essay

Hello Oshwah. Is it okay that I email you one of the essay's I am planning to write for Wikipedia and ask you to review it? Thegooduser Let's Chat 17:27, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

Thegooduser - Of course you can :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:54, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Sock

Hey, Oshwah! Can you take a look at Papaw1298, please? I'm pretty sure they are the same person as Calebf19279 who you blocked as "vandalism only account" on April 13. Both accounts have been changing the birthdate for Charley Pride. Maybe we could get the article protected at a higher level so newcomers can't edit the page and have to use talk page or something in that nature? Thanks, Corky 20:14, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Corkythehornetfan! Looks like the account was confirmed and blocked - thanks for the heads up, and let me know if you see any more suspicious accounts like this and I'll be happy to take a look. Cheers ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:54, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Heads up

Just in case my ping didn't work, I mentioned you at ANI (in a nice way, of course). RivertorchFIREWATER 21:18, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Rivertorch - It's all good; thanks for the heads up and for letting me know. I hope the matter was taken care of ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:54, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
It was taken care of, but who knows what the future will bring? Unlike my socks, which keep disappearing, Wikipedia socks have a way of multiplying. It's uncanny. RivertorchFIREWATER 16:42, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Rivertorch - For every real sock that becomes lost in real life, a Wikipedia sock is born... lol ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:45, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

The Personal History, Adventures, Experience and Observation of David Copperfield the Younger of Blunderstone Rookery (Which He Never Meant to Publish on Any Account)

Hi Oshwah!

Could you please redirect this title to David Copperfield? -- 209.52.88.253 (talk) 01:03, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

No, that's full of POV and not acceptable - Is this a book title? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:10, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
Actually, it's the full title of David Copperfield, apparently one of over 14 variations of the title that Dickens used for his novel. It's far to long to be a useful redirect, as no one is likely to type all that in anyway. - BilCat (talk) 18:43, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
Ah, thanks for letting me know, BilCat. I was gonna say... if that wasn't the exact title of a book or something, then that's a ridiculous redirect to create ;-). I agree; the probability of someone typing that entire thing, capitalized, exactly as-is and expecting to find the article is extremely low. It's not worth creating the redirect at all. My apologies go out to you, 209.52.88.253 - I should have asked my question first instead of wording my response that way. Re-reading it makes it look like I was making the assumption that this was an attempt to add POV and it reads as if I was scolding you or something... haha. Now that I know that this is in fact an exact book title, I don't like how I inadvertently worded that reply. Please let me know if you have any more questions or need anything else, and I'll be happy to help you. Best regards and thanks to you both - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:01, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Aid to Families with Dependent Children

Hello Osh, If you have time, could you have a look at this edit please? (The ES leaves a lot to be desired also). It's obvious that the content is going to be controversial but it may have a place in the context of the page, where it is quite neutrally worded and is included as part of the history of the subject as ways in which it received comment or criticism. As such, my inclination was to restore it but would like a second opinion. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 10:53, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Eagleash - Good Lord, what a... what an interesting edit summary there lol. Hmm, that's a toss-up (reading the diff briefly)... on one hand, the references are reliable. However, when I see content saying "(particularly blacks, whom he considered to be genetically inferior to whites[...])", taking any race or controversy out of the equation - that may be considered an opinion if anything. What do the references say in particular about this suggestion? I wonder exactly how this is being asserted and what content in the references support this and what they use to base this off of... that's what I would look at. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:16, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I revdeled the edit summary, but left the edit as it was. It's possible that's more detail than is required to make the point. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 15:19, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
I agree with SarekOfVulcan - I'd leave it removed for now, or at least until everything is checked. If everything comes together and this content should stay without issue, then it can always be restored at that time ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:27, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Right, thanks both. In the meantime, another editor has picked up the page and made multiple changes. As I don't really have the time to devote to it just now, I shall leave them to 'get on with it' :P. Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 12:18, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
Eagleash - Come back any time you need something. Until then ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:09, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Somnath halder - The article you're mentioning has been nominated for article deletion. The discussion is located here, and it contains the nomination statement and reason, as well as the input from other editors regarding whether or not it should be deleted. Before participating there, I highly recommend that you read and understand Wikipedia's guidelines on notability (specifically, the notability of people) as these pages will help you to understand the requirements and basis in which the article will be discussed and how deletion vs non-deletion is determined. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. I wish you good luck and happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:06, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Pool listings on NameCoin Page

Dear Oshwah,

Got a message from you regarding removing my

Mining Pools
post on the Name Coin page.

I feel like their is a place for an enclclopedic index of the mining pools for the various cryptocurrencies as they are both part of the coins fundamental infrastructure and a very useful reference for anyone actively participating in the NameCoin (or other cryptocurrencies) community.

Hope you undelete my addition, or can help provide me guidlines in which it would be allowed. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by KoinKangaroo (talkcontribs) 17:01, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi KoinKangaroo - It seems that you're adding this website to multiple articles and the manner in which it's presented appears to be in order to advertise its existence... are you personally involved with this website or currency in any way? Do you maintain the website, update it, know people that built it, or anything that would create a conflict of interest in this aspect? Let me know. I'm not asking in order to kick and scream at you; I want to help you, but I also want to help you the right way so that you stay clear of any potential issues ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:57, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly Oshwah. I am working for multipool.us and working to cleanup any lack of or misstated information I find online. That said, I appreciate that only adding multipool, seems advertisy, but knowing that this is a community based service, i was under the impression that other pool owners or the public would now have a place to add their pools or relative knowledge. --> In a community sense, i'm happy to add a few pools that i'm not affiliated with to reduce my bias. Also wanted to add this reference http://coinwik.org/, which is an example of how the crypto community is wiki'ing each coin, and does include pool information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KoinKangaroo (talkcontribs) 19:25, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi KoinKangaroo and thank you for your honest and candid responses. I appreciate that you're willing to stop, talk, listen, and understand instead of doing what most users do and ignore us and force us to block them and send them away without bothering to understand why... haha. So, to answer your question: a few things you need to know is within Wikipedia's policies - It's not designed for any advertising or promotion, and all content modified or added must reflect a neutral point of view. Going off of the second policy with neutrality: you'll of course understand that editing or contributing to articles or topic areas where you have a personal conflict of interest becomes a problem; underneath it all and based on your edits - it seems that the intent is to add your website to Wikipedia from articles. Ask yourself: would you still be making an effort to ask about or create this list of pools that you don't have a connection with if yours wasn't added to the list? Not by you or anyone? Ever?
Again, I'm not posing these questions to point fingers and imply or make accusations toward you like I'm some detective who found the "wiki bandit" (lol); I'm saying these things to help you understand why neutrality and COI policies and guidelines exist on Wikipedia, and why your edits (and even your ideas stated here) have problems. Users and editors on Wikipedia are expected to contribute to article topics and areas where they have no conflicts of interest or other factors that would otherwise compromise neutrality. There isn't a list of websites like this maintained by people who build it together and then add their own to it because, well - that's not neutral. Plus, good Lord.... think of how many huge lists of non-notable companies, teams, websites, buildings, whatever you think of -- that Wikipedia would have! There of course are articles that are lists of things - we have lots of them, but they're comprised of items that meet our notability guidelines and hence either have their own article or a subsection of another one. I can't go to List of web browsers and add my college software project of a web browser to it... first, I'd be in violation of COI (of course), and secondly that thing isn't notable nor does it meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines... not by a long shot... lol. I hope my response has helped explain why your edits and ideas have issues, and that you understand that I appreciate you for taking the time to message me, respond, listen, and understand. You're of course allowed to make edit requests for other users to review and update the articles themselves if they don't see issues, but I'll tell you that you'll honestly be wasting your time as the users will know what's going on and they'll decline it. If you have any more questions, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again, and best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:43, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time to break down the wiki policies Oshwah. I'll work on a reproach that isn't biased or include commercial interest, but genuinely contribute to the content for each coin. Do you think that an external link to a "mining pool comparison" specific to each coin would fit that description? Becuase honestly when you posed the questions, would I post this if i wasn't affiliated, the answer honestly is actually yes, becuase as an individual crypto miner, being able to quickly identify available pools would be a major plus on an educational reference guide such as wiki, especially in the case of mineable cryptocurrencies as it truly is a fundamental part of each coins infrastructure and for newbies, often times lost or confusing based on the lack of consistent information available online. If/when i do repost something, i'll make sure to have it edited/reviewed by others. Thanks again for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KoinKangaroo (talkcontribs) 09:48, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Thegooduser - I think you're off to a good start here. The introduction is a bit short but it's certainly not bad at all, and you have a list of some some good examples of what you describe as "low-key vandalism" (I'd almost call it sneaky vandalism maybe). It's missing a few things that would improve it and add an overall flow to the essay, but that's absolutely to be expected with that first revision and creating the page is essentially what will help resolve that. Other editors will be able to look at it and give you guidance from there. Writing inspiring and informative essays isn't easy, so don't feel intimidated or that you have to have an idiot like me look through it and give you their blessing or a thumbs-up before you can create it. We all have to start from somewhere before we can learn and do better; don't feel like you have to be "this good" or that what you've written has to be "this awesome" or "this perfect" first. Shoot, look at the first revision of most pages here, and I guarantee you that they'll be quite different than what they are now. Your heart is in the right place and you're doing this in order to help others and hence help improve the project - that's really what's important and what truly matters and nobody should give you a hard time or discourage you. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:37, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Philippa Baker edit

Hi,

Philippa Baker, the Australian actress, is my mother. Currently her birth year is incorrect on her Wikipedia page. I'm not sure what source I can give you, other than to say I've seen her birth certificate and she was definitely born in 1932. Late 1932 at that.

There doesn't appear to be a citation for the 1931 date. I'd be curious know where it came from.

Amanda — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.164.253.124 (talkcontribs) 05:16, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

You're right... there's no reference at all. I fixed the issue by removing the birthdate added to the article. Thanks for leaving me a message here and for expressing your concern; please let me know if I can help you with anything else and I'll be happy to do so. Happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:19, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

How do I cite a website which is full of legitimate citations? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.47.181.62 (talkcontribs) 05:16, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

You can start by reviewing and understanding Wikipedia's guideline to locating reliable sources, as well as Wikipedia's policy requiring all article content to reflect a neutral point of view. These are two important policies and guidelines that you are having issues with, and reading and following the information outlined on those pages will help you to resolve them. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to help you. Thanks for the message and best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:22, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for your help

Hi! I'm new to this and working on editing skills. Thanks for giving me info on how to do this! My son, Carson Kropfl, is the inventor of Locker Board skateboards. He was recently on Shark Tank. You can check out his website at Lockerboard.net. I'm trying to learn the system so that I can set him up with a Wikipedia for his company, Locker Board, and for himself. He's starting to do TED Talks and has a lot of press that has happened and more on the way. A friend told me I should get him set up on Wikipedia to help people from around the world find him. His first TEDxKid Talk is going to be available online in a few weeks and will go out to 11 million people. He shared his story (how he got on Shark Tank and landed Sir Richard Branson as his investor at the age of 11) - and it's super inspirational. I think he's going to have a lot of people searching for him when it hits. He inspires people to go after their dreams by seizing the moment, never giving up and believing in themselves. I wanted to get this set up in time so people can learn about him when they see the video. I'm a little overwhelmed trying to figure it out. Any help and information you could send me would be amazing. Thank you so much.

Hi CarrieAnnTanner, and welcome to Wikipedia! Have you taken Wikipedia's new user tutorial yet? If not, I highly recommend that you go through and complete the tutorial entirely before you do anything else. Else, you'll be missing out on very key important policies and guidelines that will help you to understand how to contribute as positively as possible here as well as why it's not appropriate to add content to articles about someone you know personally (things such as Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, conflict of interest guideline, and how the community interacts and discuses disputes or problems). If you have any questions or need any more help after completing the new user tutorial, come back to my talk page here any time and don't hesitate to ask me for more help... Regarding Justinian I

My University of Hawaii exam has a section on Justinian I and his connection to Macedonia, I supplied references providing supporting evidence to include the information that was provided, did you review my citations prior to removing the expansion conducted? If wikipedia does not wish to display the information requested by my College course, I can search else where and accept my professors statements regards the corruption of Wikipedia as valid and current, is this what wikipedia stands for? — Preceding unsigned comment added by CancerianOx (talkcontribs) 17:28, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi CancerianOx, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns. The reason that I reverted your edit here to Justinian I was because you added content that also injected adjectives and opinions into it, which is in conflict with Wikipedia's policy and requirement for all article content to reflect a neutral point of view. The issues with your edit that I noticed include calling the article subject's education "excellent", or the subject a "mature man" at the moment of his enthronement, and even listing two facets of Justinian’s foreign policy that you felt were the most important - these kinds of descriptions and wording are what steer content toward non-neutral wording and commentary, and are things we need to avoid doing at all when editing articles or adding content. I also owe you an apology: you made two edits to the article and I only meant to revert the one I cited above; I've restored your first edit and I'm sorry for accidentally undoing both. If you have any questions or need any assistance, please let me know and I'll be happy to help you. Again, I welcome you to Wikipedia, I appreciate your message, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:40, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Anti-Vandalism against sock-puppeteer

