@SunDawn:@Justanothersgwikieditor: I trust my recent pinging reached both of you with regard to the indiscriminate editing by 2406:3003:2073:478e:f9b9:db24:3e24:833c. I only realised that my pinging was ineffective when I typed in @SunDawn and @Justanothersgwikieditor. You can refer to my talk page for more information. I hope you can at least revert 2406:3003:2073:478e:f9b9:db24:3e24:833c if you find his/her edits whimsical or unreasonable. Edit of the Articles on Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chock Tong

Hi, I just wanted to make it simple for people to read about the two leaders' election performances rather than go to the constituencies themselves. Moreover foreign leaders have wiki pages with such tables. Apologies for whatever happened. What would be your idea?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Purasuvakam (talkcontribs)

@Purasuvakam:Same sentiments as here, here and here. I see Donald Trump, Boris Johnson, Barack Obama do not have any such data while Joe Biden had a very simplified version and the details are in another page. Can you list any examples? --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 06:53, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

Regarding Reverting of Changes to JianhaoTan Article

Hi, I noticed that you reverted my minor change to the Jianhao Tan Article, where I only changed the formatting of his name within the article to 'Tan Jian Hao', as per Chinese naming conventions, which is also used in other Wikipedia articles. I left the article title as 'Jianhao Tan' since I am aware that that is how he is known online, and only made this adjustment in areas that are meant to address the person's name formally. I even consulted the talk page regarding this topic. May I ask why you felt that my change should be reverted? Thanks. - Sentimex (talk) 21:56, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

@Sentimex: per what user:robertsky had mentioned, my edit summary did put the reason per wp:commonname. You asked, you got an answer and you went ahead with the change and I disagreed.
Typically infobox and first mention of page topic for biography follows page topic hence my reversion. --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 01:21, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
But even in the examples given in wp:commonname shows that there are articles of people where the first mention doesn't follow the page topic. The examples they gave were Bill Clinton and Bono, who are referred to as William Jefferson Clinton and Paul David Hewson respectively in their first mention. This is something I've noticed was very common in Wikipedia, which was what informed me to make the change in the first place. The infobox for both articles does follow the article title, fair enough, but why not at least change the first mention to be the person's formal name, as per the articles mentioned and many others? - Sentimex (talk) 20:53, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
Sentimex, re-reading WP:COMMONNAME, I can accept your change to lead but do let the name in the infobox follow article title. Thanks. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 00:57, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
Sure thing. Thank you for the replies and glad we could come to a resolution. I am new and am trying to learn. May I then consult you, just to be thorough, if it would be good if I simply left the first mention as 'Tan Jian Hao', or should it also be followed with a '(also known by his online alias 'JianHao Tan', born 14 June 1993)'? - Sentimex (talk) 07:41, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
Sentimex, I was thinking about the same thing but they are pretty much close to each other that I think it is fine not to mention. Using your Bono example, the stage name and real name is pretty much different so highlighting the stagename is almost required. Tan Jian Hao and JianHao Tan should be close enough that any reader can pick up the difference themselves without elaboration.
I hope you stay around Wikipedia and continue to improve Wikipedia (and hopefully more Singapore related articles). Feel free to browser WikiProject Singapore. The community is a bit quiet but we do have various editors on various niches so there are always hopefully someone to answer questions or work together. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 07:48, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
Totally agree 100%, hence I did not suggest this in the talkpage. Thank you for the kind comment! I'm taking things very very slowly because I'm always afraid of doing things wrongly, but I'm glad to have the chance to learn from other experienced editors. If all goes well, I would love to contribute as much as I can! - Sentimex (talk) 08:01, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Recent Edit to Desmond Lim

Hi Justanothersgwikieditor,

I would like to bring your attention to your recent edit made at 01:06, 8 July 2021 You did not specifically state why it was reverted. I was trying to help readers understand Desmond Lim early life struggles which the article did not capture. Could you let me know what the problem was so I could make corrections where necessary? Thanks --Bleblemi (talk) 09:10, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

@Bleblemi: You had added promotional statements (sob story to make reader to sympathise with Lim) which is not appropriate for Wikipedia. --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 09:23, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Hello, Previously, you mentioned that the edit you reverted was promotional (sob story). I rewrote and you reverted again. I'm forced to ask what is promotional in this: He grew up in a modest background, precisely in a pre-war house in Jalan Berseh (a densely-populated area of Singapore)

@Bleblemi: That line can still be considered promotional and it is really very vague. Based on your edit history, it will still be considered trying to invoke readers to sympathize with him with him having a modest background. To fix this lines, define modest background (did he grow up in a very poor family? or live in small quarters or something else?)? Pre-war house does not mean anything. A good class bungalow built before WW2 is still considered a pre-war house. Was Jalan Berseh very crowded then? A lot of gaping information which make this line very vague and unsuitable. You can look at this and see that it is well defined on how he grew up without invoking any sympathies nor trying to impress on the reader.
Also do read Wikipedia policy WP:PROMOTION. Thanks--Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 10:10, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
I would be willing to assist if there's any problems. My only concern would be the validity of MustShareNews as a reliable source, in addition to the material being from an interview and as such a primary source. Seloloving (talk) 13:18, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

How to engage WikiProject Singapore?

Hi, I was looking at the article for the SAR 21, and I posted in the talk page to discuss if anyone can provide a better photo for the info box. I was thinking of engaging WikiProject Singapore, since you mentioned it to me. I'm still a beginner and am figuring out how things work. How would I suggest this very minor thing to WikiProject Singapore for inputs? Thanks. - Sentimex (talk) 23:03, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

Sentimex, you can just start a new section in the talkpage like the others and request for a better photo etc. I was asking for a book the other time. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 01:06, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
That's what I was thinking, glad to know I had the right idea. Thanks for the reply! - Sentimex (talk) 01:43, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Any Telelgram or Whatsapp group for Singapoore Wiki Editors?

Hello Justanothersgwikieditor,

I'm really keen to contribute more to Singapore-related articles on Wikipedia. As I'm still a newbie, I may still require help and guidance to ensure that articles on Wikipedia are edited correctly. Do you know of any Telegram or Whatsapp group for Singapore editors that I can join to receive on-the-spot help/guidance? I have seen many other overseas wiki editors having meet-ups and also Telegram or Whatsapp groups to connect with. I was wondering if we have anything similar in Singapore.

