Kelly Cramer photo

Armbrust, I was wondering if you could update the infobox photo of Kelly Cramer with the white background like you did for the other One Life to Live character profiles. I think it would be better to have that type of picture up to be in accordance with the other characters. Thanks a lot! 149.4.42.21 (talk) 16:44, 2 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but I didn't updated the other pages. Someone has updated the pictures and I just removed not needed white spaces and reduced their site non-free use. Armbrust Talk Contribs 16:59, 2 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Find Highly Composite Numbers

Thanks for reviewing my page on finding highly composite numbers. This is my first page, so please excuse me for not getting everything right first time. I have added categories and a reference and removed the corresponding tags that you rightly placed into the article. I hope that's ok. There is still the wikify tag left. Please tell me what I need to do before I am justified in removing the tag. Also, I was surprised to find that Mathematics and Number Theory are not preexisting categories. I don't know whether I should just remove those category references. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Torkel1001 (talkcontribs) 07:06, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Well you have misspelled the first and capitalised the second wrong. Corrected them for you. Wikify means, that you should add links to other articles. For more information see: Wikipedia:Glossary#Wikify. Armbrust public Talk Contribs 10:30, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

U.S. National Whitewater Center

Hello, Is there any reason not to use File:Logo for US National Whitewater Center.svg in the article's infobox? The confusion was started when User:Whitewater center converted a photo to a logo (for unknown reason), which you reverted, and then uploaded the logo separately. But there was already a logo file, which displays better than the jpg logo that was first uploaded by User:Whitewater center. Thanks. HowardMorland (talk) 09:09, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Bradford Dragons

Hi, I'm quite new to this, but I will state my case for inclusion of the Bradford Dragons on Wikipedia. Firstly many of the other teams in the English basketball league have entries, many not as long as my entry. Secondary I followed very closely what had been written about similar basketball teams the Manchester Magic and Leeds Carnegie. this entry was only meant to give the public similar information as on other teams and does not contain bias towards them. Bradford Dragons also attract crowds upwards of 200 many more than similar clubs who have a page on Wikipedia. If Bradford Dragons aren't deemed worthy of a page then surely other basketball teams with less popularity and interest around the country must also be deleted. Many thanks Elsy1990 (talk) 03:38, 5 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but I can't remember how the article looked and which information it contained before deletion. I have to say, the deletion of the article by RHaworth (talk · contribs), confirms for me that the tag was correct. If you feel this is not the case, then you can request undeletion or contact the deleting admin. Armbrust Talk Contribs 03:50, 5 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I think I have understood the reason for deletion, however Bradford Dragons are an established club like others in the same league and below who have pages. I think it would be easier for tips to be given how to improve rather than deletion without checking around the subject area. Bradford Dragons are deemed worthy of mentions on both the English Basketball League page and the page regarding sport in the city of Bradford. So why not there own page? Elsy1990 (talk) 03:58, 5 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I have say there is no reason, why such an article can't exist if it passes WP:V and WP:GNG (or WP:ORG). The article was deleted, because at that time it hasn't contained any information, which indicated notability. I strongly suggest creating the article in a user subpage, in this case User:Elys1990/Bradford Dragons, and after you have added all relevant information, you move it to the article namespace. This has the advantage, that you can work on the article without the danger of deletion. (Please if you have other questions, than write it on my talk page. I prefer to make the same discussion on the same place.) Happy editing. Armbrust Talk Contribs 04:17, 5 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Twin Sister

Hi Armbrust. This week you used Twinkle to request an A7 speedy deletion for a page I created, Twin Sister. The speedy delete has been declined as a matter of course, but this is beside the point, I just want to point to the guidelines for using Twinkle to request speedy deletion for new articles - Wikipedia:New pages patrol#New pages that may require deletion - and in particular this paragraph:

In particular, an article should not be tagged for speedy delete using A7 for not being notable (in your opinion): an article does not have to prove that its subject is notable, it only has to pass the much lower test of asserting importance or significance (whether it actually is notable is a subject for an AfD discussion, not a speedy deletion). Consider using a Notability tag instead of a speedy delete tag.

