December 2018 edit

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Loud Luxury. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continual disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. See WP:BRD and don't restore your content again. We maintain a maximum of 10 columns on discographies. Ss112 22:38, 2 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry that you seem to be unaware of how Wikipedia works. Your edits were disruptive because you restored content after being reverted and disregarded WP:BRD. That can be seen as unconstructive because you're not following the accepted practice of bold, revert, discuss (that means the editor wanting the change should seek consensus for their changes on the article talk page after they are disagreed with, not the reverting editor's talk page). So I will continue to characterise your edits in that manner if that's the way you want to carry on, thanks very much. I am "insisting" on a maximum of 10 columns because that's the way the article was before you edited it and you're insisting on adding more, which squashes the text to the point of illegibility and widens the page beyond its ordinary limit for some—that's why there's a recommendation and a widely observed standard for 10 columns. You are disregarding that standard (probably because of ignorance in regards to discography article/section conventions) and writing it off as a "recommendation" because you want to include more. Well, open a discussion at Talk:Loud Luxury instead of complaining at me for reverting you. Also, stop opening new discussions on my talk page. How have you been on Wikipedia for years and you still don't understand to reply on your own talk page when somebody opens a discussion there, and to sign your own messages? If you post at my talk page again, you'll be reverted for not following accepted practice. Go to the article talk page instead of bothering me again. Thanks. Ss112 02:52, 3 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Sorry to intrude, but I caught the tail end of the discussion on IRC and was interested in finding the answer. One place to find the limit of 10 columns is at {{Singles discography/doc}} where it's described as a "current maximum". The fact that the Loud Luxury page is building the table without the benefit of the corresponding template is not license to exceed the limit. The other page you were referring to where the 10-column limit is a "suggested limit" is a dormant proposal, so does not carry much policy weight. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 04:01, 3 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Spelling in links edit

Hello, I don't know if you're using a program or what, but fixing spelling in the mainspace of Wikipedia is a good and useful contribution, but do not "fix" the spelling of outbound links, such as those used in references, without first considering whether the wrong spelling is the correct link, as you did at Hart Island (Bronx), which was "fixed" to a file not found page from this "broken" actual City Record PDF.   Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing →   Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! JesseRafe (talk) 14:14, 12 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Poor English edit

Hi. First, I would like to say thank you for you corrections on Zenica article. I just got irritated by your edit summary "poor English" which you repeated twice. You don't have to depreciate one's contribs that way and I don't think it is poor English but only have some CE mistakes I missed (like not having the, a or missing one double letter); I am not a native English speaker but I gave all my efforts to have correct grammar when edit got published (I read article twice before publishing it, correcting some spelling and grammar errors, and there was plenty of them in the first version). If there are more spelling or grammar mistakes, I am calling you really to correct them, I don't get bothered by others peddling/pottering or how you say my work but get bothered by direct unduly insults however. --Obsuser (talk) 13:59, 26 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

February 2020 edit

Hello, I'm Dey subrata. I noticed that you recently made an edit to Gargi College molestations in which your edit summary did not appear to describe the change you made. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks.

I want to thank for your effort at the article but I also want to give a soft warning about what you mention in your edit summaries. I have gone through your talk page, there are several cases when you have used "poor" and "awkward" english. Please refrain from such edit summaries, as is one of WP:SUMMARYNO and better mention "copyediting". Mind that wikipedia is not only for people of native English speaker, the changes that you make in various articles are also from countries where English is not the first language. I hope and wish that from now on you will change your behaviour in edit summaries. Dey subrata (talk) 05:17, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use the sandbox for that. Thank you.

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Gargi College molestations; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.

Your edits do not seem appealing to me, first you have removed an important link without explanation and added the tags which are removed as the article does not need any more. The article in its present status does not need that tag and again the article is about current issue, better to add tag in future if needed. And please refrain from edit war, as it has been reverted twice. 1 and 2. Dey subrata (talk) 04:36, 18 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Rude buggery edit

When last I looked (quite recently thanks to you) there were over 38,000,000 registered contributors to “English”-language Wikipedia, mostly from the US and the UK. “Over 30,000 ” contribute more than 5 edits per month which is slightly below one in a thousand. It a vanishingly small and dismal proportion. Wikipedia is an unfinished project created by volunteers. Over the next few months, that high-profile virus is likely to bring an increase in the numbers of new volunteers. Despite eye-watering ambitions claimed for it at launch there is still much to be done both in terms of scope and in terms of quality. You contribute to addressing that which is great. But.