Thank you.

Animalbreeder (talk) 03:20, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

@Justanothersgwikieditor: Do you have Telegram or Whatsapp? I'm just excited about this whole new Wikipedia editing experience. I would love to learn from the best and be a great editor like you and receive recognitions and prestigious awards like your National Day Award and also the Pingat Jasa Gemilang. I'm also polishing my editing and writing skills to build up my portfolio. Really hope you could consider helping out this newbie in case I have pressing issues while writing or editing and would want to get help from you via Telegram or Whatsapp.
Animalbreeder, currently no such off wiki groups exist. Best bet is still the talkpage. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:28, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Recent edit to Bedok Reservoir Park and Macritchie Reservoir

Hello Justanothersgwikieditor,

I've edited the 2 wiki pages to include comprehensive details about our reservoirs in Singapore. Would like to get your opinion on how I could improve on these comprehensive details that I would like to add on to the list of our reservoirs in Singapore. Many Singaporeans have began to take up hiking as a hobby so I thought with the introduction of these comprehensive details about our reservoirs, it might help them.

Thank you.

Animalbreeder (talk) 06:46, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi Animalbreeder, thanks for reaching out to me. For starters, you can read up on information from PUB about our local reservoirs, newspaper articles from the local media (be it printed or online) and transfer the information over.
Do take note that any information must be reliably sourced, and also written in your own words.
A few things to take note, incidents that took places at these places should not be mentioned in such articles unless such incidents forces a change to the place. It will then be considered part of the history. Amenities should be generally reduced to general descriptions.
An example for you to consider is this featured article, Abberton Reservoir. You can use it as a reference in improving the article. If you are afraid of messing up the article, you can try it in your sandbox first. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 07:53, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Dear Justanothersgwikieditor,

Thank you for your interest in this article, and for noting the deorphanisation! You changed the admittedly unwieldy title of this List. However, unfortunately a fair number of damaged etcetera extensive castles was included, which cannot possibly be called country houses. So now the present title seems misleading.

  • Can you argue your name change of this article?

Thanks, bye, Hansmuller (talk) 15:56, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Hansmuller, the original lead states This is an incomplete list of Dutch Republic villages and country houses (including castles) so I just renamed it to without the brackets. Castle notes in its lead, Use of the term has varied over time and has been applied to structures as diverse as hill forts and country houses, so this is partly the basis which I shortened the page title. I apologize for the lack of edit summary in the move. I have noted you have since updated the lead.
As it stands, I suggest changing to List of Dutch villages and buildings destroyed or damaged by the French during the Rampjaar. Buildings will encompass country houses, castles etc. Indication of Rampjaar clarifies the title and make it clearly it is damaged during the incident rather than very specific years (I was initially a bit puzzled why it was so specifically damaged in 2 particular years).
I am fine with you reverting the page move also. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 01:14, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. However, i think we should be more specific: "buildings" is too vague, could be anything. The French policy was to hurt the Dutch military elite - generals and admirals etcetera, active elsewhere in the field or at sea - at their own family homes: their country houses and castles. And then there were destroyed town castles, as of Culemborg and Wageningen. So i think we need for clarity to state something like the original title. Anyway, the order "castles and country houses" sounds better, so your work remains very useful. Thanks, Hansmuller (talk) 08:56, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
Hansmuller, as mentioned, I am fine with reverting to the original title or as you like a move to another name. We are both looking for clarity so I am glad this little discussion might have given rise to a better suggestion. Do rename as you deem appropriate. Thanks Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 09:06, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

Short descriptions

G'day Justanothersgwikieditor! I have noticed you changing some short descriptions on articles, and wondered if you had read WP:SHORTDESC? Importantly, WP:SDLENGTH which specifies that a short description should be short (ie no more than about 40 characters), and you don't need to be too detailed ie no need for the number of boats in the class or the name of the class (which is in the title). Please try to stick close to those parameters and the other guidance on that page when making changes to short descriptions. Thanks so much, and enjoy your editing! Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 22:00, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

Peacemaker67, Hi. I read that and I thought it will be within guidelines. I will take note and be more concise next time. Thanks for the reminder! Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 01:27, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Recent edit to the Singaporean Mahjong Scoring rules

Hi Justanothersgwikieditor,

I would like to refer to your recent edit made at 03:32, 15 June 2021‎ on the section ‎Missed Discard (过水牌)

The summarized version does not convey the same. In particular, it is not obvious that tiles that a player cannot call win/pong on are not restricted to the missed discard only . i.e. There are additional tiles apart from the missed discard tile that the player is not allowed to call win/pong. Those elaborated cases with examples were necessary to explain the concepts. Neither was there a point in the summarized version to address the fact that it is commonly accepted to be allowed to skip win on the discard of a lower value hand and still claim win later on a discard of a higher value hand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sgmahjongplayer888 (talkcontribs)

@Sgmahjongplayer888: Hi, thanks for bringing this to my talkpage. Per WP:NOTGUIDE, I removed the examples as it will be like an instruction manual which are against wikipedia rules. I reread the rules and examples and realise that the rules written are a simplified version of not allowing to pong/win on the missed discard while the examples are an advanced form of missed discards (aka the 2 sides of a waiting Chow). I will add on to the rules and not list any examples later. Thanks. --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 01:52, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
@Justanothersgwikieditor: Hi, please see the article talk page for my follow up.

