Re: Untagged Croatia articles

I meant deleting the WP Europe banner ({{WikiProject Europe|...|Croatia=yes}}) and adding the new WP Croatia banner ({{WikiProject Croatia}}), as most of these articles don't fall within the scope of WP Europe, but landed in its category as the WP Croatia banner was instated. Anti-Croat circles

These (anti-Croat circles) were the politicians that abolished many football clubs and even destroyed their archives under the lame excuse "they collaborated with enemy". Axis order of battle at Stalingrad

I've I remove the Wikiproject Germany tag, does that mean, it never hapened and German soldiers were never at Stalingrad? How great it would be if we could remove the Wikiproject Germany from the Hitler, Goebbels and Himmler articles and be rid of them once and for all out of our history! No worries, I just read the word tenuous, which, I had to check it up, redirects to Doubt. And there can be little doubt that Croatian forces were there. Whether you want the page to be part of Wikiproject Croatia is your choice, I'm not a member and therefore don't really want to interfere there, thats why I havn't reverted you. Anti-communist Volunteer Militia and V.A.C.

V.A.C. It is a duplicate of Anti-Communist Volunteer Militia, but it's much more detailed, so I'd suggest taking the content from V.A.C. and incorporating it into Anti-Communist Volunteer Militia. Once this process is finished, merge tags can be removed and V.A.C. can be made to redirect to the target article. See Help:Merging and moving pages or ask me if you need help. I disagree on the name of Anti-Communist as in the original italian it is "Anti Comunista" the hyphen is a later error of some author. the political name, used by the fascist party administration, was "Anti Communist Volunteer Militia" but the military usual denomination was Bande V.A.C. as "Bande" is the term used by italian military for irregular auxiliary forces, see the colonial italian Army use for this I would suggest a name for the Wiki article as "Anti Communist Volunteer Militia - Bande V.A.C." merging the two names

Disappointment

Hi, sorry if I write to you, but I don't want to flood the project page with my lamentations. So you're the lucky one who will be annoyed :D. Of course, if even you will tink I'm an 'intruse', you can just ignore this post, I'll survive. :)

I'm en enthusiastic contributor of the Wikipedia project, and in general I support any wiki project in any language I understand, from ages. I'm active mainly in it.wiki, where I registered the Yuma account, as it is the language I can master in the best way, and that's the reason because it happens that I'm a sysop on that wiki. But I consider myself a contributor of the whole project, and since I have a global account I do what I can with that same account anywhere I'm able to do something, spending the time I have in making some effort to contribute in collecting and developing free content. I never said I'm Italian, or Swiss, or whatever. My nationality is irrelevant: I'm a wikipedian, here. I completely agree with the philosophy of this project, beginning from the five pillars. Usually, I don't edit so much on geography articles. My interests are more 'humanistics', though I'm a wikignome on everything.

It happens, a few weeks ago, that I found an incredible rise of anger from some it.wiki editors, about a supposed anti-italian approach on the english side. Since I felt it like an absurd issue, and since I feel myself not just an it.wiki user, I tried to understand. I thougt that issue was untrue, and unjust, and basically the result of a case of trolling. The next time I logged in here, I took a look on some articles, and I found some little problems on bilingual articles. The best way to fight trolling is to eliminate the 'material' on which trolls keep feeding. That's why I pointed it, at first, to the editor. His response was harsh and non so satisfating, so I asked to the wikiproject.

Now, I'm not used to flame, but I realize that, in posting there, I probably was offending some sensitivity. But I did'nt expected to be treated as an intruse. I'm higly disappointed. We are writing an encyclopedia, we must find the most correct way to add info. But if some issues has the clear purpose of hiding as much as we can some info (today the 'italian' toponyms, tomorrow something else), I can't see the difference with the people coming here for 'exalting' such data. I probably mistaken in the way I noted it, but I'm used to be honest, and to tell what I think. Did I was offensive?

