Deletion of Draft:OrmucoEdit

Dear Materialscientist,

I hope my message finds you well.

Last Wednesday, May 15, you deleted a draft I wrote for the company "Ormuco". I am wondering if I may receive further feedback.

The grounds for deletion were G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion. I have reviewed G11. Unambiguous advertising or promotion as well as Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion.

I attempted to write neutrally in describing Ormuco's history and product offerings. I included five independent references including from Bloomberg, Financial Post, and the UK Department for International Trade. Nonetheless, my article was deleted.

I would like to know how I could improve the article should I like to rewrite it, or if you would suggest I submit the article for review through the Articles for Creation process.

I noticed previous versions of the Ormuco page have been deleted in 2013 for G11. Unambiguous advertising or promotion and 2014 for A7. No indication of importance (people, animals, organizations, web content, events). However, as time has elapsed since then, I have attempted to republish the Ormuco article, especially as Ormuco has patented its technology in 2016.

I believe mentions of Ormuco's 10+ year history, patent holdings, and media features pass through the notability test in User:Ihcoyc/The presumption of non-notability for Internet related, computing, and services businesses.

I would greatly appreciate hearing your thoughts. Thank you for your time.

Regards, LuoXizi (talk) 14:39, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

(by talk reader) @LuoXizi: WP:B2B (which you point to) is just an essay. WP:NCORP and WP:GNG are the law of the land. History, patent holdings, and the rest don't matter. We need multiple, independent, reliable sources that provide significant coverage about the subject. As we've rejected this multiple times, I'd quit pressing the issue. Hi Materialscientist,

Can you tell me which edits caused you to block 5.173.128.0/17 (talk · contribs · WHOIS)? Someone who was blocked under that range is also using an account to edit, so I was wondering if the block was for those edits. Jayjg (talk) 15:47, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

Semi-Protection for some storm articlesEdit

Hello. Can you please Semi-Protect all of the listed articles? They have been popular targets for vandals recently. I refrained from requesting protection for some of those articles in order to honeypot vandals, but the sheer amount of vandalism that those articles (particularly Cyclone and Tropical cyclone) have experienced in the last few months is simply ridiculous. I'm also starting to grow tired of having to constantly police those articles. Can you please Semi-Protect them for a while to curb the disruption? Thanks. Administrator, reporting a user to your attention. This account Extra taste of knowledge is clearly WP:NOTHERE. Reemergence of account with unsourced editsEdit

Hello! You had few reverted some unsourced huge edits made by an account named Fan101ovo on pages such as Commissioner of Karachi and Pakistan Administrative Service in the months of February and March. You had gone on to block the account from editing if I recall correctly as those warnings went unheeded. However, it has come to my notice that once again similar unsourced edits are being made by an new account named Sindhimanoo. Please look into this. Thank you (Ereckkarja (talk))

MaxfullhighEdit

I'm not quite sure what's going on or why you've blocked them indefinitely, but you have made some serious errors: breaking the infobox in Iran, removing mention of Berlin as a state, reinserting a BLP violation into John Abraham (actor). And those are just the three I happen to look at! Please review. Thanks. El_C 04:12, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

Yes, my mass rollback of Maxfullhigh was definitely not a good idea, please revert me at will! Indefblock because I do believe this is a block evasion, but can't identify the master right away. Materialscientist (talk) 04:28, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

Warning received re unreferenced or poorly referenced additionsEdit

Dear Materialscientist, I too am busy in the outside world, but enjoying a few days' break. Sometimes - mea maxima culpa - I contribute without signing in. Today I found a note from yourself telling me to desist from adding unreferenced or poorly referenced material or I would be blocked. Never happened before! It was on the IP page and not on my User page. Is this owing to my contribution, which has since been edited, to the Dead or Alive article? (Steve Coy's passing)

I've been contributing to Wikipedia for 25 years or so. (at least 20, methinks) - although just at the level of writing things and creating the odd article. There has been the occasional shout of praise for my work too, so please accept my apols if I've offended in any way. No need for reply but if you wish to, please send to my Talk page.

Best, FCleff (talk) 14:55, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

(by talk reader) @FCleff: "I've been contributing to Wikipedia for 25 years or so. (at least 20, methinks)" This isn't so. Wikipedia is 18 years old and FClef (whom you claim to be) didn't start editing until four years after that. I mention this point because being a long-time contributor does not (in my mind) excuse sloppy editing. As this is a collaborative project, I would expect long-time volunteers to remember what they owe the rest of their fellow editors. Chris Troutman (talk) 15:03, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
Blimey! {tips cap contritely} So sorry for getting my guesstimate wrong. Yes, I am FClef. I take your point, even if it is delivered with a sneering highhandedness that your elevated position does not excuse.FCleff (talk) 15:30, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