Dear Justanothersgwikieditor,

You rated this list as "Low importance", why? According to the importance scale, this list should be of High Importance I think, as there exists an impressive documentation over 350 years. It explains why there are relatively much fewer castles in the Netherlands than, for example, in France. Can you please explain? Thank you, Hansmuller (talk) 09:55, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Hansmuller, typically if the article does not have a project listing, I will set the importance as low. Most wikiprojects have their own articles importance assessment and since I am not part of both Wikiproject Lists and WikiProject Netherlands, I am unable to assess properly whether is it low, mid, high or otherwise. Please note that the assessment typically will be based on the entire wikiproject. What might be high for a project could be low for another project. It is possible to have an article with different importance assessment for various Wikiprojects. Context is very important here.
As said, my default importance is low when listing the related wikiprojects . If you like a proper assessment of importance, please check with both Wikiproject Lists and WikiProject Netherlands. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 10:15, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

changes on Singapore Police Force Band page

How do I go about updating the page without copyright violation? Our texts are from reliable sources and are our own. It wont be possible to update the page about the SPF Band without using information from the source itself? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Liyana Oreth (talkcontribs) 09:53, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Liyana Oreth, Thanks for reaching out to me on this issue.
Firstly, please remember to sign the end of your messages with ~~~~.
Secondly, based on your editing history and your message here, it is clear that you have a conflict of interest with the SPF Band, this could mean either you are paid directly as a staff of SPF (or even MHA) or an external agency to edit the page directly or indirectly as a staff of SPF (or even MHA). If you do not have a COI, I will appreciate if you can confirm this. If you indeed has a COI, please refer to the section in your talkpage and do the necessary. If you need help, feel free to leave a message here for me again.
Thirdly, again from your talkpage, please look at WP:Copy-paste. In short, I will advise read the passage you want to copy from, keep the information in your mind, close the passage and write in your own words. If you feel you are not up to it, feel free to link the references (please do give me an online copy, it was a bit tough finding each volume by myself, it will be best if it is reported in the local papers as that will be a preferred source) here, write down what you wanted to add on. I try my best to incorporate it.
Lastly, I reverted your recent changes due to 2 reasons. 1) You removed sourced statements and 2) you added unsourced statements. It is alright to edit / remove sourced statements but reasoning need to be included in at least your edit summary. Wikipedia require verifiability, usually I wait for a few minutes before undoing to give editors some time to put in a reference. I noted that you put in the same text again so I reverted on sight.
It might be a fair bit of information to take in so summarising (1) declare whether you have a conflict of interest or not? If yes, please follow the instructions there to request another editor to help you update (2) if no, take a bit of time to familiarise how to rewrite in your own words or you can pass me the information and I try to help (if I have the time, we are all volunteers here). Thanks -- Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 10:18, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
Liyana Oreth, (friendly talkpage stalker) In short.
a) If you are part of the SPF, you should not be editing the page yourself. You can propose materials on the talkpage and reviews can check it for neutrality.
b) As the SPF website says © 2021 Government of Singapore, you are unable to release any texts from it directly as all contents here must be under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License.
c) It would be best if you can provide secondary sources which does not originate from SPF. Primary sources may be used, but only with caution. You may let me know on my talkpage if you have other questions too. Seloloving (talk) 01:29, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Updates to Singapore Police Force Band

How can I proceed with the updates? Is there anyone that I can liaise with and pass the necessary updates too? Is it possible to get link of references for the history section? Liyana Oreth (talk) 04:12, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi Liyana Oreth, have you read the section above? Please read and ensure you understand what we meant. It is preferable non-primary sources are used (aka not directly from SPF or MHA). Thanks. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 04:21, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

Also, as per my latest edit summary on Kenneth Gin Ying Doon, please note that Wikipedia:External link indicates External links normally should not be placed in the body of an article on its first line. User:Sgweirdo

I saw you left a warning on this editor's talk page. They keep on blanking the page, getting away with multiple final warnings if you see the page history. I have previously reported to admins, but they didn't do anything about it. Equine-man (talk) 10:51, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

@Equine-man: User is allowed to blank their own talk page per Wikipedia:REMOVED.
Yes it does make checking of warnings difficult but the page history should be quite clear.
I will suggest just let the editor be unless the behaviour is repetitive and he does not make any improvement. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 11:49, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

List of massacres in the Philippines

If the Batangas massacre is not a massacre then there has never ever been a massacre in world history. Isn't the definition of "massacre" unlawful executions without any due process? So 25,000 of these people, almost all of whom were unarmed civilians and were proven to be killed, don't meet the threshold for massacre? Aren't the Einsatzgruppen massacres, aka unlawful executions of "suspected enemy fighters", considered massacres or genocide nowadays? How is Batangas not similar to an Einsatzgruppen massacre?

Nimuda (talk) 04:16, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

Nimuda, you have called it yourself exactly. It is unlawful executions of prisoners without trials. While there is overlap on the meaning of massacre and Extrajudicial killing but your source explicitly written it. What you have done can be considered as Wikipedia:Original research, I will suggest you bring it up to the various wikiprojects and discuss the Batangas killings is recognised as a massacre or not. Your second source does not even matches the statement you made along with it which made your overall position very weak. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 05:03, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
Justanothersgwikieditor thank you for responding. That second source if you click on the PDF (I don't think we can directly link PDFs), https://www.loc.gov/rr/frd/Military_Law/pdf/Yamashita.pdf , it runs down all the war crimes accusations against General Yamashita, many of which were not even in Manila and not done by the Navy but by Army/Kenpeitai which he was responsible for. Page 5 and 29 covers the Batangas massacre/unlawful killings. Not my own words or research, but written by General Courtney Whitney who was writing a memorandum summarizing the whole trial including the arguments and accusations by both the prosecution and defense.
Nimuda (talk) 05:26, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
Nimuda, the second source I was referring to was this, I apologise for not being clear. For this source (it is debatable whether the source is reliable or not), the figure of estimated 25,000 men, women and children, mostly non-combatants or civilians, were massacred by the Japanese was not directly attributed to Yamashita and the source it attributed the figure from, does not explicitly count (though we can slowly count...) the number of victims and again does not attribute to Yamashita also.
I think we can link to PDF directly as I have done so many times without any editors letting me know otherwise. It is an assumption on my part though. The PDF indicates About the middle of December 1944,Colonel Nishiharu, the Judge Advocate and police officer of the 14th Amy Group, told Yamashita -that there was a large number of guerrillas in custody and there was not sufficient time to try them and said that the Kempei Tai would 'punish those who were to be punished.' To this Yamashita merely nodded is apparent approval (R 3762, 3763, 3814, 3815). Under this summary procedure over 600 persons were executed as 'guerrillas' in Manila alone between 15 and 25 December 1944 (R 3763). In that same month, by a written order, Yamashita commended the Cortbitarte (Manila) Kempei Tai garrison for their Fine work in 'suppressing guerrilla activities (~905, 906). (any typo is mine from copying and pasting from a PDF) indicate these are extrajudicial killing of prisoners suspected of guerilla activities and not a Sook Ching where the Chinese in Singapore are rounded up and just executed.
Again, I like to say, it will be best if you bring this issue up to Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history or related projects, get a consensus there whether does it fits a definition of massacre etc. If you can get a consensus that it can be considered a massacre, feel free to add it with a link to the discussion in the edit summary of the edit. Please do not include me there as I do not have much interest in this and was just routinely checking edits. Thanks Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 06:31, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia changes under her managing team request

