Help on Unidesk Article Deletion

Hello, I saw that you marked the article I submitted on Unidesk for Speedy Deletion. I am a new Wikipedia author and I am confused by this. I visited numerous US software company articles - Veeam, VMware, Citrix, EqualLogic, Autodesk, Nutanix, to name a few - to see how they were written, and I patterned the Unidesk article after them, including many more references from reputable sources such as industry analysts Gartner and IDC and respected publications such as Inc., Fortune, and Wall Street Journal. The article was very factual and documented the Unidesk history and recent acquisition by Citrix Systems.

Can you please explain why the article was deleted, how it is different from the many other software companies that are documented in Wikipedia, and what changes I need to make to repost the article? Unidesk is used by more than 1,400 companies around the world and raised $47M in venture capital prior to its acquisition by Citrix. It is an important technology company that is universally recognized for inventing a new method of delivering Windows applications, its technology will now be used by millions of people due to the global reach of Citrix, and its history should be recorded.

Elizabeth Crowley article

Hi Zack, thanks for your thanks and your edits at that page. Unfortunately the user is back, and is using a mobile IP, 2604:2000:69D3:B00:D073:7D81:9C45:27AF, now that they are blocked 48 hours, without trying to claim they are someone else, i.e. not a duck. This is even more disturbing as it indicates they don't understand the purposes of their block at all. I'm wondering if you could take a look at the page or at the SPI I started (as a formality) or the still extant noticeboard and weigh in or act if you choose. I don't want to be the only one seemingly witch-hunting the user, but do want my concerns with undue weight on the article addressed. Thanks! JesseRafe (talk) 18:14, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Infobox basketball season

I saw you closed the TFD for {{infobox basketball season}} et al. I relisted the template because I felt more input into the merge all/merge one issue was necessary. While I won't revert your edit, I ask that you consider re-opening it to allow for more input. @Primefac: upon further review I really shouldn't have brought that to TFD to being with... {{infobox basketball season}} was literally a 99% duplicate of {{infobox sports season}}. The only difference was that it added a 4th conference and hardcoded the {{{sports = Basketball}}} param. I've merged them all together and checked each transclusion. Destruction of contributions

This bot destroyed months of work to add U.S. certifications to older articles which had no other notation of their status. Thanks a lot. It looks like input for the decision to remove the parameter across the board in all articles was solicited primarily from editors who are focused on 21st century music which already included international certification boxes. Hundreds of certifications are now missing from many song articles as a result of this bot. Content should not have been destroyed in infoboxes without replacing it! - JGabbard (talk) 13:03, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

JGabbard, from the BRFA it appears that the conversation happened in multiple places, with overwhelming (unanimous?) consensus, and the removal of the information as a result of getting rid of the parameter discussed a few times (including the BRFA). The certification information can still be found by looking at the history (just find the edit where |Certification= was removed). It's rather unfortunate that this is coming up after the bot has finished editing, but it's not like the information can never be retrieved. Thanks for your response, Primefac. I found only one conversation on the topic, so I appreciate the additional information. It is good to see that some consideration of this issue was made. However, the resulting effect of the removal of the parameter is that in song articles where certification boxes are absent, the reader can no longer take note of platinum/gold/silver status at a glance without sifting through the text. Also, while in most articles the status is mentioned in the body, the prose is at times unclear or ambiguous as to which nation granted the certification. In-line citations in such articles are hit and miss as well, as references were in some cases eliminated from the infoboxes along with the parameter itself. Having to delve into an article's history to determine its status (or lack thereof) is certainly not the answer. I suggest that whosever idea it was to eliminate the parameter should also be willing to rectify all of these resulting issues, preferably by providing such articles with certification boxes. Doing so will not only repair collateral damage, but would also provide consistency of appearance of all song articles which have obtained special status. - JGabbard (talk) 15:33, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Given that there were multiple instances of copyrighted material being removed, I am disinclined to undelete the page, even if it is back to the draft space. Template:Infobox order

Hello Zackmann08, I just noticed that you had made a revision to Template:Infobox order on December 19 here. That revision has changed the way that two of the fields display by effectively making those two fields mandatory, whereas they used to be optional before. Specifically, the "awarded_by" and "country" fields only used to display themselves in the infobox if data was entered into those fields. However, after your revision, those two fields now display in the infobox even if no data is entered into either field. The problem is that the Wikipedia articles that use "Template:Infobox order" generally only use one of those two fields, and some Wikipedia articles that use that infobox do not use either of those fields. The result is that there are now lots of Wikipedia articles about orders that display "Awarded by" and "Award of" in the infobox, but there is data in only one or in none of those two fields. For example, if you look at Order of the Holy Spirit, you will see that the infobox displays "Awarded by" on the grey background, even though there is no data in that field. In order to solve this problem, those two fields need to be made optional (as they were before your revision) so that the heading only gets displayed if there is data in that particular field. Since this issue affects every article that uses this template, is there any way that you could possibly correct this? I would greatly appreciate your help, and please post a reply (as soon as you can) and ping me to let me know whether you are able to look into this issue now, or if I should somehow try to correct the template myself. Template:Infobox baseball league championship series

Tag bombing Philadelphia Bulldogs / Failure to observe WP:BEFORE

I'm not sure what WP:POINT you're trying to make with this edit, tag bombing the page for the Philadelphia Bulldogs. Details regarding the 1994 expansion and Tony Danza are explicitly provided in this source, already in the article. Tony Danza is even mentioned in the quotation cited in the reference within the article. Details regarding ticket sales are listed in this source, helpfully provided at the end of the paragraph. I do acknowledge hat the lack of a source for Bruzer, the lovable bulldog mascot, are needed, but that would hardly appear to be a justification for deletion. There ain't a WP:TROUT big enough for the slap that's needed here. Do you understand policy regarding WP:BEFORE that obligates you to look for sources *before* starting an AfD? Template:Infobox cycling race report

@Zackmann08: Recent year articles look perfect now (2015 Giro showing both team classifications now), but some older articles such as the 2004 Tour de France (which predates any season-long classifications such as the UCI ProTour, UCI World Tour et al.) are showing {{{series}}}, as if the parameter needs to be added to the infobox text, in order for to show as blank i.e. | series =. Would that not need to be input as {{#if:{{{series|}}} or something along those lines? I must admit templating infoboxes is not my forte! Craig(talk) 00:15, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Another great catch! I've fixed it but let me give you a quick lesson. You CAN use the if syntax... but a much easier solution is just to use the bar `|`. So if you have | above = {{{series}}} (without the bar in series) then if series is not provided you will get the output you saw. However, if you use the bar... | above = {{{series|}}} then if series is not supplied it will not display. The bar sets the default. Something you will see a lot in templates is | above = {{{title|{{PAGENAME}}}}}. What this is saying is "Look for the title param, but if it is empty, then just use {{PAGENAME}} (which is a MAGIC WORD). In our case, we are setting the default to null. I've made some changes that replicate the how it looked before and if the race had/has no teams. One thing that isn't working is first place, see 1903 Tour de France. Also, did you purposely not set the teams text size as small? BaldBoris 12:47, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

@BaldBoris: ok. Please re-examine your use of the phrase "urgent attention". The fact that a line shows up in the infobox does not mean it requires urgent attention. Please don't treat me like a fool. "Urgent attention" was referring to the cache problem! The fact that you ignored my initial request to fix first place isn't showing up in 1903 Tour de France (an issue that you have caused) is maybe why I said that. BaldBoris 03:00, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

 Fixed (display of "Winner"). Zackmann08, for complex templates with many transclusions, it is usually best to work only in the sandbox, trying out the sandbox output with a variety of test cases and then trying it in Preview mode in a variety of articles, before deploying changes to the main template. My favorite technique is this:

• Open the same article in two tabs.
• Edit the tab on the right, adding "/sandbox" to the template name in question.
• Click Preview in the tab on the right, then scroll down until the Preview version of the article in the right-hand tab aligns with the saved version of the article in the left-hand tab.
• Use the shortcut keys in your browser (in mine, it's command-option-right/left arrow) to quickly go back and forth between the two versions, looking for visual differences. I find that this helps me find tiny little differences.
• If you find a problem, fix it by editing and saving the sandbox (in a third tab), then Preview the right-hand tab again and repeat the process until the articles look the same. Remember to test the sandbox in a variety of articles. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:02, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

@Jonesey95: this isn't my first time... Look at my contribution history. I am also a template editor... I know how to test out templates in a sandbox. This particular template was a disaster. It was horrendously constructed with really poor conditionals. I know it's not your first time making this sort of error; that's why I'm suggesting a better way. Templates that are "disasters" are exactly the best ones to use the above technique on, and infoboxes are particularly easy to test using that technique, since they display all together at the top of the article in a known format.

I'm not saying that I'm perfect every time, but too many edits had to be made to this infobox template to get it to where it is now, and many of those problems, like not showing the winner of a race, could easily have been detected with sandbox comparisons or a page of test cases that did not affect mainspace transclusions. You don't have to take my friendly advice, but I think you will find that you get fewer complaints if you do. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:47, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

If, despite lots of testing, I really screw up a template (like with a big red error message) and then fix it and want to null-edit all of the articles that transclude it, I use these instructions I wrote for myself. It is impractical and inadvisable for anything over a few hundred transclusions, but it works well in a pinch. I haven't gotten in trouble for acting like a bot yet, but I have occasionally hit an editing rate limit of some sort and been locked out for a while. – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:02, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

I understand. But the page itself can exist without the links since the content is not dependent on them. WP:G8 only applies though when the page makes no sense without linking to other pages (like redirects for deleted pages or categories without pages in them). And again, I've declined your G8 nominations. The only ways that a template can be speedy deleted are after a TFD (via G6), misrepresentations of policy (T2), or hardcoded instances of other templates (T3). Everything else has to go through TFD. In case you were wondering, adding an "unused" criteria (generally requested as T4) is almost a perennial proposal, though you are welcome to start a discussion at WT:CSD about adding it to the list. New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello Zackmann08,

A HUGE backlog

We now have 819 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Using ZackBot for Infobox song

Hello Zackmann: If you're up for it, I have a new job for ZackBot. Consensus during a recent RfC was remove to the Form= parameter from {{Infobox song}}. I've gone through couple hundred and none have references or use {{ }} in the field and the info is nearly always in the article text somewhere – in short, it should be an easier task than removing the Certification from infobox single. (BTW, Category:Pages using Infobox single with deprecated certification parameter is now empty, although I'm still finding empty (unused) Certification= fields in infoboxes.) As last time, Form would need to be removed from the infobox song code (I've already removed it from the documentation) and a "Category:Pages using ... deprecated form parameter" created. A lot of the work you do on here inspired me to work hard on article-creating for this years California fire season. I was wondering if you considered my work on the 2017 California Wildfires as well as the individual-incident articles adequate or not. My goal is to create and maintain a properly informed page of incident information for this year. However, I'm not so sure I'm doing my best-- or if my writing is worth Wikipedia's space. Considering how well you worked on last years incidents, I was hoping you could give me some insight on what I should and shouldn't be doing when writing a proper article. Mathcad edits

Mathcad is a hybrid CAS / numerical equation solver.

ALthough Creo and Windhcill are by the same company, they solve different problems. Why should they be linked?

Creo: Finite element analysis. Just possible to argue that it is of interest; maybe we should increase te list of FE programs for balance? Windchill: Product Lifecycle Management. Rather harder to explain why this should be linked.