Now, I'm not going to accuse you of abuse of the system here, but this nomination was clearly on this basis - significance was already asserted in several ways. Please stop and read an article next time before doing this. Thanks. Bienfuxia (talk) 04:54, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

The article Finding highly composite numbers is being discussed concerning whether it is suitable for inclusion as an article according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Gandalf61 (talk) 13:12, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Good sir instead of putting the reference tag on all the article related to this event why don't you contribute? Intoronto1125 (talk) 17:42, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

There is nothing wrong on tagging articles. If you don't like them, then you have the option of ignoring them or address them. Me personally doesn't interest this event so much to search for references. Armbrust Talk Contribs 18:29, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

File:Marie Mattingley Meloney 1943 obituary photo.tiff

Hello, my friend. I am sure you get this question a lot, but I don't know the answer. In regard to the above image, I uploaded it at about noon and placed it in the Marie Mattingly Meloney article some ten minutes later. Perhaps there should be a greater time lag before a message about Speedy Deletion is sent? What do you think? Sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 20:43, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Well the image was uploaded at 20:05 and I have tagged the image at 20:24, also twenty minutes later. What do you think, how many time should pass by before nominating the picture for deletion? By the way you should notice, that you have seven day to add the picture to an article. Removed tag as it is in a article now. Happy editing. Armbrust Talk Contribs 20:52, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hmm. If an editor has seven days by consensus, why tag it with a Speedy? Not sure I follow your logic. (By the way, I like the photo of your cat.) GeorgeLouis (talk) 20:57, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
It was tagged, because it is non-free images, which wasn't used in any articles. In the case of files speedy means, that the image will be deleted in 7 day by a sysop, if the picture isn't used in any article. This time gives the up-loader plenty of time to add it to the intended article. (By the way, I have no cat, because I live in a panel and we already have a dog. We just took care of her, as long as we found her a better place in a family house.) Armbrust Talk Contribs 21:07, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well, the notice did attract my attention. I guess "Speedy" does not mean exactly what it says. Seven days is not "speedy," to me. I think you should give the uploader (me) a little bit more time to get the photo put into the article. If editors have two or three graphics to upload (in the same stretch of time), then they should be given a chance to put those into articles before they are hit with a Threat to Delete. I will be doing more uploads today. Maybe it is the wording of the notice itself that is a bit peremptory, not you personally. Bye for now. Your pal, GeorgeLouis (talk) 21:23, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Files For Upload (Long Overdue Welcome)

Hi there. I'm long, long overdue in thanking you for helping out at WP:FFU, it's great to have you aboard, and considering how February is shaping up to be for me, I'm glad that I know that someone is watching the page when I can't be doing so.

A few quick things.

  • Files for upload is part of the Articles for Creation group, and tracks uploads performed through FFU by using the {{WPAFC}} banner. Through the magic of the file namespace, that's all you need to stick in the talk page, it figures out that it's a file automatically, and AfC does not even use importance ratings. If you could remember to do that, it would be wonderful, if not, no problem. I suppose the only reason we track them is so we can all throw a charming little tea party if one of them gets promoted to FS.
  • Secondly, it's worth pointing out that we are a first contact point for many new users. I see that you use the templates for explaining fair use and licensing in submissions. That's a good thing. Keep up the good work, and don't be afraid to personalize the messages if necessary.
  • Third, if you ever see him around, (he's currently on wikibreak), Graeme Bartlett is probably the most experienced user at FFU, and I'm sure he'd like to know you work in FFU.
  • Finally, if you ever need anything or have any questions, feel free to ask me. I can be reached on my talk page, or on the IRC channel #wikipedia-en. Anything I can do to help, I will.