Hi there, the updates of both languages are requested by her management team. Will appreciate it if you could inform us the differences in policies and guidelines between the 2 Wikipedias.--Patriziatan (talk) 07:45, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

@Patriziatan:, I am unable to give you the details in the differences as I am not active in Chinese Wikipedia. Typically wholesale translation from one language to another language is frowned upon and details are covered in WP:TRANSLATE. As said, update the article accordingly with missing details, following the current format of the article will be good.
Also, you had just declared a conflict of interest with Tong Bing Yu. Are you part of the management team or outsourced staff? Anyway, please refrain from editing her article (English or Chinese or any other versions) anymore. Any edits should be preferably done via edit requests. Are you the "Persistent Destroyer/User: Chimura Fox Free"? ;o) Cheers Adakiko (talk) 05:19, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

Adakiko, that will be WP:LTA in en. I did not even realise there is a revert war between my edits haha. -- Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 05:39, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
I was wondering why your edit was reverted. It appears the editor thinks you are the "persistent destroyer". Adakiko (talk) 06:36, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
Adakiko, looking at the socks, my username does not even comes close. Also, the described LTA editor behaviour does not describe what I had edited to the article also. Might be the LTA itself doing "accuser accusing others first" to cover tracks. -- Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 07:05, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

Some reply from me

Greetings, @Justanothersgwikieditor:.

It is hard to say, but I had a tough time to decide where to start, but I go by the randomness because I felt lazy and also time constraints. Anyway I came here was because that I need some help to resolve one of some users (Singapore user, for the accord)'s editing rights after seeing that the user was unfortunately blocked due to sockpuppet and the user reported of no such wrongdoing but another user was doing instead, and the person also hoping to block a certain user for its wrongdoings as well. I do not want to run the risk of being one but helping the users, because of reading many rules of Wikipedia but I still do not know where to begin, or who to ask.

If you can help, that will be nice. In the meantime, Thanks. SReader65 (talk) 07:39, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

SReader65, Hi! I see that you had ask Pyrrho the Skipper about a similar issue about the socks. Perhaps you can link me to the socks that you mentioned and I can better explain the policy to you? -- Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 01:45, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Justanothersgwikieditor, thanks for replying, but for now I can't link any socks for you because fearing that I may ping them, I know what is a CheckUser system all about, but not all of these are perfect because for the sake of the this case, it was someone else who was doing the strings but then CheckUser did flagging the (and from Singapore, a former member) user as a sock, instead of said user. So, I came here replying this was see if you and your team can help. But I also want to remain anonymous when doing the things. Thank you.

P.S. I had known that policy, and I only just ask for help. SReader65 (talk) 12:37, 7 March 2022 (UTC)

Revert in East India Company article

Hi,

I noticed that you reverted multiple edits for East India company article.I want to know more since the content seemed to be quite concise.

Have a good weekend.

Vinay84 (talk) 13:28, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

@Vinay84 Hi, when I reverted the change at East India Company, I noted that it has the same chronology listed over at Company rule in India. Without checking the edit history of Company rule in India, I assumed it was copied from that to East India Company. This assumption is wrong and you have copied this chronology from this article to Company rule in India instead. Please note that even if the editor is an IP editor, there is a need for attribution for copying within Wikipedia (see WP:CWW) and also preferably link from one article to another article by using hatnotes or other linkage. Generally we do not duplicate whole sections hence I revert to the last version before the addition of the chronology.
Looking at the chronological list, the list does not fit into either article well. Under Expansion section in East India Company, it is an awkward subsection in the Company Rule in India article. Over at Company rule in India, events in the list are covered in prose and the section of the Governers General.
If you like to restore the list on either articles, please do discuss over at either or both of the articles, or with editor Fowler&fowler on the best way to include it. Thanks --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 15:19, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
I'm not sure I clearly understand the issue here, but I had added that chronology to the Company rule in India page long ago, as I had a similar one to the British Raj page. The East India Company page is about the corporate entity between the period 1600 to 1757. The rule of the Company in India (1757 to 1858) is in Company rule in India. The major reason for its dissolution is in Indian rebellion of 1857 and direct rule in India, or Crown rule after 1858 is in the British Raj page. I've removed text that had crept into the EIC page after our last talk page discussion there. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 16:51, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
@Fowler&fowler:, Hi. First and foremost I apologize for the ping as I used the new reply link for the talkpage.
I believe I messed up the timeline in what happened and just realised i interpreted the diff wrongly.
In short, this is a series of my wrong interpretation of edits that had transpired. Basically in short, this edit should not have been done and that should pretty much concludes it. My apologies again to you and @Vinay84: for any confusion gone. I strike through my reply when I have access to a computer in the morning. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 17:06, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
@Vinay84: If you had read my original reply, please ignore them. The reason of the revert is that IP editor should not have copied the Chronology subsection from Company rule in India to East India Company without attribution per WP:CWW and also the copied content in my view is not appropriate in the section that the IP editor had placed into it. Thanks --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 00:55, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
Hi,
Thanks for taking the time and explaining your reasoning. I apologize for getting confused and not noticing the time partition. the article's feels odd with sudden mentions of post 1757 giving the odd feeling that something is missing in the timeline. . What is your opinion about 2 suggestions I have to prevent others from repeating my mistakes:
Remove the Disestablishment section and reduce other mentions of company rule: eg. the summary prominently includes it.
Make the article title East India Company prior to 1757 or similar to prevent confusion.
Or, if you want I can start a discussion in the talk page for the article related to the above points.
Have a good day. Vinay84 (talk) 11:50, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
@Vinay84, I suggest you bring it to the talkpage and since like Fowler&fowler is one of the few main editors for the page, do engage him over there. I have very little in editing the 2 articles so I have no comments or suggestions as I was on an anti-vandalism watch. Thanks --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 00:53, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Question.

