if CN is not promoted. --Mirokado (talk) 12:49, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
I think there's nothing wrong in improving as much as we can, - TFA or not. To schedule something for the 9th that can easily also appear later is a god idea. How about "On this day", in case TFA doesn't work? Never worked that area, have no idea how far in advance they plan and what the criteria are. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:02, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
You were the primary reason I decided to go for FA, the TFA on Nielsen Gerda, I was going to settle for a mere DYK :-). I'm rather dubious this is going to pass, when I'm researching on article personally I prefer to use books to form the bulk of the research, not vice versa, but as Ipigott said, a lot of the decent material is online. Still, you never know what can happen in the time being, sometimes people can get together and really help something, other times they're against it. It would be very nice to have it as TFA on the 150th anniversary.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:07, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

I'm trying to work at the Royal Museum at present. You may want to switch the lead photo to one of these. At the page bottom is the photographer's information-Lindstrøm, Georg fotograf 1866-1923. Lindstrom died in 1923, so death +70 would work here.We hope (talk) 19:50, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks WH. @Ipigott: which one do you want? I think a crop of the third one would look best.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:56, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
This looks like the lead photo but rotated; the RM has no information about who took the photo or when. We hope (talk) 19:58, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Looks even more like Kevin Keegan in that one!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:59, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
I must say I'm not thrilled with any of these although they seem to be formally acceptable. There are also a number of photographs at the Odense Museum. The one of Nielsen playing the piano here looks quite appealing. Perhaps we could try to find out more about the origin of the image (photographer, date, etc.). I could try to make some enquiries if anyone is interested.--Ipigott (talk) 20:16, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

Carl Nielsen photographs

edit

I have found a good selection of photographs of Nielsen, with details of photographers and dates, at the Odense Museum. We hope may like to express an opinion on their suitability for the Carl Nielsen article.--Ipigott (talk) 11:20, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

I'd be grateful WH if you could upload the images which are useable and we can pick!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:34, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Doc, these are CC non-commercial-take a look at the CC license at the bottom of the page. There's the dollar sign with a slash through it. :/ But there are quite a few photos at the Royal Library-link for their Carl Nielsen photos. The ones we can use will be listed like this group of 4 of Nielsen. We need to see that the Kunstner (artist) is shown at the bottom of the page and that there's some birth and death information about the person who took the photo. For the 4 photos at the link, Gerog Lindstrom took all 4 and he died in 1923. Knowing this and being able to link to this page proves that for the death +70 years licensing. Some of the Royal Library's Nielsen pages have more than 1 Kunstner identified for the page--just make sure that any photo(s) you select from a page have proof of an identity and birth/death information. There are many photos there where there's no birth/death information on the photographer. I'll be glad to have you run them by me if you just give me a link to the page it's on there since this is where the information re: whether we can use it or not is. We hope (talk) 13:51, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Unfortunately I do not think the quality of the four images from the KB is good enough for the article. I think we should look for something substantially better. Is it not possible to use CC non-commercial (CC BY-ND) images for FA by loading them up on Wikipedia rather than on Commons? After all, we are not interested in having them used commercially. I also wonder whether the CC non-commercial status of the Odense museum images is correct. I know many Danish sites try to overprotect their images with copyright restrictions even if they are more than 50, 70 or 100 years old (these are over 100 years old) and comply with Creative Commons rules. See for example Commons Copyright Rules. Do you or We hope know anyone who could assist with this. It seems ridiculous that countless Wikipedia articles use images loaded up on Commons on the basis of age, etc., and we cannot find anything suitable for someone who died in 1931 (i.e. 84 years ago). Perhaps Elekhh can provide some advice on this?--Ipigott (talk) 15:07, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