Thanks again, Sven Manguard Wha? 22:26, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

There's two ways in this special case. You either give me a link, where the license information can be found (for example for this picture the license link is the following]) or you follow the steps described at WP:CONSENT and after them inform me, that it happened. It could be faster if you choose the first variation. Armbrust Talk Contribs 22:55, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
This license link is the file. Is that enought? I can give you my access for there if you need :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Angelbab (talkcontribs) 23:09, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
There is a problem. The picture currently has a "All Rights Reserved" license. If you have uploaded the picture, than change it to {{Cc-by-2.0}} and I will upload the picture. If you're not the up-loader, then you have to follow the second variation. (No need for it, I'm registered to flickr.) Armbrust Talk Contribs 23:14, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi Armbrust. Although you have a high edit count and !vote for or against new admins, I see you've never contributed to this discussion. The on-going talk makes suggestions on how to make RfA a friendlier place that will encourage more editors of the right calibre to come forward and run for office. Hello! I noticed your comments on why you opposed an RfA recently, and that one of your reasons was a high percentage of automated edits. License tagging for File:Rantoul and Die 2011.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Rantoul and Die 2011.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

Note that Wikipedia articles doesn't count as reliable sources. If you can't find any other source, than the submission will be declined (by someone else). 8-Bit Operators: The Music of Kraftwerk

Hi Armbrust, sorry to bother you with a page which you had not been working on, but I cannot find how to leave User:Rlholden a message anywhere. I think Rlholden may have been the helpful user who left {{no footnotes}} on the 8-Bit Operators: The Music of Kraftwerk. I believe I have fixed the issues with the page now and wondered if that note can be removed, or do you see anything else that needs to be addressed? You had helped me on another page I was working on before and since you were the last user I had contact with, I thought I would ask you or ask if you know how to forward the message to Rlholden somehow, if he is the user I need to address this with. Thanks again, and sorry if this is wrong protocol, I couldn't find a fitting link in the 'contact wikipedia' section that seemed the right one. Damnsell (talk) 22:58, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

There's no need for contact the user (in this case Rlholden), to remove a tag, if you have addressed the concern. Have removed the the tag, but added another one as the references are not properly formed ({{link rot}}), see: {{cite web}}. Moved the page to The Music of Kraftwerk, as articles about albums don't contain the name of the artists, if not necessary. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 23:16, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hi again Armbrust, thanks I will fix the links. But actually in this case the actual title of the album is "8-Bit Operators: The Music of Kraftwerk" so it should stay like that. It was from that title that the band (or collective in actuality) derived the name. It was considered as a Various Artists compilation (Discogs), sorry for the confusion. I hope to make a separate page for the collective "8-Bit Operators" so actually it is the album "8-Bit Operators: The Music of Kraftwerk" by 8-Bit Operators (collective). Sorry for the confusion and thanks so much for your help and that quick response! :) I should also mention that the there are songs released just under the band name "8-Bit Operators", that I will have to add to the eventual 8-Bit Operators page, so 8-Bit Operators does exist as an entity, but this 1st album with the Kraftwerk covers did have the word "8-Bit Operators" in the actual title. Damnsell (talk) 23:31, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Moved it back because of the link you have given. Many covers contain the name of the musician/band, but it's not part of the title. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 23:51, 27 February 2011 (UT-C)
Thanks for your help man. I will fix those possible link rot links shortly, I understand. Let me know if I can help you in any way. I'm just getting the hang of this. Damnsell (talk) 00:57, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hi again. Thanks for fixing the title on the page, but now the address appears to have stayed at The Music of Kraftwerk instead of the original 8-Bit Operators: The Music of Kraftwerk so it redirects 3 times. Can you fix it back to the 8-Bit Operators: The Music of Kraftwerk address? Thanks man. Sorry for the mixup again. Damnsell (talk) 03:21, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
  Fixed Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 03:27, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Wow that was quick. :) Thanks. How do I change the title on the page to reflect the small 'o' also, couldn't find how to edit that. This way when it's searched it won't offer the 2 choices (1 with the small, 1 with the capital O) which leads to a redirect. So sorry.. I know it's silly ;) Damnsell (talk) 03:35, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well I don't think the article needs to be renamed, because (1) the Discogs link uses the current format and (2) redirects are there to aid navigation and if someone write the title with the small "o", then it will redirect to the current title. Nonetheless if you want to rename it, than you can read Help:Move. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 03:44, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