Hi ,I did not edit the NUS page before so I don't get "the vandalism". May I know when did the so called vandalism occured? Also what vandal was found on the page? Thank you 122.11.212.120 (talk) 04:16, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

@122.11.212.120: As you do not have a Wikipedia account, you are directly editing with your IP address as your identity. As the IP address can be shared, it could be a previous IP editor, who happened to be assigned the same IP address then, who did the vandalism on NUS High School of Math and Science. As you claimed that you are not the person, there is nothing to worry about so you can continue to read or edit Wikipedia without any issues. At the bottom of the notice, there is also a note there citing "If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices." Hi there, you can actually create a better article via Wikipedia:Articles for creation or request over at Wikipedia:Requested articles to get an article written. If you have a conflict of interest with the company, I would strongly suggest either routes to get an article up. Thanks -- Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 05:38, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

New Page Reviewing

Hello, Justanothersgwikieditor.

I've seen you editing recently and you seem like an experienced Wikipedia editor.
Would you please consider applying to become a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. Thanks. – robertsky (talk) 07:24, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

michelin stars

Hey, Justanothersgwikieditor! At Special:Diff/1090077660 you said the two Michelin stars were enough to support notability for a restaurant -- can you point me at that discussion or policy? I've been wondering about that for a while and hadn't been able to find it. valereee (talk) 13:49, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

@Valereee: Hi, I removed the notability tag based on the restaurant having michelin stars which is actually not in notability guidelines or discussion. It is based mainly on GNG as Michelin starred restaurant typically have enough main stream coverage in local news and other media. Personally I am treating it as similar to WP:NOLYMPICS, as a Michelin Star does attract significant coverage for any food establishment. If you find that my reasoning is not acceptable, I am fine with retagging the article back with notability issue. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 01:56, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
I generally feel like Michelin stars -- especially once you get to two or three -- generally are an indicator that the coverage should be out there if we can just find it. I was just hoping there was something definitive in policy or discussion that indicated that.
The reason I asked is that, just like with Saint Pierre, I'm looking at another SG restaurant currently at AfC which does have two Michelin stars, but the only coverage is reviews in SG media. For me it's like a review of a NYC restaurant in the NYT. Yes, the NYT is a national paper, but that doesn't mean every NYC-area restaurant it reviews is notable. When newspapers in other cities do a review of a NYC restaurant, I consider that supports notability. So I'm thinking wouldn't we expect to see something in the press of other nearby countries? valereee (talk) 11:59, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
@Valereee: I understand the situation as you can see that I am a fairly new NPPer also and I faced similar questions. While your comparison using a New York restaurant having reviews from other states, as Singapore is a city state, there is no similar comparisons available. While the suggestion would be neighbouring countries reviewing the restaurant, considering a Michelin star is a prestigious award, generally other countries (especially when said countries have culinary feuds with Singapore) would not have reviews for a Singaporean restaurant.
If we can agree that Michelin star (especially two or three starred) is a prestigious award, perhaps we can view it as WP:ANYBIO where 1. The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor, or has been nominated for such an award several times where we substitute person with food establishment, it would pass notability. Of course this is my suggestion, it is not a policy or guideline, and hence this is my personal view. In fact, I think this is what I actually had in mind when I deemed Saint Pierre as notable. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 13:17, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
To add on, I just did a quick search on Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink's talkpage archive and my quick 10 minutes research concludes with this note and we should simply treat Michelin Guide (hence stars) as just one reliable source to be counted towards GNG. Personally, I will review Saint Pierre (restaurant) again for GNG. For Draft:Shoukouwa, personally I will accept once I checked that the online and offline sources are non trivial coverage of the restaurant. If you need help checking the offline sources, I can get a pdf version of the offline Singapore's media sources (The Straits Times and The Business Times) and email to you for your review. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 13:55, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
I trust your assessment! If the creator had been as experienced as you, I would have AGF'd those offline sources! :D valereee (talk) 14:35, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
And LOLing on the culinary feuds! Yes, I've had a long-term relationship with Hainanese Chicken Rice due to one such feud. :D valereee (talk) 14:36, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
@Valereee: The editor is fairly new but his works are alright. Just that his articles tends to be borderline on GNG and his AFD arguments are not very strong. Do let me check on the offline sources tomorrow (GMT +8 for me so its almost 11pm for me) before you accept his submission. I had to research and expand on Yusheng to stop another food war! New page reviewer granted

Hi Justanothersgwikieditor. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 07:46, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

Inquiry on GRA article

Given the reconstitution of the Casino Regulatory Authority to cover all gambling activity, should a new article be created or should the article be renamed? Thanks. TheGreatSG'rean (talk) 02:52, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

@TheGreatSG'rean: A new article will be better as the scope of CRA is casinos only, while GRA covers gambling in Singapore. It is basically using the existing structure of CRA to become the GRA. While not specifically mentioned, Gaming Regulatory Unit (GRU), is also merged into GRA (while not explicitly written, GRA is the only regulatory body from now on and GRU directory in SG gov listing seems to be gone). Singapore Totaliser Board should be merged into GRA as well (assuming the same fate as GRU). Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 02:55, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
@Justanothersgwikieditor: At this point, Tote Board isn't merged, it still exists as a separate entity just like SG Pools, both under MOF. TheGreatSG'rean (talk) 03:01, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
@TheGreatSG'rean: Singapore Pools is a fully owned company under Tote Board but based on wordings, it is going to be a single regulatory body aka GRA. Since it is unclear with no mentions in article and MHA's press release and Gambling in Singapore never mentioned it, we can leave out the information until we have confirmed sources. Personally I think Tote Board is not merged in since it will require a change of SG Pools' ownership. The only thing bugging me is the lack of mention of Tote board in the article but I come around to it maybe later but feel free to update it if you like to. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:09, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
I checked the government directory and Tote Board is still there as a stat board under MOF so yeah. Anyway it is not a regulatory authority, its basically just to manage SG Pools, turf club etc so it should not be merged in. Thanks for the information as I did not know Tote Board is under MOF! Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:20, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
@Justanothersgwikieditor: Thanks for the tips! I'll make sure the necessary steps are followed, with a GRA article to be created soon. TheGreatSG'rean (talk) 03:32, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