Thanks a lot Oshwah, but I would just like to let you know that this Sock puppeteer User:Kishfan is the original mastermind behind all this edit warring in the first place. He has been continually vandalising multiple pages and has smartly used multiple aliases to trick other users defending against Vandalism and get them banned on the context of edit warring while he himself has been able to escape the consequences of this actions. I kindly request that action be taken against this user immediately. Wolf Cola (talk) 20:30, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Wolf Cola! Thanks for the message and for the information - I'll take a look into what you're presenting here and see what evidence and information I can pull up. Let me know if I can help you with anything, and I'll be happy to do so. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:33, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
He is actually vandalising many other articles also, I am tempted to revert his disruptive changes but I am avoiding it as I do not want to start a similar situation of edit warring. What can be done about this? Thanks. Wolf Cola (talk) 20:52, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
Wolf Cola - In a nutshell: If you look through the history of Mohammed Rafi and look at the content you were actually reverting, I think you'll understand where you went wrong during this particular situation. The content being kicked around was this; which in itself isn't a violation of policy or anything that should be the basis of an edit war like what happened there today. You just need to make sure that you're mindful of what content or text is actually being added or removed before you proceed to engage in any kind of action. If it's vandalism, blatantly disruptive edits, the obvious stuff - then yeah dude... have at it - 3RR doesn't apply then. But if we're not sure of if someone is a sock or banned user, and the edits in question are content-related, this is where you want to be careful. Sure, revert if it should be. But don't repeatedly do it if there's no strong evidence or if the content at the center of the issue isn't blatantly obvious. When I saw the history page on that article, I saw 50+ reverts between you and an IP and that the content being reverted was (what looked like to me) small NPOV concerns... and that's why I blocked both of you... to peel you both off of that article and stop the disruption... lol.
I want to drive a point home that I hope will make you feel better: don't be afraid to revert disruption or vandalism if you know for damn sure that it is. If the content you were reverting on that article was blatant vandalism or disruption instead, that IP would have been toast and I wouldn't have touched your account at all. You just need to be cautious and get help during situations where it's not abundantly clear and the issue at-hand is in any kind of grey area, and don't engage in revert warring (even with a suspected sock) if the content is not such that needs to be removed pronto. You of course are 3RR exempt if removing edits by socks, banned users, etc - but if nothing is blatant, assume that you don't have that exception. You'll keep yourself outta trouble that way ;-). Does that make sense? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:05, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
Yes I definitely do understand, thanks for the helpful points you provided here. I think that user Kishfan smartly tricked me while I was reverting his distruptive edits and used the same evidence to wrongly report me for Edit warring while he continued to make his distruptive edits under multiple aliases. I was merely defending against vandalism and it was my mistake that I didn't report him for edit warring when I should have, as he had long broke the 3RR before I had. I still btw think that he is using many accounts to carry out his motives. I think his case has to be investigated here. Wolf Cola (talk) 22:12, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

About a disambiguation page

Hello Oshwah! I've added a new line in the TFH disambiguation page that you immediatly removed because I apparently forgot to add a source link. Does the link I added in the title of the line doesn't count as a source link? — Preceding unsigned comment added by FlutterTal (talkcontribs) 20:53, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Plus I really don't care... it's just a talk page; it's not like he's doing any real harm and it all goes away in the click of a button... lol ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:39, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Pornography on Wikipedia will stop donations

Hi, I have donated previously to Wikipedia. In the review of the book Charlotte Simmons, pornography appears. That is, accompanying the term "oral sex" is a full color picture of two white people pornographically performing it. Children look at Wikipedia. It is a crime, corruption of a minor, to introduce children to pornography. I wonder why you chose white people, who make up a small percent of the world's population, for your pornography? Why are they heterosexual? Hmmmmm. I deleted "oral sex" with the pornographic picture, and replaced it with "unnatural sex". As soon as Wikipedia removes itself to the Dark Web and announces to parents and children that no one under age 21 is allowed on the website, then you can go ahead and publish pornography. I am an adult and can look at pornography if I want to. You cannot work at Wikipedia, which is used by children, and push pornography. That is illegal. If you wish to corrupt children, then I would like to know if you have discussed this with the people who raise money at Wikipedia? Have you discussed it with the police in your jurisdiction? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tuttoaposto21 (talkcontribs) 23:13, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Tuttoaposto21 - Okay, so after reading your message here, I can say that you have a very high personal point of view with this topic, and you should not be editing any content that involves such matters. May I suggest that you instead edit other articles that interest you that doesn't involve this topic, and where issues aren't going to cause you frustration and other emotions like this? Remember that we here to build an encyclopedia - this isn't a project to write "this is wrong" content, or "this is right" content, ... this is a place to write neutral content. If this causes problems in certain topic areas for you, then you shouldn't be contributing to those topics and instead should be editing articles in different areas. This way, neutrality is maintained and the content added to articles reflect the highest quality and neutrality that can be created and published. If you have further questions or concerns, please let me know and I'll be happy to help you. I appreciate you for leaving me a message here and for expressing your honest thoughts and feelings. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:17, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

 • If you do not have an account on UTRS, you may create one at the administrator registration interface.

Just Chilling - You can close the ticket; I've unblocked this account and apologized for what happened - I mistook the account for one of Royer's socks that were hounding at me today, and all has now been undone. Thank you for sending me a poke regarding this UTRS request so that I could be aware of what happened and take care of the issue. Which date needs to be removed? You're welcome to remove those dates yourself.... I'm much much less concerned about COI issues when you're removing content that's in violation of policy because it's unreferenced; it's when you add content to articles that you have a COI with that makes things potentially problematic. If there's no reliable source provided to verify the information, it's gotta go. If you'd rather have me fix it instead, that's completely fine too - just tell me what I need to remove and it shall be done :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:48, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

Why did you block ActuallyCardiB it’s actually her. Look up Cardi B goes undercover on YouTube. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.191.4.45 (talk) 07:49, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

See Wikipedia's policy on usernames - we block all accounts with usernames that are the name of an obviously notable person. We do this until the person verifies their identity using our process to make sure that no impersonation is taking place. The user simply needs to complete that process and the account will be unblocked and it'll be smooth sailing from there for them :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:03, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

This is what you're looking for and will help you to accomplish what you need to do. Better yet, have you read through and completed Wikipedia's new user tutorial? If you haven't, I highly recommend that you do this. You'll be at a much greater advantage and have a much smoother and easier start on Wikipedia if you do. Oshwah,

I am sorry you removed my text for this article. Much of what I wrote, I observed personally. However, there are citations.

I was not sure about how to provide the citations. They are below. However, I will not rewrite and resubmit the section as I wrote it off the top of my head. So I have no copy.

Hi there! I hope you received my response message on your talk page. Awesome, it looks like you've taken quite a bit of time to find references here! We just need to cite them in-line with your content, and you'll be golden. Every edit made to any page, new or old, can be found, read, retrieved, compared, and linked to by looking through the page's edit history (it appears as a tab labeled as "History"). I was able to retrieve a copy of your changes here - this will save you a lot of time if you wish to use it to improve your next edits there. You just need to review this page here for details, information, and tutorials on how to cite references in-line with the article content. Once you've gotten this down and have taken your content and done this, you'll be A-OK. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to help you. Thanks for the message, and best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:32, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

Anything wrong with this page?

Here. Seems to be describing themselves. Are they allowed to call themselves things like that? Thanks. Adam9007 (talk) 17:39, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

Adam9007 - Nope, it's a G10. For all we know, they could be creating an account to impersonate someone else and this is why they're creating those pages and calling "themselves" those things. Definitely WP:NOTHERE ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:41, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

Vandalism at Nero Claudius Drusus

Hi! You recently blocked at IP user who was vandalizing the Nero Claudius Drusus article. (Thank you!) Now IP address 2001:48F8:2A:159B:EC72:1317:8582:8750--likely the same person--is vandalizing the article in the same way. Can you please block this new address and lock the article so only registered users can edit it? I appreciate your help and your great work on the encyclopedia. YoPienso (talk) 19:33, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

YoPienso - The IP range is now blocked for one week. I'm going to hold off on protecting the article for now so that I can see if this user is still able to evade their block somehow. It'll let me gather more information and data and apply a more efficient block ;-). Let me know if I can do anything else for you and I'll be happy to help. Have a great rest of your day and I wish you happy editing. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:38, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
Thank you! That was quick.
Actually, there's been some trouble at the Leo Tolstoy article for a few days now. I've rarely requested blocks, but User:Randy Kryn insists on adding an unwarranted detail to the article and is filling up the talk page with his "reasons." I think it's best for the article to not allow Mr. Kryn to edit. YoPienso (talk) 19:54, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi, and please study the issue, and I reminded Yopienso about WP:BOOMERANG. The talk page discussions were started by other editors, the request for a source about the inclusion in the Leo Tolstoy article has been provided, and I am answering their concerns in hopefully a respectful and complete way. I agree that it's got to the point where an admin should look in, and I have raised the possibility of taking the discussion to RfC status. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 20:01, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
YoPienso, Randy Kryn - Is this still an issue that I need to look into? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:34, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
As of yesterday, Kryn was arguing for including Bevel in the Tolstoy article, but for almost a week now he has stopped edit warring. Thanks for asking, and sorry for burying this in a totally different request. YoPienso (talk) 06:13, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
YoPienso - No problem, and no apologies are needed. I'm just glad that the edit warring has stopped :-). Thanks for the update, and I hope you have a great rest of your weekend. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:16, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Admin

How many years of editing do you think I need for me to be an admin?Thegooduser Let's Chat 20:53, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

Thegooduser - Ideally, the community will want to see a minimum of at least a few years of tenure and with a consistent amount of edits to show a solid activity level - but a user's tenure and edit count alone is absolutely not an indicator that you should use to gauge as to whether or not you're fit to be an administrator or whether or not you'd pass an RFA. The criteria that users will generally look for when when judging a candidate are listed on this page (which you and anyone else should absolutely read before running for adminship). To answer your question without going in-depth with it all, is that you're asking the wrong question if you simply want to know how long an editor should have an account for before running. There have been users who have passed an RFA for having an account below the average amount of time than most; likewise, there are users what have been here 11, 12, pushing 13 years - who will never become administrators. If you have any more questions, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:07, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
Guess I'll never become one Thegooduser Let's Chat 21:10, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - Jeez... that's not the attitude you should allow yourself to have... not just with being an admin someday, but like ever... lol. Aside from that, if you're standing in front of the "requirements list" or whatever, and you tell yourself something like that, then you're not only selling yourself short and giving your self-esteem a nice punch to the gut, you're also looking at the whole thing the wrong way. Users who became good administrators didn't stand there and tick boxes and run though the the "RFA hoop" crossing their fingers; they were already doing the awesome things that the community looks for in good candidates for adminship, and the role transitions over to you naturally and without much change to what you already do. This is how you should think about the "pathway" (so to speak) to adminship.
Now, don't think for one god damn second that I'm standing here today telling you this because that's what I believed and that this is how it all worked for me and how perfect I was... because I'd be lying to you and trying to put wool over your eyes, big time. At the time that I ran for my first RFA (that failed), I felt that I was ready for the tools. When I ran again the next year, I looked back upon that time one year back and I knew that I absolutely was not ready for the admin rights at the time. Experience, maturity, tenure, so so many things change over time, and I saw it as a good thing that that my first RFA failed. From my lack of maturity and experience, I was blind to it at the time... but then I looked back a year later and where once I was blind, I then could see... I wasn't ready to be an admin and for many reasons. Shoot, standing here today, I could give you a whole list of reasons as to why my second RFA should not have passed and how different things were from then until today. My point is that you shouldn't sell yourself short, and that you shouldn't stand here today and tell yourself that you can or can't do something or will or won't be someone that you ultimately have to work on over time in order to determine if you are... it's not possible to do, and you don't set any goals if you just tell yourself that it'll never happen.... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:23, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

Dixon Bloods

Hello, there may have been a mistake as I corrected an article regarding the Dixon Bloods reclassifying them as Black Canadians instead of simply Somalis as backed up by the already listed sources. As these people are Black Canadian citizens based in Toronto, Canada. This correction is completely factual also due to the fact that they are not all of Somali descent which made the ethnicity portion questionable. I was just trying to keep the wiki page up to date and correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LowFlo (talkcontribs) 01:34, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

States and territories in Asia issue

I in no way shape or form intend to vandalize on this website or any of its pages and I always make an effort to be a responsible user on Wikipedia. However, I regret that my edits and modifications have been deemed as such as I am only trying to reflect a more politically correct depiction of what are sovereign states. Also, I understand and acknowledge that Palestine is not a fully forged sovereign state but Me including it in this section does in no way take a subjective and partial stance on the israeli Palestinian conflict or disputed states in genera but solely is due to the fact that it is recognised by 136 (70.5%) of un members and is an observer state of the UN, while the rest of the partially recognised states are all recognised by only 18 or lower UN members and are not members or observers of the UN with no participation whatsoever. Thanks for your kind help at WP:ANI

Hi Oshwah, thanks for your kind offer of help in response to my concern at WP:ANI:Request_topic_ban_for_new_SPA_Aheezau. (I tried to make wikilink but could not figure out how to do it.)

I was reading your talk page and really valued this quote from you, which also expresses my own, much more amateur viewpoing:

Remember that we here to build an encyclopedia - this isn't a project to write "this is wrong" content, or "this is right" content, ... this is a place to write neutral content. If this causes problems in certain topic areas for you, then you shouldn't be contributing to those topics and instead should be editing articles in different areas. This way, neutrality is maintained and the content added to articles reflect the highest quality and neutrality that can be created and published.

Meanwhile, the new editor Aheezau who was causing my concern has stopped editing for the past 24 hours, so maybe we won't have to worry about him, although a new IP simultaneously showed up at one of his targets, Al Giordano, with a dual goal of adding defamatory material and removing text and citations that show notability. May not be the same person, though. To be clear, I just want an informative NPOV bio of Giordano, as of EVERY OTHER BLP in Wikipedia!