WPDINO

It seems I'll have to take this all to one place to avoid it being moved all across wikipedia, from WT:Teahouse to a friends talk page. I'd like this discussion to end now. I've only been responding with as much negativity as yourself, although it appears to have been jumbled on the talk page of {{WPDINO}} because of the speed of your replying and my slowness to edit. You should come to understand a few things first, before I end up having to slog through another heated argument on one of the other templates I edit and monitor.

You come along and add a tag on a template I'm working on to convert the entire thing to a new format. I look and find no policy on this, so I revert and tell you to discuss on the talk page first. At this point I would have no idea that you plan to convert the template yourself, because you just tag it and move on to tag other items. When I bring you back to the talk page you begin to spout that all templates placed on the right of a page should be {{Sidebar}} and {{Infobox}}, and that the change of format wouldn't affect the look.

At this point I went to the documentation of TL:Sidebar, and I'm looking through for features and parameters. I start out converting, and post the progress on the talk page. It looks nothing like the original template at this point, so I state that (paraphrased) "I strongly doubt this conversion will be worth any amount of my time". It's at this point that you say you will convert it. But I've already gone ahead and found examples of the format I want on other converted templates, on my own, without any direction or help from you or the wiki. So I quickly go into edit and reply that I was wrong and the template looks alright. But wait, you've already gone and added that I'm a "new editor" and need to learn proper manners, and we get in an edit conflict. My comments become garbled in an attempt for me to preserve your replies, so anyone going there now has to look through revisions to see the truth. Saying "there are features I do not want to be changed" is because, the template was specified and agreed upon by the project to look good and act nicely, so I want to keep both the aesthetic and the function. Apparently that means I violated policies? So you go along and claim you were trying to help, and that I can do it on my own and that we need to unify the look, even though the actual visual appearance is supposedly blessed to "look identical" to previously.

After our discussion is done, I see you've visited the Teahouse to ask if theres a policy on using Sidebar over anything else, which means that you didn't know of one. So my entire point of removing your tag because of a lack of policy was completely on point. Then my friend I discuss this affair with comes along to post that no-one will die if it's not converted, which both supports and rejects your point of immediate template conversion. You pop over to his talk page just to thank him for responding to me, because "not sure what that person's (my) deal is ... lol". I can't imagine someone so "experienced" can be so rude and offensive behind my back. I'm seriously considering checking to see what rights you have so I can get them revoked. Diving templates

Hi, first thanks for your work to improve sport templates, Can u tell me why you reverted my edits without any explanation ? I always prefer a bit of consistency and in this specific sport, I can't see any reason to divide it into two different sections of individual and synchro cuz they are not two different styles or something like that (for example recurve and compound in Archery) Mohsen1248 (talk) 17:36, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Consistency is exactly why I was doing this... {{DivingAt2008SummerOlympics}}, {{DivingAt2012SummerOlympics}}, {{DivingAt2016SummerOlympics}}, {{DivingAt2014CommonwealthGames}}, {{DivingAt2010CommonwealthGames}}, {{Diving at the 2011 Pan American Games}}, {{Diving at the 2015 Pan American Games}}, etc. all separate them into 2 sections. thanks for the answer, I think consistency between all Olympics templates for example has higher importance than all Diving templates. beside that I don't think those templates are created carefully. for example this one {{ModernPentathlonAt2008SummerOlympics}} has a line events . you can't see such things in other templates. Template changes: mixed event?

I see that "a" parameters go left and "b" parameters go right, useful for separate columns for men and women respectively, but what if there's a mixed event? Is there a way of getting it center-adjusted?

That's good news. But I was rather thinking of another possible problem, involving templates like {{2013–14 ISU SS men's 500}}, where there is (currently) no particular grouping in columns. If you check the article 2013–14 ISU Speed Skating World Cup – World Cup 1 – Men's 500 metres (you may have to refresh or purge the page to see the changed template properly), you'll find that it transcludes the template I just mentioned as well as one of those you have changed. With the help of them, the reader can cross-navigate both between the different events of that competition weekend, and between all competitions over that particular distance over the season.

