Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Sports

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Sports. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Sports. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except is used for MFD and transclude xfd for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with prodded will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

I don’t see how this subject article is notable. Not by anyway meeting the WP:GNG. On the reference section number 5. Instagram reels cannot be use as a source. His just an upcoming basketball player yet to gain fame and notability that meets the general notability guideline. Even the biography there’s no reference to back them up after making my research on Google. Gabriel (talk to me ) 02:15, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No non-primary sources were given in the article. A quick WP:BEFORE gives an announcement from a city newspaper, an interview with a former coach and a routine match result, nothing that appears to guarantee notability. • Comment Outright deletion does not seem necessary, since this could at least be a redirect to one of several articles (like Charlotte Hornets, where the network is already discussed in the media coverage section). The basic facts of the network's existence are easily verifiable by a quick look in Google Books. I suspect that this article does have potential beyond a redirect, since the network served a major media market and carried an NBA team, albeit briefly. Zagalejo (talk) 01:28, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: There appears to be enough coverage to support a standalone article on the subject, such as 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 just for starters. I'd say this meets the WP:GNG, but at the very least this should be redirected. Let'srun (talk) 14:00, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This article was deleted following Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scouts-in-Exteris; I don't know why it was undeleted. Since then (May 2020) there has been no improvement, and the article consists of unverified text/OR (which, surprisingly, spends very little time on the actual organization and fails to say much that indicates notability) and a long, long, and unencyclopedic collection of linkspam. Drmies (talk) 21:55, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep and improve. Clarification is in order for the nomination statement above. Homenetmen was created in 2016 and was never deleted. The discussion from 2020 saw just 1 other editor vote on your original nom, which was in regards to a different article. It was your recommendation that Homenetmen be deleted as well, but the article was never officially deleted. Now, back to content, this is a pretty notable scouting organization with active chapters across the world. A simple google search yielded 419,000 results; WP:RS confirming WP:N is indeed there. There are several wiki articles which are integrated to this parent article like Homenetmen Beirut and Homenetmen Antelias, which makes the deletion of this parent article seem odd to me. With that being said, I do agree that a lot of work is needed to improve the article and remove 'spammy' content. With a bit of tough love, the article can be saved. Archives908 (talk) 23:59, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WP:LISTN is not met here due to a lack of coverage of the subjects as a group. As it stands, this is an indiscriminate list of mostly non-notable people. Let'srun (talk) 03:28, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yet this list only includes a self-selected number of players, many of whom have no article themselves, and has no sources discussing these players as a group. In my opinion, it is much more appropriate to have a category for the notable players who played here. Let'srun (talk) 17:45, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Which is fixable through editing, and nowhere in NLIST does it require sources to discuss the list as a group, since there are several valid reasons for creating lists. SportingFlyer T·C 18:18, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Liz: I specifically didn't !vote keep because the article's not in good shape, but I'm not a delete. The deletion rationale is flawed - LISTN does not require a source listing the subjects as a group, and it's not indiscriminate. SportingFlyer T·C 08:53, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose There's only one link to a Facebook page, the others are to a local newspaper while the others are to a very reliable site, which is in use for most minor league articles. This league is equivalent to the National League (division) in England (without the history). There's absolutely no reason to delete this article. • Delete The "oursportscentral" article is a rather typical "new job announcement" and doesn't do much to support GNG. The Vancouver Sun 2004 article is a single sentence. The Rotman article is not independent, it's one of those alumnus blurbs. While it might provide some facts it is a good bet that they come directly from the subject. The only possible significant article I see is the Vancouver Sun 2005 one. It talks about the subject as beginning a career, and given that was in 2005 I would expect to have seen later articles about a career, but I don't. Lamona (talk) 22:07, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Repeating my reasoning from 2021, but WP:NBASE now no longer exists:

Not notable. I cannot locate stats or a roster spot for this person on seamheads.com or cnlbr.org or baseball-reference.com. (B-R "Bullpen" [an open wiki] has an article created at the same time and same person that created this article.) The given source is an obit [23] that vaguely refers to playing on a Negro league team at some time. The given team ceased play in 1951 when the subject was 20, but as I stated, I cannot find any other source backing this up. (This palyer should not be confused with Ernie Smith (baseball, born 1908), also a Negro leaguer.) -- BX (talk) 01:18, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is a good example of WP:TOOSOON and WP:CRYSTAL. This is one proposal, but it is so early in the process that this article is not warranted. Angryapathy (talk) 15:22, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep They are still in negotiations with the state of Illinois on the proposal along with the new Chicago Bears stadium. That's why they are categorized under Category:Proposed stadiums in the United States. If nothing becomes of this proposal, then the category on the page changes to Category:Unbuilt stadiums in the United States. That's the whole purpose of these categories... A very easy keep. This biography clears GNG and NSPORTS by more than a lot of sports bios I've seen here. There is WP:SIGCOV in The Province, Baseball America, and Sportsnet, all of which are WP:SIRS. Dclemens1971 (talk) 01:02, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak delete I created this article as a redirect to Toronto Blue Jays minor league players, but I don't think Large is notable enough for a standalone article. The Baseball America reference is a general stat page that all minor league prospects have. In my opinion we only have 2 refs contributing towards notability in terms of SIGCOV (The Province & Sportsnet). If more SIGCOV is found I do think that the article should probably be kept. Best, GPL93 (talk) 14:49, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Baseball America link is an article, not a stats page. Dclemens1971 (talk) 16:08, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

INCDAB states: In individual cases consensus may determine that a parenthetically disambiguated title that is still ambiguous has a primary topic, but the threshold for identifying a primary topic for such titles is higher than for a title without parenthetical disambiguation. As with any other term with a primary topic, it should either be the title of the article for that topic or redirect to it. There are 2 Ray Brown baseball players, both pitchers: this one, a Hall of Fame Negro league pitcher; and Ray Brown (National League pitcher) who pitched 1 game for the Cubs in 1909. The pageviews (Negro league pitcher & Natinal League pitcher) over the last year are 3428:170, or ~20:1, which is about what it takes according to List of reported partially disambiguated article titles and their characteristics. I am arguing this Ray Brown is the primary baseball player topic (under WP:PT1) because it is highly likely [...] to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term. -- BX (talk) 00:43, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don’t see how this subject article is notable. Not by anyway meeting the WP:GNG. On the reference section number 5. Instagram reels cannot be use as a source. His just an upcoming basketball player yet to gain fame and notability that meets the general notability guideline. • Keep: There appears to be enough coverage to support a standalone article on the subject, such as 32, 33, 34, 35, and 36 just for starters. I'd say this meets the WP:GNG, but at the very least this should be redirected. Let'srun (talk) 14:00, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My fourth afd in this Anglo-Australian cricket fancruft deletion drive I have taken on. We have articles on cricket umpiring, seriously? I dont believe this should exist on Wikipedia, and I also am against a merge because all that really needs to happen is a mention of this on the respective tour pages Pharaoh496 (talk) 11:59, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List of centuries in Twenty20 International cricket (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