I don't think much of their quality either, but the issues are: we need to have a verifiable photographer who has died 70 years or more before 2015 in order to use the death+70 license and that while we don't use content for commercial purposes, we need to have photos which are totally in the public domain--no questions asked--due to the WMF rule about downstream use. Users other than WP who copy our PD photos are supposed to be able to use them for any purpose they like--including commercially. We hope (talk) 15:16, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
The photographers are mentioned for the Odense Museum images. It should be fairly easy to check when they died.--Ipigott (talk) 15:20, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Then why not start researching the names? We hope (talk) 15:22, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Simply because there has been little interest in my suggestions and I didn't want to tread on your feet, We hope. Furthermore, I feel extremely inexperienced in this area as I have never before been involved in FAC. The list of requirements on the images in the article came as a complete surprise. I wish I had been warned earlier. I know a great deal about Creative Commons as I helped to initiate its use in the European Union through projects like Europeana and the national libraries but I realize it is one thing to try to provide wider access to resources and quite another to overcome the requirements on EN Wikipedia! (I say that with my tongue in my cheek and I'll see what I can do with the photographers.) But I would once again like to hear Elekhh's views on all this.--Ipigott (talk) 17:35, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
It's all very well saying "that's a nice image", but we need to be practical. Is it uploadable freely? So as less attractive some of those images WH identified might be, it looks as if one of them will have to do.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:37, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
OK, here we go. This image was taken in 1901 by Albert Christian Ludvig Max Schou, 1878-1944. See da:Albert Schou . (So he died 71 years ago and the image is now in the public domain.) Other works by him are already on Commons, e.g. File:Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen by Albert Schou jr. 01.jpg. I think this particular image is very good and could be the lead image. Any comments? Should I go further?--Ipigott (talk) 17:58, 19 May 2015 (UTC) See also "Schou, Max (1878-1944) fotograf" by searching on Europeana. Unfortunately I cannot insert the website as it uses square brackets. --Ipigott (talk) 18:20, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
We hope That one's OK? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:22, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Just be sure to include this link as it identifies the photographer and the year it was taken "Portræt af Carl Nielsen, 1907. Fotograf: Albert Schou juniors efterfølger", and a link to verify that Schou died in 1944. We hope (talk) 18:38, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Great! That's a relief.--Ipigott (talk) 19:00, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for loading up the image and adding it to the article. From the comments in the review, it seems to need a US PD tag on Commons. Do you know what is needed and how to add the tag or do you want me to make enquiries? How about the other comments on the images?--Ipigott (talk) 06:18, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

I was surprised to see that Smerus deleted all the Google links from the book references. I know how keen you have been in the past to have these links included, especially in cases where Google provides access to the book itself. I have looked at the rules at WP:ELYES and I see that WP:ELNO does indeed clearly state that links to search engines should be avoided. In my opinion this is not in the interests of the user but for now we'll have to go along with it. Maybe the matter should be raised for further discussion?--Ipigott (talk) 06:32, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

I have now added PD-1923 to the image licence on Commons. Hope this is correct. I'll now add it to the other images in the article where required.--Ipigott (talk) 06:45, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

There's a photo of Carl Nielsen and family from 1904 at the Odensee Museum site which can be used with the Danish PD 50 license {{PD-Denmark50}}. top photo at extreme right. photo link Copy from page "Familien Carl Nielsen fotograferet i dagligstuen i hjemmet på Toldbodvej, København, 1904. Fotograf: Viggo de Neergaard." Bing translate "Carl Nielsen family photographed in the living room in the home at Toldbodvej, Copenhagen, 1904. Photographer: Viggo de Neergaard." de Neergaard died in 1915 Allerede i foråret 1915 dør Viggo de Neergaard og Viggo de Neergaard died in the spring of 1915. This can go with the Danish PD-50 because de Neergaard wasn't a professional photographer. This is a "snapshot" and we're lucky in that we know who took the photo, etc. We hope (talk) 17:32, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
@We hope: I think that it would indeed be worthwhile including this photograph as it shows Nielsen together with his wife and three legitimate children. It could be substituted for the current photo of Anne Marie (which I believe you said is not PD) in the Marriage and children section. I see that if I click on the image, a much clearer enlarged version is displayed but I don't know how to save it. Can you or Dr. Blofeld help out? The photo may need a little trimming for it to be up to standard.--Ipigott (talk) 09:33, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Hello Dr. Blofeld. I am Lucky102. I decided to help you with the wikiproject you created about translating pages from other wikis into English. I admire this and I have decided to help contribute to the project. I am very excited and hope that I may be of use to the project. I speak English as well as Irish. I will have to use Google Translate for any other page, however as you probably know Google Translate does not always make sense so that is why I am currently refraining. Let me know if I am able to help you in any way. Regards Lucky102 (talk) 13:14, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Welcome aboard! Well, google translate is far from perfect, but usually you can extract some things which make sense from a good percentage of the languages. Anything translated though does have to sourced reliably though. I'll put your name down on Wikipedia:WikiProject Intertranswiki page. You're welcome to help start any of the articles red linked!♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:45, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for the welcoming. I just created a page about a village and municipality in the Czech Republic called Jeřmanice. Maybe we could have municipalities in Liberec District to help improve geography in the Czech Republic. Lucky102 (talk) 13:49, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Yes we could do that. Can you try to ensure that all the translated/started articles are sourced though? You can use google book ref maker [4]. There are a few not being transwikied and just missing, you can help with 1620s earthquakes, Vanuatu and Gloucestershire country houses.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:49, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