Before, both templates had the same width, which I thought was kind of aesthetically nice ... but not after. Is there a way to obtain that again?

Oh, and are the V T E links really necessary, or can they be de-selected? The templates are unlikely to change after the season.

@HandsomeFella: oy vei... I think there are a couple of issues here... First I think the whole batch of ISU navboxes needs a revamp... that's just my 2 cents, but they are kind of all over the place. I want ping @Frietjes: and get some input from her. She is the real brains behind {{Sidebar games events}} Regarding the width issue, I would think it would be fairly easy to add a {{{style}}} to the template/module. I'm not sure that it is necessary, but I do see what you are saying about the aesthetics. Another approach would be to merge these templates. Not sure why there are SO many!!! Basically every event has 2 templates on the page. One shows you all the events at the same city/stop (World Cup 1, World Cup 2, etc), while the other links you to all the other city's that the same event took place in. Here's one idea, what if there was just one sidebar for each worldcup? {{2013–14 ISU SS WC1}}, {{2013–14 ISU SS WC2}}, {{2013–14 ISU SS WC3}}, etc. could all be merged with the separate {{{event#}}} being the city. That way all the links were displayed in one navbox? See User:Zackmann08/olympics for a proof of concept (NOT complete). This solution would actually merge all templates in Category:2013–14 ISU Speed Skating World Cup templates into one. No more width issue... What do you think? Ok, thanks for the input. After some experimenting, I found out that you can have the results* parameter without the event* parameter, and that solves it. I'll continue experimenting a little more before I go ahead and make the changes. Btw, are there a way to opt out of using the V T E links? As, I mentioned, the content of the templates rarely changes after the season. David Oyelowo Profile Picture

Hi Zach,

I work with David Oyelowo. We are trying to change his profile picture. He doesn't like his profile pic that Wiki is currently using. He wants it changed to the one I sent in. Please advise of how I can do this. I have tried through the Commons but it keeps rejecting the photo taken at the AFI Film Festival in 2014.

@Nmedits: there are a whole list of issues. First of all, you need to read WP:COI. Also you must consult WP:OWN. FInally, regarding the image, you cannot upload an image to wikipedia that you do not have the rights to. The photo taken at the film festival I'm sure you found online and thus you do not have the rights to. @DePiep: not sure what your issue is and why your knee-jerk reaction is to revert an edit without actually doing any investigation. Template:1964 Summer Paralympics IS a sidebar. The fact that it had a infobox class on it doesn't make it an infobox. Template:2008 Summer Paralympics, Template:2012 Summer Paralympics, Template:2016 Summer Paralympics etc. etc. etc... • See the very first diff here, that caused me being, hmmm, heavily surprised. It caused strange situations I could not understand at first glance. That was me "actually doing any investigation", and you've not objected to that conclusion afaik. From there I looked at some similar edits by you, and I pointed two out. Good to read in the latter cases you did have good reason, but that was not obvious beforehand and as you write here you still have a misunderstanding about the class meaning. In short: when class=infobox it is an infobox, that's how semantics work (same with class=navbox). This is what the section title says. So far this misunderstanding does not lead to issues wrt the two reverts you made in Olympics, but should not be applied to the first case. -DePiep (talk) 09:47, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

I have made some tries to input a "track" image option in this infobox in order to add an image of the track, only when available, at the bottom. I used a similar line as the one you used for the main image but it did not work. Could you help me on that?

Editing 'restricted' HTML Table

Hello, I am trying to edit an outdated and no longer applicable data for the UCSB Admissions data. I have no way of editing the labels or table itself. I am assuming I don't have access. This is unfortunate because the data in the table is no longer released by the school and so will never be able to be current. A new table needs to be created with different metrics as all other UC pages have except this one. How does one edit a 'restricted' table?FairJordy (talk) 00:10, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

New Years new page backlog drive

We have done amazing work so far in December to reduce the New Pages Feed backlog by over 3000 articles! Now is the time to capitalise on our momentum and help eliminate the backlog!

