Salom dear Aranya! Can you make an article about Iranian actor Cihangir Gaffari (جهانگیر غفاری) [1] [2] [3], who filmed in Iranian, Turkish and Hollywood movies, find references in Persian and Turkish sites? Thank you! --95.54.103.156 (talk) 16:59, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Esther Lurie

On 8 February 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Esther Lurie, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Esther Lurie (pictured) used photographs of drawings to reconstruct most of her artwork that did not survive World War II? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Esther Lurie. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Esther Lurie), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

My page

Hi New 2 the wikipedia's Can u help me design my page How did u c my page Can share my contact no...if helpful Rajesh R Talreja (talk) 03:28, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi Rajesh R Talreja! It seems your user page was deleted because it intended to promote someone or something (although I'm not exactly sure since the page is deleted now). Wikipedia isn't the place for content like this, but more the place for encyclopedic content or other things closely related to Wikipedia's goals. If you would like to take a look at what you can put on your user page, you can get a detailed explanation on the help page for user pages. Taking a look at this help page might also be helpful for learning what you probably shouldn't have on your user page. Feel free to design a new user page that abides by Wikipedia's policies, and leave me another message if you would like my help with it! If you have any other questions, I would also be happy to answer them too. Have fun editing! – Aranya (talk) 19:51, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

My talk page

Hey, I would just like some help as my talk page is kinda messy, I was just wondering could I delete what I want or is that considered an offence on wiki? Also thank you for your message on my talk page, and also going through your talk page and contributions it looks like you've done so much for this community and I'd just like to thank you for helping everyone, thank you -- Toby Mitches (talk) 07:37, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

@Toby Mitches: Hi. No. It is totally okay to delete/remove stuff from your talkpage. However, warnings, or discussions about controversial/sensative topics should be archived. General question about COI, thank you

Hi, I'm a frequent user of Wikipedia and occasionally edit articles here. When Wikipedia first started, I wrote some articles on statistics and medicine.

Now that Wikipedia is so much larger and complete, I find that where I can contribute focuses on the area of work I'm in: pain management.

A couple of articles I contributed to recently were marked for COI, and if you could I appreciate some assistance.

The WAPMU page I started was deleted for COI but it is a large international professional organization for Pain Management--I pay them to go to their conferences to learn, like thousands of others around the world. They are notable because they provide training courses and help set standards on the emerging field of ultrasound guided interventional pain, key in ensuring quality of care. Is there a way for me to help WAPMU page get back up again? (ok if not)

The other page is Vanila Singh's page. She is a co-worker and a luminary in the field of Pain. I see the COI mark on her page and want to help her, but I cannot specifically find the offending parts. How can I help? (also again, ok if I'm not appropriate as a person to help)

thank you

New Page Patrol needs experienced volunteers
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.

African-Jamaican findings.

Afternoon Aryana, as you'll find on the page of Jamaica that it states the African population is at 92%. Another source you'll find on the African-Jamaicans page is it also states the African population is comprised of over 90% so by that trend. Another source is if you'd scroll down to the Afro-Jamaican DNA findings, it states that Afro-Jamaicans have over 97% African ancestry on average. This leads me to believe that the 75% is not only an anomaly in statistics but generally misinformation as 2.4 Million out of 2.9 Million equates to 93% and not 75% of the population. There are sources to support all of the afromentioned. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.198.75.185 (talk) 15:30, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi there. It seems that it was initially changed to 75% by an IP editor in this edit. I have now reverted it back to the original number, which seems to make much more sense as you have explained. Thank you for reaching out to me and letting me know. Cheers! – Aranya (talk) 15:40, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

My modifications to Invasion of Banu Qurayza were true, and you can consult many Islamic books if you don't believe me.

Please stop editing Muslim articles on Muslim history when you aren't Muslim.

Edit: Since you're going to play dumb, This is who I am https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:2601:204:E780:2746:C039:B7EB:7F02:F6DC

Edit 2: My own claims are validated by another user further down in the article:

"According to Mubrakpuri, only one woman of the Jews was killed because she had killed a Muslim warrior by flinging a grinding stone upon him. This is also mentioned in Sunni Hadith collections:

No woman of Banu Qurayza was killed except one. She was with me, talking and laughing on her back and belly (extremely), while the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) was killing her people with the swords. Suddenly a man called her name: Where is so-and-so? She said: I I asked: What is the matter with you? She said: I did a new act. She said: The man took her and beheaded her. She said: I will not forget that she was laughing extremely although she knew that she would be killed. Sunan Abu Dawud 14:2665"

"Greek Catholicism" is not a religion.

