Transgender Reception edit

Me again.

I understand why you'd want to be more cautious with less proven sources but I think in this case given that the overall umbrella of sites has been given reliable status for staff writers it should be ok. Typically I'd agree it's easy to find reliable secondary sources on subjects but when it comes to discussing trans-inclusion in depth that's shockingly rare so unless there's a slightly less restrictive policy on that area we're likely to not have decent inclusion of it as a subtopic of critical reception to the game when there has been notable primary source discussion between transpeople online. Apache287 (talk) 23:41, 28 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Apache287:. Hi there, at the moment Inverse is considered inconclusive per WP:VG/RS. I would suggest two options regarding how to build up the transgender reception: a) submit Inverse for discussion at WP:VG/RS based on your point of reliable staff writers (which may very well be valid I have not looked into at length) or b) look through reliable reviews or other articles for coverage of the transgender character. TLOU2 edit

Yes, the story was criticized, that's why majority of the critics gave the game a perfect score because they decried the story. Some critics conversely faulting the story/writing/narrative doesn't mean it was not praised by the majority. nyxærös 23:48, 2 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

I will reply to this properly tomorrow.  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 00:05, 3 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
"the best narrative game I have played", "the more I reflect on it, the more I appreciate the story and characters", "gorgeous environmental storytelling"... These are the things that tell you not to remove "story" part. A similar thing happened on Heavy Rain, it received praise for its writing, controls, and voice acting; but some critics disparaged the controls, voice acting, and writing. nyxærös 08:56, 3 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Will you explain why you want to ignore what the sources say and pretend they just criticize the story? You are not summarizing the article. nyxærös 18:54, 3 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
[1] Polygon critized the story "This is a story about characters who seem unable to learn or grow, and more specifically, unable to consider the humanity of the people they kill." or "This story seems to think I need to experience ridiculous levels of virtual violence in order to believe that maybe, just maybe, Ellie should have learned a little more about her enemies’ personal situations and motivations before slamming a baseball bat into their skulls.". Kotaku critized the story saying that they disliked "Violence and suffering overwhelmed the story, felt like brutality simply for the sake of it" [2]. Moreover, Vice said "The Last of Us 2 to carry the experience, but while there is a lot of story to be told here, it doesn’t have much to say. It doesn’t take long to make crystal clear that our heroes’ revenge stories are making them the villains in other people’s narratives. Even before it begins trying to humanize the people you are busy killing, The Last of Us 2 is a game of squalid cruelty. ... It is also the growing lack of justification. Nobody ever reconsiders their quest for vengeance. Everyone acts under a kind of vindictive compulsion that goes little remarked and unexamined." [3]. GameRevolution opined that the "Story tries to do too much and goes on far longer than it should." [4]. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 19:07, 3 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hello, you are ignoring the other reviews again. We are already mentioning that the story was praised and criticized in the lead, why are you persistently removing? The critical reception section says "Some reviewers reviewers took issue with the game's narrative". A couple of reviews out of more than at least fifty does not mean the story was generally dispraised. nyxærös 19:16, 3 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thought I'd just chime in here as I was the one who changed "narrative" to "characterization" today. For starters, one of the problems we have is that the reception section still needs a lot of work, and until we balance the praise and criticism of the game fairly (currently it's about 50/50 which doesn't accurately convey the overall critical acclaim), there's going to be disagreement about how to phrase the reception in the lede. As it stands, from what I see the criticism given is directed primarily at the characters and not the story, as well as (which I believe we have no qualms keeping) the themes of violence/revenge. I don't see why negative opinions towards the characterization can't be mentioned without being seen as a criticism of the narrative itself. What also confuses things is when we have the given terms of "story" and "narrative" (which might I add are interchangeable) quoted as being both praised and criticized, and it's why some editors of the article had decided to label the narrative as polarizing. What I do contest at least is removing all mention that the story was praised when we explicitly have three examples given of critics doing just that. Wikibenboy94 (talk) 00:16, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Wikibenboy94: Saying that the characterization was criticised as opposed to the story is misleading. As shown, in those above reviews a lot of the story was criticised not just the characters. Moreover, "characterization" is a part of the narrative component so saying the story was praised whilst characterization was criticised makes it seem as if they are two separate things which they are not. Perhaps the lead sentence was should say the narrative/story was polarizing as that seems to meet WP:NPOV more than what it was before. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 10:46, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Edit warring edit