T20I is a full-fledged international format. Despite it being very impressive that wikipedia has every century listed on here, the number will wound up very high in the future as the scope is too wide. If we begin compiling every test and odi century - it wont be feasable. Its good to have centuries for specific tournaments - be it international or domestic. Not every international. • Keep and have a discussion about the article scope, rather than deleting. The problem.is the ICC classes every T20 match between international teams the same, and so there is a lot of pointless matches like China vs Japan listed here. WP:NOTCLEANUP applies here, so article should be kept (and I would support changing it to just matches involving test playing nations). Joseph2302 (talk) 08:14, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Rugbyfan22@Joseph2302 even if its every test playing nation only, it will still be a lot. Since there are more t20is being played, there will be a time in the next decade where this article has a couple hundred entries - constantly growing. This page does not exist for other formats. Pharaoh496 (talk) 14:30, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with your suggestion is another factor:
Lets say India and Nepal are playing in a T20I and an Indian player scores a century. That will be noted. But if in the same match a nepal player hits a century, that isnt noted. If you note that, and dont note centuries in a nepal vs namibia match, thats another conflict of exceptions.
There are times when full member teams and assosciate / non test teams play. what of those matches? Pharaoh496 (talk) 14:35, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
An afghan player scored a century when afghanistan didnt play tests. Now it does. What of that listing? You have a good faith proposal, but it wont work. Pharaoh496 (talk) 14:36, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Agree with Joseph2302s comments, needs a change of scope, but should be kept. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 10:11, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Have responded as to why that wont work, above Pharaoh496 (talk) 08:09, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Agree with the nom. This list has the potential to become unmanageable. Also, it will lack context with all T20 matches between ICC Members holding T20I status; a century made in an Australia v England match is far more notable than say Kushal Malla's 137 not out for Nepal vs Mongolia. AA (talk) 19:29, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, per WP:NOT. This is little more than a stat-dump and mirror of data held in several cricket stats databases; this is not our purpose. Disagree about arbitrarily narrowing scope as that introduces other issues. List of Twenty20 International records is all we actually need. wjematherplease leave a message... 09:24, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete Per WP:INDISCRIMINATE. Number of T20I matches are increasing, centuries are being scored more frequently specially among the associates. In future, there's a risk of this list becoming unmanageable. List of T20 World Cup centuries is an appropriate list of this type which lists some notable and rare achievements. RoboCric Let's chat 07:50, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete As much as it pains me to say, having spent plenty of time maintaining it, I do agree with this one. There are so many matches now that the list will become unmanageable. I don't think we should restrict to FM (Test playing) nations as that would then be an incomplete, caveated list, in which two centuries in the same match might be treated differently. What's more, I would suggest that we also looks at List of five-wicket hauls in Twenty20 International cricket and List of five-wicket hauls in women's Twenty20 International cricket for the same reasons (those are probably worse, I have stopped regularly working on those some time ago). Bs1jac (talk) 16:33, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
These are, alas too many featured lists we will be saying goodbye too :( Pharaoh496 (talk) 08:46, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Bs1jac: One solution could be to split the "Highest individual score" section of the List of Twenty20 International records into the top 5 or 10 scores by full member batsman and the top 5 or 10 scores by associate batsman. The records on that page are already dominated by lower-level associates. AA (talk) 13:48, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't apply to this discussion, but regardless a century is a century so it would be difficult to justify having a records page that only included selected entries. As someone mentioned here, if say Bangladesh play a lower-level associate such as Maldives in a qualifier tournament and both teams had a player score a century, we would only be including the one scored by the Bangladesh player (against a weaker bowling unit) and not the one scored against them. I am not sure this individual meets the General notability guideline. The main claim to notability is that he played for his country in 2016. This claim is not supported by reliable sources. I did some searching and found sources such as ESPN and GSA which mention the lineups without this individual's name in them. Even if if we can establish that this person made a substitute appearance in a single non-competitive match, I feel this is still not enough for notability. C679 09:25, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This article does not meet any notability standards. The most notable thing about him is that he is the father of two players, but this is Wikipedia, not WikiTree. That he managed a high school team may get him some mentions in newspaper articles, but where those don't relate to his more famous sons, they are "local newspapers", which also don't make him notable. The rest is best handled on his sons' pages. Renerpho (talk) 22:47, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Das osmnezz: GiantSnowman probably was aware of those, as they and I discussed them here previously. The article [44] is about him leading his High School team to victory. That's hardly significant. [45] and [46] definitely would be significant, if anything had ever come of those ideas. Someone's grandiose plans to take over Jamaican football, even if announced in local newspapers, amount to little if none of them ever come true. The only notable thing that Craig Butler has done was being the adoptive father of Leon Bailey. Renerpho (talk) 23:00, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Association football player who does not satisfy general notability, and does not satisfy football notability criteria because those redirect to basic sports notability which redirects to general notability. This is a contested draftification. There are three references. The first of them is a database entry which shows that he plays association football. The second and third are articles in Dutch, which, on machine translation, are about the team, and not about him.

Then this is laziness on your part as well, and you know that he plays in the Belgian Pro League, which is a professional league. Are you speaking honestly? What makes football players gain fame and value if not goals and appearances? EpicAdventurer (talk) 21:21, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@EpicAdventurer: Yes, I am, and so is everyone else. Significant coverage in reliable media sources (again, defined at WP:SIGCOV) adds fame and value, as it were, to a footballer's notability. I admit that it's surprising, but this player lacks that significant coverage. I know this is frustrating to you, but it's the only way to make sure that Wikipedia isn't filled with random articles of footballers who lack notability enough to receive full coverage. Anwegmann (talk) 23:16, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You contradict yourself and make readers laugh at these illogical responses. The player plays in the 8th highest-ranked league in UEFA and is active in the Belgian U-19 national team. The first is an interview with little secondary info, and what's there is just summarizing what he's quoted saying: Until last weekend, Matias Fernandez-Pardo only kicked off an official match once for the Buffaloes. [press conference quote from subject about his previous experience] Before the match in Liège, Fernandez-Pardo only counted fifteen minutes in the top first division this season. In January he seemed to be aiming for a (temporary) departure from the Artevelde city. [quote] I suspect the others aren't much different.