Aranya, I just recognized you reversed my correction. It was supported by a Wikipedia article I referenced to. I understand that you are saying my citation was not made in a proper way. But the erroneous original text you reverted to cites nothing at all. Why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Knigochey (talkcontribs) 00:38, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi Knigochey, it seems that the edit in question seemed like it was providing commentary not too appropriate for an encyclopedia and also referenced Wikipedia itself which is strongly discouraged. If you can provide a reliable source for the information you would like added or changed, you are absolutely free to make the change. I can also restore your change if you can provide me with a source to add with it. Cheers – Aranya (talk) 02:10, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Imagine you stumbled upon a text that says that Hamas people (Sunnies) converted to some other religion based on the fact they are affiliated with Iranian Shia. How would you react? Similarly, "Greek" refers to Cristian Orthodox religion and "Catholics - to their political affiliation with the Papacy.

Knigochey, thanks for taking the time to provide a source. I'm assuming this is about the specific unsourced claims on the History section of the Chernobyl – please feel free to modify them and also provide that source. There's a relatively short guide on citing sources on Wikipedia which also may be of use. If you have any more concerns about the article, please make sure to bring it up on the Chernobyl article talk page, where editors more experienced than me might be able to provide help. The change wasn't an attempt at censoring the show. I made the change because the actual line in the show was crap and not shit. I made the change without logging in, while however I made the original edit myself, while having logged in to wiki. Please revert it. Tupac Shakur

Hi Aranya! Hope you're well.

I noticed you removed a sentence from the Tupac Shakur page as the reference was a YouTube video. I understand YouTube videos are normally considered unreliable. However, this video was an interview with a member of the Outlawz, and therefore his words are a primary source relating to the ashes incident.

The edit you made was at 15:56 on 22 January 2020 with the comment "rm claim sourced by youtube video; add source for ashes".

Please let me know what you think, and whether the sentence should be reinstated.

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by TauTau918 (talkcontribs) 12:11, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi TauTau918, thanks for contacting me about my earlier edit to Tupac Shakur. The section WP:NFRINGE (as well as the rest of the page) is useful for this situation, since the claim is being made by one relevant figure and departs from the mainstream viewpoint on the ashes. Unfortunately a primary source video doesn't help prove the notability of the claim, let alone show the claim has due weight in the scope of the subject's death. If you can find reliable, non-primary, and independent sources that report the claim and show that its inclusion has due weight, then you are absolutely free to restore the claim (with the new sources). Please be aware that other editors might challenge the addition and that you might have to further discuss with them to work towards a better version of the article.
Please let me know if I can clarify anything. If you would like, you can also add a general inquiry or an edit request to Talk:Tupac Shakur so that you can get other editors' thoughts on the restoring the claim. Cheers – Aranya (talk) 15:16, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

Al-Ma'idah

Aryana, will you please undo your edit and possibly check the source yourself?

Muhammad Asad states: In classical Arabic idiom, the "cutting off of one's hands and feet" is often synonymous with "destroying one's power" Hence I stated it is "is often used metaphorically in Arabic"

The current sentence does not make any sense. What phrase might be metaphorical with "cutting off of one's hands and feet"? The phrase itself actually appears after this statement. So should at the very least read:

the phrase "cutting off of one's hands and feet" might be metaphorical for "destroying one's power"

Or: the phrase "cutting off of one's hands and feet" might be metaphorical, possibly denoting "destroying one's power"

This is all keeping in view with what Muhammad Asad means but the current version is just poor English.119.155.35.31 (talk) 13:50, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

I have reverted my edit and struckthrough the talk page notices. Thanks for taking the time to reach out to me and explain your edit. Cheers – Aranya (talk) 13:57, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
No problem, and sorry for sounding frustrated in my previous post. How are these issues flagged so quickly flagged? And is there some extra caution around IP related edits?119.155.35.31 (talk) 14:09, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
I usually review the recent changes log, which makes use of the WMF ORES service to analyze new edits made across Wikipedia in order to aid human editors. The software categorizes edits by predicting the intent of editors or the quality of their edits. These predictions are not necessarily made based on the type of user, so (hopefully) they don't hold any prejudice specifically against IP editors. At least whenever I review a new edit, I try to automatically assume good faith of the editor and go from there. – Aranya (talk) 14:42, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Edits for GANYC

