Wikipedia Ambassadors update

Hi! You're getting this message because you are or have been a Wikipedia Ambassador. A new term is beginning for the United States and Canada Education Programs, and I wanted to give you an update on some important new information if you're interested in continuing your work this term as a Wikipedia Ambassador.

You may have heard a reference to a transition the education program is going through. This is the last term that the Wikimedia Foundation will directly run the U.S. and Canada programs; beginning in June, a proposed thematic organization is likely to take over organizing the program. You can read more about the proposal here.

Another major change in the program will take effect immediately. Beginning this term, a new MediaWiki education extension will replace all course pages and Ambassador lists. (See Wikipedia:Course pages and Help:Education Program extension for more details.) Included in the extension are online volunteer and campus volunteer user rights, which let you create and edit course pages and sign up as an ambassador for a particular course.

If you would like to continue serving as a Wikipedia Ambassador — even if you do not support a class this term — you must create an ambassador profile. If you're no longer interested in being a Wikipedia Ambassador, you don't need to do anything.

Please do these steps as soon as possible

First, you need the relevant user rights for Online and/or Campus Ambassadors. (If you are an admin, you can grant the rights yourself, for you as well as other ambassadors.) Just post your rights request here, and we'll get you set up as quickly as possible.

Once you've got the ambassador rights, please set up at a Campus and/or Online Ambassador profile. You can do so at:

• Special:CampusAmbassadorProfile
• Special:OnlineAmbassadorProfile

Going forward, the lists of Ambassadors at Special:CampusAmbassadors and Special:OnlineAmbassadors will be the official roster of who is an active Ambassador. If you would like to be an Ambassador but not ready to serve this term, you can un-check the option in your profile to publicly list it (which will remove your profile from the list).

After that, you can sign on to support courses. The list of courses will be at Special:Courses. (By default, this lists "Current" courses, but you can change the Status filter to "Planned" to see courses for this term that haven't reached their listed start date yet.)

As this is the first term we have used the extension, we know there will be some bugs, and we know the feature set is not as rich as it could be. (A big wave of improvements is already in the pipeline. And if you know MediaWiki and could help with code review, we'd love to have your help!) Please reach out to me (Sage Ross) with any complaints, bug reports, and feature suggestions. The basic features of the extension are documented at Wikipedia:Course pages, and you can see a tutorial for setting up and using them here.

Communication and keeping up to date

In the past, the Education Program has had a pretty fragmented set of communication channels. We're trying to fix that. These are the recommended places to discuss and stay up-to-date on the education program:

1. The education noticeboard has become the main on-wiki location for discussion of the Education Program. You can post there about broad education program issues as well as issues with individual courses.
2. The Ambassadors Announce email list is a very low-traffic announcements list of important information all Ambassadors need to be aware of. We encourage all Ambassadors (and other interested Wikipedians) to subscribe to the list; follow the instructions on the link to add your email address.
3. If you use IRC regularly, or need to try to reach someone immediately, the #wikipedia-en-ambassadors ^connect IRC channel is the place to find me and fellow Ambassadors.

Ambassador training and resources

We now have an online training for Ambassadors, which is intended to be both an orientation about the Wikipedia Ambassador role for newcomers and the manual for how to do the role. (There are parallel trainings for students and for educators as well.)

Please go through the training if you feel like you need a refresher on how a typical class is supposed to go and where the Ambassadors fit in, or if you want to review and help improve it. If there's something you'd like to see added, or other suggestions you have for it, feel free to edit the training and/or leave feedback. A primer on setting up and using course pages is included in the educators' training.

The Resources page of the training is the main place for Ambassador-related resources. If there's something you think is important as a resource that's not on there, please add it.

Finally, whether or not you work with any classes this term, I encourage you to post entries to the Trophy Case whenever you see excellent work from students or if you have great examples from past semesters. And, as always, let students (and other editors!) know when they do things well; a little WikiLove goes a long way!