@Lucky102: There you go, I've put 10 up for you at Round 26. Good luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:00, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Great! Thank you. I also found a source backing up my 1543 statement which I now added to the page. Lucky102 (talk) 14:03, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Can you sort out the links to cz wiki like the others on the page?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:06, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

I have linked it to all the other languages that has a page on Jermanice. Lucky102 (talk) 14:13, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Wow, 1500 DYKs. Tremendously impressive, especially with all the anti-systemic bias work you've been doing in the process. And you've created about 2% of all the articles on the English Wikipedia! I hope you'll reach 2000 DYKs soon. --Jakob (talk) aka Jakec 14:13, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Jakec! Well, recently it seemed content creation was at an all time low and I think it's about time more people realised the extent of what is missing. Wikipedia:WikiProject Intertranswiki is not just for translating existing articles it's for missing articles in general. You're welcome to join and I can put up 10 articles on a topic like Pennsylvanian rivers, parks etc, or whatever interests you and you can help out on creating most of them.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:18, 19 May 2015 (UTC)|}

That could be interesting. I'm already working systematically on Pennsylvania streams, but PA parks, hills/mountains, or lakes would work. Just be warned that my translation skills are terrible! --Jakob (talk) aka Jakec 19:25, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

@Jakec: We also include general missing ones as well as ones for translation. So if there's ten missing Pennsylvania rivers you can add ten to the list, but best now to do it next month.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:01, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I find you to be very active in filmography project, contributing to many FAs. Thanks for your good work. While GA reviewing an article of an actor, I found that the fimography section is unsourced, and on later checking here at Wikipedia:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers#Filmography tables, I found this statement "Source -This is an optional field that is to be used when a work may be obscure or difficult to confirm." Why do I keep opening cans of worms? I started Liberation Society because I began Thomas Barnes (MP) and there was a redlink. I'd begun the Barnes article because of a redlink also but soon hit another redlinked MP in the Society article, so came up with Lawrence Heyworth (MP). That has now spawned a whole series of redlinks which, yet again, are organisations referred to in various existing articles, some of them ones that I can remember from when I studied history at university 30-odd years ago. Who needs more or less orphaned articles about obscure, local interest schools, minor athletes and comic-book characters when we've got all these national people and organisations as redlinks? - Sitush (talk) 12:04, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

Yes, it's incredible how much you find missing every time you create an article. I don't know about you but usually every article I start turns up multiple red links, often entirely red links. That's why I think stub building is so important! And it's not as if this is only on non anglo countries, as you say even a notable MP can spawn a ton of red links. For sure we've only identified a very small percentage of potential articles we could write about, which is why it's irritating when some people think we're nearing completion or don't bother to build content.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:18, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