I have no objection to your correcting my typoes before I get to do it for myself. That’s helpful. Almost every wikipedia entry is a work in progress and some progress is self-evidently more urgent (if not necessarily more important) than ... the other stuff

I am more conflicted over your syntax modifications. Some of them look to me like useful improvements. Some of them look significantly worse than what went before. And some of them – most of them – look to me like changes that do no significant damage, but which bring no significant improvement. And I freely accept that this is one of those cases where “two opinions are (or should be) better than one”. Something I do appreciate is that by and large you appear to have taken trouble to familiarise yourself with the context sufficiently ‘’not’’ to introduce significant distortions to the meaning. Not all our wiki-comrades manage that. (Or maybe they simply don’t have the time and / or whatever else it takes.) And although you don’t wait till I’ve finished, you do (usually) manage your timing so as to avoid actual edit conflicts, which waste everyone's time. I appreciate that too.

Most of the (very small proportion of) people who contribute usefully to Wikipedia tend to disappear without trace over time. Maybe they get a day job. Maybe they die. Maybe the two were not mutually exclusive. But when people do take the trouble to explain why they gave up on Wikipedia, they far too frequently cite the aggressiveness and / or rudeness and / or a breath-taking absence of empathy on the part of fellow contributors. It’s a pity, to put it mildly. And a terrible terrible waste.

I do not know how your edits and your summaries summaries look to you. To me they too often look gratuitously rude. They look as though you want me to know that you are one hell of a smart guy or gal and that everyone else is very stupid. If it's true, then you really should try and be smart enough to work on your self-knowledge a bit more. Having taken time (?wasted time) to look at your edit record, I find I am not the first to have come to this conclusion. Frankly, it all tells me more about you than I (or you) should wish for me to know or believe. If you have anger or aggression to offload – and most of us do – please could you do it somewhere else? I freely admit that here I am asking you to “do as I say (write) and not as I (necessarily always) do”. You’re clearly intelligent and competent to write decent English. And you have time for Wikipedia. That’s a depressingly rare combination. Maybe you could spend a little more of your valuable wiki-time (absolutely NO irony intended) on creating new entries and a little less time pissing off the folks who already do that. I refer to the hectoring style of the approach and narratives that too often accompany your contributions. Don’t give up on “improving” other folks’ contributions if that's what you like to do. But maybe a little more balance and a little more empathy might be called for here?

Under that aggression you may well be a sensitive flower like the rest of us. Please try and strip out any feelings of anger or resentment that I raise up from the surface layers of your inner your soul by my sharing my reactions here. I don’t ask you to agree with everything I write. (I’d most likely be amazed and appalled if you did: probably next week I’ll see stuff a bit differently myself.) But please think on it. And thank you.

Success Charles01 (talk) 16:40, 21 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

You inserted a melodramatic as well as quite long message on my talk page. Mentioned were "Maybe they get a day job. Maybe they die. Maybe the two were not mutually exclusive.", "aggressiveness", "rudeness", "a breathtaking absence of empathy", "gratuitously rude", "work on your self-knowledge", "pissing off folks", "hectoring style of the approach and narratives", and "feelings of anger or resentment that I raise up from the surface layers of your inner your (sic) soul". Please reflect on this.

At Wikipedia a certain level of quality is expected in contributions, corrections are made when this is absent, and explanations of edits are made and expected.jellysandwich0 17:24, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

You can make the case that some of what I wrote to you earlier today was rude. If you think that is the case, then I have succeeded in communicating something of value to you. Thank you. But be assured that I intend you no gratuitous discourtesy. And I apologise if or where you nevertheless choose to infer just that.

Also, you deserve a serious reply to your criticisms of my contributions:

I live in England where the infrastructure is pretty basic. When I upload an edit to wikipedia the internet frequently cuts out. Sometimes I lose stuff, though over the years I am getting better at avoiding that. Neverthelss (sic), I have returned to tha (sic) habit I originally acuired (sic) for equivalent reasons with my first Apple Mac bnack (sic) in the 1980s. Save often, so that if the thing screws up you don't lose too much work.