By the way, I think I rised a problem, and I contributed enough in analysing it. Sorry if I was 'intrusive'. I will try to abstain from the project page, since someone thiks I have no right to 'make lectures' (and since I'm able to keep myself cool, but sometime it's tiring). I'm confident that there is a lot of excellent users, and you will find the best way to handle it.

I feel like a murderer at the victim's funeral... nevertheless, I feel I must comment on Yuma's post since it appears to concern me. A Wikipedian's mettle can be seen in the way he handles criticism (constructive or no). I myself don't do so well there and am admittedly aggressive in discussion at times, however, I don't think this was one of those instances. In my opinion, Alasadair was somewhat unnecessarily harsh towards Yuma who seems to sincerely desire to help with this issue. No major incidents occurred, though, and all this boils down to a few "not-so-perfectly-friendly" posts. Hardly a cause for all-out "disappointment with everything".

As for this subject, and I cannot stress this enough, it is highly controversial. If you think this is bad Yuma, have a look at Talk:Kosovo, the hate is seeping out of every written word. That was Dalmatia/Istria ten months back, and you've just jumped into it: you have to be prepared for some harshness of tone, a few months there and you lose your temper and reputation but gain a cardiac disorder :P. I'll just say again, in conclusion, that the matter is controversial and that consensus needs to be reached properly before anyone forces any decisions. --DIREKTOR ^(TALK) 19:52, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! Yes you are right, definition makes the category span something like 10 centuries of Croatian history, but if (when) that come to a problem, we can make Subcategories. Yes, they were probably two different articles before. If you look at article History of Croatia, you will see two different sections: Medieval Croatian state (until 925) and Kingdom of Croatia (925-1102). Talk:Serbo-Croatian language

Why should we write Serbo-Croatian in SR Croatia (the article) and other similar cases?

Did you see the discussion at Hey, Slavs in relation to the SC issue? I have found out that at books.google the 10% of books use the term Croato-Serbian. Why should this encyclopaedia differ?

Did you see:

• Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Macedonia/international organizations ?
• Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Macedonia/Greece-related ?

The article is under SC name

What more DIREKTOR and I. Š. would want. I hope that you realize, that by various Wiki policies the RfC can "decide" (in fact give an unbounding agreement) only on the article under which the RfC were requested. The RfC on SC/CS in the SC article is not bounding for all the other articles on wikipedia. Mr. DIREKTOR deliberately disclosed only his "search" on google, but not on books.google.

Here is a very important diff from the past where Mr. DIREKTOR wrote about the bos, hrv, and also srp as being non-existant — because there is only Serbo-Croatian (by his POV). Also he describes in the same diff (slightly below his POV on languages) the POV on nations, he describes as the TRUTH (he writtes a lot of capital letters) his own POV that Bosniaks, Croats, (I presume he included the Montenegrins also) and Serbs are one nation.

It might be Ok to use the "name" of the article Serbo-Croatian in most cases but in all cases. Why? SR Croatia was not Estonian SSR (and other Baltic states) where Russian was forced as official.

Please reconsider the implications on the sources and reliability.

GNG

WP:GNG and WP:NOTNEWS conflicts. The hot news of total will have significant coverage. Some murder articles have been deleted because of NOTNEWS and BLP1E (even if the person died and is not living). I don't understand why articles are treated differently. People say WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS but that is just an excuse for unequal treatment. I have nothing against the LA Fitness murder. Croatian footballers

Hi Gregor. As you noteced ( since you´ve made the Talk pages) I´m making many footballer pages, maynly the ones that have played in Serbia and ex-Yugoslavia. I did a new one: Marijan Zovko. But I have some doubts... This time I did the Talk page. I did it as you did one other before, Davor Čop, is it OK? Whenever I do some Croatian player I´ll do it this way, should I? Another thing is about the player itself. I´m not sure if you´re the one I should ask you this stuff, couse I´m not sure you like or not football, but I´m missing all the manager years and teams of Marijan Zovko couse I can´t find more either by net or by the literature I have. I know he has been coaching many teams in Croatia. Do you know more that I missed? And, maynly, he´s named Marijan, but I also find some places where is written Marjan (without i ). Article moves