People who think Wikipedia is even 1% complete are woefully ignorant of the task. Red-links are great for showing holes, but expanding stubs is also a critical thing which I've been working on for a long time. Though, I must admit that surprising webs of information form from improving even small subjects. Though popular culture topics are also very sparsely covered as well. I'm shocked by sheer number of missing master works and the fact that even Michaelangelo's works are stubs or lacking even articles. Milhist is "over-represented" in terms of good content to some researchers, but we all know its far from that in reality. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 05:56, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

@ChrisGualtieri:, yes, exactly, and it amazes me how much work needs doing even on notable western topics and how poorly developed some very notable US and UK articles are too. It's not just the massive amount of missing content either, even articles like Sunset Strip are unsourced! Perhaps Ritchie333 would be interested in getting that one to GA with me.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:24, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

He might be, yes. First things first will be to retrospectively source it and find a "money source" that gives a good comprehensive overview. Remember that incredibly comprehensive Camden LBC report we used for Denmark Street? That sort of thing. And yes, there's is plenty of work to do everywhere. And you all know about my ranting against all those silly little highway "GA" stubs when major genuinely notable US road topics like Sunset Strip, 42nd Street (Manhattan) or U.S. Route 66 languish towards the lower end of the quality scale. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 07:46, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Yes, I think that's because some farm track in the middle of Delaware or Iowa is easier to research and doesn't need much. But once in a while it would be good for these people to consider what might be priority for roads on wikipedia. Something like Route 66, 5th Avenue in New York, Sunset Boulevard/Strip are obviously ones which immediately come to mind when you say "American road". Sunset Strip is a core article IMO for rock and roll. I suppose I associate it most with hair metal bands of the 80s like Motley Crue but it was a centre from at least the 60s.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:56, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Indeed it was, the Whisky a Go Go was there and played host to a number of historic rock events. Gawd, don't remind me of the 80s hair-farm bands, perhaps it's because I remember the eighties that I shudder whenever somebody gives a nostalgic mention of them. You're right that some articles are easier to take to GA than others, I've done a sideline in Genesis album GAs myself recently which you can pretty much do from two sources with a side order of AllMusic. But that doesn't mean they're super-duper important articles, no how much a fan I am of them. Actually, Genesis is prone to extreme fan's POV all over the internet, usually because the stereotypical geek prefers the early Genesis of Nursery Cryme and Selling England by the Pound (um yes, that'll be me and Jeremy Clarkson), whereas their later stuff like Misunderstanding, Land of Confusion and No Son of Mine which reached a far wider audience is looked less favourably. Oh look, there I am getting nostalgic about the 80s. Bugger. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:10, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

@Ritchie333: Try this for google book urls. Also puts the author surname first which makes it easier to order in the bibliography!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:04, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

As Forrest Gump would say, "'Ah'm not a smaart man, but ah know what book citations is." Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:10, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Gonna hit the strip maaan!Dr. Blofeld 09:50, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
People still complain about the roads - some going so far as to call it vandalism! Such people put the cart before the horse, but at least you got the cart constructed! The problem is large and complex topics = drama. If you want to accomplish coverage of a broad topic, start with uncontroversial things and move towards completion - kicking things like Route 66 down the road. All it takes is one person with a bee in their bonnet and you are going to have a bad time on any topic. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 13:51, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Kicks and Route 66 go together quite well ... I'm not a fan of stubs, I must admit, which is why my article creations tend to have a bit of flesh on them. I just don't often have the time to improve them further because I get distracted by yet another fine mess somewhere else. We need more quality contributors who can take on key stub- and start-class articles and drive them up to somewhere not too far from GA - the biography of every MP/Senator/MLA, for example. Loads of people do stubs; far less do the development and probably are even capable of doing it. (This is not intended to insult stub creators). - Sitush (talk) 18:07, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