Books with l - o - n - g titles

Yeah, there was a time period when those long, paragraph-length titles were in style. Librarians use the title page of a book for the title, rather than the cover. For those really long titles, I tend to go with the part of the title page with the largest font, and treat the rest as fluff. Usually the fluff doesn't help the reader locate the book, which is one of the purposes of a citation. I see that the Library of Congress has cataloged the Wisconsin Blue Books, starting in 1862, as a series, with the title, The Blue book of the state of Wisconsin. Probably each edition actually has a different long title. I'm not sure what a style manual would suggest. Do you have a copy of CMOS? -- Mesconsing (talk) 20:33, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi Mike. I've unblocked this user, based on a (huge, but) pretty convincing unblock request on their talkpage (including a change of username). Normally I'd consult with the blocking admin, but I reckoned you would probably have made the same decision I did, under the circumstances. However, if you disagree, I will not object nor consider it a violation of WP:WHEEL if you reblock or ask me to do so, since I took action without discussing it with you first.

(In case you find the unblock request a tad tl;dr, I'll summarise: he's not promoting Lawson Media Works, but will still change his username; he doesn't quite get how Wikipedia works (who does?) and he'd like to revise and improve the AFC page on HDtracks, with whom he is not connected, to bring it in line with the guidelines.)

Thank you for approving the unblocking. Yeah, my plea was huge, but I've never been known for my brevity. I often joke I am a publisher, not an editor. I hire editors to cut things down to size. I always tell my authors to turn in more than is needed as we can always chop it down. In any event, last I heard via email, a, trusted Wiki volunteer, Kevin Rutherford, said he would take a stab at helping me edit the original entry into something acceptable. Hopefully he is able to find the time to do this for me. I genuinely thought my very first entry was acceptable. It was flagged for references, but not content. Then after I fixed that, it was flagged for content. So I did a hail-Mary pass and tried to write it out some more, then it got blocked. Subjectivity must be something Wikipedia volunteers wrestle with, since everyone could form a different opinion on the same sentence. I'm sorry if I've caused anyone any hassles. I have plenty to learn about Wikipedia, and hopefully this experience trying to get an HDtracks page will be my trial by fire that makes future entries more palatable to the reviewers. Manish Sharma (Panasonic) should not be mentioned as Non-notable Corporate Bureaucrat

I made this page Manish Sharma (businessman) on Manish Sharma who is the current Managing Director, Panasonic India. There are certain issues with the page, the biggest one being that Manish Sharma is being termed as a Non-notable Corporate Bureaucrat. In my opinion this is not correct. I understand that we need to provide proper facts/references to support it and here they are:

I would start with a statement from The Economic Times (Category-A Business newspaper in India) here, "Japan's largest consumer electronics company, Panasonic has for the first time ever appointed an Indian to head its flagship consumer durables business in the country. Manish Sharma (41), erstwhile head for sales and marketing of Panasonic India, has been promoted as its managing director from April."

The Daily Caller may not be in your eyes a "reliable source" because they have don't have a "neutral point of view" but that doesn't change the facts in the case. Dan Nainan Vandalism

Dan graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, Maryland in 1979.

was recently added to the page its citation was a vidio that had text which was a word for word copy of the wikipedia page. This line is a poor citation and should be deleted.

Hello Mike. I was the one that initially posted a link from Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School, which claimed that Dan graduated in 1979. This was ultimately replaced by a link to a video. The truth be told, I believe someone is maliciously editing this site with biased, non-factual posts. I believe that someone changed my legitimate reference to that silly video, so you would simply remove it. At the end of the day, this site should be driven by facts and not the desire to promote ones own interests or misdirect or mislead readers. When you have a chance, please look at my lengthy retort to Nerdypukkid, under his "Recently added and poorly cited" comment. Personally, I believe you should lock Dan's page. It's erroneous and I am tired of continually straightening it out. I donate to Wikipedia, on a regular basis, on that belief that it provides a venue for accurate and relevant posts - Not unbiased self-interest or misleading information. Thanks kindly. Hello sineBot and Orange Mike Ive viewed the citation attached to Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School and it is valid and it does say someone named Dan Nainan was part of the class of 1979. I think that line that talks about his HS woud be best between the sentence ending in Bloomington. and before the sentence Befpre becoming a comedian. That way its cronilogical. I did not add the line about his high school so i don't feel comfortable altering others work.