User returns with more vandalismEdit

MaterialScientist, you blocked 82.24.219.11 back in December after a series of edits altering the accurate scores in articles so they are no longer correct. They've come back a number of times since and have done the same, though no one has reported it. It's a number of hours since the most recent edits were done (each one reverted), but they're clearly not here to build an encyclopedia, instead attempting to reduce its accuracy. If there's anything you can do to further discourage this activity, it would be much appreciated. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:37, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Rangeblock questionEdit

The rangeblock on 66.27.0.0/16 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) (which I happen to be caught in) has a relatively long block duration and has the account creation blocked flag set. Is there a good reason to block an entire /16 (especially a residential one, where users might want to create accounts)? I'm just thinking this could either be reduced in scope, duration, or perhaps removing the account creation flag. Apparently as an account creator I can't bypass that flag, which makes doing WP:ACC work a bit, well, problematic. — AfroThundr (u · t · c) 01:05, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

Vandalism at 1970 Bhola cycloneEdit

Hello. Can you please Semi-Protect 1970 Bhola cyclone for at least 5 years? The article has been frequently, persistently vandalized for the past 10 years, and almost every single anon edit within the last decade were some form of vandalism (there's also plenty of nasty activity in the Edit Filter Log). Since the article is about a very notable storm (the deadliest tropical cyclone recorded), and since it's a highly visible article, I doubt that the pace of vandalism is going to wind down. Thanks. Unblock request on holdEdit

There's an unblock request at User talk:Cornell737, relating to a checkuser block which you placed some time ago on an IP range. Would you have a look at it, please? You will need to look at edits which I have revision-deleted to hide the IP address information, as the editor has said that he or she doesn't want it to be publicly visible. The editor claims to have recently moved and so is likely to have taken over an IP address previously used by someone else, but I guess a CU should probably be able to confirm or refute that claim. JamesBWatson (talk) 15:00, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

By the way, I referred to you on that editor's talk page as "he", because I am under the impression that is right, but I don't now know where I got that impression from. You don't have your sex specified in your user preferences, and I can't find any confirmation on your user page, so if it should be "she" please tell me, so that I can avoid making the same mistake again. Bloom Energy page updatesEdit

I work for Bloom Energy, a company that manufactures solid oxide fuel cells for businesses looking for distributed power generation systems. Bloom Energy prepared a draft of a substantially improved version of the page that I believe is more neutral, comprehensive, and timely.

In keeping with Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines, I was hoping to find an independent editor willing to give the draft a look-over and provide any feedback. I saw that you nominated the page for a DYK and thought you might be interested in the topic. I would be forever in your debt if you happen to have the time/interest to take a look. Hi Materialscientist!

It has been awhile since I was able to update the draft of the Ninoy Aquino station article to include notable events and sections which pertain to the station itself. Given that the station is now at full-swing construction and the updated draft here, may I request for the article (in its current draft form) to be reinstated into the main title as agreed upon before and be protected from vandalism especially from User:Very Deep Thinker which continues to engage in an edit war in all templates and articles pertaining to the station by either deleting them or renaming them despite the presence of credible and verifiable primary, secondary, and tertiary sources with the only reasoning being personal feelings against the name/political affiliation of the name. Thanks very much for blocking an impostor, but had a questionEdit

Hi Materialscientist,

Thank you very much for stepping in and blocking an editor that tried to be an impostor. I could not find a public thank link for your block like I have for other edits on wikipedia, so I am taking the opportunity to thank you in your talk page. I appreciate you blocking Huitz90. I am inclined to believe that this editor seems to be involved with Illuminus Knight who also created another false account with my signature name "Huitzilopochtli1990". Especially since Huitzilopochtli1990 had the exact same behavior of harassing another editor and trying to impersonate me as can be seen in his/her contribution history [3].

This editor even went as far as linking his/her signatures to me and my talk page.[4]. I have never seen that. Is there any suggestion to prevent anyone from doing such things? Or how to approach this situation? A bot signed for Huitz90 correctly [5] and you can see the tricky way they linked to me afterwards.

I have changed my signature back to "Ramos1990" for the moment to prevent confusion between the fakes and my real account. It looks like these two fake accounts did not make it far, but this is pretty problematic since this Illuminus Knight editor and/or another editor seem to be working in sync in trying to impersonate me.Ramos1990 (talk) 01:55, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

Moving from IP to IPEdit

Hello M. You blocked 83.216.189.226 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) back in January. The person has edited under another IP or two since then. They are currently using 91.141.1.255 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log). Some of their edits remind me of Dopenguins (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • nuke contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log) but I can't be sure. They might have stopped by the time you see this but I did want to make you aware of the situation. MarnetteD|Talk 19:50, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

Thanks. MarnetteD|Talk 22:59, 22 June 2019 (UTC)
Hello again. FYI they have moved on to this ip 178.165.130.106 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log). MarnetteD|Talk 23:59, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

Your block of 40.131.40.114Edit

Hi.