Reverting edits without any explanation and ignoring guidelines is rather unconstructive. It also makes it quite difficult to address your concerns on the talk page. I simply do not know what your concerns are. You are welcome to state them there, however. Surtsicna (talk) 16:12, 29 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Surtsicna:I gave you my exact my concerns Excessive decapitalisation, [5] yet you continued ignoring me and continued edit-warring without consensus or discussion. You failed to follow WP:BRD and continued reverting without explaining or discussing. That is unconstructive editing, I was merely maintaining the status quo. I do not care for the linking/piping but mass decapitalisation without following MOS is not helpful. [6] Here for example to decapitalised foreign secetary, even though there is no preceding the/a, among other ignorant errors. It is very unconstructive to edit war, particulary on such a high profile/traffic article.  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 03:34, 3 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Job titles such as "prime minister", "president", "health minister" or "foreign secretary" are lower case regardless of modifiers. That is the very first sentence of MOS:JOBTITLES. Surtsicna (talk) 09:46, 3 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Surtsicna: are lower case regardless of modifiers that's not true have a look again at MOS. It states: They are capitalized only in the following cases: [...] When a formal title for a specific entity (or conventional translation thereof) is addressed as a title or position in and of itself, is not plural, is not preceded by a modifier (including a definite or indefinite article), and is not a reworded description: When used as a title like Johnson was Foreign Secretary it is capitalised as demonstrated on MOS. (Also ping @GoodDay: since he commented here before). 10:44, 3 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I've read up on MOS:JOBTITLES & it appears that Surtsicna's edits are in compliance with that MOS. GoodDay (talk) 17:10, 29 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Your GA nomination of Frank Bailey (firefighter) edit

The article Frank Bailey (firefighter) you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:Frank Bailey (firefighter) for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Biden & Harris edit

I've just reverted your reverts of the intros at Joe Biden & Kamala Harris. IMHO, you should seek consensus for what you want on the talkpages of those bio articles. Anyway, I'm not interested in a long-term edit war of the topic & so won't be reverting anymore. It's up to you, how you handle the dispute, from here on. OC closure issue edit

Your non-admin closure of this discussion appears to be WP:INVOLVED, as you have previously indicated your disapproval of the measure in question. I invite you to revert your closure and let an admin handle it. I have already requested this at WP:RFCLOSE. Axem Titanium (talk) 20:17, 12 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the delay, had some irl business to attend to. I honestly forgot I commented on the whole MC/OC discussion but I suppose that means I was involved, and it seems to have already been reverted which is fair enough.  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 00:50, 19 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Understandable, it happens and irl stuff is more important than wiki stuff. Axem Titanium (talk) 18:31, 19 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Discretionary sanctions notification edit

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

So Mario isn't a girl, right? edit

this edit made me giggle. Thanks for that. Panini🥪 15:28, 25 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Panini!: Heh at least that is something positive. It is surprising the number of different articles unnecessary fill in the gender parameter (as noted on Template:Infobox character The gender of the character. Use only if not obvious.). I have gone ahead and removed it from Luigi Princess Peach Princess Daisy, though probably many more to go as well as the WP:SMALLFONT changes.  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 18:02, 25 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Paul Ritter.png edit

A tag has been placed on File:Paul Ritter.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The photo is a Getty image. A larger version with credit to Getty can be seen here and here -- Whpq (talk) 13:01, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Whpq: But I have filled out the WP:NFCC template on the page? Is the problem that the subject is too recently deaceased or are images from Getty not allowed even if it passes the NFC criteria?  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 13:12, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Getty images do not pass WP:NFCC#2 as they are a commercial photo agency and make their money from licensing these images. WP:F7 specifically names Getty as one of the examples of commercial sources that are subject to speedy deletion. Another photo from a different source should be okay so long as it is not also a commercial agency (for example Associated Press, Reuters, Shutterstock, AFP, etc. would also be a problem like Getty) -- Whpq (talk) 13:18, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Whpq: Oh I see thanks for informing me, at first I thought it might be to do with the length of time after a subject dies, as another user seemed to suggest [7].  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 13:24, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, there are editors who think that there is insufficient time elapsed to ensure that no free images of the subject can be found or made available this soon after death. I am not aware of any policy guidance on WP:NFCC#1 that support this. You can ask the other editor about this or perhaps raise this question at Media Copyright Questions. -- Whpq (talk) 13:38, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Whpq: Great thank you again for the infomation. I was thinking about uploading this image of the subject [8] (the one behind a brick wall) tried reverse image searching and could not find Getty or one of the big agencies, is it possible for you to check to that it is not speedy deleted like the last one?  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 17:07, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
I was able only to glimpse the article before a demand for registration blocked me. I did not see a photo credit. I do see the same image being used in obit articles on other sites like this one, also with no image credit. As best I can tell, this isn't from one of the commercial agencies. I suspect it is a supplied publicity photo from Riiter's agent or estate. -- Whpq (talk) 17:44, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