If you look at my user page, you can see my main interests: supporting WP:BLP policy (mostly for people I noticed on Twitter), reviewing AfDs especially for BLPs of women, and drafting text on topics that interest me. I love the Wikipedia project and I am glad you are also part of it. By the way, I speak a little Mandarin and I notice your description of how to pronounce your name includes tone elements. May I ask what language your name comes from? All best, HouseOfChange (talk) 01:55, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi HouseOfChange! It was great to speak to you on IRC not too long ago, and I'm glad you appreciate my quote and enough to put it on your user page. It brings a smile to my face. Speedy Deletion Notice Response

The footnote by the author of the source states "The author grants permission to copy, distribute and display this work in unaltered form, with attribution to the author, for noncommercial purposes only." Drawing heavily from the page as a source for an important nuclear accident seems to not break the authors permission. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.106.93.211 (talk) 03:13, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

Citing G12: "This applies to text pages that contain copyrighted material with no credible assertion of public domain, fair use, or a compatible free license, where there is no non-infringing content on the page worth saving."

The source in the Fleurus Nuclear Accident of 2006 does not apply due to the above clause and the fact the author of the source does explicitly make provisions for non-commercial use.

Will the page be restored?

Best, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.106.93.211 (talk) 03:21, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

Are we talking about the Fleurus Belgium Nuclear Incident article? Looking at the references, it does state this on the bottom of the page as you stated here - you are correct. However, the permissions at the bottom of the page state that it must be in unaltered form (which it was), but the information being cited was not within quotes as required and discussed in Wikipedia's copyright policy. This doesn't mean that the article should have been deleted per G12 as you state here - it just means that I'll need to refer your question to others who are more experienced with this and ask for their input too. If they agree that this is not a copyright issue, then yes the page can be restored no problem. I'm going to ping Huon and TonyBallioni for their input regarding this situation - stand by. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:19, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
The copyright notice says, "in unaltered form, with attribution to the author, for noncommercial purposes only". Wikipedia considers only those licenses free enuogh that allow everybody to re-use and modify the content for any purpose, including commercial purposes - more precisely, they must be compatible with the CC BY-SA 3.0 license. We cannot make use of content that others may not modify (since anyone editing that Wikipedia article would violate the "unaltered form" requirement and thereby unwittingly commit a copyright violation) and that cannot be re-used commercially (that's more a philosophical requirement; Wikipedia wants its content to be as widely reusable as possible and thus does not accept a "non-commercial only" restriction). Huon (talk) 00:35, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
I concur with Huon. Non-commercial licenses are not compatible with Wikipedia. TonyBallioni (talk) 00:54, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Huon, TonyBallioni - Good call by the both of you; thank you both very much for providing input and for double-checking my thoughts :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:01, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

My edits were constructive

Hi, my edits were constructive. It is unacceptable to insist on using incorrect terminology and medically inaccurate descriptions and phrasing. I don’t know why you think my edits weren’t constructive or why you reverted them. I wrote this Medium article about you here. I think it is a gender inequality issue that the information quality in the Wikipedia page for the clitoris is so abysmal and I believe this is reflective of the gender imbalance on Wikipedia as a whole.

https://medium.com/@jessica86/how-geeky-dudes-are-preventing-accurate-female-anatomy-from-being-disseminated-on-wikipedia-323954cf5ebf?source=linkShare-437fc91ea47b-1525667325

I suggest you take a look at a real live clitoris. Alternatively, since those may be difficult to acces and confusing to you, you may also find slides and cadaver dissections useful. The clitoral cavernous are visibly easy to differentiate from the glans. Histologically these structures are separate and composed of different types of tissue. Obviously the glans is never much longer than it is wide. Consider how ridiculous it is for this article to claim an average “longitudinal diameter” of 5 mm and then say the glans is 1.5-2 cm long. Also consider how claiming the clitoris is over 3 times longer than it is wide contradicts the claim elsewhere that it is the size and shape of a pea.

I realize that Wiki editors insist that incorrect information mistakenly published in “reliable sources” should be repeated. But this is clearly ridiculous. There is only one “reliable source” claiming the glans is 1.5-2 cm long and that author has personally emailed me confirming that was a mistake. Believe it or not, even medical authors make mistakes! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jessicapin (talkcontribs) 04:36, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

Jessicapin, for the last time: You are not a reliable source. Also, out of curiosity, when a source states that the clitoris "is a short, cylindrical, erectile organ," do you doubt that the source is solely talking about the glans (like some scholarly sources have noted), given that the clitoris is not simply a short, cylindrical, erectile organ? Here we have an "Oxford Desk Reference: Obstetrics and Gynaecology" source, from OUP Oxford, page 471, stating, "Clitoris: it is a short, cylindrical, erectile organ at the superior portion of the vestibule measuring approximately 1.5–2 cm in length and 1 cm in width." I take it you interpret the source to be talking about what you stated on your talk page -- the external body and glans? Well, as long as we have reliable sources stating "external body and glans" for the "1.5–2 cm in length" part, it's fine for us to state that. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 05:00, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
“A short cylindrical organ” would apply to both the descending segment of the body and the glans. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jessicapin (talkcontribs)
Jessicapin, sources would need to state that. This is what I mean by WP:Synthesis. Even though so many sources are talking about the glans clitoris when they state "clitoris," I avoid stating "glans" unless the sources do. This is to avoid WP:Synthesis. There are sources that state that the average clitoris is 1-1.5 cm long, and then there are ones that state the average clitoral glans is 1-1.5 cm long. We can only go by what sources state. Also, regarding this, you keep stating that, but you keep coming back. That's because you are as passionate about the topic of the clitoris as I am. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 07:11, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi Jessicapin, and thank you for leaving me a message here with your thoughts and concerns regarding the edits you've been making to the Clitoris article. I'm sorry to see that you're frustrated over the dispute - and on top of this, I owe you an apology for warning you and stating that your edit to the article was vandalism. While this issue and dispute is clearly over content-related matters on the article, your changes were not vandalism and it was not right of me to warn you and call it such. That shouldn't have happened and I'm sorry for that.
Moving past that, I do see that there's an ongoing dispute on this article with the content you've been trying to modify and that there's been push-back from others as a result. I also see that you've been active on the article's talk page and participating in discussions there. This is awesome, and I encourage you to continue doing this and to continue working to resolve the dispute properly. Outside of the article itself, you seem to be trying your best to do the right thing - you're collaborating on the article's talk page and you're trying to work with the other editors involved in order to try and come to a consensus with all of it. You'd be surprised as to how many people choose not to this and instead resort to being disruptive in order to try and solve the problem. Just make sure that you don't continually make repeated back-and-fourth reverts to the article, as this would constitute edit warring. This behavior is disruptive and doesn't ultimately resolve anything, and I don't want to see you get into hot water or wind up blocked for doing so. Whether or not your proposed changes are found to be correct and/or an improvement to the article or not, I feel that you should have a fair and respectful place and environment to discuss it with others, and I'll do my absolute best to make sure that you do. If you have any questions or further concerns, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to answer them and help you, I'll make sure that you proceed going down the right paths in order to bring the dispute to a resolution and close. I hope you enjoy your day, and I wish you happy editing and all the best :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:02, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

Jan Hirt

Hi Oshwah. Quick question about your edit on Jan Hirt - is it simply someone socking, or something else going on? I do see a few of these type of edits crop-up on my W/L from time-to-time (expanding terms for now defunct countries, etc). Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:56, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

Lugnuts - This IP, through their edits made to other articles and a report filed against them, was determined to be a repeat vandal and hence I reverted all of their live edits from these findings (including the edit to Jan Hirt that you saw). I didn't have any more involvement from there - I would just keep an eye out and make sure that these random edits you see on your watchlist are accurate, and ask for references if you have objections. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Cheers ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:23, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

removed content

Are you having trouble with "math"? It may not be 2+2, but its not far from it. If you can't figure it out from the thread, may be the info in square brackets will sink in.

On Feb.9, you pulled my "WARNING" [from "ear candling"] cause it wasn't "neutral" enough. Yet you allow statements from the medical profession; which we know is COMPLETLY UNBIASED AND "NEUTRAL" in a topic like this, and would have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO GAIN by declaring ear candling "dangerous" {>,.<} Why is there NO contributions from alternative therapy practioners? #Hmmmm? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.88.106.215 (talk) 10:12, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

TPS note The IP is referring to this revert. L293D ( • ) 13:57, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
Your "warning" here seemed to be a non-neutral method of adding your opinion and stating that you disagree with the content. You put the word expert and dangerous in quotations which both imply a point of view, as well as added this: "And if its true that Canada has considered the procedure so "dangerous" that they've gone to the overkill extent of outlawing it, that would indicate that there's some validity in ear candling". This is why I reverted your edit and warned you about Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. If you wish to fix what you believe is wrong with the article and the content, feel free to add neutral content and cite reliable sources in-line with your changes. This is what will help improve the article. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to help you further. Thanks for the message, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:29, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Gobucks821, and welcome to Wikipedia! I assume we're talking about the edits made to Epileptic seizure here, correct? None of the content added was referenced by any reliable sources, which is why the content was removed. It looks like the changes made to the article have since provided some - this is what I was looking for. On a side note, I also highly recommend that you review this section of Wikipedia's policy regarding what Wikipedia is not designed to be. This includes being a guide or a place for instructions or advice - especially when it comes to medical advice. Wikipedia is not the place to go to for this information and you may find yourself running into push-back from other editors over this fact and with that content, so just keep this in mind ;-). If you have any more questions or concerns, please let me know and I'll be happy to help you further. Thanks again for the message, I welcome you to Wikipedia, and I wish you happy editing here :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:48, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah. My addition to Racism in Europe did not make the information more biased, but in fact made it less biased. I'll add the information back in to provide the reader with a full picture. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.104.142.198 (talk) 17:38, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for letting us know you wanted to be reverted. I have reverted you and placed some helpful information on your user talk page. You should read that stuff. Chris Troutman (talk) 17:56, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
It seems that many other editors disagree with the content you're adding to this article (the diff I reverted is here), and it seems like you're edit warring with others in order to keep the content added to the article - please don't do this. Instead, you need to resolve the dispute properly and create a discussion on the article's talk page and participate with the others involved so that a consensus can be reached. Resorting to edit warring is not allowed and can result in being blocked from editing temporarily. If you have any questions about resolving this issue properly, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message, and I wish you good luck with getting the issue resolved peacefully :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:53, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Cross-XfD page moves?

Hi,

I just saw Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nick Joong, and was wondering if cross-XfD page moves are permitted? It seems pointless to have to archive the erroneous one and start an entirely new nomination. Adam9007 (talk) 20:13, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

Adam9007 - Good question. I'm not sure, to be honest. I would imagine that each XfD probably has their own template variations and all, and this would cause confusion with statistics and report pages if we began cross-moving them between others and without updating the templates used (assuming that they are different). It would probably be easier on everyone to have you just close the discussion that's currently open and that needs to move, and then create a new XfD in the correct place and using their creation process. However, I could be completely wrong and you may be able to do it just fine. However, it's a better idea to close and re-create the XfD (since it's the safest option that we know won't cause any template mishaps or other issues) until you figure this out for sure. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:19, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
Well, the page would need to be tagged with mfd and the AfD log moved there, but I think it could theoretically be done. This is under the assumption that it is the redirect's target that was meant to be nominated and not the redirect itself, which I think is obviously the case here (not to mention that redirects go to RfD rather than AfD anyway). Adam9007 (talk) 21:19, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
Adam9007 - Let me know how this goes and if you find out the best way to handle this :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:47, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! The revision that I actually reverted was this one, as it adds opinionated commentary and content that clearly represents a non-neutral point of view. This is why I reverted the content here. You also added this content beforehand, as well as this content after my reversion was made - both which were reverted by other editors for neutrality issues and the lack of reliable sources provided. I urge you to review these policies and guidelines so that you understand the issues with your edits completely, and do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions about them. Palestine

Dear oshwah

For the following reasons below, I am requesting that the number of sovereign states in all wikipedia related articles be 195- the 193 members of the UN, observer Vatican City, and observer state of Palestine (note; this was written in a fully objective and fact based basis and holds no prejudice or double standards in any of the sovereignty disputes regarding the partially recognized states);

- unlike the other states with limited recognition (abkhazia, Taiwan, North Cyprus, Kosovo, etc), all have 113 (~57%) or less recognitions by the UN, while Palestine has 136 recognitions, which amount to ~70.5% of the UN, which gives it limited recognition, but far beyond the partially recognised level. Additionally, states like China, Cyprus, Armenia, and Israel are also disputed by one or more UN members and still have sufficient enough recognition

- None of the states with partial or no recognition (including Kosovo) have neither member or observer status in the UN and do not participate in anyway while palestine is an observer (alongside Vatican City, another non member sovereign state)

- Contrary to popular belief, despite its limited recognition, no country (not even the ones that do not recognize Palestine) except Israel disputes palestinian sovereignty over the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem and actually support the creation of a Palestinian state in these territories, a goal also recognized and supported by the UN while the rest of the partially recognized states all are either (partly or fully) recognized as part of other countries and neither is their right to statehood.

- The UN did not fully reject Palestine, as it has granted it non member observer STATE status (along with some rights such as a permanent mission, it’s flag in its HQ, the right to join international conventions, etc), it is designated as ‘the state of palestine’ in official UN documents, and its observer status vote in 2012 ( among most votes on the issue ) witness an automatic majority. In addition, the security council did not reject the application for statehood in 2011, it just that UNSC members grew divided on the issue and was unable to muster a consensus. It is the palestinians that decided to put it on hold due to US pressure among other threats

I sincerely hope that the editing community will change Palestine’s categorization in all related Wikipedia articles, and this was all written in a neutral, objective, and fact based manner.

Hi Talatastan and thank you for leaving me a message here. It appears that you have personal points of view with this topic, and that NeilN has already talked to you about this topic sufficiently on your user talk page. Because of the heated and contentious nature of this topic, discretionary sanctions have been authorized for all articles and content that is in relation to the Arab–Israeli conflict (broadly construed). Furthermore, as explained by NeilN, editors who are not extended confirmed (have an account that's at least 30 days old, and have made at least 500 edits) are not allowed to modify content in this topic area. I highly recommend that you participate and focus your efforts toward other articles where this topic isn't present so that you can gain experience and become proficient with Wikipedia's various policies and guidelines, and I'm sure by then that you'll understand why we saw issues with you editing content in this topic area. If you have any more questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:06, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi LSmith2018, and thanks for leaving me a message here and for letting me know about this. I apologize for the confusion that my revert and warning may have caused, and I appreciate the message and for letting me know what was going on. It looks like some unreferenced BLP violations have since been removed and rev del'd so it looks like this issue has been resolved. On a side note, the fact that you're editing this article under this subject's direction is problematic, as it introduces a conflict of interest concern and jeopardizes the neutrality of the article content. The censorship question

Hello Oshwah, when I had suggested your talk page I had thought of a more private environment in which I wanted to reply to the nice statement you made at Talk:Main Page#Has censorship has become de rigueur at Wikipedia?. But since then several things happened: More and more people involved themselves, including someone who reverted a message on my own talk page, and finally User:Isanae (BOLDly, as it seems to me), declared your page a better location for the whole discussion, redirecting everyone here. Is that OK with you? Already when I first posted the message I acknowledged that in general the Village Pump would be a better location for such a general topic. That has only become more so now that the problem has widened to more and more people. ◄ Sebastian 08:10, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

Sebastian - Sure, I don't mind. My talk page is completely open and everyone is welcome here. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:18, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
Thank you; it is pretty clear now that this isn't just about you. Cutting off others seems to really have become de rigueur here; I was cut off yet again from getting replies from at least one person I directly addressed at Talk:Main_Page. But we'll see, maybe they'll follow the redirection to reply here. Or maybe I'll decide to post something on VP, after all. ◄ Sebastian 08:45, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
@SebastianHelm: The main page's talk page is for discussing the content of the main page, it's not a general forum for discussing policies and behaviour. Since you had agreed to move the discussion over here, I closed it as being resolved. I may have misunderstood. Feel free to reopen it. Isa (talk) 08:20, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
User:Isanae, if I may give you some advice: If one wants to avoid misunderstandings it generally helps to ① not be rash and ② take the time to read what another person wrote. Your action on Talk:Main_Page took place less than seven minutes after the last post, which looks a bit rash to me. Your post here, in which you talk down to me as if I still needed to be explained why Talk:Main_Page isn't the best page for this discussion seems to indicate that you didn't read my statement above in which I said just that. ◄ Sebastian 08:45, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
I received your email, SebastianHelm. I have some real life things to take care of, but I'll get back to you as soon as I can. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:21, 10 May 2018 (UTC)

Here's another new hoax - Draft:Thylacoline by User talk:50.32.152.230, who has previous form for doing this sort of thing - see the earlier example on his talkpage. Hi Oshwah, Anthony Bradbury deleted the draft as a (G3: Blatant hoax) just a few hours after I posted my message on your talk page, and the IP hasn't made any edits since 6 May, so there's no need for you to take any action at this time. Given his past history I expect that he will reappear, but it may not be for several months - his editing habits are rather erratic and unpredictable. Please lock my alt accounts

Hello Oshwah, because I have a crappy password on my alternate accounts please lock them across all Wikimedia projects. Thanks! you can find it here. Thegooduser Let's Chat 14:15, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Just for information, Oshwah can't block accounts on projects they're not admins on; that kind of thing is more in the scope of stewards, though I don't know whether they honor requests like this. Writ Keeper  14:18, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
It's only because they have a crappy password. Thegooduser Let's Chat 14:19, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
You could...change the password? (And I didn't mean "can't" as in "doesn't want to" or "would but it's against the rules", I meant "is physically unable to"; admins only have tools for the projects on which they've explicitly given them; if we haven't been made admins on other projects, we don't have any of the admin tools on those other projects.) Writ Keeper  14:20, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
It would get my IP blocked because those accounts are blocked.Thegooduser Let's Chat 03:39, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - Attempting to log into an account while it's locked will simply prevent you from doing so. That's all that a lock does in a technical aspect - it simply does not let anyone log into the account from any WMF project website... so if these accounts are already locked, you're good and there's nothing more you need to worry about ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:43, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Blanket temporary semi-protection for RuPaul's Drag Race season articles?

Hi Oshwah, I notice that you're active with requests for page protection, so I'd like to ask you a question. I'm not sure whether it would be appropriate to make a blanket request for brief, temporary semi-protection for all RuPaul's Drag Race season articles. There has been a high volume of IP vandalism, mostly to the infoboxes, of virtually all of these articles, and I notice that this behavior may be perpetuated as an in-joke circulating on Twitter [1] [2] [3]. Some of the show's former contestants/winners have retweeted screenshots of the joke edits [4] [5], and at least one vandal happily took credit for their work [6].

Certain seasons have experienced more vandalism than others, especially season 2 (which you already semi-protected) and season 6. I've also reverted multiple acts of vandalism on seasons 3, 4 and 5 in the past 24 hours, so do you think the kind of blanket protection I've suggested is reasonable? Armadillopteryxtalk 15:18, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

This seems to be calming down on its own already, so never mind :-) Armadillopteryxtalk 23:26, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
Armadillopteryx - Okay, let me know if things pick back up again and I'll be happy to take another look. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:48, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks :-) In the past couple of days there have been about 2 or 3 incidents of such vandalism per day, which is still more than usual but is not unmanageable. Armadillopteryxtalk 08:11, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
No problem, and got'cha. Well, if it gets unmanageable, let me know ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:12, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Scott Wilson (bodybuilder) updates

Hi,

Saw your note about my changes on 'Scott Wilson (bodybuilder)' page. I'm not well versed in the process here. He was my father, and I was just trying to update his Wikipedia page to note that he passed away on Sunday night. As for sources, I'm not sure what I could use on that front at the moment, other than maybe an online article from Generation Iron who wrote about his passing (surely after seeing the mention of it on the popular "This is bodybuilding" Instagram page) who sourced me reporting it since I'm friends with the owner of that page and let him know my father had passed. So its likely a rather circular source.

Scott — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.204.229.97 (talk) 15:46, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

Would this work as a source? (the previous referenced article) https://generationiron.com/veteran-old-school-bodybuilder-and-powerlifter-scott-wilson-passes-away-at-age-67/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.204.229.97 (talk) 15:51, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hi Scott, my condolences for your loss. The source you have linked in your comment above would be okay to cite the information you want to add to the article. Please note that Wikipedia has a conflict of interest policy that discourages editing articles whose subjects you are close to. However, I think that in this case, when you just want to add a small piece of factual information to the article, it's okay as long as you include the source between tags. Armadillopteryxtalk 15:58, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
Armadillopteryx - Even if we could verify the IP user's claim to be true or not, this is definitely a conflict of interest issue and we shouldn't be encouraging editors who have such a conflict of interest to edit the articles themselves and put content neutrality at risk. Remember that it's much better for content within an article to be completely well-referenced and neutral throughout but be somewhat behind with the latest information, than to be (what is believed to be) "up-to-date" but without reliable references and with neutrality compromised due to COI edits - especially when it comes to making claims that a BLP is now dead. Wikipedia has gotten into hot water in the past over allowing these claims to be published only to find out that they were in fact hoaxes and due to a large effort to troll the internet. We should instead encourage them to create an edit request so that their desired changes can be reviewed and added by someone else. This will both allow the editor to file a request, as well as keep neutrality in check by having the request evaluated and scrutinized first before such changes are added to the article ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:00, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Okay, that makes sense, and is noted for the future! The IP added that statement to the page (with the source) and has not since edited the article. After going over to check on the situation, I ended up rewriting and adding inline citations to much of the article anyway. Armadillopteryxtalk 08:00, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Nice - even better! Thanks for doing that, Armadillopteryx! Keep up the excellent work! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:03, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Vishnu2602 - I owe you my sincere and humble apologies for the removal of your edit and the warning I left you - it looks like this was done accidentally to your edit instead of someone else's. I've stricken out the warning I left you, and I encourage you to add the content back that you originally intended to. A copy of what you added can be found here. TheSandDoctor Yes. It has a bad password.Thegooduser Let's Chat 01:31, 10 May 2018 (UTC)
The accounts are indefinitely blocked as is though and could not edit even if they were compromised. If you use the bad password in other places, I would definitely consider changing it elsewhere though. I don't think there is must of a concern when it comes to the passwords on the indef blocked accounts. With that said, that is just my opinion though (but I don't have a strong one either way). What do you think Dlohcierekim? --TheSandDoctor Talk 02:17, 10 May 2018 (UTC)
The account is not blocked across all projects only the EN Wikipedia. Thegooduser Let's Chat 02:21, 10 May 2018 (UTC)
I blocked my dead accounts. Not worried about them. I would change any off-wiki passwords. I did change my off-wiki passwords. I changed the password on this account. A 30 byte password would take more than a decillion years to crack. But I generally honor a request if I cannot see the harm. I'm easy.-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 03:18, 10 May 2018 (UTC)
Just login on another project and change the password from there. — JJMC89(T·C) 04:11, 10 May 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - You can log into these accounts on this project, too. It won't make any difference; they're just blocked from editing pages on this project. Being blocked doesn't stop you from being able to change the password on your account, or other things such as your user preferences or options. Just change them to be strong passwords and you'll have nothing to worry about :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:12, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Arab israeli article dispute

Dear Oshwah,

I have received your warning regarding the arbitration of Arab israeli related articles. However, I have complied with recent warnings not to break with Wikipedia consensus, as I have appealed to the editing community BEFORE making further edits, and I only listed Palestine as a UN OBSERVER, and I did not add it to the rest of the UN members. I regret and reprehend the irresponsible arbitration by some editors regarding this dispute and I am in no way tied with their actions. I vow to continue to fully comply with all community guidelines and request consent BEFORE making any edits, and I wholeheartedly apologize for any inconveniences I have initially caused myself. In respect to community guidelines, I will not, from this point on, edit any related Arab israeli conflict articles and I am now disassociating myself with this dispute or any unilateral actions taken by vigilante editors. However, I wish that any recent edits I have made will be kept.

I have been trying to get my talk page to automatically archive. But I don't think I got it right. It seems that every time the bot runs, It archives it to Here. How do I get it to work like yours dose? I can't seem to find the archive script on your Talk Page Source. Thanks! Also Sorry en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Oshwah&direction=prev&oldid=840539947 . I undid it as soon as I released it. I was trying to add this. I woke up early today. Lakeside Out!-LakesideMinersClick Here To Talk To Me! 15:29, 10 May 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) As far as I know, Oshwah archives his talk page manually (like [8] and [9]). You can automate the process if you like. Take a look at the code in the box that says "Archives by year/month" at this page. Currently, the code on your talk page is running "Sequentially numbered archives" so it'll switch to a new archive only when the previous one is filled to 150k bytes. Jiten talk contribs 16:53, 10 May 2018 (UTC)
LakesideMiners - Jiten D is correct; I perform the archiving on my user talk page here completely manually and I don't use any bots to help me do so. It should be as simple as adding yourself to a list so that an archive bot will do it for you automatically, but again - I've always just done it myself ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:16, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Santa Fe, New Mexico

You have Santa Fe, New Mexico as part of a category of "Populated Places Established in 1610." According to THE ARTICLE ITSELF, and all pertinent sources associated with it, Santa Fe was founded in 1607. As you can clearly see from the excerpt below, and as I clearly explained when the CORRECTION was made, the year 1610 was NOT the year the town was founded -- it was the year the town founded three years earlier was named the capital of the Nuevo Mexico province. OBVIOUSLY, whoever put 1610 in the infobox MADE A MISTAKE and should have put 1607 instead -- since 1607 is the year the town was founded, not 1610!

I did not cite a source when I made that CORRECTION because the sources were already cited in the article -- somebody simply made a keyboarding error and entered the wrong date in the infobox!

"New Mexico's second Spanish governor, Don Pedro de Peralta, however, founded a new city at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in 1607, which he called La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asís, the Royal Town of the Holy Faith of Saint Francis of Assisi. In 1610, he designated it as the capital of the province, which it has almost constantly remained,[10] making it the oldest state capital in the United States."

Re

This IP is often involved in editing war. I think that I would warn him when his edits are in dispute. In fact, there are multiple users who warned him, but he did not improve, so if he is warned again, hoping to pay attention to his edits.:In addition to other questions, he edited the same project on the English Wikipedia and Chinese Wikipedia. However, the content written is exactly the opposite. So I don’t trust his editor.I once asked him why he did not respond..--O1lI0 (talk) 02:39, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

O1lI0 - The "edit war" that you speak of involves the IP users' own user talk page, which the user by policy is allowed to remove comments, messages, warnings, etc from their own talk page like this (with a few exceptions - they are listed in that policy I linked you to). This is also listed as an exemption to the three-revert rule. I closed the AN3 report you filed as "no violation" because I wasn't sure if you know about this or not, and I didn't want to see your account blocked over this if you didn't. Please take this as nothing more than a friendly note and remember this going forward; no big deal :-). Thanks for the message and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:26, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Response to your earlier message

Hi oshwah,

I have been made aware of the editorial sanctions placed on articles related to controversial and contentious issues like the Arab-israeli conflict, and I intend to fully comply and respect them as a responsible user of your platform. However, it is not that I am going about these modifications based on my personal feelings towards this issue ( although I am part Palestinian ), I am just solely trying to make a more accurate representation of sovereign states as defined by Wikipedia regardless, and I would have done the same thing even with states like abkhazia and north Cyprus, given that they had wider state recognition and were members or observers of the UN. In short, I vow to distance myself from editing already established articles on the Arab israeli conflict, but all that I propose and that I wish would be implemented by the editing community is that the number of sovereign states, as defined by Wikipedia, only include UN members (193 nations) and the two observers, regardless of whom. Please do not interpret this as some absolutist and nationalistic incentive on my part, im solely just going by the UN definition

Talatastan (talk) 02:46, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Talatastan, and thank you for responding and for following-up with the conversation above. Since your account doesn't meet the tenure and edit count requirements, you won't be able to directly edit content in this topic area (even if such an article isn't protected). Instead, you're welcome to create an edit request with the changes that you feel should be made to the article's content. After you publish the request, another editor will review and evaluate your request and update the article for you (assuming no issues, problems, or other concerns were found). Make sure to include the exact content that should be changed, along with the references and sources that are needed in order to verify the accuracy and legitimacy of what needs to be modified. Making an edit request will help accomplish what you're trying to do (which is to fix what is believed to be inaccurate content) while respecting the policies that are in-place over this particular topic, and it will keep you out of trouble since you're not attempting to update the content directly yourself (even though the particular article is protected). Please read and follow the instructions I provided in the link above and let me know if you have any questions regarding the edit request process. I'll be happy to answer them and help you if you get stuck anywhere. Thanks again for the response, and I wish you the best of luck with your request :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:34, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! Thanks for leaving me a message here with this information. Sorry, but assuming that your statement is true and that you're editing this article under the direction of this person - this represents a conflict of interest with the article subject and is editing behavior that's very highly discouraged by the community. You're free to make an edit request instead, as it will allow others to review and apply the edit to the article for you (assuming no problems are found). You also need to locate and reference reliable sources to verify the accuracy and legitimacy of what you believe to be the person's correct birthdate - citing yourself as "knowing the person" and "editing under her direction" isn't sufficient. If you have any questions regarding how to properly proceed and how to create an edit request, let me know and I'll be happy to help you. Thanks for the message and I wish you good luck with your edit request :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:31, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

EDITOR685422- The reference you listed has me concerned, as it only uses someone's Twitter account to verify the information. Twitter accounts can be easily hoaxed, hacked, many things - to appear legitimate and state false or inaccurate information. Nonetheless, go ahead and add a new talk page discussion and list the source you added here, but it will take the verification of more than one reliable source before I would consider updating the article - especially given that it's a biography of a living person and subject to much more strict scrutiny than most other articles. Can I ask you a question? Why am I still blocked from editing the article? EDITOR685422 (talk) 06:18, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

EDITOR685422 - The article has been protected so that only accounts with at least 30 days' tenure and at least 500 edits can modify it - see this page for more information. This protection was applied after a confirmed account modified the article and added a death date and information without any references at all to support it, which is highly against Wikipedia's policy regarding biographies of living people. I now understand. Thank you very much. I'm a relatively new editor but I have been using Wikipedia for a very long time. I do have one question... I try to upload images to Commons but I can't seem to comprehend the provided instructions... Can you help me? Thanks! EDITOR685422 (talk) 06:29, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

EDITOR685422 - Sure, I can help. What page are you using to try and upload this image? Did you try using the upload wizard to help guide you through the process? If not, give the wizard a go - it'll help answer what questions you may have. Let me know if you still have questions or need assistance and I'll be happy to do so. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:31, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

I tried to use the upload wizard, but once I click it it doesn't show anything (it just refreshes the page). See, I wasn't using it on a computer or laptop, because I use my phone (IKR) to edit articles. I know it's a stupid platform to upload images in. Nevertheless, thanks for the help. I really really appreciate it. EDITOR685422 (talk) 06:34, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

EDITOR685422 - You're saying that when you click on the link, "Click here to start the upload wizard" - that nothing happens and you don't see any forms or anything following that? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:40, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Yup. Nothing. The page just refreshes and I see "Click here to start the Upload Wizard" again. That's pretty weird if you ask me. EDITOR685422 (talk) 06:42, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

EDITOR685422 - You probably have Javascript disabled in your browser (either for this website or for all websites), which would cause this to happen. This is due to the fact that the Upload Wizard uses javascript in order for it to function. I would verify that Javascript is enabled and allowed to execute on Wikipedia, or simply try using a different browser to perform the upload. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:44, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Now I know. I'll see what I can do. Thank you very much, my friend! EDITOR685422 (talk) 07:15, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Quim Torra

Hi, I requested protection for Quim Torra, because of disruptive editing. You fully-protected the page, I think semi-protection would be sufficient, because there hasn't really been much disruptive editing from autoconfirmed users and the page is still very young and requires more information. Also, it would be good to extend the period a little bit, because the subject is very likely to be elected president of Catalonia tomorrow, which is not going to help this cool down. wikitigresito (talk) 19:54, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Wikitigresito, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns regarding the protection I applied to Quim Torra. After taking another look at the article and the content and editors involved, I've lowered the protection level to extended confirmed protection instead. It will accomplish the same result (being fair to all users involved) but without restricting extended confirmed editors from being able to modify the article (no editors involved in the dispute have this flag). Aside from this, the dispute is content-related and the fair thing to do without giving any editors an advantage over another is to protect the article so that all users involved are required to discuss the dispute on the article's talk page and cannot modify the article during the time the protection is active. The protection will expire in two days. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to help you further. Thanks again for the message, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:14, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for the reply. Now I understand the logic behind full-protection. I was considering this acts of disruptive editing, but taking a step back, I agree with you that it falls under content dispute. wikitigresito (talk) 20:29, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Wikitigresito - Sure, you bet. Please don't hesitate to let me know if I can do anything else for you. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:31, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Advice on how to respond to a user who will not engage

Hey, so I'm dealing with an IP user on the PLA Marine Corps and PLAAF Airborne Corps page, and were in a disagreement over the name of the organization. I started talk page sections on both pages and on their user pages, but they won't engage with me outside of edit summary. I'm limiting my reverts since I do not want to engage in an edit war, but I'm at a loss at how to deal with the situation. How would you recommend I proceed, and if I did something wrong or incorrect, can you please point that out as well? Thanks. Garuda28 (talk) 20:10, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Garuda28! Sure, I'll be happy to offer some advice here. Looking at People's Liberation Army Marine Corps, I definitely see where the IP is reverting your edits and continuing to modify the article while ignoring your request to discuss the matter on the article's talk page. I checked through this IP range's contributions, and they've made zero edits to the talk or the user talk namespaces. I've left an edit warring notice on the last IP address that was used to edit the article. I'd say that continuing to edit the article is fine (just don't revert or change the user's edits repeatedly). If the IP user reverts your edit again, file a report at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring and make sure to note that you tried creating a talk page discussion to no avail, and that the user continues to revert your changes without any attempt to communicate and despite the warning that was left on their user talk page. This will easily show that you're doing the right things and the IP is not, and an administrator can take action from there. Sometimes, when dealing with a user who refuses to communicate or attempt to resolve the dispute properly, you just have to hold their edits and reverts to policy and report the user to the proper noticeboard if they repeatedly violate policy. These particular situations with users who refuse to communicate are rarely easy to deal with or have a solution that's "black and white", but I find that this is the best method to resort to when you've tried your best to communicate and do the right things and to absolutely no avail. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else and I'll be happy to do so. I wish you good luck with this situation and I hope it comes to a peaceful and positive resolution. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:31, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Thank you! This is the first time I’ve dealt with this, so it was a little confusing. I think my plan will be to wait a day (so the IP has an opertunity to respond), then go through the article and restore the name. If it is reverted then go to the notice board. Does that sound like a good plan of action?Garuda28 (talk) 20:34, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
UPDATE: IP is talking. Thanks!Garuda28 (talk) 20:39, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi DCEU! I appreciate your message and the kind words :-). Nope, I'm a human (even though many editors have questioned this... haha). I use various programs and tools provided as well as scripts I've written to make the majority of the edits that I perform - they only require a few clicks or the push of a key to use, so don't be too impressed with the number of edits I make ;-). I participate in recent changes patrolling and revert vandalism and other disruptive edits - it's a project area that typically results in participants having a higher-than-average amount of edits. The important thing to remember is that we favor quality over quantity and that edit counts are really just a number... it doesn't asses whether or not I'm a proficient user, and it shouldn't be used to judge whether or not an editor is experienced enough for a certain role or user permission (see the "Quality, not quantity" section on this page for more input). Again, I appreciate your message very much, but I also want to make sure that I respond with the right reply and that I tell you (as well as everyone else out there) good information and ultimately what's important here (and what else really... not so much). I hope you have a great rest of your weekend and I wish you happy editing. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:27, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Raymond Ackerman Wikipedia page

Dear Oshwah I added the URL https://mc1a.wordpress.com for Mr Jack Goldin as he was the founder of Pick n Pay from whom Mr Ackerman purchased the 4 Pick n Pay stores. On the URL https://mc1a.wordpress.com/2013/12/01/king-of-the-clicks-empire/ Mr Ackerman tells in more details of his acquisition of the 4 Pick n Pay stores. I would you to please reconsider my request and allow the small change to go through as it was Mr Ackerman himself who wrote about Jack Goldin in his book entitled "Hearing Grasshoppers Jump" Published 2001. Mr Ackerman gave me permission and allowed to add the excerpt on the Jack Goldin website. In view of the above may I ask you to allow me to add the link to Mr Jack Goldin's name. I thank you in anticipation. Best regards, Matteo PS May I please ask you to take a few minutes to read the following paragraphs as they are related to how Raymond Ackerman negotiated with Jack Goldin. https://www.google.co.za/search?q=tribute+to+jack+goldin&rlz=1C1CHZL_enZA796ZA796&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=6IpAj9iQI59SCM%253A%252CSxhgyLPLgt8bxM%252C_&usg=__3el6tZwJUOIItGC152td67G8E20%3D&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjElZTl1oPbAhXLCsAKHRAiB-4Q9QEwB3oECAAQRA#imgrc=6IpAj9iQI59SCM: — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matteocone (talkcontribs) 22:07, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

I made some edits to the page. Can you tell me what was wrong with them? I've made a new account.

Thanks

Personal Brander (talk) 23:50, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Personal Brander - The reason I applied protection to Résumé was to stop the back-and-fourth edit warring that was going on. It was not meant to imply that there were issues with the changes you were trying to make, nor does it imply that there were issues with the editor who was reverting your changes. Just take the dispute to the article's talk page and start a discussion there so that the dispute can be resolved. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Börje Salming edit, yes I think you were hasty in reversing it

Hello

I was in Oshawa (Ont.) last night, May 12. I’m a huge fan of Poe, Dali, James and Twain. So we have no reason to feud.

You are a guardian of the Börje Salming entry, so I assume you must have seen him play. It therefore surprises me that you reject my simple addition that he was “an outstanding skater and passer of the puck.” Everybody who played in or followed the NHL in the 1970s said the same thing. I do not think what I added can be said to be non-neutral (or incorrect or disputable).

I also added a few lines under the heading “International Play”, a paragraph that was otherwise very threadbare. I added objective facts that can be confirmed by clicking the Wiki link (that was already there) to “1976 Canada Cup.” Surely you see how improved the passage became. It is true that I added an unsourced line (the one about Dennis Potvin); however what I said is widely known, and given that everything else I added was verifiably correct, you may have given it the benefit of the doubt.

best wishes Alistair W — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.254.81.193 (talk) 02:33, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Your edits to Börje Salming were reverted due to adding opinionated content and commentary to the article content - just read through what you added and it's quite obvious. You need to review and understand Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy before you make additional edits to articles. If you have any questions about this policy, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks for the message, and I hope that you follow my advice :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:48, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Edits to Emmanuel school page

Hi Oshwah,

Firstly I appreciate you pointing out my citation errors, I am looking to learn from my mistakes and improve as a wiki editor.

Secondly I am a student at the college and know the new motto, as it was announced 3 days ago, it has not yet been updated on the school website but they will probably update it as the week goes on. So how do I cite it.

Finally, I included reference to a former student who has done our school very proud and I think he should be on our list of notable students, their is nothing online about his recent academic aclades so I don’t know who to cite.

Thanks, Emmanuel community contributions captain 2017/ 2018 Peter — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cc. Emanuel (talkcontribs) 08:24, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Cc. Emanuel, and thanks for leaving me a message here regarding your edits made here to Emanuel School, Australia. The content you added was not referenced by any reliable sources - please take time to review this guideline for identifying reliable sources (see the link), as it will help answer your questions and address your concerns. You also need to understand Wikipedia's guidelines on the nobility of people before you add people to lists like this, as only notable people should be added to them. If you have any questions about Wikipedia's guidelines on identifying reliable sources or the notability of people, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Chelsea2200 - You're referring to yourself in the plural first-person... are you sharing this account with other users in your group, or is this account representing the edits by more than one person? Are you being paid or compensated for your edits to Wikipedia? See this page regarding what you're required to disclose if this is the case. Also, you state that you (or "we") are the "chemicalbook editing team"... this makes your addition of the chemicalbook.com reference here original research as well as conflicts of interest and is not allowed. I think you need to evaluate your intentions and what you're trying to accomplish here, as well as review Wikipedia's policies and guidelines - you appear to be in violation of numerous policies in many aspects, and we need to work to get this resolved... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:09, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Persistent sock

Hey there – thanks for blocking the latest sock. As this person is being rather persistent with their creation of these accounts, feel free to add Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/LukaRuckels to your watchlist. I'll keep reporting any suspicious activity – thanks. 4TheWynne(talk)(contribs) 12:03, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi 4TheWynne! It's good to talk to you again! I hope things are going well for you. Sure, no problem - always happy to help. I'll try and keep eyes on the SPI, but you might have to ping me and let me know if a new user appears and I don't see it - as you can imagine, I have a lot of pages on my watchlist, etc ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:06, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

@Sjd american author: Both were reverted by Oshwah. The Taco Bell one was reverted within the same minute that this was posted. With that said, I would strongly advise that you cease editing disruptively or you will eventually be blocked. Rather than being (eventually) blocked, why not help us build an encyclopedia and edit constructively (fix typos, add sources, etc) instead? More vandalism at Nero Claudius Drusus

The week-long ban is over, so we have the IP from Sioux Falls once again vandalizing the article. YoPienso (talk) 13:38, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks. Wouldn't just locking the article be the best fix? YoPienso (talk) 13:44, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
The user appears to be trying to explain their edits in the edit summary, and the edits by the IP have stopped (at the time of this writing, at least). I'm going to hold off on doing anything until I get a better sense of what's going to happen. If the disruption picks up, then yes protecting the article is an option ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:46, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
YoPienso - Looks like this article has remained silent outside those edits by that IP user. I'm going to leave the article as-is, but definitely keep eyes on it and let me know if I need to take another look at it. I'll be happy to do so. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:10, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Help avoiding an edit war

Oshwah, as the closing editor of this discussion 10, I was hoping you might offer some suggestions/recommendations for dealing with the same subject editor's proposed edits to the Colt AR-15 and AR-15 style rifle pages. We currently have an active discussion related to the material that caused the ANI you closed 11. At the end of that section Waleswatcher has proposed making article changes despite the contentious talk page discussion of the material. The same editor is proposing nearly the same behavior here (12, again see end of the discussion). In the second case we just had an informal RfC with 21 responses that resulted in no consensus for similar changes. It seems like making such changes would be reckless rather than bold. I also feel, based on some of the editor interactions, their may be an intent to antagonize (refusing to allow the minor correction of a swype error and posting a pedantic warning to my talk page after being told they were forbiden from making such edits to my talk page 13). I'm not going to get dragged into another edit war but I don't think this editor understands that such reckless editing isn't cool. Do you have any suggestions for how do best deal with something like this. I don't think we are at ANI levels but this is the sort of behavior that often eventually leads there. Thanks for any suggestions. Springee (talk) 17:43, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Springee - When it comes down to the "bread and butter" of it all - it sounds like the user is intent on continuing with making their edits and while the discussion on the article's talk page is ongoing and without waiting for a consensus first. If this is the case, then their edits will be disruptive; simply revert them and notify the user that this is not okay while a discussion is ongoing (just don't edit war... haha). If they repeatedly do it, file a report at AN3. When it comes to these kinds of situations, you sometimes just have to hold their edits to policy and take action if they keep going. Given all of the discussions and warnings given to this user - they clearly know that what they're doing is going to be seen as disruptive. If they choose to proceed, then they just need to be held accountable for the disruption ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:00, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Would this be forum shopping? ["AR-15_style_rifle"_of_the_article_"Colt_AR-15"_to_the_lead_of_its_parent_article] Springee (talk) 21:51, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
Oshwah, I pinged you with respect to the same editor and the AR-15 style rifle talk page and edits. Do you have any moving forward suggestions here? The editor has been informed of how WP:CONSENSUS suggests handling a lack of consensus for a change 14 and seems to insistent on continuing this battle. I think a ANI is next based on the examples above, the forum shopping RfC that was closed (my last post) and this morning's edits. Anyway, I'm not going to take any more actions until I have some guidance. Thanks! Springee (talk) 14:57, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

FYI, based on a slow continuation of the previous edit war and your suggestions here, I've filed an ANI related to the above. Thanks for the input. Springee (talk) 04:33, 21 May 2018 (UTC)

Recent unblocking of AdMinor

This is at AIV again. I don't want to over-ride your unblocking here. But Adminor is still editing. And quite frankly, I think this is a sock. Just a random selection of the user pages they're adding welcome to, seems to be creating the user (no user edits, no deleted edits, no filter log): Potent Ant, Govindarajsgr2212, Sheikh arbaj, Christhuphus - there's a lot of them. One I did find interesting is Bayani.portier made their only edit at the EXACT MINUTE that Adminor placed a welcome on their page I don't have Check User, but someone ought to check this out. — Maile (talk) 17:49, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Maile66 and thanks for leaving me a message with your concerns. Don't worry about "over-riding" or "stepping on toes" with me - other administrators are welcome to modify, remove, or re-apply any admin actions I've performed and I won't mind at all (just let me know that you did so and why, etc). If there are suspicions of socking (which I've been watching for as well), we should file an SPI with evidence and make a decision from there about what to do. Until this happens, I'm (and you of course) are bound by policy to apply administrative actions only where a justifiable and acceptable level of evidence and confidence exists and can be explained upon being asked to do so. In this situation, the block placed on this user was only in regards to their username and it being potentially confusing by containing the string "admin" within it. The user followed the instructions given and I unblocked the account due to the fact that the original reason no longer applied. I'm not trying to be a "wikilaywer" here or come off as a "all policy, no common sense" kind of guy, but this what we're given and we need to follow policy so that whatever actions are taken are done with the confidence that we did the right thing :-). In the end, I agree - if there are suspicions or things don't appear to "smell right", it's for a reason and it's worth looking into in order to check if the suspicions find evidence or have merit ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:07, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

My User Page

Hey hey, buddy. Regarding your edit to my user page, it appears that I cannot edit it anymore. I would like for you to consider switching the level of protection down to at the very most semi-protection so I can edit it. After all, it IS my user page. I'm pretty sure confirmed and auto-confirmed users won't mess with it, so there's that. Please consider this. Thanks! DatGoodDude342 (talk) 18:11, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

DatGoodDude342 - So.... I'm an idiot. I accidentally applied template protection to your user page instead of extended confirmed protection. I apologize for this and I have fixed the protection level to be correct - you should now be able to edit your user page without any issues. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else, and I'll be happy to do so. Again, please accept my apologies for the mistake and I hope you have a great rest of your day. Need you to monitor an IP User, please

Heya. I've got this IP User who wishes to add in information regarding auditions for BGT, in particular for Britain's Got Talent (series 11), but I find it hard to understand why they haven't attempted to look at the discussion on the article's talk page, regarding such information. The problem is, they appear to have not regarded my advice about them considering the issues that such information makes to the article, and have not provided any citations to provide some proof to what they are including. Could you keep a watch on them? I'm concerned they will persist upon doing this, and could possibly get disruptive on the matter. GUtt01 (talk) 18:25, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Govvy - Nah... I'd just let the discussion run its course and treat it as if it were any other AFD - no need to add irrelevant details to it and risk the discussion getting off-track. That being said, the AFD is definitely going to be closed as keep unless someone makes a compelling argument to delete it and with strong reasoning. I'm not sure those edits are eligible for RD. I removed them because they were uncited, not uncitable... --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 21:45, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

(edit conflict) The answer was "yes"... I am an idiot. You were talking about Kelly Killoren Bensimon :-). The edits needed redaction due to being blatant and serious BLP violations and with no basis or references to support them. The edits add content that state that the article subject was involved in what is considered a crime in most countries as well as other violations. This is why I applied RD2 to those edits. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns and I'll be happy to answer them. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:12, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
SarekOfVulcan - If these edits are attributable (just not attributed) to reliable sources, then I understand your viewpoint completely. Since this is information that's readily available and with many sources that can be found, I'll go ahead and undo the rev dels that I made. I think that the content should either be restored and with reliable sources located and cited so that they are in compliance with BLP. Regardless, you are correct and RD2 doesn't apply. Thanks for the heads up; I appreciate it very much :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:27, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
This was a clear case for RD2, in my opinion. —DoRD (talk) 22:07, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
On the other hand, I now see that references are readily available via Google...so maybe not. —DoRD (talk) 22:23, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
I see this too, and I believe that the content since then has been cited, which is the best solution to this issue. However, I would understand (and perhaps consider) keeping RD2 on the uncited revision since contentious content on BLP articles must be supported and cited by a reliable source. It not only removes the violation, but it also prevents users from accidentally restoring the article to that revision in the future and walking away without realizing that contentious content has been left unsourced. But that's simply my opinion..... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:09, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

the League edit war

you just tagged me for edit warring on the page for The League (app). Please review the talk page. I've consistently posted more and more citations, and these spammers keep deleting, without response or even logic, and without discussing anything on the talk page. They're vandalizing the page to promote racism, while veiling it as fake progressivism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.143.107.97 (talkcontribs) 21:51, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi there, and thank you for leaving me a message here. I'm confused; I see your changes here (diffs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) but they add content and don't remove any kind of spam. I understand that you're participating on the article's talk page and I commend you for it greatly (seriously, there are lots of editors who choose to ignore and blow off doing this), but participation on the article's talk page or even in relevant discussions there does not grant you the ability to continue modifying the article unless a consensus or approval has been reached by the users involved in the discussion. I'm not here to judge whose revision is correct and whose are not - that's what content discussions are for... my main concern is the back-and-fourth reverting on the article, and I make sure to try and treat all users fairly and the same (when applicable) so that no editor is given favoritism or an advantage over the other. If you navigate to the involved editor's user talk page, you'll observe that I also left them an edit warring notice as well. The key here is treating both sides the same and being a completely neutral party, as well as not allowing irrelevant information to be used as a basis for judgment. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns and I'll be happy to help you further. Thanks again for the message and I wish you a great rest of your day. Adding citations to Points of Interest on Duxbury, Massachusetts page

Hello! I will definitely add some citations to the stuff that you took down because I am from Duxbury myself and those are some of the most notable points of interest.

I would like to say though, I am very new to wikipedia (just joined today) and i have no idea idea how to access the stuff that you took off (i also have no idea how to reply so sorry if this comes up as a new message). With a little help ill be on my way to getting some good citations. Thanks for understanding.

Its also late for me and I wont be able to edit until around 7 pm tomorrow because of school (around 12 hours from now)

I cited some sources and I don't know if they are reliable enough for the article. The one for the Tree of Knowledge Corner is the only article I could find describing its history.

Just wanted to point that out just in case you have to remove them again. :) RowdyRhubarb (talk) 22:21, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

I moved the last message in this section here as the user does not know how to issue a reply. To answer that though, RowdyRhubarb, do you see the "edit source" link to the right of the section header (bold text that reads "Adding citations to Points of Interest on Duxbury, Massachusetts page" on this page)? Click that and it and it should open a view where you can edit in that section. Then you would just put your response at the bottom. I hope that that helps. --TheSandDoctor Talk 06:45, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

On Gojko Mitic and the racist song about him

Hello Oshwah, I do not doubt your motives behind editing a coment in an effort to keep wikipedia neutral. The problem with the limited info about the song as it is now, is that it is promoting a racist mockery song with neo nazis in the video. The info given in the article is just misleading this way. If say an article about Rayo Vallecano includes the info that the Spanish punk ska band Ska-P has dedicated a song to the team and its supporters - that's perfectly normal. But if you say the same thing in an article about the Catholic church (and not in a paragraph dedicated to "criticism of doctrine and practices") then it will be misleading because the said Ska-P song is full of mockery, exposing the hypocrisy and utter moral corruption of the church etc. Do you see the difference? Also do you want me to translate for you the lyrics of the Hipodil song? And maybe poit out for you when exactly do the nazi skinheads appear in the video? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sando MV (talkcontribs) 07:10, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

Ok, i obviously won't get a response. Once again, by "neutrally" advertising a racist song in which the person talked about in the wiki article is mocked for his alleged ethnic origin, wikipedia is acting in way that is not nearly neutral. What i did, and my edit was deleted by you, was to point out what is the message of the song and some features of its video. I have a suggestion - you either let me put some information about the song, or delete the mention of it entirely. Mmm? What do you say? Sando MV (talk) 14:06, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hi Sando MV! One of Wikipedia's core content policies is 'no original research'. This means that any piece of information that has been concluded by oneself cannot be added. It may be obvious to you that the song in question is a mockery, but it is not an encyclopaedia's place to judge what the intention or meaning of a song is. The encyclopaedia cannot state something that has been concluded by one of its editors as fact. That is why it is important to have reliable sources to back the information. If you can find a source that specifies that the song was made with the intention to mock the subject, then your edit would be suitable. I did a quick google search but I wasn't able to find one that specifically mentioned that (I even looked through some non-English articles!). Jiten talk contribs 08:40, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi Sando MV, and thanks for leaving me a message here. I apologize for the delay getting back to you - I've been busy in real life and was inactive for a bit in order to take care of things :-). If you review Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and then re-read the edit you made to Gojko Mitic, I think that it will clearly show that the content you added didn't reflect such. By calling the song "racist" as well as referring to people as "skin heads", the statement as a whole looks to make a negative connotation about what you were adding. The information you added was also not cited with a reliable source. Please review these policies and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again for the message and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:40, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

the editing that i have done on that page are actual facts they have fought all wars before and after independence and the change that i have done regarding there gallentry award are also facts you guess havent updated there gallentry awards for years so i did it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arnav g d (talkcontribs) 14:29, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Arnav g d, and thanks for leaving me a message here. I apologize for the delay responding to you; I was busy with real life and I'm just now catching up with my Wikipedia messages and emails. Your edit here to Kumaon Regiment made modifications to data without citing a reliable source to support those changes. Furthermore, you inserted text to refer to this military group as "the best" and referring to them as "famous" - this modifies the statement to reflect positively instead of neutrally. Please remember that all article text and content needs to reflect a neutral point of view. If you have any questions about any of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, please do not hesitate to ask and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. Thanks again for the message and I hope you have a great rest of your day. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:48, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

You were engaging in edit warring on both Kurdish–Turkish conflict (1978–present) and Turkish military operation in Afrin to modify content (1, 2) without supporting either change with a reliable source, and were repeatedly reverting other users who were reverting your changes to fix them. This is why you were warned for failing to cite a source with your changes, as well as for engaging in edit warring. Please review both of these policies and guidelines and let me know if you have any questions about them. Any disputes you have between other editors over content on an article that you believe is wrong must be discussed on the talk pages of those articles, as explained on Wikipedia's dispute resolution protocol page. Thank you for the message and I appreciate your understanding :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:56, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah,

