This page is horribly written with unproven statements that are passed off as fact. Beginning a sentence with "this is because" without adding any cited proof is mere conjecture that would not stand in an academic setting because it states a normative belief, not fact.

Stale Sources

The page heavily relies on and promotes the Guardian's "The Counted" database. However, that database hasn't been maintained since 2016. On the other hand, the Washington Post's police shooting database is current. (vr (talk) 19:06, 27 May 2020 (UTC))

Globalize

I added a reference with the stats and explanations, showing that whites are more than twice as likely to be killed compared to blacks. And here is a reference debunking the existence of a "shooting bias"; it shows than black police officers are 67% more likely to shoot blacks suspects compared to white police officers, and Hispanic police officers are even 145% more likely to do so compared to white police officers. And lastly, here is a reference showing that (white) police officers are more than 18x as likely to be shot by a black suspect than vice versa, an important fact to take into account when discussing claims of "racial bias". Removal of "Ways to reduce shooting bias".

This section is very opinion based and doesn't belong on Wikipedia. Statements like "The work culture within the police is highly racist, as many recent scandals have shown." clearly don't belong, but I believe the entire "Ways to reduce shooting bias" section should be removed, as it contains similar non-neutral statements. I don't have the experience to clean up and edit the section to fit the Wikipedia format, but I believe it should be removed until a cleanup is complete.

Improvements are always needed but let us not throw out the baby with the bathwater. The section has reliable references, if there's a counter-opinion with references (ie: the police are not racist) then it should be included as well. Ifnord (talk) 16:11, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello, I am employed by Boston University's Fineman & Pappas Law Libraries. After reviewing this Wikipedia page, I believe that information from one of our faculty's scholarship might provide a valuable addition to this page. I would appreciate it if this requested edit could be reviewed.

Add citation to first sentence of article defining shooting bias:

Add sentence to first paragraph of article: Shooting bias is not limited to one race, as studies have shown that both Black and White individuals demonstrated almost equivalent levels of shooting bias.

Add citation to first paragraph of 'Implicit Racial Bias' section defining (1) implicit racial bias and (2) explaining the relation with shooting bias:
