Guideline and policy news

• Wikipedia:Pending changes/Request for Comment 2016 closed with no consensus for implementing Pending changes level 2 with new criteria for use.
• Following an RfC, an activity requirement is now in place for bots and bot operators.

Technical news

• When performing some administrative actions the reason field briefly gave suggestions as text was typed. This change has since been reverted so that issues with the implementation can be addressed. (T34950)
• Following the latest RfC concluding that Pending Changes 2 should not be used on the English Wikipedia, an RfC closed with consensus to remove the options for using it from the page protection interface, a change which has now been made. (T156448)
• The Foundation has announced a new community health initiative to combat harassment. This should bring numerous improvements to tools for admins and CheckUsers in 2017.

Camp Century

Maury, not sure if this is in your bailiwick, but do you have any sources on Camp Century? It was a US military base under the Greenland ice cap, and some ice cores were drilled there in the 1960s. I've started List of ice cores and would like to get the altitude of the camp; I can see that it's 6180 feet from some unreliable sources but would like to get something more reliable if possible. @Mike Christie: Oh yes, I remember reading a scifi book where they had missiles under ice, and then read about Century sometime later and realized where he got the idea. There was a fairly lengthy article on Century just a few months back in one of the US military magazines, I'll see if I can track it down. It's a totally fascinating topic IMHO, speaking to both the high-tech arms race of the era, as well as the US Army's inferiority complex that made them pursuit such crazy ideas. For now all I need is a source for the altitude, but if you find anything about the ice core drilling projects (1960-66, and then apparently one in 1977) let me know (particularly the 1977 one). I agree it's fascinating; it's surprising that the Project Iceworm and Camp Fistclench articles are much more detailed than Camp Century. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