Second him graduated in 1979 contradicts other articles written about him putting him in his early 30s while if he graduated in 1979 and assuming he graduated when he was 17 or 18 would make him in his 50's. Not to mention taking on look at him he does not look like he is in his 50s but late 20s early 30s. I think there must be another Dan Nainan because both the first and last name are common names. I think since his age is provided by relevant and notable sources such as CNN NYtime and NYpost we put his birthday back to his orignial day as 1981 (i beleive) or if not possible list it as disputed untill something with his full birthday not age comes up or evidense that shows that Dan Nainan the comedian is same Dan Nainain that graduated highschool in 1979

I think the best explanation is that a different Dan Nainan graduated graduated on that date. The reason i think its different people is the news sourses such as CNN and Nytimes can't write things that are not true or backed by fact because they would loose there credibility. I'm not going to make changes anypart of the Dan Nainan page that i did not create myself. I would like to hear your desicion and hope you put back his birthday back to his orinal stated age because thats backed up by notable sourses

I didn't add that section, and if you paid attention to what you were doing, you would know that. Throwing around vandalism accusations willy-nilly is pretty irresponsible on your part.

As someone who lives in Virginia, and who is far from being hostile to Morrissey, I can testify that the last version that appeared was factually correct, though I don't care for the sources, either. As a Wikipedia editor, I'd say it was far more neutral than the two other versions I have deleted (you're not alone in that). I'd prefer the editor who put it in stuck to reliable sources, but I have no doubt that the incident described can be sourced to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, rather than Tucker Carlson's digital rag. And it's a serious enough event in Morrissey's life that it belongs in the article somehow.

Orange Mike, can you look at Eric Zorn to see if it should be deleted. The article is like a promotional piece, even including multiple direct links to Zorn's blog. And there are no reliable sources at all; the only sources are to the subject's own newspaper columns. There's also some nonsense content such as "Eric has a grandkitty, Wednesday Zing, by way of his son Alex and Alex's girlfriend, Kayley", "each December Zorn joins with Schmich to host "Songs of Good Cheer", and this entire section. The IP editor who created the article also created an article for Eric Zorn's wife Johanna Zorn on the very same day. Lets say I agree with you. Don't you think the best way to deter PR participation would be to let them get frustrated by getting their articles rejected for promotionalism at AfC? Blocking them for being a PR person doesn't really deter anything right. Just means a larger volume of usernames and socks you can't keep track of. It's counterproductive.

I don't think the notification needs to be more firm. If someone isn't willing to read and follow straightforward instructions, then maybe they shouldn't be here. The expectation is that they will follow the instructions of their own volition, not because we enforce or require it.

Wikipedia has very little use for links to sites controlled by the subjects of articles, since such sites are not independent, lack the requisite neutral point-of-view, and are extremely unlikely to be reliable sources. Wikipedia is supposed to be a source of reliable impartial information. If you attempt instead to use it for promotion and to further the reputation of somebody, then that effort is likely to turn out badly, especially if you do not heed the messages you are given. In general, no, we don't find that links to a Facebook page are helpful for someone researching the topic. They're usually added by someone looking for Facebook followers/friends. In the future it would be best to disclose your conflict of interest and use the Talk page, so an editor can explain the rules, instead of edit-warring. The outcome might ultimately be the same (the link still doesn't get added) but the experience may feel more friendly.

Wikipedia does not allow direct promotion. It is after all an encyclopaedia, not a promoters tool. 1. "German-American" refers to nationality, not to language spoken.
2. Alsace (not Alsatia) became a province of France in 1648, almost 200 years before Brumder was born, and it was within the sphere of French influence for many years before that.
3. Alsace did not become part of Germany until 1871, many years after Brumder left there.
4. In 1871, most Alsatians objected strenuously to being annexed by Germany, considering themselves French nationals. Tens of thousands of them moved from the province rather than be ruled by Germany.
5. How does this article benefit from labeling Brumder "German-American", when it clearly describes his strong ties to the German-American community?