@Justanothersgwikieditor I am NelsonLee20042020, the creator of Nazeri Lajim. I am here to thank you about earlier when you spoke up against SecretSquirrel78 in the talk page. To be honest, I have encountered several unpleasant comments from him (or is it a her?) for my creation of some of the executed drug traffickers (Norasharee Gous, Kalwant Singh Jogindar Singh, Nazeri Lajim and Abdul Rahim Shapiee). He even accused me of being an anti-death penalty activist when it is clearly untrue (i am an absolute supporter of capital punishment actually), and i am just a normal youngster who only wanted to edit my topics of interest (including kpop) in wikipedia.

i tried to mediate with him to clear up the misconceptions but he had not replied or apologised. i do not wish to argue with him as it may make things worse. i do respect and understand other people's opinions even if they were different from mine, but in this case, it feels not right.

thank you for helping me anyway, hope you can have a good time editing. --NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 03:58, 11 August 2022 (UTC)

@NelsonLee20042020 No worries. I have been following the AFDs partially as they are good indicators oh which articles are acceptable or not. We learn about conflict management here in wiki as well but do remember we can also walk away from arguments or differences in opinions. I would have ignore the talkpage message except that I saw the borderline personal attacks and with his previous AFD's behaviour, I have to call it out as it is. You have improved a lot as mentioned before so keep it up. Have a good day too! Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 04:48, 11 August 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello Justanothersgwikieditor,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here.   Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 11598 articles, as of 22:00, 4 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

@Primefac As per your edit summary for the list article, there is nothing much left since the main purpose of the article is all revdel-ed, deleting the article would be correct? Will love to hear your rationale. Anyway I came to the list from the second season and had removed the copyvio there. Will check on the other two seasons. Will ping you, tag or just ask for specific revdel. Thanks. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 13:02, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
I cleaned up the copyvio that I noticed in the 3 separate articles already. Should be copyvio free. Based on my experience on copyvio revdel, I am not asking for them as likely to be rejected. As per my first comment above, I am just wondering about the fate of the list article though. Thanks. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 02:44, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
I was on the fence about deletion, mainly because there is still info about the series on the page. If that information is duplicated (or easily replicated) on other pages, e.g. The Journey (TV series), then converting the list into a redirect probably wouldn't be the end of the world. I declined the G12 because I thought the table would still be useful, but I removed it when I realised it was giving little more than the show dates (since the episode names were just "Episode #"). NPP message

Hi Justanothersgwikieditor,

Invitation

For those who may have missed it in our last newsletter, here's a quick reminder to see the letter we have drafted, and if you support it, do please go ahead and sign it. If you already signed, thanks. Also, if you haven't noticed, the backlog has been trending up lately; all reviews are greatly appreciated.

Arrangement

Excuse me, then what about the other articles like The Little Nyonya and The Dream Makers 2. They have casts in boxes. What I'm doing just now is arranging to the likes of these articles. Manwë986 (talk) 03:04, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

@Manwë986: They have to be converted eventually. I can do it fast or slow. The fast way, I delete all the cast listing since it is an unsourced section. The slow way is to convert to a list like what I am doing, this is not exactly the easiest way. I understand you like to improve the articles but please find sources like on NewspaperSG, its free for all, or other sources. If the cast or production team has any comments about the roles, we can use these information and add on. I like to use English TV series such as The Flash's cast and characters section as a reference for formatting. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:13, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
We can use MOS:FILMCAST as a guideline as well. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:14, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
Ok. I mean the information within the cast listing you delete are based on what we watched on the drama like in YouTube and meWatch.--Manwë986 (talk) 03:19, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
They are basically original research since there are no references hence I am deleting them and keep the cast. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:23, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

Oh, wand when you clean up the award section, you removed some Chinese words.--Manwë986 (talk) 03:21, 26 August 2022 (UTC) And what about the Chinese words at award section? You removed some of them.--Manwë986 (talk) 03:25, 26 August 2022 (UTC) Hello? And how do I remove notifications?--Manwë986 (talk) 03:29, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

WP:CHINESECHARACTERS cites To help establish a simple and clean appearance, if a term is Wikified and has an article, do not provide characters or romanization again. hence I removed the chinese characters if there are blue links for the English name. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:33, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

But there are some more Chinese words left at the award section. You may want to remove them.--Manwë986 (talk) 03:41, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

I left some Chinese characters there as I am not sure do I want to translate them into English. If there is no official translation, it is fine to keep them as it is. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:49, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

Hello, please respond. And one more thing: How do I delete alerts and notifications? Please answer this question too.--Manwë986 (talk) 03:47, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

This link should work for you also, unselect the ones you do not wish to be notified. If not, click on Preferences on top right of the page and select the Notifications tab on the top row. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:52, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

I mean the Chinese names of actors and actresses. You removed some of them, but there are some of them left. I think you may want to remove them. I want to delete all the junks under notifications and alerts, not to receive them. The old junks from 2 years ago are still present, I can still see them.--Manwë986 (talk) 04:04, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

Maybe I had missed them but I will get to them eventually hopefully. I assume you are referring to your talkpage message. For this, you have to find an administrator (see Category:Wikipedia administrators for list of administrators and maybe choose one?) and ask them for assistance. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 04:10, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

I mean the bell shaped thing, where the alerts are. It's located at the right side of username.--Manwë986 (talk) 04:24, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

That will be the link I given earlier or click on Preferences on top right of the page and select the Notifications tab on the top row. Select or in your case, unselect (all?) the options there. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 04:28, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
@Manwë986 If you are talking about past notifications received which you see after clicking on the notification icon (bell icon) beside your username, I do not think they can be removed. Perhaps Drmies can provide an answer. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 08:08, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
I assumed that "junks under notifications and alerts" simply meant talk page messages. Drmies (talk) 14:19, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

Revert on Glints (platform) page

Hey there! Thanks for reviewing my edits. I understand WP:COI and have been an active Wikipedia editor before. My intent is to populate the rest of the Products and Services section with secondary sources, but you removed it before I could do just that :/ Without that section, the top part of the article is actually factually incomplete as of today. I have also followed Google#Products_and_services pretty closely in terms to ensure WP:NPOV is adhered to.

Let me know if it's okay to restore the section with appropriate citations to secondary sources; I can also use a {{request edit}} template. Have a good day!

