Sparticist uprising -- "bloody week" edit

I can't find any other source besides Schwartzwald that refer to the uprising as Bloody Week. There aren't any German hits on "blutige Woche" either, except for the Paris Commune, which is also where most of the English searches end up. I'm fairly familiar with the topic and the period through my reading and my translations from German Wikipedia articles, and I never saw any Bloody Week references while I was verifying sources and info. Because of that, I'd like to have your update reverted unless you have something else to back up the usage of the phrase. It's probably better left with the Paris Commune.

Thanks, GHStPaulMN (talk) 15:03, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

@GHStPaulMN Reichstag Bloodbath and Spartacist uprising both come to mind in case there's confusion from author/editors. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 15:16, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Shushugah Sorry, but I don't quite understand your point. What's the connection between the Reichstag Bloodbath and the Sparticist uprising -- or for that matter to referring to the latter as the Bloody Week? And how would they clear up any confusion? GHStPaulMN (talk) 15:29, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Shushugah It belatedly came to me what you mean, and I agree that there's unlikely to be confusion, but for a different reason -- that I don't think Bloody Week is at all a common way to refer to the Sparticist uprising, so it's simply not likely to come up. I still know of only the one use of the phrase, and after reading p. 288 in Schwartzwald with its rather inflammatory wording (that I would flag in Wikipedia for its tone), I have question marks in my head about how reliable a source it is. So again, unless you know of another source or sources, I don't think the update / redirect add any value and should be reverted. Your thoughts on my main point about the phrase not being common? Thanks, GHStPaulMN (talk) 22:12, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Let's move this to the article's talk page (Talk:Spartacist uprising#Bloody Week) where it will be of better use to future editors. czar 02:50, 12 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Bloody week redux edit

So have I figured this question out correctly? As part of a discussion on the use of semaine sanglante, the Révolte spartakiste de Berlin article was brought in because it has a single unsourced use of the phrase. That then led to the English Spartacist article, with the Schwartzkopf book – which isn't referenced by any other Wikipedia article – as the source for adding a bolded Bloody Week to it. That was where I stepped in as (quite possibly) the Wikipedia subject-matter expert on the Weimar Republic with the objection that one English language source and none in German isn't enough to raise Bloody Week to the level of a "synonym" for the Sparticist uprising. It simply isn't accurate and could be potentially misleading.

I plan to remove the Bloody Week reference in the Sparticist uprising article by Monday unless there's some stronger supoort for it somewhere that I don't know of. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks. GHStPaulMN (talk) 12:42, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @GHStPaulMN, the place for this discussion is on the article's talk page, for other editors' future reference. That's where I replied and where you should too. I supplied a panoply of sources in which it's known by this name. czar 15:13, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Re: Talk page length edit

Hello. It appears your talk page is becoming quite lengthy and is in need of archiving. According to Wikipedia's user talk page guidelines: "Large talk pages are difficult to read and load slowly over slow connections. As a rule of thumb, archive closed discussions when a talk page exceeds 75 KB or has multiple resolved or stale discussions." – this talk page is 499.9 KB. See Help:Archiving a talk page for instructions on how to manually archive your talk page, or to arrange for automatic archiving using a bot. If you have any questions, place a {{help me}} notice on your talk page, or go to the help desk. Thank you. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 23:59, 18 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Those are talk page guidelines, not user talk guidelines, as noted in the section itself. User talk pages are up to the user. It's also 98kB prose, not 500kB. Those points aside, yes, I intend to clean it up and yes, a short, non-templated message without those details would have been a sufficicent reminder. czar 20:22, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

  Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:Etriusus and User:Gog the Mild submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I would like to nominate the amazing Czar to be Editor of the Week. This user is a long time editor and an admin to boot!! This is to recognize their instrumental work at WikiProject Anarchism and maintenance of the associated pages. Seriously, they do so much gnomish activity the project would hit a deadlock without them. Additionally, they have over 100 GA's and is always around to help others with their own GAs, asking for no recognition of their own. I believe they're a wonderful addition to the halls of EOTW and was genuinely floored when I didn't see the name already here. Czar generates a steady flow of high-quality FAs.

Rose Street Club edit

Hi CZAR, hope you flourish! I've got a small favour to ask (hopefully only small, don't go to town on it for your own sake of course!) A few (where does the time go!) years ago, you looked favourably on this article I'd just written. Now, five years later, I'm expanding it slightly and I wondered—very presumptuously—whether you could point me to any sources on the German Communist Workers' League, from which the club stemmed. Only I can't find a mention of it on the web/ books anywhere, and I'd like to say why it stemmed from it (presumably a factional split, of course, but RS). Maybe my search engine isn't picking up German language results? Any advice or pointers would be much appreciated! Best, SN54129 22:31, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Serial Number 54129, my quick answer is that I think it's the German Communist League (Bund der Kommunisten), which was active during the period that Cole is referencing. Figuring that he just used a non-traditional name, i.e., not to be confused with the Communist Workers' League of Germany (de:Kommunistischer Arbeiterbund Deutschlands; KAPD) of the 1970s, as Cole published this book in 1941. czar 05:57, 9 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Eternal War edit

Hello,

You recently merged Eternal War into another article.