Hi, you left a message on my talk page about my article move concerning Stadion Maksimir. I did it because it seemed inconsistent to have the majority of articles about Croatian stadiums named the way they are originally called in Croatian (like Gradski stadion u Poljudu or Stadion Šubićevac) with only some of them retaining English translations in article names (like Maksimir Stadium or Kantrida Stadium). If you look at lists such as the list of Spanish stadiums, list of French stadiums or list of Italian stadiums, you will see that 99 percent of articles are named according to their original name in the native language. Granted, there are a few exceptions to this, such as Santiago Bernabéu Stadium or Vicente Calderón Stadium, but it seems that the general tendency is to keep the original name, even though you could find English-language sources for venues such as Stade de France or Stade Vélodrome if you wanted to. Having that said, I don't think that WP:UE applies here as the rules you cited concern foreign names and transliteration, which is not the issue here. The issue here lies with whether to use English-language formatting or keep the original one (whether Croatian venues should be called Stadion XXX or XXX Stadium). In my opinion it should be the former as I think we should try to stick with the official name of the venue as precisely as possible (which is also the reason I moved Stadion Kranjčevićeva to Stadion u Kranjčevićevoj ulici as it is it's full official name), but if you still disagree we could look for help at WP Football to resolve this. Thank you for providing that information. The economic development of the Yugoslav republics is actually something that really interests me. Would your atlas have per capita info on cities in the former Yugoslavia? (I'm interested in the capitals so mainly Belgrade, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Skopje, Ljubljana, Podgorica and maybe some other big cities such as Novi Sad, Split, Banja Luka)? Also do you have data on the ethnic make up on the big cities of Croatia such as Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, Osijek, Zadar, Pula, Slavonski Brod, Karlovac, Sisak, Varazdin etc.? Battle of Pákozd

Thanks for rating that. I didn't know whether I should include it under Croatia at all, and another editor has removed the {{Croatia-hist-stub}}, no problem with that, it's easier that you get sight of it and remove it than that you never see it at all.

We're still in the middle of translating it, we have the top and tail but there is a battle missing, so if you think it is of any importance to your project at all, I should like to resubmit it again probably at the end of today (London time here). I don't mind if it still stays stub-class, but was perhaps premature for me to add the tag, and thus premature for you to assess it. Didn't realise it would be so quick!

I realise this is may be better put on the WikiProject Croatia page, and don't mind if you move it there, but I'm not and don't want to be involved in that project (not for any reason except I am concentrating on Hungary) so I talk to you personally first.

There is something you may be able to point me in the right direction: I am trying to get boundary coordinates right for {{Location map Kingdom of Hungary}} and I naively used the Croatian map, but Modrus-Fiume seems to have expanded a bit and Lika-Krbava is not the southern extent of Croatia (as it was for Kingdom of Hungary) so those coords are basically bollox. They do not have to be very precise, only to one decimal point, so if you happen to know of a town or mountain or something in those places that I could get a good fix off of that would be great. I have tried searching but cocked it up, I will continue to refine it (currently Budapest comes out too far northeast) but if you had a good e.g. seaside resort it would save my just doing it by brute force.