The German Alsatians such as Brumder were almost obnoxiously proud of beeing German-American; the Germania Building's missing statue was of Germania Triumphant, a statue created after the Prussian victory in the Franco-Prussian war of 1870; but it's certainly not worth getting into an edit war with you, one of our most valued Wisconsin editors (along with RFD, of course). I've read extensively in the history of Germany, Alsace, and Lorraine, as well as German-American history. I've never found anything to support your assertion that Alsatians were "almost obnoxiously proud of beeing German-American". They may have settled near German immigrants because of the common language, but everything I've read says they maintained their distinct identity as Alsatians, not Germans. I suspect it may have been a Brumder thing. My reading of Alsatian history is that Alsatians have always had a strong regional identity (i.e., "Alsatian") that is neither French nor German, although they have always maintained a French national allegiance. Collins has said "Alsatians also have an intense loyalty to France whose citizens probably have a stronger feeling of national identity than those in most other European countries." That refers to today, but of course, that loyalty didn't crop up yesterday. Newer work examining the period of German rule (1871-1918) suggests that opinions, feelings, and identity were very complex, if not quite all over the map. And authorities always tried to redefine Alsace's past (e.g., revisionist history) to legitimize their political maneuvers. It's not surprising this is a difficult topic.

COI issue at Rushka Bergman

Hi Mike. I was posting a comment on User:Mathonius's talk page and happened to notice this thread, where User: 24.39.127.109 admits to being the personal assistant of Rushka Bergman. She said her name is Callie Beusman. The IP also made this edit where she admits her connection to the Bergman. As you'll see, IP 24.39.127 hasn't simply been editing the article, she has actually been the primary editor of the article and, most importantly, seems to be under the mistaken impression that her boss owns the article and can therefore demand what content stays or goes. It surprises me that no one has addressed the COI issue with (the editor claiming to be) Bergman's personal assistant (24.39.127.109); the only activity on her talk page are some mild warnings for content removal a few weeks ago. And when someone with a clear COI posts a comment to a reverting editor like this: "Everything that I removed I was personally instructed BY RUSHKA BERGMAN to do. I would kindly ask that you please stop replacing the information once I take it off. This is an instruction from Rushka Bergman",[3] it's clear that there's a big problem. Haha. Template Creation Question

I am helping User:Geremy.Hebert create this template User:Clarkcj12/Edit War Prestiege, we were wondering is there a way to make it so, if I create a param for the revert number, that the message will change when you change the revert number, so like if you put number 5 in the revert number param, it will produce one message, but changing the number will replace that with another message. He wanted to allow the template to be Subst: so, I know if you subst the template, then chaining the number won't do anything once its subst'ed. William T. Green

Hi-I thought you might be interested in this article about William T. Green. He was the first African-American lawyer to practice law in Milwaukee. He died in 1910 and I am trying to track down Wisconsin Bar Association proceedings if the Wisconsin Bar pay respects to William Green when he died. Userpage advice

Mike, in the wake of our "that Raven?" exchange, I've written myself an actual userpage to answer that question from others... but with substantial misgivings, and I'd appreciate your advice as (1) an experienced Wikipedian (2) who knows me, and will take into account I left that page only one line long for six years. I dislike boasting; I detest braggarts; and the whole Essjay affair ought to have left everyone permanently wary of claimed expertise, especially as argument ammo. I've never brought up such things in arguments, only pointed to resources and asked people to go look for themselves (e.g. in Talk:Theban alphabet). To say, now, "Yes, I'm that Raven, the one who did that and that, and that over there, and yes, that too, and yes, who'd have guessed it, the same Raven who did that...." could easily sound as much like a brag as a statement of identity or background or interests. And all the past years I've spent not mentioning such things won't be applied to my credit, once I do mention them. Or so I worry. Please look, reassure me, or suggest improvements in approach. (1) Writing Systems (scripts) interests are quite separate from languages spoken, especially in cases like Khitan, whose last recorded surviving speaker/reader/writer was Genghis Khan's imposing advisor Yeliu Chutsai * — his lineage had been the fallen empire's royal family. The vocabulary we know of is similar to Mongolian; I won't say "amazingly" because the peoples lived in the same area, and I think it likely Khitan as the overlapping older empire's language influenced (≈ "was related to") the younger one's. Talking about Khitan like this is one thing; but putting up a Babel box and claiming I speak it?! pfffft.