I really think you should open up a discussion publicly on what the best move would be in these situations and you should notify the user upon doing it. We don't know each other. I have no way to know whether this was done in vandalism, was done in error or was done under bad faith. You may be wrong or you may be right on the merger. A simple talk page message could explain what's going on before it happens and prevent various issues. I've seen this same situation lead to people getting into fights over here and those situations were easily preventable.

Thanks.KatoKungLee (talk) 19:41, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @KatoKungLee, you can see my edit summary in the page's edit history to know that it is not vandalism or done in bad faith. You are welcome to revert and/or initiate a discussion about it per the Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. Alternatively, you can respond to an existing discussion, if you wish: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games#New Articles (February 27 to March 5). czar 19:46, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
You are completely missing the point of their reply. You can't just do what you want and expect everybody to be okay with it. That's why they are suggesting you start opening public discussions before making random changes. If you read the linked discussion, you will see that this was far from unilateral. And even if it was, my other link explains how being bold for easily reverted actions is the norm rather than its opposite. I hope you'll take the time to read them since you're clearly interested in how Wikipedia works. czar 04:30, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Against All Authority edit

What do you mean there isn't a "policy" for keeping a list of compilation appearances? Are you going to go around to all 5,000,000 music artist pages and delete their compilation appearances as well? 2600:1700:8140:29C0:FCFF:2A6D:9D30:5446 (talk) 20:08, 13 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

It was a giant unsourced list of compilation appearances. Wikipedia does not keep that kind of content. If it was a handful of reliably sourced compilation appearances, it wouldn't be an issue. czar 04:25, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Why do you keep editing Against All Authority's page with info that is not true? What is the deal with you and Arms & Hearts being so obsessed with changing the page? The edit in which you say that the band is not ska punk anymore is entirely incorrect. That is a statement that was made in 2001 after their punk album came out. They released a ska album in 2006, and have since been performing at many ska festivals. I'm not sure where you are sourcing your info from but I know firsthand about this information, and it was fine before you (or whoever) changed it for no apparent reason. The band is a fricking ska punk band - they have 2 horn players and ~80% of their songs have ska in them. 2600:1700:8140:29C0:390C:28FE:9062:9C01 (talk) 10:29, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

The effective wiping out of Inclusive Democracy entry and the arbitrary removal of private information about a living person biography edit

The way you effectively swiftly deleted an all-encompassing entry about Inclusive Democracy, a new political and theorerical project (despite the entries issues, mainly of morphological nature, which are not restricted to this entry of course) does not offer any room for its improvement by any other editor. Its merge with Takis Fotopoulos' entry for "space" reasons or so is unjustifiable and derogatory, as the entry was self-contained, is being widely used in social science, and is not the only work between the multitudes of output of the theorist. To add insult to the injury, the deletion of private data from Fotopoulos' personal biography that is by any standard difficult to be "externally verified" (although this data can be found in his short bio in his books etc.) seems totally over the top and could be taken as completely biased if not distorting editing about the work of a living person, grounded on sheer improvization and negative bias, something that one couldn't expect from an experienced editor. 2A02:1388:142:A167:C8ED:E944:20E1:A0F (talk) 00:56, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Peer review request for indie video game developer article edit

Hi Czar,

I'm looking for someone to do a peer review of the Jonathan Blow article I've been working on and off for the past two years. I saw that you were listed on WP:PRV under indie video games, hence this message!

Would you have time over the next couple of weeks to review it? The article came back from the WP:GUILD last month, so I'm now looking for someone who knows the standards when it comes to indie video game articles to give it a read. I'd like to submit it for WP:GAN it the coming months, so I'd like to know how to improve the article so that it meets GA standard.

Let me know if you're interested! Neuroxic (talk) 02:59, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I've added the article to the list at WP:PR Neuroxic (talk) 17:13, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

August 12 TFA edit

Hello. I was wondering if I could convince you to move La Salute è in voi as FTA to November 4 (Luigi's death). I've been planning to nominate elephant for that date as it is World Elephant Day. LittleJerry (talk) 20:41, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @LittleJerry, that's reasonable and I'd be open to that, but isn't Elephant a re-run? We try to run new articles over re-runs. czar 17:48, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Old FAs can, and are, re-run after 5 five years. Its been 10 years since elephant was on the main page. LittleJerry (talk) 18:03, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Nominations for August 12 are now open. Can I go ahead? LittleJerry (talk) 00:33, 9 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Growing Up Absurd scheduled for TFA edit

This is to let you know that the Growing Up Absurd article has been scheduled as today's featured article for July 6, 2023. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page blurb, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/July 6, 2023, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so. If you wish to make comments on other matters concerning the scheduling of this article, you can do so at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/July 2023.

I suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks and congratulations Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:23, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Held v. Montana edit

On 4 July 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Held v. Montana, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that 16 Montana youths are plaintiffs in the lawsuit Held v. Montana, the first constitutional climate change lawsuit to go to trial in the United States? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Held v. Montana. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Held v. Montana), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

TFA? edit

Hi czar. You listed La Salute è in voi at Potential TFAs for 12 August, but never actually nominated it. The 12th is now filled - with Elephant for World Elephant Day. I have tentatively scheduled La Salute è in voi for 27th August. Is this ok with you? Is there any other date in August you would prefer? Or would you rather it not run this August at all, given that the 12th is not available? Thanks. Gog the Mild (talk) 14:29, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Gog the Mild, thanks for checking. Can we hold it for another date? I'll add it back to WP:TFAR. czar 03:34, 12 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Strange edit to VIT5 edit

Take a look at this edit by an SPA IP from yesterday. Should this be reverted? Festucalextalk 14:37, 20 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yep. Since that list is maxed out, any further changes are meant to come by discussion, so if any controversial changes are made outside of discussion, you should feel free to revert it. Since it's the IP's sole edit, I wouldn't say they're necessarily a SPA but that doesn't change the circumstances for the revert either way. czar 18:01, 20 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Park Jisung (NCT) edit

Hi i did up this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park_Jisung_(NCT) which was just a redirect to the group page, to a whole biography of the artist in mention. I included a lot of verified sources (as per. WP:KO/RS) but another user deleted everything and said I should clarify it with you instead. Are you able to assist? Links: special:permanentlink/1169147187; Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Park Ji-sung (singer) was special:permanentlink/1038625204; User talk:Hyphenation Expert#Park Jisung (NCT)
@Intuivo, many of those sources aren't in WP:KO/RS. What makes them reliable? czar 03:01, 8 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
== Stuck on what to do ==
Hi Czar thanks for responding! i meant the one i edited not the draft which was deleted in 2021.
Citations I listed:
2. news.sbs is a news site under broadcasting station SBS
4. news.kbs is listed as KBS Broadcasting in WP:KO/RS
8. news.sbs is a news site under broadcasting station SBS
9. chosun is listed as The Chosun Ilbo in WP:KO/RS
11. naver is listed as Naver News in WP:KO/RS
12. herald pop is listed as The Korean Herald in WP:KO/RS
15. star news is listed as The star news in WP:KO/RS
16. herald pop is listed as The Korean Herald in WP:KO/RS
17. aju news is listed as Korea Economic Daily in WP:KO/RS
19. asia today is listed as Asia Today Korea in WP:KO/RS

So these are some of the citations which are listed. Some of the other citations are archived official websites (primary sources). Intuivo (talk) 03:18, 8 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Intuivo, the new draft is significantly different from the last draft that there are clear merits to revisiting the discussion. I'm restoring it but I advise to (1) remove the unreliable refs, and (2) add publisher info to each citation with links to the Wikipedia articles for each publications, so readers unfamiliar with Korean sources can learn more about their credibility. czar 03:29, 8 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Czar, yes my apologies i didn't know the previous draft existed so i just did a page from scratch since i saw that the page was just a redirect. Noted on points 1 & 2! thank you so much! Intuivo (talk) 03:36, 8 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Czar sorry i'm confused, so which link can i put my draft in now? the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park_Ji-sung_(singer) or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park_Jisung_(NCT) ? able to delete one of them and just keep the other page? Intuivo (talk) 03:46, 8 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Intuivo, they've been centralized at Park Ji-sung (singer) with a common history if anyone needs to review across drafts. czar 03:49, 8 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
got it thanks! Intuivo (talk) 04:08, 8 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

TFA and Precious anniversary edit

Precious

my story today

Thank you today for Growing Up Absurd, introduced (in 2022): "While hardly a classic today, this book was once the bible of a generation, found on bookshelves across American college campuses during the 1960s counterculture as well as, years later, the cabin bookshelves of Ted Kaczynski. Growing Up Absurd was a paean to 1960s youth, written by a hopeful yet outcast intellectual finally finding his audience after a lifetime of striking out. Originally writing on the then-hot topic of rising juvenile delinquency, Paul Goodman defended the youth subculture that rejected adult society much as Goodman did himself, writing that youth had no business "growing up" into a world designed to process and spit them out, and that adults had better create a world of worthwhile ardor, with more meaningful work, honorable community, sexual freedom, and spiritual sustenance. Growing Up Absurd launched Goodman from the bohemian underground into a flash of idiosyncratic stardom in the twilight of his life, from lifelong impoverishment to the top tenth of American incomes, as he became a high-demand public intellectual namechecked in Annie Hall, a Dutch uncle to the counterculture and Berkeley Free Speech Movement, the philosopher of the New Left, and within only several decades, largely forgotten from American public consciousness."! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:45, 18 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Today, it's a place that inspired me, musings if you have time. My corner for memory and music has today a juxtaposition of what our local church choirs offer. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:40, 20 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your GA review of How the Red Sun Rose edit

Hi Czar, this is Thomas. I wanted to thank you for dedicating your time to reviewing How the Red Sun Rose (it must've taken you a lot of time), and I'm sorry for my late response to your last collection of suggestions for improvement, as the time then coincided with the start of my new job, and then the start of school.