I understand exactly why you did it, I believe, but I did want to point out that Jacob's Pillow Dance is a well-known non-profit dance venue, and that their archives are a valuable resource to the dance scholarship community, so the links that were being posted by this IP were legitimate ELs that wold add to the reader's understanding of the subject matter. Not all dance video archives are open to the public (the New York Public Library's collection, for instance, can only be accessed from the Library's terminals), so having one that anyone can see is useful.

I wonder if you might re-consider the block in favor of informing the IP of how they should go about adding links without getting into trouble, and suggesting that -- if they are officially connected with the Pillow (I get the impression that they might be an intern connected to the JP archive), they make an account (not a role account) with a declaration of a COI.

Just a thought. Thanks, Beyond My Ken (talk) 19:53, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

Abuse Filter botEdit

Hey, so I've been trying to keep in mind your advice about how best to submit AIV reports based on my monitoring Special:AbuseLog. I've been considering this idea that would make life a lot easier possibly: a bot that could automatically warn users who trip certain edit filters (like Filter 12). This way, users could begin escalating warnings from there if so needed. Would that be a bad idea? –MJLTalk 21:58, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @MJL: You used "abuse filter" in a section heading. Of course I'm going to show up uninvited. IMO, that wouldn't be helpful. The filter already warned the user, with this bit of nastiness:
So what's the point of having a bot issue another warning? If it's a false positive, that's going be straight up obnoxious, and if it's a true positive, then I don't see how saying "an automated system detected vandalism, then another system detected that the first system detected vandalism" is going to stop anything.
I typically only warn filter-tripping vandals if: (a) They're stabbing the "Publish" button so many times that it's flooding the log and making it hard to read, (b) they're trolling us at WP:EF/FP, (c) The edits are really horrible (BLP/personal attacks, racism, anything else I'd have left an "only warning" for if it had saved), or (d) They've recently managed to save at least one (bad) edit. I always start at {{uw-attempt2}} or higher, because, as I said, they've already been warned at least once by the filter.
LTAs, of course, are different matter. If we've gone through the trouble of making a filter for a specific user, chances are they're determined enough to work around the filter eventually. So, report on sight, with no warnings, if they're quacking loudly enough, or just let someone more familiar with the sockmaster deal with it if not. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 22:44, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
@Suffusion of Yellow: [Thank you for the ping] The warning I suppose isn't for them per se but for Recent Change patrollers to easily see this user is already bad news. I pretty much always see this pattern play out: IP blanks a page, trips edit filter, figures well if I can't do that... and finds a different way to vandalize, then they get issued a level one/two warning by a RCP. That's the cycle I am trying to alter (my ideal would be: trip filter, talk1/2 warning, vandalize, talk3 warning, vandalize, talk4 warning, vandalize, block). If that sounds stupid to you then I'll let this idea go, but if it seems useful then maybe we should try it? –MJLTalk 23:35, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
@MJL: I see the problem, but the primary purpose of a message (even a template message) should be to communicate with the user who gets the "You have new messages" alert. (Well except right now, but you know what I mean...) Leaving a "This user is up to no good" message for the next editor who happens to drop by seems too close to using template messages as badges of shame, which they aren't, even if everyone, on some level, treats them as such.
Perhaps, instead, a script which alerts you when you're viewing the contributions or talk page of an user who has had edits recently disallowed by a filter? Or maybe just mixes the filter hits in with the contributions, chronologically? Won't do much good unless everyone uses it, of course, but it would be easy to write, and not need bot approval or community consensus. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 00:52, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
@Suffusion of Yellow: (Well except right now, but you know what I mean...) lol Yeah, a script would work if it could directly link you to which of the user's contributions tripped the filter. The holy grail would for it to work with/in Twinkle as to tell you the user's tripped a filter right as you're about to warn them (kind of like how Yet Another Helper Script tells you if something's been deleted before). I doubt that would ever happen, though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯MJLTalk 01:08, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

Miss Kobayashi's Dragon MaidEdit

I see that your semi'd the article for five years due to a block evader. The protection was for five years. Isn't that a bit too long for this sort of thing, considering the previous protection was only for a month? Should probably be shortened to six months or up to a year instead, five years seems too long considering there were only about two or three episodes of the person vandalizing. Possible socksEdit

Hi, 99hyperborea88888888, 99o2kimjongil2000, blocked Hyperborea88888888, 88hyperborea8888, BuffoloBill and IP-hoppers are probably the same person.