Hello. I am writing in response to edits made on the listing for GANYC. I want to thank you for your dedication to Wikipedia, and your concerns about the page. I totally understand the concerns some users had with the Awards section of the page (being overly detailed, etc), so I removed most of that section, leaving just the most basic information needed. I also understand the concern about too many primary sources, so I have gone back in and removed as many as possible. My main concern was the recent edits that undid my own actually ended up making the listing more inaccurate, and had put back in out of date information about the membership count and the organization's President. All of the info can be verified online. I did also add back in some more details about the organization work, not using any primary sources but instead using numerous external citations to major news sites such as the NY Times and Politico, etc, that explicitly reference the details in the Wiki listing. Based on my explorations of countless Wikipedia articles in my own years of research, these additions are well in keeping with the type of information found throughout this site. If the goal of the Wiki page is to simply give Wiki readers the most concise and accurate info on a subject, I believe my edits achieved this.

I would imagine and hope that any further edits needed to the page would be very minor and would not remove the updated, and cited information.

Thank you, --JWilcox79 (talk) 14:51, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Hello JWilcox79, thank you for reaching out to me on my talk page. There still seem to be issues with the articles sources and connected editors even after your edits, so I have restored the maintenance templates for now but maintained the other changes. Please let a more experienced editor remove them when it is clear the issues, especially with the conflicts of interest, have been resolved. Additionally, if you have a conflict of interest or are receiving or expecting to receive compensation for your edits, Wikipedia requires that you follow the appropriate the guidelines to disclose the nature of this involvement. These guidelines can be found on the WP:DISCLOSE page. Please let me know if I can provide further assistance. You also can inquire at question forums such as the Help desk and the Teahouse question forum, if you would like to consult with other Wikipedia editors. Cheers – Aranya (talk) 15:02, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Error with edit

Hi Aranya,

I received a message through wikipedia stating I had made an error when editing the Con Air page. Apparently I didn't provide a reliable source. I didn't edit the page and Im wondering how you have got my details?

Kind regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.233.36.17 (talk) 17:06, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi there! The edit to Con Air was made from the IP address you're using, back in August 2019 (you can see it here). I can see this because whenever someone edits Wikipedia without an account, their IP address is recorded in the page's history (which everyone can see). Since IP addresses can be used by different people, the message about the reliable source was probably intended for another person. So no worries! If you have any other concerns about Wikipedia, please feel free to let me know and I will be happy to answer them. Have a great day! – Aranya (talk) 17:47, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Creation of personal page

Hi Aranya, I am new in Wikipedia and couldn't create a personal page. Could you help me? BR, Samir Samir Babazadeh (talk) 12:31, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Samir Babazadeh, and thanks for leaving a message here. Your original user page was deleted for having substantial writings not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. If you are aware of the WP:UPNOT guidelines that describe what you typically shouldn't put on your user page, I'm sure it won't be deleted again. – Aranya (talk) 12:59, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

hey

I got a notice for deletion initiated by you! Can you please tell me in detail and guide me further on to it 🙏 Sarahkalidasi (talk) 17:47, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi Sarahkalidasi, the userpage that you created at User:Sarahkalidasi contained material that didn't seem to relate to Wikipedia's goals. I initiated the deletion because Wikipedia is not a place to publish your own original work - personal thoughts, analyses, stories, etc. Please feel free to recreate your page if you use it for things related to your Wikipedia work and activities. We also have a guide about what you might put in your user page, so please be sure to look at that to create an appropriate user page. – Aranya (talk) 18:13, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Tagging of User:Author about contentcreator/sandbox

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on User:Author about contentcreator/sandbox. I do not think that User:Author about contentcreator/sandbox fits any of the speedy deletion criteria  because This is a reasonable early attempt at an article, whether it proves notable or not, and so is not "unrelated to Wikipedia's purposes". If you wish, you may try using the simple proposed deletion (PROD) process, or the full articles for deletion (AfD) process, instead, if this was an article, or another proces such as MfD or XfD as appropriate. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 17:49, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

My bad DESiegel, I see now that was a bit overzealous. Thanks for declining and for giving me the heads up. – Aranya (talk) 23:54, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
You are quite welcome. That is part of what I do here. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 12:48, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