Thanks for that. I would not expect usually a reply so quickly, so it just caught me by surprise you had assessed etc. so quickly. Of course, quite rightly, the articles are assessed differently from different perspectives. We are stuffing in the battle now. I've anglicised the battle maps (and at the other articles too) which does not help you much, I expect, in Croat, I have blank versions after deleting the text and finessing the rivers etc that they covered, if that is any use to you. Otherwise the newbie author doesn't know what's happened, thinks he pressed the wrong button, and often just puts the article in again. Also, if it's a new contributor who has never had a Welcome template, it's useful to give one before the speedy warning - it makes it less BITEy, and gives useful links that may help him do better next time. {{subst:firstarticle|<article name>}} is a good one. Old City Hall

Hi Gregor, I've created the Old City Hall (Zagreb) article and nominated it for DYK (with a hook saying that the building has a plaque commemorating Tesla's proposal to build a power station). The hook was verified but somebody complained about the lack of inline citations so if you can find any for the plaque or the city hall in general please feel free to add them to the article. I've also created the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb article just now so you can have a look at it and perhaps expand with anything interesting you happen to find about it. I've created the Marshal Tito Square article, so you can add it to the list :-) As for the 1964 flood I'll try to find some sufficiently detailed information about it and see if it could be turned into an article. The HRT article is weak on actual facts. As for the synagogue, I think it's looking good, perhaps it could do with some copyediting as it feels kind of choppy and perhaps some book references. Blanka also looks good, it seems to me she's ready for GA nomination. In any case, I'm willing to help, we are in dire need of better quality articles related to Zagreb and Croatia. User Fajberglas

Hi Gregor. User Fajberglas recently started constributing to Croatia-related articles, including the creation of Tomislav Karamarko article. However, the person insists on listing Croatia as "place of birth", even though the consensus is to list sovereign countries at the time of person's birth. I've left him a message in his talk page, but he seems stubborn in his ways and he asked for some sort of official policy regulating this. I'm sure there were some discussions about this somewhere but I can't find it so if you would be so kind and look it up and provide links to relevant discussions or at least explain the importance of consensus builing and formatting conventions to him, I'd appreciate it. I, like many, have always favoured historical accuracy for a multitude of reasons and I have found that it is only on a politically driven motive that users (normally IPs) have taken to modern day states. There can be no politics with history, for example, Yugoslavia - in one form or another - can at most cover persons born 1918 to 1991 with the extension to 2006 for Serbia and Montenegro. Before 1918 we have to consider such entities as Kingdom of Serbia, Austria-Hungary, Republic of Venice, Ottoman Empire, Holy Roman Empire etc. and you can see why these details are relevant to each individual. It is pointless listing a person who lived millennia back as being born in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. If I knew how, I would push for a policy to the point that such amendments would create tags for the Recent Changes watchers to notice (eg. tag: historical details removed). However, there is one way - if you favour either version but not on any political ground - that you can come out on top every time. Consider the following:

Mr. XYZ - born Manastir, Ottoman Empire (now Bitola, Republic of Macedonia) on 18 May 1895, died Titograd, SR Montenegro, SFR Yugoslavia (now Podgorica, Montenegro) on 4 August 1986.

Here you have information listing everything, so you can use the argument that a user is being disruptive if he removes the historical section, and he cannot claim any kind of "uncluttering" remark because it does not count if he is removing factual information. Zagreb Synagogue

I had not seen that. Thank you. The Zagreb Synagogue is certainly one of the most beautiful. And, of course, no style is ever "pure." Some aspects of Rundbogenstil can indeed be seen in the rows of arched, inverted crenelation, and the tripartie massing. That aid, Franjo Klein tined in Vienna, where Ludwig Förster had recently completed the Leopoldstädter Tempel. It was the biggest deal synagogue in the capital of the Empire. It features the same rounded arches, the same tripartie massing and the same inverted crenellations. The two also share the emphasis on Moorish detailing, the same interior shape with Moorish patterning, the same minarets and small, decorative accent windows above the arches. Zagreb is widely admired, and widely regarded by its admirers as one or a large number of Moorish revival synagouges of the era that offer homage to Forster's Leopoldstädter Tempel, although Zagreb is an original work that does not copy the Vienna synagogue slavishly. It really is Moorish. If you will look at the range of Rundbogenstil buildings and synagogues, you will see how different the style of the Zagreb synagogue really is. we can probably do a Category:Synagogues that echo the Leopoldstädter Tempel.OldShul (talk) 12:50, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

gnutella vs Gnutella

Hi, I've recently done changes to several articles that are about gnutella and related services and clients to change the upper case "Gnutella" occurrences to lower case ones, as this is how gnutella was originally written, before that trend came up to capitalize everything... It is illegal appropriation and copying of Croatian texts, Croatian is not Serbo-Croatian or Serbian text

• Regardless of how each other a little or a lot of different grammar they have some ownership of the language, which were written and what the people who wrote them.