@ChrisGualtieri: Can I interest you in joining WP:Intertranswiki? Not specifically for translation content, but generally tackling systematic bias, see the stub focus section. You're welcome to put up 10 entries on the board on a topic you're interested in working on, it could be "bridges of Ioha", "1906 silent movies" or whatever.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:54, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the offer, but I wouldn't know where to begin with. My Thanhouser works are but a small part of a larger push. I'm just hoping the Babel project makes great strides and working to accomplish what I can in terms of coverage of a variety of topics. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 13:59, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Well, if you create ten or more articles on a given topic within the month you're welcome to put them up on the board for people to see.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:06, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Just created Category:Vodou art. No general article, and imagine the possibilities of articles on individual pieces and art of various Yoruba tribes etc! No doubt several hundred articles could be written about it. Interesting site too. African art definitely needs a massive amount of work on here!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:15, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Well I'm not above creating a few road transport GAs myself like Snake Pass, Dartford Crossing, Blackwall Tunnel and Twyford Down. The problem I've got with Sunset Strip is I can't do serious work on an article without having at least one, ideally more, really good book sources that cover the topic top to bottom, and then reading them, top to bottom. To start off with, I want to know more about its history as a centre of gambling due to historical boundaries and local laws, which is totally glossed over in the article. There does seem to be a dedicated book but it's offline, so I'll have to go to the library and get it, which will take a while. I'm sure Sitush feels the same, if you're going do a job, get in a state where you can do it really well beforehand. With that in mind, I do confess that doing minor admin tasks is easier as you can do them with your brain turned off - seriously any old idiot can delete a copyvio, it's piss easy when compared to writing an FA, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.   The 1500 DYK Creation and Expansion Medal
Well, what can I say? You've had a few awards for this landmark already, but here is the official one, still hot off the press! I didn't quite have the balls to label it the "Dr. Blofeld U Can't Touch This Award" though, maybe we can leave that for 2000! Seriously though, this is a phenomenal effort, keep it up. Thankyou Harrias that's a lovely looking award!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:44, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

Second opinion needed

edit

Hi Blofeld! I am a wee bit concerned about the recent IP editing on Denice D. Lewis but am not sure whether I should just let it pass. To be honest, she's probably most famous for having dated the same men as Diana and Fergie. Her current notability appears very borderline, in the absence of available 1980s/90s sources about her. Anyway - I'm not sure whether there is actual BLP violation going on with the IP's bigging-her-up edits or if the edits are JUST borderline/barely acceptable. What do you think? I don't want to get into an argument over this unless I'm pretty sure my info is accurate, so I thought I'd ask another editor whose opinions/views I trust. Thanks so much! Mabalu (talk) 01:01, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

Certainly reads like a puff piece and like it would be non notable. Imdb must be removed as a source for a start and most of the other sourcing is dodgy. But "the highest paid celebrity catwalk model in Europe during the 1980's and 1990's" if that is actually true and this cover, not to mention several of her roles in films and music videos would lead me to believe she's notable. Variety says she "slept her way to the top" and New York Magazine says "Seems to have slept with everyone", a celebrity serial shagger, that's why she's notable haha. But the puffery needs dialing down and some strong sourcing introduced. Doesn't help with the amateurish photo either.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:05, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

I've cleaned it up a bit and improved the sourcing anyway. The magazine ones are OK in this context as they do verify the covers photographically.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:54, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks! I was a bit startled when my Keep vote passed without challenge and actually got supporters - I thought the article would be deleted anyway. But thank you so much for taking the time to tweak - it's much appreciated. Mabalu (talk) 16:40, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

You have to see this. Frank Boy has nominated Priyanka Chopra for Featured Topic, without even informing us. Its a strict rule if one is not a significan contributor. I feel betrayed as I wanted to take her to featured topic in first attempt. Now, it wont as one stupid user has already nominated it without thinking anything. It was still two more topics to go before its nomination. But, this guy ruined everything. I feel like someone just killed me and I have nothing to say. Is there any way to delete this page. Please delete it Doctor as I am very depressed and I dont know what to say.—Prashant 16:37, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

Aren't we being a little neurotic here Prashant? Yes, he should have asked the article creators first, but Frank Boy's gesture to try make it a featured topic is a positive one.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:07, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Yes, It is. But, the problem was other related articles. For her to pass FT, it is neccessary to include In My City, Exotic, Miss World 2000 at least. Only then it can pass. Since In My City is already a GA and I will soon start work on Exotic and Miss 2000, which I don't know how to do! If these were alredy GAs and then he would have nominated, I would have been Happy that he nominated. But, he was not fully aware of her other related articles, so its okay. —Prashant 12:13, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Ask Frank Boy to kindly withdraw it then until the others are promoted. At a later date we can nom together then.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:32, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Yeah! It was already removed. Thank god! Do you know anything about Miss World 2000 because I don't, but I can try. Phew!—Prashant 13:00, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