  • Keep (Improve). I wanted to say this obviously covers notability as per WikiProject Football Player Notability Guidelines only to see these got superseded, but still... while this new guideline setup will become a gamechanger, for this guy just look at some of the match reports of Sporza [56] Translated quote:

Man of the Match: Matias Fernandez-Pardo was best on the pitch by far. Since the striker got his chance, he has not let go. With two goals, an assist and some nice taps and actions definitely a player the Buffaloes will enjoy a lot in the future.

or [57] (1 goal, 1 big missed chance), or [58] Translated quote:

Man of the Match: Matias Fernandez-Pardo clearly put himself in the spotlights. In the first half with a painfully blatant miss, more than compensating this the second half with an assist and goal.

Made already too much of a name for himself to draftify. Pelotastalk|contribs 20:53, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

  • Delete. The club was founded in 1935 and such a list would purport to include players from the club's entire existence. There is a huge WP:V barrier that I don't see this list overcoming. How to verify which players played for Saint George SC, how many matches (i.e. who surpassed the 50-match mark, 100, 250 etc.) and when? To me that would seem equally impossible as maintaining and updating the list. Finally, deleting it removes nothing of value, as a category does the job much better. I'm a bit unsure about this one, as he seemed to have a rather robust career, but it was entirely at the non-league, semi-pro level. There doesn't seem to be much of any WP:SIGCOV outside of this local newspaper coverage. I'd like to see what consensus is here, as it feels like a "delete" for me, but I'm curious what others think. • Comment I don't know, I don't think redirecting to the players article helps, seems to be an important figure for the club in the 1970s and 1980s, first as a player then as a manager. I'd prefer to keep, however if not, suggest a redirect to the club page Scarborough F.C. His name is mentioned four times on the page, twice as player of the year and twice as manager. As the content on the article is sourced, it maybe a good idea to merge some of the content. Deletion doesn't help anyone. Govvy (talk) 10:42, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Maxim Novoselov has never been ranked in the top ten, has never beaten a notable fighter (or one with a winning record for that matter), and hasn't fought for any notable promotions/events. Checking his Russian Wikipedia his biggest claims to fame are almost fighting Viacheslav Datsik, getting jailed twice, and setting up a small club in prison. The article is currently orphaned as well. User:ZenZekey (talk) 07:57, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment. I think the article relies pretty much solely on this source, https://www.sports.ru/tribuna/blogs/autoblog/1020556.html, which covers the subject extensively and is solely about the subject but does not seem to be a reliable source (it's essentially a blog post). Everything else consists of passing mentions or profiles on sports pages which every martial artist has regardless of notability. I did find this source https://fighttime.ru/news/item/30275-boets-maksim-novoselov-osuzhden-na-pyat-let.html?rand=19907 which appears to have several similar articles around the internet of him being arrested again. Submitting for AfD as I believe there should be a discussion over the merits of this article. While it is backed by reliable sources I believe it can be argued quite easily that this article isn't suitable for inclusion on grounds of lacking encyclopaedic merit.

Boiled down to its core I believe this article is a clear example of WP:RECENTISM in its worst form, namely something that was created and extended as events unfolded but an article where If we apply the 10 year test it's extremely hard to think anyone will be looking back on this after any serious period of time as a notable event of history given it's an article about a non-event that never happened.

As a result I believe this should be deleted. Rambling Rambler (talk) 21:19, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