(* Respected, oh yes, but not a hero to this unhappy singer.... "Do-ora Tengri-de, anda-nar, chilugetai unu!")

(2) Again, post-Essjay, it goes against the grain to make any such claim about any language, script, or topic at all. Either what I'm saying (writing) demonstrates some discernible degree of fluency / familiarity / genuine research, in which case the claim is unnecessary, or else not, in which case the claim is foolish. Besides, if I were here all the time for people to find me, hanging out my shingle might make sense (if people could trust shingles). But I'm only intermittently here; people shouldn't wait around for me. What I do is show up where I feel I have something to contribute, and contribute it (as at Talk:Theban alphabet)... and you'll notice even that has been met with dead silence — I'm sure it's simply because, like me, all those other people simply aren't on all the time; the next time they get on, *I* will be on hiatus, and so forth... the debates will simply take place at a far more glacial pace than the Internet usually affords. — Raven (talk) 06:46, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

He's still listed as a living person here on Wikipedia, and everywhere else I looked; I found no mention of his death; what's more, note his residence is Tucson AZ and now see this other Tucson resident's obituary: "John Branham, 53, died January 11, 2013... is also survived by uncles, Peter and Barry Hughart and three stepbrothers." "Almost a decade ago": any word of his death then seems to be what Mark Twain called "greatly exaggerated." I wrote Jerry Kuntz, who'd interviewed Hughart in 2000, and although they haven't stayed in close touch since, Kuntz got email from Hughart in 2010, only three years ago. This BLP of a Virginia state politician has had a section titled "Women's rights" removed without explanation four times in the last week--three by two different IPs, and once by a new named account. All three have edited this article only, and none of the five delete edits has had an edit summary more descriptive than "removed text". The section, while it appears disproportionately long, does appear to have reliable sources, and the deletions appear to be an attempt to remove any negative material about the subject.

Cung Le's Wikipedia

It seems that random IP addresses continue to revert his page to change his Ethnicity and Nationality to strictly just Vietnamese. I have provided many sources that label him as either a Vietnamese-American or a South Vietnam-born American, meaning he is currently an American that happened to be born in South Vietnam. In the talk page, a Mod had stated that he is indeed in fact an American based on all the sources. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Cung_Le Comment This is very clear, he was born in South Vietnam but all that does is make him "South Vietnamese born" place of birth does not equate to nationality (otherwise Australia would have a british prime minister); there is a source here that calls Le "South Vietnamese-born American" therefore unless someone can show with an equally reliable source he is a national of another country then we go with American. Needing an Admin again... Deja Vu?

Hey, there's an article: Dragan Petrović, that appears as a promotional piece, written probably from the subject of the article itself. The entire article stems both from the guy's personal site and Facebook page. The piles of photos originate there, leaving doubt as to copyright. Whomever is (doing an exceptionally bad job) editing, is untrained, doesn't edit any other articles. Once again, this is about a jazz musician being edited by someone with a username of User:Jazzycrazy, both on Wikipedia and Commons. As you know, I went through all of this with a person editing their own article, and how badly that turned out. Fortunately, I don't know this person, but I find once again the same clues as to possible copyright issues with the pics, probable violations of WP:OR, and more. This article was tagged in January, 2010-- three years ago with a question of notability. THREE years ago? I concur. If the subject is willing, and other editors work on it, and can provide appropriate references I haven't any issue with him keeping an article on the Wikipedia- I even checked out his music on You Tube (liking it, too!) thinking the article would just need an infobox and cleanup, but I do have a problem with people who create and edit their own articles, primarily to promote their own careers, which it really seemed to look to me. I had a previous problem with the same circumstances with a different musician and it became a bad situation, which is why I am not the person to make choices of any kind about this, and why I was asking User:Orangemike both because he was instrumental in resolving that scene, and because he's an Admin., and seems to be fair. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 10:19, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

That was my fault (i.e., the DO-It Center is notable; I failed to properly present and cite the material). I used your critique to address the issue of notability by adding additional information on DO-IT's nationwide and international programs, Awards, Impact, etc. I also replaced "self-sourced" citations with notable third-party citations (New York Times, Seattle Times, etc.). If you have any feedback on other ways I can improve the article, please let me know.