A TFL?

edit

Hi Blofeld, once again! June 5 (Friday, a day on which a featured list features on the main page) marks the release of Dil Dhadakne Do. And since Priyanka Chopra is one of the actors starring in it, I think her filmography can be submitted on WP:TFLS. You, being one of the nominators of it, submit the list there. I would have done it myself, but you know what happened last time. -- FrankBoy CHITCHAT 20:00, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Please, don't. It should be best for her birthday (does not matter when). They forced her main article to appear on a normal day and that should not happen again. Hopefully it will appear in 2016, the day is Monday and you know FLs are scheduled on Fridays and Mondays.—Prashant 06:48, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Bach Cantatas missing articles

edit

I took the liberty of adding a couple that I know are there, but that we don't have - Joecelyne Taillon and Hildegard Heichele. Both memories of my misspent youth. :-) There are a lot of singers missing, I know, and probably some conductors, so the list can only be expanded. Don't know when I'll be able to do much to help; I've got a lot on my plate for the foreseeable future. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:19, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

@Ser Amantio di Nicolao: Thanks. Perhaps you might have time to help complete the missing list anyway! They'll all have to be started at time point. Too much to do on here, it's the world's biggest time sink wikipedia isn't it? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:03, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

That's putting it mildly. I may have time to add some names to the list this weekend - we'll see. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:04, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
I think the best thing is to copy the full list under a letter and then wikilink them all using the advanced tool thing. Then remove the ones we have entries for. That's what I did with the others. We really need a full missing list I think. I might find time to do it tomorrow.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:07, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I was thinking, too. I don't know when I'll be home tonight, but I may try to do it before bed. (I've got a lot of being social this week.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:12, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

@Ser Amantio di Nicolao: Can you think of a Pacific island nation which has ten missing politicians? If so put ten up on the board under the hidden section for June.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:17, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Shouldn't be too hard - let me think on it and see what I can do. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:39, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
OK...the cabinet of the Marshall Islands has ten positions, so I've provided a list of the ten current cabinet ministers (according to the Embassy website.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 13:29, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
That will do nicely, thanks! It can always spill into next month's list if they're not all stubbed in the next few days.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:35, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

"WIGI: Wikipedia Gender Inequality Index" Survey invitation

edit

Hello Dr. Blofeld,

I am a member of Wikipedia Gender Inequality Index (WIGI) project.

WIGI is an Individual Engagement Grant that seeks to automate the production and graphing of statistical presentation of gender in articles by various categories such as date of birth, citizenship, occupation, etc. - in a publicly viewable website with open-data downloads.

We're running a brief survey to find out what kind of information users would like captured, ideally about the state of Wikipedia biographies. We will use it to inform what statistics our portal will show and provide a final report on the observed trends at the end of the year.

Please help us out by completing this brief survey, which should take not more than 5 minutes to complete. Simply click on the link below to access the survey:

Re: Books

edit

Sorry, haven't yet had time to read them. Spent most of yesterday changing RL appointments. The way I was going back & forth, you'd think I was in the "pit" at the stock market trying to buy or sell. :-) Want to ask you something re: Stork Club. Not sure that Google Books will let you read Life magazine, but here's the link. This is where the Cub Room photo came from--their article on the Stork.

Since I uploaded the files some years ago, there's been a recent discovery that Life didn't renew their 1944 issues and a portion of their 1945 ones. The Life issue with the Stork article in it is now in the PD. There are some other photos now available as PD-one of the bar and another of the main dining room with an orchestra and people dancing. Copies are here: Main dining room, bar, and club entrance. All of these are part of the Life article. Would any of these be of interest re: adding to or changing photos in the article?