I have had a look through the contributions for the IP address and the page history and reveals the same copy and paste has occurred to the page a few times. Some may think this may be the same person doing this, e.g. this and this are somewhat identical. Iggy (Swan) 16:16, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

Iggy the Swan - That's certainly interesting information to see, and I agree that this most likely falls beyond coincidence... We'll just need to keep eyes on this article. Kelly Riddell Sadler

Hi,

I'm the person who added Kelly Riddell's married name to her Wikipedia page. Her married name is Sadler (she is married to Frank Sadler). This is the name she uses on her Twitter page: https://twitter.com/kellysadler45 I added this change to help people correctly locate Kelly Riddell on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.9.56.252 (talk) 18:56, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

List of fictional military aircraft

Hi Oshwah are you in position to terminate this "page"? All notable & sourcable content has moved to the List of fictional aircraft article as dicusssed & agreed on in the afd talk (and if not can you point me in the right direction) Cheers! - FOX 52 (talk) 21:05, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi FOX 52! This situation slightly complicates things as there's a current AFD discussion open for this article, but one that has been open since April and not added to since April either. I went ahead and changed the article to be a redirect to List of fictional aircraft and left the AFD template. I also added to the AFD discussion stating that this article should be redirected to the other. I know that it's "out of process" to add to the AFD discussion and perform the change to the article, but since this discussion is staling out I don't see much harm in this situation. If anything, it can be easily undone if one objects. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else and I'll be happy to do so. Peterson redirect

In February Dennis Brown created the redirect Scot Peterson with the editsum "BLP1E". Although the target article contains content about Peterson, it does not mention his name for privacy reasons (I can hunt down the multiple discussions forming that consensus if you like, and then there's the considerable de facto consensus as well). That is, it didn't mention the name until today, when a redirect-distinguish was added at the top of the article.[15] Is a redirect appropriate? And is it useful to readers?

This would be at User talk:Dennis Brown but for the inactivity notice there. ―Mandruss  23:35, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

Mandruss - "For privacy reasons" is something I hear a lot - why wouldn't we redirect him to an article if it has content about him? Is this an OTRS thing or something? Typically, yes that's how it works - if there's no article about the person but if they're a section in another article, the redirect would go to that other article. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:19, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
No, it isn't an OTRS thing or something. why wouldn't we redirect him to an article if it has content about him? First, because readers can't find the content about him very easily if we aren't naming him. Even when we name the target person, we feel the need to boldface the name to make it clearer why that content is the target of the redirect. Secondly, a reader can fairly easily tie the content to the name via the hatnote and/or the redirect, and that seems inconsistent with the consensus to omit the name. ―Mandruss  06:33, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
Mandruss - Interesting. It seems like a series of small things are what's holding back the creation of the redirect. If we have reliable sources to show that this was the name of the person, I don't see why we can't add that to the article. I'm not sure if we have to put his name in bold text if it's a section like that... I don't believe that I've seen that, but then again I could be mistaken and I could be wrong. I think the solution is this: if consensus in this situation says to leave the name of the person out (despite the availability of reliable sources to support the information), then we shouldn't create a redirect of his name to that article and section. That just doesn't make sense. Otherwise, if we do end up adding the person's name to the section of the article and with sources cited, then yes the redirect would be fine. For me, it would depend on if we add the name or not and the reasons behind not doing so - obviously, this is a situation that if adding the name is inappropriate for privacy reasons and consensus, then having a redirect would be inappropriate as well. I would follow consensus (of course), and depending on the result make the decision about the redirect from there. I hope my response helped you out some - let me know if you have any more questions or need more of my input, and I'll be more than happy to help :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:11, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Need help on User scripts

Hi Osh, Good day. I installed some scripts on my common.js page and bypassed the catch but seemed it is not working as I could not the following on my menu bar. Since you are a software expert :), I need your help to advise me what to do or which steps I have missed to get the scripts working.

importScript('Wikipedia:AutoEd/complete.js'); importScript( 'User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js' ); // Backlink: User:Evad37/MoveToDraft importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); // Backlink: User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js importScript('User:Czar/closexfd.js'); //Linkback: User:Czar/closexfd.js Added by Script installer importScript('User:Evad37/XFDcloser.js'); //Linkback: User:Evad37/XFDcloser.js Added by Script installer importScript('User:GregU/dashes.js'); //Linkback: User:GregU/dashes.js Added by Script installer importScript('User:V111P/js/wikiTranslTools.js'); //Linkback: User:V111P/js/wikiTranslTools.js Added by Script installer importScript('User:GregU/dashes.js'); //Linkback: User:GregU/dashes.js Added by Script installer importScript('User:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates.js'); //Linkback: dates.js Added by Script installer importScript('User:Howcheng/quickimgdelete.js'); //Linkback: User:Howcheng/quickimgdelete.js Added by Script installer importScript('User:Ale jrb/Scripts/statusCheck.js'); //Linkback: User:Ale jrb/Scripts/statusCheck.js Added by Script installer importScript('User:Bility/statusupdate.js'); //Linkback: User:Bility/statusupdate.js Added by Script installer Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 07:44, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @CASSIOPEIA: Not sure if this will fix anything, but the first line on your common.js page is missing a semi-colon. I have the MOSNUM dates script installed and it appears on the left side of my screen under 'tools' when I have the editing screen open (it doesn't appear when normally viewing a page). I don't have the MoveToDraft script installed, but according to the documentation it should appear when you hover over 'more' at top right of the page. Jiten talk contribs 12:50, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
@Jiten D: Hi Osh and Jiten. Jitten, Thank you for your input above. I have added the " ;" after the my common.js page and bypassed the catch again and the tools still not appear on my menu "Tools" section. I still have the "review (AFCH)" and "Move to Draft" but "AutoEd" is missing under "More menu" (I installed all the three scripts prior my recent (2 days ago) batch script installation). What I have done wrong or which steps I have missed? Please help and thanks in advance. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 02:38, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) You might try removing User:Czar/closexfd.js. It might be conflicting with Evad37's. (You don't really need two for the same thing.) If that doesn't work, try 1) removing them all and add one at a time until one breaks something or 2) removing one at a time until the others all work. There could be an issue with one or more of the scripts. — JJMC89(T·C) 02:55, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
CASSIOPEIA - What theme are you using on Wikipedia? Monobook? Vector? I know that you're putting these Javascript imports in your common.js, which will load them regardless of which theme you're using, but I've run into scripts that are only compatible for monobook that I've had to convert so that the new vector theme would be able to properly render them. Let me know. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:22, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
Hey, Osh, thanks for replying. My Wikipedia skin is Vector. It seems after my last scripts download, I lost many features. Please help :( and thank you Osh. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 07:43, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
CASSIOPEIA - I would start by navigating to your .js file and reverting back to a previous revision until everything that was supposed to be there and working before you made your changes is there and working (make sure to refresh and bypass your browser cache after each reversion). Then, you can compare the difference between the scripts you added and the version you had to revert to in order to restore things back to where they were previously... it'll make it easier for you to review and find any mistakes you might have made. Let me know how that goes, and send me the diff that is made as a result - I'll take a look and see if I can't catch something that's missing... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:14, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi Osh, Thanks for the message above. I have reverted each add on script and bypass the cache each time (ctr + F5), and see the diff here [16]. I am not technical, and I dont see anything wrong/mistakes in the diff. At the moment I dont have / lost (which I used to have before the revert on all the scripts above in the diff) is Teahouse talkback script but get back auto ed. Kindly help to have a look of the diff and let me know what should I do. Btw, could you able to install those scripts for me or the user has only the right to do that? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you very much. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 23:30, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
CASSIOPEIA - Yup, I have the ability to edit others' .js files for them, but I obviously only do so by request. I just checked out your .js file and saw that one of your import calls were missing a semi-colon - I went ahead and fixed that for you. What other scripts are not working that you want to have enabled? Can you point me to those .js files so I can take a look at them? I have many scripts enabled, and I find that many stop working over time due to changes in the interface, or because they clash with another script and aren't written to work beside another. Let me know when you can and I'll be happy to take a look. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:12, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
Hi Osh, Good day. Thank you for assisting and add in the missing semi colon. The below are the scripts I would like to enable. If any of the script cant be installed for whatever reasons, then just leave them out. See below. A BIG thank in advance!!! CASSIOPEIA(talk) 07:15, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

CASSIOPEIA - Holy cow... you have a lot of scripts that you want to install and enable. Yes, I have the ability to edit the .js files of other editors, and I'll be happy to take a look at your file and help you with any problems or errors after you've copied the scripts to them, but you're going to need to be the one to add these scripts. Editing one's .js file is only part of what you'll need to do (and unfortunately can be considered the easiest part)... I don't have the ability to test the changes made to your .js page and refresh your browser cache, nor will I be able to know if anything worked or not, what worked and what didn't and why. You'll need to take the time, and add each script one-by-one and make sure that it fully works and that you get help to troubleshoot things and get it working before you move on and add the next one you want. With each script you add, you're going to have to pay attention to the other scripts you added and make sure those don't break either... it's going to take you some time, but this is the best way to make sure that you get what you want enabled and with as little of hassle as possible. When you run into a script that you don't see is working after you've added it, let me know and I can help you from there and look at the code and see what the deal is... but you're going to have to add each script, verify, and test it as you go. I'm here, available, and more than happy to help you troubleshoot or look at your .js file for errors if you need me to - just reply here and I can do that. Let me know if you have any questions or need me to explain or walk you through anything, and I can do that too :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:26, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

CASSIOPEIA - You bet. Keep me posted :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:16, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
Hey Osh, By the way, any of the scripts above are clashed with each other; any of them I should not enabled? Cheers! CASSIOPEIA(talk) 01:59, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
CASSIOPEIA - You typically won't receive any warning or indication that two scripts are conflicting or clashing with one another - either one will just not load and removing the other script will result in it loading, or they'll both load and look different or messed up or disorganized as if your browser is shoving thing into make them fit. Typically, you'll notice that a tab isn't being created while another script is also supposed to create a tab, too. I've had to take the many scripts I used and have created and add the code to my own .js file and modify them so that the first script will execute and create a tab, then the next script will do so once the first one is done. When scripts are enabled, there's no particular "order" that they happen - they'll be enabled and load in the order and speed that your browser translates the javascript and applies them to the UI. If you're not a developer or if you're not familiar with F12 (the debug interface that comes with your browser), than your best bet is to enable one script at a time, make sure it works, then add the next one - make sure that it also works and that your first script does too, and so on... Hopefully my explanation makes sense... you just have to take your time and make sure that scripts work when you add them, and that you remove scripts that don't or that you no longer want anymore. It keeps your .js files clean and it lowers the chance that you'll have issues and be left frustrated. Let me know if I can help you with anything else, or if I can walk you through anything and I'll be happy to do so. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:06, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
Hi Osh, thank you very much for taking the time for explaining, reminding me all the helpful and kind software engineers once I worked with. I will enable the script one at a time as advised. Cheers! CASSIOPEIA(talk) 03:29, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
CASSIOPEIA - No problem. Let me know how it goes :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:33, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

AR-15 style rifle

Hi there, I have a question regarding that article. A week ago I made a revision to the lead that I thought addressed the concerns some editors raised on the talk page (which were that the word "many" in "many mass shootings" was too vague). That lead to some back and forth reversions, after which you locked the article. That lock expired a few days ago and nothing happened until today, when the lead was changed back to a version from before the 11th, and my attempts to restore it were reverted.

I think we have talk page consensus my edit was good, see here. There are five in favor (counting Mr rnddude who wanted something added to the body, which I tried to do today but was reverted) and three against. Maybe more importantly, the arguments put forward by the three opposed are very concise: "Clearly to much detail for the lead" and not "neutral tone" and were hardly expanded on. In favor, there is the fact that this does in fact summarize the body (where all the shootings in question are listed and have been for a while), is not long, is more specific than "many", and is reliably sourced.