An article on this mixed martial artist was deleted three years ago after Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Denice Zamboanga as failing to meet either mixed martial arts notability or general notability. At the time, there were also multiple drafts, probably because someone was trying to game the system. The originators were then blocked for sockpuppetry. This article does not differ materially from the deleted article. The subject still is not top-ten-ranked, and so does not meet mixed martial arts notability. The article does not speak for itself and explain how the subject meets general notability. The subject's association with the ONE Championship is now verified, but "so what?", participation in the ONE Championship is not grounds for notability. The article has been reference-bombed, but nothing in the article refers to significant coverage in an article that does not speak for itself. This article differs enough from the deleted article so that speedy deletion is not in order; but it does not differ enough from the deleted article to avoid deletion. Source #4 is her brother talking, and the subject is only namedropped. Source #8 interviews her, and almost entirely consists of quotes from the subject. Source #9 ... inquirer.net is a reliable source, but that's a scanty article consisting of five sentences aside from quotes from the subject, and that barely scrapes by if at all. #20 looks like a good source. #24 is scanty routine sports coverage. I'm not digging deeper one way or another, but they're weak reeds to hang a keep. Ravenswing 02:52, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comments She has never met WP:NMMA. The first source mentioned above is an article about her brother, she is mentioned in passing because she was on the same fight card. The next three are pre-fight articles about her first match in the promotion's Grand Prix tournament (which would be typical coverage for any fighter). The final reference is a report on that fight, which she lost. Even if you believe that coverage is significant, it is all about one event. Didn't check other references, so I'm not voting yet. The first nomination was withdrawn and not properly discussed. I am not convinced the subject meets the criteria for "Sport personality" according to WP:SPORTSPERSON which states that "A sportsperson is presumed to be notable if the person has won a significant honor." which he didn't. "Meeting this requirement alone does not indicate notability", the subject still needs to pass GNG guidelines. I would like to discuss it further as the subject is not even close to meeting WP:NMMA criteria. Having fought in ACB, AFC, Brave FC, is not enough and the subject has never been ranked in the world top 10 as per WP:NMMA. Lekkha Moun (talk) 18:13, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep Greetings, Your concern is understandable. But He clearly meet WP:SPORTSPERSON and Wp:Bio , Despite of being a athlete, He has become a national symbol in Afghanistan, with support from the Millions of Afghans including former President, ministers, and other officials who recognize his achievements. His journey is completely motivator for new generation in Afghanistan and India. Besides his sports career, he is a successful motivator, investor, and human rights activist, I hope this satisfies your concerns.Parwiz ahmadi (talk) 22:07, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete First of all, I would like to ask Parwiz ahmadi What is your connection with the said article subject? You seem to have so much interest in him and you have been pleading with editors to help you save the article. You were pleading with Liz for her cooperation and telling her to close the AFD discussion immediately which the reference can be found here. You were also pleading with a user named Untamed1910 in assisting you to also help you save the article which the references can be found here. There is no Wikipedia article you have ever submitted for WP:AFCREVIEW that has been accepted. All were decline. 99% of the ones you have created and move to main space are already deleted except Din Mohammad Jurat which still doesn't also seem to meet WP:GNG. The only news was that he was fired. How does that now makes him suitable for wikipedia without meeting WP:GNG. From what I have reviewed so far I definitely support Lekkha Moun. The article should be deleted because I don't see how it meets WP:GNG either. This is a English Wikipedia, so I don't see how the sources above help.--Gabriel (talk to me ) 18:34, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Hello Sir@Gabriel601
I must say that yes, I requested Ms. @User:Liz to close the AFD according to Wikipedia's policies since seven days have passed since the AFD started. As the Wikipedia rules state, the AFD should be closed if possible. However, I did not use the word "immediately." It would be better if you speak the truth.
Secondly, my entire interest in preserving this article is due to the several days of effort I have put into it, and I am fully aware and confident that this article meets WP:SPORTSPERSON criteria. He is one of the most famous athletes in Afghanistan and is considered a national figure in Afghanistan. Parwiz ahmadi (talk) 18:54, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You told Liz to Please keep this article and close the nomination which sounds like an immediate task. Secondly effort you put about writing articles you never submitted for review doesn't matter here especially when it has now been nominated for AFD. It is a process that has to be passed since you fail to follow the right way as a newbie. Gabriel (talk to me ) 19:15, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Gabriel601 ,This matter does not concern you regarding what I have written on Ms. Liz's talk page.
Please write your own personal opinion and that’s it. you are not Ms. Liz's representative or Advisor,
In my opinion, your manner of speaking is inappropriate and offensive. I request the respected admin to take this point into consideration.
Your reaction is very unusual and aggressive. Parwiz ahmadi (talk) 20:01, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just remembered also you don't have the right to tell an admin the final decision to take on an AFD discussion. He or she can still relist the AFD if the consensus debate is still not clear. My statement might be aggressive to you but they mean no harm than to coach you. Stop moving article directly to main space without submitting them for review to avoid AFD next time. A question was asked by @Bbb23 on your user talk page but you never responded. @Whpq has also warned you regarding your edits. So nothing seems to be new. Gabriel (talk to me ) 20:23, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have the right to ask Liz to undelete your drafts? Here is an example of what you wrote:
Undeletion Draft Requests Hello Liz, I hope you are doing great. I visited your talk page because you deleted the draft articles Draft
    Mayweather, Draft