Urdu

Hiya, sorry to bother you. Do you know what's the situation with this article? I see we both tried to flag it for deletion but it keeps getting reverted by the creator and its cohorts. Like you, I also tried to ping the admin for that project to add the existing SPI, but somehow my post got reverted. I wonder what's the best course of action in such case? — Infogapp1 (talk) 19:15, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi Infogapp1, sorry for the delayed response. Urdu Wikipedia has a good number of active admins, so the deletion should definitely be handled there. I've nominated the article for deletion earlier so hopefully any patrolling admins can take a look. Unfortunately, I'm not too acquainted with the project's policies, so I can't offer much advice than informing active admins and trusted editors who are proficient in English (which you have seem to done). – Aranya (talk) 10:06, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
Infogapp1 No worries =) I messaged another admin yesterday, and looks like it's been taken cared of now. I've flagged it for Wikidata deletion, too. — Infogapp1 (talk) 10:29, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, I appreciate your help. If anything else comes up that's more xwiki-related, please feel free to let me know on meta. – Aranya (talk) 10:34, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

Axe article

Hi. Nice to see someone else working in the Smash space. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help!

If you need any pictures of players, there's a handful of people willing to re-license photos on Flickr if asked, so I can hopefully get photos of anyone you need.

Finally, I'm very out of my element when it comes to Melee, but I got List of major Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournaments to Featured List and the Wii U list is currently being nominated for Featured List. If you're interested in collaborating to clean up the Melee list, let me know. The most important thing that we need is a method of determining which tournaments to include. For Wii U and Ultimate, I used the PGR/PGRU majors. I don't know if Melee has a similar ranking body with similar tier lists, especially going back since the beginning.

Cheers, The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 17:24, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

Hey, nice to meet you and thanks for the advice. At least for now, the Axe article mostly uses the majors highlighted in PGR entries, which usually have articles or otherwise a good reason to be mentioned. I'm planning on improving it and maybe nominating for DYK/GA, so that'll probably change. I haven't found too much formal coverage about the tiers in Melee except Liquipedia though, and I'm a bit fuzzy on how it might work here.
Also, thanks for the offer! I like writing bios and covering any of the scenes, so I'd definitely be interested in a collaboration! – Aranya (talk) 13:35, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

IF "Tiffany Fred" is the correct name, why does it redirect to Tiffany Red? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.171.150.102 (talk) 20:05, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

This is because the credit is to her previous name. Also, changing the category name right now will add a nonexistent category. Since the corresponding category is still under the old name, I've requested a speedy renaming so that it matches the new name. Thanks for letting me know. – Aranya (talk) 20:24, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time to leave me a message here. I've restored your addition with some wording changes. It's at the end of the "History" section of the article. If you have a source ready to add, please feel free to do so - we have a quick guide on how to add references at the Help:Introduction to referencing page. I can also add the reference myself if you provide me with some details about the source.
If you need anything else, feel free to leave another message. The Wikipedia Teahouse is also a great place to ask questions or receive help too. Best, – Aranya (talk) 12:18, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

Auronplay

Hello! I would like to say, that I added the height because Auronplay itself made it public domain (of all) The fans also really like to know those things, and since I had a fairly reliable source, I put it. I think that since he made it public and there is a good reference, as well as a template in the article to put the height, since it is a data that does not hurt to appear. Here in Spain Auronplay is very popular (and in Hispanoamerica)

Obviously I am not going to put it without your consent, but I would definitely recommend it.

I wait for an answer. Thank you:)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Jaiden Animations (February 23)

Your recent article submission has been rejected. If you have further questions, you can ask at the Articles for creation help desk or use Wikipedia's real-time chat help. The reason left by Firefly was: This topic is not sufficiently notable for inclusion in Wikipedia. The comment the reviewer left was: This has been (re)submitted 8 times, seemingly without any change to the sourcing that would show notability. The subject has only passing mentions in most sources, and I cannot find any better ones with a reasonably in-depth search. I think it’s time to give up here.
ƒirefly ( t · c ) 21:58, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

See you there! ƒirefly ( t · c ) 21:58, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
@Firefly: replying here since you left your in-depth explanation here: after this draft was resubmitted 7 times, the subject received a Streamy Award in late 2020 and the draft was trimmed down and its sourcing redone to reflect that. Doesn't the award count for criterion 1 of WP:ANYBIO, them being a YouTuber? Thanks, Aranya (talk) 22:32, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
Hello! I’m not entirely convinced that the Streamy win in of itself proves notability - criteria like ANYBIO are not hard-and-fast rules, but more like shortcuts to help with determining notability. The key thing for any article is multiple independent, reliable sources and in-depth coverage of the subject in them - which I just don’t see for this channel. Almost all the sources only mention Jaiden Animations in passing, which doesn’t help for notability purposes, nor could I find any such sources. Happy for my rejection to be reviewed at the AfC Help Desk if you wish however. ƒirefly ( t · c ) 22:02, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
That makes sense, thanks. Appreciate your reply and explanation. Aranya (talk) 22:34, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Appeal

Hello,

I noticed you deleted my edit to Julia Marciari-Alexander and take issue with your reasoning. How do I appeal your decision?