Could you please advise me how to proceed in a situation where I think there is a consensus, but the opposed editors revert my attempts to follow it? I'm honestly trying to be constructive and improve the article by addressing the concerns people raised. I think there is a strong reaction any time any edit is made that clarifies the role these guns play in crimes and mass shootings. Thanks. Waleswatcher (talk) 19:08, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Waleswatcher, and thanks for leaving me a message here. I apologize for such a delay getting back to you - I've been busy in real life and I'm now catching up with my Wikipedia messages and emails. It looks like the discussion you pointed to here is still open, as nobody has formally closed it and stating that a consensus was reached to implement the revision cited (this one). One commenter in support even mentioned that admin intervention and close may be needed in order to formally determine consensus (if any). I would return to that discussion, ping the users who reverted your changes, and make sure that they're aware of it so that they can add input (if they haven't already). I would not make further changes to that section until the discussion closes and a decision is formally implemented (i.e. "This is the revision text that will be used for the summary paragraph") - since the discussion is still open, your changes are being made without a decision made yet - they're going to be reverted and seen as disruptive and outside the discussion... which is not what you want to do :-). Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. I appreciate the message you left here, and I hope the discussion comes to a fair and positive close. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:13, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Question

What happens if i forgot the password to my doppelanger accounts and if they are weak?Thegooduser Let's Chat 01:58, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi there Thegooduser. At best: absolutely nothing and the password isn't guessed, at worst: the account is compromised - but even then it isn't a big deal (unless the password is used elsewhere and they guess usernames) as the accounts are blocked and cannot edit in the first place, making them essentially worthless to target. The highest "value" accounts would probably be those with administrative (admin, 'crat, steward) rights, with those holding template editor rights being the second highest "value", which is a reason that most users in administrative roles have (or at least are encouraged to have) committed identities.
In short: don't worry about it (they can't edit), just consider changing your passwords elsewhere to be safe if you are worried and cannot access those accounts to change their passwords to something in left field. Hopefully this helps answer your question. --TheSandDoctor Talk 00:28, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
Oshwah what about the other projects?Thegooduser Let's Chat 20:42, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - They can edit on other projects if say they were compromised. Use a strong password. If you're still hesitant and afraid of compromise even with a strong password in place, just ask a steward to lock the accounts :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:24, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
OshwahI asked a Steward and they refused. Thegooduser Let's Chat 18:53, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
@Thegooduser: Did they say why? --(talk page stalker) TheSandDoctor Talk 05:15, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
@TheSandDoctor: they said "Locks are for the case in Global locks#Reasons to request a global lock. We usually don't lock as an preemptive measure, unless we are sure account is compromised. " Thegooduser Let's Chat 20:17, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - Okay, then I would stick to using a very strong password and one that you don't also use elsewhere (you're not going to log into these accounts anyways), make sure an email is confirmed on them and that the email doesn't use the same password, so you can recover the accounts just in case. And if anything should happen, they're just doppelgänger accounts and a Steward can easily lock them ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:17, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

That's not how Wikipedia works. Wikipedia is based on neutrality, we present all sides POV. Pushing your personal POV to achieve a personal agenda is contrary to Wikipedia's policy of neutral editing. Also, there is already an established consensus to use SOHR for casualty figures and it is considered a reliable/verifiable source when it comes to this. You would be well advised, as a number of editors have suggested to you, to use the talk page instead of edit warring. Oshwah, I would suggest that the article Turkish military operation in Afrin be again semi-protected for a while since the editor has again continued to vandalize the page by removing sourced info and its content, as well as making un-sourced and non-neutral edits. Also, Oswah, the IP editor seems to have made a single-purpose account now to continue with his edit warring and he has more than violated Wikipedia's 1RR policy today which applies to all Syria-related articles. Template request

Hi Oshwah! Could you add a template to your sub-sub userpage that, when substituted, looks like [REDACTED - Oshwah]? It should have a statement or something like that. - 209.52.88.238 (talk) 20:35, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

Uh, maybe not. I think people may use it for their own random purposes. It's your decision. - 209.52.88.238 (talk) 20:35, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
I added a template in my user space for this in order to make things easier for myself, but unless other admins wish to use it too I'm just going to leave it hard-coded with my username inside of it and just substitute it when I need to redact something. Good idea, though :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:20, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Vandalism by IP accounts

Hello Oshwah, could you please explain me how I can revert several disruptive edits by IP using accounts at once, without having to revert every single edit? How exactly is that done? I couldn't figure out that yet. And while we are at it, where can I ask to give protection status for an article? The List of Turkish football champions is being vandalized by IP users recently. Thank you in advance. Akocsg (talk) 21:43, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

@Akocsg: You can also install Twinkle. Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 00:08, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the information, I will look that up. Akocsg (talk) 06:00, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
Akocsg - Yup, what you're looking for is the rollback user right. It adds a [Rollback] button next to the latest edit on the page, and pressing it will roll back all edits made consecutively by that last user. So for example: if I add a change to a page, then someone else changes it afterwards, then I change it after that person's change - rollback will only remove my last change and not the change I made before the person. However, if I make consecutive changes together one after the other and nobody else makes a change between my edits, the rollback button would remove all of the changes I made consecutively and restore the page to the change made by the previous person. If I'm the only person that edited a page (say I create a page and make a bunch of changes afterwards and nobody else edits it), then rollback will not function. If you have any questions about this user right, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:25, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hello Pickn528! Oshwah has already commented on this topic before: link to thread. In short, the user has to prove that they really are who they say they are through the relevant Wikipedia channel (ie, an email to the volunteer response team). This information has already been provided in the block notice that Oshwah placed on the talk page of the user. They just have to follow those steps and they'd be unblocked. Jiten talk contribs 08:11, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
Pickn528 - The response here by Jiten D is correct; the response I made to this discussion explains exactly why I did not as well as cannot use that information to determine the identity of the account. Even though the media you're mentioning is obvious and public and exists for people to watch and view, on Wikipedia it's considered off-wiki information that the user did not disclose themselves on Wikipedia anywhere. Because this person didn't disclose it here themselves, per Wikipedia's policy I absolutely cannot take that media (or any other off-wiki information) into account and I therefore must follow this policy and treat that information as if it were personal identifiable information. All I can do is look through the user's edits and what they disclosed, and that's it. We take the anonymity and privacy of all of our users and editors extremely seriously and even to the point where situations like this (as silly as it may seem... yes, I do understand... lol) have to be treated just like any other situation involving one's identity and privacy. We simply cannot use it if the user doesn't disclose it on-wiki, which is why I blocked the account and the user must follow the instructions; they must actually disclose and verify with us (through OTRS) that their username is not an impersonation per Wikipedia's username policy. If they do so, the account will be unblocked no problem. I appreciate the message you left, and I thank you for letting me know about the account. I just wanted to make sure that you know as well as understand why I did what I did. When I have to respond to someone with the "admin hat" on and tell them "sorry, those are the rules" (in a nutshell), I try to make sure that I explain exactly why this is... then I don't come off as one of "those admins" that shrug off genuine concerns and blow people off with "nope, sorry" ;-). If you have any questions about Wikipedia's privacy policy (or any similar policy that applies here), please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message and I hope you have a great rest of your day. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:43, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

asking for advice

Hello Oshwah. I am just asking for your advice here. If you'll remember last summer there was a noticeboard where we had a discussion and you ended it off by saying if I ever had any questions or needed help let you know. To be honest I like to write and edit and have always done so in a serious way. I stayed off Wikipedia for many months as I grew tired of the turmoil if you will. I have always treated everyone with respect and had consideration for others edits, and felt I had not gotten the same in return in several instances. So here it is, my question is I made a well thought out, relatively minor, reliably sourced factual edit on Rudy Giuliani, another editor added to the sourcing which I thanked him for, and then a user who I feel has been unfair to me in the past despite me being very respectful of him and his editing reverted the entire edit using TW and leaving this comment:

(talk): There are lies, damn lies, and statistics -- and Aceruss always combines all three in his edits. (TW))
In Wikipedia:TW it says this: Anti-vandalism tools, such as Twinkle, Huggle, and rollback, should not be used to undo good-faith changes unless an appropriate edit summary is used.

Oshwah, again I am just asking for your guidance here, is what he did acceptable or unacceptable? Should I complain about it somewhere or ignore it? Should I re-edit the piece or just stay off Wikipedia for another 6 months? I will trust your judgment here and above all, THANKS for being nice and civil.

Aceruss (talk) 11:53, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Aceruss! I apologize for the delay responding to your message here. I've been busy in real life and I'm just now catching up with my Wikipedia messages and emails. I don't want you to feel that you're not welcome on Wikipedia or that the accusations and statements made by one editor should mean that you have to "stay off Wikipedia"... nobody is saying that to you, and I don't want you to do that. You obviously want to be here and improve the project, and even if what this user is accusing you of turns out to be an issue or mistake on your part - it should be treated like a learning opportunity and you just improve your work from there. That aside, I wouldn't consider the first statement you quoted above to be the most civil, no. I hope that the user who made this statement supplied diffs and proof to back up the accusations being made against you. Who is this user that you believe is being unfair and uncivil to you? Who exactly are we talking about here? Can you provide the pages and diffs of the comments that he left (what you quoted above)? I'd like to read the discussion entirely and get a full understanding of the entire context as well as a full look at both sides of the problem. I won't be able to do much until I have this information - can you respond with this information as soon as you can? I'll be more than happy to help you and make sure that concerns are expressed towards you fairly and respectfully, but I need the information so that I can obtain an objective view of the situation. I'll await your response here in the meantime. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:20, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Some advice please

I'm not forum shopping canvassing and I'm not dumping this hot potato on you. Just some advice. There are some editors who seem to think they own the Pit bull article. I'm thinking of doing a request for page protection for an Indefinite full protection. I wouldn't mind if it was declined. My concern is would I be making an ass of myself going there with that? I've done a lot requests there but for small stuff like IP vandalism. SlightSmile 13:57, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

Never mind I'm not going to try page protection. I still feel strongly - this isn't about the price of eggs. It's public safety! But I'm leaving it for now - I don't need the aggravation. SlightSmile 20:20, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi Slightsmile! I apologize for the delay responding to your message. I've was busy in real life and I'm just now catching up with my Wikipedia messages and emails here :-). Indefinite full editing protection will certainly not happen. That would only allow Administrators to edit the article and that would be the case forever... lol. Regardless, I don't look poorly upon users or think that they're "making an ass of themselves" simply because I declined their request for protection or decided to apply a different level than they asked for - don't be afraid to make a request if you genuinely believe that an article needs it. Just make sure to read and understand Wikipedia's protection policy, know the different protection levels, and understand when applying which protection level is appropriate and not appropriate and you'll be fine. in your case, I would have applied semi-protection instead of indefinite full protection and would have noted this in my response to the protection request. I took a look at the article, and due to the consistent amount of disruptive editing from anonymous users, I've applied semi editing protection onto it for a bit. That should hopefully stop the disruption you're observing. I'm sorry if the disruption left you frustrated or aggravated; it sounds like you have since requested protection and left it at that... I understand that things can get frustrating here, and I'm happy to see that you decided to step away rather than allow yourself to lose your cool and make rash decisions out of heated emotions. Please let me know if you need help with anything else and I'll be happy to do so. Thanks again for the message, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:39, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
I appreciate your reply, thank you. I didn't explain it well. It's not about the IP edits - that's baby stuff. It's the established editors who seem to OWN the article. They're driving away any established editors who don't share their POV that pit bulls are harmless pussy cats. I brought up some concerns on the article talk page here. In my case that particular day, they couldn't even allow an inline tag to sit for a reasonable time. I realized after I started this thread that full protection isn't really the way to go. SlightSmile 22:16, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi Slightsmile - thanks for responding with additional information. You did the best thing for this situation, which is to start a talk page discussion with your concerns over the content's neutrality. I would make sure that you've notified each editor involved by leaving a message on their talk pages about the discussion and linking them to the section. I'd also ping those editors in a statement within that discussion as well so that it shows you've made a very fair attempt to get them to add to the discussion and come to a consensus before making additional changes to the article. If any "back-and-fourth" reverting starts to happen, let me know and I'll take a look. Just don't get sucked in and start making repeated reverts yourself! Get help if you need it; otherwise it'll be considered edit warring - especially if you're breaking 3RR. You can report other editors for edit warring by filing a report at this noticeboard. Let me know if you have any questions or need anything else, and I'll be more than happy to help you out. I wish you well with the discussion and I hope it comes to a civil and positive close and with a fair consensus reached. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:28, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I keep reading about your doppelanger [sic] accounts every few days. Nothing, they are blocked, TPA revoked, just forget about them. byteflush Talk 23:12, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
Byteflush What about the other projects?Thegooduser Let's Chat 00:12, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
@Thegooduser: Nothing you should be worried about right now. In the remote chance it actually happens, the project admin may block the account(s) there, and perhaps a steward will then grant your request to lock the account(s) globally. A checkuser may also be able to verify that it wasn't you abusing them so no need to worry about that. I may be wrong, but I think that this is how it all works (since I don't have much experience outside en-wiki). In short - and this one I'm sure about - don't worry about those accounts as long as you don't voluntarily give away their password, or try to use them for whatever reason (not saying that you would; just saying). byteflush Talk 00:26, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
See the response I made above. If the Steward won't pre-emptively lock those accounts, then just make sure you have a strong password on them, you have an email confirmed to them and with a different password, and if any of the accounts become compromised a Steward can easily lock it. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:41, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Accounts on Wikipedia cannot be deleted. However, if you simply stop logging into the account or using it anymore (just pretend that it's dead to you and doesn't exist), you'll be fine and you won't need to worry about anything. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:50, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

If you stop logging into the account, any IP and browser agent information will disappear in three months and will not be able to be looked up by anyone. The only edits that were made from this account were over 10 years ago and the pages have been deleted, which means that your edits cannot be viewed by the public. You should be okay so long as you stop logging into your account. It's as "deleted" as it can be given the edits and how old the account is (depending on when you last logged into it). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:52, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

Hey Oshwah

Hi there. This is Dolfinz1972 again. I don't know how to handle a situation like this, but the user Serols reverted a warning I posted after he made a mistake rolling back my edit on List of environmental disasters. He then posted two false warnings about unconstructive edits on my talk page, and reverted a nice note I left on his talk page. I want to report that user, and I'm not sure if that's a fine idea. Is there also any way to delete the revisions on User talk:Serols? (both edits of Serols' revert, and my edit, and their edit summaries, both of which bother me. Requesting this to forget it.) Thank you. Dolfinz1972 (talk) 18:58, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Dolfinz1972. I would start off by leaving a message on Serols' user talk page here and asking him/her directly. Simply explain to Serols that you believe the revert to your edit and the warnings (s)he left on your talk page were erroneous and just ask him/her to look into it. I know Serols as a very nice person, and I trust that (s)he'll be willing to explain why (s)he reverted the changes made and left the warnings on your user talk page. Just be kind, genuine, and sincere to Serols, and (s)he will be kind and sincere in return. Let me know how it goes. Thanks for volunteering and for dedicating time towards cleaning up vandalism - your hard work is appreciated! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:58, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi ~Oshwah~, thank you for your mediation. His second post on my talk page was alright and was answered promptly. If Dolfinz1972 had given me the chance, I would have taken everything back. Thanks --Serols (talk) 15:54, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