    Darlington, Draft

So, do you have the right to request Liz to undelete seven or eight of your articles? Parwiz ahmadi (talk) 20:45, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have the right to request because they were draft that was untouched after six months and deleted by Liz as per deletion of old drafts. You seem to be a stubborn newbie. Who know if that was why @Bbb23 was requesting for your previous account username. Your edit needs to be checked. If you can be moving articles to main space without review and non of your article submitted has been approved ( All declined ) on this current account. Then how would your old account then look like. I am done communicating with you. I leave the rest to other of the editors on wikipedia to check your works. @Gabriel601 This is a English Wikipedia, so I don't see how the sources above help. Non-english sources are perfectly acceptable if they are WP:RS. See WP:RSUEC. • Comment:Since I have come up as a subject in this AFD discussion, I feel "involved" and will leave the closure to another administrator. Secondly, I don't remember seeing any User talk page messages but I have been very remiss/behind on replying to talk page messages as I'm caring for a bedbound relative and find responding to talk page messages more taxing than other kinds of editing/admin work. So, I don't believe I've been influenced but will decline to close to avoid any appearance of impropriety. Finally, unless there was problematic content (copyright violations, BLP violations, etc.) I will restore a deleted article to Draft space as long as the editor knows they have to submit the draft for review to AFC so that request is not that unusual. Liz Read! Talk! 21:45, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment I don't understand what is happening with this article, but it's definitely the weirdest AFD I have been involved. There is drama, and I counted 6 different users (now blocked) that tried to close prematurely the discussion as "no consensus". Reasoning: Other AfDs including for the multi-list AfD against Damon Hill Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Formula One Grand Prix wins by Damon Hill have established the precedent that these lists are both WP:CRUFT and fail WP:LISTN as being needless forks of existing lists, they also have no notable group or set presence within discussions as shown by a lack of these such sources in the articles. Discussion also on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Formula One Grand Prix wins by Max Verstappen centres on the WP:NOTSTATS argument. Consensus exists that such lists are not notable, and on the argument for the Verstappen AfD is clearly made that such lists regardless of win number are not considered notable. This deletion request is to reflect the latest consensus. The same discussion has also been ongoing on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Formula One and Talk:Max Verstappen

When creating this deletion request, articles

List of Formula One Grand Prix wins by Michael Schumacher (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
List of Formula One Grand Prix wins by Sebastian Vettel (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
List of Formula One Grand Prix wins by Alain Prost (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
List of Formula One Grand Prix wins by Ayrton Senna (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Should also be included for the same reasons. It is the second AfD request for the Senna article, the original is here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Formula One Grand Prix wins by Ayrton Senna. I would appreciate if someone could create this AfD as it is important for the motorsport category and part of wider ongoing discussions (please if I am unable to can this be added to the motorsport project AfD)