Thanks in advance.

Lwnsofd (talk) 22:44, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi Lwnsofd, please feel free to restore your addition to Marciari-Alexander's article - you can just undo my deletion. Personally, I feel like it belongs in a History section on the museum's page. It doesn't seem to be about her or her work, rather that she just presided over the museum and was doing her job during the incident, union developments, etc. If you do restore the edit, would you mind also firmly linking Marciari-Alexander to the incident, i.e. clarify her specific role in it?
If there are any other problems with the article, you can also leave any comments on the article's talk page (located at Talk:Julia Marciari-Alexander) and me and other Wikipedia editors might be able to help out. Best, Aranya (talk) 23:53, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

Nice work! BTW, while you can't thank bots, you can give them treats. And I do. To excess. Best, El_C 20:23, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

@El C: Awesome, thanks for publishing! And I need to totally find a way to mass-WikiLove all the bots I've come across... maybe there's a bot for that? Total chaos. Aranya (talk) 15:34, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
You're very welcome, Aranya. Just take it easy with the bot treats, since as mentioned, I've been going quite overboard with those, leaving at least one un/fortunate bot perhaps too plumped to frolic merrily in the wild.¯\_(ツ)_/¯ El_C 15:44, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
Lol, of course! From what I've seen I'm sure Cyberbot deserves it, poor overworked bot.   Aranya (talk) 23:45, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

October 2021

Aranya, You just contacted me about my update to the page relating to recent events with the Valkyrae. All of my updates referenced sources to reliable and legitimate information including specific Twitter posts and related studies. Would you mind clarifying what particular component of my edit did not have sufficient support so that I can make the necessary changes? Thanks. Edit: I just read through the change notes and article relating to living persons and I understand the changes you made. I appreciate the message! Scruffymoose (talk) 05:13, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

edit to millwall Bushwackers

hi can I ask if it was you who edited the page saying millwall were heavily affiliated with the national front in the 80 and 90s, this is a false, millwall Bushwackers were multicultural with many black Asian and Turkish members when the national front turned up while panorama were filming they were chased away from the ground never to come again, please can you give actual proof of these accusations links that say the above from police intelligence etc ? , I have took the edit out as it is blatantly false as everyone involved in football hooliganism knows. Disambiguation link notification for December 17

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Guadalupe Urbina, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Guanacaste. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

might I ask why you reverted about half of my edits

I did nothing wrong those were up for months so they were fine Sarah afton (talk) 18:07, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi Sarah afton, if you're talking about your edits on Wikimedia Commons - the sort of funny captions you're adding to pictures here [4][5][6] made me laugh a bit when I came across them, but they're obviously not useful to anyone who wants to learn about the pictures. Please don't add them. It creates more work for other users who have to remove or replace them with better captions. On the other hand, I saw that some of your other ones were great descriptions and I didn't touch those. If you need help with editing on Wikipedia, or if you want me to suggest any interesting things you can do around here, let me know! Best wishes, Bridget (talk) 20:10, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

Help

I need help with a page I have added edits to and that you tried to help stoping biased editing. Contents that are not in favour of the followers of the page are being removed without any explanation. Elstonbrene (talk) 22:16, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi Elstonbrene, thanks for reaching out and sorry for the late reply. I'm assuming this is about your edits to the Ann Olivarius article, judging by the messages on your talk page. To build on what other editors have said, Wikipedia's BLP policy requires that information in biographies of living people is verifiable with published, reliable sources. Also important is Wikipedia's WP:NPOV policy - on Wikipedia we cover issues with respect to their prevalence in sources. This means some parts of a person's life are not touched upon, for example, if news media haven't reported on certain court developments. This applies even if you believe something to be true for certain, but can only find court documents (primary sources) and no reputable news outlets to use as sources.
Just to be clear, this is not to doubt that you genuinely want to make the article better. The other editors just want to make sure that it covers only what's already been published in secondary sources. Wikipedia, as an encyclopedia, isn't intended to be a primary vehicle for reporting on such claims. Best wishes, Bridget (talk) 14:58, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