Awards will be given in tiers in two categories:

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

The NPP backlog at the end of the drive with the number of unreviewed articles by creation date. Red is older than 90 days, orange is between 90 and 30 days old, and green is younger than 30 days.

Backlog update:

• The new page backlog is currently at 3819 unreviewed articles, with a further 6660 unreviewed redirects.
• We are very close to eliminating the backlog completely; please help by reviewing a few extra articles each day!

New Year Backlog Drive results:

• We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!

General project update:

• ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.
• Reviewing redirects is an important and necessary part of New Page Patrol. Please read the guideline on appropriate redirects for advice on reviewing redirects. Inappropriate redirects can be re-targeted or nominated for deletion at RfD.

Highlights for this newsletter include:

ARBCOM

• Magioladitis 2 happened, leading to further restrictions on Magioladitis (decision, summary).
• Betacommand 3 was proposed to be amended to lift the indefinite ban on Δ, but was unsuccessful (decision).
• A motion concerning Crosswiki issues (mostly concerning Wikidata) was passed (see discussion).

BAG

• Hersfold was removed from the BAG due to long term inactivity.

BRFAs

We currently have 6 open bot requests at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval, and could use your help processing!

Discussions

While there were no large-scale bot-related discussion in the past few months, you can check WP:BOTN and WT:BOTPOL (and their corresponding archives) for smaller issues that came up.

New things

• WP:BOTDICT, a dictionary of common bot-related terms (see discussion).
• 6 inactive bots have been deflagged (see discussion).
• The 2017 Community Wishlist Survey happened. Two bot-related proposal passed, #6 deploy Article Alerts to other languages and #10 Commons deletion notification bot, although other entries may affect bots as well.
• Category:Wikipedia bots and its subcategories has had some cleanup. Bot-related pages that were historically important but are no longer of interests can be found in Category:Wikipedia bots (historical)
• The edit summary limit has been increased to 1000 characters (see T6715). If a bot you operate relied on the old truncation limit (255 characters), please review/update your code, as overly long summaries can be disruptive/annoying. If you want to use extra characters to have more information in your edit summary, please do so intelligently.
• You will soon be able to ping users from the edit summary (see T188469). If you wish to use this feature in your bot, please do so intelligently.

Upcoming

• HTML Tidy will be phased out in June 2018, or possibly earlier. This may affect some bots (see FAQ).

Paid editing

• Now that ACTRIAL is inoperative pending discussion, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

• The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
• Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies. A further discussion is currently taking place at: Can a subject specific guideline invalidate the General Notability Guideline?

Nominate competent users for Autopatrolled

• While patrolling articles, if you find an editor that is particularly competent at creating quality new articles, and that user has created more than 25 articles (rather than stubs), consider nominating them for the 'Autopatrolled' user right HERE.

• The next issue Wikipedia's newspaper The Signpost has now been published after a long delay. Upcoming changes to wikitext parsing

Hello,

There will be some changes to the way wikitext is parsed during the next few weeks. It will affect all namespaces. You can see a list of pages that may display incorrectly at Special:LintErrors. Since most of the easy problems have already been solved at the English Wikipedia, I am specifically contacting tech-savvy editors such as yourself with this one-time message, in the hope that you will be able to investigate the remaining high-priority pages during the next month.

There are approximately 10,000 articles (and many more non-article pages) with high-priority errors. The most important ones are the articles with misnested tags and table problems. Some of these involve templates, such as infoboxes, or the way the template is used in the article. In some cases, the "error" is a minor, unimportant difference in the visual appearance. In other cases, the results are undesirable. You can see a before-and-after comparison of any article by adding ?action=parsermigration-edit to the end of a link, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Foss?action=parsermigration-edit (which shows a difference in how {{infobox ship}} is parsed).
