Hey there. I got an email from Tree about a requested account I sent to OTRS. The reason I did this is that there were multiple living persons that were notable with this name. Between the list on the disambig page and my search results on Google once I filtered out all of the crap social media crap (yeah, I said crap twice), I just didn't feel comfortable with anyone with a name that had that many hits for possible notability not verifying who they were. The gov email address from an IP that was blocked multiple times for block evasion by a specific duck indicated to me that this user could be from anywhere in the country and there were a couple from the states in the list of notables. I also received the e-mail from the government e-mail, and there was no other information available besides that. I also didn't see anything on Wikipedia in terms of any notable living persons by that name. Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews

Hello Ktr101. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

When to resubmit MethBase wiki page

Hi there,

I received an email from HasteurBot saying that because there have been no edits for 6 months on my submitted page, MethBase, it would be deleted if it was not either resubmitted for review or edited. The main reason for rejection the first time was because we were too new a database, but we have gone from 1 to 6 citations on google scholar and have a broad userbase. Is there a particular guideline for how many third party citations are required before acceptance? I don't want to resubmit if it is not yet relevant, and another comment on the draft page suggested that we keep it in draft space until it is deemed notable enough. I modeled our page after another methylation database page, NGSmethDB, and linked to them as well.

I appreciate your thanks for my edit about submarines built by Fore River Shipyard. It was a surprise when I looked down from my paragraph to see the subject had already been addressed! Who would have thought that USS C-1 (SS-9) was launched a bit earlier than USS B-1 (SS-10)? revised (now properly cited) article for JERRY MASTERS

Hi Kevin,

I hope this message finds you doing well in the New Year. I recently submitted an article about a musician and recording engineer named Jerry Masters. You were kind enough to initially review the article for submission. It was declined on basis of not proper/not enough citation basis. I have worked hard to add the adequate number of references from various credible sources along with historic photography. There are now 9 cited sources pertaining to each paragraph.

I am a journalist and music business historian based in Alabama and some of my work covers the rich history of recording music arts and heritage in the South and this state in particular. Im a greenhorn novice as regards Wikipedia, so I appreciate your letting me know about the deficiency in citations being an issue. I was a bit lazy in dealing with a historical personage and sometimes I have to admit I get "tunnel vision" in writing about music and take for granted/assume that everyone has already heard of many of the people I write about. hahah. Sorry about that.

At any rate, I have got some solid citational references in there now, so at your convenience if you could let me know if all things look up to speed now for a re-submission, I'd greatly appreciate it. The newly edited/updated draft is saved in my sandbox for review.

I know you guys are busy, and I appreciate your volunteer work as a contributing editor to the Wikipedia cause. It's exciting to join the family. I hope that over time, I'll get more used to the process on submission.

I respectfully disagree with your determination and I offer the following additional explanation in argument for this.

On myself, which is not part of the page. I was an atheist, and had no knowledge that the Jesus people Movement existed, let alone what an awakening was. I thought Billy Graham was misguided at best, having heard him once at a rally in South Africa. I am today one of the authorities on Operation Savannah - in particular the battle of Luso. Angola 1975/76 - a CIA operation to stop the advance of communism.

I publish web sites on various social issues, like energy efficiency - http://open4energy.com - and write on the use of chemicals in the dental industry. If you google the term "bischoff chemical dental" - you will see an article I wrote for the #1 publication to the dental industry.

After 25 years as an alcoholic, I was helped to get sober, and on 10th October 2001 accepted Jesus. Today I am a student of PTSD and alcoholism, in particular how AA and a spiritual awakening has changed the face of alcoholism. It was in researching the history of "awakenings" that I discovered the spiritual and historical importance of the Jesus People Movement" - It is my generation that are recognizing how drugs and alcohol, which were the medication for PTSD and the Emotional Injuries of the Vietnam war. Sadky, we are repeating teh same mistake, as we see 10 young people commit suicide every day as a result of trauma this past 10 years and the gulf war.