Serial vandalEdit

Materialscientist, I gave 82.4.154.63 a final warning back in December for changing accurate information in articles to be inaccurate; they made similarly invalid edits to Strictly Come Dancing (series 15) in March and to Strictly Come Dancing (series 16) less than 24 hours ago. I don't know whether this is just another address for similar vandalism, or if this is someone else who thinks it's a good thing to take good information and make it bad, but I'm hoping you can prevent any further vandalism on their part. I don't know if they've sufficiently demonstrated that they're not here to build an encyclopedia, but they've certainly earned some form of block by now. Thanks for anything you can do. SockpuppetEdit

Safeersmak is a possible sock. The account stands solely as a promotional account for actor Mammootty. First edit itself was for adding the term "Megastar" in his article - diff1, diff2. Added the term in Mammootty filmography while logged out. Rearranged cast in Twenty:20 (film) - diff3, diff4, diff5. Harirajmohanhrm was such an account blocked while edit-warring for rearranging cast. Then there was Mealwaysrockz007. I'm not sure which is the master. Can you please check it? 137.97.37.164 (talk) 13:50, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi there,

Could you block this school IP for vandalism, given their recent edits. I just came here since I also noticed that you have also blocked 94.200.100.86 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) not too long ago, which is on the same exact IP range. Thanks. 73.158.53.154 (talk) 05:00, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

Anand KurianEdit

Hi Material Scientist,

This is regarding the rather abrupt deletion of the page on Anand Kurian. It's several years old and had more than sixty internet references alone. Perhaps, it was too long and we undertake to edit it down if the page can be re-instated.

Thank you. Mediapupil (talk) 06:15, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

Hopefully I am at the right place (finally)Edit

Sorry I just joined Wikipedia not long ago and I have been so excited about trying to improve things that I might have posted unnecessarily here and there... I have seen you protected the page Roof and since I'm new to wikipedia here and can't edit a semi protected page, I don't know exactly what am I supposed to do. I believe the step is to request for the page to be edited. It has a wrong citation code a dead link and a link taking to a spammy site. Thank you I hope I'm doing the right thing writing this in here. Helen Rafaelo (talk) 20:35, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

Edit concernEdit

Hi Materialscientist. I have concerns with this editor's edits.[6] Although some are useful contributions many I find are poor and will need rework. I find the replacement of 'was' with 'got' rather odd, shall we say. I have suggested change that they may like to make in their editing behavior and this has basically been ignored. Perhaps someone needs to review their edits and see if they agree/disagree with me and perhaps if they agree then add weight to the discussion. Would you also be able to suggest to me the most appropriate forum to raise such concerns? Neils51 (talk) 02:34, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

Sorry, I am travelling by car this summer and having very limited internet time. Materialscientist (talk) 05:03, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

Edit on page for Margo SeltzerEdit

Hi Materialscientist,

I see you reverted an edit on Margo Seltzer's wikipedia page, due to a lack of citation. This article below should prove to be a citation to support the claim.

17 November 2013Edit

I'm getting pretty goddamn tired of receiving messages from you when I have never edited a wikipedia article, and I never fucking will. Is this Wikipedia's scam attempt to get me to finally register an account? Because I fucking won't. If you ever feel the intense obsessive compulsion to resend a message to 184.96.255.253 *YET AGAIN* then take several deep breaths and crack a bottle of absinthe. That guy hasn't been around for at least six years, and it's getting pretty creepy that you're so obsessed with an edit that was made nearly a decade ago by an entirely different individual, on a page which I have no fucking clue what it is.

Look guy, I know I'm coming off as aggressive. But this same fucking message has been received well over twenty times over the last several goddamn years, now you're finally getting your fucking response, and it's been so goddamn long the person you had a beef with doesn't even use this IP anymore. They change, you know? Don't waste your energy continuously sending messages to 184.96.255.253 nobody fucking cares and you aren't accomplishing anything by screaming into the void. I swear to god, I better not see yet another fucking message from you next time I log in here.

This has been going on for years, and I'm getting fucking tired of it my dude. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.96.255.253 (talk) 10:58, 18 July 2019 (UTC)

@184.96.255.253: Materialscientist has sent you (this IP) 1 message back in 2013, which is the only message you've ever got. This has not been going on for years; you're reading the same old message every year. So, maybe you should take several deep breaths and think before jumping into conclusions, "my dude." —Rutilant (talk) 11:19, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
@Rutilant: There is also the possibility that notifications are not working properly for this IP address, causing them to get new notifications about the same talk page message. I certainly remember seeing notifications for an old message unrelated to me when I was browsing Wikipedia on a public computer (not logged in). I think Materialscientist made a good choice in deleting this particular talk page. Retro (talk | contribs) 17:02, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
@Retro and Rutilant: That's one possible explanation. An alternative, less AGFing one is that this "eloquent" IP editor is WP:LTA/DENVER, who has been known to frequent this range, cmp. 184.96.227.15, 184.96.231.249, 184.96.229.38. Favonian (talk) 17:14, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