So although I do indeed check my contributions very carefully in the preview window before uploading stuff, sometimes I am called away or otherwise rush off Sometimes I simply fail to notice things. I am, as it happens, more interested in meaning and word order than in the simple spelling errors that can be picked up all together after a couple of days.

You have different priorities. That's fine. Your (sic) right. You may have a reliable internet connection. You are to be envied.

I still think you need to work on your empathy.

Did that help? Hope so.

Best wishes Charles01 (talk) 17:56, 21 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

A large number of edit

Hi, you seem to be making a lot of edits replacing the phrase "a large number of" with "many". Yeah, this is sometimes an improvement, but at least occasionally the other one will be better, and I don't see why they should be changed like that across the board. What is it that I'm missing? – Uanfala (talk) 12:57, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

It is not my intent to switch to "many" every in every instance. But the longer version is often needlessly used. Extra words without extra meaning are a flaw. If you feel the previous way was better, restore it. An explanation in the edit summary will help me fine-tune my approach. Thank you for the feedback.jellysandwich0 13:15, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

I apologise for changing the phrasing in "Zemiaki language" twice. This was due to not knowing the edit had been reverted.jellysandwich0 13:36, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

No problem, this happens. Generally, there might be a variety of reasons why the longer phrase might have been chosen in each instance. I suspect the choice will often have to do with rhythm (sounds better when read out loud). In some cases I would use "a large number of" because it seems to foreground that piece of information, and – on account of its sheer length – it confers a somewhat greater salience to it. – Uanfala (talk) 13:51, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
In the past, some of my edits were reverted in articles regarding mathematics and statistics. Surprisingly, there is a small but relevant difference in meaning between "many" and "a large number of", making only one appropriate. I agree that in certain sentences one sounds better than the other, a real curiosity. Perhaps a linguist would say that language is not completely governed by logic.jellysandwich0 14:08, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button   located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Contacted by sockpuppet edit

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that the account that recently contacted you, The String 20, is a confirmed sockpuppet of User:Showbiz826, who had been blocked for edit warring and block evasion. Due to various page protections and IP blocks, Showbiz826 is unable to make edits themselves on many articles. Instead, they have made several sockpuppets which they use to try to pester other users into implementing their desired edits (see Caliphates 727, Dk Lillee 1949 and Ennis1849 among others). It is therefore likely that they will contact you again in the guise of a new account. I'll leave it up to you how you decide to deal with this, though I personally believe it is best to just ignore such messages. I hope you find this message useful.

"Lots of" edit

Hi JSO, can you please point me to the Wikipedia guidance that deprecates the phrase "lots of"? Bermicourt (talk) 07:50, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

I replace it with many or much if they sound better. Why use two words when one suffices? Jellysandwich0 (talk) 14:17, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