File:Esquema Fenix-minero (eng).png

Hello, I requested speedy deletion F8 for my own upload. I was receiving upload errors while attempting to upload it to the English Wikipedia but was successful uploading it at the Commons which is a more appropriate location for it anyway. The redundant copy of it on the commons is located here: commons:File:Esquema_Fenix-minero_(eng).png. Please help me cleanup the two redundant copies. Hello again. I reverted the notice (or was that a warning?) you left on my talk page but am now wondering if it was ok to do so or where you supposed to do that? My apologies, I'm a very new editor. May I also ask, if appropriate, whether the newest change I made to the file makes the file good for use? Isablidine 21:48, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
This is a notice. You can remove notices and warnings from your talk page, but with the removal of them you acknowledge, that you have read them. You changes to the file are good. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 21:56, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

F7 speedy deletion tagging

Please slow down on your F7 tagging. You've tagged many book cover and album cover images for F7, even though book covers are one of the most common uses accepted under fair use — for example, the featured article on Night has a non-free cover. Nyttend (talk) 22:38, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Ok. But I have a question. Is "promotional" really an appropriate rationale for a non-free image? Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 22:41, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Maybe, maybe not. But such is far from being a sufficient reason for speedy deletion. Nyttend (talk) 22:43, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

WikiCup 2011 February newsletter

So begins round two of the WikiCup! We now have eight pools, each with eight random contestants. This round will continue until the end of April, when the top two of each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers of those remaining, will make it to round three. Congratulations to   The Bushranger (submissions) (first, with 487 points) and   Hurricanehink (submissions) (second, with 459), who stormed the first round.   Casliber (submissions) finished third with 223. Twelve others finished with over 100 points- well done to all of you! The final standings in round one can be seen here. A mere 8 points were required to reach round two; competition will no doubt be much more fierce this round, so be ready for a challenge! A special thanks goes, again, to   Jarry1250 (submissions) for dealing with all bot work. This year's bot, as well as running smoothly, is doing some very helpful things that last year's did not. Also, thanks to   Stone (submissions) for some helpful behind-the-scenes updating and number crunching.

Some news for those who are interested- March will see a GAN backlog elimination drive, which you are still free to join. Organised by WikiProject Good articles, the drive aims to minimise the GAN backlog and offers prizes to those who help out. Of course, you may well be able to claim WikiCup points for the articles you review as part of the drive. Also ongoing is the Great Backlog Drive, looking to work on clearing all of the backlogs on Wikipedia; again, incentives are offered, and the spirit of friendly competition is alive, while helping the encyclopedia is the ultimate aim. Though unrelated to the WikiCup, these may well be of interest to some of you.

Just a reminder of the rules; if you have done significant work on content this year and it is promoted in this round, you may claim for it. Also, anything that was promoted after the end of round one but before the beginning of round two may be claimed for in round two. Details of the rules can be found on this page. For those interested in statistics, a running total of claims can be seen here, and a very interesting table of that information (along with the highest scorers in each category) can be seen here. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. RfA questions

Armbrust, your participation in RfAs is appreciated of course, but adding five questions is a bit much. Moreover, and see the discussion on the talk page, not all of these questions are reasonable or helpful. Question 11 was struck (I don't know by who), and that's a good thing. But note specifically the discussion on the talk page of "write a rationale opposing yourself." Come on, how could anyone answer that fairly? You leave a candidate only two options: simply write out something not so convincing and far from true that they then turn into a benefit ("Sometimes I've been called too detail-oriented..."), or you give them a free opportunity to get irritated and shoot themselves in the foot. Please refrain from asking that question--it isn't fair and it doesn't help anyone. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 04:41, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

The file I have uploaded is dated 1952 and taken it from a Turkish newspaper. Is there any copyright problem about it? Because it is deleted by you. Thanks. Azdavayca (talk) 13:30, 2 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Well the information is missing a copyright tag. Every image should contain this. See: WP:Copyright tags. You are still too quick . . .