Big battle and apparent COI at NWA Hall of Fame

I just wanted to make you aware of an editing battle between User:Ericsax and User:HHH_Pedrigree at NWA Hall of Fame. Ericsax has made dozens of edits (adding championship titles for wrestlers) to the article since October and then HHH has reverted all of those edits in two reverts of about 37,000 bytes last month and 20,000 today.[5][6]. I have no idea if Ericsax's content is appropriate for the article or not (HHH thinks it's "too much") but in the past few hours Ericsax has added back all the content that HHH removed, and he wrote an edit summary which is essentially an admission of a conflict of interest, as well as a huge misunderstanding about who "controls" Wikipedia articles. His edit summary says, "Please do not undo this again. I have the permission of the NWA to put all the NWA titles the NWA Hall of Fame Member has won."[7] So it appears that Ericsax works for, or has a close association with, the NWA, and mistakenly believes that the NWA controls the content of the article. I want you to understand that I have the permission of the NWA owners to put ALL the NWA titles that the NWA Hall of Fame member won in the NWA. HHH Pedigree originally deleted my work after the new members were announced last year.

If HHH pedigree believes that the NWA Hall of Fame page should not include all the titles from the NWA, then the WWE Hall of Fame page should not include any references from the NWA, AWA, Mid-South or anywhere else. It should be focused on what that person in his accomplishment in the WWE, not the NWA, AWA or others.

Last year, the NWA allowed a small number of people including myself on a committee on Facebook call the NWA HOF Committee, to help decide who was going to be inducted into the NWA Hall of Fame last year.

I am not sure if you are a wrestling fan or not. I will use this as my example, if you asked either Dory or Terry Funk, Harley Race, Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes (or his sons Cody and Dustin), Jerry Brisco (brother of Jack), Sabu (nephew of the Original Sheik), the family of Freddie Blassie, and many others that they would want to have all of their NWA titles they won on the page of the NWA Hall of Fame.

Please understand that until the 1990s, the NWA only controlled 2 titles for the men (World Heavyweight and World Junior Heavyweight) and the NWA Womens title. All the other titles were company titles.

I have had a private discussion with one of the NWA owners on Facebook over the weekend and quoted this to me "Thanks for your efforts to fix the wiki page" on Saturday at around 11:00 am.

Ericsax, your comments, particularly the opening sentence saying that you "have the permission of the NWA owners" to add certain content to the article, indicate that you either have not read Orange Mike's comments on the NWA Hall of Fame talk page, misunderstood them, or are inexplicably choosing to ignore them. The NWA and its representatives have absolutely no say in how the article is edited. The article belongs to Wikipedia, not the NWA. The NWA has zero authority over the article's content. In fact, they have a gigantic conflict of interest, as Mike clearly pointed out. So even if you in fact had "a private discussion with one of the NWA owners", it is meaningless. Article content is completely controlled by Wikipedia's volunteer editors, based on the encylopedia's policies and guidelines. I have no opinion on whether the content you want to add to the article is worthy of inclusion or not, but you are welcome to to discuss it on the article's talk page with other editors in order to achieve a friendly and productive consensus. In any case, I'd strongly suggest that you stop invoking any personal connection you may have to the NWA; it's only hurting your cause. Please, just listen to what Mike is telling you. Hoplophobia and homophobia

Hi Mike I would love to have a discussion/debate with you how I feel that your removing my editing was in fact disruptive as it shows a possible political agenda. If the two words which came into use at approximately the same time are both not listed as "pejorative neologism" then neither should be. I was not trying to be disruptive, rather I felt that the same standard should be applied to both words.