Yjwong (talk) 02:59, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

@Yjwong: If you truly understand WP:COI, you would not have asked me this question. If you like to make changes, please use {{request edit}}. Thanks. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:03, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
Will do just that, thanks.
WP:COI says, I quote, that "you may propose changes on talk pages (by using the {{request edit}} template), or by posting a note at the COI noticeboard, so that they can be peer reviewed". This is different from must or should, as is applied for WP:NPOV.
Although you don't have to, I hope you can be nicer about your response. I appreciate your time spent doing voluntary work and I try my best to educate my company and team about Wikipedia's editing policies, so that everyone can benefit from a good encyclopedia. Yjwong (talk) 04:05, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
@Yjwong : You proclaimed to understand WP:COI but you did not disclose your COI until I templated you.
From WP:COI, which you selectively chose a point,
Editors with a COI should follow Wikipedia policies and best practices scrupulously:
  • you should disclose your COI when involved with affected articles;
  • you are strongly discouraged from editing affected articles directly;
  • you may propose changes on talk pages (by using the {{request edit}} template), or by posting a note at the COI noticeboard, so that they can be peer reviewed;
If you really understand WP:COI, you do not have to ask me if it's okay to restore the section with appropriate citations to secondary sources as the guidelines already strongly discouraged from editing affected articles directly and you may propose changes on talk pages.
I said "If you like to make changes, please use {{request edit}}" and did not say you cannot edit the article directly. Since you believe that This is different from must or should, as is applied for WP:NPOV, you can continue to edit the article directly and not using {{request edit}}. Do not merge cells

Hello, kindly read WP guidelines on layout again and do not merge cells as it will greatly affect the reading experience of users who are using screen readers. Will appreciate you not doing further reverts again. Thanks.Treysand (talk) 09:27, 19 September 2022 (UTC)

@Treysand Thank you for finally replying. Can you tell me where specifically on MOS:ACCESS, or other guidelines, is this being said? It will help a lot on understanding the issue. Thanks! Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 09:36, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
You might want to read up WP:DTT, in particular this section, which are some guidelines on table styling. Treysand (talk) 09:43, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
@Treysand: There is nothing specifically on merging cells and there are examples with merged cells listed as good examples. Can you specifically point out which section in the WP:DTT that say merged cells are not to be used? Thanks. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 09:47, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
As I have pointed out earlier in my reply, see this section in particular "Avoiding nested data tables". I will not be replying to this issue further as the guidelines has clearly stated so. Thus, adhere to layout guidelines and do not mess up any filmography tables. If you need examples, you might want to refer to featured articles such as this for the standard article layout for actors. Thanks. Treysand (talk) 09:58, 19 September 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello Justanothersgwikieditor,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.

New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:35, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Jaynesh Isuran

Please do not add superfluous space between the infobox categories and their data. When editing, it is easier to see which categories and data are paired when they appear near each other. Jellysandwich0 (talk) 02:35, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

@Jellysandwich0 The spacing is added by Visual Editor and not manually added by me or other editors. If you believe this is an issue, you probably has to take it up with the technical team instead. Thanks Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 02:58, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
In response to your statement "you probably has (sic) to take it up with the technical team", that is unnecessary, the space can easily be removed by any editor. Jellysandwich0 (talk) 03:27, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
@Jellysandwich0 I am working in VE and not in source editor. I am not going to edit in VE then switch over to source editor to remove the extra spaces added by VE. This is a technical issue created by VE, not me. I am fine with what VE produced. If you are not comfortable with what VE created, you have to take it up with VE, not me. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:43, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
That is logical. I almost always use source editing and know little about about visual editing. Thank you for explaining that. Jellysandwich0 (talk) 03:51, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of List of Tanglin episodes (Episodes 509–824)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on List of Tanglin episodes (Episodes 509–824) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.mewatch.sg/season/Tanglin-30669. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Darylgolden(talk) Ping when replying 01:12, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

Hyacintha Dabney

It would have been a lot easier had you blocked or reported Hyacintha Dabney as a vandal back when you noticed what it was up to. Now a massive rollback is needed! MurrayGreshler (talk) 08:22, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

@MurrayGreshler I was AGFing reverting for that few articles I happened to be monitoring. When I noticed what is happening, the edits had already stopped. Apparently, vandal is WP:FOLLOWING you and reverting all your changes. I guess this is due to some issues between another editor and you and that editor had created a sock account just to do this. If you have rollback rights which I do not have, there is a Mass Rollback script that can rollback all the changes vandal had done. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 08:49, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

Hello Justanothersgwikieditor,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

  • There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
  • Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
  • Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
  • This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
  • To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

DYK for Dawn Gan

On 6 August 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Dawn Gan, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Singaporean singer Dawn Gan played herself in a television drama about aspiring singers? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Dawn Gan. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Dawn Gan), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Star Awards 2023

Hello. Some of your recent genre changes, such as the one you made to Star Awards 2023, have conflicted with our neutral point of view and/or verifiability policies. While we invite all users to contribute constructively to Wikipedia, we urge all editors to provide reliable sources for edits made. When others disagree, we recommend you seek consensus for certain edits by discussing the matter on the article's talk page. Hi, as I notices you had made changes with a few of chinese characters dissappeared and a few are appearing. Please do not change those text and remain, you may add some information to the article but please maintain, Thank you. (Unknown152438 (talk) 18:56, 20 April 2023 (UTC))

Page moves

Hello, Justanothersgwikieditor,

Please be more thoughtful with page moves. There is no reason to do multiple page moves to different titles which is clearly a mistake in editing. Each page move creates a redirect and there is no reason to have a lot of incorrect redirects pointing to an article page. There should be a very good reason to move an article to a different title and be sure of where the article should be moved before moving it. And if you make a misspelling or an incorrect page title, please tag it for speedy deletion. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 06:39, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

@Liz Sorry for the multiple page moves as it involves name changes (for the awards I am updating) and I thought I copied the correct name for the intended destination. I will be more careful on this and will tag for speedy deletion if it happens again. Thanks for the information and reminder! Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 06:43, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023

Hello Justanothersgwikieditor,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Singapore Mint article