That's fine, but it's basically subjective. And two words may sound better or more natural or just add more information; it depends entirely on the context. Why change words that are perfectly acceptable? Bermicourt (talk) 15:35, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
"Lots of" only sometimes sounds better and rarely if ever conveys more information. The single word often sounds better and if they are equivalent, why use two words instead of one? Jellysandwich0 (talk) 15:45, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
That is sometimes true, but not always, so we shouldn't be mass changing words based on what is essentially a personal opinion. Bermicourt (talk) 08:11, 6 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
This is to warn you that this kind of editing without even an edit summary cannot be tolerated. Wikipedia works by rules and you continue to defiantly break them. It's probably time to suggest to administrators that your behavior is verging on WP:VANDALISM. Sweetpool50 (talk) 02:28, 8 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
I can write summaries. What "rules" do you believe I am "defiantly" breaking? I believe that my edits are constructive and improve articles and do not consider them to be vandalism and am unaware of any rules being broken. Please explain to me why you feel this is vandalism (as well as inform me of these "rules"). Jellysandwich0 (talk) 02:45, 8 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
WP:FIES. Persisting in not giving a valid summary as you have been doing counts as disruption. Pretending not to understand as you have been doing above counts as WP:WIKILAWYERING and is a sure sign of a vandal. Sweetpool50 (talk) 03:15, 8 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
I am not pretending. We have already addressed the issue of summaries, so stop wallowing in the issue. Again, please let me know which "rules" you are writing about. And, again, please identify which edit or edits "is verging on vandalism". I have addressed your concerns, so please be constructive and answer my questions. Jellysandwich0 (talk) 03:33, 8 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
The issue here is that you are persisting in making edits that are not based on Wikipedia guidelines but simply on your own WP:POV of what "sounds" like good English, despite the fact that it is clearly tendentious because other editors have challenged you. That is WP:DISRUPTIVE editing and I would ask you therefore to revert your edits except where you can achieve consensus on an individual article; otherwise you risk a ban. Your impression that you are improving articles is false. It's clear to me, as someone with a university degree in English and long experience of editing outside WP, that some of your edits have changed the meaning of what was originally written and therefore required WP:consensus. As said above, you have launched a campaign of POV edits which disrupts the encyclopedia. If you really want to be confronted by an administrator, we'll oblige you. Much of the writing in the article was of very poor quality. There were many errors in the grammar, spelling, capitalisation, punctuation, and spacing. That writing does not belong in Wikipedia. Jellysandwich0 (talk) 02:09, 27 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes you are right Although i improved the language Now and please dont remove content now i already talk to A user who will check it and currently article is on a trial.Grammar errors can be fix easily but removing Good Citations wont going to do any good for article future. Thanks for concern but in future dont remove content on that page u can improve language if u want although its unneccsary now, thanks. Reverting rather than editing edit

Hi there,

I wanted to thank you for helping to keep the Otacon article under control recently with the user who insists on repeated vandalisation. However, I'd like to ask a favour in that when changing the article (or others like it) back, you use the undo function to revert the article where possible rather than editing it. A few times a number of details have been left unreverted and needing extra changes by editing back and simply undoing the edits outright would prevent this.

Thanks again for your help in monitoring the article.

You are welcome. I will do my best to remember. Is it possible to limit editing privileges on that article to a certain level of editors? Jellysandwich0 (talk) 17:00, 31 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

The edits had very many errors in grammar, capitalisation, punctuation, spelling, spacing, and style. Wikipedia articles are written with at least a standard level of quality. Please write correctly. Jellysandwich0 (talk) 17:31, 13 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Also i Want to Inform u That on Rana Sanga article page the edits were largely from a Blocked User secondly i tried to brief the part of Conquest of Malwa but you re add a lot of chunk of data from blocked user we already provide link to Battle of Gagron Page Kindly read the battle page and try to brief the details on Main page instead adding everything And i readd Characters of May I Come In Madam avoiding bad language kindly dont revert now. Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2 edit

I liked what you did with your edit, since the plot shouldn't exceed 500 words, but maybe you could've just shortened the plot by paraphrasing and removing some sentences, instead of removing paragraphs, since they looked very important. We are the Great (talk) 16:55, 4 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Gyaru wiki - regarding Zoomgals edit

Hello,

I know that my writing in the gyaru Wikipedia article, is either too cluttered when published or has too much information. I am grateful that you are proofreading all of the text that I add to the article, which is poorly written. But the Zoomgals music group in the music section is a necessary part of information for it. Even if it is unintelligible in my writing or explaining, it might also be how you may perceive the actual music itself; either way it is information that is in principal needed to that very section. So, how would you explain it or make this paragraph about this music group understandable since as you've seen already; I am incapable of explain this without becoming it redundant. Thank you.

Gyaru wiki - Zoomgals part II edit

Hello again,

I just want to tell you I'm going to re-add the text but written differently this time. I hope you'll understand it this time or is understandable. If it is still poorly written; I would appreciate a proofreading from you. If it is as you wrote "unintelligible" again, please don't remove it fully again; I just want the text to be understandable. Yet again, thank you for your help.

Have a nice day.

Gyaru Article, the use of semicolons edit

Hello,

I must thank you, yet again for proofreading the article. I know that my use of semicolons is incorrect, unnecessary and may diminish the Wikipedia article's value. So, I must thank you once more for helping, proofreading and telling me that I should pay attention. Therefore I shall try my best to avoid doing so and learn the correct use of this punctuation. If this were to ever happen again; please just send a message or correct the obvious mistakes I am making due to my poor use of these punctuations. Thank you.