The histories of the two terms are totally different, and must be addressed separately. Cooper, sole coiner of the word "hoplophobia", openly admitted from the git-go that with he was making up a cute pejorative, a term calculated to imply that his political opponents were neurotic if not insane. If you feel the article on the term "homophobia" needs improvement, discuss it on that term's talk page. For all I know, you might be right about that word (though bluntly I doubt it); make your case in the appropriate forum. Also it seems you assumed that I was not honestly doing this in good faith as it says an admin should do. WP:DSAN. I was. I do admit rather stupidly I missed the talk page (I see it now) and will propose there. If I could figure out who to complain to a council of admins (surely something like that must exist) regarding my greievnce I would. user cazimir - your note

orangemike - I wasn't using this account but used it for some additions to historic/geographic articles and just through mindlessly continuing, you are right in that a conflict of interest has developed that now looks rather stupid, for which I apologise. I'm afraid that's the process of wanting to be contributive but learning wikipedia, making mistakes, and having two young kids - although none of those excuse. I've done a bit of reading since receiving your user talk note, before replying. A lot of that I should have done when picking up things at the beginning, but life sadly doesn't happen like that.

In reference to the Frink School article, it was reasonable for one of the former students of a small independent school allied to one of the important British sculptors to place it in context, but it now looks a conflict as all the non-notable alumni have disappeared following your edit except a link to what is now me. It would be better with no mentions of prior students at all. I think there is other evidence to support the School's 15 year history, and the alumni are not the reason for its notability in art historic terms, I think.

More importantly, I'm concerned about the objectivity of posts of anything that I've edited that has concerned a link to JE... do you want me to review this myself, or suggest how I liase over this? I think about 80% of my edits are concerning other sculpture or art or heritage related subjects, and just general corrections when I happen to be browsing. On the other items where COI must have existed, I'm fastidious about the objectivity of independent/public domain references...(i.e. some recent additions to the JE page, where the most obvious, blunt conflict exists) but of course even my objectivity will be subjective.

A salutory lesson, but please advise what is best course of action and I'll put some time to it. I'll hopefully be a better editor as a result, if given the chance. You'll have to advise what is best course of action with the user... do I just continue but make well sure I'm not doing anything with close connections, or do I need to end this user account? Please advise...

User B: Remove (And was WP:Hounded with revert by User D on another article Talk page, corrected by a 3rd party)

User C: Remove

User D: Retain

User E: Retain

User F: Reword to make less contentious - provides an example sentence.

User G: Reword to make less contentious

User B tweaks User F Sentence.

User E: Agrees with re-word edit.

User A: Agrees with re-word edit.

User B: Agrees with re-word edit.

User F: Agrees with re-word edit and asks why User A "Made a new account to just fight this one issue.".

User G: Agrees with re-word edit.

User D: Makes no attempt at compromise.

Per WP:EDITCONCENSUS - the process appears to be an edit is made since we found a compromise.

User B makes the compromised edit to the article. User D reverts stating consensus has not occurred, use talk - but does not make any contributions, says what is wrong etc....

User A, the one who initiated the RFC suddenly turns red (No longer exists) - possible hack - user had no history of abuse/etc..(Is there any way to check for banned/blocked users quickly?)

User B gets a DNS Poison attack, with google redirecting what looks like the Wikipedia page - but its the foundation page. (Unknown to all) Cleans DNS issue and still "kickin"

User E ....suddenly request formal closure, since there is no consensus....which is weird, that user agreed with the tweaked sentence a day before.

BLP Help!

Hey again. I must say I had asked many others to read and review my post. They had all given a thumbs up and much pain has once again been felt by many at the deletion of it once again. We had some victims all rejoicing last night at the many nods of approval we had received. It is the small victories we take pride in as fighting against victim-blaming (especially amongst minors) and rape/abuse cover up (especially in schools/churches). This is an uphill battle to say the least. We need to come to an agreement on this topic. 1.) How the model of therapy used at a therapeutic school is wrong to even delineate I have a hard time understanding. I said nothing positive or negative about it and cited the published books written by the faculty of JDA promoting these methods. Question about reverting