Croatian and Serbian are different languages in a sense that they both have distinct, independent and more or less well-defined language standards. In this context, you are correct that they are different regardless of how small the difference is.

However, that simply doesn't mean that it would make sense to create a four-way fork with Bosnian grammar, Croatian grammar, Montenegrin grammar and Serbian grammar. Grammar is the area where differences are really small, unlike lexicon and orthography (where differences are still small). Creating a single article is a consequence of what makes sense and what doesn't, and not what is identical and what isn't. It is not a some kind of "verdict". My impressions were as follows:

• Strong political bias was definitely present in the discussion
• Distortion took place mostly in the form of whitewashing, i.e. by attempting to remove all references to Israel, contrary to what sources said. A nice example: a six-page Salon article does not count and cannot be used as a source because it received a perfunctory, three-sentence "debunking" by the Washington Post.
• Regarding conduct of individual editors, I can't say that I noticed anyone in particular acting in bad faith. Off the top of my head, I don't have an opinion on conduct of two users you mentioned, but I'll check the link provided above. GregorB (talk) 10:09, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Other editors still make the claim that the israeli "art student" spying was an "urban myth." They will not even admit that this labeling is at least controversial. Whereas in reality, the israeli "art student" spy ring seemed to be at least "suspected."

I left this abc 20/20 article out of the discussion because it doesn't mention the "art students" specifically but does confirm that at least two known israeli spies were found to be in the u.s. illegally in 2001. They would probably say that 20/20 is not a credible or mainstream source either. I suggest that you read through this source also to verify that at least two israeli spies were found in the u.s working for a moving company that disappeared.

I wouldn't care about offline sources, as everything from them is already used in the article. The main problem is - lack of more precise informations. But, we can not speculate and write something which is not supported by sources. There is nothing that I or you can do about that. That leads us to a second problem - lack of more precise informations leaves room for substantial confusion. We should consecrate on this issue. If you could made article more simple to understand, that would be great. If the article was one sided, we wouldn't have this problem. Since I didn't want to exclude other possibilities from the article, we have a situation where things looks confusing for a new reader. My plan is to make things more clearer from the facts already presented in the article. Unfortunately, my limited English could be an obstacle in that. GA within WP Croatia

• I am not so pessimistic about Battle of Szigetvár. For #4 I provided both: from 19th century & modern scholarly references (ie after World War II) for for the number of troops (if necessary I could provide more). If all other points are fixed, with copyediting as a final touch, there would be no problem.
• Informal process of "GA candidature" within WP Croatia sounds good, the lack of editors for such a task in questionable. Tomobe03 looks very promising.
• To bring Lastovo and Blanka Vlašić to GA is very interesting. But, Lastovo will be much harder, even as a former FA. Kebeta (talk) 17:34, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Cite template

Hi! I've noticed you have changed formatting of some inline citations in A1 (Croatia) articles from "cite web" to "cite journal" and added some parameters to them. I tried but could not find any reference to other possible cite parameters, so could you point me to those so I could use them as well. I emulated the citation format for HUKA bulletins in A3 (Croatia) and A6 (Croatia) which I plan to submit to GAN after a copyedit (no volunteers there yet) but I am wondering if there is anything else I should implement. North-south to east-west?