Hello, my friend. It is still very annoying when you remove a photo which has just been added to Wikipedia and before the editor can even place it into the article in question. I messaged you about this before. Hope this day finds you well. Sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 00:10, 3 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Well I don't think so. If I upload a non-free image, than I place it on the article in 3 minutes. In this case nearly 40 minutes has passed by between upload and tagging. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 00:17, 3 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well, *I* think so, and my thinking is just as good as your thinking — I hope you will admit to that. I uploaded two images and I had to write two stories, finding the references as well, and place the two images in those stories in a very short space of time. As a matter of fact, I could have taken a couple of hours or a couple of days and there would have been no harm done. Your threatening to delete those images, which I worked hard to find (taking a few hours or more), is very off-putting, annoying and freak-inducing. If I were a newbie, i would be scared off by such artlessness. So kindly let me know how one can persuade you to give the uploader a day or two to complete the work that he or she is VOLUNTEERING to do. Anything less than that is a good example of biting the newcomers. Now I am taking the time to write this message in the spirit of improving the welcoming attitude of the encyclopedia instead of completing the work on these two articles. It would be very nice if I had received a message saying "Gee, GeorgeLouis, those were certainly good images you found! I'm sure they will be a welcome addition to our work here." Maybe we should all put our minds to being more supportive instead of simply slamming on a boilerplate warning at dawning's first light. Sincerely, your friend in the spirit of Wikidom, GeorgeLouis (talk) 00:45, 3 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Original Nine picture

Hi Armbrust. You seem to know a lot about pictures etc. Would this picture be alright to upload. I think it's alright as it would come under the historically significant category. As it is the moment that the Original Nine tennis players broke away from the ITF and the USTA. But what do you think. KnowIG (talk) 23:25, 7 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I remember a similar image, which was added to the Never Miss a Super Bowl Club article and later deemed as replaceable. It is only similar, because on the picture are living people, but was clearly not historic. I don't know many about the history of the WTA, but according to this website the picture portrays a history significant event, thus I think you can upload it. However I think this image would be a better choice. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 00:17, 8 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Xenogenesis

Hello, will you consider withdrawing Xenogenesis (film) from AFD? You are right that the topic did not appear notable based on the article, but AFD is for determining of there is no significant coverage of the topic outside of the article. A few search queries show that the short is mentioned pretty often when James Cameron is profiled, and I added one of the references to the article. The book The Futurist has even more details about the short. Erik (talk | contribs) 00:41, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

No. I don't see how the only relevant section has any connection to the subject of the article. In the AfD discussion, the only argument I see, is that it's notable because its director is James Cameron, but notability can't be inherited. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 18:39, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I agree that it is not a good argument to say to keep just because it is a director's first film. I certainly don't believe that. However, I have linked to sources that talk about the short film. It was not a film notable at the time of its creation, but in the process of profiling James Cameron, some articles shed some insight on the short. I mentioned The Futurist, which has two pages detailing the short itself, and the book mentions the short several additional times in the course of covering Cameron's career. I am pretty sure that the article will be kept based on my kind of argument, unless you think that it does not hold water. Erik (talk | contribs) 23:44, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Tag bombing

Some might consider singling out articles in this manner and bombarding them with mostly inapplicable or duplicative cleanup tags to be disruptive. What do you think? Trying to make a point much? wjematherbigissue 17:15, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Don't know, what do you mean, but every single tag I placed is valid. Deal with them or leave them, but don't remove the tags without addressing them. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 18:07, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Placing three tags when one covers it is just unnecessary. As an example, if you say something needs more 3rd party sources, it is redundant to also say it needs more references and more footnotes. wjematherbigissue 18:30, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
You're right in this case, but saying that the article has no footnotes isn't redundant. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 18:35, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

File:4guru nigamananda.gif

Hi, you confirmed the OTRS ticket for File:4guru nigamananda.gif. Are you sure it's genuine? Because there is no sourcing to the four component pictures, and they appear to be all of some historical personalities, so I'm finding it rather unlikely the uploader actually took all of them. You removed the picture, stating "no rationale for this use and not eligible too (living person)". I understand the first part of that, but can you explain the not eligible part? BollyJeff || talk 20:49, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