Have a nice day. P.S.: I hope the following is correct; I've used Google translate: शुक्रिया! & सप्ताहांत शुभ रहे।

Pandian Stores revert edit

Hey, I just did a pretty substantial revert on Pandian Stores [3]. Did some digging, and Mia editz 008 is a really obvious sock of Giriprasad Damodar 02. SPI filed Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Giriprasad_Damodar_02. Their edits are so poorly written and sourced that I'm way past the point of even trying to help them out when they obviously don't care much about Wikipedia. Yeh Hai Chahatein editing edit

Hi got your message on my talk page. Just wanted to clarify it with you, since have noticed you have been cutting off the plot in a way it’s hardly making any sense. However, I understand your point of plot being too long. A group of us regular viewers who watch the show joined Wikipedia to keep the plot updated as the page was extremely dry with no one updating at all. It’s a successful ongoing show, just wanted to keep the page updated. It takes time and effort to keep it updated and will do my best to keep it as short as possible since it’s an ongoing plot. Got your point, but it’s a sincere request to you since you didn’t seem to be a regular viewer of the show, to not keep changing it every three days, this was not a problem before. Will do the best to keep it as short as possible in the next edit, but please understand it’s an ongoing plot. Also new to Wikipedia, so still learning too. Hope you understand, thank you. GrottoVilla (talk) 21:27, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) @GrottoVilla please remember that the goal of the plot is to present a short summary of the major plotlines. Daily updates make it very easy for plots to get beyond the MOS:TVPLOT of no more than 500 words per season and that's not good. It's often easier to avoid those quick updates that leads to the gradual plot length creep, and focus only on the really, truly significant plot lines. I assure you, this isn't something new and happens on more than a few articles, it takes some patience and willingness to collaborate to make it work. Ravensfire (talk) 21:50, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Alright got it! Patience and willingness to collaborate is okay! Will work on making it as short as possible- what’s not okay is cutting out the entire plot to only 2-3 lines which has been happening multiple times or cutting out relevant stuff that leaves the plot not making sense. This has been happening only recently by her/him. Regular viewers are updating the page which was once dry, so to please stop reverting their edits which take time and effort to do so, that is all. GrottoVilla (talk) 14:58, 19 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@GrottoVilla that can happen when someone adds an extremely large plot section - [4]. It's frustrating for the person adding it, but also look at it from the perspective of an editor trying to steward an article and keep it at least somewhat in line with Wikipedia's WP:MOS:manual of style. Look at the plot right now for Yeh Hai Chahatein - it's over 4,000 words, not the ~500 max it should be. (as of this version, I have reverted to the prior version which is still 2400 words) That's not good. Ravensfire (talk) 18:24, 19 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please stop reverting the yeh hai chahatein edits edit

Hi you need to stop reverting the edits on the yeh hai chahatein page. Your point about the plot length being too long was understood. So a different section for list of episodes was made which the rules allow, yet you still reverted the edit. Please do not do that again. I can see from your discussion page that you do this a lot on other pages despite people requesting you not to do so. Please respect the time and effort others take so such edits. GrottoVilla (talk) 18:01, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Concern about Kudumbavilakku edit

I saw this [5] edit which you made once in Kudumbavilakku. I tagged the article and said that the article has a big plot. Should I revert the tag, and shorten the cast section as you did??? What is your opinion?? This article really has multiple issues, and the cast section also shows excessive relationship with others, so I removed some, but it is hard to remove as I don't know which relationship is important and which is excess. So would you please see the article and help me. Thanks and regards. Itcouldbepossible (talk) 08:06, 29 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Excess space edit

I welcome you proofreading my work on Robert Hooke because I know my inattention to detail that means unclosed parentheses and the like. Please continue to do so as there is quite a bit more to come. But you may not be aware that "the system" closes up excess spaces automagically (as you will see if you look at the source of this sentence). So I fix horrors like full-stop double-space when I see them, but generally don't bother.

FYI only, your call. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 17:07, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