Hi, what needs to be done for me to expand the history of Singapore Mint? I've put the text through Copyvio and provided citations. Would appreciate your guidance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xiawiki65 (talkcontribs) 08:55, 22 May 2023 (UTC)

@Xiawiki65, thanks for approaching me to discuss the issue. As per the copyright notice had written, read and understand the history and then write in your own words. While historical facts are harder to rephrase or written in your own words, it is possible to do so. You can take a look at Royal Mint or any other well written articles about organisation and see how they phrase things. Directly lifting sentences from other articles will fail the copyright check. For the second addition, I am not sure if the site lifts from Wikipedia itself or you had copied from it. I am not sure how you did the copyvio check as Earwig copyvio tool tags the added text as directly lifted from the website. Providing the source does not exempt the copied text from copyright violations. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 13:46, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. When I ran my 2nd revision into copyvio, the results showed that violation was unlikely. I had to edit the 2nd paragraph of the page, which was not part of my original addition, to get this result. Now, after all the undoing the revisions, the 2nd paragraph (which was not put in by me) continues to flag 44.2% possible violation by copyvio. Shouldn't this copyright-failing text also be undone for the moderation to be consistent? Xiawiki65 (talk) 02:09, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
@Xiawiki65 Thanks for pointing out my mistake also as the current copyvio is due to a past edit and not by you. So the reply might not fully apply to you but nonetheless I am glad you understand what I am trying to get through. Let me fix the copyvio, Nthep might be unhappy that the revdel has to be done again (oh well~). I am rather busy today but I try to write more for Singapore Mint also.   Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page Crime in Singapore, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

Please do not change the articles format created by other wiki user. If you want to do so, please create the articles before other wiki user create it, don't always use other wiki user articles and put the reason cleanup and earn your credits. This is a bad behaviour. Happygirl1976 (talk) 06:47, 7 May 2023 (UTC)

@Happygirl1976 Hi, if you want to retract your statement, please retract it and explain it in your edit summary. Note that this is my talkpage, I have the rights to remove or restore messages on my talkpage.
First off, you are exhibiting traits of WP:OWN, please note that this is a collaborative effort, nobody owns any article. If an article's format is wrong or do not follow general norms (please note that English Wikipedia's standards and guidelines are different from Chinese Wikipedia), any editor is able to fix or change it accordingly. If there is a content dispute, please discuss it.
Also, Lim Zhi Hang introduced original research with no sources which any editors can remove at any time. If any editor wishes to restore it, the editor needs to provide references for the content added. Said editor failed to provide any sources and the original research is likely to be based on personal viewing of the TV series or copying from Chinese Wikipedia. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 01:40, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
@Happygirl1976 As noted above and also WP:USERTALKSTOP, I am giving you the opportunity to explain yourself and discuss any issues. Please do not remove it. If you want to remove it, please note why in the edit summary. Thanks. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 10:11, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023

Hello Justanothersgwikieditor,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Liminal (company) Article PROD message

Hi Justanothersgwikieditor, I have seen that you have checked my article & added PROD message as promotional content. Can you please address what went incorrect? so that I can be more careful & remove it immediately. I am suspecting

  • surpassed with ₹240 billion (US$3.0 billion) in transactions
  • CryptoCurrency Security Standard (CCSS)
  • TCSP (Trust or Company Service Provider)

VKG1985 (Talk | E-Mail | Contrib) 15:17, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

@VKG1985, I added the tag that the article sounds like an advertisement and did not propose it for deletion (WP:PROD) which you indicated I have. Considering that you have created various articles on companies that barely looks more than an advertisement, I have to ask you, are you a paid editor employed to write up Wikipedia articles for companies. It does not matter you are a freelancer or working for a company doing that, if you are, you are a paid editor. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 01:53, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
Justanothersgwikieditor, I am wondering that even as a Wikipedian for a few years, I am still getting advertising messages is my worry. It is the first time that I have asked a direct question about advertisement. And in return, the same repeated message was received. Please check my talk page if you don't believe it. I have proved it many times. VKG1985 (Talk | E-Mail | Contrib) 05:52, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
@VKG1985 Perhaps submitting the article via AFC instead of moving it to mainspace directly will give you better results. AFC reviewers can give better answers than I. Also, most of your edits are fixing prose/layout (based on your edit summaries) which probably does not give you much experience in understanding notability standards.
If you cannot differentiate between a PROD and an advertisement notice, I am afraid it is not going to be easy moving forward. For the article Liminal (company), every single line is either launch something, partner with someone, announce something, there is nothing to indicate its notability and sounds like advertising what the company has or doing. I have updated the maintenance tag which you can click on them and take a look to understand more. Teahouse can give you some advise as well. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 06:52, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
Thanks a lot Justanothersgwikieditor for guiding & helping me.
  • AFC - DreamFolks article was in AFC for more than 4 months. Therefore, in the end, I made it live from draft space.
  • Layout - Yes, definitely will work on my English & content
  • I do understand on the notability front, however, I think it is before of layout that I might get stuck with it.
  • I do understand the difference between a PROD and an advertisement notice
  • Thanks for Teahouse as suggestions. I definitely take help from them for further development.

New pages patrol newsletter

Hello Justanothersgwikieditor,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

Edit reversion on 2008-09 Volvo Ocean Race

Hey, wondering why you reverted my edit on this article - Galway being the best port appeared to be an entirely subjective opinion only expressed by one person. Galway expecting to compete for a stopover at the next was also completely out of date info dating back to 2009 - perhaps I should have updated the info instead but would appreciate clarification as I am a new user learning the ropes Lascreaturas (talk) 20:26, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

@Lascreaturas Hi there, sorry for the late reply as I missed it. Do add the latest comment at the bottom instead of the top in chronological order.
An opinion can be on the article as long it is properly attributed and relevant. The opinion was made by a sailor on one of the team competing in the race which made it relevant the principal race officer of the race which make it highly relevant. The sentence definitely need more copyediting to reflect that.
Your edit summary mentioned out of date info, by your definition, Wikipedia holds a lot of out of date information. The article is out of date since it is talking about a 15 year old race... We do not remove information just because it is old else 99.9% of Wikipedia will be removed.
I hope you can understand the rationale behind the decision to revert your removal of information. ~ JASWE (talk) 02:31, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Justanothersgwikieditor,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