This wiki page, is much more to me that a history on Philpott. It is how we expose our younger generation to the past, and to not make the same mistakes.

Before I start adding more information (there are 100's of references that could be added) (I wanted to begin with quality and not quantity) here is why I believe that the Movement is an important event (it is referenced on Wiki) - Philpott meets the definition for a person of "note" - and the citations meet the standard for independent authority.

I will of course add more information, and as many more citations as you require. Although, looking at pages on other people of note. I have found the to be less complete, for a more minor event, for a person with a more minor role, and citation of more minor authority than a PHD study by the authority on the subject.

Eskridge published the book God's Family Forever. The appendix to the book is the reference material for his doctoral thesis on the movement. He is now the accepted authority on the Jesus people Movement. He is on staff at Wheaton College, has been since 1988.

He affirms the importance I attribute to the movement.

i) "was one of the most important American religious movements of the second half of the 20th century." ii) "is one of the formative powers that shaped American youth in the late 1960's and 1970's." iii) "Calvary Chapel (Chuck Smith) and the Vineyard churches trace their roots to the Jesus People Movement"

He states that Philpott as the person who introduced Christianity (what grew into the movement) to San Francisco. (citation made)

He further accredits Philpott as the person who preached the Gospel to Hoyt. Literally saved from the fire in the temple. Hoyt is in the late stages of releasing his book. I have interviewed Hoyt, who after being born again, together with Philpott went on to establish the communities that saved 1000's of young people from the drug culture and abuse that was taking place.

Hoyt, was drawn away, to be a founder of the "Children of God (http://www.vice.com/read/the-bizarre-and-terrifying-propaganda-art-of-the-children-of-god-666) - lost his family, and almost his life before seeing his error, and rebuilding his life.

Hoyt could be seen as #2 of the movement. I am planning to develop a page for him also when his book is released.

The citation I have placed to Eskridge is the most authoritative that can exist.

Eskridge wrote the forward to Philpott's memoir - Memoirs of a Jesus Freak - saying "Memoirs of a Jesus Freak is an important, first hand, reminiscence about those pivotal early days... helpful to scholars, pastors and lay people as they reflect on the past.

I offer that that the material in Philpott's memoir, although written by him, can be considered authoritative by the introduction from the subject authority.

The memoir includes photographs, accounts of the music, the preaching, the leaders, the communities and the cults that developed later.

I hope that you will reconsider, or let me know what additional information you require.

Hi Ktr101, I just wanted to let you know that I speedily deleted an article that you recently moved out of AfC, Mary Ann Rhodes (supercentenarian) by criteria G4, as Rhodes was deemed insufficiently notable for Wikipedia by consensus and a deletion debate and the new article did not address the concerns that were raised in the discussion. Wikipedia has had a lot of difficulty with longevity-related articles in the past that culminated in an Arbcom case, and there are still issues from time to time regarding such articles' adherence to Wikipedia's policies. Hello Ktr101 I see that you are dealing with issues involved with Aero & Tech Nexth, I appreciate you cant discuss your dealing but the person claiming to be the aircraft designer keeps removing cited material and adding marketing and unreferenced material. Its probably getting near the point where the article needs to be protected against these edits by somebody with clear conflict of interest. Some of the recent press clippings added by the user have not supported the claims made. It must be a simple thing for the owner/designer to update the company website or press releases and provide reliable references that can be verified. If they think anything is factual wrong but cited then it should be easy to bring them up on the article talk page or remove any unreferenced facts. It is in all are interests to get the best information and source we can find but patience gets a bit thin when we are at the point of disruptive editing. Thanks. I realise now that perhaps I should have created a stub article and then tag it with a translation template, as outlined here? The content and references used would be taken from the original Swedish page.