  • Delete all bases on the current consensus on this subject which follows WP:CFORK and WP:LISTN.Tvx1 01:18, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - The main difference between these drivers and the other subjects which were deleted is that these are all three-or-more-time World Champions who should be expected to have more wins and coverage than the others. I would personally reject WP:OTHERSTUFF arguments such as those raised by the nom and above delete !voters that these drivers fall under a consensus based on the others. If these are kept, I would also support looking at taking the Verstappen list to DRV for recreation. The main difference between now the the Verstappen AfD is that he too is now a three-time World Champion. ― "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (talk)  03:01, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, @159.242.125.170:, you need to tag all of the articles you wish to bundle, not just notify on the talk pages. ― "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (talk)  04:00, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Will try, very hard to do multi-page AfDs properly as an unregistered user my apologies!
I agree that Verstappen is more notable than at the time of his AfD, but the fundamental issue is that we have no way of currently defining notability. If this AfD fails, hopefully it can set that precedent, if it doesn't then we know the issue is with the format not having proven notability.
You cite these are WP:OTHERSTUFF arguments, but I counter that I do not point to them being deleted and say that because they were deleted these should be - instead I am pointing to the logic behind them and the comments on the AfDs where many explicitly called for an AfD against these lists also. The arguments against all of these lists were made in those AfDs, hence why I have referenced them. I do believe there should be some level of consistency in how these lists exist, and if this AfD fails I will propose the creation of any articles which would logically follow (if it is three time champions, I will try and create lists for them, if it is drivers who have X number of wins, same again) but I'm not sure that these pass WP:CRUFT , WP:LISTN and WP:NOTSTATS.
The size of the grouping doesn't mean it necessitates a list - Wikipedia doesn't need a list of the list of winners of your local egg and spoon race no matter how good Mr Eggman is as the 12 time champion. Unless we can show that these articles pass WP:LISTN - "Editors are still urged to demonstrate list notability via the grouping itself before creating stand-alone lists."
If we could get 3 sources for each driver where a reliable third party, such as a newspaper of record or the like, was discussing their wins (be it listing the drivers' dominance across those, or be it ranking some of their wins perhaps?) than I would be willing to concede WP:LISTN .
Also I wish to note, Draft:List_of_Formula_One_Grand_Prix_wins_by_Max_Verstappen was denied just 2 weeks before his 3rd title, so I'm not sure that has had an impact on my claimed consensus so far.
I also remind the guidelines on WP:OTHERSTUFF do state:
"If you reference such a past debate, and it is clearly a very similar case to the current debate, this can be a strong argument that should not be discounted because of a misconception that this section is a blanket ban on ever referencing other articles or deletion debates." 159.242.125.170 (talk) 08:25, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment, firstly, I am disappointed that the nominator did not follow recommend courtesy, and notify substantial contributors to these articles, as suggested (but not required) in the AfD process. Harrias (he/him) • talk 11:44, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for causing your disappointment, but sadly I am not very well accustomed with the process and tried to reach out to people who had been involved in such suggestions in previous AfDs. I hope personal disappointment will not factor into this however. 159.242.125.170 (talk) 11:59, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    (also, Wikipedia:Please bite the newbies I hope I am tasty ) 159.242.125.170 (talk) 12:59, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep the wins by these drivers are extremely notable. Using Senna as an example: whenever another driver approaches and passes his total it is reported as a significant achievement in the press Formula1.com, Sky Sports for example. While these win are listed in the parent articles, that is only as part of their complete Formula 1 racing results, and does not give the level of detail of these articles. These lists allow interested readers to compare and contrast those victories. The lists meet the criteria for a Stand-alone list, given the length of the parent articles. The articles follows a similar style and structure to standalone lists such as List of international goals scored by Wayne Rooney, List of international cricket centuries by Sachin Tendulkar and List of international rugby union tries by Jonah Lomu. I'm well aware that WP:OTHERSTUFF is an argument to be avoided, but the presence of these articles demonstrates that lists such as these are common across the encyclopedia, and form part of the current 'meta'. With regards to the WP:NOTSTATS argument; that says that the encyclopedia should not have "excessive listings of unexplained statistics": indeed, I would suggest that by having these as standalone lists means that we are better able to provide the suitable context to avoid them being "unexplained statistics": many of the tables in the "Racing records" sections of drivers articles are more in contravention of that particular guideline than these articles, in my opinion. Harrias (he/him) • talk 11:44, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can see your argument for keeping Senna, but few other drivers are used in such a way. As I discussed earlier in this thread, if we can find sources for these lists to be notable as a set as you have done for Senna then that may warrant their inclusion on WP:LISTN - and I would agree that the racing record section can be overwhelming but without much intention to suggest they should be removed.
As for the WP:OTHERSTUFF argument, I'm not sure how useful it is because for example Rooney has many independent sources referencing the goals as a set. I can't say I've seen the same for Prost, maybe not even for any driver outside of Senna. Other than the fact it is a very long list, the group of Hamilton's impressive tally is rarely talked about at which point I would compare it to creating an article of "Letters in antidisestablishmentarianism" which is impressive because the list is so long, but aside from that, is not notable. This is an extreme but still, just because other WikiProjects have done something doesn't mean Formula One should for example. It also raises the question as to what the notability criteria should be, if we are to keep these: what level of notability makes Prost worth keeping? 159.242.125.170 (talk) 12:07, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