I would like to revert this users edit see this diff back to the user User:VIAFBot but the user that made the vandalism edit was an IP address as shown in the history logs, the thing is that also since that edit the User:Addbot did the migration removal of the Wikidata Projects interwikilinks for that page witch is a legitimate edit. So I can't revert it as under vandalism. How should I go about reverting it to before the Vandalism but without wiping the history of the Addbot edit? • I can't speak for Mike, but it seems that this is a pretty clear-cut case. First of all, your account was blocked because it violated our username policy: Wikipedia:Username policy. Second, the page you created, The Atlas of Human Cardiac Anatomy, was both promotional and contained a huge amount of copyrighted material which could, in addition, only be described as promotional (and could, conversely, in no way be described as neutral). Third, one wonders what content you wish to access, since most of it was copied from pages such as this one and this one. If it's the coding you wish to preserve, that's unfortunate, but the page as you had created it was in no way acceptable for Wikipedia anyway. I hope this answers your questions. I will not be re-posting this article myself, as I'm sure it would be a waste of time. I would like the code for future reference on formatting. Regarding the copyrighted material I was in the process of filing the documentation needed for free use per CC-BY-SA 3.0 after the page was deleted (When I uploaded the files I listed that I am the copyright owner and didn't realize that this was not sufficient since it is in an option when you upload. I'm still confused by this to be honest.). I was wondering, is there an acceptable way to have a page made by someone neutral- e.g., could I ask a student who is not involved with the project to create the page? Mike Kernell

Thank you for fixing the "Democrat incumbent" that I missed. I am not particularly fond of that particular phrasing either. As for your question in the edit summary, the only reason there is an article on him at all is because of his son's activities right before the 2008 elections; the article was created the day before David Kernell was arrested (after the FBI interrogated him). Notice the redlink on the incumbent who beat him in 2012? I suspect that most of the TN assembly members and senators are in the same state. Unless someone goes through and systematically adds at least stub bios for everyone who has served in the state legislature, most of those people won't get articles unless they get elected to the US Congress or the state governorship. (Some states are better covered; I am pretty sure that there are several states which are complete or nearly complete for legislators elected in the past 20 years or so, but I'm not sure beyond that.) I really think Kernell's BLP (in its current tragic state) is a coatrack, but there's no way it would ever get deleted at an AFD, and partisans on both sides would be screaming about "Wikipedia whitewashing" or something similar. Mike, I have never seen a block like this before and I can see where it's coming from, but in future, please bear in mind that sometimes there is potential that these new editors could become valued contributors to Wikipedia. Hi Orangemike, A few months ago you helped me as I was creating and researching the Brad Hatfield article. Since then I've created a couple more articles. I just noticed today that the Brad Hatfield page and an older page I put up, Andrew Left, have been slapped with COI tags. No reasons are given. I'm not connected to either of these subjects, or any other subjects I've written about on Wikipedia. Can you review and, hopefully, remove those tags? Thy Worshiper

Hello Orangemike, Thy Worshiper (talk · contribs) asked on the Help desk for some assistance in sorting out a mess they created in regards to Thy Worshiper (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). I'm not an administrator, so I can't see more than the few characters that show in the edit summary which say the page started with an external link. Could you tell me if there was any other content on the page, or was it most obviously without a doubt a spam page? The comments of the user suggest to me that (s)he may be entirely unaware of what they have done and not have the experience required to navigate the help pages to figure it out. It was shamelessly promotional; appeared to be taken from their MySpace and/or Facebook pages, etc. The author also used an infobox template from the Polish Wikipedia. Steven Kropper

Mike, can you please advise Skropper to stop editing his own article? A few days ago, you wrote on his talk page about the article, although your comment was a little off-topic because the article has existed for four years. Anyway, just prior to you warning him, he had complained at the help desk about a couple disruptive edits to the article. That prompted another editor and I to clean up the entire article to remove all the self-promotion, puffery, and other nonsense. It looks like the article was created by a family member of his. Whether Kropper is even notable is another issue, but we just wanted to get the article cleaned up. Anyway, hopefully you can counsel Skropper about COI. Hi-An anon editor has been editing the Political subdivisions of Wisconsin by removing some citations and taking out sections. The anon editor revert myself saying no citations were taken out.