The use of non-free images about living persons is not allowed, as free replacement could be reasonable created. WP:NFCC#1 says: "Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose." Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 21:21, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
"could be created" - How? Its not like we can go to India and take a picture of her. It also says you can transform the non-free content to make it free. Not sure how to do that either. Its obviously not so easy to find free stuff, or there wouldn't be so many articles with no picture at all. A very sad state imposed by lawyers. BollyJeff || talk 02:16, 17 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well "could be created" doesn't mean, that it has to be created by you. It only means it can be created, for example by an Indian Wikipedian. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 18:10, 17 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that, my previous work at FFU was with Tim Canens' AfCHelper4 script which, for some reason, I can't use anymore (I use IE) I don't know if it has anything to do with the scripts and gadgets I use, plus I was uploading at 10:50PM - 11:00PM and I only read the Accepting a request section, not the sections further down so I must have missed the info on WP banners. My apologies and thanks, —Ancient ApparitionChampagne? • 9:39am • 22:39, 21 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I use the same script too with Firefox. It looks to me, that the AfCHelper scripts doesn't support FFU anymore. At least the documentations (where it's available) doesn't contain any information about it. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 02:35, 22 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Ah yes, that must be it, since I found it strange that I could use the script on AfC but not FFU. Good to know it's not just me! :) —Ancient ApparitionChampagne? • 6:16pm • 07:16, 22 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I already uploaded the Smoky Mountain Wrestling logo, when the Infobox auto rescales it, it's of sufficient quality and resolution (not the best but not the worst either) I hope you don't mind, but I overturned your decline.
Yours is fine :) I did not see that version O.O sorry if I'm not doing the best job, I just got the hang of this, even then I'm not oblivious to mistakes ;) —Ancient ApparitionChampagne? • 9:07pm • 10:07, 24 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I just use Google Image and the first 3 version have better resolution, and reduced the size of the second. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 10:09, 24 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Ayman Lotfy submission at AfC

Hi, a consultation please!

Thanks for reviewing my first submission to wikipedia. The article has been deleted, and I am not even sure why. I was hoping to have more time to edit it, and most importantly I need some help in the references issue. The help notes were not really helpful to me. I want to consult about the reliability of the references, as in my case, all the references are from websites whether governmental or by non-profit professional organizations, professional societies and professional journals of such organizations. The name of the author and the date of being last updated are not necessarily mentioned in these websites. I wonder if this is an issue? I revised several biographies for similar professions as my article (Photographers)and I mostly found personal websites not even governmental or societies. I will really appreciate an help in this regard. Best wishes! (Saharnsaleem (talk) 18:48, 24 March 2011 (UTC))Reply

It hasn't been deleted. You can found it there: Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Ayman Lotfy. I suggest you read first the following pages: WP:RS, WP:IC and WP:ARTIST (1 section). If you have any question after you have read them, just ask. Happy Editing. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 19:14, 24 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

Thanks Armbrust for your welcoming encouraging note! I found the article but in a a status awaiting review. I wonder how to postpone this step, as the article is not ready for review yet as I am still reading the links you referred me to. Is there an action to revert the status to editing not ready for submission?? Thanks again for your help. (Saharnsaleem (talk) 19:52, 24 March 2011 (UTC))Reply

If you think the submission isn't ready to submitted, than just remove the {{AFC submission}} from the submission. (Have done it for you.) If yo think it's ready just add, {{subst:AFC submission/submit}} to the top of the submission. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 20:00, 24 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Revision

Dear Armbrust. Thank you for your support and offer to help. I read the links your referred me as well as your previous notes and re-evaluated my writing accordingly.

  1. Neutrality: I edited the work to be neutral and encyclopaedic in tone and style that would fit Wikipedia.
  2. Notability: After reading biographies of several artists and photographers on Wikipedia, I believe that the person I am writing about fulfils the required criteria of notability in his profession for these reasons.
    a. For a photographer, the person is recognized by reliable international professional and governmental organizations including Minsteries of Culture
    b. The artist has a unique style acknowledged and recognized by international professional non profitable societies and governmental organizations
    c. As required by Wikipedia, the person has recognizable achievements and awards-winning in international contests. He also contributed to Art community with several publications in the form of articles in professional journals, and books.
  3. Reliability of references: as suggested, I referenced governmental organizations (such as Ministry of Cultures), and professional reputable non-profit international organizations (PSA founded in 1934), and professional art journals. I avoided (.com) and commercial websites.
  4. For verifying the authenticity of the claimed awards by the person, I linked them to the exhibits websites. To be noted that no author names, or last time updated are necessarily present in these governmental and professional websites.
  5. Personal websites and publications were included as supplementary external links.
  6. About adding a reference to the text, I use the icon (insert a reference). Is this OK? I as I could not use reference formatting tool and could not apply reflist or reference formatting icon.
  7. Please let me know your opinion; I am opened to any suggestion that may enhance this work.