These lists might allow readers to compare and contrast their victories, but not in any meaningful way. The lack any of the context required to be able to take any meaningful insight (which is why WP:NOSTAT is mentioned). The margin and grid position columns are the NOSTAT violations. The rest of the columns also exist in their racing record summary. And it may vollow the style and structure for the article you listed for Rooney, Tendulkar or Lomu but the major difference is that these wins can be viewed in the articles for the respective drivers (as you acknowledge in the third sentence of your response, the same can not be said for Rooney, Tendulkar or Lomu. • Delete per nom, ladmc and Tvx1. These all are best integrated in main articles. SpacedFarmer (talk) 12:17, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom - just repeating data already presented at the home article of the driver in the career results sections. --Falcadore (talk) 15:49, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep all - they are all valid WP:SIZESPLITs of their respective articles, keeping said articles from being too hard to navigate and read. Merging all should also be considered by delete !voters, especially since SpacedFarmer's rationale is basically a merge !vote, not a delete !vote. But again, we're risking making these articles too long and clunky (per WP:NOMERGE). The LISTCRUFT essay does not apply here when these are split from their respective articles, not standalone. ― "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (talk)  16:31, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
These are not valid sizesplits, because they were not split. You are the only person who has suggested that we should be merging, mainly because those arguning for deletion (as far as I can tell by skimming the arguemnts) feel that the level of detail these articles go into (i.e. with grid positions and margin of victory) are in violation of WP:FANCRUFT and WP:NOSTATS regardless of whether they are in their own article, or in the general article about that driver. The listcruft essay does apply because this was split from the respective articles. SSSB (talk) 22:45, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: France, Germany, England, and Brazil. ― "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (talk)  18:00, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep All of them are the same as the many other such articles for sports people. Category:Career achievements of sportspeople If it won't fit in their main article, then a split off article is justified. We do the same when listing the accomplishments of actors and musicians, if their awards don't all fit in their main article, you make a side article to list them. Dream Focus 22:42, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The difference is that the accomplishment of thier race wins does fit in the main article, it is bundlged together with a breakdown of their results. The only unique information of the nominated pages is FANCRUFT and NOSTAT violations with a summary of their results (and by extention wins) accessible in the main articles. SSSB (talk) 22:48, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: These are all redundant forks of information already found at the main articles for these subjects. Let'srun (talk) 17:09, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all the articles of the respective drivers already break-down their races wins in a much cleaner and succinct way - through the race record table (e.g. Lewis Hamilton#Complete Formula One results). The nominated articles do nothing other than specify minor details. The only parts of these articles which are unique to these articles (i.e. not already specified on the main driver page) are: date, circuit, grid position and margin which are all either WP:FANCRUFT, WP:NOSTAT or both (e.g. margin and grid position lack any of the context required for this information to be worth anything meaningful. These articles serve no purpose other than to offer irrelevant and/or contextless data. SSSB (talk) 22:36, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree that this should be deleted as it is up to date with the current London Men’s League. There are other pages that should be deleted first such as London and South East men’s league or merit leagues. You are right that the Wikipedia pages for amateur Rugby League does need updating though. Camogray (talk) 15:48, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Someone AfDed all the merit leagues a while back and have all been redirect to Rugby League Conference. I have also AfDed "London and South East men’s league" with this one. While this is one of the very few that is upto date and in context with the wider system, it still needs references to comply with WP:GNG. Mn1548 (talk) 16:21, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: As it is known where this league falls into the wider structure via refs on the RLC page, I would lean towards keeping the article if a few more references could be found. Will work on incorporating those refs onto this page. Mn1548 (talk) 16:33, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No reason why this small show would be independently notable from the parent company. WP:BEFORE didn't show this event was particularly notable. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:53, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thank you for the sincere feedback. However, I believe that a proper categorization and documentation of Progress Wrestling's "Chapter" flagship events should exist. Now I understand that the early chapters might indeed be less notable than the more recent ones but I believe they should be part of the project which has to benefit from clear continuity. The presence of only some of the chapters on the mainspace would disrupt it as this continuity should be sanctioned as a book with pages. Let me know what you think. Regards! We don't have articles on subjects that aren't notable simply because later similar articles might be notable. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 21:48, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Almost all of these events are also featured on WWE Network's broadcast system as VOD shoes as Progress has held business relationships with WWE. They're pretty popular on that streaming service. JeyReydar97 (talk) 22:07, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: No coverage in RS, nothing found now. Was a decade ago, likely no further coverage. I don't see any sourcing we can use. Oaktree b (talk) 22:29, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It has video coverage on Progress' Youtube channel. I also found written coverages from two trustworthy sites. One of them is 411Mania. They should be more than enough as references. JeyReydar97 (talk) 22:42, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  •   Comment: Perhaps @JeyReydar97: could combine a couple of these early events into a larger article? Mixed martial arts does something similar for articles such as 2020 in Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki. JTtheOG (talk) 03:15, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@HHH Pedrigree: Thank you; I wasn't sure wether they had done it for wrestling events too. JTtheOG (talk) 17:31, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