Waterparks draft

Is there anything public you can point me at with respect to the "paid editing debacle" you mention here? And will you be offended if the G13 tag and your decline remain deleted when I history merge this draft with the other one and the version in mainspace? Essentially, one company created the draft, another editor who impersonated one an administrator offered to create the article, and then charged the company to build the same article using the draft. I don't know if they went through with it, but I am going to assume that the editor (who also sent information to another company), is a paid editor and a checkuser should eventually be run for the user. Hello, just so you know, this was not the right way to resolve a page that has been blanked for copyright investigation. The author was re-writing it on the Temp page of course, but once done the temp page must be histmerged into the main article, not copy/pasted in with the Temp page blanked-redirected. Copy/pasting it as was done here loses all the attribution for the editing that the author had done on the temp page (required by our license), and that edit has now been attributed to you. Just so you know ...

The reason the month was used in the title of what you have now moved to 2013 Spuyten Duyvil derailment was that, as noted on the talk page, there had been another derailment, of a freight train, near the same site earlier that year. So there hadn't been "only one". This is why, before you get the idea to be bold and change something that doesn't appear to make sense, you should look around and see if there wasn't some good reason for it in the first place.

Now, of course, we had left the article title that way because we thought we might create July 2013 Spuyten Duyvil derailment eventually. But almost a year and a half later, we still haven't, so in that respect I don't blame you because it was on us to create the other article and we never did. With regard to the above articles, I have reverted your edit because a foreign article does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion (see WP:A2). Usually these articles requires the tag {{Not English}} to see if anyone would be interested to translate the particular article. These articles would only be deleted after 2 weeks and even so requires a nomination for deletion.

That being said, I have checked the respective Copyvios reports and confirmed that above articles are copied from individual websites (CSD G12). I have updated the CSD tags for the articles now.

2015 Accra explosion

The 2015 Accra explosion killed more people (200) than the Accra Sports Stadium disaster (127), therefore it appeared incorrect to say it was the worst disaster 'since' then as it was a worse disaster. Something to look at is that many of the "gnoming" accounts insert a phrase "it's class is [[insecta]]" to relevant articles. Note the grammar. Maybe someone who can run AWB might want to go through and fix those. There are also a huge number of inappropriate {{italictitle}} insertions that should probably be cleaned up, as well as bad internal linking. Risker (talk) 16:13, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

That is something that I noted as well, but I suppose I can go back in and fix them from now on, especially since many of the additions were added in over multiple edits, which makes it near impossible to individually revert them. There is no rule that says that I have to immediately create the link the second I link to the article, as I have been busy doing other things in the meantime that have more importance in my life. The site even encourages red links, to show people than an article can be created and to encourage people to do so, but I also know that this page is an exception. Thanks for your message Kevin. I appreciate you contacting me. However I actually cannot agree with what you propose; as Moonriddengirl tries so hard to make clear so often, we really face a major copyright liability - which could threaten the site's very existence if left unaddressed. Therefore when I find clearly dubious articles of Brent's, I am going to put them through the deletion process. It's just so sad that he did all this hard work and didn't take the time to mix his sources more, put things in his own words, and reference them!! Again thanks for dropping me a line. Maybe I wrote that and did not make sense, but essentially what I meant is that we would leave things so bare bones, that the articles would just have templates, a basic sentence or two, and maybe an infobox left. What would be left would just say it exists (or existed), and have links to other things for people to add back in material that is cited. I definitely agree that all offending text should be purged, but I think if we could at least save the articles so that they are bare skeletons that can be improved upon, it might be easier for someone to improve it later on in the future. I already have added back in two articles by this method, and made sure that everything that could possibly be of issue was removed, because I believe in being overly cautious about this whenever possible. 497th Combat Training Flight

I don't see anything to suggest this unit has been returned to squadron size. Although I can find post 2006 web pages referring to it as a squadron, they tend to predate the AFHRA Factsheet of May 2011, which affirms it is a flight.

At any rate, appears to have been redesignated seems more appropriate for a section on the talk page, not a move of the page. I believe the flight to squadron changes should be reverted. --Lineagegeek (talk) 22:36, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