I would like to send the article first for a preliminary review before I actually submit it; how to do this step?? I appreciate A LOT your kindness and time and I apologize for the lengthy message. (Saharnsaleem (talk) 22:29, 24 March 2011 (UTC))Reply

I think it is on the right way, to moved into the article namespace, but submission needs more inline citations. It has already one, but it would be better if there were more and you could {{cite web}} to format the references. Submission should also contain links to other articles. I think it would be a good idea too to include {{Infobox artist}} at the top of the article. For you last question, see previous section. Revised ans submitted

Dear Armbrust, thanks for the beneficial comments. I edited the work as suggested. Kindly, will you have a look and advice? Best wishes. (Saharnsaleem (talk) 00:45, 25 March 2011 (UTC))Reply

Well as I can see the submission has now enough inline citations, but the references are plain links. In this current state the article can be submitted for review, by adding {{subst:AFC submission/submit}} to the top of the article. Added {{Link rot}} to the submission, because it uses bare URLs. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 11:30, 25 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Made some edits to it and I think it's ready to be submitted. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 12:21, 25 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Armbrust. The edits you did are great.. I have just submitted the work. You made this experience a pleasant one. Thanks again. (Saharnsaleem (talk) 12:59, 25 March 2011 (UTC))Reply

Thank you

Thank you very much for your patience and effort that you did to guide me through my first wikipedia article. I really want to work on the article to get to the next level. I wonder how to upload images to this article. I tried to leave you Barnstar,... I hope that I succeeded in this. Best wishes. (Saharnsaleem (talk) 14:33, 25 March 2011 (UTC))Reply

Hi, wondering why my submission for the above was rejected? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kneidels (talkcontribs) 07:22, 25 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Well it has only one reference, which isn't independent of the subject. Submission needs more third party reliable sources to confer notability. Without them the submission will never accepted. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 12:30, 25 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi Armbrust, would like to extend my warm thanks for updating our logo on the Members and Education Credit Union. I just noticed that there is a 1 px grey keyline sitting above our logo. Can you please give me some advice on how I can get this removed so that the logo displays without this grey line? Joel.grace (talk) 00:24, 28 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

The image contained this keyline above the logo. Have corrected the file. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 00:31, 28 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/The.Computer1

  1. Why on earth did you transclude that? The poor guy has 11 edits! 28bytes (talk) 16:25, 28 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
  2. Do you really think transcribing a RFA for a user with 11 edits is the best course of action?--Cube lurker (talk) 16:31, 28 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I don't see any other possible action with it. Feel free to revert. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 16:35, 28 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Usually, we just let those hopeless RfA pages die after a week. I doubt they knew what transclusion was, anyway. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 16:37, 28 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
There is one similar (Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Snoozlepet), this was created two weeks ago, self-nomination. Armbrust WrestleMania XXVII Undertaker 19–0 16:39, 28 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've undone the transclusion and left a message on the user's talk page asking him if he'd be interested in vandal-fighting using Twinkle. 28bytes (talk) 16:40, 28 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Note, I've created this related thread on WT:RFA.Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship#Policy on transclusion. --Cube lurker (talk) 16:42, 28 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I undid Snoozlepet's too. We don't need to be putting new users through that. They obviously don't know what they're getting into. 28bytes (talk) 16:42, 28 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Looks like a troll anyway, the "vandalism" edit he was proud of reverting was made by his nominator [1]--Physics is all gnomes (talk) 16:44, 28 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Moving draft articles to AfC

Hi. If you move a draft article to AfC , as with Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/John Geanakoplos from Kahnsky (talk), you should tell the user what you have done, particularly if you tag the resulting redirect for deletion. If the author is a newbie who has never had one, it's useful to give him a Welcome message as well. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 09:42, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
