Assyrian King

Dear Puduḫepa, I have seen that you have undone my Edit concerning the Assyrians. I don`t care much about it, I am not so much into if they are called Chaldeans, Syriacs, or Assyrians, I just have controlled in the source if there was a reference about the Assyrians and there were several references. So if something is deleted with the reason that it is not in the source, and this is wrong, then I revert it. Now if there is strong resistance against it, I can live with it. But I recommend that then the source should be deleted as well, otherwise the same problem (that someone will include the Assyrians) will appear again and again. And no, I have no relation with the one you mentioned. Best, Lean Anael (talk) 07:46, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Hello @Lean Anael:. The problem is not about whether the content is sourced or not. The problem is WP:SYNTHESIS here. And, by the way, if you think that the source should be deleted as well, please go ahead and delete it. Puduḫepa 07:52, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Citation changes at Afroasiatic languages

I reverted your script-based changes at Afroasiatic languages. These changes were not an improvement. Please do not use a script to enforce your private preference for citation style which affects only white space, and which has no effect on the rendered page.

Just to be clear: I prefer your use of white space to the way it was before, and I do it exactly the way you do; it is my preference, also. But, every change to an article needs to improve the article in some way, and this change did not; the old citation style was perfectly fine, and did not need to be changed. If you are using a script to make changes like this to other articles, please stop the script immediately, and get approval on the Talk page of articles where you plan to use it, before you execute it. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 09:51, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

@Mathglot:, the citation style makes the pages upload easier by removing redundant spaces. I think this is an improvement. By the way, if the script was created merely for one's private preference, then why do we need that script? What is the point of creating it, as all the changes made via the script could have been reverted per the same arguments above? Just wondering. Puduḫepa 10:06, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
The key phrase here, is: "I think this is an improvement." That's an opinion. At Wikipedia, we try to go by policy and guidelines; a lot of times, there are different ways to interpret them and people don't always agree. As far as "why do we need that script?" I can't answer that, as I didn't create it. My simple response would be: we don't. However, on pages that have *mixed* citation styles, it could possibly be helpful, I haven't looked at everything the script might do, only what it was doing in a couple of examples. There are probably lots of people using that script all over the place that I don't know about (and don't care about); you just happened to hit a few articles on my watchlist, and those, I do care about. The argument about not affecting the rendered page could just as well be an argument for leaving your script-changed pages alone; because the effect of the revert can't be seen any more than the effect of the change the script made, so why bother? In my view, it's to uphold what I think of as a very basic principle: if an edit doesn't improve the article, it shouldn't be made. Not everyone might agree with me; and Wikipedia operates by consensus. You could try to raise this as a discussion somewhere, and see if you can get agreement for your position; that's a valid approach. But as things stand, meaningless white-space changes on articles are generally speaking, not an improvement. Also, I don't buy the argument that removing some white space "makes the pages upload easier". Have a look at the actual HTML (not the wiki markup) of the page, to see what your browser is loading. The few dozen or few hundred white space characters you remove, are a drop in the bucket; one could just as well argue that running a script against lots of pages just to remove several dozen characters per page puts a strain on the server which could be better saved for actual, substantive, changes that improve the article. But that argument is bogus, and no better than the one about "making upload easier". That said, I see you are still a new editor, and just wanted to extend my welcome to you as an editor, and hope you enjoy it here, and plan to stay. Mathglot (talk) 10:21, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
@Mathglot: reading above, I don't see any WP policy to justify your reverts on, let's say, Hannah Arendt and Call of the Wild. All the arguments above are about your opinions. And I don't get why I should gain consensus on the talk pages to remove white spaces from the articles. Anyway, I will not use that script anymore, as it seems that all my edits will be reverted by you and I really don't have energy to continue that discussion. I am going to rm the script. Happy editing. Puduḫepa 10:49, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
I had another look at Hannah Arendt (diff) and Call of the Wild (diff), prepared to revert myself in either, or both cases, should there be something there that I missed. And perhaps there is, but I don't see it. All I see, is the removal of blanks in citations, having no effect on the rendered page at all. If I missed something, please clue me in. Please see WP:BURDEN; I don't need a policy to revert you; the burden of proof is on you to show why your edit should remain; not on those that come after you who challenge and remove it. You can also look at WP:BRD if you want a justification: you made a bold edit, it got reverted; next step, take it up at the article page. I will not remove all your edits, don't worry; but please: think about when you make an edit, what the purpose is, and how it improves the article. The one justification I can see for that script, is if it is capable of generating a consistent style on a page that is inconsistent (and I don't know that it is, or isn't); in that case, if you can figure out how to run the script only on inconsistent pages with no established style to retain, then it could be helpful. But you'd have to examine articles one by one to see if that were the case; if you just run it on whatever articles you come across, it may be changing articles that already have consistent citation style, into some other style, and that would be contrary to the guideline. By the way, did you edit before, and come back under a new name? You seem like you know a lot of stuff for someone who has only been around a couple of months. Mathglot (talk) 11:04, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
@Mathglot: see my global contributions and my sandbox, you can find some answers to your question. One can read WP content and its policies through WikiVisually, even though WP has been blocked in her country. Puduḫepa 11:11, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
I already explained the purpose of my edits and I don't think removing whitespaces are WP:BOLD edits. Reading WP:BURDEN, I don't think the policy has to do with the issue here. Puduḫepa 11:23, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Just follow the steps 1, 2 and 3 as shown and fill in the details

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. Remember that when adding content about health, please only use high-quality reliable sources as references. We typically use review articles, major textbooks and position statements of national or international organizations (There are several kinds of sources that discuss health: here is how the community classifies them and uses them). WP:MEDHOW walks you through editing step by step. A list of resources to help edit health content can be found here. The edit box has a built-in citation tool to easily format references based on the PMID or ISBN.

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "cite" click on it
  2. Then click on "templates",
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and fill in the details beside a magnifying glass followed by clicking said button,
  4. If the article is available in Pubmed Central, you have to add the pmc parameter manually -- click on "show additional fields" in the template and you will see the "pmc" field. Please add just the number and don't include "PMC".

We also provide style advice about the structure and content of medicine-related encyclopedia articles. The welcome page is another good place to learn about editing the encyclopedia. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a note. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 23:46, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

Hello Doc James. I didn't know that the case reports are not used on med-related articles. I thought that they were reliable as they were published on the PubMed. Anyway, thanks for informing. Puduḫepa 06:34, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Puduḫepa. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! – Juliancolton | Talk 03:51, 14 October 2019 (UTC)

Pinging users

I'm afraid the ping you added at User talk:Yamla#IP socks of a site-banned editor in Special:Diff/938314718 didn't work. With the {{ping}} template you have added a link to the user's page, but you didn't put a new signature (~~~~) in the same edit, and the Help:Notifications page explicitly says:

Note that the post containing a link to a user page must be signed; if the mention is not on a completely new line with a new signature, no notification will be sent.

From my practice, it's usually best to add a separate line with a notification link and a new sig under the last paragraph of the thread or entry you want to point at with your ping. Best regards. --CiaPan (talk) 13:06, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