Hi! A copyeditor pointed out on the Talk:A6 (Croatia) that the A6 motorway is an east-west road while the article specifies the northern and the southern termini. I must admit that is a valid argument, but the legislation (regulation on motorway chainage) specifies that the zero chainage starts at Bosiljevo 2 and that all Croatian motorways chainages start at either the northern or the western terminus - thus it follows that Bosiljevo 2 is the northern terminus. I am thinking about having the article say that the route is an east-west motorway and referencing everything else on the route as east or west of some reference point, but retaining the northern and the southern designation for the termini, plus a short passage in the route description section and a short sentence in the exit list noting and explaining this situation. Choice of title for HUKA

Hi! I just finished expanding the A4 (Croatia) and realized that an awfully lot of references point to HUKA and it occurred to me that it might be handy to have an article on that. Now, that should not be much of a problem, and I'm ready to do it, but I'm unsure whether to have its title Hrvatska udruga koncesionara za autoceste s naplatom cestarine or Croatian Association of Toll Motorways Concessionaires. There was much confusion, repetition and unneccessary detail which I removed. Regarding AfD 3 of Kresimir Chris Kunej, just wanted to say that you have yet again proved that old saying "Tko ce koga nego svoj svoga". The subject is one of a rare few Croatian articles, part of Wikiproject Croatia. Also, some editors made fun of Croatia indirectly by saying "just because some library half way around the world has his works means nothing" (we are talking National and University Library Zagreb), and after AfD 1 same editor was talking with friends and making fun saying how "subject is notable in Pakistan" thereby equating Croatia to Pakistan. Croats in general tend to be obsessed with proving the importance of their country to third parties and comparing Croatia to Pakistan is sure to hit a patriotic chord every now and then (for instance, Croatia's economic performance was recently compared to that of Turkmenistan by the MMF, and the comparison itself was a main talking point in the media for days to come, much more so than the negative economic indicators which were published months earlier by Croatian institutions). Turqoise here is just trying to play the patriotic card on a fellow Croatian editor somehow equating the Kunej article with patriotism in general. I also might add that there are some 6,000+ of the "rare few Croatian articles, part of Wikiproject Croatia" he refers to, the majority of which have no notability issues. Maths rating

I noticed you added a {{maths rating}} template to the article Future of mathematics. When you add the template, please fill in all three of the fields class, priority, and field. We already have a List of mathematics articles that does not require any talk page tags, so there is no need to tag a talk page just to indicate that an article is mathematics related. The count of mathematics articles is at Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics/Count, where it is updated by a bot, which again does not require any talk page tags. We also have Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics/Current activity which ... you can guess.

If we wanted to add the tags to talk pages, we could run a bot job that would add them to every math article very quickly. We have avoided doing that because the point of the template is just for ratings, not for tagging. So yes, we are different than other projects. If you don't feel comfortable adding the rating info, that's perfectly fine. But there's no benefit to adding the template without it, because we have a system in place that allows us to do perfectly well even if our talk page tag was deleted from every article. — Carl (CBM · talk) 23:24, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Would you please explain to me the reasons behind edits like this one? I nearly always have good solid reasons for the order in which I footnote my sources, but people are constantly coming along and moving the most recent ref to the front, as though my reasons are nothing compared to the imperative of having them in reverse chronological order. I know that technically you were right, but the rules are vague, ambiguous and nothing is going to suit all situations. If it was an IMDB link, or a probably reliable, but related party (such as employer, sporting organisation, government or faculty) website, I wouldn't have contacted you, and may have even left it as is, with the unref tag. If it was an obviously unreliable source, then I'd agree with you. I tend to use the "what would a newbie editor" think approach. If I had created that article, and put that ref in, but put it as a ext link, not an inline ref, because I didn't know better, then what would I think if I saw that tag? I'd think you must be blind and would remove it, or think this is all too hard and leave. The more informative tags actually acknowledge that, yes, there is a ref, but you haven't formatted it correctly or put it inline.
